00:00what's up y'all welcome back to the shop man we got this thing out of the back this is our
00:121989 ram d100 pickup truck man it's got some patina on it and a rough life patina this thing
00:18straight busted man i mean really busted a hole in this side of the block now we're getting this
00:23engine out we're going to show you how to convert this to a gen 3 hemi you know a buddy rolled up
00:34on this thing picked her up on the cheap kind of fell in love with the you know the old farm truck
00:38it's got a cool patina to it you know he wants to use it as kind of a hot rod and a tow truck
00:43you got to have a vision right you got to see something like this laying in the field and think
00:46all right what would it look like with the stance wheels a new drive train and more so he did man
00:52he had that vision he had something in mind grab this truck now if you remember last time we had
00:58it in here we did some cleanup had a lot of rust also did an escape emergency escape out the front
01:03windshield that was awesome but yeah man some metal work some material work man now under the hood
01:12these things came with a who cares because it's coming out anyway it's got a big hole in it but
01:16it does have uh some little six cylinder in here that's useless all right so better than that
01:23though it's got a lot of room yeah so we could put in more cylinders which is exactly what we're
01:28going to do exactly we'll show you how to do that with all the conversion all the modern technology
01:32because look let's be honest anything from this era is kind of weak but these new gen 3 hemis pack
01:38a punch man all right let's start pulling some of this out make some room to get that hemi stuffed in
01:43all right
01:49all right we got our who cares engine out what's kind of nice about a who cares engine is
02:09no one cares if you just cut all the hoses and the wires and the exhaust and everything to make
02:13the whole pull it out easier saws off a few things here and there but look we found a problem now the
02:18guy we got this from or a buddy got it from said it was a carburetor problem oh it's just a carburetor
02:24problem we've all heard that before but the real problem whoosh look at that yeah hmm folks that's
02:29what happens when your pcv valve gets stuck and all that crankcase pressure builds up it's got to go
02:34somewhere boom right out the side yeah that's somebody's gonna believe that here's the problem
02:41grease dirt grime not taken care of but that's okay because this thing is going to the junkyard the
02:47scrap yard and man what we have next is unbelievable what a step up yeah so we're gonna get the truck
02:52cleaned up get it prepped get the new motor out with all the mating parts to get it to fit and drop right back in so
02:59there we go you guys stick around for that we'll clean up ourselves and this dirty old truck
03:02now if we go back in time just a little bit man this is a whole different game we're in now
03:09you used to have to fabricate just about everything to do a swap right something goes in where it never
03:15was meant to yeah everything like engine mounts trans mounts right everything accessories right
03:21just getting accessories my alternators oh it's hitting the frame rail my power or it's up here on the
03:26hood you know or power steering pump ac condenser they're all over the place so how do you get
03:31something that works that's all configured where it's not a big headache for you guys yeah nowadays
03:36it's gotten so much easier because right you got a lot of players in the game yep for one holly
03:42right these guys have been crushing it really focusing on everything you need within the holly brands
03:48right to do a swap nice and easy and this right out the gate you see this this is their mid engine mount
03:55bracket so this thing is unbelievable how much time it saves you and how much headaches it really
04:01keeps off your your plate because everything's incorporated not only you have the water pump
04:06but the timing cover the alternator is tucked down here where it's normally up here and you have hood
04:10clearance issues so a lot of things are already thought about a lot of the headaches already removed
04:14this is one of those covers you get and it's bam but one application you got everything included
04:19everything from the power steering pump which pressure on that works for the old vehicle
04:23there's a couple options there and it's all incorporated so you don't have to think you
04:26don't have to go to junkyard you don't have to go to park places and try to you know harvest all
04:30these parts to get them to match up yeah well we've got this complete front accessory drive on it
04:35outfit the rest of this a little bit we did a little refresh on the motor here yep did it painted up in the
04:41street mopar colors yeah the orange man got the msd coils on it like and we've got the oil pan that we
04:48know is going to fit in this truck with a cross number which is another typical hurdle on a swap
04:54how many times have you had that set an engine in the oil pan doesn't match so you're like no
04:58but all that is figured out for us so it should be a fairly easy swap now what's the first thing you got
05:06to contend with when you're doing an engine swap the motor mount so we actually had the old v6 motor mounts in
05:12here that we had to cut off make way for the new ones yeah so the truck was set up for v6 right so we
05:18modified the subframe for a v8 now we've got from hooker right we've got our engine mounts ready to drop
05:26right into a v8 subframe so easy cheesy bolted on there which is nice and you know once we got the engine
05:34going in we got the transmission and what it's going to mount to so over here right rear subframe rear cross member
05:41for the transmission all these headaches removed from one company holly or the transmission mount
