00:00welcome back everybody to another edition of new york got game the season is almost here you know
00:21we do every year on the show we have to talk about the best bets surrounding the new york mix
00:26because some of you out there you know like to not just watch the games but you like to put a little
00:30something down on the games you want to feel good about it now i'm gonna add a warning and a
00:35disclosure here to everybody we are going to talk about this stuff if your bets don't hit you cannot
00:41come up run up on me in the street and blame me or anybody else that's going to be on the show it is
00:46not our fault we are just here to have a discussion about the best bets so we just want to let you know
00:51so joining me because i'm not going to do this by myself joining me is my good co-host brian fonseca
00:57who also does some work for the action network and also with him is another action network basketball
01:02guru he's a knicks fan he's been with us for a knicks watch party during the playoffs joe de
01:07lever joins us now guys what's going on how y'all doing happy to be here man uh it's always fun
01:13linking up with both of you so hopefully we have better luck this season last year i know i the game
01:18that i did for the watch party was a rough one for us but but we still have fun we still have fun
01:24hey joe we didn't we didn't hold it against you brian and i did well if we did brian and i wouldn't
01:28have you back like brian would just be like no we can't bring joe back but i don't think brian
01:31would would roll like that i don't think so right i think as far as how i'm doing by the way i'm freezing
01:37it is so uh it is so cold now you're at the so cold territory of october because it's 2025 we have heat
01:46no first of all it's not on right now because then it gets too hot it's one of those situations
01:52and two my hands are the first thing my hands are freezing but it's it's it's gonna be fine because
01:58hopefully we get red hot with some of these bets there we go okay there we go that's a nice little
02:03transition there i i like that also i'm you know i understand brian i'm not fond of this time of
02:08years it's getting colder in the winter i'm not fond of that so here's what i like hoodie season but
02:12i it just it was kind of abrupt this year hoodie season came very quickly and then you know what's
02:18coming after that none of it is good we we know none of it is good we we know that so here's what
02:22here's what we're going to do guys we're going to have a discussion about uh several things in terms
02:26of betting here we're going to break this up into three different segments the first one we're going
02:29to do is the award season because brian as much as anybody i know loves to talk about futures and
02:34awards he loves that he award season in october he absolutely loves that then we're going to look at
02:39some season-long player props that might be interesting there are not a lot out there but
02:44we are going to look at that as well and then we're going to look at some team futures that could
02:48be good uh before we get up out of here so let's start with award season because awards always
02:56interesting in teams and awards are generally narrative based as we know now but we're going
03:00to try to look at this with some statistical measure as we try to evaluate this each of us are
03:05going to share uh picks that we like here joe i'm going to start with you in terms of the awards um
03:12some interesting options out here what's an award bet that you like for the knicks here this season
03:18so i've been looking at mike brown for coach of the year i think that there's plenty of narrative here
03:23um i think that when we look at the odds even kind of bouncing around everywhere but he's towards the
03:29top of the board i've seen about 18 to 1 out there and i think that for me a lot of it has to do
03:35with the fact the east just isn't that good and when we look at the new york knicks it's not that
03:39they're not a good team like we expect them to be very good and i think that there is a legitimate
03:43path for them to be the one seed in the east they don't have a traditional like mvp player i think
03:50brunson is you know kind of in that tier maybe could win if everything breaks right but at the end of the
03:55day he's not you know like victor or you know or shea or yokich or somebody like that where you go
04:01oh this guy's gonna be a perennial mvp like top tier guy every year so you look at this team
04:08they're really deep but the biggest thing that i think a lot of us as fans were saying last year
04:13we were watching this new york knicks teams were like can you just play like anybody else like just
04:19they don't need to be out there for 45 minutes a game so i think that if they're able to have some
04:23success have a little bit of nuance the offense i think that and they and they finish the one seed
04:28i think that mike brown coach of the year is a better bet than like knicks to be the one seed
04:33in the east so especially at that long of a number so i think mike brown's got a shot at coach of the
04:38year hey if mike brown's coach of the year that means a lot of things weren't right at least during
04:42the regular season it's going to really be for him about the postseason but fans will be happy at
04:46that i do like that bet and i do think you know even though i think there's a lot of people think
04:50the knicks are definitely a top two team joe they could finish one i don't think that's crazy
