00:00Oh yeah, the hype around this Jackson dart kid, oh it's for real so far.
00:04He keeps putting some great stuff on tape that slowly justify
00:07why the Giants trade it back into the first round to grab him.
00:11So here's three throws, excuse me, here's three darts delivered
00:15from the preseason game against the Jets that show that Jackson is ready for that action.
00:26Alright, let's break down this first play.
00:29Jackson Dart's got a lot of eyes on him.
00:32He is impressing a lot of people and this was a 19-yard completion
00:38to Montreal, Washington, who's here in the slot.
00:43But before we even break this play down, they're in empty formation.
00:48The second preseason game.
00:50If you're in empty formation, that goes to show you that your offensive coordinator,
00:55your quarterback coach is very, very comfortable with you and what you've been doing
01:04and how you're picking things up because it's hard for a young quarterback,
01:08a rookie quarterback, to protect himself in empty formation
01:12because sometimes you don't know where that blitz is coming from.
01:16You don't know who to throw hot off of.
01:18You don't even have the proper protections installed right now.
01:23So the fact that they're in empty formation with Jackson Dart, again,
01:27they're throwing stuff at him, seeing what sticks, what he picks up on,
01:32and that they're very comfortable with him.
01:34The top route concept up here, the concept up here at the top is going to be an all-go look.
01:41All-go.
01:43Deep over, seam, and you kind of got to fly and die depending on what offense
01:50or what offense you're in, what terminology you're using.
01:54Down low right here, the bottom route concept.
01:57You've got a choice route by Gunnar Oshansky,
02:02and then you've got the hinge route, the stop route here,
02:06plus four split from Lil Jordan Humphrey.
02:09But we're looking at where we're watching the routes up top.
02:12Jackson Dart here, quarterback, obviously.
02:14We're watching this completion to Montreal, Washington.
02:17Let's look at it, then we'll break it down even more.
02:21Gets over top of the mic, linebacker, beautiful throw.
02:25Beautiful throw to protect him.
02:27Again, this is a drive starter.
02:29This is a great completion in the no-huddle situation
02:33to get the ball to a guy that's been eating for you all throughout training camp.
02:39You can see it here.
02:40All right, when we're talking about this route right here,
02:42the Montreal, Washington is running.
02:45A lot of the times, this detached backer, this nickel wheel right here,
02:50he'll be in a little bit more.
02:52And as receivers, we're taught to go under the nickel wheel
02:56of that detached backer and go over top of this mic linebacker here.
03:02They look like they're in some sort of two-high shell coverage,
03:05looking like some sort of quarters coverage.
03:08That's cover four.
03:09Everyone's man-to-man in their section.
03:11In their section, they split the field up in the four sections.
03:16Everyone's man-to-man.
03:17You got him man vertical, man vertical, man vertical.
03:21These guys are playing underneath.
03:22But what Jackson Dart does a great job of doing is using his eyes to hold this backside safety
03:29so he doesn't rob and pick the play.
03:32And even worse, he doesn't rob and knock Montreal, Washington out.
03:37So you can see Jackson Dart look over at the safety with his eyes.
03:42Bam.
03:42Puts the ball on him to where only Montreal, Washington can catch this football.
03:49Let's look and break it down here.
03:50The only rushing four.
03:51He knows he's protected.
03:53Look at his eyes.
03:54Who's his eyes looking at?
03:56His eyes are trying to hold this safety as much as possible
03:59because if he takes his eyes over here to the strong side, to the play side,
04:05this safety is going to jump that
04:06because number two isn't doing any sort of vertical route to hold him.
04:10He's got that choice route here to which absolutely puts him in a blender.
04:15But we're breaking this route down here.
04:17So you see Montreal, Washington use the speed.
04:20You don't want to go underneath this linebacker, this Mike backer early
04:25because now you're getting washed down and it turns into some sort of shallow cross.
04:30You want to get up and over this backer and get into this 18 to 22-yard range
04:36so that ball can be thrown on a rope and put on you in this situation.
