00:00Whether you're an experienced cruiser, a first time seafarer or keen to make a splash, there's one thing we Brits are all on board with, we love cruising.
00:20British demand for cruises is higher than ever. I found my sea legs, just about. I was born with sea legs. There's romantic locations, breathtaking views, exciting activities, and treats and tipples galore.
00:46This is the life. This is the life. With surprises. Are you kidding me? Have I spelled this wrong? And new adventures around every corner. It's odds on. Oh, wow. We saw the dolphins. It was amazing. Our fun-loving Brits at sea will love the cruise.
01:03It's the final day aboard our ship, and our two groups of travellers are eager for one more adventure.
01:17With us this week, a seasoned traveller's mum and daughter, Jackie and Tamara.
01:25The cha-cha. I wish there was a sandbag.
01:30Also travelling with us are first-time cruisers, James and Damien.
01:33The couple of 20 years are enjoying their first holiday together in nearly a decade.
01:41It's been eight years since we've had a holiday, and it's just nice to chill out, to switch off, and just have a bit of fun together.
01:51Oh! And for James and Damien, they've certainly been making up for those eight years.
01:58From waffling around in Amsterdam...
02:01That's really one of the nicest things I've ever tried.
02:03Really nice.
02:04..to pushing their fishy boundaries in Lisbon...
02:07I think you normally try a little bit.
02:08No, no, definitely not.
02:10..and even learning a bit of the lingo.
02:12How do you say thank you in Portuguese?
02:16Obrigado.
02:17Ah, obrigado.
02:17Obrigado.
02:18One thing's for sure, they've always had their six beloved Spaniels in their thoughts.
02:25Our main passion in life is our dogs, so we've got six Cocker Spaniels,
02:29which we kind of travel up and down the country showing.
02:32We've also recently started breeding Cocker Spaniels as well,
02:34so they take up a lot of my time.
02:39It's A-U-R-O-R-A, Aurora.
02:42Well, she can be called Aurora.
02:45And for first-time cruisers Jackie and Tamara...
02:48Oh, truffle.
02:50That's you.
02:50I do love some truffle cheese, I'm not going to lie.
02:54They've also been spending some precious mum and daughter time together.
02:58Two, three, cha-cha-cha.
03:00Two, three.
03:01We bonded, we met new people, we've made some great friends along the way.
03:06Yeah!
03:06Yes!
03:07Eating good food.
03:08Yeah.
03:08I'm wondering how I've gone all my life without a baked Alaska, that's really good.
03:13We've enjoyed every location we've been to.
03:15So, I don't think you could ask for anything more from a holiday.
03:20Perfect pair of clothes?
03:21Yes!
03:21Our cruiser's first stop was four days ago in Amsterdam, and yesterday the ship left Lisbon
03:30and travelled south along the Atlantic, before reaching today's destination of Gibraltar,
03:36where our travellers will be hopping off.
03:38The overseas British territory of Gibraltar is a bit of a home away from home, with British
03:47shops, telephone boxes and even post boxes.
03:50You could be mistaken to think we're in Blighty, but actually, we're near the coast of Africa.
03:54It's the gateway between the Med and the Atlantic, and it's famous for the towering rock, secret
04:03tunnels and mischievous monkeys.
04:06It's no surprise that nearly 12 million visitors flock here every year.
04:11Enjoy your day.
04:11Have a nice day.
04:13And making it 12 million and two, it's our intrepid explorers, former cabin crew turned
04:19civil servants James and Damien.
04:22Really excited.
04:23I've never been to Gibraltar.
04:24I've flown into it, and I've seen the rock, but I've never got off.
04:27Having only experienced Gibraltar from on board a plane, the boys have big plans to enjoy
04:32the place on foot.
04:35I think plan a cable car ride up to the...
04:38Yes.
04:38Shall we go up on the cable car and then go exploring up on...
04:41That would be lovely.
04:42...monkeys and exploring the caves.
04:44So the last stop, and it's Gibraltar, and it's the one we've been looking forward to the
04:47most, isn't it?
04:48It has been, yes.
04:49Yeah, really looking forward to this.
04:50It's going to be a lot of...
04:52A bit happy to be here.
04:53Yes.
04:53It's also a bit sad.
04:54Because it's the end.
04:55Because it's coming towards the end, yeah.
04:56But it's a nice way to end at Gibraltar, some place that we've always wanted to go.
05:00There's loads of tables.
05:01Do you think we should start with breakfast somewhere?
05:03I think it's nice to sit on the edge of the water, and I think this place looks quite
05:07nice.
05:08This looks nice.
05:08Let's sit here.
05:09This looks really nice.
05:10Oh, it's really nice.
05:11So what's your first impression of the Gibraltar?
05:13I feel like it's got a very Mediterranean look about it, but everywhere I look, there's English
05:20signs, there's English street decor, there's English shops.
05:24So it is kind of weird, but no, I'm really liking it.
05:28Almost like a home from home, really.
05:29It is.
