00:00Whether you're an experienced cruiser, a first-time seafarer, or keen to make a splash, there's
00:16one thing we Brits are all on board with. We love cruising. British demand for cruises
00:26is higher than ever. This is our first cruise together. What a spot. Hoping we're still
00:30speaking at the end of the holiday. There's romantic locations. And this is just beautiful.
00:37Breathtaking views. Bellissimo. Exciting activities. I'm with my friend chilling. And
00:44treats and tipples galore. Cheers. That's gorgeous. With surprises. Is acidic? Yeah. And new adventures
00:54around every corner. It's odds on. Oh, wow. We saw the dolphins. It was amazing. Our
01:01fun-loving Brits at sea will love the cruise.
01:11Sailing today on the high seas, Ambience annually visits 29 countries, 91 ports, and sails 70,000
01:19miles. With 14 decks and just under 800 cabins to accommodate 1,400 guests. And joining the
01:32ship this week is long-time lovebirds and first-time cruisers, Clive and Bernie.
01:37Hi, I'm Bernie. And I'm Clive. And it's my pleasure to be married to this beautiful woman.
01:44Big day. Packing. I hate packing, dear. You don't pack. I know. That's why I hate it. Because
01:53you pack everything you want and you don't pack everything I want. I've given you a bigger
02:00case. That's my case. And the rest are yours. Is that right? Of course. This is our first time
02:07on a cruise. And we are really excited. We don't know what to expect. Isn't that right,
02:13Bernie? Oh, I'm very excited. Very excited. Looking
02:17forward to it. How do you pack? I roll. You roll. Why do we roll? Because it doesn't
02:22quiz that I can get more in. My motto to packing is you have to have something for every occasion.
02:31No matter what the weather is, you've always got something to wear. Quite right, Bernie.
02:37Give us a smile. Smile? It's not smiling when it comes to packing. It's stressful.
02:44Hopefully a cruise should help with that, Bernie.
02:46Well, we've been married 49 years. We've had a really, really lovely time being married.
02:52Really blissful. It's us. And would you believe our 49th wedding anniversary is actually coming
02:58up whilst we're on the ship. So we're really looking forward to it, aren't we?
03:02We are. Very excited. Yeah, very excited.
03:04Crikey. Good luck carrying all those cases, Clive.
03:09Bit heavy, that love.
03:10Well, you'll have to pay for extra night.
03:12Bernie, it's okay. It's not like flying. There's no restriction on weight with this ship.
03:17You can even pack and roll a few more T-shirts if you want.
03:21And next to join the adventure is Glaswegian best friends, Anne and Yvonne.
03:28Hi, I'm Anne.
03:29And I'm Yvonne.
03:30And we know each other from working with each other from about 11 years ago.
03:34Yeah, we met at work 11 years ago. I met Anne at the photocopier.
03:39Ah, friends at first sheet.
03:40She had just started and she was asking me how to work the photocopier. The wrong person
03:44to ask. But never mind. Kind of hit it off.
03:48I like holiday move on, especially because Yvonne loves glamorous things. I'm quite a bit
03:54of a tomboy, I would say, probably. Well, a tomboy maybe now, because I'm that old.
03:57Cheers, Yvonne.
03:58Cheers.
03:59We're on our holidays.
04:00We do like to eat and drink wherever we go as well and try new things. And I'm happy
04:05to have anything given a go.
04:07Even dancing, she does.
04:08Even dancing?
04:09You know, she'll go up and have a dance, a boogie.
04:13Cheers.
04:13Cheers, Yvonne.
04:14Nice drink, nice drink.
04:20This week, the cruise ship has arrived in the historic city of Cagliari, where our guests
04:25are joining.
04:26And they'll be making their way to some truly enchanting destinations, from the stunning
04:34shores of Sicily, to the postcard-perfect Greek haven of Argos Toli.
04:40And to crown off their time on board, our fun-loving Brit cruisers will disembark in the vibrant
04:46city of Corfu.
04:50You will find the holidaymakers doing a host of activities on...
04:54It's all about glitz, glamour, and romance.
04:59And off the ship.
05:00Oh, that's lovely.
05:02I can't believe I made that.
05:04Excellent.
05:06Look at that.
05:07I made that.
05:08But what will our guests make of it all?
05:12Well, a very good morning, ambience. I hope you're having a lovely morning so far.
05:18Oh my God, Yvonne, look at this.
05:20Oh, amazing.
05:22Fabulous.
05:22Yvonne and I have only been away once before. We went to Prague for a winter weekend to get
05:27some Christmas shopping at the Christmas markets. And this is our first cruise together.
05:31Although we've had one each, this will be the first time together. Maybe not the last.
05:34Yeah.
05:34Yeah.
05:35Right, let's see where we're going over here. First stop, the lounge.
05:39The lounge.
05:40Yeah, oh, look at that.
05:41I'm looking forward to going on this cruise. I'm hoping we're still speaking at the end
05:45of the holiday. I'm very excited.
05:48Yeah, I'm excited. I would say that, definitely. So yeah, I'm really looking forward to it.
05:52Look, there's only a couple of floors up there and look, I love that.
05:56That's good.
05:56Up there.
05:58Keanu here.
05:58Keanu.
05:59Entertainment.
06:00The ship is just a lovely size for me. Nice and compact, easy to find your way around
06:05because when you get in my age, you start to lose your way. So I'm not going to get lost
06:08on here.
