00:00Special feature, Swedish folk dancing.
00:02Headed in the Parisian suburb of Bercy.
00:05What a time to be in this magnificent city.
00:07April in Paris, the weather in a word, beautiful.
00:11Temperatures, summer-like.
00:12Indoors, the crowd, well, they're growing eager for a big night of boxing.
00:16World Championship tripleheader on tap.
00:18The local fans ready to raise the roof for a true hometown hero,
00:22while many are also out to support what they hope is a future world champion from France.
00:27Let's run down tonight's bout order for you.
00:31First up, we'll present the WBO Junior Welterweight Championship as undefeated slugger Randall Bailey takes on number four-rated Ray Rocky Martinez.
00:40Next up, you'll see France's only reigning world champion.
00:44As one-time light heavyweight king Fabrice Tiozo defends his WBA cruiserweight crown against the number two contender Valery Vecor from the Ukraine.
00:52And in our main event, it'll be the anticipated rematch between Byron Mitchell and local favorite Bruno Girard for the WBA Super Middleweight Championship.
01:02The original fight, a controversial one that could have gone either way.
01:06Hello again, everybody.
01:11Steve Albert ringside here in Versailles.
01:13Tonight, three world champions put their titles and their winning streaks on the line.
01:17Hard-hitting Randall Bailey, who won his title by virtue of a stunning first-round knockout over Carlos Gonzalez,
01:23looks to make it a perfect 21-0 with 21 KOs,
01:26with a victory over three-time Chicago Golden Gloves champion Rocky Martinez in our opener.
01:31That'll warm things up for some real old-fashioned hometown flavor as local hero Fabrice Tiozo,
01:37a precious commodity as this country's lone world title holder tries to keep his belt in France and extend his win streak to 17.
01:45And we'll cap things off with a rematch of a compelling first fight in which American Byron Mitchell escaped with a disputed draw in Mississippi,
01:52although many felt Frenchman Bruno Girard's inspired performance was enough to earn him the victory.
01:58As Mitchell eyes his 20-second straight fight without a loss, the tables are turned as Girard now has the American on his own turn.
02:07With that, let me bring on my ringside partners.
02:09First, the fight doctor, Bernie Pacheco.
02:11Bernie, why has Tiozo been able to be so successful and continue this success year after year,
02:18ranging from light heavyweight to cruiserweight?
02:20First of all, let us state he is a superior fighter.
02:23He's a very good fighter.
02:24He's got all the equipment, but also that his opponents haven't been first class.
02:28He hasn't been in that shoot-em-up kind of stuff we have in the States.
02:32A combination of both things.
02:33Great talent, not great opponents.
02:36Keeps him in the saddle for a long time.
02:38All right, let's turn to our other partner here, Bobby Ches.
02:41Let's get into the main event.
02:42Bobby, how did Mitchell come so close to losing, not only his title, but his undefeated record in that first fight?
02:49Well, Steve, it was a combination of things that almost led to Mitchell's demise.
02:51Firstly, he was supremely overconfident after his blowout in the 11th round of Frankie Lyos.
02:56That gave him almost too much confidence.
02:58Next, he looked at Gerrard.
02:59We underestimated, therefore, underprepared and under-trained.
03:02So he wasn't physically ready.
03:03And lastly, he employed a terrible strategy.
03:06He overnamorated with his one-punch knockout power.
03:08He tried that one-punch game with Gerrard.
03:12And Gerrard didn't fall for it.
03:13He was tough enough, durable enough.
03:14And then Mitchell got tired.
03:15Gerrard came on, closed the fight.
03:17And I'll tell you what, almost the title as well as the undefeated record went out the window that night.
03:22I pretty much summed it up right there.
03:24We look forward to our main event, Mitchell versus the hometown favorite Gerrard.
03:27Right now, let's turn our attention to the opening thought.
03:30Among boxing's 60 current world champions, only two have perfect knockout records.
03:35In other words, both are undefeated with each of their victories by way of knockout.
03:39One is WBO junior lightweight champion, Asselino Freitas.
03:42The other is with us tonight.
03:44He's WBO junior lightweight champ, Randall Bailey.
03:47The explosive Florettian has not only KO'd everyone he's faced, only three of his fights have gone past the third round.
03:53Still undefeated and still the WBO junior welterweight champion.
04:14And tonight here in France, the power punching Randall Bailey looks to make it 21 straight knockouts in 21 fights.
04:36As we close in on our first fight, the undefeated Bailey takes on Rocky Martinez for the WBO junior welterweight championship.
04:42There is the challenger, Rocky Martinez from Chicago, by way of Acapulco, Mexico.
04:48Experienced pro, technically sound, but not a big banger.
04:51Also lacks speed.
04:53His three losses came when he stepped up the competition, losing a shutout to Phillip Holliday for the IBF lightweight belt.
05:00Close decision as a late substitute to Joey Gamache.
05:02And another decision to current IBF lightweight champ Paul Spadafora up a controversial draw in his hometown Chicago with a tall Cuban-born Hicklett-Lowell hometown decision.
05:14Martinez, I thought, not deserving of the draw.
05:18Ferdy, what does Martinez need to do to offset Bailey's power?
05:23Well, the first thing, he's got to try to catch some of those punches on a glove and return some fire.
05:28If he's just running, trying to defend himself, he's going to get knocked out.
05:31That's the kind of guy that Bailey eats up.
05:33He's got to give him some kind of a contest, but he cannot go toe-to-toe.