04:54i think a lot of this depends on how good of a start they get out to so we'll see mike brown
04:59for coach of the year could be really good brian do you like that and what do you have is in terms
05:03of an award bet that you're looking at for the first part every award is a narrative award and i
05:10think i think mike brown will have narrative on his side if the knicks are good off to a strong start
05:16if they're let's say
05:18you know just 16 and like five out the gate and it's like oh wait a minute they got it together
05:26you know the offense looks different tom thibodeau couldn't really do this you know to this degree
05:32like those kinds of things are going to start happening so the other thing is it's it's difficult
05:37this year and it'll inevitably happen but it's difficult this year to sort of project who's
05:43going to win this award because dagnell has one already yep kenny atkinson uh like is he going
05:52to get one this year you know given how good they were last year if their win total is not exceeding
06:00that like how could you really make the case uh given that they're going to start out with
06:04darius garland out with max streus out um though they're still going to be really good in the regular
06:10season so yeah i think there's definitely a pathway to doing that as long as the knicks uh
06:15you know are one of those teams that have like top seed i think they need to be the one seed probably
06:21for mike brown to get this um because then you're going to look at a team in the western conference or
06:25maybe there's a team who just punches above their weight where they win like 10 15 games more than
06:31expected like mike brown did with the sacramento kings right right so that's kind of what you're
06:38looking at as far as um the award that i targeted because i looked at every category
06:42i was like yo are we sure are we sure jalen brunson has no shot at mvp
06:49okay okay like are we sure i don't think jalen brunson is going to win mvp but
06:55but this is plus 8 000 at the time we're talking about this so 80 to 1 okay that is for starters 80
07:03to 1 is great secondly if you're looking at every award being a narrative award
07:09the narrative will be on the side of victor wambanyama like the the voters are going to have
07:18a boner for victor wambanyama this season they cannot wait to give him this award if he can play
07:2365 games and the spurs are like a top four seed but the spurs might be more realistically unless he is
07:29amazing right now which he could be and even if he is like are they going to be better than a
07:34play-in team in that western conference it's going to be difficult to see um and again the games
07:38luca donchich at plus 380 like i don't know if luca donchich is gonna as good as he will be this year
07:47i think it's gonna be great but are the lakers better than a play-in team like what seed do the
07:51lakers have to get to because the western conference is loaded you have the wolves the clippers the nuggets
07:57the thunder you have all these different teams and then looking at okay yannis is up there too
08:02don't know what to expect from this milwaukee team again yannis is going to be great games played also
08:06a question mark so you have all these guys ahead of him in odds kevin durant even i don't know if
08:11he's gonna play 65 games either like you have all these guys that you could sort of poke enough
08:15holes in and for jaylen brunson the case is very simple if the knicks are a one seed because they
08:22probably have to be the one seed they could be the two but if they're the one seed because remember
08:26when they were a two seed before they were way behind the boston celtics a couple years ago so
08:31that was like surprising this year there's expectation and if they're a one seed 58 wins 57 wins 60 wins
08:39whatever he's going to be looked at when dirk nowinski won mvp on that overwhelming regular season
08:45maps team the one that lost to the warriors that wasn't his best statistical season it wasn't his best
08:51statistical season at all he had better years but best player on elite regular season team and that's
08:59sort of what you're looking at here if the knicks are like second or third in wins overall or maybe
09:04even second just behind the thunder like yeah you're going to look at jaylen brunson and the narrative is
09:08going to be on his side uh the voters are going to be just entranced with all the national games
09:15that just make up a word all the nationally televised games that the knicks have this year
09:19like yeah i i think i think at 8 000 i mean it's it's a number that's going to get shorter if the
09:26knicks are legitimately really good yeah no i i i can see that too and i think you poked holes in a lot
09:32of the guys ahead of him in terms of odds that you're like okay i can see this rising up you might
09:37want to jump on that now and look it's a fun one to follow for the year right it's a fun one that you
09:41you can look at here all right i'm going to give you guys mine and it's this is also a long shot
09:46this is i'm going to be very clear this is a long shot but what i would like to preface this by saying
09:51is and i know you guys will agree with me on this so much of the talk around the knicks coming into
09:57the season has been about how they're going to look under mike brown and everything has been about
10:01the offense i think sometimes people forget mike brown is a good defensive coach this is how he made
