00:03:01We've known these two lads for a long time.

00:03:03They've both been there and done it before,

00:03:05but they've never gone head-to-head for a championship before like this.

00:03:08Yeah, no, it's absolutely fantastic.

00:03:10And what a couple of chaps there are anyway.

00:03:13I mean, it's been great to see some of the early footage of them.

00:03:15You know, they just love their racing.

00:03:17They love their bikes.

00:03:18They've always had this wonderful rivalry,

00:03:20but now it comes down to this head-to-head.

00:03:22They both won championships separately,

00:03:24but they, well, I say separately.

00:03:26It's kind of Kyle won his without Brad last year.

00:03:29But this just feels like something different.

00:03:31And it's, to be honest, I can't wait.

00:03:33It's such an important basis.

00:03:34Yeah, of course, Brad won it in 2022 when they were teammates, John.

00:03:38He went away to World Superbikes.

00:03:40He's come back now, and we were all interested to see

00:03:43Kyle having won it last year,

00:03:44if he would raise his game with Brad back.

00:03:46And he's done that and more.

00:03:48Yeah, he's definitely shown what he's capable of.

00:03:51Shows he's a champion.

00:03:53Same thing with Ray.

00:03:54Ray's come back.

00:03:55He's there.

00:03:56He's obviously built his confidence back.

00:03:57It's taken a little while.

00:03:59And here we are.

00:04:02but you never know what can happen.

00:04:25because this is a story of friendship that's not just between the two riders,

00:04:28but between Kevin and Sean as well.

00:04:32Yeah, just before we get to the grid for the first BSB race,

00:04:36I'm joined by the fathers of the two championship contenders,

00:04:40Sean and Kevin.

00:04:41I'm sure you guys can figure out which son belongs to which father.

00:04:45But as arguably the two people that know them best,

00:04:49can you give us some true insights to how the lads are feeling coming into this weekend

00:04:53after all the years that they've known each other as well?

00:04:58I think they're both the same as each other.

00:05:00They're both quite chilled, aren't they, Kev?

00:05:02Just going to do the best and best man to win.

00:05:06Yeah, Brad's just more relaxed than I've seen him all year, really.

00:05:10He's just, what will be, will be.

00:05:12Whoever comes out on top will come out on top.

00:05:16Sean, we saw you give Kyle a hug there before he went out.

00:05:20I mean, you guys have both got a close relationship with the lads.

00:05:23Can you share with us some words that you give to your sons

00:05:27as they're about to take on such an incredible feat?

00:05:30What do you say to them?

00:05:32I just say, enjoy it.

00:05:34That's exactly what I say.

00:05:35Just enjoy riding your bike.

00:05:37Yeah, well, that's all we can say.

00:05:40And you guys have known each other for a long time.

00:05:42We can see that you're ready to watch this one.

00:05:44We'll let you get back to your boxes.

00:05:53I think the dads are pretty nervous, understandably so.

00:05:56We often see them give each other a hug.

00:05:58And these are guys who have travelled all over Europe together in motorhomes

00:06:01and spent a lot of hours together now, James.

00:06:04It's a special moment for them as well.

00:06:05Yeah, very much.

00:06:06I mean, it's a shame anyone's got to come out, you know, without winning, if you know what I mean.

00:06:10But it is the nature of the beast.

00:06:12But as you say, they've got a very special relationship.

00:06:15So much history.

00:06:16You know, they've been racing since they were like knee high.

00:06:18And it's going to be fascinating today.

00:06:20I think this first race today is really important to set the tone of the weekend.

00:06:25So, yeah, it's going to be interesting.

00:06:27We shouldn't forget about Leon Haslam as well, John,

00:06:30because he's got an outside very slim chance of getting involved in this championship fight.

00:06:34It's still mathematically, and he won't give up.

00:06:36We know that.

00:06:37No, Haslam, you can bet on, will never give up.

00:06:40He's going to give it everything he has.

00:06:42There's obviously a few guys that are going to throw a spanner into the works.

00:06:46Skinner, he's been solid this morning.

00:06:49You never know what could happen as well.

