00:00Did the AEW WrestleDream main event go too far?
00:05Plus, Mercedes-Benz Mane wins her 12th championship
00:10and a WWE New Generation Era star has passed away.
00:14It's all in the Cultaholic Wrestling News right now.
00:18AEW went on and booked a banger of a show on Saturday night in WrestleDream.
00:23What a dream it was, although for someone it was a little bit of a nightmare.
00:27Mmm, that's someone being Jon Moxley, who tapped out in the Scorpion Deathlock
00:31whilst surrounded by water and shards of glass from Fishtank.
00:35Yeah, that main event was especially aggressive.
00:40Of all the things that they did, the spots with numerous weapons,
00:46the finish and the choking and the voguing,
00:48for me, it was the bit where Darby Allin had his finger
00:53and Jon Moxley put the skewer under his nail.
01:00It's the bits, it's like when they whap out the Lego in wrestling
01:02and they step on the Lego back in the day.
01:05It's the bits that you can relate to in real life
01:07because we can't relate to some of the stuff they do in the wrestling,
01:09but we can relate to a skewer under the fingernail.
01:11Oh, I can relate to that, jeez.
01:12But the spot that caused the most ire online
01:15was where Darby Allin was being drowned in a fish tank by Jon Moxley
01:21and a former AEW talent has spoken out very much against it.
01:25Yeah, former AEW coach Sarah Stock got the little clip on Twitter.
01:28She quote tweeted it saying she was going to chase the channel
01:31and this is worse than the plastic bag over the head.
01:34Kids are going to end up dead trying this stuff at home.
01:37There's two things I would say to that.
01:38It was like midnight when the fish thing happened.
01:41So the kids are surely in bed by then
01:43unless they've got irresponsible and maybe even radically cool parents.
01:46Let them stay up that late.
01:48And also, AEW is not exactly marketed for the kids, is it?
01:51It's not.
01:51I mean, some people have argued,
01:53well, there were kids in the crowd that night.
01:54So obviously, you know, kids attend AEW shows.
01:58I think Darby Allin high-fived a lad on the way out
02:00from that very aggressive match.
02:03And this kind of went on a lot.
02:04Sarah Stock really got very aggressive about this one.
02:08Somebody downplayed the spot as being dumb
02:10and Sarah hit back saying,
02:11yes, anytime I see attempted, unaliving, hello YouTube,
02:15wrestling without a disclaimer,
02:17regardless of the company,
02:19my opinion remains the same.
02:21It's dumb.
02:22It also led to a reaction from Amanda Huber,
02:25the widow of Brodie Lee.
02:27So yeah, it's apparently,
02:28well, it's not apparently,
02:29it is the responsibility of the parent
02:31to educate the kids on what to do and what not to do.
02:33So maybe if they see someone trying to drown someone in a fish tank,
02:36don't do that, son.
02:37Yeah, that's the big thing that comes away from it is,
02:40you know, there's a lot of aggressive things
02:41that happened in that match.
02:43And it was kind of forced to the parents to go,
02:45yeah, don't do that to people in school.
02:48And I think that,
02:49but the argument is from Sarah Stock
02:51is that the one thing that AEW doesn't have,
02:54that WWE has, is disclaimers.
02:57And the more I think about it,
02:58the more I think, actually,
02:59I don't see any disclaimers that,
03:02and not that a disclaimer ever stopped me
03:04from power bombing my brother onto the bed.
03:07Don't get me wrong.
03:08But there, but WWE always had those
03:10don't try this at home things going on.
03:12Don't see those in AEW,
03:13I guess because it's aimed at an older audience
03:14and they don't feel the need to.
03:16But I think regardless of whether you're aiming it
03:17at an older audience,
03:18it is still being seen by a younger audience.
03:20Yeah.
03:20And I think that's probably the concern
03:22that Sarah's showing there.
03:23But then obviously people were messaging back,
03:25so they were showing pictures of Sarah in TNA
03:28choking somebody with a tyre going,
03:30oh, and this is all right then,
03:31is it still on television?
03:32So there's a lot to come out of all of this.
03:36Surely if you know you're watching
03:37a professional wrestling show,
03:38it's in the confines of professional wrestling.
03:40Don't try this at home.
03:41That's the overriding message of a sleeper hold,
03:44isn't it, for goodness sake?
03:45Or a punch.
03:46Because that's it,
03:46because Sarah was quote tweeting people saying,
03:48if I DDT'd a kid when I was at school,
03:51I'd give them a concussion.
03:52And she went, yes, you're right.
03:54So what, just don't do any wrestling moves ever?
