00:00Third day of competition here at the Venice Lido and today we saw no other choice, the new film by Park Chan-wok.
00:11The last time we saw him in competition at a festival was in 2022 and at KH with Decision to which he won the Palme d'Or for Best Director.
00:19Here he brings a decidedly intriguing comedy thriller that tells the story of an ordinary man who after 25 years of work in the paper industry is suddenly fired.
00:33He starts jumping from interview to interview, but when he realizes that things are no longer going well for him and his family, a wife and two children, he decides to put a rather bizarre plan into action to wipe out the competition.
00:51It is absolutely appreciable how Park Chan-wok's cinema continues to renew its language and in particular this is perhaps his most international production that could actually manage to aim for major awards and as always Park Chan-wok is an absolutely meticulous director who constructs talking images.
01:21The most brilliant idea, in particular, is that despite being a film about the world of work, the real battle takes place outside.
01:32But in this outside we still read the entire story of the protagonist and his relationship with a sector, uh, of work that he does not want to let go of.
01:42He is immersed in the woods and his house is located in the most luxuriant nature. His wife herself will call him a vegetable.
01:51In short, there is this idea, uh, of framing the work of our protagonist in a way that is anything but trivial, a job that has to do with nature, with touch, with the production of things, and that is also very interesting to put in relation to a film seen yesterday, Bugna Asterisk by Giorgos Lanthimos, in which Jesse Plemons plays a beekeeper.
02:11Another great point of merit is the writing of the female characters who, as always, in Party Walk are ambiguous, enigmatic and make choices that we could question.
02:26Without going into spoiler territory, we can tell you that it is probably the most contemporary film of Perrin Walk and that we absolutely recommend you catch up on it once you are at the cinema.