06:09Shops, plenty of shopping.
06:10A half a year.
06:10Can't wait to get into the room next and get started. Oh, my God.
06:20This week's cruise is starting in the capital city of Sardinia, Cagliari, known for its mile-long
06:27golden beaches and its historical centre. But before exploring what Cagliari has to offer,
06:34first-time cruisers Clive and Bernie are excited to board.
06:37107.
06:38Oh, gosh.
06:39So they're heading straight to their cabin.
06:43Nothing could have prepared us for what we saw when that door opened.
06:48Well, I'll let you go in first.
06:52Oh, my goodness me.
06:56Look at this.
06:58As it's Clive and Bernie's anniversary, they've opted for a premium suite that comes with a
07:03balcony.
07:05I think Bernie is speechless.
07:07I think the whole thing was so different to what she'd been led to believe that a cabin
07:19might look like.
07:20Very emotional going into somewhere like that. I just weren't expecting it.
07:25Oh, it wasn't.
07:26I weren't. No, no, I weren't.
07:28Oh, look at the strawberries.
07:32Oh, I just felt like royalty. I was just missing the crown. But it was wonderful.
07:37All smiles for Clive and Bernie. But let's see how Anne and Yvonne are settling into life
07:43on board.
07:44Oh, well done, well done. Pretty well by the looks of things. When we arrived, the room
07:52was fantastic.
07:53Oh, it was beautiful. It was beautiful. It's after one o'clock or something.
07:57Champagne time somewhere. Yeah. Also the champagne and the chocolates. A lovely surprise. Yeah,
08:02that was nice.
08:03Tilt the glass on. 45 degrees. As if we know what it's going to be. Straighten up. Straighten
08:09up. Straighten up. Straighten up. Straighten up. Oh, oh. The bar made coming out. Oh, yeah.
08:12Oh, yeah. Well done, you. Look at that. It's very important that I have enough space to hang
08:19my clothes up. I always take coat hangers with me. Obviously, Yvonne brought enough to last
08:24her probably a month. So she needed that extra hanging room. Cheers. Here's to a good holiday.
08:30Yeah. Yeah. Cheers. My God. Missing everybody at home already. No. No. No. No. A bit
08:37time. Oh, dear. Wow. Meanwhile, Clive and Bernie are also getting stuck into their bubbles.
08:48I'll have just a little. Cheers. Cheers.
08:53Cheers. It was a nice start to our anniversary week. It was a nice start to our anniversary
09:03week. I agree. Yeah. Chocolate kiss. I think we'll leave you two lovebirds to it.
09:08The ship is docked in the capital of Sardinia, Cagliari, where the fun begins for our two lots
09:28of holidaymakers. And the trip has got off to a good start for our first timers, Clive
09:33and Bernie. Here we are. And they have an important decision to make. You will always
09:39choose the bathroom aside, don't you? I do, yeah. You light the window. Well, thank you.
09:43I really. God, what a lovely day. Anne and Yvonne have already left the ship and have gone
09:53off to explore what the city has to offer. Look at that blue and white. That's lovely.
09:58That is lovely. Cagliari is built on seven hills. It holds the charm of a thousand year history,
10:05has one of the longest beaches in Sardinia, Poeto Beach, at a stretch of over five miles.
10:11It has beautiful architecture and scrumptious cuisine.
10:14And at the heart of any Mediterranean metropolis is its market, which is exactly where Anne and Yvonne
10:24are heading. It's great, Anne, to be back in Italy.
10:26Are you looking forward to it? Where has it been?
10:28Well, 1987. Oh my goodness.
10:31I was in Cattolica and that's the only time I've been in Italy. So it's good to be back. I've only been
10:37in Italy once. And again, it was a beach holiday. I'm thoroughly enjoying being in Sardinia. It's
10:44a lovely place and the weather's glorious. So it was nice to see a bit of the Italian culture.
10:54And hoping to give the ladies an authentic Sardinian tasting experience is local tour guide,
11:00Christina. Hi. Ciao. Nice to meet you. Ciao. Ciao.
11:07First stop in the market is the fish counters.
11:12I love a market, but I don't like the smell of fish at all or the look of fish and the eyes looking
11:19up at you. It just, it's not for me. I know Anne thoroughly enjoys all types of fish.
11:27Yeah. Yeah. Well, this is perfect for you, Anne, but maybe you should look away, Yvonne.
11:34You can see a lot of stands in generally with mussels and clams, for example.
11:40Right. Fish is not my thing.
11:43Because it's very common for us to eat alone, like a starter, or with your pasta.
11:51Oh, really? Spaghetti with mussels and clams.
11:54And much as I don't necessarily like the smell of fish as strong as that in a market,
12:01because there was a lot of fish stalls, I like the freshness of everything. I don't think we get
12:05a lot of that at home. And it felt really homegrown and caught that morning on the fishing line.
12:10But it was lovely to see it all there. It was just so fresh and everybody was so friendly.
12:14Yeah, all the... To speak to them and they were lovely. Everybody was really nice.
12:19In Cagliari, we have a long, long and beautiful beach, Colette Poetto beach.
12:24Oh, right. So you can eat spaghetti with mussels and clams,
12:29a glass of white wine. It's summer.
12:32I like sitting on the beach with a glass of wine, maybe a bit of cheese.