00:06:50Ride, Ray, something happens to them.

00:06:53Mathematical chance for Haslam for tomorrow.

00:06:55But like James said, today is going to play a big factor on which way this whole thing is going to go.

00:07:03So, it's unbelievable.

00:07:17I'm not sure whether Leon's that good at maths.

00:07:20But still in with a mathematical chance of winning this championship.

00:07:25How are you feeling?

00:07:26Yeah, good.

00:07:26I've got an easy job.

00:07:27I've just got to win all three and see what happens.

00:07:30In a weird way, is that almost...

00:07:32You can get less nervous about that than if you have a real big chance of winning.

00:07:36Yeah, definitely it's less nervous.

00:07:38You know, we've got quite a big gap over fourth place.

00:07:40So, we've kind of secured third.

00:07:42Hopefully, we can top that off in this first race.

00:07:44And yeah, my job's easy for the championship.

00:07:46It's got to win races.

00:07:47And yeah, we had a bad round here in July.

00:07:49So, for me, we've made some good steps this weekend.

00:07:52And it's all a bit of a learning process leading into next year.

00:07:55And hopefully, we can finish on a high.

00:07:57Not a bad season you've had though.

00:07:58Yeah, consistent.

00:07:59Like you say, we've learnt a lot.

00:08:00It's 18 years since I've edited the car.

00:08:02So, it's nice to be back.

00:08:03And Matt Rapido and Wolf have done a good job this year.

00:08:05So, I'm really excited for next year to put it all into practice to try and win again.

00:08:33It's a good form or whether you're just finding your own form.

00:08:37Yeah, the bike was good when we were here in July.

00:08:39And we hardly touched it, to be fair.

00:08:40A little bit of engine brake and a little bit of preload.

00:08:42But I was surprised to get on the front row.

00:08:44But it's nice.

00:08:45It's the last qualifying session for the AJN Steel Stock Kawasaki squad.

00:08:49As it is with the ZX10 under it.

00:08:51So, yeah, it's nice to put it on the front row.

00:08:54You've had a good season on this thing.

00:08:56You came in below the radar.

00:08:58But we've been impressed almost every weekend.

00:09:00Because we've never really expected you to do that much,

00:09:03based on what you said, before you started the season.

00:09:04But what a season you've had there.

00:09:06Yeah, honestly, it's been great.

00:09:07Since we had a knock-ill test and I found a bit of feeling with the front end and stuff,

00:09:10then I've just really enjoyed working with the...

00:09:12I've enjoyed the bike and I've enjoyed working with the team.

00:09:15So, yeah, it shows it's still got its place in this championship.

00:09:19What you might be enjoying in the next 30 minutes

00:09:21is seeing a British championship unfold right in front of your eyes.

00:09:25Looking forward to that.

00:09:27Yeah.

00:09:28It's a bit of a difficult position for you, really,

00:09:30because you could be riding a mix here.

00:09:31I think the best thing to do from anyone that's not in that position

00:09:34is just to race like normal.

00:09:36Otherwise, you're influencing it.

00:09:38You know, if you don't race with them, you know, Brad needs help, shall we say.

00:09:43So, if you don't race, then you're actually getting involved by not getting involved.

00:09:45So, I think the right thing to do is just race normal

00:09:47and them two can sort it out.

00:10:04I hate doing this when you're in a position you're in now

00:10:06and the nerves are going, how are you?

00:10:09I was better yesterday, a bit worse today.

00:10:11But I did a great qualifying.

00:10:13That's the biggest thing we've done today.

00:10:14Yesterday wasn't the best sort of day.

00:10:18One lap speed was not very good.

00:10:19But, obviously, we did a 24-4 in qualifying.

00:10:22Regardless of what Brad did, it was a good job for myself.

00:10:25No matter what happens now, this has been a classic season.

00:10:28This has been coming between you lads for probably the best part of 20 years

00:10:32since you were kids.

00:10:32We've seen the pictures.

00:10:33It's all gone out this morning.

00:10:35Really cute.

00:10:37But I don't think that makes it any easier for you, does it?