05:36He's got a very difficult task, and he's facing a guy who is absolutely sure he can knock out anybody.
05:4133 of his 36 fights in the Chicago area, so a rare experience.
05:47The champion, Randall Bailey, won the belt in his first title shot last year with a stirring first-round knockout of Carlos Gonzalez.
05:56Then the defense against Hector Lopez.
05:58Bobby, his last bout, a gut check.
06:01He seemed to gain a world of experience in that one fight.
06:03Well, you know, when you look at Bailey's career, he hasn't gone that many rounds.
06:06So this guy taking him past the seventh round for the only time in his career, everybody wanted to know how he'd fare late.
06:10He answered his critics by stopping Hector Lopez in the ninth round, and he was tested throughout the fight.
06:15So he not only gains a world of experience, he also gains a world of confidence, Steve.
06:19All right, Bobby, let's check the tail of the tape.
06:22Bailey, four years younger than Martinez.
06:25Two-and-a-half-inch height advantage for Bailey at yesterday's weigh-in, both under the 140 limit.
06:29The fight time weights, Bailey 144-and-a-half, Martinez 146-and-a-half.
06:34So a gain of seven-and-a-half pounds, slight reach advantage for Bailey.
06:37And the key rules for this WBO title fight, no standing eight count, no three-knockdown rule.
06:42A fighter cannot be saved by the bell in any round.
06:45If an accidental headbutt occurs before the end of the fourth, the fighters ruled a technical draw.
06:49After the end of the fourth, they go to the scorecards.
06:52So here at Pelé on this four, we're getting ready for the WBO Junior Welterweight Championship.
06:57It'll be Randall Bailey versus Rocky Martinez.
07:00Let's get the formal introductions from our ring announcers Daniel Alouche and Jimmy Lennon Jr.

10:15He was champion of the United States in 1994 and 1995, champion international WBO in 1998 and 1999.
10:23Ladies and gentlemen, ladies and gentlemen, the challenger, Ray Rocky Martinez.
10:30All right, fans, here we go with the WBO Junior Welterweight Championship of the World scheduled for 12 rounds of boxing.
10:41We present first the challenger on my right, fighting out of the blue corner, wearing red, white, and green trumps, hailing from Chicago, Illinois, by way of Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico.
10:52His weight, 139 pounds, his record, 32, 3 and 1, with 17 knockouts.
10:59Please welcome tonight's challenge to rank the WBO number 4 contender, introducing Rocky, the Mexican kid, Martinez.
11:07In the red corner, he has 25 years, he weighs 1,73 m, 63 kg, 200 grams.
11:19Impressive palmarès, 20 combats, 20 victoires, 20 par KO.
11:24It's the champion of the world, WBO, the super léger, Ronald Bailey.
11:32And his opponent across the ring, ladies and gentlemen, is the defending champion on my left, fighting out of the red corner, wearing green trunks with white trim, fighting out of Miami, Florida.
11:46He weighed in the same as his opponent, 139 pounds.
11:50His perfect record includes 20 wins, no losses with all 20 wins coming by way of knockout.
11:56Tonight, making the second defensive end of his title, please welcome the hard-hitting WBO junior welterweight champion of the world, Randall Bailey.
12:14Bobby Ches, how about your keys to victory?
12:16Well, for Bailey, he's got to keep the pressure on.
12:18That's one of his strong suits.
12:20Also, land-to-power combinations.
12:21He's famous for his knockouts, they're all knockouts.
12:23And work the body.
12:24He wants to slow down Martinez to the body.
12:33How about Rocky?
12:34Well, Rocky wants to make Bailey miss and counter him.
12:36He's got to make him pay for every mistake.
12:38Also, take the fight into the later rounds.
12:40That's one of the questions about Bailey.
12:41Can he stay late and get inside Bailey's power shots?
12:44Sometimes you've got to sit inside the eye of the storm.
12:47Bailey, a fast starter, tremendous combination of power and speed.
12:52We are underway, round one, scheduled.
12:54For 12 for the WBO junior welterweight championship.
13:03Bailey, extremely hard hitter, fast hands.
13:06Usually comes right at his opponent.
13:08Averages just a little better than two rounds per fight.
13:1113 of his 20 knockouts in the first round.
13:14Martinez has a good chin.
13:15He'll probably need it tonight.
13:17Tonight, he's never been knocked out.
13:18Down only once in 36 fights.
13:21His three defeats were to current or former world champions.
13:24Once again, I thought the understated Jimmy Lennon Jr. dominated in the battle of the dueling ring.
13:35He's the top.
13:36You know, are you thinking we're looking at something new, multicolored hair on boxes?
13:41That's the worst red hair I think I've ever seen in my life.
13:44The Dennis Rodman of boxing.
13:46There you go.
13:47Hairdresser will appreciate that.
13:49Dennis Rodman dropped out for a year.
13:51I've never thought about that.
13:52Well, it's a new strategy by a fighter trying to blind your opponent.
13:55But Randall Bailey puts everything into it, really steps into his punches.
14:01I think you said the last time we saw him, Bobby, speed times balance equals power?
14:06And that's the name of his game.
14:08Speed times power equals devastation.
14:11You know, if you can generate speed times mass, I'm sorry, equals devastation.
14:15If you can get a lot of big body traveling at fast speeds, it'll do damage.
14:18He sends his 140 pounds all in.
14:21He just put in a very hard hook.