12:38I would leave the fish behind. Thank you very much.
12:42Now we taste something.
12:43Not quite at the cheese aisle yet, Yvonne. It's onto a Sardinian delicacy.
12:48So our eggs are from mullet fish. So are salted, dried and in the open air. So it's a specialty in Sardinia.
13:03It's a little bit chewy and very intense. It's not salty. Do you like?
13:09Yeah, it's almost cheesy. Cheesy fish, Yvonne. No, it's okay.
13:11Anne's really... She experiments with food. I'm a bit shy when it comes to food.
13:19I think Anne would try anything. I'm perhaps a bit boring, sick to the vegetables, the cheese,
13:27and of course the wine. You can taste the botarga of tuna with some dry figs.
13:33Oh, oh, I love figs. Oh, I love figs. Ah, okay.
13:36Oh, grazie mille. It's a good combination.
13:40Mm-hmm. And whilst Anne tucks into some dried tuna eggs and figs.
13:44Oh, wow. Look at this.
13:48Clive and Bernie have torn themselves away from the ship for an adventure on land
13:52in a teeny tiny car with local tour guide Bruno.
13:56That's good. Short legs.
14:00Well, here we go, Bruno. Yeah, you go. Here we go.
14:03Bruno. Brum.
14:07When we saw the car, we went, oh, wow.
14:11And then when Bruno came along, wow, what a guy. Yeah. A brilliant.
14:15Complimented each other perfectly.
14:18Never mind Lamborghinis, Ferraris. Wow.
14:21We have the Fiat Cinquecento.
14:25Cinquecento.
14:27It was a great way to see the area. Yeah.
14:31I mean, you can rent a car, but one of you's got to drive. So if somebody else is driving
14:35and because the car was open topped, you could see not only what was around you,
14:41but what was above you as well. Oh.
14:43Okay, now start the power tool. Yeah.
14:46Yeah. What is Cagliari famous for?
14:49The historical center. Uh-huh. Okay.
14:53So Cagliari was built by Spanish people. Okay.
14:57Aragones, okay. Uh, Catalan people. Right.
15:00Build Cagliari.
15:02And they would drive past somebody and when we were stopped anyway,
15:05they would, they would get the camera phones out and, and take pictures.
15:08So we would wait. So we, yeah, it was. I said, it's not us actually.
15:12But it was, it was amazing. Yeah, it was.
15:15It was. Yeah. Absolutely super. Yeah.
15:20Guided tour in full swing. Bruno has a language lesson for Clive and Bernie.
15:25I speak two language. Uh-huh. Italian. Italiano. Uh-huh.
15:30Okay. And my dialect, it's sardo. Right.
15:35Sardo. Sardo. Sardo. Sardinian language. Really?
15:39It's different, uh, from Italian. Okay. Yeah.
15:44But it's similar to Spanish. Uh-huh.
15:48I made an example. In English, uh, table. Yeah.
15:54In Italiano, tavolo. Yeah.
15:57Yeah. In Spanish, mesa. Meza. Meza. In sardo, mesa. Right. Okay. Yeah.
16:05Yeah. Yeah. It's so similar. They have their similarities. Yes. It's so similar.
16:09Bruno also tried to give us a little, uh, language lesson, didn't he? And, and, and Sardinian has its own language.
16:16So in English was table. In, um, Italian is tablo. And in Sardinian is mesa.
16:24It's tavolo. But close enough, Clive.
16:27My first Italian and my first Sardinian words. So I've never been any good at languages, but I shall always remember that.
16:35How you doing? I just think we're in the Italian jar.
16:39Well, don't go blowing off any doors now.
16:44Back at the market, Anne and Yvonne have moved on to sweeter things in the cake section.
16:48All right. Okay.
16:49Sorry, cotta. It's very lovely.
16:51Better than the fish.
16:52Oh, that is good to hear. The cakes were gorgeous. They were lovely.
16:57Yes, I think. Yeah. Christina treated us. She bought them.
16:59She bought the cakes. Yes. The cakes were really nice, yeah.
17:04Yvonne, now a happy camper. It's on to the fruit stalls.
17:07I show you this. I don't know if you know.
17:10Buongiorno. Buongiorno.
17:11Buongiorno.
17:12I call it the nest pollen. Right.
17:14So it's a fruit you have just in May. Oh.
17:17And normally people don't know. Never heard of it.
17:19So inside you have a big seeds. It's very sweet.
17:24You just eat it like that? Yeah, yeah. Uh-huh.
17:26Uh-huh.
17:26But attention, because you have the seeds, the big seeds. Right.
17:31At the market, we're given some fruit that we'd never heard of. It might have been a type of apricot.
17:35And my god, it was so sour.
17:41It's acidic. Yeah.
17:43Okay. Normally it's sweet.
17:45Not for you, Anne.
17:47It was like one of those old sour sweeties you used to eat.
17:50And it just hit somewhere in my mouth. I would not be doing that again.
17:53But give me the fish, the cheese, the biscuits, other stuff.
17:56Just not that particularly sour fruit. I wouldn't have that again.
18:00I did like it. The tastes are different, obviously. But I did enjoy it.
18:05Yeah.
18:06It's funny. Sorry.
18:07It's all right. No, no, no. I just took them by surprise.
18:10I like that.
18:12I like that.
18:13Oh, no.
18:13Actually, you like our buns, don't you?
