00:00Bro, you're going to have a hard time being kind and rewinding if that tape is in the upside down.
00:04Here's your look at the VHS Star Stranger Things 11 vs. Demogorgon Collectible Diorama.
00:24Relive one of Stranger Things' most unforgettable moments,
00:26the Stranger Things VHS diorama 11 vs. Demogorgon transforms from a vintage VHS tape into a detailed 3D scene of the iconic classroom battle,
00:36featuring 11 and Demogorgon figures plus five scene-setting accessories, including table, stool, microscope, slingshot, and trash can.
00:44One good thing, at least about this video, is that you guys are all going to be front and center. No nosebleed seats here.
00:49Let's take the tape measure and see how tall, first of all, the VHS case is before we bring in all the elements that go inside of it.
00:55There's a big fatal flaw, at least to this release, and we're going to talk about it extensively.
01:00But first things first, let's take the tape measure and see how big it actually is.
01:03The Wilder Toys, by the way, Stranger Things VHS Stars 11 and Demogorgon, I found at my local Walmart.
01:08I have those scene listings on places like Big Bad Toy Store, and it's actually going to be selling for $29.99.
01:14The VHS tape, though, is going to be 7 inches in height, or working out to be about 18 centimeters tall.
01:20As for its width, though, I think it's about a standard size VHS.
01:23It's about 4 inches in width, or roughly about 10 centimeters wide.
01:28I guess for the things that go inside, they're not that bad.
01:30You get the Demogorgon, you get 11, and then you get various things that be scattered all across the classroom.
01:35The actual tape itself, again, is a good-sized VHS tape.
01:38I feel like, if anything, it's probably just a little bit higher than a VHS, and it also has just a little bit more weight.
01:44On the front, though, it does have Stranger Things with a nice worn-away label, so it looks like it's aged.
01:50It isn't see-through, though, but it sort of gets the gist across that they actually have a tape inside there that would go from one side to the other.
01:57And, of course, you rewind it back again.
01:59There's nothing here on the front.
02:01On the back side, this would be the part, by the way, you'd flick up.
02:04If you were a kid that ran the days of VHS and VCRs, you would know that you probably, a lot of times, would have to flick this up
02:10if you got, like, a tape that got crimped, and you'd have to kind of spool it yourself to try to get over past that mess.
02:16I'd had several VHS tapes that actually got jammed inside my VCR as a kid.
02:21It does also say Stranger Things on the back.
02:22It says Wild 002, relating, I'm sure, to more wilder toys.
02:27And it also says Netflix used with permission.
02:30I do kind of wish that the back could have been colored in white or something, but other than that, it's, you know, it's, again, a good VHS tape, I suppose.
02:36It recreates what it needs to do, and what it needs to also do, it needs to open up.
02:40This is not something that I've noticed opens on its own.
02:43There's a little slit right here that you almost need yourself to take a coin or something of a somewhat good size.
02:49What I end up, just end up doing is I took myself the telescope here, and the microscope, I should say,
02:54and there's a little lip just on the bottom where the stand is.
02:57You have to put in this, and you have to depress the little button inside to release this.
03:01Without that, though, there doesn't seem to be a way that I can see that you can open up the case.
03:05So we're just going to take the stand from the microscope, not telescope, you ninny, and just pop that in, just to open this up.
03:12And when you open it up, what you get basically inside is you get yourself the class.
03:16So you have the flooring.
03:18Let's see if I can lock this in place.
03:20You get the flooring that has a peg right here.
03:22That's going to be where 11 is going to be standing.
03:23Then in the back, you've got a peg against the chalkboard.
03:26That's where the Demogorgon is going to be levitating.
03:29You've got yourself a mobile TV stand that looks like it's got a VCR.
03:32You've got a TV right there.
03:33You've got the clock.
03:35You've also got yourself the speaker also.
03:38And it looks like there's, I don't know if that's a plug down below, or maybe that's just ventilation.
03:43I mean, it's okay.
03:44It does what it needs to do, I suppose.
03:46Here's my big issue with this.