05:30And no wonder, although self-governing, Gibraltar has been under British sovereignty for more
05:36than 300 years, while the currency and language may be English, the region is rich with Spanish
05:43charm and more heritage dating back to 700 A.D., and while grubs up for James and Damian
05:50on land, that looks lovely, thank you so much, back on the ship, oh, wow, this is really nice.
06:04Whoa.
06:05Tamara and Jackie, well, they too are tucking into some brekkie, and also pondering the
06:10day ahead.
06:13We're doing Gibraltar today, so I think we need a hearty breakfast.
06:16Because you're going to go up the rocks and stuff.
06:18It's on a slope, remember, Gibraltar's on a slope.
06:21So the more you eat, the more you can burn off.
06:23Gibraltar is basically a big hilly place.
06:26So we thought that we'd get all the nutrients in, packing all the breakfast, so that we're ready
06:31and equipped for our adventure.
06:33I don't want to give too much away.
06:34I want to leave an element of surprise.
06:38And if you think skywalk, that should give you a little hint.
06:44More than a little hint, Jackie.
06:46What do you think that one is?
06:48Something with heights.
06:49Something with heights.
06:51Luckily, I'm good with heights.
06:53So I just want to know how your monkey and around skills are.
06:56Because, obviously, Gibraltar's most famous inhabitants are the monkeys.
07:01One, you don't feed them.
07:03Okay.
07:04Two, nothing that they can take away, because they're known for very light fingers.
07:09Oh.
07:10And I think three, we should be okay.
07:12I'm not afraid of monkeys.
07:14From what I've heard, the monkeys are very, very profound in the act of bribery and the
07:19art of bribery.
07:20They take something important to you, like sunglasses or lip balm, and they swap it for food.
07:27Don't wear your jewels today.
07:28Nothing.
07:29Don't wear your jewels today.
07:30Don't bring anything loose.
07:31While Tamara and Jackie talk tactics.
07:33Here's to an exciting day.
07:34Here's to an exciting day in gym.
07:37Yeah.
07:38Back on the marina, James and Damien are finishing up their breakfast.
07:41I think I need to finish my coffee.
07:43Yes.
07:44And then let's go and explore Gibraltar.
07:45Yes.
07:46So what have you got planned for today, lads?
07:48Start with the cable car.
07:50I really want to go in the cable car.
07:51Shall we do that first?
07:52Let's do that first.
07:53So get that out of the way.
07:54I'm a little bit...
07:55You're a bit nervous.
07:56A little bit apprehensive of it, but...
07:58Don't you worry.
07:59I'm just going to push you on.
08:00You're going to push me on it anyway, so...
08:01I really want to see some monkeys.
08:03You want to see the monkeys?
08:04I do want to see the monkeys.
08:05I'm more interested in the tunnels that are up there.
08:07Perfect.
08:08That sounds like a plan.
08:09Let's do it.
08:10Let's finish up.
08:11To the cable car.
08:12Having enjoyed a morning on the marina, the boys are ready to scale the dizzying heights
08:17of the Rock of Gibraltar.
08:22The rock's like a honeycomb.
08:24A visitor's playground bursting with attractions both inside and out.
08:28From hidden tunnels and caves to soaring cable cars.
08:33Formed from compressed shells of sea creatures some 200 million years ago, this magnificent
08:39limestone ridge was to the Romans, one of the two pillars of Hercules.
08:43It marked the very edge of the known world.
08:47Hello, Chester.
08:48Hello, Chester.
08:49Hello.
08:50But on the way to the cable cars, the boys are distracted by a fellow dog lover.
08:55You're so cute.
08:56Do you do kisses, Chester?
08:57Chester?
08:58Chester?
08:59Oh, he does.
09:00This is the first Cocker Spaniel we've seen on our trip, and I saw him a mile off.
09:05I was like, he's a Cocker Spaniel.
09:06Our relationship has kind of suffered a little bit over the years because we've sometimes
09:11like passing ships because of our really busy lives within the civil service.
09:15Yeah.
09:16And looking after the dogs and sometimes you might be going to a dog show and then I'm
09:20going to a dog show.
09:21It's nothing bad.
09:23It's just sometimes life ticks along.
09:25Damien's like, there's a Cocker coming.
09:27And a show type as well.
09:29Oh, he's so cute.
09:30Hello.
09:31Thank you so much for letting us see him.
09:34And I will tell him to look out from Chester.
09:35Yeah, you'll see him at the Cocker Spaniel Club, yes.
09:37So when we met Chester, it made us really think about how much we are missing the dogs,
09:41aren't we?
09:42Yeah, we are missing them.
09:43Yeah.
09:44Because even though we've been doing great things, I'd like to do them with them.
09:50Let's head to the cable car.
09:51Oh, lovely.
09:52Because I'm in tune to get up at the top of the rock.
09:54To journey to the very top, you can choose to drive or even hike.
09:58But the quickest and most scenic route is via the cable cars.
10:02And one where Damien must face his fears.
10:05You're a bit nervous.
10:06Yeah, I'm not sure about this cable car.
10:08Oh, look at it.
10:09It looks beautiful.