18:15Like both?
18:15I know.
18:17It's sweet.
18:17She likes the sour.
18:18She likes the sour.
18:19It's too sour.
18:20Yeah, I like it.
18:20Yeah, okay.
18:21I like a nectarine and a peach. I do like them as a stoned fruit.
18:24Yeah. I like nectarines as well.
18:28Apricots. I like apricots as well.
18:30Yeah, yeah.
18:30Then a bit, two bits of fruit and a plum. Do you like a plum?
18:33Yeah.
18:33Yeah.
18:35There's not many fruits I don't eat.
18:38Safe to say you like all fruits then, Yvonne.
18:43Time to turn your attention to the cheese.
18:47We have different kind of cheeses from Sardinia.
18:52So this is a blue cheese, different kind of pecorino, sweet or fresh and mature.
18:59Thank you very much. Looks lovely.
19:01You're welcome.
19:01You have more or less the same.
19:03Yep.
19:04But you have meats too.
19:06This is my favourite store.
19:08Nice to see all the fish, but not up my street.
19:11And I know you don't like the meat, but the meat is delicious.
19:13No, I don't like the meat either.
19:15We had a local tour guide, Christina, who'd been doing it for years.
19:18And it was really, really excellent that she told us all the sort of history of the market
19:22and about the vendors.
19:23She knew lots of people and the knowledge that she had about the food as well as the area was amazing.
19:29And it seems the treats just keep coming for you now, Yvonne.
19:32You have a glass of red wine.
19:35It's Canonal grape.
19:37Right.
19:37The king of the red grape in Sardinia.
19:40Nothing but the best.
19:41So normally it's nice with meat and the cheeses.
19:44Lovely. Thank you very much.
19:45Cheers.
19:46Cheers.
19:46Cheers.
19:47And over with Clive and Bernie, our Sardinian aficionado tour guide Bruno is showing off the sights.
19:59Now we go to Castello.
20:02This is the old city, okay?
20:04Okay.
20:05Oh, the old town.
20:05Yes.
20:06Through the gates here, look.
20:07Oh, wow.
20:07Yeah.
20:08Santa Cristina door.
20:09Ah, that.
20:10Yeah.
20:11Made by our king, Vittorio Emanuele, for this wife.
20:17Look the tourists.
20:17Yay.
20:20Wow.
20:21He was like a whirling dervish, wasn't he?
20:24He was just like so full of it.
20:25He was like a tornado.
20:25He was, wasn't he?
20:28He was so enthusiastic and he was so knowledgeable and he loved to explain about it.
20:36He was passionate about his country.
20:38Okay, this is the Palazzo Vicereggio.
20:44Ah, yeah.
20:44Yeah.
20:45Now we turn around, okay, because it's not possible to pass with our car, okay?
20:51I see.
20:52We're not doing the Italian job of going down the steps.
20:55Okay, yeah, yeah.
20:58This is the house of the king.
21:00Wow.
21:01Very, very nice.
21:03Royal fact for you, the last king to reside here was Victor Emmanuel I,
21:07in the early 1800s.
21:09No longer occupied by any royals, but it's open for tourists to have a nose.
21:14This is the typical street.
21:17Yeah.
21:17Of Cagliari.
21:18Very, very little.
21:19Yeah.
21:20Okay.
21:20But no problem for.
21:21No little car.
21:23No problems.
21:24Even in the car with Bruno, going the speed he was going at times.
21:29We did feel comfortable with him.
21:32He knew exactly where he was going, what he was doing.
21:35Um, unlike all Italians, they, um, speak with the hands, don't they?
21:43Look around.
21:43Oh, wow.
21:46The tower.
21:46The tower there.
21:47Beautiful.
21:47Okay.
21:49Wow.
21:50Fantastic.
21:51Look at this.
21:54The church of Santa Cristina.
21:56Oh, wow.
21:57Santa Caterina.
21:58Oh, that's beautiful.
21:59Very beautiful.
21:59Beautiful.
22:00Yeah.
22:00Very beautiful.
22:01Beautiful.
22:02Wow.
22:02It is like the Italian job.
22:04It is like the Italian job, yeah.
22:05Yeah.
22:06In the little car at times, I did feel as if we were, uh, don't tell me.
22:11The Italian job?
22:13And the Italian job, especially when he went down these little roads, well, they were like,
22:18ah, and then you've got steps at the bottom, but then he'll just sort of, uh, stop and explain about a building.
22:27And talking of all things film, Mr. James Bond himself actually drove his Bond car out of the
22:34Sardinian Sea for The Spy Who Loved Me in 1977. But don't worry everyone, we're staying firmly on the ground in our car.
22:42Back with our taste-testing duo, it's round two of their Cagliari Culinary Crusade.
22:56Oh, that's nice, isn't it?
22:58Lovely.
22:58As they're having a spot of lunch.
23:00Did you learn any Italian before you came?
23:03Uh, yeah, yeah.
23:04A few bits and pieces, but not very much.
23:06I don't know any, a chow, I think that's about it.
23:08A chow, like, just go on goodbye.
23:10Yeah.
23:10But you could also say bonjourno.
23:11Uh-huh.
23:12And I know grazie mille, I think, grazie mille is, thanks a lot.
23:15Right, okay.
23:16Grazie mille, yeah.
23:17Grazie mille, yeah.
23:18That's about it.