10:07his bones as a defensive coach and so i'm going to look in terms of awards i'm going to look at
10:13og and noby for defensive player of the year now the odds for him draft kings has a plus 15 000 all
10:20right i understand those are very long shots odds they're even longer than what brian just mentioned
10:26about jalen brunson i also would like to bring up something brian said i understand that everybody to
10:33take brian's term is going to have a boner to give victor women yana this award and big vic is the
10:39best defensive player right now he's a monster on defense and it should be the favorite to win this
10:43award however we know games played as a factor if you think the knicks can be better defensively and
10:49i think there's a world in which where they're playing mr robinson to start at the five where they
10:54have og and noby who's going to actually be able to roam a bit freer than when you saw cat at the five
10:58that it can bode well for him listen he's the knicks most versatile perimeter defender there is
11:04absolutely positively no doubt about that i think he can succeed i think not enough is being made about
11:09mike brown's defense last season in terms of the opponent field goal percentage with him as the
11:15primary defender it was 41.6 that was top five among wings guarding 500 plus shots so that tells you
11:21just how elite he is in deflections per game last year 2.7 you want to compare that to something
11:27that's right about where mikhail bridges was in his 2022 where he came up runner up in defensive
11:34player of the year right so this is a guy who could absolutely be in the conversation we know about his
11:39impact in terms of on off splits the next defensive rating was 108.2 with og on the court it was 116.9
11:47with him off the court so the impact is there now look i think the knicks have to win games as we've
11:53heard from brian and joe with the other couple of awards um i think they also have to make a
11:59significant mark in defense like can i'm not saying they got to even be top three but can they be like
12:05top seven or eight and look even better than they did last year and if they have combined with the top
12:12two to three offense which many people think they can have that will be really good now i think you
12:18generally when you're in depot you want to get into the top three but i just also wonder how much
12:23more love will be given for perimeter players now look brian i'm i know you're going to rock with me
12:29on this you have been saying for a long time too much love is shown to the big men in terms of
12:35defensive player of the year award i agree i think it's time to show some love to some perimeter players
12:40i think og can have an impact on his defense the only pause for concern is wins will the knicks get
12:45into that top five to three range in terms of defense and then how much does mitchell robson
12:50play because he's also going to have a big impact but if you want something just some fun to root for
12:55a long shot flyer i i say go with og and ob because i will say this i do think og and ob is going to have
13:02enough impact defensively that he should be a first team all defensive player he is the knicks most
13:07versatile player and i think usually when you're in that first team all defense conversation you've got
13:12a shot at deep boy so why not throw a couple bucks down on og and ob that that's my one it's
13:18a flyer i'm trying to help brian out brian won't see the perimeter players it gets he is he is 25 to
13:24one to be first team all defense too so if you wanted to take dpoi is almost like the latter
13:29that's not crazy either where if you said hey i'm gonna bet first team all defense and like you said
13:36if the narrative's there why not like why couldn't he win and plus like i think the new york bump is a
13:41thing i think i think it matters you know you are getting a lot more press coverage he's you know
13:45this team with mitchell robinson i think that improves the overall defensive rating of the team
13:50so even if you know you credit a lot of it to mitchell robinson i do think you know as long as the
13:55defense is solid that's really the first criteria it's like you've got to be a good defense if you're
14:00going to beat out anybody out so i think that that matters too yeah no all right i'm i'm glad you
14:05i'm glad you like you here all right so that that's it for wards joe you had i'm sorry i'm
14:12blank oh you had mike brand for coach of the year yeah ryan had jalen brunson for mvp i'm going with
14:17og for defensive player of the year all right let's let's go to uh the second segment called prop city
14:24we're gonna have a little fun with props again there are not a lot out there so this is very slim
14:28pickings that we had to deal with and come on books y'all gotta be better with this we gotta
14:31get some of the props out out here brian what what's your player prop for the season
14:38uh that you like or are looking at what's one that you have i wish there were more available
14:43because i think it'd probably be more interesting to tell you the things that i'm looking for that
14:47i don't see yet but i gave car anthony towns or a rebounds leader a look just because like i don't
14:55know if mitchell robinson's gonna play every game and even if he does play a lot he's probably not
14:59going to play that often in terms of the minutes like he he won't be playing 30 32 34 minutes a
15:05game he probably won't be playing that much in any individual game very often at all um so even as a
