00:00Oh, hi.
00:01Oh, yes.
00:02Do you come here often?
00:05Four sets of holiday hosts...
00:07Take care, take care.
00:08Bye-bye.
00:09...have stayed at each other's places.
00:11Today, with all the visits over, scores are settled.
00:15It's like someone had chucked a beef curry up the back of one of the curtains with a stain up there.
00:19...and the payments revealed.
00:20The place is amazing. It's absolutely amazing.
00:22Very humble, thank you so much.
00:25With four in a bed...
00:26It's just somewhere that you could just put your...
00:28Yeah.
00:29...been out your suitcase.
00:30Did anyone get a good night's sleep?
00:32He should have gone up and checked his rooms personally himself.
00:35I would be going in just to check the basics.
00:43It's the final day of the competition to be named Best Value Place of the Week.
00:48The rival hosts are assembling one last time...
00:51...to find out what they've been paid...
00:53...and settle some scores.
00:55So, everybody, it all comes down to this.
00:57Kicking things off are brothers Richard and Mick Fletcher...
01:01...who are first to host this week.
01:03Right, let's have a look.
01:06When they welcomed the guests to the George Inn in Tideswell, Derbyshire...
01:10Hello, welcome to the George.
01:12...for Laura and Lucy, first impressions impressed.
01:16It's light and airy.
01:18Beautiful windows.
01:19They are stunning.
01:20Amazing.
01:21Simon and Carol drank it all in.
01:23Fresh milk, fresh juice.
01:25Hey.
01:26Carol's milk.
01:27I knew I was coming.
01:28And Johnny and Sasha indulged in coffee culture.
01:31This is great, though.
01:32Easy to use.
01:33Yeah.
01:34I think it's pretty good.
01:35I do.
01:36It's a good offering.
01:37Yeah.
01:38But on closer inspection, not everything sparkled.
01:40Oh, my God, the extraction.
01:43It's blocked.
01:44There's dribble marks.
01:46Yeah.
01:47On the pillars.
01:48That's like a cigarette burn or something, I think.
01:50On the mattress.
01:51Yeah, it's on the mattress.
01:52Oh, dear.
01:53Sizeable stain there.
01:54This one there.
01:55No, that's quite bad.
01:56What's your thoughts on the staining up there?
01:59Oh, no.
02:00Nasty.
02:01What is that?
02:02It looks like curry.
02:03Come night-time, for Simon and Carol, the pillows were a pill to swallow.
02:08We found that one.
02:09Found this one.
02:10You've got quite a stained pillow.
02:12Next morning, Laura and Lucy lost their cool.
02:16It was far too cold and the heating needed to be on and it wasn't.
02:20So, come feedback.
02:21How did you sleep?
02:23Sleep.
02:24It was their frosty score.
02:25A five?
02:26Yeah, a five.
02:27That gave the hosts the chills.
02:29We have a five.
02:30It is frustrating.
02:32It's not good enough.
02:34Before tackling the sleep critique, first Richard and Mick want to clean up Laura and Lucy's
02:40cleanliness concerns.
02:41How clean was the Georgian?
02:43You gave us a five for that.
02:45It says attention to detail, not there.
02:48Would you explain a little bit more?
02:50When you started looking in the bathroom, one major telltale sign is the extractor fan.
02:55It was the big one that really you notice immediately when you walk in the door.
02:58And then you do start walking around.
03:00Because I think as soon as you enter a room, you see one thing, you start looking for others.
03:04There was a few housekeeping issues, some big like dribble stains on the actual pillows.
03:09It's like also on the curtains.
03:11It's like someone had chucked a part of a beef curry up the back of one of the curtains with a stain up there.
03:15Just basic cleanliness.
03:17Can't say that we were happy to find the stains and the cigarette burn on the mattress.
03:21No, of course not.
03:22It's something that you wouldn't expect to find in a room when you booked in.
03:25Did you personally check the rooms before we came?
03:28No.
03:29Right, OK.
03:30What I didn't want to do was do anything different to when anybody else arrives.
03:35We're aware we need to increase the housekeeping team.
03:39We have one person at the minute, but we have an additional person starting on Monday.
03:43We're planning to redecorate each room, put new carpets and curtains in.
03:48Clearly, there's issues for us to jump on when we get back.
03:51I think he should have really gone up and checked his rooms personally himself.
03:56Knowing you were getting some industry professionals in that are going to critique,
04:00I would be going in just to check the basics.
