00:15what's up everybody welcome back to another edition of new york got game dexter henry with
00:19my guy brian fonseca brian how you doing all right hey doing all right nicks we had a totally
00:26different idea for this episode totally different until a few hours ago then scrapped it and then
00:31the nicks did basically what y'all all want them to do which is video game style just hey sign
00:37everybody sign a bunch of the guys that we've been talking about to non-guaranteed deals invite them
00:42into camp and now they're gonna have a ridiculously interesting training camp roster yeah so we're
00:47gonna talk about that today we're gonna talk about the exhibit nine guys the nicks signed to
00:51non-guaranteed deals there's five guys we're gonna talk about it's very interesting brian and i are
00:55gonna break all that down but to help us break it down the best is going to be our own
01:02nicks beat
01:02reporter for the new york post is going to join us it's my guy stephan bondy joining me now steph
01:08what's going on man how you doing what's up man i'm good thank you for that kind intro i appreciate
01:13it hey well i should also add championship writer covering the next body i forgot it was all me
01:20i gotta put that on steph we have to do that because we respect the work obviously um steph let's
01:27get into it here because the nicks they brought in five veterans on exhibit nine deals and just to let
01:33the people know is bruce brown drew eubanks uh john conchar ochia bhaji and james weisman okay those are
01:41the five they brought in on the exhibit nine deals the way you look at the roster right now as
01:46it's
01:46currently constructed um it looks like everybody's just battling for one standard spot here why did
01:52the knicks this is the second offseason we've seen them do this why did they choose this open
01:57competition uh between these guys again choosing that approach again and what do you think the front
02:02office is going to be measuring most closely when they look at this open competition yeah so i mean
02:08here's the deal they they have 13 players under contract um they can have as many as 15 so
02:15technically they have two roster spots open but they can only sign one while staying under the
02:20second apron and it doesn't make sense to go above the second apron to sign the 15th man on the
02:26roster
02:26so they're currently for all intents and purposes have one spot to fill um positionally if you look up and
02:34down the roster the biggest need is for another big man another center right now they only have carl anthony
02:40townsend and andre drummond as their only centers but if i look at the guys they brought in uh the
02:46best players
02:46in my mind are the two guards uh bruce brown and john conchar agree so so you know the bringing
02:54in these caliber
02:56players for this one roster spot doesn't make a lot of sense unless there's a trade on the horizon where
03:04you could
03:04either you know create another spot another another roster spot or you um you know get rid of the log
03:12jam at guard and you're able to bring in another guard so that's kind of where i stand i was
03:17told
03:17that the philosophy was much like last season they're going to bring in guys make it a competitive camp and
03:22you know i like that you know it was good last season they were if we if we go back
03:26a year they were in
03:28a similar situation they were looking at we have to make a trade because we want to bring in two
03:32of the
03:33guys malcolm brogdon and landry shammett and then out of nowhere malcolm brogdon retired so that kind
03:39of like you know eased eased that little problem now you know i see something similar um you know
03:46brewing in this training camp so it's interesting right because it's not i think fans will look at
03:53this and they'll think it's maybe just one competition or two but like you said they're not going to sign
03:57two guys to guarantee deals you're not going to exceed the second apron to sign the 15th man in the
04:01roster do you think there's an inside track for the guard slash wings here bruce brown john
04:08conchar or is this going to be more all eyes on a big man competition between james wiseman and drew
04:14eubanks well i mean i know that john cart conchar's representatives are telling people that you know
04:22they had multiple options and they signed here to the knicks because they were told and they feel like
04:30they have a really good shot at making the roster i all can also report i think it's been reported
04:36before but gabe vincent a veteran point guard uh he does i saw he was you know report he was
04:42working
04:43out with the knicks he wasn't working out with the knicks he you know got up some shots he met
04:47with the
04:47team and it's still unclear whether he's gonna sign but he's another point guard um so you know i i
04:56um i forgot your question but uh if you give it to me again i'll circle back because i was
05:01uh all
05:01over the place there yeah no i i was i was kind of asking more about the what would the
05:06preference be
05:07for the knicks because in talks of position and getting this last guarantee deal would it be them
05:12looking more at the guard wings because you were saying you you we all agree here that the priority