00:10:40You're racing a good mate that you've raced with us for years,

00:12:44Last year, the thrilling last lap that was decided by one point.

00:12:55but Kyle Ryde could go one step closer

00:12:57and have a hand on the trophy,

00:12:59should he beat Brad Ray here today.

00:56:38been for Brad Ray if he could have just wound him in on that last couple of laps there but

00:56:43it rolls on to tomorrow, two races to come here, big question marks about the weather,

00:56:48it is far from a done deal. James has made his way down from the commentary box to join

00:56:53us. Now let's wind it back to the start of the race then fellas because there was a little

00:56:58bit of a concern about a potential jump start for Brad Ray, he definitely didn't get off

00:57:02the line well and that would have been a travesty really if we had seen him lose big points.

00:57:07You don't want to see a championship decided or even half decided by that, it looked like

00:57:11he just had a little bit of a go and then stopped and then went again but no jump starts, that's

00:57:15brilliant. It looked to me in the beginning like when Brad got to the front it was just

00:57:21like he was trying to back him up you know trying to get more people in between but so much in that

00:57:24race that you didn't really know what was going on in the minds of Brad and Kyle but yeah I mean

00:57:31it just felt to me like Brad knew that he needed other people in between and that's what he tried

00:57:37to do and fastest lap of the race the last episode definitely saved something. Yeah well he said in

00:57:42his interview that he thought about trying to break everybody at the beginning John but Kyle

00:57:46was latched on to him and did what he had to do. Yeah exactly as a rider you want to go out there

00:57:51you want to try and break your your competitors you want to give them that that mental just oh no

00:57:57they're going to get me but no he did everything he needed to do at the beginning but right he's

00:58:03ice man he stayed calm he just kept it and you know he did what he needed to do. And he made his

00:58:10pass on Brad as well he took his opportunity to try and ruffle his mate up at the front. Yeah pretty much

00:58:15because I think you know if Brad had managed to maintain that lead obviously when Scott came

00:58:19through he could have responded whereas he took him a while to get past this is uh Kyle coming past

00:58:24and Kyle was riding really well as he has done all year and he kind of puts the pressure back onto uh

00:58:30back onto Brad by getting through again.

00:58:34It's all right saying that he wanted to put time into everybody to show Moseu but he can't afford to do

00:58:38that if Brad cannot afford to do that especially against somebody who he's going to finish every

00:58:42single time like we've seen we've seen Cardo he needs to get people in between you're not going

00:58:46to do that by cleaning up which is why I just thought at the beginning maybe he's backing up a

00:58:50little bit and trying to get somebody because you can when there's a big pack we've seen in BSP

00:58:54don't matter if you're Brad or Kyle or Scott Reddy you can easily end up line second getting passed

00:58:59and ending up eight so I think Brad needs a bit of that now. Yeah but also we've seen occasions this

00:59:03year James where he's got to the front pushed hard and gone down you know Brad you know he's thrown a few

00:59:08points away this season by doing. Yeah he has and you know obviously he's won a lot more races than

00:59:12anyone but obviously he's crashed and uh at the end of the day it's cost him but at the same time

00:59:18I was so impressed the way he rode those last few laps you know like I said he needed to get past.

00:59:21I think he were risking quite a lot there. Yeah he did but he has to. Yeah he's not going to win it any other way so

00:59:28he had to do that and I think one more lap and Scott might have been in trouble because he closed that back

00:59:33in fastest lap of the race you know the final lap of the race really impressive. Reminiscent of Alton

00:59:38Park a couple of weeks ago when he uh when he when he pushed on and got the points there. John for

00:59:42Kyle that's 58 points sorry 58 races now in the points just sum up how difficult it is to be that

00:59:50consistent. It's extremely difficult you know when you're going from track to track conditions you know

00:59:57we've had rain half and half and he's managed to stay consistent through all of that that's the

01:00:03that's the ride of a champion you know he's doing what he needs to do out there and that's going to

01:00:07give him that confidence going into tomorrow. Obviously we don't know what the weather's going to do if