14:22He missed it on the top of the head.
14:23Hit a little bit of that red patch up there.
14:26But boy, was it a hard hook by Bailey.
14:28I mean, he's starting to get the range, Bobby.
14:30He's just getting in there.
14:32Well, he hasn't had to look for him.
14:34Martinez came right to him, and he's giving him the fight.
14:37He's taking it to him.
14:37So far, the aggressor.
14:39Bailey told us the most important thing he's got to watch out for against Martinez.
14:43Headbutts.
14:44He said he worked with short sparring partners, junior middleweights and middleweights,
14:48in preparation for the stocky five, seven and a half Martinez.
14:51And he also said he didn't think it was so much that he was a dirty fighter,
14:54but that his style was conducive to headbutts and elbows because he was very aggressive in a little while.
14:59His trainer, Al Bonani, said we'll see a different Bailey tonight.
15:03Much stronger in perfect condition as opposed to his last fight versus Hector Lopez,
15:08in which Bailey, he said, was only 70%.
15:11He said the fight was postponed so many times.
15:14Bailey, if there is such a term, overtraining.
15:17I'm familiar with the term, and overtraining is worse than undertraining,
15:19because you've taken too much out of your body, zapped its strength and it's come back.
15:24And nothing to put back in, because it's gone.
15:27That's a horrible feeling, overtraining.
15:30Right now, Bobby, I don't see the urgency.
15:32I don't see the quickness of Bailey.
15:35Bailey usually come in there electric, like he wants to knock you out the first night.
15:37He looks like he's taking his time, doing his work, you know, not in a hurry,
15:41confident that he's going to get his guy.
15:43He also seems to be trying to time Martinez.
15:46I see a couple of the counters.
15:47He's moving.
15:47He's rocking back, firing a right uppercut underneath there.
15:50It was half an uppercut, but it seems to be rocking.
15:53Ernie, as he did, when he won the title, over, cuts out us.
15:57Don't let him take the lead.
15:58Use your jab, double.
15:59Double that jab, double that jab, double that jab.
16:03Look at me.
16:04He jabs, catch it, counter with your jab.
16:06You follow what I'm saying?
16:07You're looking for that one right hand, all right?
16:09He's defensing it.
16:10Here, take a little rinse.
16:12Both hands off the jab.
16:14You're looking for a right hand back on his wide right hand.
16:16You may want to throw a right uppercut back, okay?
16:19Okay, good.
16:20Not a bad first round.
16:22You got the jitters out, okay?
16:24Let's give me that jab, but pump that jab.
16:26Double it, okay?
16:27Double it.
16:27When you're throwing the...
16:29Look at me.
16:29When you're throwing that overhand right, you're a little far.
16:32Try to step in with it, okay?
16:34Because he's a sucker for it.
16:35I can see it.
16:36But you got to do it quick.
16:37Change your level on the jab, okay?
16:39Throw a nice...
16:39Like a soft one, then a hard one, then bing.
16:41Pop that overhand right, okay?
16:44Let's go.
16:46Al Bonatti pretty much pinpointing your train of thought there, Ferdy,
16:50when he said, well, you got the jitters out.
16:52Let's go to work.
16:53Yeah, Al's one of the better quartermen.
16:54And he spent a lot of years doing this.
16:57Those guys spent 20, 30 years, man.
16:59They know what they're looking at.
17:00And he's called Bailey his best prospect in 25 years.
17:04And that is high praise from one of the top trainers in the game.
17:09Rocky Martinez, you can't miss him with the red hair.
17:13He said he'll neutralize Bailey's power by catching punches with his hands,
17:16not his jaw, which is always recommended in boxing.
17:19That's a straight right by Bailey.
17:22His best punch.
17:23Now he's getting down on it.
17:24Now he's getting down on it.
17:25In the corner, too, Al Bonatti said,
17:27don't try that right hand over.
17:28So when you're rocked, try the right uppercut.
17:30What I was alluding to before, he's trying to time him.
17:32And there was the well-timed right uppercut by Randall Bailey.
17:36There's a right hand that just grazed the head of Martinez.
17:41Those are whistling hard punches.
17:43There's nothing, nothing soft about it.
17:46Boy, Bailey, it's like he said,
17:47OK, that's enough for first round.
17:48Now let me get back to being a man.
17:51And Martinez with no answers.
17:53It's all Randall Bailey uppercut straight rights
17:57throwing his arsenal at the challenger.
18:02Bailey's starting to really find the range and the rhythm.
18:05His timing of Martinez now, his punches are landing
18:07much more cleanly, much more solid, much more often.
18:11Only took him one round.
18:13There it is.
18:15He has 17 of his 20 KOs in three rounds or less.
18:19This is only the second.
18:22Bailey in the all green.
18:24What he hasn't done, though, after he's been successful
18:26with the jab in the right hand to the head,
18:28he hasn't dropped down with a couple of body shots.
18:30The left hook underneath, the right uppercut to the midsection
18:33might really open up things for Bailey.
18:35I think at the top of the show, you alluded to a guy
18:38that knows he can punch without him getting crazy with it.
18:40He knows he can knock this guy with the right hand.
18:42He's not doing his homework to the body,
18:44as you correctly point out.
18:46He's got to get, you know, calm down again
18:48and go back down to the body, start working again.
18:50But I think he figures he can get this guy out
18:52with just his right hand.
18:54We saw it again.
18:55There's a rare left hook by Bailey.