05:18should be should be that they should add a third center we would think that's the best need for
05:23the roster i i i feel that way at least that would be the best need for them i do
05:27too the better
05:27players available are not centers it's kind of the problem yeah but i guess what i'm asking steph is
05:32steph what are you what are you looking at in terms of what do you think the team is looking
05:38at i
05:39should say are they focused more on adding another the best player they can and give me if it is
05:43another
05:43wing or is dead saying they should add another big man here what do you think the team is zeroing
05:47in on
05:48here well you know i don't i don't i don't want to speak for the team i'll speak for myself
05:52right
05:52now um bruce brown to me is the best player that they signed i mean um you know he he's
05:59just a few
06:00years removed from being a important piece on a championship team um from signing a the knicks
06:06were actually interested in signing him right after that at denver uh season and you know he went to
06:12indiana instead on a pretty good contract he's only a few years removed from that his career kind of
06:16got derailed when he was part of that um pascal siakam trade and went to toronto but he played 82
06:23games last season for a good team i'm surprised that he the best he can do is a non-guaranteed
06:29deal
06:29i understand that he's not the best three-point shooter but he gets after defensively he's only 30
06:35years old uh he can score in transition i i liked him ever going back to you know his time
06:41in brooklyn
06:41and kevin durant for whatever reason didn't like him but um he to me he's the best player that that
06:47they brought in so that that's you know some you got to decide they don't need another guard though
06:53like they they if they keep miles mcbride like and they have jordan clarkson they have landry
06:58shamit like i i don't know where you would fit bruce brown into the rotation so these are these are
07:05questions that are going to be settled later i wish i could tell you hey this guy is the inside
07:09track and
07:09they're going to trade this guy or they're not going to trade that guy i don't know the
07:12answers to that stuff i agree with you that bruce brown is the best player i absolutely agree with
07:17you on on that i guess we look let's don't fit the best though no but let's talk about this
07:23do you
07:25think that it's likely the knicks look to upgrade the backup center position and possibly move a miles
07:33mcbride because when you're bringing in this many guards it makes me think about that i know we
07:36someone would speculate on trades but is it possible more likely that they could move a
07:41miles mcbride or somebody else because they're bringing in all right if i links if i look at
07:47two people who they would move quickly um it would number one the most obvious and the easiest to do
07:54is become dottie yes he's got a he's got a player option or team option for next year that they
08:00need to
08:00pick up by halloween and yeah and it's like it's five million there'd be crazy to pick that up so
08:08he's kind of you know on his last legs here he's going to be a free agent after the year
08:13uh he has not shown that he can you know be part of a rotation of a playoff rotation or
08:19anything like
08:19that the problem with trading him is he doesn't he has no value so you would be giving up an
08:26asset to
08:27create space to sign two players the other person is like you said miles mcbride because he is you
08:35know unlikely i would say unlikely to get an extension um and he will become a free agent after the
08:41season
08:42and you know the knicks risk losing him for nothing with that said miles mcbride is still a very
08:48an excellent player he the knicks are in a win now window so giving him up um i would want
08:56something
08:56back that can help the team and that will be difficult because his salary is so low i don't
09:02know what kind of player you can get back that is of the caliber of miles mcbride it would be
09:07very
09:07difficult trade to make is somebody like bruce brown that could could he fill that role i mean
09:13they're similar players but miles mcbride is better he's younger he shoots better um i would rather have
09:20miles mcbride than bruce brown i'd agree i think bruce brown um steph if i may bring something else to
09:26your attention i think he may fit a different role because one direction i looked at when they
09:30brought up uh or brought in rather bruce brown and john conchar was who we talked about last week
09:37and that was josh hart because he has a weird contract situation moving forward and they don't
09:43have a long-term commitment right now is there a world where we're focusing on the wrong thing
09:48temporarily and we should be looking at hey this is a little bit of a josh hart emergency plan since
09:54they just kind of signed two giant uh diet josh hart players in the wings right now if you're
10:02suggesting that they're gonna trade josh hart that no not that no no but that they're not that they
10:07may not resign him or they may be further apart in extension talks i'll say this confidently i'll say
10:13this confidently as long as jalen brunson is on the knicks josh hart will be on the knicks so i