04:41That's exactly what Jackson Dart does.
04:43He protects him with his eyes and he protects him with a low throw right on the body.
04:51Stick it right on the body.
04:52As a receiver, we know we're going to take this hit.
04:56But we'd rather take this hit with this ball being put in a position to where we can catch it
05:02and protect ourselves and two, catch it and kind of try and turn our back to the contact.
05:08Good throw.
05:10Good catch.
05:12First and 10 New York football giants.
05:14All right.
05:15Let's move on to another one.
05:17This right here is nothing spectacular.
05:20It's not going to be some spectacular deep ball or anything, but what this kid Jackson Dart has learned
05:27in what, what, four to six months of being a professional QB is he learns how to pay his taxes.
05:38Takes what the defense gives them.
05:40And that's exactly what he does with this six-yard gain to Dante Miller, Turbo Miller.
05:46Again, empty formation, got a tight end here, and Dolchick, you got Turbo Miller up here,
05:52Montrell Washington again, Gunner in the slot, another receiver, and a little Jordan Humphrey here.
05:58Let's watch the play, and then we'll break it down even more.
06:03Watching play side here, strong side.
06:06Another cover four type look.
06:10Dumps it to the back.
06:12Boom.
06:13Six yards, first down, chains are moving.
06:15Let's back this up some.
06:17Let's look.
06:18The kid, this kid is progressing.
06:20And I like, this is my first Jackson Dart breakdown where I get to go into depth.
06:27But every time, and I know it's preseason, every time this kid is showing up and showing he can handle
06:33what the Giants are throwing at him.
06:36So let's take a look at this top, this top concept up here to the strong side, to the play side.
06:42We got ourselves a little, what we call, we call this a Seahawk.
06:46You got the stick route here.
06:48Usually there's a hitch right here, but there's a now route, a now route where Dante Miller just stops, turns and stops.
06:55It's a now route here.
06:56And then you've got the seam route by number two.
06:59So here's one, the one receiver, two, three.
07:02Three runs a stick, one runs a seam.
07:05You can bend it versus too high or mofo, middle of the field, open.
07:09If the middle of the field was closed, he'd keep it up, the numbers.
07:13And then you've got this, it's kind of like your flat control.
07:15This is your check down.
07:16Now, let's watch Jackson Dart on this play.
07:20Wants to go to the stick route.
07:22It's not there.
07:24And he just takes, this is basically him throwing to the flat right here.
07:27It's a check down to the back in the flat route.
07:32And you never go broke taking a profit in the NFL.
07:36So he's trying to, what this stick route does, or the stick with this seam,
07:41they're trying to high-low this nickel wheel right here.
07:46And they're also trying to influence and pull this Mike Backer out
07:51for the seam route that's right behind it.
07:53So if they were to get depth, if they were the back pedal,
07:57then you just run the, he's running this little quick out,
08:00and he's going to hook it up, boom, put it right there on his chest.
08:04But as you can see here, the nickel wheel, Michael Carter,
08:09does a great job of jumping it.
08:11They completed this pass earlier on the drive.
08:14So he jumped it to try and rob it.
08:17Now, Jackson Dart sees it, holds on to the football,
08:21kind of looks at what, where can he,
08:23where can he throw this ball on this seam route?
08:26Can he, one, throw an accurate ball?
08:28Two, can he protect his receiver?
08:31Doesn't think he can do that.
08:32And now he sees this corner falling off
08:35because he's trying to fall off and play over top of this seam route as well.
08:39Leaves the running back right there, wide open on this now route.
08:43Remember how I explained that now route.
08:45One step, and you just wait on the football.
08:48So he's holding, boom.
08:51Nickel wheel, jumps the stick route.
08:54You can see his eyes on Dolchik.
08:57Again, middle of the field open.
08:58He takes the middle with the seam.
09:00You see him kind of bend it in a little bit.
09:03Jackson Dart doesn't like it.
