00:15welcome back to another edition of new york guy games your boy dexter henry alongside my guy brian
00:20fonseca sir we are here the offseason continues to roll along summer league underway uh for some
00:27of y'all out there some of your favorite time you get to evaluate prospects but we're not here to
00:31talk about summer league we did that on the last episode where we previewed summer league thank
00:35you to everybody for watching comments and a lot of interaction from you guys on that we are here to
00:40try to answer a simple question what else do the knicks need to do this offseason no the knicks are
00:47not done brian they are not done they still have more work to do this offseason there's still a
00:52couple of roster spots they could fill which is interesting it's we were getting very uh deep
00:59into the roster construction they've done most of their business and we're going to kind of start
01:03there because you and i we've been talking about the business the knicks did and so much of the
01:10attention has gone well before free agency started so much of the attention was all right can they
01:16bring everybody back so let's just get this out the way the knicks have brought most of the team
01:22back 95 percent of the team is back yeah pretty much a party's gone a party's gone mitchell robinson's
01:30gone are you saying whatever i mean that no i'm saying that's kind of it yeah yeah jordan clarkson
01:38still could come back see about jordan we'll get to that a little later we'll see about some of the
01:41other um ancillary parts if you will no disrespect but but what i wanted to start is that they brought
01:49back the core the core of the bench except mitchell robinson except for mitchell robinson
01:55on really team friendly deals in fact deals that are so friendly brian and i were texting and well
02:02and now that the terms and everything are out because it's damn near suspiciously why's it gotta be
02:07suspicious why's it gotta be suspicious though look man pablo torrey pablo torrey's gonna be
02:13sniffing around you can't be giving nobody any ideas man you can't be doing that but the deals are
02:19great deals um clearly they love it here let's get into it i mean landry sham it four for 24
02:27what's the information on the guarantees so four for 24 first year's guaranteed at 5.5 million
02:35which is biannual exception so basically you got the biannual exception here's the thing and this
02:40is what we're gonna get into and talk about all this guys years three and four are partial
02:46guarantees for landry sham it okay hold that hold that okay let's talk about muhammad diowar who i said
02:57had to be a priority for the knicks and bring him back yeah and the knicks bring him back now
03:01the
03:01terms around who i said might be your six men at points this year could be could be yeah all
03:07right
03:07i don't know from a minute standpoint but from a production standpoint i could see him coming off
03:12the bench giving you 10 12 or so uh regularly if things play out well so they gave him four
03:20for 11.3 million dollars right now the shock here's the thing first year of the deal so people know
03:272.6
03:28million dollars the shocking thing for me was only the first two years are guaranteed now what i'm
03:36actually gonna hold hold that for a second hold that for a second let's then get to your your
03:41country man jose alvarado okay who i wanted to play in world cup qualifiers but only you three not only
03:49me trust three for 14.4 right first two years are guaranteed he'll be making 4.4 million
03:58in year one the third year is a partial guarantee i'm glad we went through all that so none of
04:05these
04:05are player options to be clear right the knicks have team control their partial guarantees
04:09but i'm almost i'm not almost i'm looking at the players and the agents like i get it that you
04:15love
04:15it here but also why would you agree to this because you love it here i feel like they could
04:20have done better like all these agents but here's the thing in terms of not and i know i know
04:26i know
04:27knicks fans are gonna be like yeah but they got great like you know it's new york and they want
04:32a
04:32title and all these different things i'm just saying all of these guys got beneath what they're worth
04:38so now i'm looking at their agents like what happened yeah but let me say this and i think
04:44knicks fans have been waiting a long time for this to be said about their team for once people
04:51were willing to take less to stay here that means we use this word all the time probably too much
04:56sometimes the culture is actually good and it's surprising because it it's it's not like so when jalen
05:04brunson does it jalen brunson's making a ton of money anyway i don't know if he's gonna take i
05:09don't know if he's gonna take i don't know if he's gonna take the i don't know if he's gonna
05:12do