10:19think
10:19those two are tied together um i don't think that it would be smart of the knicks to trade
10:27or to say all right bye bye josh hart because we have bruce brown waiting in the wings that's
10:33just not a you know i i do not expect josh hart this to be a josh hart emergency plan
10:38but we have to
10:39get you on record just to make sure yeah no and listen they're there and i know we're talking about
10:44extension with josh hart you know they own they it's not as big of a you know emergency with him
10:51as it is with certainly with deuce and also with carl anthony towns because they can the knicks can
10:57just pick up josh hart's team option and then we're not talking about a negotiate an extension
11:03negotiation next summer with josh hart so they could just kick the can down the road and then you can
11:09get
11:09you know i i wrote this and i could see it you know josh hart jalen brunson dual signing announced
11:14on the roommates podcast in the summer of 2027 so like you know yeah so like you know something like
11:22that i i don't i don't see josh hart going anywhere with this team okay i'm i'm sure people will
11:27be glad
11:27to hear that the other thing is and the more obvious one which we've already touched on but it feels
11:33like
11:34they may want to sign two of these guys and in order to do that you're gonna have to make
11:38a trade
11:38you did not bring up and you dex did not bring up the name tyler kolek i wonder if he
11:44fixes into
11:44all of this too especially since you also mentioned gabe vincent who is a veteran point guard who has
11:50played off ball also but is he another trade piece for this team seeing that he probably has more value
11:57than pakom dadi because he's shown more at the nba level and he's going to cost less even next year
12:02if his fourth year option is accepted yeah um i think he's more valuable around the league than
12:09pakom dadi so you wouldn't have to you know give up a you know something drastic to get rid of
12:14a
12:14salary i i had i didn't look at this but i have to look at the salary matchups um and
12:21how that would
12:21fit like if they're able to dump tyler kolek or pakom dadi to a team that can just absorb him
12:27with cap
12:27space or whatever would that free up enough space for the next to then sign two guys i have to
12:32look
12:33at what i haven't done this yet i have to look at what tyler kolek is making i have to
12:36look at what
12:37pakom dadi is making and see if any of that stuff you know how that all math works out but
12:41that that
12:42obviously would be a priority is you have if you're going to do a trade like that you have to
12:46do it to
12:47create enough space to sign two guys would you do you think that's a realistic option here steph or if
12:53you were if you were leon rose would you want to sign two of the guys from this group is
12:58that
12:59a prudent thing for the knicks to do here are two guys here worthy of being signed
13:04i think that i'm going to say the same exact thing i said last year if you're going to trade
13:09pakom dadi a fine pakom dadi a you know it's not realistic that he's going to be a big part
13:16of the
13:17rotation next year it's not realistic that he's going to be a big part of the future um and you're
13:22able
13:23to get off the books by giving up a second round pick and become dadi a to sign a second
13:27guy
13:27i like that move um deuce is a little is way different and then tyler kolek i still think
13:34has a future with this team uh i think he's going to get better i know he has some fans
13:38in the
13:38organization in powerful places so um i see i to me that's that would be less realistic okay so let
13:46me
13:46ask this if let's say let's just we don't get into all the details of the trade but let's say
13:51they do
13:52trade somebody and they're able to sign two guys here we are all in agreement that bruce brown
13:57is the best player of this exhibit nine group of guys that they signed to these non-guaranteed deals
14:02who's the other player you would want them to sign would it be a big and would you go wiseman
14:06or
14:07eubanks here um i don't really like you i mean steph is like no i'm good i you know i
14:16you know i don't
14:18know um i i what was he cut last year by the pacers and didn't even play most of the
14:25season
14:25got hurt yeah he's been hurt that's part of the problem too but when he's been healthy he hasn't
14:30been awesome either eubanks he's not a good rebounder i i just don't um you know i i'm not
14:38a huge fan of either of them um now listen i'm not gonna sit here and say i've scouted these
14:43guys i've
14:44watched their tapes endlessly and i've watched you know their their games a lot i haven't um so
14:49maybe i'm missing something but to me i'm i'm not a fan of either of them that is that is
14:55absolutely
14:56so so steph are the best two players here in order perhaps bruce brown and then john conchar
15:02and if that's the case aren't they probably only going to sign one of those guys
15:07yeah it would make sense to only sign one of them and like i said you know uh there's been
15:12messaging from john karchar's side that they have a very good chance of making the roster so