10:10I know it looks beautiful.
10:11It's not too high.
10:12But yeah, I'm not sure about this.
10:14I'd rather walk than get the cable car.
10:18And then I said, how far is it to walk?
10:20And they told us.
10:21And then I said, you're doing the cable car.
10:24Wise choice.
10:26The hike can take up to three hours, while the cable cars whisk you up in just six minutes.
10:31You got this, Damien.
10:33Deep breaths.
10:34Right.
10:35This is your last chance to change your mind.
10:37He he he.
10:40Today, our cruise ship is docked in Gibraltar at the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula.
10:58And our two sets of cruisers are enjoying the final day of their European journey.
11:03On a scale of one to ten, how excited are you?
11:06Eleven.
11:07Eleven, guys.
11:08Both our couples have planned a day exploring the iconic rock of Gibraltar.
11:14It's a hive of activity, offering attractions both on the surface and fascinating experiences deep inside.
11:21Welcome to Gibraltar.
11:22I know.
11:23Mum and daughter Jackie and Tamara are journeying up the rock by car with guide and driver Charlie.
11:31It's such a nice view.
11:32Meanwhile, couple James and Damien have chosen a more exciting ascent up the rock.
11:44And this is going to be an experience now.
11:45And this is going to be an experience now.
11:47You're getting a bit nervous now.
11:48Yeah, I am now.
11:49I can tell.
11:50Just smile even though you're hitting every minute.
11:54Smile even though I hate it.
11:55We're standing in the queue for the cable car and I could feel you were nervous, weren't you?
11:59I'm looking up thinking that thing is rocking.
12:02Damien's bravely going ahead with the six-minute cable car ride despite feeling nervous.
12:07Here we go.
12:09Are you ready?
12:10You're on.
12:11Too late to change your mind now.
12:13And they're off.
12:17Oh, my God.
12:20Just look at the top.
12:22Focus on the top.
12:23Now, this is something you would never have got me doing at home.
12:26Oh.
12:27And despite Damien's fears.
12:29Wow.
12:30This is amazing.
12:32Built in 1966, the cable car travels an exhilarating 412 metres above sea level all the way to the top of the rock.
12:41You know what?
12:42I like this.
12:43Being a bit nosy in people's gardens.
12:44I know.
12:45Wow.
12:46Oh, look.
12:47They've all got swimming pools.
12:48Imagine having a house up here.
12:50Look.
12:51Once the cable car started moving, I started to really enjoy it.
12:55Yeah.
12:56And I'm thinking, I'm glad you kind of pushed me, encouraged me to give me a little nudge to do it.
13:02It's absolutely stunning.
13:04This is a lot better than I thought it was going to be.
13:07This is amazing.
13:09This is amazing.
13:10I had the confidence to look down and enjoy the view of Gibraltar as we're travelling up because there's some views on that cable car that I could never have experienced if I hadn't gone on the cable car.
13:22There's lots to see on the way up, including some very furry cheeky little sights when they get to the top.
13:29Look at the marina.
13:31It makes you realise how small Gibraltar is.
13:33Honestly, I would never have done that.
13:35I never thought I'd do this.
13:36No, this is really good.
13:38This is another first.
13:39This is one of the highlights of our trip.
13:42Yeah.
13:43This is stunning.
13:44And it was the fastest way to get up the rock.
13:46It saved a nine kilometre walk around the park.
13:48It did.
13:49Also avoiding the nine kilometre walk are Jackie and Tamara.
13:53Their guide and driver Charlie has taken the girls to a more secluded viewpoint off the beaten track.
13:59Oh, that is a wicked view.
14:03Wow.
14:04This is a great view.
14:06What side is Africa?
14:07Yes.
14:08Is that side there?
14:09I think that side is Africa.
14:11We could be wrong.
14:12Charlie, is this side Africa?
14:14Charlie, our wonderful driver, suggested a visit to O'Hara's Battery.
14:19You said not many people knew about that.
14:22Yes.
14:23It was like a secret location.
14:24Atlantic Spain and Africa.
14:26And that big mountain in Gibraltar were known as the pillars of Achilles.
14:31Okay.
14:32In those days, the world was flat.
14:34This was a guideline for them to turn around and to go back because they thought they continued
14:39the end of the world.
14:41Because they used to see all that flat and they couldn't see further.
14:44I wouldn't go.
14:45It would get to the edge.
14:46I wouldn't go any further myself either.
14:49Yes.
14:50That's crazy.
14:51Breathtaking views abound on the outside of the rock.
14:55But on the inside, there's a labyrinth of wondrous tunnels and caves.
14:59And a short walk down from their stunning view, Jackie and Tamara have arrived at one of the
15:05rock's most famous natural wonders, St. Michael's Cave.
15:10It's an unassuming entryway, right?
15:12You look and you think it's going to be like every other cave you've been in.
15:16And then you get into the actual cave and you realise it's really cool.
15:21We're entering but it only gets deeper.
15:23We went from it being quite a hot day to being cool in the cave.
15:28Oh, wow.