15:12starter i do think like i'd be surprised to see him exceed like 25 minutes a night 26 minutes a night
15:18i think we would all agree with that and in terms of rebounds leaders like you're looking at guys like
15:22the monster bonus a lot of people will probably bet wendy um because he's 9 foot 12 and literally
15:28doesn't have to jump to get a bunch of rebounds but then we'll call anthony towns like he's still
15:33going to get a lot of rebounds um even playing beside mitchell robinson because they will be
15:38staggered they're if if they start together all season long which look we entered a year talking
15:43about starting lineups and then by the end of the season it might look different like it's it's rare
15:46that teams uh even really good ones have like the exact same starting lineup from the beginning to
15:51the end and injuries are going to dictate part of that so it's not one that i'm like hey absolutely
15:56take this um but it's in that four digit range i'm forgetting if it was 1100 or so when i saw it
16:02it may have been even better odds than that but that was one that i gave a look to where i'm like
16:06you know maybe maybe this is a number that uh i'll be more so monitoring uh because i do want to see
16:14how the double big lineup because remember you don't have to take any of these like now you could
16:18actually wait there's a risk in doing that in terms of value but for cat and rebounds in particular
16:24you know waiting to see what the mitch stagger situation looks like i think could be worth it
16:30so that's one that i didn't fall in love with but it's one that i'll be monitoring for at least the
16:34first couple weeks of the season see how it goes all right that's that's a good one to monitor there
16:38joe i know you and i have the same thing that we picked here so we're i'm gonna let you to take it
16:44away and then i'll i'll chime in but you have a interesting prop that you like around jalen brunson
16:48yeah so i like eight plus assists per game at plus 330 at draft kings uh i'll probably play this
16:55down to about like plus 250 or so part of why i like this is we've seen this upward trajectory for
17:01brunson in terms of his assists he's gone from 6.2 to 6.7 to 7.3 with the new york knicks and i think
17:08a lot of it is when we look at jalen brunson and what he brings to the table this is he obviously can
17:15beat anybody off the dribble he he's a bucket ethical hoops he can score on anybody but this
17:21new york team has a lot of offensive talent and i think that with coach tibbs gone with the switch
17:27to mike brown i do think we're going to see a little bit more of a offensive flow with an effort
17:31to really kind of get everybody else going um where it's going to be a little bit more of an evenly
17:36distributed team offensive effort here and i think that brunson is going to need to play a little bit
17:42more of a traditional point guard role at certain times i think they might use them as a little bit
17:46more of a spot of shooter but that kind of lends us into this assist prop where this is a team that
17:51has a lot of guys that can not only shoot uh like you know shoot excellently from beyond the arc but
17:56you do have a couple lob threats in both carl anthony towns and mitchell robinson a lot of really
18:01athletic guys uh with og and an obi mikel bridges uh obviously you know and then you have brunson at the top
18:07so i think there's plenty of opportunity for brunson to assist his teammates and be able to facilitate
18:13this offense and i think that the uptick from 7.3 to 8 it seems like a pretty significant jump but at
18:20this number at plus 330 i think we're really getting a lot of value on a change that maybe we wouldn't
18:26have seen otherwise through tibbs but i think we will see through mike brown so i like eight plus assists
18:32at plus 330. yeah so i like this too i think i think this is a fantastic bet it's a fun bet
18:37joe you talked about the increase that we've seen in him went up to 7.3 last year that was good his
18:43assist percentage was 35.1 so that was the highest of his career look that's higher than donovan mitchell
18:49that's higher than sga uh last year that he had now look we understand the usage rate was 31.4 is around
18:5632 so there's going to be a lot of usage i do think you're going to see brunson's usage go down a bit
19:02but i don't think that means that because he might not have the ball in his hands as much early in
19:06games doesn't mean that the assists are going to go down i think because of the read and react
19:10offense from mike brown i think that's going to help him a lot now when sat when mike brown got to
19:16sacramento which i think people may find interesting here they had a i think it was somewhere between 10
19:22and 12 percent increase in team assist rate so we're also expecting that with nicks right the team
19:28assist rate is going to go up i think it bodes well for brunson as well too um there's some data
19:34that says his projected assist conversion could go until for the team going anywhere from 43.7 to 50
19:40percent right that equals about you know for per player like brunson 1.1 assists per game that's
19:47what we're asking for that's gonna go from 7.3 to 8 right that's 0.7 can that happen yeah i think it
19:52i think if you believe this nicks offense could be better all around i think that take betting
19:58brunson to increases assists which as joe mentioned has happened every single year um even though i
20:04think his he can be more efficient efficient with his usage i don't think i think some people think