18:58There's no question about Bailey's power in both hands,
19:01but Alvinati wants to see him use the jab board,
19:03be more balanced.
19:05Box four, don't load up.
19:07When you load up, he says you lose that balance.
19:09They lose it, baby.
19:10Hurt him.
19:11There it is.
19:12All good punchers have excellent balance.
19:14The transition of their weight to and fro,
19:16right hand to left hand,
19:17and the switch of their feet and their legs,
19:19turning their hips in.
19:20Bailey does it well,
19:20but sometimes he overcommits,
19:21trying to take your head off so well with one shot
19:24that he loses that balance,
19:25and that's what Benani's been working on.
19:27Final 30 seconds of the second round.
19:30It's been all Randall Bailey here in round two.
19:35Step back, step back.
19:35Good job.
19:38Martinez with all kinds of tattoos on his back and his front.
19:43And his side.
19:44Finish up, man.
19:46He caught a pretty terrific left hook
19:47into his right eye, Martinez did,
19:49and it's starting to close.
19:50I was going to say this.
19:51Right on the cheekbone, there's a swelling.
19:53Already his eyes are swelling up.
19:55The left one predicted this roughly.
19:56Thank you, okay?
20:00And don't respect this guy so much, okay?
20:03Let them hands go.
20:04Keep your hands up and start jabbing
20:05and go to the guy's body, all right?
20:08Get that and swallow on him, Jim.
20:11Take a deep breath.
20:12Let it all slow.
20:12Let it all slow.
20:12You've got to let them hands go.
20:19Let them go.
20:20You understand?
20:20When you're inside, throw them up the middle,
20:23then move to the side.
20:24Don't go straight back.
20:25Take a couple of looks at that right hand
20:27of Randall Bailey's.
20:28Using that jab to set up,
20:29there's the right hand.
20:29It doesn't really land too cleanly.
20:31That one catches him on the jaw,
20:33but he is finding that range,
20:35and that is his best weapon.
20:38Here's another look at it.
20:40First one.
20:41That's the second one,
20:41which just catches the chin.
20:44That was a nice right hand.
20:45That was some big-time heavy breathing
20:47going on on the corner of Rocky Martinez.
20:50And Randall Bailey began round two
20:54by zeroing in with his right,
20:56connecting several times with clean punches
20:57and moving Martinez backward.
21:00Martinez fights have lasted an average
21:02of five and a half rounds.
21:03Bailey has mentioned just a little more
21:05than two full rounds.
21:07And we're in the third now.
21:08And he told us, in fact,
21:20it's funny you say that
21:21the keys to victory include
21:22taking Bailey deep.
21:24Yeah, he said he had to take him deep.
21:26But he also said one of the things
21:28he had to do to take him deep
21:29is block those punches with gloves
21:30and not his jaw,
21:31and they're starting to find his jaw.
21:33And right on target.
21:35I mean, he is picking
21:36and even the jab is hard right on target.
21:40Bailey knows how to get his man.
21:42He knows how to break him down,
21:43and he's doing it right now.
21:44What's the expression?
21:45A left jaw to the hook.
21:47And that is what Rocky Martinez
21:48is accepting here.
21:51Randall Bailey is one of those fighters
21:53like Tommy Hearns.
21:54He throws punches with bad intentions
21:56almost all the time,
21:57and he's offensive-minded.
21:59Dangerous combination.
22:03Whipping straight rights
22:05by Randall Bailey,
22:05whizzing by
22:06the head of Martinez.
22:10He still hasn't gone
22:11to the body, though.
22:13And I think it would make this fight
22:14a whole lot easier for him.
22:16Especially if he switch right now,
22:18where this guy's just
22:18in a catching mode.
22:20He's just catching everything upstairs.
22:21Boy, he could go downstairs
22:22and do some real damage.
22:23Get some real value
22:25for his power downstairs right now.
22:30Martinez, solid technically.
22:32Knows how to jab at the right time,
22:33but he's in there
22:35with somebody the likes
22:37of Randall Bailey.
22:38It's very different.
22:39Something else you'll notice, too.
22:40First round,
22:41Martinez came out the aggressor.
22:43His best round of these short few.
22:45Second round,
22:46Bailey came out the aggressor
22:47now continuing to pursue.
22:49And I'll tell you right now,
22:50Martinez can't win the fight
22:51going backwards.
22:52And if he comes forward,
22:56he's going to find
22:56a red glove in his face.
22:58He's in a bad position.
22:59Can't go back
22:59and he can't go front.
23:01Generally, he's at his best,
23:02Martinez,
23:03when he can get him
23:04to close range
23:05and out-hustle his opponents.
23:06But that could be
23:07a very huge mistake
23:08against a guy
23:09with a right hand
23:10of Randall Bailey.
23:11There's that right,
23:12right there.
23:13It was partially blocked
23:14nicely, though.
23:15Counterpunching by Martinez,
23:17and Martinez is game.
23:18Straight right hand
23:22by Bailey once again.
23:23He's measuring with the jab,
23:24is Bailey,
23:25and he's just really trying
23:26to zero with the right hand.
23:27I think he's over-concentrating
23:28on just the right hand.
23:30A couple of left hooks,
23:31and he, again,
23:31worked that body,
23:32come upstairs with an uppercut.
23:33This could be a much better
23:34and easier fight for him.
23:36The whole thing
23:37is right hand right now.
23:38He doesn't come back
23:39with a hook after him.