15:35The legend of St. Michael's Cave centres on the belief that it was a bottomless cave,
15:44creating the myth of an underground passage connecting Gibraltar to Africa.
15:49Oh, wow.
15:51Just looking at that.
15:53Its name is said to be derived from a similar Italian cave where the Archangel Michael
15:57apparently appeared.
15:59They've got the lights set up.
16:02Very cool, very different experience.
16:04Deeper and deeper and deeper and deeper.
16:07Now's the time where I'm going to lose you.
16:10It is ill.
16:12The cave drips water, which was very interesting.
16:16I wasn't, it was like having a little rock shower.
16:19It was refreshing.
16:21It's like being inside of a pine cone.
16:23Yeah, but how did it come about?
16:25I don't know.
16:26Do you get what I mean?
16:27This is a lot of history.
16:29It certainly is, Tamara.
16:31Ancient cave art and Neolithic bones suggest prehistoric humans used the cave some 15 to
16:3920,000 years ago.
16:41During World War II, the entire cave was set up to be an emergency military hospital.
16:47I didn't think the cave would be as cool as it is, but I'm pleasantly surprised.
16:52What's mind blowing is it's natural.
16:54While the girls are enjoying the wonder of the caves.
17:00Oh, look, look.
17:01James and Damien are successfully at the top.
17:04And there are some furry inhabitants ready to give them a proper Gibraltar welcome.
17:09Oh, the monkeys.
17:10The monkeys?
17:11They've been fed so they don't come after my sandwich.
17:13Yeah, they're all right.
17:14I wouldn't be too sure about that, Damien.
17:16They're bigger than I thought.
17:18Around 225 of Gibraltar's favourite mammals, the Barbary macaque, live wild and free on
17:25the island.
17:26The endangered species are their number one tourist attraction.
17:30But you need your wits about you.
17:32I loved seeing the monkeys.
17:34I loved how cheeky they were.
17:36I loved the interaction with them.
17:38Are you coming with us?
17:40And that was our very first experience.
17:43So we'll get straight to the top.
17:45And this baby monkey literally jumped into the carriage.
17:49And I was like, oh.
17:50Do they need a ticket?
17:52There's just no whole bar.
17:54They just climb on top of people.
17:56And they know exactly where you store stuff.
17:59They're opening the zips.
18:00They're opening pockets.
18:02Now he's coming in.
18:03Watch your phone.
18:04Watch your...
18:05Mischief maker alert.
18:07Guard your goodies, guys.
18:09Just like that, we're here.
18:11That didn't even feel like six minutes.
18:12That's really quick.
18:13Look at that, though.
18:14There was no way at six minutes.
18:15Beautiful.
18:16Stunning.
18:17It's rocking now, though.
18:18It's really nice.
18:19Right, let's go and see the rock.
18:21Now, firmly on terra firma, James and Damien can take stock of the view from above.
18:27It's such a lovely view from here.
18:30On clear days, you can see two continents, Europe and Africa, from this spectacular viewpoint.
18:36Do you know what this balcony is called?
18:39It's called the Queen's Balcony.
18:41It's called the Queen's Balcony.
18:42Yes.
18:43Apparently, in 1954, Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh stood and looked out over Gibraltar
18:51during the visit to the rock.
18:53You've just read that off, that sign over there, and you just tried to tell me all about it.
18:58I was trying to make it sound like I knew a fact, and then I couldn't remember it, so I just wanted to read it.
19:04A for effort, though, James.
19:06Good try.
19:07While the boys make the most of the sunshine, deep inside the rock, Jackie and Tamara are exploring St. Michael's Cave.
19:17I have no clue which one's up or which one's down, but I do know there are stalactites and stalagmites in here.
19:26Let me help you out. Stalactites down, stalagmites up.
19:31It's so crazy walking around somewhere where all the formations have been around, formed thousands of years.
19:40It's one of the things where I was just thinking, long when I go, the rock formations will still be there.
19:45There are some impressive stalactite and stalagmite formations, and one which appears to have descended from above.
19:52They also have an angel in the cave, and it's like a pretty big deal, because they put the holographic art of the angel on the rock that is shaped like the angel.
20:02It's an angel in the rock. So it's an angel in St. Michael's Cave. I did not see that.
20:07You weren't paying attention to your surroundings.
20:09I was.
20:10Yeah, there's definitely an angel. I didn't anticipate the cave being this big from the outside.
20:15The cathedral cave is a huge natural auditorium, able to seat 700 people.
20:21And now the backdrop to an amazing light and sound show.
20:27I think it just gives them another dimension.
20:30Concerts, recitals, theatre plays and events are held here due to its excellent acoustics.
20:36The drips make it more real.
20:39The audience do need to bring their own poncho, though.
20:42It was a really cool experience, genuinely. I didn't assume when we went in there, there'd be so much to see inside the cave.
20:51But it's definitely a highlight of Gibraltar, I would say.
20:55The caves were a good place to take photos, lots of photos. You could take photos in so many different places and areas.
21:02The weight of the cave is taking me down. I have to be strong.
