00:00I've been trying to catch up with you for a long time, man.
00:02Day one of year two.
00:05I know it's only day one, but just talk to me.
00:07How's the body feel?
00:08How do you feel about your first day?
00:09Man, it's good to be back.
00:11Back like I never left.
00:12It was a smooth start, you know, a little rusty as a unit, as a team.
00:17But I think we got a great foundation to build on right now.
00:19Did you kind of expect that it would start off a little rusty,
00:22especially because you guys got up with Russ in the summertime
00:26and you guys have been kind of working out together?
00:28Did you kind of expect, I guess, I don't want to say like a faster start,
00:32but like what were your expectations going into day one, basically?
00:35Yeah, so obviously you always want to start as fast as possible.
00:38Every OC's goal, every player's goal is to come out firing on all cylinders.
00:43But, you know, the reality of it is, you know,
00:45sometimes there's some growing pains with, you know, having a new quarterback.
00:48You only have so many practices in the spring and stuff.
00:50So there's going to be a little bit of that, we know.
00:52But like I said, we got a great foundation to build on.
00:55What's Russ's aura and leadership like?
00:57You hear guys talking about the leadership all the time.
00:59Can you give us like a story about when he really showed like,
01:03hey, this is really Russell Wilson right here?
01:05Yeah, I mean, first time I ever met him, we threw at Georgia Tech.
01:09But like as soon as we found out he was going to be on the team.
01:12And right away, as soon as we're in the throwing session,
01:15he kind of stops the whole thing and really sits down
01:18and wants to get your idea of how you run a cover two seam
01:21and then tell his idea of what he thinks it should look like right away
01:25so that day one we're on the same page.
01:27And that's with every single route, every concept,
01:30there's a whole lot of dialogue just so that we're on the same page,
01:33quarterback and tight end.
01:34You scored on the seam last year against Washington.
01:38So they kind of told you what your role is going to be this year.
01:43Like are you expecting the big year,
01:45or should we expect the big year for Theo Johnson?
01:47Yeah, I think we're definitely going to build on last year for sure.
01:49I think I was getting my feet wet a little bit,
01:51and towards the end of the season I feel like I was really hitting my groove.
01:54And I think we're going to build on that.
01:55There's a whole lot of things we're going to do in the option game.
01:57I mean, we've seen today in the red zone there's going to be a lot of cool things
02:01for the tight end.
02:01So I'm super excited for what my role is going to look like this year.
02:05What's Jameis and Jackson Dart been like?
02:07Those are both my guys.
02:09Me and Jackson have been spending a lot of time together.
02:12Jameis is another tremendous mentor.
02:14He came down, spent some time with us in Atlanta,
02:16training with me, Slay, and Wendell.
02:18We got a good little throwing session in.
02:20So both of those guys are super capable quarterbacks, very talented.
02:24And it's been a pleasure working with both of them, for sure.
02:26Jackson Dart and Tommy DeVito said they were watching Love Island during the spring.
02:30Were you a part of that?
02:31I actually was a part of that.
02:33Oh, my gosh.
02:33Yeah, I actually was.
02:34It's kind of crazy.
02:36My name got left out of it, thank God.
02:38But, yeah, we had a cool little group going on,
02:41just kind of hanging out and doing our thing.
02:43When you found out who the winners were, were you excited or what?
02:47I wasn't that deep into it.
02:49I wouldn't say I was that deep into it where I had a connection emotionally either way.
02:54You went to TEU, tight end university, this year.
02:58Kind of talk about what that was like being around some greats in your position
03:02and what's some things you picked up that you're going to implement for your game this year.
03:06Yeah, that was cool for me, you know, being a tight end coming out.
03:09So that's something you kind of look at year in and year out,
03:12and I've always wanted to, you know, be a part of that.
03:14So it was cool to be surrounded by some guys that I feel like I have similar skill sets to
03:18and just kind of hear their two cents on things.
03:21And I think the big thing I took away is just, you know,
03:24never losing sight of the physicality of the tight end game.
03:26You know, sometimes we try and get too pretty with our leases or some things.
03:30At the end of the day, like, you're a tough big guy,
03:32and that's hard for a lot of people to cover.
03:34Man, they tried to move me to tight end.
03:35When I was in college, I am not a tough big guy like you guys.
03:39But, man, good luck to you going into year two.
03:41Can't wait to see what you put on tape this year, man.
03:44You got a lot of people excited.
03:45Appreciate it.
03:45Yeah, thank you.
