Security was reinforced outside Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s official residence in Patna on Tuesday after multiple JD(U) leaders and workers staged a protest over being denied tickets for the upcoming Assembly elections. Police and security personnel cordoned off the area with ropes to control the crowd, but several party members continued to gather and held sit-ins outside the Chief Minister’s residence.
00:00Big news coming in from Bihar. The Chief Minister's residence in Patna, that is Nitish Kumar's residence, has been cordoned off.
00:09The security personnel have cordoned off the area outside the Chief Minister's house with ropes.
00:16This is because many leaders and their supporters, their workers, they have gathered over there.
00:22They are angry over ticket cancellations and they are arriving at the Chief Minister's residence and they are staging dharna, some of them.
00:28Gopal Mandel, he is an MLA, he is still sitting at a dharna and he is protesting outside the Chief Minister's residence.
00:38He is an MLA of the JDU itself.
00:42There are several workers from Kurtha, Nabi Nagar, Darbhanga that have arrived at the Chief Minister's residence and are protesting.
00:50All these workers have now started protesting outside Nitish Kumar's residence.
00:55Let's listen to what Gopal Mandel said on Nitish Kumar.
01:00Joining us now is India Today's Rohit Singh. Rohit, how should we view this and analyse this?
01:22Could this be a pressure tactic created by the party itself to show that people are upset, their workers are upset?
01:30Because we all know there is a huge tussle right now which is ongoing between Chirag Baswan and Nitish Kumar over key seats?
01:37Well, yes, there is a rift which is being seen in the NDA as far as Nitish Kumar and Chirag Baswan is concerned when Chirag Baswan has taken claim on several seats of the JDU where the JDU has sitting MLA's.
01:56But there are also few MLAs of Jantadal United whose tickets have been cut, means they have been denied tickets.
02:03So those leaders, those candidate people have started and coming at the residence of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
02:12This is behind me, you can see, is one Ani Magh, the official residence of the Chief Minister.
02:17And this entire area has now been cordoned off because a few hours earlier, Gopal Mandel is, right now you can see in the pictures also,
02:26he's sitting on a protest outside the Chief Minister's residence.
02:29But he is not only alone here because there are also workers and leaders from several other Assembly constituencies whose tickets have been cut.
02:38They are also sitting on a protest here outside the Chief Minister's residence and seeing the kind of happening,
02:47that development that is taking place outside the Chief Minister's residence and keeping the law and order situation in mind.
02:52This entire area now has been cordoned off with a rope and the security has also been beefed up outside the Chief Minister's residence.
03:01You can see here pictures that massive security deployment has been put in place here outside the Chief Minister's residence.
03:09This is apart from the regular security measures on security personnel who are always present at the CM House.
03:16So there is going to be this kind of a protest which will be witnessed in the days to come
03:20because a lot of MLAs have been denied tickets and obviously they are feeling the pressure.
03:26They are going to come out with their behaviour.
03:32They are trying to show that they are angry.
03:34They are sitting on a protest.
03:35They are upset.
03:36They are angry with the Chief Minister and that is why we are seeing that not only sitting legislators
03:41but also the party supporters are right now outside the CM House and are protesting here.