05:12this again when his deal is but that's what i'm saying you're right about what you're saying but when
05:16the role players do it what does that tell you the role players aren't stupid i'm gonna i always go
05:23to this it's like any other job people will leave jobs because of poor management and poor culture
05:29i've seen it people you've seen it i've done it will stay and sometimes work for a little bit less
05:35if they're happier if they're empowered if they like the system in which they work and to be clear
05:40neither dex or i are advocating for people to take less money but also we're also not people who are
05:47like yeah just take the highest like go to the highest bidder no because that doesn't mean the
05:51situation might not be good even in our careers we we have not always done that yeah necessarily
05:55now there's there's respect in getting paid a certain amount yeah and what comes with that
06:02but it's not like you're gonna take the highest bidder no matter what like i'm sure like for example
06:09if jose alvarado's best offer let's just say his best offer like if he was getting four more four
06:16more million dollars a year but it was in like washington or something like that right then then okay i
06:22understand but i do think in an open market like i i'm fascinated as to the con like not even
06:29just
06:30the deals themselves but also what you're laying out in terms of non-guarantees and partial at the
06:36back end of the contract right but the awara essentially got paid like a late first round pick
06:40right but that stuff matters because of i think how they've taken care of other guys landry shaman
06:45through his shoulder injuries not having guaranteed deals and they took care of him i think that
06:49while adding partial guarantees at the end of his deal yeah but here's the thing if you want to stay
06:55in a situation with a team that stood by you and let you rehab through stuff them giving you more
07:00money it's like you're like well maybe if it comes to another situation i'll trust him again i'm not
07:04saying you should always trust me yeah i'm not saying that all the time but i'm just saying i'm saying
07:08the it shows you how good the culture is and the situations are very specific now why does all this
07:13matter all this matters in terms of what the knicks are doing because they are continuing
07:17to allow themselves to have flexibility right you're almost fully running back a championship
07:22team yes because of guys willing to have well two years for mohammedia war which that's the one for
07:29me that was a little bit more shocking yeah the fact that he has two non-guaranteed years at the
07:34end
07:34of his deal the partial guarantees for shaman and alvarado i'm more surprised by that you're more
07:39surprised by that yes because mo diawar got paid like a late first round pick so comparatively
07:43right let's look at the 2025 draft ugo gonzalez who's been talking about a lot this summer
07:48he got in his rookie year just south of 2.8 million dollars then after that this coming season he'll
07:55get
07:562.9 and then the two team options they're going to accept both of those for three and then for
08:01north
08:01of five and a half million dollars so mo diawar i don't think the increase in that fourth year is
08:06going
08:07to be that steep no it doesn't seem but he's basically like a late second or late first early second
08:12round pick contractually like to me it's like okay that that kind of makes sense i i would have
08:17wanted more like i remember an instance years ago where daniel house was being offered and when he
08:23was a productive player uh was being offered like a three-year deal and he took a one-year deal
08:28instead
08:28like a prove-it deal and then got a bigger deal after that yeah like this was with uh the
08:32houston
08:33rockets when he was with the houston rockets in like the late 2010s like 2019 or so um like i
08:38thought
08:38that he would play it that way because he got the one year but he took the rookie scale contract
08:43if
08:43you want to use that phrasing anyway i'm more surprised at the veterans because while i'm they
08:49value fit clearly because jose is home also be landry sham it's home uh he could have been he could
08:55have i won't reveal where i saw landry sham it a week ago but you know this on my way
09:01to lunch
09:01meeting with somebody i saw landry sham it just walking his dog before his deal came out yeah before his
09:06deal
09:06was done and people like people went up to him like hey you know patting him on the shoulder and
09:11everything like yeah these dudes are home you know what i'm saying i think but that stuff matters
09:16though but i i just i i personally if i were them i would have wanted more guaranteed money that's
09:23it
09:23especially considering like the years and terms on his face like if you told me landry sham it
