01:10Travelling with us this week on MS Ambience are our two pairs of seafaring sightseers,
01:15who are on day two of their trip.
01:17Cruising newbies and couple of 20 years, James and Damien, live in Essex.
01:24We've had so many good things about cruise ships.

01:28The idea's always been open to us, but we've just never had the opportunity to do it yet.
01:32Also easing into life on board are Tamara and Mum Jackie from Croydon.

01:45These two are more than mother and daughter.
01:47They're best friends, travel buddies and each other's biggest cheerleader.

01:53And from being more of a land holiday lover, Tamara is definitely getting into the swing
01:58of things at sea after the first day.

02:02I found my sea legs just about.

02:09Yesterday, they immersed themselves fully into Dutch culture, tasting cheese.

02:25Whilst James and Damien took in Amsterdam in an altogether different way.
02:29I think this has got to be the best way to see Amsterdam.

02:32Just relaxing with a glass of champagne.
02:34Before stopping for a taste of the city's favourite sweet treat, Stroopwafel.
02:39It's really nice and gooey.

02:42Having left Amsterdam yesterday, the ship will be travelling 1400 miles to the Portuguese
02:50capital city of Lisbon, which means a day at sea.
02:54And as the sun rises, James and Damien have wasted no time in getting into the sea day
02:59spirit.
03:00They're off for their first ever yoga session.
03:03Thank you for coming to our morning yoga.
03:05We're going to have a little bit of a warm up and then we'll start with our stretching.
03:09We'd never done yoga.
03:10So we agreed it was going to be a holiday first.
03:13So we thought to ourselves, let's go and do yoga.
03:17We didn't know what to expect because we've never experienced this before.
03:21So we didn't know what it was going to be like.
03:22We didn't have any of the gear.
03:24So we just changed them to normal.
03:26Shorts and t-shirt.

03:28Yeah.
03:29This is totally different to how I normally start my day.
03:33Normally, I start my day with six o'clock spaniels demanding to get out in the garden for
03:37them to stretch.
03:38Demanding breakfast.
03:39And then I'm doing their breakfast.
03:40I've not got time to do my stretches.
03:44I'm looking forward to this.
03:45This is going to be a nice, gentle stretch.
03:47That's what I'm telling myself.

03:49I feel like I'm doing a proper yoga pose, mum.
04:02Yes, James, I'm sure that's some kind of yoga pose.
04:10Meanwhile, mum Jackie and daughter Tamara are kicking off their sea day with a spot of
04:16breakfast.

04:21This inseparable pair have never had a taste of cruising before and are looking forward
04:26to discovering what lies in store.
04:28So this is an omelette station again with hash browns.

04:44Omelettes are quiet, but for Tamara, there's still some adjusting to do.
04:49So it's the strangest and surrealist feeling eating whilst travelling because you're stationary.
04:56You can't feel that you're moving, but you can see the landscape just slowly drifting by.
05:02So what's the plan for today, ladies?
05:05I feel like maybe I am a person who's like, get me online so I can go and explore.
05:12Well, Jackie, this is the perfect chance to show Tamara that a sea day can also be a fun
05:18day.
05:19So we need to explore, obviously.
05:20Yeah, no, we need to explore.
05:22Whilst the girls decide on what to do with their day on the high seas.
05:27James and Damien are already getting a sweat on in the yoga studio.
05:32Taking a roll of your shoulders and a bend of your knees, waking everything up.
05:37We've got very busy lives with work, very busy lives with our hobby, and we've not been on holiday for a long time.
05:46So it's been nice to have this opportunity to go away, to try and relax, to chill out, and basically just to try and reconnect together.
05:56The boys are clearly reconnecting. Just a shame their coordination skills didn't get the memo.
06:05We've gone the wrong way. The opposite way to everyone else.
06:08I can't see anything. She'll be telling me to do something else in there and I can't see.
06:11Yoga is all about finding your flow, and James and Damien have found an entirely new one.
06:18It's harder than I thought.
06:22What I've noticed was that the people obviously had been before, they knew it, and they knew the poses and they anticipated what to do, didn't they?
06:31The only pose I'd heard of was the downward dog.
06:34From here, we're going to thread the needle, lifting one arm up, hopping it underneath, feeling a stretch in your shoulder blades.

06:44As the boys discover positions they never knew existed, Tamara and Jackie are off to their first activity of the day.
06:55We have checked out the itinerary this morning on the ship, and we are going to do a bit of jewellery making.
07:02They've decided to try a group activity where they can get to know other guests.

07:10Today we're going to be making a memory wire bracelet. Very simple and easy to do.
07:17And it doesn't take them long to make some new friends.

07:36I think being on a cruise ship is one of the easiest places to make friends. Everyone talks to you, everyone engages with you.

08:05I think the difference with being on a cruise, it's because we're all on a cruise ship.

08:10There's a lot more opportunity for us to see people that we've engaged in conversations with, had breakfast, lunch or something with.
08:16So we can sit down and that's the bit where we get to know a bit more about each other.