20:10there's going to be a decline in numbers particularly scoring um maybe there's a little bit a point less
20:15per game but i think he can be more efficient in terms of his you know field goal percentage
20:20expect the field goal percentage um in terms of his assist rate which is something i'm gonna look
20:25at and just getting assist and listen the knicks were good in games where brunson had 10 plus assists
20:30they went 13 and 3 last year when he had 10 plus assists so look moving the ball is good less iso ball
20:37is good i i think there's people who have concerns about the iso ball with brunson and it may be the
20:44ball being taken out of his hands a bit i'm not one of those of those people um at all and then the
20:49other one other stat i'll just throw people which is why i think you might want to bank on this
20:53over the last five seasons in the nba 11 guards have averaged eight plus assists per game and all
21:00of them were primary ball handlers on top 10 offenses so if you think this knicks offense again this is a
21:06bet on the knicks offense you think the offense is going to be really good and you think jalen brunson
21:10is adaptable as i personally think that he is then i think this is a good bet to go with him for eight
21:15to average eight plus assists for the season and i think it also bode well for the knicks if he's
21:20averaging eight plus assists for the season brian do you like that you like uh your point guards to dish
21:26yes you like this bet i mean if you're looking at pace yeah he should be able to get there my only
21:33concern is like is this going to be more of a diverse slash egalitarian offense where they're like
21:41not opportunities to the level we think that jalen brunson is going to get these assists
21:47um and if he's playing less then that could hurt too that being said like i think there are pathways
21:54to do this especially now that their backup point guard retired out of nowhere that was crazy
22:00like i think that with um with jalen brunson last year he got 35 minutes a game 35.4 which he's
22:09averaged the last two seasons i think we all expect that to drop a little bit maybe 33 32 that's the
22:15number that we toss out their decks some weeks back when we went through rotations but his assist went
22:20from 6.7 to 7.3 so he's on pace to get to about eight like right there 7.9 uh if he continues to
22:29progressing at the same rate the problem is the the minutes but look if if they are faster because even
22:35with tibbs and even though the offense was really good last year they played at a slower pace
22:39and teams every year they do this every year we're gonna play faster and they don't every single year
22:47but mike brown has done this before like mike brown specifically has done this before with sacramento
22:54where they had like a wildly efficient offense a couple years ago it was like the best offense ever
22:58statistically it wasn't actually the best offense ever if you like look at it you know they didn't have
23:02like magic and cream and shit but it was the best offense in terms of numbers and i think with with
23:09the pace that at least you see in the preseason at times like yeah they can play a little bit faster
23:14and there will be opportunities so i think at the very least you'll get in the neighborhood and i think
23:18it's a good thing if jalen brunson does get to that number while not having such a high usage because
23:24i think the usage you don't want it to be too high because you don't want it to be run down by the time
23:28it gets april yeah no it's it's a bet i know joe likes it i like it i'm very intrigued to see
23:33how this plays out okay let's move on to the futures market uh here and this is where we're
23:38gonna look at team futures what could happen with the knicks there's a lot of interesting plays here
23:43joe what do you have when you look at the team futures markets a lot of ways you can go you can
23:47go over under uh you can go next to win the easy whatever next to finish with the one seed
23:52whatever you think for the team futures what do you like it's always tough for me with uh with the
23:56knicks i always feel like i'm being a little bit of a homer but i really do think that this team
24:00is incredible i think they're an excellent team off the rip and i think that they're a team that
24:06should be able to at least win the conference um they're plus 255 to win the conference and i i
24:13really like that spot i think they could win the title too if they get into that position um but i do
24:18think that when we look at this from a like a little bit more of a realistic perspective i think
24:23that they could maybe have a matchup difficulty with against some of these teams in the in the
24:28nba finals if they were to make it there but i do think that the path for them realistically in the
24:32eastern conference this year is one that they can kind of take advantage of i think that they can get
24:37into that one seed and i think they can continue to advance through that um cleveland's got a number
24:42of different issues in terms of their injuries they're a little bit thin right now so i do like the look
24:48of new york being able to secure the one seed and then also being able to win the conference at plus
24:53255 um if you want to kind of combine the two things the knicks are also plus 255 to be the
25:00number one seed in the eastern conference i don't think it's a crazy situation i think that this team