09:29uh his four for 24 was fully guaranteed i'd be like okay that makes sense and we both know he
09:34could
09:35have gotten more annually from somebody else he probably could have gotten three for 24 which
09:40would be eight million dollars annually except except except but the fit wouldn't be there
09:46right and he's like y'all ain't the knicks and i know that's crazy for some people to hear right
09:50now but that's where they are and that's a good place to be that people want to be here even
09:56if they
09:57even if it's slightly below their market value want to be there and also giving up giving up not just
10:02money but also to some extent financial security because these partial guarantees like you become
10:08a contract after basically that first year right at that point like ledger sham it could easily be
10:13moved but it gives the flexibility yeah but that's the thing it's like if you want from a from a
10:18player
10:18standpoint like from a player standpoint if i'm looking at this from the player standpoint then
10:22yeah i don't love that but if you now but from a nick standpoint from a nick standpoint standpoint look
10:27if you're somebody fan standpoint if you're somebody who just right if you're just a fan if you're
10:31just root for the laundry and you don't really care what the players make because they make more
10:35than you know you and us and what i have you then fine but i'm just talking about players make
10:40more
10:40than you yes i should ask you that question oh please don't come to me on that don't come to
10:47me on
10:47that well you know i technically directed nicholize out here out here kicking more than us no i hear
10:54your point yeah the the point like i'm like you're almost you're making a point from the standpoint of
11:00like i was looking from the team's fan right and what this allows the team from the fan standpoint
11:04and i'm almost looking at it from the lens of the players association no i get and the players
11:10association might have some they might look at them like yo we don't like this right they would
11:14use stronger language than me to be i am always pro labor to be very clear on both of us
11:20are yes but
11:21pro working class all the if we just take this in terms of team building or what it allows the
11:26nicks to do not even down the road not even down the road we're gonna get to down the road
11:30we get
11:30to down the road when we get there but just this off season that's why i want to transition now
11:33what can they do this off season because we started at the top of the question the nicks are not
11:37done
11:37with this off season they still have some roster spots they can fill yeah they can still add uh maybe
11:42another guard or a wing or likely a third center because and we're going to start here with the guard
11:48because some of the conversation is going to come about jordan clarkson will he be back now
11:55i would think jordan clarkson should be back i think jordan clarkson should absolutely be commended
12:00for i said it during the season for how he played when he was out the rotation how he shifted
12:06his game
12:06jordan clarkson wasn't even shooting threes anymore he was getting offensive rebounds he was playing
12:11better defense than i've probably ever seen in his career he really was a strong leader for this team
12:17now there's some other people out on this market that's going to be brought up for nicks fans
12:22talking about jordan clarkson now what can you do with jordan clarkson or whoever's you bring in
12:25whoever whoever comes in whether it's a third center whether it's jordan clarkson whether it's another
12:30guard or somebody this is going to be on a veterans minimum okay the nicks this is this is all
12:36about
12:36what they have to spend they have about six million ish dollars that they can still spend so it's going
12:41to be two veterans no reason to spend all of that for a free agent right now no no needs
12:47no need to do that so it's going to nicks for the next of anyway it's going to be two
12:51guys on
12:51veteran minimums would jordan clarkson want to come back on a veteran minimum it doesn't seem like
12:55there's been a robust market for jordan clarkson i think he would value coming back for the nicks
12:59our stephan bondi has talked about this says he knows there's a lot of interest between the nicks
13:04and jordan clarkson but another name has come out there because this person had a buyout with the
13:10sacramento kings that is demar de rosen and i've seen a lot of chatter people love nicks fans on
13:18social they love some names no nicks should get demar de rosen i'm going to throw another name out
13:23here too this have i haven't seen has as much traction but it's going to happen especially
13:27if there's an open roster spot this person also played for the kings last year and that is your
13:32boy russell westbrook oh i thought you're going to say zach lavine i was not going to go there