21:07Why do we get on so well? We just do.
21:11I think my mum just knows how weird I am. Like, she just gets me. She accepts me.
21:20The weight of the cave.
21:22My mum's very funny. She's very silly with me. We have a laugh and a joke. Nothing's ever too serious.
21:29Oh, thank you.
21:30But yeah, she's the perfect mum. She really is the perfect mum.
21:33I'll get you right in the centre.
21:36I'm coming.
21:37You're gonna be tiny, okay?
21:39Yeah, that's fine.
21:41I think it's important to spend as much time with my mum as possible.
21:45I think so, like, I have memories, you have memories.
21:49Can you see?
21:51The magic of the cave.
22:00So I think it's important to, like, make memories of you.
22:03I think that was a really nice experience.
22:05Excellent, excellent experience.
22:07Oh, come back.
22:08The caves are...
22:10Oh, what would you say?
22:11I think they're a little bit magical.
22:13Yeah.
22:14I think it's a really nice day out.
22:16Come along, love.
22:17I thought the cave would be a great place to host a rave.
22:23Oh, look.
22:24HM Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh.
22:27Duke of Edinburgh visited these caves during their visit to Gibraltar.
22:301954.
22:31They got around on that holiday, didn't they?
22:35Back out in the fresh air, James and Damien take time to reflect on their final day.
22:40I didn't realise how busy Gibraltar was going to be with all these ships.
22:44This is the last port. How are you feeling?
22:47A bit upset the holiday's coming to an end.
22:50Yeah.
22:51But I'm also excited to get back and see the dogs.
22:53It'll be nice to get back to see the dogs, but we've still got some time.
22:56So shall we go and make the most of our last port day?
22:59Yeah.
23:00And have a bit more look around Gibraltar.
23:02Let's go and explore some more.
23:03Come on then.
23:04Today, our ship is docked and anchored at the port of Gibraltar.
23:12Our travellers are enjoying exploring the famous nature reserve called The Rock for the final day of the trip.
23:31Oh, it's a trudge.
23:33Yep.
23:34Getting my steps in.
23:35Earlier, Jackie and Tamara explored caves hidden inside the rock.
23:40Oh, wow.
23:43Oh, wow.
23:44And now the sky's the limit as the girls are now walking to its very top.
23:52And after a reluctant but successful cable ride to the summit.
23:56Just amazing.
23:58James and Damien have fended off losing their belongings to naughty, nimble fingered monkeys.
24:03Oh, it's coming in.
24:04Watch your phone.
24:05Watch your...
24:06And have now gone inside the rock to visit an extensive network of World War II tunnels.
24:14Let's go.
24:15Oh, what's the espionage room?
24:17Oh, there.
24:18There's an evacuation room, number four.
24:20Yeah, that's good.
24:21I think the one I'm really looking forward to is the Spitfire Hall.
24:24I think we're just going to follow the arrows.
24:26Shall we head in?
24:27Let's head in.
24:28These impressive tunnels offer a unique insight into the island's wartime past.
24:35With World War II on the horizon, British and Canadian army engineers added a staggering 34
24:41miles of extra tunnels, turning the rock into a huge internal fortress.
24:47We decided to have a look at the World War II tunnels.
24:51Yeah.
24:52Because that's something that's more my kind of thing.
24:54Yes.
24:55So we've had quite a balanced trip where we've done some things that you've enjoyed.
24:58Yeah.
24:59And we thought we'd do something that I enjoy this time.
25:01He loves all the history.
25:02He watches all the documentaries.
25:04Look, that's amazing.
25:06There's a Spitfire hanging from the ceiling.
25:08Is that a real one?
25:09That looks like a real Spitfire.
25:11Really?
25:12Actually, boys, it's a life-size replica.
25:15It's one of the most famous military aircraft that we've ever built.
25:18Shall we go and have a look?
25:20Let's go and have a look.
25:21This impressive interior city now houses many wartime artefacts from Gibraltar's military history.
25:31I am absolutely fanatical about aircraft.
25:34Normally, commercial aircraft and civil aircraft, but the Spitfire has got a real kind of place in my heart.
25:44Oh, he was in his element.
25:45Because of how important she was.
25:46I expected it to be a bit bigger.
25:49Single pilot.
25:50Yeah.
25:51Really agile.
25:53Very difficult to fly.
25:54How would I serve tea and coffee on that?
25:57We've flown on planes before.
25:58We used to be cabin crew.
25:59Yeah.
26:00But nothing on, like, a Spitfire.
26:02It was so small.
26:03Obviously, just being a one-seater.
26:04Yeah, it is.
26:05It's a shame I can't go up in a Spitfire.
26:07Yeah.
26:08How the pilot got his tea and coffee, I have no idea.
26:12Most of the tunnel complex remains off-limits, but portions like these are open to the public as part of the Gibraltar Museum.
26:19We take so much for granted nowadays.
26:22And these things were built really, really quickly.
26:24Oh.
26:25I would love to fly in one of these, but I know from watching documentaries how difficult they are to fly.