15:18you know i don't know what's smoke and mirrors with that but um if you follow the path that path
15:25and
15:25bruce brown it doesn't make sense to keep bruce brownie both bruce brown and john conchar
15:31yeah it'll be it's gonna be very interesting it is a interesting i can't believe they all got
15:35non-guaranteed yeah i think that was a shock for me steph it's maybe more so to what steph's point
15:40was on bruce brown yeah i am a bit shocked that he signed an exhibit nine deal that was shocking
15:45to
15:46me um because i like steph think that he still has something to get granted it's kind of an
15:50archetype thing too because he's he's six four but you know he plays up and he can't like his shot
15:56is
15:57not like the most reliable i know people will say he shot 38 from three but the volume wasn't there
16:01yeah it wasn't insane but chan charge is worth chan charge shot like 28 last year yeah i know
16:07he's 35 for his career but he shot 28 he's he's another like really good six foot five rebounder
16:13also for whatever that's worth so again he's kind of like really die like really diet josh
16:18heart but really diet all right staff we will see what the knicks do and how they round out their
16:23roster uh for training camp uh i will see you later this week and then i'll see you at media
16:28day
16:28in a couple weeks thanks steph appreciate it all right man i'll see you okay we heard from steph
16:33but now we're going to talk a little bit and try to break down some things with these players and
16:39again very interesting group very interesting move by the knicks i would say to have five of these guys
16:45on non-guaranteed deals i like steph like the competition i do like that probably would like a
16:52little bit more if there are some better options for bigs but we just did that a couple weeks ago
16:55where we showed you guys what the options were for bigs and some of you out there were commenting
17:01on ig on x telling us they should go for james wiseman and we did see that we saw we
17:08saw this
17:09no i just made a face because you said x whatever x twitter whatever still twitter i'm trying to i'm
17:14trying to be accurate as a journalist supposed to be accurate so it is called x whatever um
17:21elon don't need your respect it's fine he does not anyway but somebody look speaking of looking
17:26for respect bruce brown might be looking for some respect because here he is getting an exhibit nine
17:32contract i agree with steph that is a little bit shocking i guess the question i want to ask you
17:38let
17:38me let me toss it with this sure because this kind of could frame to bruce brown but for me
17:43it can also
17:44let's look at everybody who do you think out of this group has the best chance of impacting the
17:49knicks roster this season bruce brown
17:55but are you saying that are you saying that with the assumption that there would be a trade
18:00yeah because i think so here here's how i'm looking at this you have we have not talked about
18:08we have not talked about ochai abaji really enough at all i all due respect think that he's third
18:15amongst these wings that we're talking about i agree he's definitely number three um but you could make
18:22a ceiling argument for him just because of his age comparatively he's 26 years old whereas john
18:27conchar is already 30 and bruce brown who's also been in a league eight years just turned 30 last month
18:35um i don't know how much left is there for all of these different guys but clearly they were decent
18:43enough to get these contracts again surprised that they all are on non-guaranteed deals but in terms
18:50of who make the best impact i just would lean bruce brown because he's the best player just in terms
18:55of
18:55credentials the reason why i think he's in this position in his career it's kind of like what steph told
19:01us it's been wonky for him since the pascal siakam trade and on top of that you have somebody in
19:06bruce brown who if you look at his archetype he's about six foot four maybe really six foot three
19:12depending on you know what you're looking at and he kind of plays the guard position like a power
19:19forward would which is why i call them like a junior josh hart like a real junior josh hart except
19:24you love
19:24this this is a prime five second special for me but some front offices and this is not the knicks
19:31because they signed them but some front offices may look at that and be like well i'd rather get a
19:35guard with more length i'd rather get a guard with more reliable shooting because while he's not been
19:40a terrible shooter in his career he's an inconsistent one and he's not the most willing shooter which
19:45is coincidentally a problem that some knicks fans have had with josh hart throughout his career
19:49like he can rebound above his position a little bit he's not a josh hart level rebounder but is
19:54an indisputably a very good rebounder for a guard he is he can score a little bit he's played on
20:00championship roster before and he's also played on multiple playoff rosters before not to mention you
20:05know denver last year and obviously his previous run with denver but even earlier in his career he did
20:10make it to the playoffs with the brooklyn nets and that was a brooklyn nets team in 2020 2021 that