13:36uh he picked up his option predictably so however he could get bought out he's still a
13:42buyout candidate it's gonna be expensive yeah well but let me ask you this should the nicks bring back
13:48jordan clarkson or should they go get a demar de rosen should they go get a russell westbrook
13:55uh up in here uh your face scrunched up worse for this team does not need a name you're not
14:01chasing
14:02anything right now you're trying to defend your title but this team does not need a name
14:07um you and i will probably have similar views on this so i'll just keep it brief and just looking
14:12at the roster like i i don't see the need for a guard i'm already not finding minutes for tyler
14:18cole with this team right you're bringing back i agree i'm already not finding minutes for him
14:23who had some moments last year in fact that we just talked about shamit i assume he's going to play
14:30but mind you you already have to play deuce shamit and alvarado for sure so and i'm also going
14:37to add diwara and diwara yeah and whoever like insert backup center here it will start off being
14:42on drummond we can talk about whether or not that's going to be the case in february and april and
14:46may
14:47and potentially june again right um but that's sort of what we're looking at we don't know anything
14:53about tyler nickel it doesn't seem like jack hayo is going to be a factor and pacom dadi a
15:01dot dot dot question mark we'll see what he does in summer league right and so in looking at the
15:06way
15:07the team is set up i don't think you need a guard so you don't want jordan clarkson back but
15:12i was
15:12going to say but jordan clarkson if you're going to bring somebody in yeah you might as well bring
15:17him back if he's open doing so he just probably like if he's if he wants consistent playing time i
15:22don't
15:22know if it's going to be in new york that's the question here's what i'll say if you because
15:28what you're talking about with what you just said we are basically talking right now about who's going
15:33to be your 10th man well 11th well 11th excuse me in the area you just mentioned because we are
15:38assuming that diwar is going to get an uptick in playing time which i think will happen yeah so
15:41the 11th man diwar because to be clear because you have on the bench deuce if we go even in
15:46order of
15:47minutes if we do like the two case deuce alvarado deuce alvarado diwar
15:52in some order and drumming and then from there it's like you're who's the 11th guy like who
15:57when when one of the other guards is injured but but so the point i was going to make is
16:03to that
16:04point as you laid that out and you know the starters are the starters you need somebody who's already
16:09been comfortable in that role now last year clarkson was essentially the 10th man in that role
16:16sometimes the 11th man and when he was out the rotation right especially when shaman came back
16:20and was healthy clarkson's comfortable so if he's a guy that is comfortable with that and wants to
16:26run it back and knows hey you're not gonna play every night but if a deuce gets hurt alvarado gets
16:30hurt you'll be in i'm fine with that if that's where he feels like he is in his career then
16:35i think
16:36that's great and i think it's good if you have somebody that comes in that understands and knows
16:40that role right i do think his voice matters as a veteran presence around the team you heard some
16:46talk about when the knicks were down two to one the atlanta series that he was one of the voices
16:50in locker room that spoke up that stuff matters i know people think sometimes it doesn't and you
16:55know who can play no sometimes a guy who can come in and play and then lead by example and
17:00the fact
17:00that he changed his game and was a voice so that was not just leading by example when he did
17:05get his
17:05spot grip to come back in the rotation he showed like i don't have to be the same golden clarkson
17:10i'm
17:10going to do what it takes to win so in that regard and because jordan clarkson i still think can
17:15give you a
17:15bucket can still give you valuable minutes yeah i do think it'll be good to bring him back as the
17:2011th man i know it's another guard i know some people are going to say what about colec this
17:24you know just you may be taking away time from colec maybe it is but colec could compete for that
17:2711th
17:28spot if he wants to competition is good it's okay to compete sometimes or you use them as a trade
17:33ship to try to get a backup center you could which is still a possible and we'll get to that
17:37too
17:37look again not presented as shade but like the way your roster is like you do you want to play
17:43alvarado colec and deuce at the same time no off the bench no with sham it no absolutely sham it
17:48at