23:18Yeah.
23:19Does cappuccino count?
23:20No, pizza.
23:22You sure?
23:24You say tomato, I say tomato.
23:27Ooh, here comes a giant board of food.
23:31Here we have a traditional Sardinian food.
23:35So it was really nice to see a traditional charcuterie platter, and there was everything on it,
23:41everything, it was laden, um, meats, cheeses, breads, pastries, hand-shaped pastries.
23:47We have some, um, um, pork chicken sausages coming from the center of Sardinia.
23:53The food was really nice, um, particularly the cheese and the bread for me.
23:59And, uh, the stone fruits were actually nice as well.
24:02Yeah, I enjoyed that.
24:03Yeah, it was lovely.
24:04Lovely.
24:04Yeah.
24:04Two different cheese.
24:05I got cheese and the pecorino served with, um, uh, apple marmalade.
24:10Lovely.
24:11So the, the waiter was really keen to tell us all about the handmade pastries and everything,
24:15and was telling us about the, the different tarts and about the different flavors and
24:19cheeses and things, truffles and all the rest of it on the bread, which was, it looked great.
24:22And, uh, moreover, we had, uh, some panadinas.
24:27Fabulous.
24:28Yeah, thank you very much.
24:30So, oh, wow.
24:31What are you going to try first, you think?
24:33The cheese.
24:34Cheese.
24:35I like artichoke, so.
24:37Right, artichoke, what do they call this?
24:39Artichoke cake.
24:43That's warm.
24:44Is it?
24:45Lovely.
24:45Nice.
24:45Mm-hmm.
24:47It's really nice.
24:49Marmalade's really tasty.
24:50It was nice to relax after a tour of the food market at a lovely Italian, uh, local
24:56restaurant.
24:57We thoroughly enjoyed that lunch.
24:59Yeah, that was really nice.
25:00It was quite, it was relaxing.
25:02I think you need to come back with your husband for his anniversary.
25:05No.
25:05Treat him.
25:07You tried the mushrooms yet?
25:08No.
25:08I don't think I could eat very much.
25:09No, I don't know that.
25:10We'll leave Anne to convince Yvonne of the joys of mushrooms.
25:14Cheers.
25:14You need to get a doggy bag to go home.
25:19Over with Clive and Bernie, and they are still zooming around the city.
25:23Lots of lovely cafes.
25:24Yeah, cafe.
25:25In glass of vino.
25:26Yeah, vino.
25:27And the Italian people are people so slow.
25:31Yeah.
25:32So quiet.
25:33And it's typical by Italian style to stay, uh, in a table.
25:39Take your time.
25:40Yeah, take your time.
25:41Wait peacefully.
25:42Bruno?
25:43That's right.
25:43Yeah.
25:44I must speak Italian.
25:45Yeah.
25:45Hey!
25:46Yes, of course.
25:47Yeah.
25:50This is the Bastione.
25:51Oh, yeah.
25:52Bastione, not like the Bastille.
25:54Bastione is a little castle.
25:55Yeah.
25:56Okay.
25:56Made by, uh...
25:58Ah, so that must have been what we saw just on the other side.
26:01Yeah.
26:02Made by a king.
26:03Yeah.
26:03For your pleasure.
26:04Yeah!
26:06It's beautiful.
26:07Yeah!
26:08It's beautiful.
26:09Yeah.
26:09Absolutely.
26:10Wow.
26:11Oh.
26:12Fantastic.
26:13Amazing.
26:15Oh.
26:16Wow.
26:17Ballissimo!
26:18Ballissimo!
26:19It's day one for our holiday makers on this week's Mediterranean cruise.
26:33Oh, wow.
26:34Look at this.
26:35First time cruisers, Clive and Bernie.
26:36Well, here we go, Bruno.
26:37Yeah, you go.
26:38Have spent the afternoon having the time of their life on the roads of Cagliari, the historic
26:50heart of Sardinia.
26:51Enjoying it.
26:52I just think we're in the Italian job.
26:54Meanwhile, best friends Anne and Yvonne have experienced new culinary delights in the local market.
27:00Yeah, it's almost cheesy.
27:02I like that.
27:04And a traditional Sardinian restaurant.
27:06Well, you're going to try first, I think.
27:08The cheese.
27:09Cheese.
27:13With Clive and Bernie's tour coming to an end.
27:16Oh, my goodness me.
27:17Goodness me, look.
27:18Oh, and we're nicely in the shade.
27:19Oh, that's better.
27:22Hit my room.
27:23I know.
27:23That was so much fun.
27:26Tour guide Bruno has a parting gift for the special couple.
27:29Vostro pranzo.
27:30Oh.
27:31Ah.
27:31Buon appetito.
27:33Grazie mill.
27:34Hey, hey.
27:36Oh, thank you.
27:38I'm in the tour.
27:39He took us to that beautiful spot where there were some super views, wasn't there?
27:44And he sat us down.
27:44A dear pint.
27:45And he presented us with this wonderful picnic.
27:49Oh, Bernie, what have you got in yours?
27:51Ciao for now, Bruno.
27:54I've got bread.
27:54Have you?
27:55What's this?
27:57Oh, goat's cheese.
27:58Out of that little brown case.
28:00It was like a Paddington case.
28:01That's the best thing.
28:02It really did look like Paddington's case.