12:59So, the idea is when you throw the balls to get it round one of the rungs of the ladder.
13:06So, if you get it on the top one, it was less points because it was higher up and easier to do.

15:34a relaxing class have some pride i'm okay i'm at a beat have some pride at the crafting table
15:42when i finished and admired my crafty works it looked picture perfect it was absolutely beautiful
15:50aren't you supposed to encourage it when i try that she then turns everything we do into our
15:55competitions i am taking my glory
16:01i hope you have some pride okay she doesn't know it yet but she's about to get the non-matching set
16:07for christmas i'm gonna box it up for her and she can wear one on each hand i love you still but you

18:59tension for toe tapping they're off to a dance class very difficult because you have to miss the first beat

19:16latin class today we're going to be doing the cha-cha-cha
19:22with the help of her glamorous assistant dave lindsay from the entertainment team will be teaching
19:27this vibrant latin american dance that originated in cuba in the 1950s we always have watched dance
19:34shows on tv and we've said yeah we were gonna try our hand up seeing if we could emulate the
19:42professionals the first thing we're going to do is the steps of the cha-cha-cha and we're going to go
19:47left right cha-cha-cha left right okay got it and then we go right left cha-cha-cha hold on
19:58right left oh uh you've lost me already right left and a cha-cha-cha and you just keep that going
20:06with the cha-cha-cha there's three basic steps which is like you miss the first beat cha-cha-cha shuffle
20:13to the right or left three times we're going to put some music on so you can just start to feel that
20:17cha-cha-cha rhythm this is so confusing keep going girls i think when lindsay thought we everyone in
20:36the class have gotten the hang of it she decided to step it up a level so what we're going to do now
20:41is we're going to face our partner so very good now we're going to try the new yorker one step two

22:39thought and ladder golf rivalry oh yes jackie and daughter tamara have swapped glittery gems for
22:49latin grooves and do the cha-cha-cha this way but so far things are less rhythm and rumba and more
22:55bumper and blunder cha-cha-cha-cha honey she's the problem it's not me luckily lindsay's on hand
23:04to give some private tuition okay so five six seven wait one two three i think lindsay did her best you
23:16know with what she was giving ready two three and one two three cha-cha-cha two three when she was
23:24demonstrating with us it was easier yeah and then the moment she left us it all fell apart i think it
23:30was distracting having other people around us we'll take your word for it jackie

25:58a table i just went straight to the queue you went to the queue james is feeling a bit lucky
26:01oh my god thank you so thank you very much it's his money hey and good job we arrived 30 minutes
26:09early because already it was quite busy so i managed to get us a table and i sat and wait
26:14got six tickets so what do you want top of them i thought you don't ask me a top of them
26:22with six tickets and a dream these two are treating bingo like a cup final eyes down boys so welcome to
26:30your good old game of bingo if you have a claim what we shouting out folks bingo that's right bingo
26:38all righty so then if we're all good to go eyes down teeth in
26:45let bingo battle commence and your first number out of the gate is four and seven it's 47
26:54seven and three it's 73 six and oh a blind 60. on its own one little duck is the number two
27:08on the cruise ship uh bingo is a lot more relaxed and our experience at home is the bingo callers are
27:13really really quick so it might go number one yeah number 10 yeah i'm a 69 and it's that you've got to
27:19be really really quick yeah we've had a lot of the raiment slang as well legs 11 and two jellies on a
27:25plate 88. yeah all the eights two jellies on a plate it's 88. three and oh it's a blind 30.
27:37one and nine end of the teens it's 19 have a play right down the center
27:43i just need you 56. oh so close damien how about another go time to move on to our second game now
27:52we're playing for two lines all right that is two lines on your gray page for a lovely 126 pounds and

28:11on its own kelly's eye it's the number one oh that's me oh you were robbed as james and damien limber
28:21up for the next round with pencils at the ready
28:29it's non-stop for jackie and tamara they've made their way up to the ship's sundeck ready for a
28:34shuffleboard showdown these pots all the way down there into that triangle you want to try and get
28:40as many points as you can and lee from the entertainment team has taken on the challenger
28:46referee uh sorry instructor to our competitive mom and daughter duo takes a bit of skill and a bit of
28:53dumb luck to it so i'm gonna give you those i'm the dumb element you're the dumb element so perfect
29:01cues in hand it's time to get shuffling that's it you're getting it you're getting close down warm
29:10around it's fine neither me or mom has ever played before that's a good shot ah i'm clearing the board
29:21yeah not too bad it's not that's it you can step i'm not moving any further and then my arms here like

