00:00In Ecuador, the social struggle continues.
00:03Every day, more citizens reject the policies of Daniel Novoa's government,
00:07and new protest groups are even joining the fight.
00:10On Wednesday, anti-mining activists announced their full support for the national strike.
00:15Our colleague Gabriela Mena tells us more in the following reports.
00:19Ecuador has become the scene of multiple protests in all provinces.
00:25Citizens, organizations, and unions reject the measures of Daniel Novoa's government.
00:30Social organizations emphasize that they will not stop
00:33until the executive withdraws the policies that affect the most vulnerable sectors of the country.
00:38On Wednesday alone, members of the anti-mining front protested
00:41to reiterate their rejection of mining projects.
00:47That is why we have remained firm in the struggle, in the fight for our resistance,
00:51and we will not allow the whims of a rich child to punish our lands.
00:55Environmental groups join this day of protests.
01:02They argue that the government has been working to promote the reopening of the Castro Mining Company
01:06with a view to benefiting the elites and foreign companies, rather than the communities,
01:10and the impact that mining has on the health of the community members.
01:12Because they are not listening to us within the law,
01:20but when we raise our voices, it is the only way for them to hear us.
01:25There are only two sides here those who have power and money, like the government,
01:28and us, who have no money, and the only thing we know how to do, is raise our voices.
01:34Unlike what the government has said, that we are armed, that we are terrorists,
01:37we only have our voice, and it is our only weapon.
01:45The anti-mining collective filed an extraordinary protection action
01:48with the Constitutional Court in Defense of the Territory
01:50against the advance of the La Plata Mining Project
01:52by the Canadian company, Attico Mining.
01:54The document was supported by several citizens who reject the criminalization against them.
01:58We clearly do not need mining.
02:04The only one who needs mining is Daniel Nobov to line his own pockets.
02:08That is the only purpose.
02:10We are here in a people's struggle.
02:12That is the only purpose, 100 peaceful,
02:14not like the government labels us as terrorists.
02:16As you can see, we bring banners, and our only weapon is our voice.
02:20The weapon that we have is our voice.
02:22Meanwhile, the capital and its surroundings look like this,
02:29blocked and with protesters continuing to demand their right to free speech
02:32against Daniel Nobov as measures.
02:34Under slogans such as Nobov, listen, the people are fighting,
02:37and this is resistance, it is not paid for, it is the people organized.
02:41Every day more citizens in Ecuador join the marches against the executive.
02:44The more citizens in Ecuador
02:45se suman a la marcha contra el Ejecutivo.
02:48Gabriela Mena, Telesur Ecuador.