03:56Is that the takeaway there?
03:58I think that, I mean, you know,
04:00it shouldn't come to Ross and I to say this,
04:04but if you are a youngster watching this,
04:07we're going to ask you very politely
04:08to not attempt to drown friends and family at home.
04:12Do not try them at home.
04:13I mean, when I was nine watching Triple H
04:15hop in a coffin with Katie Vick,
04:17I didn't think to myself,
04:18you know what, nine-year-old Ross,
04:20I quite fancy a slice of that.
04:22Just as well.
04:23Thank goodness those news reports weren't true.
04:26We'll keep an eye on that one.
04:28No doubt this is going to be a conversation
04:29that happens a lot.
04:30And there's been already had a lot of discussion online
04:32about the raw nature of the aggression in that match.
04:35And we'll let you know more
04:36when we know more at cultaholic.com.
04:37But I would add the context as well.
04:39Moxley and Diver Wilson,
04:40I'm not going to quit in the days before the match.
04:42So this kind of thing is to be expected, surely.
04:45And that's a good shout, actually.
04:46It wasn't like a regular moment in a regular spot
04:49as part of a regular match.
04:51This was the last match of the night
04:52that was starting at midnight.
04:54It was deliberately put on last for a number of reasons.
04:57I think, one, because obviously there's a lot of water involved.
04:59You're normally wrestling when the ring's all wet afterwards.
05:02Two, it's probably the most violent crescendo
05:05to any match on the evening.
05:06So it probably makes sense to give it the final bit.
05:08Three, obviously, with the nature of it,
05:11you put it on after midnight.
05:12So hopefully less kids see it.
05:14And also, the Athletic Commission in the state
05:17are very cautious on what happens.
05:19And there's probably a nervousness about,
05:21what if they just shut us down midway through this match?
05:24Well, at least it's the main event, then.
05:25You can at least do that.
05:26None of that happened, of course.
05:28What a great bit of publicity that would have been.
05:30A match too gnarly for the commission.
05:31It was shut down before it ended.
05:32Too gnarly.
05:33Yeah, cowabunga.
05:35There'll be no doubt a lot of discourse online about that today.
05:38And about this, Mercedes-Benz.
05:41She won the interim Ring of Honor Women's TV title
05:43at WrestleDream.
05:45And then the following night, she went and did it again.
05:48Yeah, she was facing Jodie Threat up in Canada,
05:51which is up there in the north.
05:54My goodness me.
05:55She got the Winnipeg Pro Wrestling Women's Champion.
05:58Like you've just discovered Canada.
06:00Yeah.
06:00My goodness me.
06:02I am Captain Canada.
06:04Anyway, she's won now the Winnipeg Pro Wrestling Women's Championship
06:07to win her 12th championship.
06:10It's up in the air if two of them even count.
06:12I've been seeing this discourse online.
06:14But she does have 12 physical title belts now on her being.
06:17She has 12 titles.
06:18The AEW TBS title, the Owen Hart Tournament Winners title,
06:23the interim CMLL Women's title, the Body Slam Women's title,
06:25the Ring of Honor Women's TV title.
06:28Sorry, it was the interim Ring of Honor Women's TV title.
06:29I've written that down wrong.
06:31She defo the CMLL Women's Champion.
06:33Discovery Wrestling Women's title, the EWA Women's title,
06:36the Rev Pro Undisputed British title,
06:38and the Queen of Southside Women's title,
06:40which was a defunct promotion that Rev Pro took in.
06:43The belt is kind of defended the same way,
06:45but represented separately.
06:47Andy Corden did a thing with me and talked to me all about it.
06:49Primetime Wrestling Women's title,
06:50the Best Year Women's title,
06:52and now the Winnipeg Pro Wrestling Women's title as well.
06:55That's lots, that.
06:56That's a lot of belts.
06:57She's running out of staff to carry the belts with her.
07:00At Winnipeg, at the Winnipeg show,
07:02they had all the security guys and all the trainees and stuff
07:07who were there to help marshal the show were there,
07:09but they didn't have enough,
07:10so they had a couple of referees holding the belts as well.
07:12I like that.
07:13That was good fun.
07:14So, the belt collector thing that Altimo Monet is doing,
07:20I don't hate it.
07:22Me neither.
07:23It's a good visual, isn't it?
07:24How many years has it been since we've seen someone
07:26with that many titles?
07:27You go back to Austin Aries,
07:30that's a great name to bring up in 2025.
07:34What a laugh he was, eh?
07:37Obviously, Altimo Dragon has done something similar.
07:40Since Altimo Dragon, how many has there been?
