Aside from some great action in week two of the NFL season, the biggest headlines so far
00:05
revolve around quarterbacks. Unfortunately, a slew of injuries at the position once again
00:10
raises the question of how to better protect the most important players in the league.
00:18
Four starting quarterbacks went down in week two and some will miss significant time.
00:24
Cincinnati's Joe Burrow suffered a toe injury in the second quarter of the Bengals' win over
00:28
Jacksonville and he will have to have surgery. The MVP candidate will miss at least three months if
00:35
not the entire regular season. Head coach Zach Taylor defended the play of his offensive line
00:40
Monday. It's unfortunate that this happened but again that's just that's part of football and
00:46
that's what's going to happen. Guys are in the pocket, guys are moving around. I don't know how
00:50
a turf toe injury fully happens, how you got to get hit or stepped on. I know that potentially he could
00:56
have been cleaned for 99% of the game and the one play is where this happens and so I get it. I
01:03
understand where people are going to come from. It's going to be very attacking of us and our style
01:06
of play. Is the offensive line to blame? A common theory suggests that linemen coming out of college
01:13
are used to a different style of football and are not fully prepared for the NFL game. Vikings second
01:20
year quarterback J.J. McCarthy was sacked six times in Minnesota's loss to Atlanta Sunday night. He will
01:26
miss between two and four weeks with a high ankle sprain suffered in just his second career game.
01:32
McCarthy had a rough time against the Falcons with three turnovers. The NFL's 2024 Offensive Rookie of
01:38
the Year, Jaden Daniels, could miss the Washington Commanders' next start with a sprained knee. Daniels was
01:44
hurt in Thursday's 27-18 loss in Green Bay. His mobility is a key factor in his success and he
01:52
won't play unless he can be himself, said head coach Dan Quinn. On the field, the change of direction,
01:57
the pivoting, the moving, all of those would be the things to go. So we'll just take it as it goes
02:03
through the week, but he'd have to see all of the steps along this week to hit those marks,
02:10
the speed, the stopping, the change of direction, all of it. New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields
02:15
suffered a concussion in their blowout loss to the Bills. He was sacked four times. San Francisco
02:21
quarterback Brock Purdy has the same toe injury as Joe Burrow, but he won't require surgery. He
02:27
missed the Niners' win over New Orleans and will likely be out again Sunday against Arizona.
02:32
So it's next man up for those five teams. Jake Browning, Carson Wentz, Marcus Mariota,
02:38
Tyrod Taylor, and Mack Jones are all going to have an opportunity to show what they can do
02:43
in week three and possibly beyond. For Straight Arrow News, I'm Chris Francis.