25:05is going to have a very legitimate offense under mike brown i think the defense is also going to
25:10kind of connect and i think it's going to be a little bit maybe better um these guys are going to
25:14be rested i think they're going to be able to succeed because they are deep team we are seeing
25:19some of these veterans some of these other guys want to come to new york and spend their time here
25:24now it's not like we're reaching out to free agents trying to fill in the end of the roster
25:28our position was hey like you know we need to make some decisions here and all of you want to come play
25:35in new york so i think it's a great spot for new york i like them to be the one seed i like them to win
25:40the conference and i think that they'd obviously be live in an nba finals but i think that this is kind
25:46of the realistic path especially in a relatively weak east compared to other years for them to
25:52advance through the eastern conference yeah i also have this pick is my futures pick that i'm uh that
25:58i'm eyeing i'll sprinkle something else if you want to combine this if you think the knicks are going to
26:02win the one seed or win the east um i i would say i like their i like their line to go over their 53
26:08and a half wins i don't think they go over it by that much i think this is a team that could win
26:13between 55 to 58 games i'm just a little unsure of how seriously they're going to take the regular
26:18season or how seriously they will need to take the regular season um depending on how close some of
26:23the other other teams are but i think if you like that i loved you combining them to get the one seed
26:28and also to win the east i think that's a good good parlay you can have right there but i like that bet
26:34at 255 look in some ways you heard brian talk about this earlier right joe sometimes with these futures
26:40you want to wait you know you could wait a little bit you don't do it now maybe the knicks get off to
26:44a slow start right like maybe they start off two and two and the odds drop a little bit and you know
26:51you might be able to get this at plus 350 or something like that that might be something you
26:56want to do i i think the knicks are a good bet to be in the mix whether they even the two seed if you
27:00just want to take them to win the east do you think they can get through the playoffs do you think
27:04they can get through some tough matchups do you think they're better than cleveland if you believe in
27:07that i say take this bet i think continuity for this team matters i know they changed the coach
27:12i think their depth matters but obviously also health matters if they can stay healthy
27:17i think this i think this is a pretty good bet so i like that one too that's that's my future one
27:22and if you like the over under for wins i'd i'd be inclined to go over the 53 and a half i'd be
27:27inclined to go there brian what's what's your future spirit i also went over on the win total
27:32um i also even took the 55 plus wins not so sure about 60 but i took the 55 plus it was a little
27:40extra juice it was like plus 130 135 i like that um when i didn't go there i don't know if the value
27:45is going to be as good now uh because now the the total pretty much universally is at 53 and a half i
27:50think there may be a 52 and a half still out there um look there's a bunch of people that joe and i work
27:55with it like the under and to which i'm like i i i do think i think i think team is slightly better
28:03and i think the east is slightly worse so what what is there to be you know complicated about this
28:10um the other thing that i'm looking at from a from a more of a micro perspective because i looked at
28:17obviously title east whatever i don't feel the need to touch those things right now like if you do
28:22think the knicks are going to win the title like maybe now is the time that you can strike um but
28:28for the east since it's at 250 i i wanted to like entertain other things and obviously i i do think
28:33it'll come down to maybe them in cleveland and maybe orlando uh we'll see what happens with detroit
28:38and atlanta some of these other teams in the east but i think the east is uh going to be interesting
28:42beyond the top two teams i looked at the nba cup
28:45the knicks are in group c in their group is milwaukee chicago miami and charlotte
28:54and i was like to advance it could be new york and whoever it'll probably be
29:01milwaukee or miami although joe knows this i'm delusionally optimistic about charlotte
29:08winning maybe 30 games this year we'll see what happens but you're gonna say miami maybe 30 plus yeah
29:13i thought i thought that was coming too joe i i would have predicted that as well money line
29:17drying i think the heat will be the heat will be okay this year um brandon miller could be really
29:24good but i bet on the knicks at plus 800 to to win the nba cup because i i do think in the eastern
29:32conference because this goes conference by conference group by group and listen as people
29:37up here who love international sports joe and i have been covering international basketball together
29:42for a while and dex i go to you for a lot of soccer things yes which is why i'm wearing my
29:47real betis hat but um i think with the nba cup like there's a clear pathway for the knicks to get
29:53really far in this tournament as a matter of fact and a plus 800 like to me that there's something to
29:58be said for that i feel like they're a team also that's going to take that uh seriously relative to