07:42Since Altimo, and also the Altimo Dragon thing as well,
07:46a lot of those belts were classed as one belt.
07:48Yeah.
07:48So, technically, he only had two.
07:50What a loser.
07:51But I don't hate it.
07:54I think it's a great way of shining a spotlight
07:56on certain promotions.
07:58Obviously, you go, but how?
07:59You get one twelfth of the spotlight,
08:01but that's one twelfth more than they would have normally got.
08:03My only concern, my only concern is,
08:05I genuinely think that Mercedes-Benz,
08:06and I think there'll be people that will argue
08:08the toss out of this,
08:10I think Mercedes-Benz will be the kind of person
08:12that will go back, defend that title,
08:13and lose that title when they need to,
08:15when the time is right.
08:16It's a great story to tell of how, like,
08:18in the space of maybe two or three months,
08:19she loses every single title.
08:20It's just the downfall of Monet.
08:22Yeah, and you're watching the match on Saturday night,
08:24and there was a couple of moments
08:24where she was losing her bananas.
08:26She was getting a bit like,
08:27oh my goodness, I can't quite get this done,
08:29so maybe the downfall is already starting.
08:31Potentially.
08:32The only other issue that might come from this is,
08:36and hopefully it doesn't happen,
08:37because in the event, like,
08:38should Mercedes-Benz sustain some kind of injury in a match?
08:41That's 12 titles that all of a sudden you've got to...
08:45Vacate.
08:46Vacate.
08:46What a day that would be for vacant.
08:48Get the old head wig back in the game,
08:50just fly them back to each promotion around the world.
08:53That would be amazing.
08:55Oh, the owls are flying.
08:56Oh no, what's happened to Mercedes?
08:58They're flying.
08:58But yeah, another one added to the locket
09:00of Mercedes-Benz over the weekend, too, that is.
09:03That's ludicrous.
09:04We're going to end on this one.
09:05Some sad news to share with you this morning,
09:07but we want to celebrate the life and times of...
09:10The news broke last night.
09:11The former WWE Tag Team Champion,
09:13Sir Moe, real name Robert Horn,
09:16has passed away at the age of 58 years old.
09:19Yeah, he had been dealing with health issues
09:21since early 2022,
09:22and hospitalised in mid-July,
09:23undergoing major surgery,
09:25which resulted in 12 inches of his small intestine
09:27and two inches of his large intestine being removed.
09:30Moe was discharged from hospital shortly after the surgery,
09:33but he was hospitalised again in early August.
09:35He remained in and out of intensive care
09:36until his passing.
09:37So Bobby Horn started his pro wrestling career in 1991.
09:42He had a couple of enhancement matches for WWE,
09:44and then he began teaming with Nelson Fraser,
09:46the late Mabel,
09:48and Men on a Mission was born.
09:51When you look at the pre-attitude era of WWF,
09:54the new generation era,
09:55Men on a Mission are a big part of that story.
09:58They did have a WWF Tag Team title reign
10:01that is somewhat contested.
10:02It was at a house show where they weren't meant to win,
10:04but they did anyway.
10:05Then they flipped it back.
10:06It still counted.
10:07It was still a thing.
10:09He was going to be part of the Nation of Domination
10:11when they got called up to the main WWF roster,
10:14because he was doing the Nation of Domination thing
10:16elsewhere in USWA,
10:18Sir Mohamed.
10:19But when they brought the Nation up to the WWF,
10:22he wasn't part of it,
10:23which is a shame.
10:24That would have been a different vibe, wouldn't it,
10:25with the raps and whatnot?
10:26Yeah, very different vibe.
10:28He remained involved in pro wrestling
10:30right until the end of his life,
10:31running the Soar Wrestling School since 2016,
10:35and also part of a major team,
10:38a network of wrestling promotions all around the country.
10:42Sir Mohamed had a real strong passion
10:44for Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
10:46How and why?
10:47Through Contract Wrestling Academy based in Bedlington.
10:52The brilliant team that worked there,
10:54worked with Soar and the OIWA,
10:58the complete network of wrestling promotions
11:01all over the world.
11:03And look, just here's a photo of Samo
11:06at Monument in town.
11:08Just, I love that so much.
11:09I love the fact that Samo got to experience Geordie Land,
11:12which is great.
11:13And just very much somebody that gave so much to the industry.
11:16Everybody that I've spoken to who got to work with him
11:18just said what a lovely guy he was.
11:20And so we wanted to take a moment today
11:21and pay homage to the late, great Samo.
11:25Bobby, we love you.
11:26And we'll see you on the next one.
11:28For the very latest wrestling news at any time,
