00:00Beautification of the nation's highways to the tune of one million dollars is part of the ministry's plans to boost TNT's image in its tourism thrust.
00:11One million for cluster planting on the nation's highways and provided a million to do it.
00:20Honorable minister, wasn't the CPEP workers doing this very same thing of planting on the highways?
00:26I don't think that's a proper question.
00:29No, that's...
00:30Okay, I will rephrase, Mr. Speaker, I will rephrase.
00:34I will rephrase.
00:37This is a tourist attraction like the Japan cherry blossoms to beautify the country.
00:44Yes, on the highways, correct?
00:46Of course.
00:47You make it all over the country and you involve all the children involved in this.
00:51So you agree that this is being done on the highways?
00:54And my question to you, sir, my question to you is this.
00:59And you're going to hire workers to do that, correct?
01:03And you're going to hire workers to do that, correct?
01:06We are hoping to hire a lot of volunteers, especially school children.
01:10But you have allocated a sum of one million, so you're going to pay school children money?
01:15No, you have other costs involved.
01:18So my question to you, sir, this is why my question to you is this.
01:21Under this heading, isn't this, sir, exactly what the CPEP workers were doing?
01:27No.
01:28The ministry also intends to leverage TNT's nesting leatherback turtle population.
01:34Four million dollars has been budgeted for the venture.
01:38We have the highest density of giant turtlebacks in the world.
01:44Probably, from what I understand, four times as dense as any other country in the world.
01:53And this is something, the best place to be in business is where we're the best in the world at.
02:01So we intend to leverage this as a major tourist attraction to the country.
02:08Meantime, opposition member Stuart Young is raising concern over what he sees as a paltry allocation
02:15towards the support of guest houses and accommodations.
02:19Do you think that the sum of one and a half million dollars,
02:24which is just over $100,000 a month for a year,
02:28is sufficient to support the stock of guest houses in Trinidad and Tobago?