05:47makes this swap really simple really easy you just got to find you know beater 90s you know dodge pickup
05:52truck that's right so all right why don't we get this thing up on the cherry picker and start doing
05:58the whole drop in see what we got going on see how many times or how many few times we go in and out
06:04before it's happy yeah man and anytime you put one of these you know five seven six ones or six fours
06:09and something like this man what a big upgrade so let's get to it let's get the upgrade
06:14dude there's so much space in these old trucks man it's almost too easy i know nowadays you got so
06:23many things around you can just climb in here and start wrenching and working on it that's what makes
06:27it fantastic now that the engine's in there looks pretty good already an improvement this truck's
06:32already faster yeah not even moved we just got to dress it up a little bit yeah speaking of dressing up
06:38check this out man the high ram intake from holly yeah this one's got the longer runner so it's
06:44going to give it a little bit more torque which is great anything that's not boosted right to fill
06:48that in and check out what's underneath the lid here man this is all performance real nice smooth
06:55radii here on the bell mouse ready to just pull in a ton of air so this thing is going to be perfect
07:00yeah man big performance too and it just looks kind of cool you pop the hood and you're like
07:05whoa yes sir that's definitely a whoa and wow factor for sure yeah so along with that we've got
07:11a 95 millimeter throttle body from holly uh this thing is pretty sweet we wanted to go with a
07:16mechanical right instead of a drive-by wire just so you got that connection to it it's a little
07:20simpler for the owner people like to feel that tip in and lean in on the cable so that's why we're here
07:26have this and it's bigger you know i think it's you know something along 80 85 millimeter from the
07:30factory so a little bit bigger a little more airflow we like that and everything you need to get it
07:35right including fuel rails adn fittings so good stuff man all the way across the board yeah so
07:41we're going to start doing some assembly up on the bench first we got our our iac so idle air we've got
07:46our throttle position sensor we've got our rails we'll get our ejectors in here as well so and it's
07:52all o-ring fit so you get a great seal on that as well real important no doubt all right let's get
07:56this thing pre-assembled and go try her out in the truck
07:59all right guys check it out man this thing is getting all dressed up dolled up man that looks
08:24mean in there dude what an improvement from that old v6 it's crazy see this under the hood it's such
08:30a beat-up truck but remember you know patina is a thing with this build it's gonna be cool to see
08:35this all living you know under the hood yeah when you pop the patina you get to see the jewels
08:42now the owner really likes these arp fasteners so do we let's be honest if you guys had a big bin of
08:48arp bolts you would upgrade everything as well i mean they're 20 stronger than grade eight right
08:54they come in black stainless steel so you don't have to worry about things rust and then they're
08:58just what's this cool upgrade yeah no doubt now if you're doing a ton of boost you could really use
09:03that extra strength but in this case man they just look great yeah all right so we're gonna fasten
09:08these down here and let's show you how we're actually going to control this unit up here so
09:12come over to the bench look at this you got a couple options here this is the terminator x and
09:19the terminator x max and the only difference is this one manual this one can also control
09:24automatic transmission so 4060 4080 whatever you got in this case you know we only need this one
09:30because it's going with the manual but man how nice is this to have in case you're really doing
09:35some serious upgrades especially performance racing guys got love it no doubt so we got all the
09:39harnesses everything that we need to get this thing so imagine again back in the day right when
09:44you're doing some kind of swap you're having to you know oh yeah harnesses and getting controllers to
09:48work this is just a plug and play it's all pre-labeled so plug and play and you're rolling man in a
09:54couple hours yeah now you got your screen so you can interact and what's really awesome about these
09:58units here is they've got a lot of extra features like boost control and progressive nitrous
10:04unbelievable reading logging reading everything about it you got boost control you can do boost
10:08gear boost rpm boost versus whatever you want nitrous it works for wet or dry systems progressive
10:14controllers systems without progressive controllers it has everything it needs to really up the
10:19performance
10:19man all of a sudden that thing goes from a kind of a trashy looking old dodge truck to
10:26something that's kind of cool now the patina works with something like this but imagine popping
10:31that hood you got that 5.7 hemi man you're seeing that intake exhaust when that gets done
10:36backed up by something like this a t56 magnum this thing is awesome all of a sudden dude that thing goes
10:44to a wicked sleeper truck man no doubt and a lot of people still use the older t56 to talk about
10:50these six-speed boxes right so you got double overdrives nice now they kind of ran out i think in 2007-8 so
10:57then i went to the tr6060 it's the heavier duty platform it's got wider gear faces for more loads
11:03totally capable and then when you put that with a magnum which makes it super powerful for aftermarket
11:10easily configurable for shifters and all that stuff this is the box man and i'm really proud of our
11:16owner for going with the three pedals and then you come to the front of it and look what other goodies