03:48And even actually, if you look at listings of this online,
03:50they even say in the listings that all the accessories that you get right here,
03:54these are fun-looking accessories,
03:56they all sit inside when you have it displayed.
03:58But you can't close the case when all these things are already inside the case.
04:03So if this is something that you thought to yourself,
04:05hey, this is cool.
04:05This kind of reminds me of, I don't know, like Polly Pocket.
04:09What was another one that was about that size?
04:11Johnny Quest?
04:12I think Johnny Quest may have had that.
04:14No, it wasn't Johnny Quest.
04:15The ones that, of course, you open up like this and would have things that would go inside.
04:19The whole idea of this is it's supposed to be something that you can take on the go.
04:22So you just fold it up.
04:23Mighty Max.
04:24Mighty Max.
04:25Just take it on the go.
04:26You'd be able to open it up.
04:27And then you'd basically just be able to lay out your diorama.
04:29You can't really do that.
04:31Before we actually do anything, though, I did want to show you guys the accessories.
04:34So you get yourself a tabletop.
04:36Wooden links down below here.
04:39None of these, by the way, also attach where they securely, like there's no designated space.
04:43And when you move things around, like if you bang the case, you'll find, especially even at the beginning's video, you notice like the stool just rolled away, away from itself.
04:52The stool doesn't, again, have a place that has to go, okay, it has to go here.
04:55It has to go specifically here.
04:57I guess if you wanted to, you could also have it against the tabletop.
05:00But I kind of sort of went with the image that they had on the back of the box.
05:03So like the stool, stool basically just sits along the floor and just, it's going to move around no matter how you try to control it.
05:10You get also a slingshot.
05:13The slingshot, I wouldn't say, is really size accurate, too.
05:16I mean, if you like look at 11, okay, maybe it's about the same size.
05:20It doesn't do anything, though.
05:21I mean, she doesn't, first of all, have the means to hold it.
05:23She doesn't have any posability at all, either.
05:26So I just took the slingshot, and I just put it on the tabletop.
05:29Take the microscope.
05:30Again, same idea.
05:31Microscope doesn't really have any paint to it.
05:33It's just only been molded here in all gray plastic.
05:36And then, again, that's just going to go right on the tabletop.
05:39You're probably sort of seeing a trend starting to happen here.
05:42All the things that you get here, including this weird, strange garbage can, it looks like it's actually got a block of cheddar cheese sitting inside of it.
05:48A block of cheddar cheese and what looks almost to be like a single Pringles chip sitting inside of a pail of gravy.
05:56Ooh, you need to get into marketing.
05:58The garbage can, though, again, it doesn't do anything.
06:01You're just laying it on the floor.
06:02I'm not paying the camera.
06:03You're just laying it on the floor, and then you have to place 11 in front on that peg and then the Demogorgon in the back.
06:0911's detailing is okay, I suppose.
06:12I mean, she's more of a rubbery figure in the sense that her lower legs are very rubbery.
06:18The top of her torso doesn't really do all that much.
06:21What she's doing is what she's going to be doing for the rest of the time that you have this on display.
06:26I guess the likeness is it's good enough for the size that she is.
06:29She has, of course, the long jacket there as well, the pink dress underneath.
06:33It's painted well enough.
06:34I mean, again, like they even took the time to go in there and paint the tops of the stripes of the socks and paint the little band of red there in her shoes.
06:41She does have the pegs for obvious reasons, because there's the peg right there on the front of the flooring.
06:46So she essentially just plugs in here.
06:48I guess probably what I should have really done is moved all the things out of the way first.
06:52Picked up this, and again, when it comes to 11, you're going to just attach her onto this display stand.
06:56And it's probably also a good idea, too, that I removed all the other things as well, because I wanted to show you.
07:02So the Demogorgon, how he works is the Demogorgon, again, his arms are being pinned back against the wall because, again, 11 is using her powers against him.
07:11There's a hole in the back of his body.
07:13So that's going to plug onto the top of the chalkboard here.
07:17And again, like the Demogorgon looks just like 11.
07:19It's good for what it is.
07:20It's good for the size it needs to be.