01:00:12it does late that's going to throw up a big mix into it but that right there is going to give him the

01:00:18confidence alone I believe just to uh to do what he needs to do. So if you're Brad Ray tonight then

01:00:24he's doing a bit of a rain dance hoping hoping for a change in the conditions tomorrow. Well I just think it

01:00:29brings in more variables that you can't control so I think you probably are um we know that Kyle can

01:00:34ride good in the wet you know he doesn't always but he mostly does and he's he's proved that he

01:00:39can be as good as anyone in the wet but but also it just it brings in there's a lot of guys that

01:00:43suddenly pop out of nowhere that you haven't seen that are just sort of wet weather guys so

01:00:47it'll be fascinating it looks like for sure we're going to get you know at least one you know wet race

01:00:53and maybe won that one so it's going to be interesting. I personally think that Brad Ray's

01:00:56going to go to bed tonight having done a massive long uh rain dance in his motorhome I think he'll

01:01:01get other people to do it because he needs something fairly special and you're not going to get that

01:02:02Welcome back to Brands Hatch where the Bennett's British Superbike Championship will be decided

01:02:06tomorrow between Brad Ray and Kyle Rad. Leon Haslam came here with an outside chance it was always a very

01:02:11outside chance Leon of winning the title it's not to be this year but you've got to be proud with

01:02:16you with your performance especially you know the latter part of the season yeah obviously

01:02:22i'm over the moon yeah we've had a tough season we've had to learn a lot um yeah last few rounds

01:02:26obviously top scorer but we kind of knew Brands actually is a bit of a bogey track of mine so

01:02:31for me this weekend is trying to bridge the gap to where we know the decay can be obviously scott

01:02:35winning the race we know that decay can be good here uh it's just a few things that we need to sort out

01:02:39but mega season and hopefully next year we can uh put it all into play for another championship

01:02:44i don't know if you're going to be able to hear the boys questions with the sidecars going fast so i'll go with another one

01:02:48seventh today then Leon what was it in particular you feel that you might have been lacking in that pain to scott

01:02:53winning the race i was struggling with the front uh with a massive vibration on the front um we have a

01:02:58good similar pace to them but i'm really struggling to do it lap on lap and we're causing a lot of problems

01:03:03harder to try worse it gets so my natural style of batting the screen is not working around this track

01:03:08well it's just gone quiet you just got time to get injured yeah so your championship's effectively

01:03:12over how do you see the battle at the front unfolding what does brad need to do 20 what is it 27 points

01:03:18in it now he's got to score 28 points more than it yeah there you go now obviously uh they've been mega all

01:03:26year you know and uh two yamars around here is is going to be a mega showdown tomorrow um obviously brand

01:03:32is super quick but you know kyle's right there nipping at his feet so i think when it comes

01:03:36down to it i think we're going to see a bit of bar bashing so i look forward to it and you've got

01:03:39to be well chuffley on as well third in the championship you know we had a really lot in the

01:03:46mid-season um we had a few like average results especially here at brands we had that technical so

01:03:52you know we've learned so much we actually found a really good base astronaut and uh we still need to

01:03:56rectify this circuit i think we've actually learned a lot this year and uh we've got the new ducati coming

01:04:01next year and we can put it on to play how do you find working with wilk and the crew at motorapita

01:04:09for me honestly it was one of the best most efficiently working teams it was like the least

01:04:14staff yeah but it was one of the best how do you so um it goes under the radar as well you know

01:04:19well so clever um the effort the knowledge you know i've always got a bit of rider that kind of

01:04:27over exaggerates a problem and kicked off a lot and he actually invites that which i'm having to

01:04:31turn all what i've learned and just give it to him and he responds so well and uh any given weekend

01:04:37we've always made it better by sunday so yeah it's mega yeah i i can imagine you guys are going to be

01:04:42strong next year and uh it's good to see it can't wait come on we'll see you tomorrow leon well done

01:04:57stuck in talk us through your race honestly really happy with it you know coming into this weekend i

01:05:02didn't know how my head was going to be after smacking it open park and i thought it'd be all