26:32At home, he's got hundreds and hundreds of model aircraft.
26:35Not really meant much military, but I think when we get home, he'll be ordering a Spitfire.
26:39Spitfire.
26:41It's a beautiful airplane.
26:43He couldn't get me out of the Spitfire hole.
26:45I thought we were going to be there all day.
26:47While James and Damien head deeper into the wartime tunnels, on the outside, leaving driver Charlie behind,
26:54the girls are now on foot and making their way higher and higher up to the summit of the rock.
27:00Oh.
27:01It's a steep walk.
27:02I know, but Charlie said it's worth it.
27:04So, goodness.
27:05Like, look at the view.
27:07Yep, that's a sight from a height, but wait till you get to the top girls.
27:12Before we go to Skywalk, I bought you a little gift from the gift shop.
27:16Oh, what's this?
27:17It's just a little small present for you to remember jib, right?
27:20Actually, it's my room.
27:21It does.
27:22It's a monkey.
27:23It is.
27:24It says, I love jib.
27:25Mum got her own very little special monkey from St. Michael's gift shop.
27:31A pink fluffy monkey that she will forever treasure.
27:35Why pink?
27:36Mum loves pink.
27:37It's her favourite colour.
27:38So, she got a lovely little souvenir to take home.
27:42You're welcome.
27:43Oh, wow.
27:44You couldn't clip it.
27:45I didn't think you could.
27:47Where are you going to clip it?
27:48You could just have it cuddling you there.
27:50There.
27:51Like me.
27:52Be attached to you forever.
27:53Just hold that.
27:54But just be careful of the monkeys.
27:55Yeah.
27:56In case they want to steal it.
27:57But it says, I love Gibraltar on it.
27:58Because she's a pretty pink one.
28:00Who needs a stuffed monkey when there's the genuine article further up the hill?
28:05It's a little monkey.
28:08Gibraltar is really famous for these guys.
28:11Oh.
28:12Like, he looks a little bit friendly.
28:14Docile.
28:15A little bit.
28:16A little bit docile, okay?
28:17We're not going to get too close.
28:19Probably wise, Tamara.
28:20They're a big attraction point, okay?
28:22But gentle, gentle.
28:25Along the way, we encountered some monkey friends.
28:28I mean, we thought they stayed up on the rock.
28:31No.
28:32But no, they came down to greet us for a special visit.
28:35There were so many of them.
28:37I wouldn't say I'm afraid of the monkeys, but we were warned that the monkeys are very light-fingered.
28:41Yes.
28:42Experts in extortion, these pesky primates are known to steal tourists' makeup, sunglasses,
28:49and phones to trade for food.
28:51They'll be nicking cars next.
28:53I'm taking the rail.
28:56Yeah, you take the rail.
28:57Woo!
28:58After an epic climb, the girls have finally reached the Skywalk, a viewing platform at
29:04the top of the rock.
29:06Did you look down?
29:07I am looking down.
29:08Ah!
29:09The glass-floored walkway stands at 340 metres directly above sea level.
29:17That's taller than the Shard in London, and offers breathtaking panoramic views.
29:24How epic is this view, Tamara?
29:25It is very epic, to be fair.
29:28This might be one of the best views we've seen.
29:31Gibraltar is about the big views.
29:33I think you have to appreciate Gibraltar from up high.
29:37Yeah.
29:38For me, to see all of Gibraltar, you have to go up to the rock and the view is spectacular.
29:44Yes.
29:45A feat of engineering, nearly seven metres of glass, jumps out from the rock and extends
29:51over the cliff edge.
29:52Oh, wow.
29:53Down here's impressive as well.
29:56Standing on the glass, you could actually look down.
30:00So, you had the illusion that you were standing on the mountain?
30:03Yes.
30:04Oh, my gosh.
30:05Do you want to switch?
30:06Yeah.
30:07Probably.
30:08Yeah, you're going forward.
30:09Wow.
30:10It's actually so weird because you literally just feel like you're on the edge of a cliff.
30:14You're underneath nothing, and that's Shaki's spot where she really enjoyed being.
30:18I enjoyed it.
30:19I actually felt like I was floating.
30:22Gosh.
30:23Am I safe?
30:25You are safe.
30:26You're safe.
30:27Don't worry.
30:28Safer than glass houses, I'm sure, ladies.
30:31I think I'm too sure.
30:33You are too sure.
30:35Very nice.
30:36You look good.
30:37Stay.
30:38Should I stay here?
30:39A little shot of you in the sun.
30:44Back inside the World War II tunnels, military enthusiasts James and Damien are in the strategy
30:50room.
30:51These are probably the types of telephone that would have been in the war offices.
30:55They're doing a live broadcast.
30:57Within the tunnels, there's not only an underground telephone exchange.
31:02It's telling us that Gibraltar and Iraq was the key to success for us in defending the
31:09UK.
31:10But it also housed a military hospital and barracks for up to 16,000 soldiers.
31:15It makes you appreciate what our ancestors have went through.
31:20I started feeling a bit emotional.
31:23Yeah.