20:15people think could have won the title if they had their shit together for lack of a better way of
20:18putting it except they never have their shit together they never do um john conchar is also
20:24very interesting to me he's the second most interesting player uh of this list to me in
20:29terms of i think i know what i'm gonna get which is another guard who is a very good rebounder
20:34who can
20:34guard up a little bit who's tough whose jumper is kind of inconsistent uh throughout his career and
20:40even last year on limited volume albeit 25 from the field but even for his career on limited volume
20:46about 18 minutes a game shoots about two threes a game and about 35 the 35 is not the issue
20:53there
20:53that's fine but it's the two attempts and doesn't shoot much and that's still with half of his shots
20:59coming from three he just doesn't take a lot of shots at all so he's kind of one of these
21:02old
21:03school type of guards that you're putting out there primarily for defense and rebounding yeah he's
21:08i like i like that you said that there he's that old school kind of guard for that he's yeah
21:12he's
21:12again he's a good cutter right not a bad passer pretty good bruce brown too by the way right those
21:18that's but that's why it's like low usage connectors is what i like to call them that's what you are
21:22low
21:22low usage it's like it's like it's like it's like if josh hart had his had a sore knee in
21:282k
21:28and then his overall were to drop several points you get bruce brown or john conchar that's basically what
21:34it is here's the thing fans are gonna see this and i already saw this and doing a video reaction
21:38to conchar signing andrew eubanks and fans are like what are we doing why are we going out and
21:44getting a bigger wing you know what that is 6'8 6'9 and my thing is those guys everybody
21:50wants an
21:51og an inobi not saying they have to be og an inobi everybody wants those bigger wings those guys don't
21:56just grow on trees they're just not readily out there you know what the thing with those guys and
22:00you could wind up with a cam reddish if you get a big wing right like that just because you
22:04got a
22:04wing that's 6'8 doesn't mean anything right if you want size and you want people that could play
22:08like size would be ideal and this is where somebody's development like a mohammedia war this season comes
22:13in but those guys aren't just out there are 6'8 6'9 guys who could actually shoot and defend
22:19especially
22:20not in september no not in september your options are slim so to be mad i just want to clear
22:25that up to
22:25say that they should have gone out and got somebody with more size first i'd be like who
22:29right that you think is good that will be signed at this point in september all these guys signed
22:34here to the point that brian made are for a reason that they have been signed here at this point
22:38in
22:38september i agree with look i agree bruce brown to me is the best player out of this yes now
22:44if he's
22:44making the team and where i'm with steph on this it doesn't feel like it makes sense because it doesn't
22:49feel like they need where's he play that's the thing he's the best player here and you mentioned
22:53impact but that's why but that's why you when you add the follow-up question are you assuming a trade
22:58because yeah if you just if i'm just like okay you put bruce brown on this team where does he
23:02play
23:03like where does he play right now that's the problem because coming off the bench you already
23:07have jose you have deuce you have landry shammett you still have jordan clarkson on the roster you
23:12still have tyler kolik on the roster where does bruce brown play which tells me there could be a trade
23:17unless unless this is all for show and they wind up just signing wiseman or drew eubanks and then it's
23:23like i don't think bruce brown and john concha are just here for show i think they're gonna get a
23:28real opportunity to make this team i don't know if they will are you saying that you don't think
23:32drew eubanks and james wiseman are gonna get a real opportunity to make this no but i i look at
23:36these
23:36names and i'm like okay how could you not sign two of them one wing and one big because all
23:46due respect
23:46to tyler kolik i don't know where he's gonna play this year we just mentioned all these other guards
23:50it's like okay i have jose deuce and landry shammett coming off the bench i'm already small
23:56and i still have jordan clarkson who played more of a role than tyler kolik last year
24:01and it's like tyler kolik to me feels more like as we mentioned with stefan bondi a trade piece
24:07just because i agree contractually where he is in his career with two years left because that's how you
24:12have to think about it you have to look at the contracts right deuce mcbride is still playing for a
24:16contract but they're not i don't think they're going to trade him tomorrow maybe they do maybe
24:20he just walks i don't know what that's going to look like maybe they trade him and tyler kolik
24:24gets to play but then it's like you have tyler kolik and jose alvarado and landry shammett is that
24:28is that something that makes a lot of sense to you defensively no like something has to give with this