07:23I do like that the inside pedals do have the individual kind of blade, the little spiked teeth on the inside.
07:28I mean, it's okay.
07:29I mean, it's not, it's not a, I've seen worse painted Demogorgons, but it doesn't have any posability.
07:34It's just a rubbery, I don't even want to say it's a bendy figure either, because there's no frame built inside the body.
07:39So what it's doing, again, is all it's going to do.
07:41And that just attaches onto the back.
07:44So there is a peg right here, and you just plug the Demogorgon onto that, just like that.
07:50Now, already, the way that I've got this set up, and I've done this deliberately where I can't, I didn't put any extra pieces back in there.
07:57The way it's set up right now, there's no way you can close it, obviously.
08:01Demogorgon's head is sticking way past the point of the actual frame of the case, and 11 obviously is standing up, so there's no real way to do this.
08:07Let's say, just say, you want to take 11, and you want to take the Demogorgon.
08:11The Demogorgon will not fit in the case properly.
08:14There's no way.
08:15There's no way at all you can close it at all.
08:17Think of how failed this is.
08:20I mean, again, like, they had good ideas.
08:22But I think, really, if you're going to make yourself like a case diorama like this, all the accessories should be something that sits inside the case, and you can fold it up.
08:30The whole point of me being portable dioramas, even though I'm kind of interjecting and adding portability to these, but if you're going to have a case that opens up and then plays out a scene,
08:39most people tend to think, then, that the scenes, you can just fold them up when you're done.
08:44You put all the accessories back in, and like a Mighty Max, like a Polly Pocket, you'd be able to fold it up.
08:49You'd be able to put the case in your pocket and carry it where you need to go.
08:52But it doesn't work that way.
08:54And I feel like that's the thing that really affects this the most.
08:57I think they've done other things as well.
08:59I just happened to find this one at my local Walmart.
09:01But I really do feel like it needed to be designed in a way that you would be able to take it to travel.
09:06You'd be able to take it on the go.
09:07The only way it really does work, if I put everything down here, you have to kind of keep the case always with you.
09:13The box, you have to take all the accessories, put them all back in the tray.
09:17Okay, take the stool.
09:19Where's the stool?
09:19Goes over here.
09:20You have to put everything back in the tray, everything back in the box, if you ever want to take this to a friend's house.
09:26Think of that as the option, or think of the option of having everything smaller in size.
09:30So if 11 was a little bit smaller, the Demogorgon was tinier in size.
09:34And like all of these were shrunk down by even just a half.
09:38I feel like that may have been enough to fit everything in here and then be able to close up shop when you're done.
09:43Because right now, you can't do that.
09:46Anyways, let's get the rest of the accessories all going here.
09:48So again, like the Demogorgon is going to plug on to the back, just like that.
09:53Again, like if the Demogorgon was just like that small, about that small, and 11 was just a little bit tad tinier,
09:59I think you could still have folded everything up.
10:01Now granted, there doesn't really leave much leeway here.
10:05I mean, like the floor is pretty close to the back of the wall.
10:08But again, like if we just take ourselves the tabletop, we'll put it right over there.
10:12Where's the stool?
10:13What did I do with the stool?
10:13The stool's right here.
10:14Put the stool right there.
10:15Put the garbage can right there.
10:17It doesn't have any fun to it either.
10:20I mean, like where the appeal really is, is the fact that it actually is a VHS tape.
10:24So if you spin this around, that's really only where you benefit from, oh, hey, it's a VHS.
10:29If not for that though, I mean, if you're looking at it from the front, there's nothing really that you can do with it.
10:34I wish that it had something that you could play with it.
10:36If there was like a little button or something, I would shift things around.
10:39I don't know.
10:40Maybe my expectation level is a little higher.
10:42But when I think of the fun stuff you could have with like a Mighty Max and that this set is $29.99, a $30 set US.
10:51I think I probably paid a little bit more for that here in Canada.
10:53But for something that's $30 and it requires you as a collector.
10:57I mean, I don't think you really enjoy it as much when you're looking at it like this because you have to tell somebody for a second, oh, okay, that's kind of a cool diorama.