17:48the four like no no no no no no no but here's the other point to what you're saying and
17:54i know
17:54you don't have to we don't have to get deep into this the reason you the stuff you just mentioned
17:58about even potentially thinking about bringing back jordan clarkson is why do you think demar
18:06de rosen the mid-range assassin the 35 is going to be is going to want to play as an
18:1111th man
18:12no i don't see it this is why this is why the de rosen thing makes no sense to me
18:16not to mention
18:16play i think yeah i agree not to mention play doesn't fit with the next need right and then
18:22i don't want to say it's a culture problem because demar de rosen has a very good reputation in terms
18:29of
18:30amongst the players in terms of what he's a fine player in terms of what he's done even for like
18:34um mental health advocacy for athletes for nba players like these are important things off the
18:41court on the court though it just kind of is what it is he would make more sense in other
18:47areas
18:48not the knicks i don't think especially for somebody who between 10 feet and deep mid-range jumpers like
18:5523 into 22 23 feet almost 60 of his shots came from there last season and that's generally like what
19:03it is with him like that that's not a shot died you want coming off the bench anyway frankly
19:07like he would be taking whose minutes modi oara's so that doesn't make a lot of sense to me nope
19:12you
19:13know um or sham it's like you have other guys that fit like demar de rosen is going to be
19:17better off
19:18in some other team in the eastern conference perhaps or even in the western conference maybe he
19:23comes off the bench and is a six man of the year contender somewhere i don't know but here in
19:28new
19:28york for the way this team is built and what they're looking for out of role players i think
19:34you hit the nail on the head with the 11th guy has to basically be i think a veteran who's
19:39been
19:39around who understands some days i'm going to play some days i'm not we expected malcolm brogdon to
19:44some extent be like that uh last year um so that's not going to be the case and if it's
19:49not
19:50if it's not um jordan clarkson i do think you have to look at some size because of the way
19:55the roster
19:55is constructed right now with already deuce jose and landry sham it'd be in your one two three not
20:01in that order necessarily coming off the bench i agree i agree 100 and russell westbrook and i am
20:06in the fans of russell westbrook to his career because i loved how he's actually played the game
20:12no no no just i'm not going to get too deep on it no because i also think is russell
20:18westbrook who
20:19all accounts people you talk to in sacramento guys love him another guy with a great reputation
20:25guys love him love how he plays how he competes but i just don't think the knicks need that in
20:30locker room especially somebody to is you i think a great point you mentioned is taking away minutes
20:34from a diawara it doesn't doesn't matter russell westbrook shot diet like de rosen also does not
20:40fit what the knicks need off the bench they need more spacing which is what sham it and diawara
20:45showed us last year shooting 36 from downtown provides you so these are not the things they need
20:50now you mentioned they need more size and that brings us to the center situation now the nick
20:56signed andre drummond talked about this in the last episode my thoughts on it you don't need him
21:01to necessarily replace mitch that's a big question how you place you can't replace mitch he ain't doing
21:05that what you got what you want to do is replace some of the responsibilities that mitch has i talked
21:09about before he can be and has been through his career fantastic rebounder he's an nba career best
21:15rebounding percentage of 24.9 he's done that through he's really good at screen assist there
21:20are things he does the defense the rim protection yeah that'll be an adventure so my thing is you
21:26talked about adding size and it's still here with one of these last veteran minimums they could add a
21:30third center there's a lot of talk about the next fan base about well drummond is not a good backup
21:36center i would tell everybody pump the brakes on that really i'm surprised at that i actually thought
21:41i thought more people i saw i saw a lot of favorable feedback to the move which kind of surprised
21:45i saw
21:46favorable feedback from people who i think look at this from a rational standpoint and understand that
21:51the knicks can still upgrade this position during the season i think there's a camp of people that
21:55understand the knicks can upgrade the center position at the deadline and there's in my opinion
22:01irrational folks who were like the roster has to be this now by opening night it's like no it doesn't
22:07well i was talking more so i saw an irrational camp of people who were like oh no this is