04:03We obviously appreciate all the feedback.
04:05Most of what has been flagged up were things that we were aware of to improve, replace, upgrade.
04:12I don't think we really had a shot. We knew what were coming, you know.
04:16Now Richard and Mick want to know why the girls weren't hot on their sleep.
04:20How did you sleep? We've got a five for that.
04:23It's hardly too cold for us. Radiators were not on.
04:26I just can't cope with cold. I need heat, otherwise I can't sleep.
04:30If I'd have been somewhere else, I just wouldn't stay. I know I wouldn't.
04:35We're in the Peak District and if we've got the heating on,
04:38I've had people complain the room was too warm,
04:40or we turn the heating off and it's on freezing.
04:42One of the things that we're looking at doing when the rooms get made over
04:46is putting individual control in.
04:48That is something that will be implemented.
04:51We have got plans afoot to put individual heating control in each room
04:56so individual guests can set the temperature to what they want.
04:59I think Richard and Mick have been really gracious.
05:03They've taken everything on board so smoothly.
05:06I think they genuinely will make those improvements.
05:09The brothers can now find out how much they've been paid.
05:13First up is Simon and Carol's stay, which came to £155.
05:18£120, £140, £145.
05:24That's an underpayment of £10.
05:26Yes, it's just the general cleanliness issues.
05:28OK. Perfectly happy with what you've said.
05:30Perfectly happy with what you've paid.
05:33Carol and Simon paid a few pounds under.
05:36It would have been unrealistic for them to have paid the full money
05:39having had a complaint or having had a criticism.
05:42Next, it's Johnny and Sasha's £157 stay.
05:46£120, £40, £142.
05:52That's an underpayment of £15.
05:55Absolutely right.
05:56The deductions are purely from the things that we raised about the room
05:59on the cleanliness side, and that is it.
06:01Thank you for payment, totally accepted.
06:03Thank you. Thank you.
06:05Yeah, the underpayment from Johnny and Sasha,
06:08fully accepting, knocking a few quid off for the criticisms that he raised.
06:12Finally, it's Laura and Lucy's stay, which came to £167.
06:1980, 100, 120.
06:22So that was a total underpayment of £47.
06:25Completely due to heating.
06:27And mine was to do with the cleanliness.
06:29But I do think you can sell it at that price once you fix those issues.
06:34Totally accept your reasons and accept the payment. Thank you.
06:38Laura and Lucy made an underpayment.
06:40However, they put their valuation on their stay.
06:44I cannot disrespect their view in any way, shape or form.
06:48With Cherry Tree Guesthouse underpaying by £10,
06:52Haystack's Country Retreats knocking off £15,
06:55and Clementine's Guesthouse withholding £47,
06:58the George Inn finishes with a final bill average of 85%.
07:03Next to face the feedback are Laura Johnson and Lucy Neville.
07:08I think it's our turn. Let's go.
07:13When they opened the doors to Clementine's Guesthouse in York, North Yorkshire...
07:17Hello. Hi. Morning. Hiya.
07:20All the guests were sweetened up.
07:23This is next level, isn't it?
07:24How cool is this?
07:25Like luxury, isn't it?
07:26Yeah.
07:27Wow. Yeah. I think the room is absolutely stunning.
07:29Four-poster bed.
07:31This is high-end. This is lovely.
07:33Come morning, appetites were wet.
07:35Oh, look at that. That's perfect. Fantastic.
07:38The eggs are amazing.
07:39The smoked salmon's top-notch as well.
07:41It is. It's really fresh. It's all really good.
07:43Which, come feedback, meant seamless scores.
07:46Excellent facilities.
07:47It's got to be a ten.
07:48It's got to be a ten.
07:49Immaculate.
07:50It's going to have to be a ten, isn't it?
07:51Yeah.
07:52I couldn't give them anything less than ten for that.
07:53I agree.
07:54I am completely speechless.
07:56I hope that everything will be reflected on payment day.
08:00Now at the table, Laura and Lucy want to muse over their reviews.
08:05We want to really thank you all for your amazing feedback.
08:09We got tens from everybody.
08:11It meant so much because it was actually a really emotional day
08:14and it really did mean so much to us.
08:16So really well deserved as well.
08:17You know, what a beautiful offering.
08:19There's lots of thought and detail and your passion shines through
08:22from the decor to the how you looked after
08:25to the fantastic breakfast.
08:27It was a great place to stay.
08:28The stay was perfect.
08:29Just keep doing what you're doing.