01:05:06right but i didn't expect to be running in the well with the championship contenders there and

01:05:10honestly i felt quite comfortable just once the tires started to drop at the end i really

01:05:13struggled to hang with them and having done nothing for the last two weeks to try and manage the

01:05:16concussion i kind of got a bit of arm to arm pump towards the end of the race but yeah really happy

01:05:21with how that went cheshire moulton gucati team have been excellent this weekend and yeah feeling really

01:05:26competitive which is nice it's great to see you back rory and just tell us about how you've been

01:05:30feeling in that sort of recovery like you say you've taken two weeks out and getting on a 230 brake

01:05:36horsepower superbike uh isn't a mean feat so how are you feeling after that bit of bit of break um yeah i

01:05:43think i was in my bed at about seven o'clock half seven last night i needed a good sleep after a

01:05:47day of riding a superbike but yeah that's what concussion is you know it slows everything down

01:05:50a little bit even tuesday this week i wasn't really sure if i was going to be able to get out i've taken

01:05:54my mountain bike out for a quick spin had a pedal and it felt okay so yeah at that point i thought i

01:05:59might be okay but yeah 20 laps around brands hatch at race pace on a british superbike is uh it's pretty

01:06:03pretty hectic but very happy to bring it home and forth it's great to see you and yeah feeling

01:06:08good to get stuck in for tomorrow as well definitely looking forward to tomorrow's two races fourth on the grid for this

01:06:12next one so yeah excited for it good luck for it rory thank you thank you very much yeah it'd be nice to

01:06:18see rory finish the season off strongly after an up and down year we've got ben curry joining us now

01:06:23who will be fighting all the way to the end for the british supersport championship tomorrow we know

01:06:28that ben we know you're a fighter you've been there and done it before as well 12 points behind reese

01:06:32erwin after today's result how do you reflect on on the sprint race earlier yeah obviously it wasn't um

01:06:39objective complete let's say we needed to beat reese for sure um but this weekend we've

01:06:44i mean sort of the story all year we've been lacking maybe three four tenths i would say

01:06:50sort of pretty consistently everywhere we go but we seem to make a race of it um today i absolutely

01:06:56left everything on the table um and i gave it my all and it just wasn't enough i thought i'd

01:07:02i'd done enough on the last lap to get the perfect drive onto the back straight and pull out of the

01:07:07slipstream and yeah he made a big pass on me into uh westfield's and i saw him last second but you

01:07:15can kind of see there when i level him i've got to chop his nose a little bit because it actually

01:07:19started to come back on me the suzuki a little bit there and he sort of drives back underneath me there

01:07:26because i go a little bit deep and um that's sort of the story around here it seems to drive

01:07:30unbelievable third fourth gear the suzuki on the edge of the tire where i saw a spin a little bit

01:07:34on the pentagon i was just watching scott there through sector three he has the same problem on

01:07:39the on the v4 so it's a ducati thing but yeah i can uh hold my head up high and say i left nothing

01:07:46out there and uh yeah a bit disappointed obviously but we're still alive 12 points and let's see what we

01:07:52can do tomorrow no complaints about the move from reese sorry it's a hard pass from reese but no

01:07:57complaints from you i mean some people wouldn't see that pass coming probably but you've got to

01:08:02expect it don't you when you're fighting for a championship um it's going to be a hard race all

01:08:06the time so it's fine it's how it is you know there's no uh hard feelings let's say obviously

01:08:11disappointed from my point of view and um you know you can get you can get you can get angry but

01:08:17sometimes you've got to remember we're all in i'd do the exact same to him so um yeah it is what it

01:08:22is it'd be nice to make it two british championships tomorrow um you know it's a dream of mine to come

01:08:27to the last round and battle battle to the last race and and and clench it um let's say so let's

01:08:34see we're still alive there's some weather coming in so a bit more risk tomorrow might be really good

01:08:39when you've got a 12 point lead in the championship you grip the handlebars a little tighter don't you so

01:08:43yeah i was just gonna ask you you are exceptional in any kind of other than dry you know you're good