24:33roster is the point and you have a lot of smalls and you don't have a lot of bigs right
24:38okay and we're
24:40getting to all this and sure are there players among this five that have signed this is every nine that
24:45could
24:45impact this next roster i think what we're both saying is yes yeah but but some other things have
24:52some other things have to happen in order for that to happen i who would you put after bruce brown
24:56as the next player that you think could impact the roster the most contract yes but i'm more
25:03intrigued by wiseman i would i could argue that i'm the most intrigued by wiseman i just don't know
25:08i don't know if i don't know if i trust i gotta be honest he's number five on the list
25:12to me of these
25:12guys wow really yeah yeah the in the intrigue in his like skill set is not enough to bump him
25:19above
25:19i what he's five right now he'd have to have a really good camp and a really good preseason for
25:25for him he and the health the health health that intrigue could move up but i can't rank him high
25:31how am i gonna put i how am i gonna put him over ochaibaji right now like i trust more
25:39of what i've seen
25:39from him oh yeah oh yeah in his limited time on the as a six foot five wing and what
25:47i think he
25:47could contribute to roster than i do wiseman right now wiseman i gotta see it he's got the most to
25:51prove on this list yeah definitely easily like he's got the most to prove yeah right so that's why i'm
25:57at five it's not off a talent yeah yeah because i think what you're saying is i'm intrigued by the
26:01talent if that comes together there is a world just to be clear to everybody there's a world that
26:05in the middle of training camp middle of the preseason brian and i sitting here we're like
26:09yo james wiseman is looking all right and the knicks could have something and he could push
26:15or andre drummond but to your point i still trust i trust bruce brown the most in terms of like
26:19who i
26:20think is going to be who i think could be a contributor right away bruce brown then conchar
26:26then eubanks maybe but i don't i mean ocha like he wasn't he the problem with ochaibaji is
26:33no one watched him in toronto toronto excuse me people from toronto will kick your ass yeah
26:42but like people didn't watch him like he's been fine yeah but two years ago he shot the ball really
26:49well you and i've actually talked about him off and we talked about looking at options but he shot
26:53the ball really well his shot is very inconsistent and his shot is inconsistent last year he didn't
26:57shoot the ball very well yeah so you don't know what you're getting with him but that's also why i
27:02put
27:03him over i've seen a year of him where it's looked good i've seen that toronto uh toronto two years
27:08ago yeah two years ago yeah yeah and honestly and honestly in brooklyn last year from what i saw
27:12it wasn't too bad but it's like these games don't mean anything right i need to see when you're playing
27:18good level competition which i've seen with bruce brown right the most out of everybody which is why
27:23you trust him you've seen john contra be a part of some decent grizzlies team yeah he's been in the
27:29playoffs he hasn't gone too far i mean not to not his fault and when we say not that he's
27:34played a
27:34ton but he's been there but when we say contribute is that can you be can you contribute to the
27:39regular
27:39season rotation and give yourself a chance to maybe contribute in the postseason now i'm going to say
27:45this for all of this all these guys we're talking on this list particularly the wing the guard wings
27:50we're talking about here yeah i don't think it'll be a good season next fans if this person is playing
27:55more than mohammed diawara that is not something you should want to see that is not what you should
28:00want you should you need something idea we talked about this on the last episode with ej stewart you
28:05should need that and want that if you're a knicks fan now i just want to go back to trades
28:10real quick
28:11before we get about here because what i find interesting is if there is a trade if there is a
28:16consolidation trade are the knicks making this consolidation trade where they don't believe
28:22even one of these bigs that's interesting and they are trying to go upgrade and get themselves
28:27a big because that is the move that you think could be around that'd be a worrisome sign to me
28:33well no no no i i'm like the bigs are so not up to par where you have to package
28:41a couple guys now
28:42to try to get one but we just went through the options a couple of weeks ago and what i'm
28:45saying is
28:46what if you what if early in camp you're looking at and i know there's already been some people in
28:51the
28:51comments oh andre drummond's gonna have it he's motivated you guys are bringing him down whatever
28:56that means stupid what if we're just preparing for every scenario possible yes that's what i'm doing
29:02but what if to prepare for a scenario the knicks look at this through training camp they're like
29:09you know like we're seeing here now i had said i think they'd give it more time during the regular
29:13season maybe you get to a point of december and we'll see they'll reassess and reevaluate yeah but