28:04And they opened it and out came ham and cheese and some sparkling wine and a bottle of water.
28:10Shut me.
28:10It was just absolutely brilliant.
28:13Oh, it was.
28:14And then he just said, well, bye-bye, you are family now.
28:17And off he drove, didn't he?
28:19Yeah, he did, yeah.
28:20Yeah, it was very nice.
28:21It was really a lovely surprise.
28:23This is delicious.
28:25Shall we have?
28:26I'm ready for this after that ride.
28:30That's it.
28:33Okay, okay.
28:34Okay, okay.
28:35Cheers, sweetheart.
28:37Cheers, darling.
28:38Tell you what, look, this is a perfect way to finish off a perfect day.
28:45That was amazing.
28:46It was fabulous.
28:46It really was.
28:47And I can't get over this view.
28:50I think we might have to come back.
28:53Absolutely gorgeous.
28:55I could stay here all day.
28:58Yes, it's gorgeous, isn't it?
28:59That view is just amazing.
29:02It was a lovely ending to sit there and just chill and just talk about what we'd done, really.
29:09And yeah, it was, it was nice, a nice area.
29:12You got a little bit of a feeling.
29:14Did that just happen?
29:16Do you know, you know, you get that.
29:18Did that just happen, didn't we?
29:20It was, yeah, it was brilliant.
29:21Cheers.
29:23And whilst Clive and Bernie soak up the view,
29:26best friends Anne and Yvonne are doing what Ladies Who Lunch do best, shop.
29:33You see the cheese?
29:34I know, look how blue they are.
29:35They're beautiful.
29:36They are beautiful.
29:37I know, they're really nice.
29:38Oh, lovely purple colour.
29:40In Cagliari, you can shop till you drop with all the bustling markets
29:44and the charming Sardinian boutique shops.
29:47You can also discover the island's famed craftsmanship of hand-painted ceramics
29:52to carpets and vibrant textiles.
29:55Oh, look at the shops.
29:56More food, I'm not looking at any more food.
29:58You had enough, you had enough.
29:58I am not looking at any more food.
30:00Oh, there's a nice shop as well.
30:02And nobody's closed, I think.
30:03Yeah, yeah, yeah.
30:03Sorry, can't be spending your euros in there.
30:05Is it there?
30:06No, I can't.
30:07No, definitely not.
30:07Yeah.
30:08I absolutely love shopping everywhere I go.
30:11I love clothes.
30:12I love make-up.
30:13I love perfume.
30:13I love...
30:15I like spending money, really, basically.
30:16It's as simple as that.
30:17There's a sale, look at a shop.
30:19Oh, my God.
30:19I know, there's a lovely bag in there.
30:21Quite, quite.
30:22They come back later and wheel it in there, do you think?
30:24Yeah, yeah.
30:25What do you think?
30:25Yeah, I see something I like already.
30:27Beautiful.
30:27My husband wouldn't be happy with, well, he knows what I'm like anyway.
30:31So, yeah, I do like spending money.
30:34Oh, that's a 16, I don't know.
30:36I would say that's a 16.
30:37Yeah, 16, I think.
30:38Yeah, 16, I think.
30:39That's okay.
30:39That's 16.
30:40Yeah.
30:41They'll be comfy as well.
30:42My God, here she goes again.
30:43That's how many ships does she look at, and she's going again.
30:47Here we go.
30:47First purchase of the holiday.
30:49Ding, ding, ding.
30:51Time up for both couples in Cagliari.
30:56It's back to the ship to get ready for the evening ahead on board.
31:02Up in the cabin, and Bernie is sorting out her cruise closet for the week.
31:07Look at this.
31:08Wow, this is amazing.
31:13The dressing room, eh?
31:15Oh, yes, the dressing room was my dream.
31:17Yes, my space, his space.
31:21Fabulous.
31:22Can I just point out that smile a little bit?
31:24Go and sit down.
31:26Yes.
31:27Well, my packing has to be for all occasions, like I keep telling you.
31:31Well, I've got this dress, which we'll do for party night.
31:37Ooh, lovely.
31:39The white night.
31:40Could be the captain's table night.
31:43You never know.
31:43Mm-hm.
31:45Just to have drinks on the balcony.
31:47I like glitter.
31:48I like colour.
31:49Yeah, I do like colour.
31:50I mean, back at home, Bernie has seven wardrobes.
31:53You have to have clothes for all occasions.
31:57It might snow.
31:58Well, I have more than enough outfits.
32:01What about that glittery jacket?
32:02And I've got my glittery outfit for the ball night.
32:08Oh, I do love a bit of sparkle.
32:10Bernie is absolutely one of the best packers you will ever find.
32:15She takes with her everything.
32:17The only thing you don't pack is space.
32:19That's great, isn't it?
32:21It's true.
32:22But then I have just got casual dresses just to go down and sit by the pool.
32:29I'll have a walk out in.
32:31Well, you best crack on and pick one for tonight then, Bernie.
32:35And once they get themselves dressed and ship-shaped,
32:39Anne and Yvonne are already kicking off their evening.
32:42Smile.
32:43With a pre-dinner cocktail and soaking in the sunset.
32:47Well, congratulations, Anne.
32:49Cheers to you.
32:50Oh, sorry.
32:51Congratulations, everyone.
32:53I'm pregnant, didn't I?
32:54Sorry.
32:57Sorry.
32:57I didn't want to say that.