23:40The classic thing
23:41that all good punches do.
23:42Right hand goes in,
23:43the hook's coming.
23:43This guy hasn't thrown it.
23:44See?
23:45No hook.
23:45The one good hook he threw,
23:46you see what it's done
23:47by the face of Martinez.
23:50You can see the eye.
23:51That was one good left hook.
23:53Bailey going more
23:53to the boxing tactics
23:55in that last round.
23:56Al Bonatti has to be happy
23:57about that.
23:58Pull him off a little bit.
24:00Hey, you're going to have
24:01to work that right hand,
24:02and when you slip,
24:02you've got to work
24:03that body inside.
24:04Come on,
24:04you've got to step it up
24:05a little bit.
24:06You're giving this guy
24:06way too much respect.
24:08Start doubling them jabs up,
24:09okay?
24:14Hey, you've got a hook too,
24:15you know?
24:15Yeah.
24:16He's open for the hook
24:17when you slip underneath,
24:18come back with that hook.
24:19As soon as he touches you,
24:20you've got to come back
24:20with something, okay?
24:22Don't let him...
24:22You hear me?
24:23When he's inside with you,
24:24see if you take a step
24:25to your left
24:25and hook him to the body.
24:26Double down there.
24:27Then spin on him.
24:29You know the spin?
24:30I'm bending straight over.
24:30I know, baby.
24:31Give me some more water
24:32if you've got it.
24:33Doing good.
24:34Everything is fine.
24:35Come on.
24:36You've got all three rounds.
24:37Open up.
24:39Very good.
24:40Woo!
24:41Give me that.
24:43All right, come on.
24:44You hear what I'm telling you?
24:45Both hands off that jab.
24:47Yeah.
24:48Both hands off that jab.
24:50And if you can hook to the body,
24:52hook to the body.
24:52Very cool, calm instructions
24:54from out.
24:55Benanti,
24:56don't get confused
24:57by that first pill.
24:58That's a warning.
24:59And it's funny, too.
25:00Benanti said the same thing.
25:01He said,
25:01throw that double hook
25:02down to the body.
25:03Work that body, too.
25:04And he also just has no hooks
25:07behind that right hander.
25:08Where's the hook?
25:09So,
25:10either he's listening to us
25:11or great minds work
25:12in the same channel.
25:12We're all looking
25:13at the same thing.
25:14And overall, though,
25:15he said he was pleased
25:16with the work
25:18of Randall Bailey.
25:19Martinez told us
25:20part of his strategy
25:22was to pick up
25:23Bailey's punches
25:24with his gloves.
25:24That's a very risky strategy
25:27considering how powerful
25:28Randall Bailey is.
25:29It's a nice overhand right
25:30because Martinez's corner
25:31also told him,
25:32start throwing that
25:33overhand right.
25:34Get the right hand working.
25:35Blood from the left side
25:38of Martinez's face.
25:41The right hands
25:42are finding their mark.
25:43And he's trying to rub it
25:43out of the eye.
25:44It's getting into the left eye
25:45now of Martinez
25:46and it's beginning
25:47to cloud things.
25:48His vision.
25:50You can see he's bothered by it
25:51and that opens the door
25:52even more for the champion.
25:55As if things aren't bad enough
25:57for Martinez right now.
25:58You can see Bailey
25:59holding the left hand alley
26:00as a feel, a range finder.
26:02He's really cocking
26:02in their right hand.
26:03And Bailey connecting
26:04with the right,
26:05a counterpunch overhand right
26:06by Martinez,
26:07not doing much damage.
26:08A very confident
26:11Randall Bailey now
26:12trying to set up
26:14the right hand.
26:16There's a quick straight right.
26:18Nice lead right hand
26:19by Martinez,
26:19but Bailey spun him
26:20and turned off it real nice.
26:22Now Bailey using both hands.
26:24First time he got in
26:25both hands
26:26and they both landed.
26:27Looked good.
26:27Looked good.
26:28A cut opening
26:29over Rocky Martinez's eye
26:31a minute into
26:32a round four.
26:35It's his left eye.
26:38And a slightly better round
26:41in certain areas
26:42for Martinez
26:43because he's coming forward.
26:46He cannot fight going backwards.
26:47He's trying something.
26:48He's trying something.
26:49At least the first three rounds
26:51he didn't try anything.
26:52Right now he's trying something.
26:53They're not working real good,
26:54but he's trying to.
26:56And Bailey very confident
26:58because he's probably
26:59taken the hardest punch
27:01possible by Martinez
27:02and it hasn't really
27:03done anything to him.
27:04So he's no problem
27:05him getting inside.
27:08But the blood continues
27:09to streak down
27:10the left side
27:11of Rocky's face.
27:13And for those of you
27:14who've just joined us,
27:15no, that's not blood
27:16in his hair.
27:17That's dye job.
27:18But down below the hair,
27:19yes, that's blood.
27:20And it's pouring.
27:21Only his hairdresser
27:22knows for sure.
27:23Here's a right hand again
27:25by Martinez,
27:26by Bailey that gets in.
27:29Final seconds of round four.
27:31It's been all
27:31Randall Bailey.
27:33Bailey slowed down
27:34this pace a little,
27:35at least from his end.
27:37Martinez has picked up
27:38his pace,
27:38throwing more punches
27:39this round than the last
27:40and allowing,
27:42Martinez is not allowing
27:43Bailey to push him back
27:45so easily.