11:05You'll spin it around and say, well, it's not only cool because it's a diorama.
11:08It's cool also because it's a VHS tape that opens up to reveal the diorama.
11:12Probably the next question I would have had is a friend that is curious about these things because I would say, oh, so you can just put everything back in.
11:20You fold up the case and you take it wherever you need to go, hoping that my friend would say, yes, that's exactly what you can do with it.
11:27And then they would have to be, of course, the bearer of the bad news and say, no, no, no, no, it doesn't do that.
11:32Well, what do you have to do?
11:33You have to just like lay all down the figures and lay down the table?
11:36No, no, it doesn't do that either.
11:37You have to take everything off.
11:39You have to put everything back in the tray.
11:41You have to put everything back in the box and then you fold up the case and then you can take everything with you on the go.
11:46That's not as much fun.
11:48This, I think, potentially could have been a better set had they devised a way to actually make this compactable where you'd be able to close up shop.
11:55You know, again, you'd be able to set up the scene, do something with it.
11:59And then when you're done, when you want to take it to your friend's house, you'd be able to just fold everything up.
12:03Not having that, though, I think is one of the reasons why the Stranger Things VHS stars.
12:07I don't think it's really a star at all.
12:10I think it's a miss.
12:11I think that Wilder Toys maybe had a good idea on their hands, but without the proper execution of it, I don't think it's as much fun as they were hoping collectors would have with it.
12:19I don't know.
12:20Maybe I was expecting a little bit more from Wilder Toys.
12:22To have these being cases that open up and then you'd be able to put your characters inside, I would always then make the logical assumption, okay, well, you'd be able to store everything in there as well.
12:32Now, Wilder Toys does also do a whole bunch of Genesis-inspired games.
12:35They've done ones for Street Fighter and also Sonic the Hedgehog.
12:39I did notice, though, that they also had those also at my Walmart on an end display.
12:43I kind of wanted to test the waters first with Stranger Things to see if this was something I would have been interested in, and then maybe from there I probably would have picked up some of the Sonic or maybe some of the Street Fighter cases.
12:53But they're all kind of going to be the same problem.
12:55I mean, I'm looking at the way they've advertised these even online, and they're all clearly figures that you know looking at them.
13:02There's no way that they're going to fit in a case where you can close them back up.
13:05They are only really shown and revealed as being gang cases, or in this case, a VHS case, when you only really look at it from the back.
13:13From the front, it's a diorama that doesn't really do anything more than what it's doing right now.
13:19Had they put maybe features in there, something that could move, something that could flick, some sound effects, I don't know.
13:24Maybe sound effects probably would have cost the company too much to produce and therefore would have translated into the price point of what these things would have been selling for.
13:32I know with the game cases, the Genesis cases were selling for around $18 apiece, $17.99 for each of them individually.
13:39And then Stranger Things being a larger VHS, the video was a little bit bigger.
13:43I mean, it was a little bit more expensive, setting me back more closer to $30.
13:48If you go in this, I guess, with the expectation that, you know, you open up the case, you set everything up, and it just does this for the rest of the time on your shelf.
13:56I don't think you'd necessarily be disappointed, but if you're one that grew up, though, with dioramas that are all self-contained, then I think you're probably going to be a bigger, find more disappointment getting something like this on your shelf.
14:08What do you guys think of these? Let me know down below in the comments section.
14:11Do you think that Wilder Toys really should have found a way to incorporate storability on all of these, or it doesn't bother you at all that you have to open it up, take all the pieces out of the tray, set them all up, and if you ever want to take them on the go, you have to reverse the process and put everything back in the box before you pack it up and take it to your friends.
14:29What do you guys think of these? Let me know down below in the comments section.
14:31If you guys did, in the meantime, enjoy your video, enjoy this video, do it a solid, come on now, and throw it a like.
14:36You guys want to stick around for more, so? I hope so, I hope so.
14:39We're going to be maybe moving away from the upside down for right now, at least, but there definitely will be more videos coming away for the rest of this week.
14:45As always, thanks for watching. See you guys next time.