30:04a lot of other teams um and i think nba teams should take it seriously because it's winning something i
30:08know it didn't necessarily work out for the lakers or the bucks although you know that's because they
30:12ran into better teams but i do think that's something that mike brown could use and catapult
30:18you know the early portion of the season it won't be super easy just because you know it's early on
30:24maybe there's some kinks they have to work out maybe they don't start off as strong as you think
30:27but they have a very winnable group and i think that just puts you in the mix so plus 800 to win
30:32the nba cup why not i love it i love some nba cup talk why not some people yeah why not some
30:38people hate it now i don't know if this is a year the nicks want to win the nba cup i'm just going
30:42to say this because they have championship aspirations and if they win the nba cup it's
30:46only going to increase like yo y'all better win the host of larry o'brien trophy in june you know
30:51that's good the energy is going to be out there but listen i'm fine with winning something again i'm
30:57not throwing a parade for winning nba cup but i'm i'm fine with winning something and nicks fans
31:01you ain't seen them win nothing in a long time so you know you you might you might want to take
31:06the nba cup okay before we get out of here joe i want to ask you uh since you are a guest here on
31:11the show do you have like one best bet that you love for the nicks going forward this season is
31:20there always there one you might be waiting on keeping your eye on do you have one thing that you
31:25look i i am dying to get a mitch like a mitchell robinson rebounds line like at some point
31:31anywhere ah i i like i know that we've been like dead aligned on this entire show yes i am dying for
31:40this line like i'm waiting for like a 10 plus or like 11 plus or something when the dude is out there
31:46he is like the best rebounder in the nba like i don't care who we're comparing him to he's an
31:52absolute vacuum so if i can get any type of season long prop on mitchell robinson to record
32:00x number of rebounds it's sign me up i want it i'll certify it give me it so if anybody wants to
32:07book that action to hit me up like we'll we'll get it done but i like i really like i really like
32:13mitchell robinson to get the rebounds um i think that it's a great opportunity for him we've seen him
32:19just absolutely crush on the glass it's just it's like his favorite thing to do so uh when you can
32:24get that i think it's a great opportunity and i'll be looking for that throughout the season too if i
32:29if i don't get the you know a full season long one i'm gonna be looking at him early and often in the
32:34uh in the player prop market uh to try to take advantage of what i think is a perceivable edge
32:39so i want to support joe on this because this was something that i was looking for as well
32:45when we talked about player props i looked at this and i was like okay i pulled up some data
32:50this is per 36 numbers and i understand it was a small sample size for mitchell robinson in games
32:56last year but he averaged 13.9 rebounds for 36 minutes that that was fifth in the nba if he had
33:03logged the high amount of minutes which he didn't right but his rebounding percentage 21.8 total rebound
33:09rate that's higher than anthony davis that is higher than nikola yokich the man is a rebounding
33:15monster we know this and the thing is will he get the time will he get the get the minutes i do will
33:24say this where i agree with joe is he's somebody you have to look at really early in the season
33:30because i think his line is going to be undervalued you have to jump on that look at what the line is
33:35and i would hit that over every time hit that over every time don't expect him to play a lot of back
33:40to backs mike brown has already said they're going to be careful with his minutes but i think when he's
33:44out there and he's looking spry right now and he's got the whole new diet and everything yeah man i love
33:49some mitchell robinson over numbers until the market corrects itself which it will at some point in
33:54the season but if you could jump on it early yeah i'm i'm with that joe we got to put petition they
34:00got to get a mitchell robinson season rebounding line up out there like they need that to happen
34:06what happened like yesterday the best is every time brian knows i'll request i'll request lines so
34:11sometimes you can get access to a trader and you'll ask he's showing me the emails he does it so i do
34:17this uh i have a burner email gotta have one but yes yeah one thousand percent but i've asked for
34:27something it's not even listed it's not even a listed option they'll put the market up he'll be
34:32like the favorite like how is he not listed like what are we doing so wow we've done this for we've
34:39done this for fiba tournaments like we did this for like euro basket you know like let me ask you guys
34:46a question just to let the let the viewers know if you request the line do they always respond or
34:52sometimes they just like ghost you and just like yeah sometimes you'll get ghosted or the market like
34:59they would have had to post it by then and then they won't and then the like whatever like the
35:04market will close and then you'll get a response it's like sorry we can't offer it now
35:08well that well thanks thanks and the best is the best is when they do that and then it's like
35:13all in betting so you're just you're beat