22:11as good as
22:12like he's as good as mitchell robertson because of the rebounding i saw that i'm like and y'all saw
22:17the second round of the playoffs no disrespect i saw that and i was like i don't think y'all
22:22really believe
22:23that yeah um like like andre drum is good at certain things that he can really provide this is my
22:31point
22:31he can fill some of the responsibilities of mitch is he going to give you the rim protection in the
22:36defense no no no different type of big what you need is what you're hoping when andre drummond is
22:42just just reasonably stay in front of people yeah and by the way you'll get the occasional corner
22:46three also which he's added that to his game he'll hit his feet throws a little bit better for
22:50whatever that's worth um okay third center yep you have some names i do have some names okay the first
22:58one and stephan bondy talked about this with me yesterday and he's not 100 sure but he said he still
23:04that heard the knicks will be trying to crick the tires on this person just got waved by the
23:08denver nuggets that's jonas valentunas oh boy now does jonas valentunas want to play as a third
23:12center this is another question of defensive adventures yeah got to right um i'll throw some
23:18other names good hands uh nice hook shot good postgame good postgame um i i mean if if i have
23:26andre drummond i feel like i'm compounding it with jonas valentunas i feel like i would want a
23:31different kind of center for my third center yeah yeah i would so okay yeah although i like
23:35jonas valentunas in a vacuum i we're also i'm not sure he's going to be in the nba next year
23:40he
23:40might want to go play overseas he was getting interest uh from different teams in europe last
23:45year uh and this this is going to pop up again he almost went home last year so we'll see
23:49we'll see
23:51player who's been rumored to the knicks for a lot of years through trades is still a free agent
23:55right now at the time of his recording this that is nick richards local ties local ties
23:59kind of fits the younger ish profile the type of center nicks might want to look that's a little
24:04change from andre drummond has a lot of um a lot of fans amongst nicks nation i've come to realize
24:10i'd be fine with him as a third center signing i think i think he'd be great for that spot
24:16veteran
24:17minimum i wonder if you need to give him a second year option or whatever but knowing the nicks and
24:21the voodoo that they do in these deals they're gonna be a one plus two with two team options i
24:28can see
24:28that i can totally see that nick richards was productive in in chicago but it's chicago i mean
24:33but as is a backup as if you told me hey there's an open competition for backup center heading into
24:41training camp and it's between andre drummond nick richards and trey jameson i'd be like you know what
24:48perfectly fine and if and if somebody has that spot like by by the chokehold in february where you feel
24:56like you don't really have to upgrade at the trade deadline that that then it worked out i think
25:00because i don't i don't go into i don't go into training camp if they get nick richards being like
25:06oh yeah andre drum is definitely number two nick richards number three i'm like oh well they should
25:10battle for it i like that legitimately i like that and i think that could be a good battle and
25:13i think
25:13that'd be a good signing and whoever wins wins and then if you still look at both of them playing
25:19or
25:19whoever takes the second spot like you said by the trade deadline you want to upgrade you can
25:22the knicks have flexibility and options to upgrade at the trade deadline to upgrade the
25:26center position despite not having a ton of first round picks yeah despite not having a ton of second
25:31rounders around around too and also that you know the cola could have value doddy could have value
25:38maybe damn you're not believing well he's in summer league so we have you know what if we'll let
25:44everybody know friday we are going to be doing a post-game live show after the first summer league
25:49game i'm sure we will talk a lot about friday i'm sure look you and i you and i went
25:54into last
25:54season being like we think he can make the rotation and we retracted that before halloween like
26:00i don't think i ever said anything about it again no i don't think i've said anything about it by
26:05the
26:05way by the way we weren't crazy because the knicks felt the same way they started him the first game
26:10of the year in abu dhabi yeah but i i i don't know it was a showcase it was a
26:15showcase it absolutely
26:16was like absolutely was but he still so he still has fans and organizations no he does i'm not saying
26:23that we'll save it and we've seen we've seen wings basically like not be productive and then just pop