01:08:48in the dry but if it's anything in between a tire choice wet in between wet and dry starting a wet

01:08:55you seem to just have a little bit of pace there are you you wanting rain tomorrow are you wanting

01:08:59it to be wet tomorrow i want it to be wet yeah definitely obviously i have a little bit of an edge

01:09:05in the wet um but there's also some really fast boys in the wet which is also very good because we

01:09:10need some guys in between us tomorrow so joe talbot i expect him to be up there and um reese is

01:09:15actually very good in the way as well so but like i say 12 point lead overnight he'll have a he'll have

01:09:22a tough time sleeping so i've been there um let's see um hopefully we have a we have a shot it's a long

01:09:29shot but we'll have a crack you've certainly got a shot we'll look forward to that tomorrow cheers

01:09:34boys and our fifth position man danny kent you look to be going really well in that race danny

01:09:44how was it for you yeah it was uh was a decent race you know i made things hard with my first

01:09:49couple laps um you know maybe i was a bit rusty obviously missing alton park made things um i just

01:09:54felt a bit rusty the opening laps i wasn't aggressive enough and i just lost the pack but

01:09:58um no we got some good valuable data um there's a small change i feel we need to make a change for

01:10:03tomorrow but we can get that sort i feel like we can be stronger and in terms of changes for tomorrow

01:10:08the weather looks to be changing as well you've had a lot of success here in the wet at brands hatch

01:10:13how are you feeling going into tomorrow yeah i feel good like i said uh first of all we just need

01:10:17to wake up look open the windows and see what the weather's going to be and uh we'll make a plan

01:10:21from there good luck for it danny thank you he won't be the only one doing that i'm sure kyle and

01:10:27brad tomorrow morning will be opening those curtains on the camper with a little bit of trepidation

01:10:31let's see what it holds for you brad are you actually thinking i wouldn't mind a little bit of

01:10:36rain tomorrow here or there and mix things up a little bit it's going to be interesting i think

01:10:42weather conditions are going to be a bit tricky for for everyone tomorrow there's obviously two races to

01:10:47go we haven't had no wet time all weekend um straight into a wet race around here will be

01:10:53difficult especially when there's a lot on the line but uh yeah wet or dry i just want to want

01:10:58to enjoy the last two races and uh try and try and give the fight to kyle how about you kyle obviously

01:11:04you're going to want it dry you've been so consistent this year haven't you and that's what you got to

01:11:07be tomorrow yeah uh a few months ago if it was a wet day i would be very nervous for tomorrow but

01:11:13recently the wet weather's riding for myself it's been a lot better so whatever we get chucked

01:11:17tomorrow um hopefully it'll be all right but like brad said anything that can happen with bike racing

01:11:22uh we've both put ourselves in a great position to have a chance of winning on on sunday at branzach so

01:11:28yeah just proud of ourselves really for forgetting this far for me honestly i know you're best of

01:11:34friends and i almost want this season to continue maybe just stop it and then start it again next year

01:11:39and let it just run its course however if how are you brad you need something fairly special to

01:11:45happen and again somebody who's been super consistent even though you've had generally

01:11:48at the pace but you're in mind or be a bad thing for you no i'm just thinking yeah that's it i mean

01:11:55anything can happen in my racing obviously it just happens a bit more in the way in the wet yeah so

01:12:01my objective obviously if i if i'm gonna have a chance to try and beat kyle to the championship then i'm

01:12:05gonna i'm gonna have to try my best to win win both races or at least be uh at least be trying to

01:12:10win both races tomorrow yeah you don't you don't want to see anything unfortunate happen um tomorrow

01:12:15but um kyle's rode a phenomenal season this year uh very consistent fast every track and uh i think

01:12:22we both we both stepped up the game this year in the championship and um yeah may the best man win

01:12:28tomorrow but we've we've both done a good job gentlemen that's what yeah a couple of beers

01:12:32tomorrow either way after exactly yeah well one one for well yeah regardless of what happens we'll

01:12:39both roll into next season as fast riders and we'll we'll go again good stuff lads sleep well