08:30Just keep doing it, yeah.
08:31These comments have just been so overwhelming.
08:34Neither of us are great at taking compliments.
08:38That's for sure.
08:39So it meant a lot.
08:40I was streaming with tears, so what a journey
08:43and very, very humbled to receive it from all of you.
08:47Very grateful.
08:50I think that to me is our win.
08:53We can go away and be really proud of what we've achieved.
08:56A little celebration.
08:57Yeah.
08:58Laura and Lucy can now count the cash,
09:00starting with Johnny and Sasha's stay, which came to £248.10.
09:07220.
09:08240.
09:09245.
09:108.
09:11And Tempe, so payment in full.
09:13Thank you so much.
09:14You're welcome.
09:15We loved it.
09:16We loved every bit of it.
09:17Absolutely loved it.
09:18Thank you so much.
09:22Thank you so much.
09:24Oh my goodness.
09:25Thank you so much.
09:26We've got £220.
09:27£230.10, so payment in full.
09:30Thank you, guys.
09:31Thank you so much.
09:32Well deserved.
09:33Loved it from start to finish.
09:34Beautiful place.
09:36Finally, it's Richard and Mick's stay, which came to £221.10.
09:43200, 220, 240, 250.
09:46So that is an overpayment of £28.90.
09:49Oh my goodness.
09:50Thank you so much.
09:51Yeah.
09:52We had a great time.
09:53The place is amazing.
09:54It's absolutely amazing.
09:55Very humbled.
09:56Thank you so much.
09:58Well, totally well deserved.
09:59Welcome.
10:01I was not expecting that, was you?
10:03No, I wasn't.
10:04The gratitude there was overwhelming.
10:07With both Haystack's Country Retreats and Cherry Tree Guesthouse paying in full,
10:12and the George Inn overpaying by £28.90, Clementine's Guesthouse finishes with a
10:18final bill average of 104%.
10:22With half the payments in, Haystack's Country Retreats is next to face their critics.
10:28There's only one way this competition's going at the moment.
10:31Clementine's up there, top runner.
10:34Yeah, definitely, but still got a bit to go yet, so let's just see what the end of the day brings.
10:39It's the final day of the competition to be named Best Value Place of the Week.
10:52Two sets of hosts have already found out what they've been paid.
10:56Next up, a couple, Johnny Brown and Sasha Smith.
10:59Make sure you get some answers now.
11:00Yeah, let's do it.
11:01Yeah.
11:04When the guests arrived at Haystack's Country Retreats in Burstwith, North Yorkshire.
11:09Hi guys, nice to see you again.
11:10Bye.
11:12They all felt they were in for a treat.
11:15Oh wow, what a location.
11:16That is a view.
11:17That is stunning, isn't it?
11:18Yeah.
11:20Oh wow.
11:21Wow.
11:22This is brilliant.
11:23Ah, this is lovely.
11:24Look at that view.
11:25You can't knock that view, can you?
11:26You can't buy it.
11:27Beautiful biscuits, cakes.
11:29I didn't expect that.
11:31But on closer look, Simon and Carol were left hanging.
11:34There's no hanging for the towels, is there?
11:36It'd be a quick fix to put a shelf or something in, wouldn't it?
11:39That evening, the guests soaked it all in.
11:42Hot tub, under the stars.
11:44Brilliant.
11:45Amazing.
11:46Cheers.
11:47But in the morning, Simon and Carol had baggage.
11:50The only thing we noticed was the lack of storage.
11:53You have to leave out your suitcase as such.
11:55Yeah, it was nearly enough, just a couple of shelves, just so you've got somewhere to
11:58put things.
11:59And come feedback...
12:00How were the facilities?
12:02The hut took a hit.
12:04Some storage would be useful.
12:06So, some storage needed.
12:07Some storage needed.
12:08Some storage needed.
12:09Shepard's Hut's always struggled with storage, it's not like a B&B room.
12:13Now, all together, Johnny and Sasha want to unpack Simon and Carol's comments.
12:18How were the facilities?
12:20Some storage needed.
12:21Would you like to just enlighten us a bit on that?
12:24Yeah, so when we first got in there, everything looked fantastic.
12:27It was only after you actually start bringing your things in and start realising that actually,
12:30where are we going to put things?
12:32Yeah.
12:33When we walked into the en suite, there was towels on the toilet.
12:36So maybe a corner shelf, maybe you could put towels on there and you've got somewhere to
12:39put your toiletries as well, because in there there's nowhere to put that unless you put
12:42them on the toilet seat or then you're moving around a little bit.