26:30in year three we'll see he's got i don't know if it's gonna happen he's got a lot to show
26:33at summer
26:33league um i'm gonna throw a couple two more names to you one i know is a guy you like
26:37moses brown
26:37um you always talk about getting him a shout and i'm gonna another veteran moses brown i i put in
26:43the in nick richards category although he's not as as good necessarily because nick richards has
26:48figured out how to stay in the league consistently yeah um but moses brown is first of all all first
26:55team 10 day you give him a 10 day contract you've been someplace you already know like he's gonna you
27:00already know what he's gonna give you it's 18 minutes and he'll put up eight and eight and then he'll
27:03be done you know a couple dunks and he'll look amazing at times but then other times
27:07you're like wait what's going on here also local ties teammate of uh cole anthony covered him in high
27:12school uh against who we had on the show actually joe abertella when he was at archbishop malloy
27:17so um moses brown is another one although i think if if you get somebody like him he's probably more
27:23so competing to stay on the roster as opposed to nick richards who i think would just make the team
27:28and
27:28compete with andre drummond i think moses brown's probably a rung below just because of where he is in
27:32his career right now biz mac biombo i mean he barely played last year yeah conceptually so
27:38conceptually it makes sense it's like veteran uh shot blocker although less so now because he
27:43doesn't play as much um a voice obviously too but if you're looking for somebody i'd rather go nick
27:49richard if you're looking for somebody to play yeah like if you're signing this spot not to be the 13th
27:54man because if you need a 13th man that makes more sense if you need like a 10th man or
27:59somebody
27:59compete for the 10th spot nick richards all day i would put moses brown ahead of biombo there too
28:04i'm actually with you on that too listen now listen we're scraping the bottom of the barrel here
28:09um for third center options i think that's the type i think if the next sign nick richards to come
28:14and compete like you said with andre drummond i think that's a huge win i i think you do i'd
28:18like
28:18to see that happen actually i think that will if you told me the last two spots that they can
28:23give out
28:23with veterans minimums went to nick richards and jordan clarkson totally great great i think it's great
28:29great i think it's totally fine you got those highway robbery contracts of the guys you resigned
28:34and then you got two players who you know at least can play in the nba yeah minimum contracts great
28:40uh
28:41three actually with andre drummond i would say he's not a no his the minimum i would say all things
28:46considered even with losing mitchell robinson to bring back 95 of your team it's the 96 whatever
28:54percentage it would be when you bring clarkson back that's a that's a damn good offseason
28:59while in the context i know this won't make some people happy all with the context of
29:03avoiding the second apron yeah if you were able to do that and keep and keeping your flexibility
29:07to still be able to make moves and add great salaries and having added six second round picks
29:12during the draft also yep which we're gonna come back to because i'm sure we are i'm i'm sure that's
29:17something we'll be thinking about once trade season comes yep and we'll be thinking about it so i guess
29:21the last thing i'll add in i'll add in uh drew eubanks appears to still be available also who's been
29:26around okay we're talking about veterans he's decent uh and our boy really my boy tony bradley
29:32oh that's who's trying to get that pension
29:35yo we're here during the watch alongs we talked about that what does he need one more season he
29:40need one more year for that 10 season let me say this roofie tony bradley not here in new york
29:44that's that's all i'm saying get that pension tony bradley uh last thing before we get out of here
29:50uh when you look at the knicks this offseason what they've done and i think it's been a fine
29:55offseason for them and i think a lot of fans tend to look at what else is happening in the
30:00east
30:01what's happening around the nba i know we're still really money two more seasons by the way okay
30:05what we're still looking at in terms of where will lebron end up
30:11not here should no we're not doing that we're not doing do you think the knicks should still be
30:15the favorites in the east yeah yeah yeah yeah there's no i mean mr robinson went to the celtics
30:22who traded jalen brown um for picks and paul george because they didn't want to pay him anymore
30:28because they didn't want to pay him anymore so they're going to restructure their team i'm fully
30:32confident in uh saying that the celtics will be like at least decent if not good