29:18with these moves and the amount of wings that they brought in makes me think will they be willing
29:24to reevaluate a bit sooner than one might think i mean if everyone plays bad yeah but if andre
29:30drummond looks great then you're good i'm rooting for andre drummond to look good i hope he looks good
29:36i i hope that happens for him but you don't know are you confident in him holding up in the
29:42playoffs
29:42there's a long way to go between now and then but you would rather get somebody to play in and
29:47get
29:47minutes and i will still say i will still say this because the knicks gave that offer seed to musa
29:54which was a good one a smart move that told me a lot about how they really feel about the
30:00backup
30:00center and made calls for eve misi as well as we talked about now glad you brought up his name
30:06i'm sure you are the calls could still be there yep and you might still got all of the second
30:12round
30:13picks i don't know the pelicans might be willing to take deuce and they would also have to be willing
30:18to extend him would they take him with a dotty or a kolek and then say hey well we have
30:25an option
30:25on another young player that we could pick up although i don't think they would pick up that option
30:28because i don't think the knicks are either or would you be willing to extend deuce and give him
30:34somebody will i i think do i'm confident in saying deuce will get money i just i don't know
30:39if it's going to be here i don't think it is unfortunately i i oh wow now you're right now
30:44you're right i don't think it is yeah i don't think so i don't think so i just when you
30:48just look at the
30:49when you read the tea leaves i don't have any information on this i think when you just look
30:52at the tea leaves and you look at all the extension stuff we talked about alvarado right and we talked
30:57about we talked about cad and josh hart we've talked about that this summer yeah and how those extensions
31:01look it just feels like he could be the odd man out mikhail's paid obviously jalen's gonna get
31:06paid obviously og's gonna get paid right it somebody's gonna be the odd man out can't keep
31:11everybody right you can't keep everybody the band is not gonna be here together forever it actually
31:16makes sense on the pelicans i'm looking at their roster again that's what i'm saying play him next
31:20playing next to jeremiah fears i don't know i don't know how long jordan pool and dejon tay murray
31:24gonna be there i also would add remember the knicks got themselves six second round picks
31:28at this draft you can attach some of that and if they really feel like they want to get that
31:33more
31:33athletic big in here their pathways to it would it shock me if this front office did that this
31:39preseason no yeah especially especially because the whole point of us bringing up even me see before
31:44last trade deadline before they got jose alvarado and we were outlining ways to get both of them they
31:50ended up just getting jose and obviously worked out but part of it is he has a similar contractual
31:55situation i don't know why i said that like that contractual situation to pacom daddia where he
32:01is 3.5 million this year and a team option for 5.6 just about for next year but feasible
32:06that you
32:06would take that option because he's actually proven to be a nice player and in new orleans he's probably
32:13not going to play that much all the time because you still have zion williamson you still have derrick
32:17queen that you're building around you know what i mean so it like he he feels like he feels like
32:24odd guy out deuce could be an odd guy out so this is a my issue for your issue not
32:30that the player is
32:30an issue but like my financial issue for your financial issue type of trade and then new orleans
32:35could be like well and i there would probably be picks involved maybe but to to just keep it with
32:41these two guys at this point because they make close to the same money new orleans could be like
32:45all right well deuce uh can play next to jeremiah fears can be complimentary to somebody we're trying to
32:51develop at point guard we don't know what we're going to do with dejon tay murray yet we don't
32:55know what we're going to do with jordan pool yet we still have herb jones for the time being we
32:58just
32:58got ben matherin you know sadiq based still on the roster so it's like okay deuce actually makes
33:03sense with all those players that i just mentioned and they don't have the issue that the knicks can
33:08potentially run into where they have too many guys that are like under six foot five under six foot
33:12four and they just can't play all of them like you can't play four of those dudes in a lineup
33:16at
33:16one time no just can't no it's because of the problem we talk about the knicks adding wings but
33:20if if you let's say the knicks and mermaid will make a trade like that the point we're making here
33:23is then if you bring in a bruce brown to sort of be the deuce mcbride replacement although i agree
33:30with bondi very different on this very different kind of player yeah i would rather have mcbride i
33:36think he's a better player to get you through the regular season as our good friend of the show