32:58Cheers.
32:59Here's to many more.
33:01It was lovely to be back on the ship again
33:03after such a busy day.
33:05The sail away cruise would be really nice with cocktails
33:08and leaving Cagliari behind.
33:10It would be sad to go,
33:11but it'll be nice to move on to the next place.
33:13So a lovely way to finish the day off, I think.
33:15Yeah.
33:16There's that street with the blue trees.
33:19I think you get a different view from the sea as well, don't you?
33:21When you look on the city, when you look back at the land.
33:23I love a cocktail.
33:25I don't really drink spirits very often.
33:29I'm more a wine drinker.
33:30But a nice cocktail, particularly on holiday.
33:34I think it's all part of your holiday.
33:36Sunshine and cocktails is perfection for me.
33:40I hope it's dark.
33:41The next few days are as good as today, our first day.
33:44Yeah, definitely.
33:44It's been fantastic.
33:45What a smoke to see and try, I think.
33:47Yeah.
33:47And it'll be lovely, yeah.
33:48Fingers crossed.
33:49What an experience.
33:50Yeah, definitely.
33:50And a luxurious experience, I would say.
33:52Yeah.
33:53Yeah.
33:53Well, thoroughly spoiled.
33:54It's been an amazing day.
33:56Sunshine, food, relaxation.
34:00Yeah, I think the first day went really well for both of us.
34:03There was something for each of us that we both enjoyed and enjoyed a lot of.
34:08And we're going to have a lovely evening, I think, together as well,
34:11like a girls' night out, which will be nice as well, getting dressed up.
34:13As the ship prepares to set sail to its next destination of Sicily, Clive and Bernie make
34:27their way to the top deck to wave goodbye to Cagliari.
34:31And can I just say, lovely choice of outfit tonight, Bernie.
34:39It's been a lovely day.
34:40It's been really good.
34:41Really excellent.
34:42I mean, if every day is like this, it's going to be a fantastic, fantastic holiday.
34:48It is.
34:48We've been blessed with the weather today.
34:50We have.
34:51Although the forecast tonight says it's a wee bit windy, not too early.
34:55Well, it doesn't matter.
34:55It'll just rock us to sleep.
34:59So there we are at the end of the day.
35:00We stood at the back of the ship, didn't she, watching Cagliari disappear into the distance.
35:05And I think it set us wondering about what the rest of the week are holding store.
35:11It did, yeah.
35:12I think we were excited, weren't we?
35:14Oh, oh, thank you.
35:15Oh, thank you.
35:16That'll be yours, won't it?
35:19Lovely.
35:19Thank you very much.
35:21Thank you very much indeed.
35:22Cheers.
35:23Thank you very much.
35:26Well.
35:26Oh, lovely.
35:27A ship drink.
35:29A goodbye drink.
35:30A farewell drink.
35:32Well, it could be a farewell drink, but hello drink to tomorrow.
35:35Arrivederci.
35:36Arrivederci, Sardinia.
35:38How about that?
35:39Oh, cheers.
35:40That's gorgeous.
35:41Molto bene, Clive.
35:43The Sardinians are very welcoming, very friendly, and you feel like family.
35:52They welcome you with open arms.
35:54They really do, and it was lovely.
35:57It was a nice place to visit, and I would definitely go back.
36:03Yeah, it was lovely.
36:06Well, how about, bye, Cagliari.
36:11See you again soon one day.
36:13Oh, it's been wonderful.
36:16Thank you for such a lovely day.
36:18Hear, hear.
36:19And Bruno.
36:20And Bruno.
36:21Bye, Bruno.
36:21God bless, Bruno.
36:32What a busy day it's been for our intrepid travellers in Cagliari.
36:42With best friends Anne and Yvonne having their taste buds tickled.
36:47Sorry, good night, Bernie.
36:48Lovely.
36:49With traditional Sardinian food.
36:51The food was really nice, particularly the cheese.
36:53Yeah, I enjoyed that.
36:54Yeah, it was lovely.
36:55Lovely.
36:55Yeah.
36:56And lovebirds Clive and Bernie had a whirlwind tour of the city.
37:00Yeah!
37:02Followed by a picnic with a view.
37:05I could stay here all day.
37:07Yes, it's gorgeous, isn't it?
37:09That view.
37:15Well, a very good evening, ambience.
37:16This is your cruise director, Adam, here.
37:18So lovely to see so many of you out on the deck in the sunshine.
37:21Three, two, one, go in.
37:25The ship has now left its Sardinian port and is heading out into the Mediterranean Sea.
37:30And our holidaymakers are ready for an evening of activities on board the ambassador cruise.
37:35This was the last great frontier for us, wasn't it?
37:37Because we've done everything else.
37:39Yeah.
37:39Well, we've done the barges.
37:40Hotels.
37:41But I think cruising is the...
37:43I think...
37:44I can understand.
37:44I can understand.
37:45Yeah, I can understand.
37:47I can understand.
37:47Yeah.
37:48Like leaving one place.
37:50Now we're going off again and we're going to be somewhere else.
37:52I think that's just...
37:53All these different places, which we wouldn't have done.
37:56No.
37:56Has it fuelled your excitement?
37:59It's opened my eyes, I've got to admit.
38:02Oh, Lord.
38:04Do you know what next Friday is?
38:06Yeah, our anniversary.