30:39in the regular season the playoffs we'll see um there's a there's a theory that bill simmons
30:46threw out there that i think is interesting where they look at their team and maybe maybe
30:49what they're thinking is you give tatum jalen brown's usage from last year and then you have
30:55paul george in what used to be jalen brown's role maybe that makes their roster make more sense i could
31:00see that but all of which is to say like if you look at odds celtics have been up there
31:06in terms of
31:06being the favorites the knicks are the favorites right now i think i think to me there's there's
31:10nothing that suggests oh the knicks shouldn't be the favorites if you want to tell me they may take
31:16a step back because of mr robinson then i'm open to that sure they're not as good because of that
31:22i
31:23think they've lost something but you you then need to tell me who's the team in the east who outright
31:28just jumped ahead of them because i don't think that's happened i think and to be clear i think the
31:32east is going to be a much better dog fight this year but i but i don't good team after
31:37good team
31:38indiana's good miami's good detroit's good boston will probably be good philly is good
31:46i still think that with all that there's teams that i'm missing atlanta charlotte orlando like
31:50there's there's teams all over the place with all that being said i still think the knicks are the
31:55best team i think they're the deepest team yes they have the most connectivity i think they have the
31:59chemistry it's all going to come down to health and they have enough flexibility also and flexibility
32:04not the most out of all their peers but they have enough flexibility like every season it's going to
32:08come down to health and where they are in the playoffs what can they do to upgrade the roster
32:12particularly the backup five if they can buy the trade deadline but some people are going to say oh
32:17well that's you know you know somebody brought up to me here in the newsroom the other day
32:21philadelphia and i'm like okay how many games is joe lb gonna play cleveland's a team that i missed
32:25also by the way um man yeah with with philly they still need to round out their bench although
32:30it's looking a little better now if they get lebron that's interesting although i'm still skeptical he
32:35he goes that i'm still skeptical that he's gonna go anywhere but cleveland or miami where he's been
32:40before for like his send-off that just makes the most sense um and basketball wise those fits make
32:45more sense i still think those teams are better than the knicks i just think knicks have the most
32:48versatility i don't know i just don't think about the knicks yeah and now does it matter no that's how
32:53they're playing come to playoffs right that's that's what's ultimately gonna matter but like
32:57the knicks have the best team in the eastern conference right now um on paper uh and just
33:03the connectivity that you're talking about matters like i i'm not like yo jalen brunson's wrist is
33:09is jacked up and they're screwed like he they're expecting him to be bad to be good a lot of
33:14time
33:14training camp comes around he put up a 45 piece in game five with a bad wrist crazy and probably
33:19a
33:19bad ankle i was saying during the streams i was like is he getting i was saying like i wouldn't
33:23be
33:23surprised if he would need off-season surgery i just didn't think it was the wrist i thought
33:26it'd be the ankle potentially wow amazing oh and not to mention the rafters also like the east is
33:31gonna have forgot about them there are there are a lot of good teams in the eastern legitimately
33:37there are 10 teams who i think are capable of winning at least 45 games but not everyone will
33:43just based on numbers like this is not not how it's gonna work like multiple teams might have the
33:49season from hell there's gonna be good teams in the play and like the east is gonna be a bloodbath
33:53so whoever's gonna be the healthy healthiest good team is gonna win the title that's generally how
33:58it goes it was the knicks last year it was they were the best fourth quarter team they were a
34:02very
34:02good team they were also healthy when it mattered that's what's gonna get you the championship now
34:06every year we're seeing the same thing i agree 100 agree i think that's a good note for us to
34:10end on
34:11here on this edition of straight up flushing excuse me straight up flush i'm talking the wrong show i
34:15just talked this i just did mets yesterday i talked too much david stars you don't got game
34:20this is what we're talking about wow and why you know what why would the wrong blue and orange team
34:24be on my mind because i've talked about them too much in the last couple yeah trade that line's
34:28coming up that's all we got to talk about with that team um over there but on new york guy
