In a powerful reminder against racial prejudice, Firdaus Wong shared a personal story addressing a common stereotype that converting to Islam makes someone “less Chinese” or “more Malay.”

He reminded that being born Chinese, Malay, Indian, Iban or Dayak is not a choice, but Allah’s decree.

Therefore, race should neither be a source of pride nor shame and it should never be used to judge others.

00:00Me being a Chinese, you being an Indian, you being a Malay, you being an Indian, a Daya, whatever, it's not my choice, it's not your choice.
00:08And the beautiful things about Islam is that Allah will not judge me and you based on your ethnicity.
00:15Many, many years ago, I think around 10 years ago, China Press, they sent a reporter in the interview.
00:23And one of the questions that they asked me is that, that question, they say, you know, Mr. Wong, that the Chinese community say,
00:34I mean, you just imagine that it was like 10 years ago, not now.
00:37That label is in there.
00:39And you know, they come, you are 13, 14 years old, you're still a very young boy without a beard.
00:44But today you are getting married, Alhamdulillah.
00:47And that reporter asked me, Mr. Wong, you know, the Chinese community say that you are Chinese,
00:53you are Malay, you are more Malay than a Malay.
00:57How do you answer that?
00:59And I say, how do you define Chinese?
01:04The Chinese-ness, how do you define Chinese?
01:07She cannot answer me.
01:08So I say, okay, if you say Chinese, it sounds like you eat poa.
01:12Right?
01:13So are you saying the Chinese who are vegetarian, they're no longer Chinese?
01:19Are they still Chinese?
01:21She said, yeah.
01:22Okay, so how Chinese you can be?
01:26Are you saying that Chinese must study in Chinese too?
01:29Maybe.
01:30I say, okay, then there's a lot of Chinese today who never study Chinese.
01:35So there are less Chinese then?
01:37Oh, maybe they can speak Chinese.
01:39Or that I can speak Haka, I can speak Hokyan, I can speak Cantonese, I can speak Mandarin.
01:44And where else there's a lot of Chinese today who can't even speak a word of Chinese.
01:47Other than she said, I love you or I, that's it.
01:51Or other than that, what make them so Chinese?
01:55Nothing.
01:56Basically, nothing.
01:57Okay, so I don't like to play along that line.
02:00But what I want to always share with people is there.
02:04Me being a Chinese, you being an Indian, you being a Malay, you being a Niba, a Daya, or whatever.
02:10It's not my choice.
02:11It's not your choice.
02:11And the beautiful things about Islam is that Allah will not judge me and you based on your ethnicity.
02:20Allah will judge you and me based on our piety, our ta'bah.
02:26Do you believe Ta'wah?
02:27Do you worship Allah a little bit?
02:29If you don't, regardless, you are the richest man in your country.
02:33You could be the most famous person in the world.
02:37But that doesn't count in the sight of Allah.
02:39If you do not believe in Moshe Hebrew.
02:42So that's what really called.
02:43And that is a great reason why Allah never told us the race and the ethnicity of Tonsa Kedemalaisa.
02:52And in the Quran and in the hard days,
02:54no way can be found that which race has been confirmed to go to Jannah.
03:00No particular race.
03:02The ones who are entering Jannah are the ones who have Ta'wah.
03:09And as I say,
03:10we're going to be the two children.
03:11All right.
03:15You feel the ones who are entering Jannah with a lot ofila and aint Sorry
03:32about how on and death.