27:46Martinez really coming off
27:47a spotty performance
27:49against Hicklett and Lau
27:50January 21st in Chicago.
27:52Well, they called it a draw,
27:53but most everybody
27:55thought Lau won.
28:03What was that?
28:07Hey, you're going to have
28:08to start jabbing this guy,
28:09okay?
28:11You're going to have
28:11to start working,
28:12okay?
28:14Go for that knockout.
28:15We need it, okay?
28:16I'm trying, yeah.
28:16Because we got a cut here.
28:18Keep your eye closed.
28:19It's not that bad.
28:20It's not that bad.
28:20We got it.
28:21I want you to start
28:22working that back.
28:23We're going to take a look
28:24at one of the punches
28:25that might have been
28:26what caused that cut.
28:28He gets a nice little
28:29right hand raked
28:30across his face
28:31right there
28:32and maybe even
28:33a little bit of forearm
28:34and elbow to go with it.
28:35But that could be
28:36the punch right there
28:36that opened up the cut
28:37around the left eye.
28:39Martinez.
28:40We've got this.
28:41The doctor's over there.
28:45A few minutes.
28:49The rink side physician,
28:51Dr. Alain Moiseau,
28:53checked things
28:54and he said
28:54it's okay to continue
28:56into round five.
28:57So a cut
28:57opening over
28:59Martinez's left eye
29:00about a minute
29:01into round four.
29:02We'll see what kind of job
29:03cut man Jim Strickland,
29:06who's one of the best,
29:07did in the corner.
29:08And you could have
29:10clearly seen the last round.
29:11Martinez was blinking
29:11and wiping at that eye
29:12on a regular basis.
29:14That blood was getting
29:14in his eyes.
29:16No question.
29:18Well, you can't question
29:18a guy's ability
29:19to take a punch.
29:20He's really been
29:20hit a few really good shots
29:22could have moved him
29:22and he's still there
29:23punching so
29:24Rocky Martinez
29:25is going to
29:27make a job
29:28that's okay.
29:29He didn't get that nickname
29:30for nothing.
29:31A tough, durable guy.
29:32An aggressive style
29:33but he's being outclassed
29:34by Randall Bell.
29:37Outskilled.
29:38That's the right hand
29:40block.
29:40That one wasn't
29:41a straight right
29:42got in and it wobbles.
29:43Martinez.
29:44Delayed reaction here too.
29:45Martinez really,
29:46really hurt.
29:47He's trying to hang on.
29:49Get his feet back.
29:50Don't knock him out.
29:51Punish him.
29:53He'll stop the hand.
29:54There's corners
29:54that don't knock him out.
29:55Punish him.
29:56That's cruel.
29:57There it is.
29:57Punish him again.
29:59Come on.
30:00As fighters go,
30:01we don't want to punish
30:02guys generally.
30:02We want them out of there
30:03as fast as possible.
30:04Anything is possible.
30:06Long trip from Miami.
30:08They're trying to make it
30:08worthwhile, I guess.
30:10There you go.
30:12He was dangling
30:13on a string
30:14just in and he worked
30:15his way out of it,
30:16apparently.
30:16Once again,
30:17he went right hand,
30:17no left hooks followed.
30:19No body shots,
30:20but he could have
30:21really done some damage.
30:22Martinez's legs
30:23were extremely wobbly.
30:25He was definitely rocked
30:27but able to suck it up.
30:29Still a lot of blood
30:30now under the left eye
30:31with Martinez.
30:33Missing with that
30:34the left-right combination
30:35is Rocky.
30:37Most of those punches
30:38being blocked by Bailey
30:39and then he answers
30:40back with a straight right.
30:41Come on, baby.
30:42Bailey continues
30:43to dominate.
30:44Step back, step back,
30:45step back, step back.
30:46Let's go.
30:47Bailey 20-0,
30:4820 knockouts,
30:49one of two world champions
30:51with perfect knockout records
30:53loading up there
30:54with the right.
30:55A little fancy.
30:56Be careful.
31:00Martinez, 32-3-1
31:02with 17 knockouts.
31:03Every time he has stepped up,
31:05he has lost.
31:06For no one to stop him,
31:07it would be a very nice feather
31:09in Bailey's cap
31:10if he could really stop
31:11Martinez and do it efficiently.
31:14Martinez hurt
31:15in about 50 seconds
31:17here into round five.
31:18Really staggered.
31:25Bailey, perhaps letting him
31:29off the hook
31:30just for the moment.
31:31Oh, right uppercut
31:32just missed by Bailey.
31:33What a great idea it was.
31:35Just missed by an inch.
31:36By an inch.
31:41Come on, baby.
31:42Looking to line up
31:43that right with a jab.
31:44Left hook, though,
31:44by Bailey.
31:45Nicely done.
31:47Here's the jab
31:48by Bailey.
31:49It's peppering the face
31:51of, the bloody face
31:52of Martinez.
31:53Five seconds.
31:53Five seconds.
31:55Come on.
31:57Five.
31:58Stop the fire.
31:59That left eye
32:00continues to be
32:01a major problem
32:02for Rocky.
32:11That's the doctor.
32:21I get it.
32:23Close your eyes.
32:25It's okay.
32:26Hey.
32:26You'll be all right.
32:28Rocky.
32:30You're going to have
32:30to get this guy, okay,
32:31with that right hand.
32:32See the combinations
32:33by Randall Bailey.