09:05Never go broke taking a profit, y'all.
09:07Get the ball to Dante Turbo Miller.
09:10First down, move the chains.
09:13All right, last play here.
09:14I didn't go to the tight for that prior play,
09:18the little dump down, that throw to Turbo Miller.
09:21There's no need to kind of go to the tight on that one.
09:25Last play here.
09:27This is the touchdown to Dolchik, tight end.
09:30And we'll go from the tight on this one
09:32because I want you to watch how Jackson Dart
09:36and his eyes, the play action,
09:42how intentional he is with this play action
09:45influences these linebackers.
09:50And it's a situation to where you got them.
09:52So let's watch Dolchik go up the seam here
09:55off this play action, the fake toss, whatever it is.
10:00It's a run action to get the linebackers active.
10:04Let's watch it here.
10:05Wide open, throw, and catch.
10:15Wide open, throw, and catch.
10:18Again, watch the fake toss here.
10:21Watch what this fake toss does.
10:23And when you're talking about play action in the NFL
10:26or any sort of run action,
10:28you really have to be intentional with your play action,
10:31with your run action, how you fake the ball,
10:34how you show the football.
10:35Peyton Manning was great at it
10:37because you have to influence these guys.
10:39If you don't, then these guys are just going to drop back.
10:43And instead of trying to get them to move up,
10:45take a step up, get them to flow to the football
10:48like they're trying to stop the run
10:50so you can slip the tight end right behind them,
10:53you have to be intentional with your run fake,
10:57with your run action.
10:58That's exactly what he does here.
10:59Watch it.
11:02Now look.
11:04After the fake, his eyes automatically go to this Mike Backer.
11:08Wants to see if the Mike Backer gains some sort of depth,
11:11if this nickel wheel is going to fall off
11:15and play this seam route,
11:16play Dolchik who's trying to slip through here.
11:19His eyes immediately go to the biggest threat
11:23to who could rob this wide open seam route.
11:27You see him reset.
11:29Got him.
11:31See his eyes.
11:32Knows he has them.
11:33Knows he has his window.
11:35Got him.
11:36You see the nickel wheel flow to the football right here.
11:40Great run fake.
11:42The run fake just got Dolchik open.
11:45Now you see his Jackson Dart's eyes
11:48and the quick release of the football.
11:51Bam.
11:54Puts it right on him.
11:55If he's late, 27 has a chance to get in there
11:58and possibly make a play.
12:00If he's too late, he holds on to the football
12:03and wants to wait until Dolchik gets up here,
12:06then this backside safety could,
12:09if he's athletic enough,
12:11could come into phase and make a play on the football.
12:13But no, he has a quick release on the football.
12:18Puts velocity or velo, as we like to call it,
12:21on the football and puts it right on Dolchik.
12:25You see the safety sitting here creeping.
12:27He's up there creeping.
12:29He's going to move with the run action.
12:32He's going to make some sort of move with the run action.
12:34Nope.
12:36Boom.
12:37Puts it on him.
12:37So, touchdown.
12:40You got to like where Jackson Dart is
12:42and his progression right now.
12:45And from week one in the preseason
12:47against the Buffalo Bills,
12:50where he came in and lit it up,
12:52he got even better the next week,
12:55this preseason game two against the Jets,
12:58to where they threw even more at him
13:01to see what's been sticking,
13:03what he can handle.
13:05And I'd say right now,
13:07this young quarterback has about an A-minus right now
13:10in terms of his grade
13:11on how he's picking up Brian Dable's offense.
13:16This kid is right where he needs to be
13:19in his progression.
13:20And he continues to impress his coaches,
13:23his teammates, and the entire fan base.
13:25In a perfect world,
13:26he doesn't play anything
13:28but clean up minutes this season.
13:30But if he has to step in,
13:32he's slowly showing that he'll be ready
13:35for some QB1 action.
13:37And I'll see you soon.
13:38And I'll see you soon.
13:40You