35:16got it nah nah it's good but we will see how the nicks do the season is gonna be fun for people to
35:24watch one more thing to shout out dex what you got go one more thing to shout out this is what i want
35:28people to watch out for because jordan clarkson's getting a lot of love now for six man of the year
35:33he's jumped all the way up to like plus 1200 plus 1400 in some areas i just want to see how the
35:39beginning of the season goes because i'm staring at josh hart and deuce mcbride just in case just in
35:49case i think the jordan clarkson signing is a good one and i've been a proponent of this and i think
35:53it's going to work but with malcolm brogdon out now and jordan clarkson maybe having to have a bigger role
36:01and you know he he is in his 30s what if he's a little more like unsteady than we think i think
36:09there's an opportunity there for a josh hart or deuce mcbride i like the josh hart play more
36:14on yeah probably josh will fill up the numbers the only problem is the only problem is they tend to
36:20give it to just it's like six man of the year is for scores and defensive player of the year is for
36:27centers like that's just it is what it is or bigs i should say i will say though i do think what was
36:33it a couple years ago when russ decided like started coming off the bench i think there was like a
36:37legitimate push for him to get it and then i think what do you get i think he got traded at that point
36:42or whatever it was so then it kind of took him out of the running anyway but i do think that there
36:47is something to be said about josh hart a starter for this team um like playing monster minutes like 40
36:53plus minutes sometimes the entire game in the playoffs if he takes a step back and says you
36:59know and it's like cool with coming off the bench which like i think the optics of it you know
37:04outwardly he will always be that way um consummate professional but i do think that that's something
37:10people in the media like the voters see and they respect if he does perform really well where it's like
37:16he's this absolute engine on like off the bench just a full-on motor he's got a lot of popularity
37:22very popular player i would say so i do think that he's maybe one of the players that could like
37:28slightly buck that trend of you just are a scorer on a top team so he's the i do everything guy on a
37:36top team maybe that could mean josh hart and because because he came off the bench last i mean he's coming
37:43off the bench this year and started last year he averaged 37.6 minutes per game he averaged about this
37:49with rounding it was basically 14 10 and 6 which is ridiculous to think about it was actually 13 and
37:53a half nine and a half and about six but if he's playing 28 30 minutes he's going to be playing with
37:59bench guys more often than starters with some staggering so you would think the production doesn't
38:05drop off that significantly you would think so if there's like a if he gets to like i don't know
38:1212 8 and 4 he's going to be in the mix and that those are realistic numbers i think yeah and i think
38:18i think the other thing for him is like his shooting i mean outside of his hesitancy to
38:23shoot three pointers has been pretty efficient like let's say he does what you just said what
38:27do you say 12 8 and 4 brian yeah let's say he does that on like he's shooting 48 from the field
38:32and he was 52.5 last year he was 52 from the field last year yeah that's what i'm saying he was
38:40remember remember the beginning year we were doing our live shows he was at like this ridiculous
38:43feels like somewhere around 70 right i think like the first six weeks or something
38:47if he's anywhere efficient even if he did like i said i said 48 let's say he's in around 50
38:52whatever yeah he's doing that whatever i think that's good i also think if the rebounding rate
38:57is up there against bench units mostly um i think i had it here in front of me he his rebounding
39:03percentage was 13.2 right that was the highest among guards wings in the league so if he has that kind
39:10of impact we all know how good of a rebound he is despite being 6'4 if he does that i think it is
39:16putting up those kind of numbers yeah i'm kind of with joe on this i think he could buck that trend
39:19of what you were talking about brian where it's like we just give it to the scores the bucket
39:23getters yeah because like the time like if deuce were to be a real candidate for this he probably
39:27has to average like 15 with a few assists like 40 and and that's what jordan clarkson's supposed to
39:32do you know so it probably won't be but you know just in case because if jordan clarkson's bad
39:38then deuce is gonna have to play a bigger role and then we'll see but i think josh hart is really the
39:42guy the thing that makes me nervous though is obviously he's gonna be playing injured all year
39:45he came out and said it's like yo my finger's gonna be messed up all season long so it might help
39:50watch josh hart shoot the highest he does enough other things and he has the reputation for that
39:58and has built the reputation for that where it's like look if anyone if any type of guard is gonna
40:03win this while not being a bucket getter like he can do enough to at least get in the mix i agree
40:07i like i like that one all right guys this this was good we talked about some of the nicks best
40:12bets for this upcoming season we'll see how it all plays out like i said but give this disclaimer again