32:35He really unloads
32:36on Martinez.
32:37The right hand comes outside.
32:39He's been a little
32:39too wide with it.
32:40But down the middle,
32:41the right hand was working.
32:43The wide right hand
32:43not working.
32:44There's where he's staggering.
32:45The delayed effect.
32:46You got him wobbly.
32:47And you see the blood
32:48on the face here.
32:49Look at that blood
32:50around the eye
32:50getting in Martinez's way.
32:52Go!
32:52Go!
32:52Bailey really working
32:54that eye,
32:54working that cut,
32:55consistently aiming
32:56for the same part.
32:57Come on!
32:57Let's go!
32:57The doctor says
32:58once again it's okay.
32:59We continue on
33:01into round six.
33:02And that's all well
33:04and good for the champion,
33:06Randall Bailey,
33:06who continues
33:08to have his way.
33:09Let's go!
33:10Even Martinez's corner,
33:11so we need a knockout now.
33:12There's no two ways about it.
33:13They realize
33:14that cut's getting worse
33:14and their fighter
33:15is absorbing enormous punches.
33:18A major sense of urgency
33:19now from the Martinez corner.
33:21Come on!
33:25Come on!
33:30Come on!
33:31Hey!
33:32Hey!
33:33Nice right hand
33:34by Martinez.
33:35Probably the best shot
33:36he's thrown in several rounds.
33:37The mouthpiece nearly fell out.
33:39There's a left hook by Bailey
33:41that stunt Martinez
33:42as more blood pours
33:43from the left side
33:44of Rocky's face.
33:45Another straight break
33:46by the champion.
33:47He's starting to fall apart.
33:48That blood is really,
33:49really coming down.
33:50It's bothering him.
33:51I would think he's having
33:52such good success
33:53with a few left hooks
33:54that he's thrown
33:55that he would throw more Bailey,
33:56but he's not.
34:00Martinez's face
34:01becoming a wreck.
34:03Go, baby!
34:03Go!
34:05Martinez has to lay
34:06some sort of heavy combination
34:08on Bailey
34:09just to get him
34:10to back off
34:10a little bit
34:11because Bailey just
34:12has nothing to stop
34:13nothing in front of him.
34:14Or even no real offense
34:15being offered up
34:15that's of any measure.
34:17Even pick up the pace
34:18with a jab
34:19either to the stomach
34:20or to the face,
34:21something to try
34:22to keep him off balance,
34:23try to keep him.
34:24But see, nothing is happening.
34:25The other guy's completely
34:26in balance and in tune.
34:28Randall Bailey
34:28is rocking and rolling
34:29to his own tune.
34:30Nothing is interfering him
34:31with him.
34:32He's doing what he wants.
34:33Watch out!
34:34Wait!
34:35Wait!
34:36On the back!
34:37Come back with that roof!
34:38Who did it?
34:39There's the jab of
34:41of Randall Bailey.
34:44More than a probing jab,
34:46it's an attacking jab
34:48on the nose of Martinez.
34:51Very, very bothersome.
34:53And then he unloads
34:54the punishing ring.
34:56He's forgetting that hook.
35:14He threw the right up,
35:14took Martinez's head,
35:16stood him straight up
35:17to the hook.
35:18That's what you do,
35:18you take the hook
35:19and take it off.
35:19Error of omission
35:20and Albonani
35:21has been all over
35:22Bailey to throw it,
35:23but he has not.
35:27He is right-hand
35:28happy right now,
35:29Randall Bailey.
35:30There it is!
35:31Check it out my way!
35:33Well, this is what you call
35:34a one-way fight.
35:35There it is!
35:36This is a straight,
35:36one-way beating.
35:37That's the only way
35:38you can do this.
35:39Punisher!
35:40Punisher!
35:42Let's go!
35:42A game of Rocky Martinez
35:44hanging tough
35:45despite that vicious cut
35:47around the left eye
35:49that has caused
35:49a lot of bleeding.
35:53There's no quit
35:53in Martinez.
35:54He's there,
35:54but he just doesn't
35:55have much to offer up.
35:57It's just a complete
35:57difference in ability
35:58to look.
35:58Too slow.
35:59I would think
36:00that the doctor
36:00may make a decision
36:01here pretty soon
36:02because really
36:03it's a one-way fight.
36:05Now, here comes
36:06the doctor.
36:06Let's see.
36:07Let's see.
36:08He could be a factor
36:09right now.
36:12Come in.
36:13Stop.
36:16You hear the heavy
36:17breathing?
36:17Yeah.
36:18Let's go.
36:20Okay, boy?
36:21I thought so.
36:22Yeah, I think
36:23I can stop.
36:23That's it.
36:24Stop the fight.
36:25You're going to stop it?
36:28It's all over here
36:29after round six.
36:33The doctor,
36:34Alamizzo,
36:35makes the recommendation
36:36to the referee,
36:37Samuel Garouen,
36:38out of New York City.
36:39And this one is history
36:40after six.
36:43And really,
36:44it's about the only way
36:44it could go
36:45because he's getting
36:45a one-way being
36:46needed excuse to stop.
36:47The doctor was there
36:48and the eye is poor
36:49him, but why not
36:50stop it?
36:51Perfect, perfect, perfect.
36:56So Randall Bailey
36:57comes a long way
36:58from his home
36:59in Miami, Florida
37:00for his second
37:01successful defense
37:02of the WBO Jr.
37:03well-to-weight crown.