31:24And I thought to myself, oh, I'm actually going to experience something here that I wasn't
31:29quite expecting.
31:30Oh, it just makes you feel…
31:31That's a really sad picture when you see how young these soldiers were.
31:37I think how many of them didn't come back.
31:40Fighting for a country.
31:42I don't think you've realised how much history and how much…
31:45No.
31:46No.
31:47I didn't.
31:48I understood that Gibraltar played a part in the war.
31:51I just didn't…
31:52I didn't appreciate to what extent…
31:55And how…
31:56It's a strategic point.
31:57Yeah, very strategic.
31:58On the Atlantic.
31:59Enemy's uniforms.
32:00Oh, it's enemy uniforms.
32:01Yeah.
32:02So, it's teaching the soldiers what enemy uniforms look like.
32:06Yeah.
32:07Should we have a walk around?
32:08Let's carry on, I think.
32:09This is getting deeper into the tunnels.
32:12The people that were involved in the Second World War lived, sleeped…
32:15Yeah.
32:16…and did everything in these tunnels.
32:17No.
32:18I can't imagine how the horrendous them conditions would have been.
32:21Oh.
32:22They couldn't leave.
32:23Because if they'd left, people would know that we were using it for something.
32:26So, it was all kept massively a secret.
32:29Massively a secret.
32:31So, do you want to find out what your…
32:34Your spy names.
32:35…secret spy identity will be done?
32:37Shall I go first?
32:38You go first.
32:39We came across the espionage room, didn't we?
32:41We did, yeah.
32:44There was a bit that was interactive, wasn't there?
32:45Yes.
32:46And we had a bit of fun.
32:47Yeah, we had a bit of fun choosing spy names for each other.
32:49Yeah.
32:51Oh-hara.
32:52Oh-hara.
32:53Oh-hara.
32:54I am Candy Toft.
32:59Candy Toft.
33:00Candy Toft.
33:01Candy Toft.
33:02Candy Toft.
33:03Trust you to get the sweet name.
33:04Yeah, Candy Toft.
33:05I think the whole time in the tunnels…
33:07Yeah.
33:08…we just found really, really interesting.
33:09And the name of her next dog will be…
33:13I think I'm more grateful for the sacrifice that these people have made.
33:17Yeah.
33:18Because if it wasn't for them…
33:19No.
33:20…I wouldn't be enjoying my time on a cruise ship.
33:21No.
33:22It was just…
33:23It was very heartwarming, wasn't it?
33:26And at the end of the tunnels, the boys tumble out to another viewpoint.
33:33Oh, wow.
33:34So…
33:35This is stunning.
33:36So what you thought about Gibraltar then?
33:38Erm, I've really enjoyed Gibraltar.
33:40Yeah, me too.
33:41This cruise has always been about firsts.
33:43Yes.
33:44And the cable car were you.
33:45Even though I didn't want to go on it at first, I'm so glad I did.
33:49And this…
33:50This isn't normally my thing, coming and seeing this history stuff.
33:54But I actually really enjoyed myself.
33:56So we've both surprised each other.
33:57We have.
33:58We've both surprised each other.
33:59Doing something that we wouldn't normally do.
34:01It'd be nice.
34:02But I tell you what, I really want to go and see some more monkeys before we go.
34:06Shall we see more monkeys?
34:08I've got good news for you, James.
34:10I think there's one working in the gift shop.
34:12I'll take your jewelry.
34:13I'll take your jewelry.
34:14I bet you steal some of the shop all the time.
34:17As James and Damien get to know the new shop assistant…
34:21Oh, there's a monkey.
34:24Back at the Skywalk, Tamara is getting fully acquainted with one.
34:30So, erm, I'm with my friend chilling.
34:33We're together.
34:35I think it's docile if you want to sit and I'll take a picture.
34:44No, no.
34:45But he's just professional.
34:46It's docile.
34:47Check the pose.
34:48The monkeys didn't bother me.
34:52I very bravely took a seat next to our primate friend.
34:56Mum was a bit more reserved.
34:57She said, no, thank you.
34:59It's their rock.
35:00They usually just want to have a nose around.
35:02I think they're used to taking pictures.
35:04They're pros at it.
35:05Monkey see, monkey do.
35:07Quite literally.
35:11Yes.
35:15You're such a kid.
35:16This is the perfect viewpoint.
35:17And I enjoyed my little monkey action as well, you know.
35:20To be fair, I think you should go back and get a little candid.
35:23Nah, I don't want any pictures.
35:25No monkeying around.
35:26No monkeying around.
35:27Not today.
35:28Fair plays.
35:29No monkeying around and no dilly-dallying either.
35:32You two have a ship to catch and it's a long walk down.
35:37We came we saw we monkeyed.
35:39Today our cruise line is docked in the port of Gibraltar.
