00:00Along with tropical humidity, Nova Bach also arrives at the Lido, presenting Jay Kelly in competition.
00:11The story is that of the protagonist Jay Kelly, played by George Clooney, the absolute star of the film,
00:17who is an international actor, a great Hollywood star, who finds himself facing a sort of end-of-career crisis,
00:23in which he comes to terms with everything he had to sacrifice to have a brilliant career.
00:30He has made millions of films and can't walk down the street without being stopped by fans looking for autographs and photographs.
00:42However, he has a destroyed family life and, uh, he constantly feels alone, despite being surrounded, uh, at every moment, by his staff,
00:50by his staff who look after him as if he were a child.
00:53The main theme of the film, in fact, is this seemingly unbridgeable dichotomy between a successful career and the sacrifice of personal affections.
01:10Uh, it's a rather overused theme and in fact the film does not shine for its interest.
01:14Adding to the seemingly exhausted theme is a cliché-filled depiction of Italy through the eyes of Americans,
01:25which often makes us, as Italians, turn up our noses.
01:28In addition to this, there is also a rather outdated and out-of-place depiction of the rich interacting with the poor,
01:44and in particular, the moments in which Cloney's character, the world-famous star,
01:49comes into contact with normal people, with ordinary mortals.
01:52In the film he is portrayed as an epiphany of the kindness and beauty of ordinary people,
01:57when in fact it is clearly a distorted vision of a person to whom everyone addresses themselves with a certain deference,
02:02given his position on the social ladder.
02:13The film is full of very famous faces.
02:15Apart from Cloney, who is the protagonist, there is Adam Sandler who plays his manager.
02:22Um, it is a bit sad to see Sandler's character slightly sacrificed.
02:29We know very well that the actor, who is perhaps best known to the general public mainly for his comedies,
02:35peer comedies, is a very refined performer when faced with important stories and scripts,
02:40and the fact that Bomback has vaguely sacrificed him is a bit disappointing.
02:44The presence of this film in the Venice competition is surprising,
02:54especially since in the past Boach had brought some of his best works to the Lido,
02:58such as Marriage Story and White Noise, which, although it caused controversy,
03:02was still a much more interesting and complex work.