34:16the cruise has been traveling through the bay of biscay to its next destination of lisbon and it's been
34:23a day packed to the starboard gills for our two sets of holiday makers from fitness to more competitive
34:30fun yeah james and damien have got to grips with yoga sort of and gone head to head in bingo
34:42three you know it's a blind search oh i've got that and ladder golf yes
34:50for jackie and tamara it's been a day of learning new skills
34:54this is actually a really quite cute jewelry making class right yeah it's very nice one step two
35:01and easing into the rhythm of things or perhaps the cha-cha-cha of things you i don't think you're
35:06good at this you're the problem and now an evening at sea beckons
35:12after an afternoon spent on their feet jackie and daughter tamara have chosen to unwind in style
35:24in the ship's spa a bit of luxury and pampering was definitely required going to the spa was a
35:29wonderful way to end our day hi uh we've come for a spa treatment they gave us a few minutes to
35:36decompress yes the more expensive the harder it is to open i just want to let you know that okay
35:45it was a very luxurious experience
35:49a toast to you thank you no worries cheers oh cheers toasts complete ladies your treatment rooms are ready
36:01with all that shuffling and cha-cha charring it's an easy choice for mum jackie when it comes to picking
36:06a treatment mum had a pedicure done yes i did that feels nice thank you very much i think i needed
36:14the pedicure and it was nice and she was very good at kind of massaging and taking away a lot of the
36:20tension from my feet oh sounds lovely she was able to have a really lovely foot massage
36:36meanwhile james and damien have a special evening of their own lined up in the ship's palladium
36:42theater one board we saw a few posters didn't we for claire sweeney we were really looking forward
36:47to that night you are a fan of the seats i do i do like coronation street so i've seen her in coronation
36:52street i didn't watch her in brookside i was a bit too young for that i did i did because i'm a bit older
36:56than you these are good seats actually you can see everything on the stage and it's clear james and
37:06damien aren't the only ones keen to get seated for tonight's big show you need to get here early because
37:11they get on the chairs love it look at them they're all here already grabbing their seats they've all put
37:15little bags down to save spaces we were on the balcony and it doesn't feel like being on a cruise ship in
37:23the slightest does it it just feels like you're at a west end production claire sweeney i'm so
37:27looking forward to this she's very good at the musicals so i wonder if she'll be singing tonight
37:30but you know what did she she's done a lot of work on the cruise ships doesn't she yes yes i bet
37:35i bet she can give her some tips if we bump into her in the bar later on yes we'll need to try and
37:40track her down and ask her what see what her top tips are for for first time cruisers the packed
37:46audience is full of glitz and glamour and the boys can't resist a bit of people watching
37:51somebody's got a very sparkly dressing people they all get dressed up don't they and it's so
37:56lovely you forget you're on a ship these people they're dressed immaculate and i even felt a bit
38:01underdressed i was in a nice shirt and jumper and i thought to myself these people are really
38:05making an effort it's a full house as cruise director adam takes to the stage lovely to see you
38:13back in the palladium haven't we got a treat for you tonight so please go wild and crazy for the

38:48elsewhere on the shed things are slightly more tranquil in the spa
39:08and with Jackie feeling suitably relaxed it's Tamara's turn I had a hot stone massage it was
39:15well needed and I was able to get the knots out of my shoulders I've never had a hot stone massage
39:21before my masseuse she has great pressure she has great hands you know it was definitely hot the
39:32stones but it's so relaxing like the stones I don't mind heat so the stones are like really nice
39:40after a non-stop day it looks like the masseuse all-in approach is just the fix for tomorrow
39:47she definitely got the knots out I feel like I was ironed out it's like being in the nail shop
39:53when they have the massage chairs but like way nicer it was well needed was that a pun tomorrow
39:59I could see myself falling asleep but this is the perfect end to a really lovely day
40:15meanwhile over at the Palladium Claire ends her one-woman show to a rapturous applause
40:21in the ship's bar James and Damien are still buzzing and a little birdie may have told Claire they're big fans

41:22down-to-earth I've asked a lot of guests about hints and tips but we've not asked someone with some
41:27inside knowledge knowledge so what's your what's your tips and tips on what I love about this ship
41:33yeah this is quite intimate yes but it's not so small that it rocks a lot no yeah because I worked
41:40on cruises when I was 19 for about five years and I got seasick every cruise every single cruise
41:47and you know what was my cure glass of port a glass of port and lay on your back apparently if you lay
41:56on your back it balances all the fluids out in your body and stops you being nauseous well and then we
42:10asked about Gibraltar and she said that we needed to keep everything secure because the monkeys would
42:15be trying and everything yeah and would you come cruising again oh we'd definitely come cruising again
42:21we've just had such an amazing time on everything that we've done this week it's been on this trip
42:27it's a trip to the first everything that's been as the first time I've got another show to do

42:42it's been an action-packed day for our guests on board the good ship ambience

43:03James and Damien we did the yoga which was really quite fun and I really enjoyed it apart from a
43:10windy moment I knew you were going to say that the ladder golf ladder golf was fun yeah fun and
43:15competitive like that so first sea day for four sons and how about Tamara and Jackie who are keen to
43:24make mother and daughter memories on board cha cha cha we don't deserve a son for it no so we will
43:31score the day four four sons next time we're in Lisbon where Tamara and Jackie take to the streets
43:44to see the sights have you got the clutch on so don't roll back yeah this doesn't have clutch this is
43:49automatic okay before putting their pastry making skills to the test well done high five good and James and
43:59Damien get fishy with some local delicacies I think you normally try a little no no definitely not
44:05and go on a rib ride to remember there it is oh wow two of them swimming together