36:00docked in the port of gibraltar and it's been a day of up down inside and out just like that
36:07we're here monkeying around all on the famous rock now he's coming in what's your phone what's your
36:13with our travelers mom and daughter jackie and tamara oh my goodness like look at the view
36:22and couple james and damien that looks like a real spitfire really as daylight fades and the ship
36:30awakens to the buzz of the night thank you oh thank you so much thank you both our pairs are
36:36ready for their last evening on board the ship jackie and tamara are heading to deck 12 for dinner
36:47and have pulled out all the stops for their last night in the sea and grass restaurant
36:51looking wonderful ladies good evening ladies good evening after a very long but beautiful day in
36:59gibraltar we decided to celebrate our final day on the cruise by going to a very special dinner
37:07this evening we're going to give you a gastronomic experience and you're going to feel the richness of
37:12the earth to the bounty of the sea so have a lovely evening with us and bon appetit thank you i thought
37:19it was more of like a seven course amuse bouche style grazing dinner it turned out to be
37:27seven very full courses i thought it was like a seven course taster menu yes that was not what it was
37:34it was just seven courses it was seven courses never mind the sparkles you might need your comfies on for
37:40this evening ladies thank you thank you after spending a few days at sea with each other it makes
37:47me realize how special our relationship is not once did i contemplate throwing you overboard i may have
37:54joked about it do you know how they did that i imagine they have a smoker in the kitchen but i'm sure
38:03it will work the same with some tissue and a lit fire although i'm a classy lady i don't think um
38:11i could eat like this every single day maybe every weekend maybe once a month for you okay let's set
38:18your expectations let's make them realistic you've been the perfect travel companion and i would take
38:24you on another cruise again or vice versa thanks honey maybe i have to take you on the next you've heard

39:01hoping for one last sunset before our cruisers head home it's been amazing to i know travel the world
39:13so the end of our trip we stood at the back of the ship and we had a nice glass of fizz and we just
39:22watched the sunset nice way to end our holiday there's been a lot of highs on this ship
39:28a lot of firsts there's been a lot of firsts yes we've we've explored lisbon and gibraltar where
39:34we've never been before it was a really nice way to just the two of us without anyone around us and
39:39just kind of a very quiet peaceful moment to reflect on yeah what we've done on this holiday met some
39:46really nice people oh lovely people the people on board have just made it they're very very competitive
39:51just like you they are competitive i think that's why i fitted in well
39:57but it's been great it's been great it's been nice just to get away and reconnect we hadn't been away
40:03for eight years and it was all about getting away and relaxing and reconnecting and i felt in that
40:10moment that we'd achieved it we did so one thing i've learned while being away on the cruise is that our
40:14lives are so hectic and so stressful i know we've been doing too much and we do we do a lot for other
40:20people yeah and not enough for ourselves no we need to have a little bit more self-care yeah definitely
40:26so we can do something another cruise i think it does our first time cruisers are now clearly cruise
40:34converts i'm really looking forward to going home and seeing the dogs yeah me too
40:40um and uh do you think they'll have missed us i think so or do you think they'll be like go on
40:45another cruise so at the start i was a bit apprehensive about leaving the docks but as the
40:53trip went on i missed them but i was used to them not being there but now i'm really missing them yeah yeah
41:01so but i do think we need to find a cruise ship where we can take our dogs with us
41:05so here's to many more cruises to many more cruises as the lovebirds savour the sparkles
41:15back at the seven course banquet there's still more courses to come
41:21is this not number six it's food versus jackie and tamara and foods winning
41:28i think i started to feel a bit like very very good but this was a great meal but i'm starting to feel
41:35a little bit i'm starting to feel the seams yeah you have to roll me out i did try to tell you
41:46it's been a really great journey being cruising for the first time with you together
41:53making more fantastic memories that we'll look back on and smile at i wouldn't have wanted to do
41:58my first cruise of anyone else but you from from the womb to the tomb honey from the womb to the tomb
42:07i could not eat another bite couldn't eat a macaron which is why i'm taking these to go with me because
42:13i don't think my dress could handle any more any more food for a bit no full death by food death by food
42:21and after a day of snapping themselves it's only right the girls got one last picky for the album
42:26the sun has set on the last day of the cruise for our two lucky groups of travelers
42:38let's see what our guests thought of today
42:40we had a fantastic time this takes me back to my cabin crew days and the exits are here here here
42:56and there i'd say it had an amazing time i got over actually everything i wanted to she's been a great
43:02sport i've enjoyed every moment with me mom two three cha cha cha two three look debian here's
43:10claire hello i wanted to de-stress
43:15i'm just trying to smile i wanted to try new experiences and just spend time with you really
43:21so we're going to meet the captain how do i look do i look all right
43:23i will look back on it with the fondest of memories our time on the ship you made the best team win
43:36yes the best team don't you worry we will hum what a week it's been so what are the scores for their
43:43final destination gibraltar the monkeys the scenery charlie yep st michael's cave yeah i think gibraltar
43:54as a whole has been probably the highlight of the trip but for me anyway and the illusion bridge has
44:00been fantastic and i think therefore we're going to give it five suns five suns all around all around
44:09exactly five wonderful suns and the monkey the monkey can get an extra one sun from me
44:16with a solo primate looks like gibraltar's been an absolute hit
44:39so