37:05Bailey beating Rocky
37:07Martinez to retain
37:08the belt
37:09in convincing fashion.
37:13And Bailey remains
37:14unbeaten.
37:15Now 21-0
37:16with 21 knockouts.
37:18And he still has
37:19that perfect KO record.
37:21Only one of two champions
37:22in the world today.
37:24Bailey's trainer
37:25just came over.
37:25Abinani said
37:26he hurt his left hand
37:27hitting Martinez
37:28in the elbow.
37:29That's why he wasn't
37:29using the hook.
37:30So either he hurt us
37:31or he too was frustrated.
37:32It's funny,
37:33in the early going
37:34I did detect
37:35that he grimaced
37:36and he made
37:37a sound like
37:38he hurt himself
37:39but I wasn't
37:40quite sure.
37:41I didn't want to say
37:41anything but that
37:42must have been the punch.
37:43Now we know.
37:43We do.
37:44That's why he held back
37:45on the left hand.
37:46Because basically
37:47he is a two-handed fighter.
37:48He will come at you
37:49with both hands.
37:50He's not normally
37:50so right-hand crazy.
37:52Martinez now 0 for 2
37:55in world title attempt
37:56slips to 32, 4 and 1.
37:59He took quite a beating.
38:01As you can see
38:02title unification
38:03could be very interesting
38:04in this division now
38:05as far as Bailey
38:06is concerned.
38:07WBC champ Kostia Zhu
38:09scheduled to fight
38:10number one
38:10Julio Cesar Chavez
38:11in July.
38:13The other champions
38:13Shambay Mitchell
38:14WBA and Zap Judah
38:16IBF.
38:16Two very formidable fighters
38:18but Bailey
38:19as he told us
38:20is really setting
38:21his sights on Kostia Zhu.
38:22And there's also
38:23Teron Milet in there
38:24also a champion
38:25who had to step down
38:25for a little while
38:26and I'll tell you what
38:27anybody wanting
38:28to go after Kostia Zhu
38:29is admirable
38:30in and of itself
38:31because that is
38:32a great little fight.
38:32Well Miguel Angel Gonzalez
38:34underestimated Kostia Zhu's power
38:36is Bailey in for
38:37a rude awakening
38:38if he meets Kostia Zhu.
38:40We'll find out.
38:42I'll tell you what
38:43the names you just talked about
38:44Steve any one of those
38:44in the round robin
38:45I would take good money
38:46to watch any of them.
38:47Thank you Don King
38:48for taking his two friends.
38:48Be my friends.
38:49Grout pleasing fight
38:49and Al Bonani
38:50yelling out
38:52people are friends
38:53and why not?
38:55Well his trip's been good.
38:57In short
38:58it's been very successful.
39:00Mentioned Zhu
39:01fight Chavez
39:01in July.
39:02Number one
39:02can Chavez
39:03make the wait?
39:04Number two
39:04has he taken out
39:05enough insurance?
39:06I'll tell you what
39:07I think it's a bad mistake
39:08for Chavez
39:08but the rumor is
39:09that he needs the money
39:10and he wants
39:10one more crack at it
39:11and Kostia Zhu
39:12I believe will be
39:13the definitive statement
39:15and he will find
39:15his way
39:16to the camera.
39:17Well that's the man
39:18eventually that
39:19Randall Bailey wants
39:20he hopes to fight again
39:21in June
39:21he told us
39:22on the Holyfield Ruiz card
39:23versus the Turkish
39:25born fighter
39:26who is now living
39:28in Germany
39:29don't know much
39:30about that guy
39:31but that's who
39:34Randall Bailey
39:35says might be next
39:37on his ring schedule.
39:40We shall find out
39:41I'm sure
39:41in the days
39:42and weeks ahead.

41:28congratulations on

41:32but Ferdy first of all
41:33I want to thank
41:33Don King
41:34and the people of France
41:36for the hospitality
41:38they've shown us
41:38since we've been here
41:39and I want to thank
41:40my manager Jerry Atardi
41:41and my trainer

41:43for all the support
41:44and helping me
41:45get to this point
41:46right here
41:46I gotta ask you
41:48two questions
41:49that have been
41:49bothering me
41:50as a boxing guy
41:50one you got this
41:51tremendous right hand
41:52and you never followed
41:53it with a left hook
41:54that's a classical
41:54one-two
41:55why not
41:55when you did
41:56you killed him
41:56with it
41:57I hurt my left hand
41:59early like in the
42:00first round
42:00it was numb
42:02I couldn't even
42:02feel it really
42:03it's not broken
42:04well that's why
42:05we were saying
42:05in the ring
42:05what's happening
42:06with him
42:06he's not throwing
42:07how about body shots
42:08you seem to just
42:09be concentrated
42:10on this guy's head
42:10yeah
42:11I was starting
42:13to get ready
42:13to go to the body
42:14but I seen
42:14he started bending
42:15straight over
42:16and I didn't want
42:17to get caught
42:18with a headbutt
42:18or nothing like that
42:19so I just kind of
42:20headbutt right here
42:20trying to stick
42:22with my jab
42:22even though it
42:23was hurting me
42:23I still was
42:24trying to use it
42:25as much as possible
42:25all right

42:50his hand is fine
42:51it was a good
42:53experience actually
42:54to get it numbed up
42:55like that
42:55because he had it
42:56he took a guy out
42:57with only a right hand
42:58which is a pretty
42:58good fight