38:07It's 49 years.
38:09I know.
38:10And Clive isn't going to let their special anniversary sail by.
38:15It's difficult to say how much I love Bernie, you know.
38:17However, I've had a little idea.
38:20And I want to try and arrange something a bit special for Bernie.
38:24Well, I certainly love a surprise.
38:26Can't wait to find out what you have up your sleeve.
38:29So, I think next year we should extend...
38:31Really push the boat out.
38:32Yeah.
38:33Push the boat out.
38:38I could sleep here.
38:39Not just yet, Bernie.
38:40You've still got dinner to go.
38:44And over with Anne and Yvonne, they're all spruced up for the evening.
38:48But the big question of the day is, are they ready for round three of food?
38:53Well, I feel like I've done today, is it?
38:56I'm looking forward to it.
38:57Yeah, it'd be nice, wouldn't it?
38:58Yeah, I know.
38:58Look, your hair came out well as well, didn't it?
39:01Yvonne, she's extremely glamorous and more than one or two outfits a day.
39:06And then they're trying on for the night as well.
39:08It seems to take really well.
39:09Mine doesn't it? Mine's as flat as anything.
39:11But let's see.
39:11No, it's OK.
39:12A wee bit of body.
39:13I know, thanks for the colours, but yours has got a right curl, hasn't it?
39:16Yvonne has matching shoes, bag, and I'm going to say this on here, knickers and bras to match the outfits.
39:23Same colours, every outfit.
39:24Ready to rock and roll.
39:25Rock and roll, rock and roll.
39:27I don't think I've ever seen anybody with so many dresses.
39:30Yeah, I do like my clothes.
39:31I do.
39:32And I've got about 20 dresses with me.
39:35OK, the night is young.
39:38Go on, ladies.
39:44If food is your god, you're in the right place here.
39:47I wonder where our guests will eat tonight.
39:53So I might have a fish, but who knows, but oh my god, there's a bunch of cheese.
39:56Do you think, Clive?
39:57Do you think, Clive?
39:58Salad.
39:58Salad.
39:58Salad.
40:06Oh.
40:06So what we thinking, Clive and Bernie?
40:08Oh, mushroom relevance, your favourite.
40:10Oh, and look, turkey a la king.
40:14They must have read my mind to see mushroom relevance and turkey a la king on the menu.
40:21Just my favourites.
40:22One of my favourites too, Clive.
40:24Couldn't believe it.
40:25You've got Grouper still in.
40:27Pardon?
40:27Is it Grouper?
40:29No, it's Grouper, not Grouper.
40:31Not Grouper.
40:31Not Grouper.
40:32Glad you sorted that out.
40:34Definitely.
40:35It was lovely having our first dinner, wasn't it?
40:38Yeah, it was.
40:38This evening.
40:39Yeah.
40:39When you've got so many people to cater for perfection.
40:47It's lovely.
40:48Thank you very much.
40:50How about you, Anne and Yvonne?
40:52How about some more fish eggs?
40:54Some cake?
40:55Cheese, perhaps?
40:57Any idea yet, Yvonne?
40:58No.
40:59Cheese and crackers.
41:00I think I might give her this tonight tonight.
41:01I'm having a lot of cheese.
41:02Yeah, thanks.
41:03Can I have the salmon gravlax, please?
41:07And then I'm going to go for a main course and I'll go for the baked grouper.
41:10Much as we're eating and drinking all day and really making the most of it, you can always
41:13squeeze in a wee bit more and possibly a sweet and another glass of wine.
41:18And the lentil nuts loaf, yeah.
41:21How about the desserts?
41:23I'll probably go for the cheese and crack.
41:26Yeah.
41:27I thought you said you'd had enough cheese.
41:30Oh, here we go.
41:31Here we go.
41:32Oh, lovely.
41:33Thank you very much.
41:35Thank you, young.
41:36Oh, that looks brilliant.
41:38Thank you very much.
41:40Oh, wow.
41:40Oh, look at that.
41:41There's loads of mushrooms in there, isn't there?
41:43Yeah.
41:44Is it tasty?
41:45No, it's a bit tasty.
41:46How do you know it's full?
41:47Because there's not much room in there.
41:53I got you then.
41:54I thought that was for me.
41:56Oh, sorry.

42:28Well, what a day that was for our cruisers,
42:31from riding around the windy roads of Cagliari
42:36to eating their way through the city.
42:38Do you like?
42:39Yeah, it's almost cheesy.
42:40But what did they make of it all?
42:41I would say the very first day has been amazing.
42:47First class, fantastic.
42:49Thoroughly enjoyed myself.
42:51Everything about Sardinia, the ship, has been fantastic.
42:56And good company as well, but we've managed to squeeze a lot in and it's been great.
43:01And seeing Cagliari like that is fabulous.
43:04It was something completely different.
43:07So thoroughly enjoyed it.
43:08Can't wait to do more.
43:09I think it set us wondering about what the rest of the week are at holding store.
43:14And it was wonderful.
43:16But I think it was exciting.

43:51Bonjour.
43:53In the historic capital of Syracuse.
43:55But it should be a relaxing pose.
43:57Where Anne and Yvonne get bendy on the seafront.
44:00It's called downward facing dog.
44:02Straighten a little bit our legs.
44:03Why do you think I could do that?
44:05Follow my sweet.
44:06And Clive and Bernie.
