00:00The last film in the competition officially screened at Venice 82 is the Chinese production The Sun Rises All.
00:09The sun rises on us all and left us quite perplexed.
00:19Set in Fusan, it is the story of this former couple who meet again quite by chance, namely while she is in the hospital for an ultrasound because she is pregnant, she finds her ex-lover hospitalized.
00:30It turns out that he is terminally ill, he has stomach cancer and the interesting thing about this basic idea is that there is a secret in their past that binds them, a debt that the woman must repay towards the man.
01:00And precisely because of this secret that will be revealed in the course of the film, the man moves into the woman's house, begins to follow her to work in her daily life and, precisely by making her understand that there is no way to pay off the debt except somehow, to reclaim the part of life that the woman has taken from him.
01:15The basic concept is quite interesting and let's say that even on a directorial and photography level, there's this idea of a run-down China that reflects the lives of the protagonists and, um, it's a story of sacrifice, of characters who desperately seek redemption.
01:43The problem is that the narrative, let's say, tends to be overly dramatic and what ends up being, in the end, is nothing more than a truly weak melodrama.
02:03In reality, the acting performances are quite good, but they are absolutely not supported by a script that can keep up with these dramatic outbursts that accompany the protagonists.
02:18So yes, we would have expected something more.
02:28And, by the way, it's also quite a long film, 2 hours and 10 minutes, which, unfortunately, you can feel all of, precisely because in reality, despite the film wanting to tackle rather intriguing relational themes, it then gets lost in a complete simplification.
02:43And then, I'll have a goodchan.
02:45Thank you.
02:47Thanks, thanks,