11:20we got from lakewood all right how about this cast of aluminum bell housing aluminum i mean come on
11:25man that doesn't weigh anything so yeah it's great from a weight standpoint but a lot of the steel sfi
11:31capable bell housings have larger flanges sometimes it can be a little tight to get exhaust to come
11:37through and tunnels so perfect setup let's get this uh bell housing bolted in and i think we're going
11:43on to the truck start doing under the stuff let's go mock it up guys all right
11:47you want less regens with better fuel efficiency from your diesel well it all starts with combustion
12:08and that means higher c-tain yeah most diesels at the pump have a c-tain rating way too low
12:14that leads to incomplete burns more soot and more regions but with the hot shot secret diesel extreme
12:19and edt you can fix all of that yeah step one diesel extreme it's a deep cleaning fuel system and
12:27injector cleaner with up to a seven point c-tain boost use that every 6 000 miles to clear out all

13:19all right you guys now we've got the old tank out you saw how nasty that thing was how about this one
13:37so it's holly sniper's efi fuel tank and obviously it's powder coated looks a million times better it's
13:42gonna protect you as well capacity wise 22 gallons the old tank this is 26 gallons you get a little
13:48more fuel in there and with this tank it's metal not plastic like the original tank was here's what
13:53i like 3.25 inch hole right here now what does that do that allows you know things like holly or a sniper
13:59retrofit fuel module drop in there with ease you don't have to cut or do anything like that man it's
14:04ready to go so whether you got a carburetor or a fuel injection you're gonna be set up nice with
14:09this fuel tank now what we gotta do is well get some straps in some protection in and get this in that
14:14old truck all right so we got the tank in that's an improvement and i gotta tell you you can't look
14:20at this truck just from the outside without the wheels and tires on it yet and maybe see it but
14:25it's coming around you get that nice little hit me under the hood you pop fast got that high rim
14:29intake pretty impressive got some stuff underneath it's coming around he wants to keep the patina
14:34on the outside but we do want to protect the bed rust all over your gear and your stuff like yeah
14:42we're going to do a little bit of you know functional in the bed because right he's hauling
14:46he's towing he's moving stuff around but it's going to look cool and hip and old school and vintage on
14:51the outside right and for that we lean on herculiner now herculiner we've used on all kinds of stuff
14:56now obviously we're using on truck bed now but you don't have to use on a truck bed you can use this
15:00stuff anywhere you need a little traction and a lot of protection so from trailer floors that's
15:06always good i actually have it on a wooden deck first step because it gets slick but you could you
15:11know apply that any place you need traction and protection i mean it's texturized it's got a
15:15rubberized formula to it so man it's perfect for a lot of those situations uh the prep is pretty simple
15:21right we did some scuffing then we went in and basically some tack cleaning so the surface is clean
15:26it's got a little bit of porousness to it from the sandpaper and then roll it now obviously we just
15:31want to show you what it looks like on the tailgate here we'll do the bed a little bit later but it's
15:35really easy to apply it comes with everything you need it sets in one to four hours here's that deep
15:41black color in 10 to 12 and the kit covers a six foot truck bed includes roller frame and two foam
15:48rollers looks great too man a lot of texture a lot of protection there dude looks like you really got
15:54the hang of this so um i'm gonna go pick up those brakes my boy eric's got everything ready so uh
15:59brakes huh whoa we gotta clean all this yeah i know you got it man it looks like you got it rocking
16:04out somebody's got to get parts man eric's waiting you're doing that again dude you leave me i can't

18:58yes sir all right batteries i am hopeful we get far enough on this project to fire up that hemi so
19:04fingers crossed now when it comes to batteries there's so many different sizes shapes and construction
19:09so make sure you check with your o'rally parts professional to make sure you get the right one because
19:13you've got everything from your classic lead acid in different sizes but if you need some of that
19:18vibration performance uh deep cycle you name it agms they're all going to have a different sort of
19:25function depending on what your application is anyway we're going to pick we're going to go with
19:29the bad boy here the superstar platinum agm that's going to cover a lot of great territory
19:34so let's get this thing in the cart
19:37right all right mr kevin so i got your brake best select rotors and the brake pads and take a look
19:49at these they come with the rubberized shim for quiet braking nice all right we're gonna have a loud
19:55motor but i'll take the quiet brakes uh i got the agm battery here you want to scan that in you got
20:01everything else everything's been scanned okay except for the battery we'll take care of that
20:05all right and uh put it on willie's account yes sir okay willie not not kevin just willie's account

21:08all right kind of like the patina and liking the brakes so a few upgrades to fuel this for sure
21:15man now for dang sure yeah it's coming around man yeah no doubt we got a lot done already some of it
21:21in the mock-up stage but it's in a position where we can start wiring and doing plumbing and do other
21:26things so man if we get some hustling going on we might be able to get this thing fired up in the
21:30credits out of time for now but look hope you guys had some fun maybe learned a thing or two
