Transcript
00:00Tobago needs about a billion GT dollars to get what exists in Tobago from hotels to restaurants
00:07to all the tour operators to everybody to get everything back in operation properly
00:15to bring tourists back to our island and to increase.
00:19Now we know we're not going to get a billion dollars but we need money to try and get everything up.
00:24And we're not asking for free money. We're asking for things that will help us move tourism forward.
00:32Mr. McLean said a more reliable air bridge needs to be developed between Piarko and the A&R Robinson International Airport.
00:41Get the plant back and get all the rooms back. All the hotels need to spend money
00:45but until tourism gets back the way it needs to be, the banks are hesitant to give loans and all of that
00:51so the only place that could come through is central government.
00:55So we need that. The air bridge has to be fixed.
01:00The air bridge is a major problem, a major deterrent and it is not working.
01:05McLean said more direct international flights to Tobago are necessary
01:10and the new A&R Robinson International Airport terminal needs to be open as a matter of urgency.
01:18You can't leave the airport closed. The new airport terminal, that has to open 100%.
01:24So there's a lot to do and it'll take about a billion dollars to do it.
01:31He said government and the private sector must work hand in hand
01:35towards the revival of the Tobago tourism sector.