33:40ej stewart said the other day he's a regular season razor i would agree with that yeah yeah in terms
33:44of
33:44what he can do for you in the regular season but i could see the knicks the key here and
33:49this is why
33:49i want to stress it with the way the knicks have brought this in four guys under these exhibit nine
33:54deals what the knicks are trying to do whether they make a trade or don't make a trade right the
33:59the key thing to really understand here is they're trying to keep as much flexibility as they can
34:07while staying under the second apron and keeping this hopeful championship window open that is what
34:13they're trying to do if they could just sign two guys that they liked here without going over the
34:18second apron they would do that but they can't do that so they may need a little bit more flexibility
34:22and that's where to bondi's point that he was making that's where possibly moving on from a
34:27dadia or a colec could free up some room where you could sign both of these one of these guys
34:33these
34:33five two of these five here and round out your roster there's still some other options you could do
34:38could it be a two-way another two-way contract for somebody else there's still some other ways
34:42you can do things with the final roster spot but the key word is flexibility that's what the knicks
34:48are going to be about that's what they're going to be focused about whether they make another trade or
34:52not but i think they want the flexibility that even if it's not here in the preseason or through
34:57training camp that during the season if they look at a need and need to upgrade they will have the
35:02flexibility to do so that's what they want to keep during this championship window and i think
35:06that's the most important thing to watch look if i had to i'm not saying i'm betting on who will
35:12make this roster because so much of it has to do with will the knicks make another move i i
35:16really
35:17can't call this until i know if they make another if they trade if they trade dadia if they trade
35:23colec if they trade like if they trade anybody basically the world will have some answers then
35:28we'll have more answers okay we'll kind of it'll be the picture will be clearer yeah for us on what
35:32the
35:33knicks do i think if they trade one of those young players from the draft a couple years one of
35:37those
35:37third year players then i think it's likely you see like a bruce brown and or a pick the one
35:43of
35:43the centers now if james wiseman outplays drew eubanks sure i could see the knicks saying let's go
35:49with somebody with a higher upside a little more athleticism especially if you trust under drummond to
35:54be uh at least a regular season innings eater if not more than that but if you if you trust
35:59under
35:59drummond is the key really if you trust him to play 15 minutes a night during the regular season
36:0312 to 18 minutes a night whatever it is then you're like yeah we'll take a flyer on james wiseman
36:08and have him develop and sit for a while and you know he's gonna get his opportunity because that's
36:13just the nature of the nba now like everybody you're gonna get that everybody gets dinged up at some
36:18point right he'll get a shot and then we'll see what happens from there but yeah um it's also worth
36:24noting before we close out that uh landry shaman and john conchar share an agent so uh i would not
36:30sleep on john conchar's chances potentially john make this roster yep john contrar's chances which
36:38friend of the show ian begley uh said that his representation feels very good that he has a
36:43very good shot to make the team so we'll see how that just said the same said the same thing
36:48so
36:48talking to the same people i've heard all all this stuff very interesting that nick signed five of
36:52these guys to exhibit nine contracts we will see who makes the team unbelievably media day is under
36:59two weeks away training camp uh under two weeks away as also it is can't believe we are back here
37:05slow down season is coming back jesus we will be ready we'll have more on your guy game let us
37:10know
37:11in the comments who you think word should make the team should the knicks make a trade what should
37:15they do what kind of transaction would you like to see how would you like to see them keep their
37:18flexibility let us know what you think about all that that's going to do it for this edition
37:23of new york guy game that's my guy brian fonseca we'll have more for you next week with the idea
37:28we're supposed to do this week that we had to flip around because it's news but we have a good
37:33unless idea unless they do something else yeah yeah yeah and by the way signing all these dudes
37:39it's a it's a good problem to have if you're the knicks yeah it's a good you brought in some
37:43like
37:43dudes with legitimate nba backgrounds so this training camp is actually going to be worth
37:49following on a day-to-day basis and have something to watch hopefully some position battles to watch
37:53too should be pretty fun all right we'll be back with more next week for you on new york guy
37:58game
37:59until then everybody be safe peace
38:03and thanks for watching new york got game
38:06boom shakalaka