12:45And then for our luggage as well.
12:46It's just somewhere that you could just put your...
12:48Yeah.
12:49Rather than living out your suitcase.
12:50It is difficult on storage with the Shepard's Hut's and the Bothy, but there is room in the
12:55Bothy to do something, as you said, so I think that was a really valid point that we'll
13:00take on board and we'll address that.
13:02They had some good suggestions of quick improvements that we can make and definitely something we
13:07can do.
13:08Problems packed away.
13:09There's another question the pair want to dig into.
13:12The biggest thing to Sasha and myself was would you stay here again?
13:16And the thing that warms me the most is you all said yes, you'd come and stay with us again
13:20and that is just a wow factor for us.
13:23Myself, I admit I had a fantastic time there.
13:26The tub was just the highlight for me, fantastic.
13:29For me, camping is not my sort of go-to thing.
13:31I had the best time.
13:32It was just great fun.
13:33I'm glad you enjoyed it.
13:34It was super.
13:35Super.
13:36We had a really amazing stay.
13:37It was beautiful.
13:38That must be the best glamping experience you could have in the country.
13:42Lucy's been converted.
13:43Yeah.
13:44We'll take that.
13:46Hearing all your kind words and comments about our place, it does mean an awful lot
13:50to us.
13:51It's a special moment, isn't it?
13:52Yeah.
13:53Very proud.
13:55I think it just goes to show how much time and effort they've put into this business.
14:01They've delivered on everything.
14:02Genuine, gorgeous people.
14:04Johnny and Sasha can now reach for the readies.
14:08Starting with Laura and Lucy's hut, priced at £150.
14:12£120, £140, £150, payment in full.
14:18Thank you very much.
14:20It was fabulous value for money and we had an amazing stay.
14:22Good.
14:25Next, it's Simon and Carol's Bothy, which cost £175.
14:29£140, £160, £180, £200.
14:35Thank you ever so much.
14:36It was an overpayment of £25.
14:38Worth every penny.
14:39Worth every penny.
14:40The fact there's a lot of things, the overall, with the experience as well, is worth more
14:43than what you're charging.
14:44Thank you very much.
14:45Thank you indeed.
14:46Just incredible.
14:47We're really, really chuffed for that.
14:48Yeah, we're really chuffed.
14:50Finally, it's Richard and Mick, and Mick's hut, priced at £150.
14:56£140, £150, £160, £170, £180, £190, £200, which is an overpayment of £50.
15:10Worth every penny.
15:11Your place is absolutely fantastic and you've got so much on offer.
15:15It does, it means the world to us, it's emotional.
15:18Thank you very much indeed.
15:19Well, Richard and Mick's overpayment, what's your thoughts on that?
15:22£50.
15:23Just blown away.
15:24Yeah.
15:25I was speechless, really chuffed.
15:28With Clementine's Guesthouse paying in full, Cherry Tree Guesthouse overpaying by £25,
15:34and the George Inn tipping by £50, Haystack's Country Retreats finishes with a final bill
15:40average of 116%.
15:45Last up, couple Simon and Carol Bray can finally face the feedback.
15:50It's our turn, shall we get started?
15:52Yeah.
15:53When they welcomed their guests to Cherry Tree Guesthouse in Bridlington, East Riding of Yorkshire.
16:00Good morning.
16:01Good morning.
16:02Good morning.
16:03Welcome to Cherry Tree.
16:04They were all pleased with their pads.
16:06Oh, wow.
16:07This is nice and bright.
16:08This is lovely.
16:09Oh, it's really cute.
16:11Oh, such a chocolate bars and snacks and what have you.
16:15Clearly there for me.
16:16But on closer inspection, Laura and Lucy creased up.
16:20I had to touch the duvet in under the mattress so that it could get a real tight, clean line.
16:25The place didn't scrub up for Johnny and Sasha.
16:28Oh, there's a lot of urine stains and bits of splash back.
16:32Oh, that's a shame.
16:33Come evening, Laura and Lucy got under the covers.
16:36There's quite a few rules.
16:38You've got to make sure the doors are closed.
16:40You've got to be quiet after 10pm.
16:42Next morning, the breakfast was bang on the money.
16:45It's as good as a full English breakfast can be.
16:47Yeah.
16:4810 out of 10.
16:49Really, really good breakfast.
16:50But come feedback.
16:51How were the facilities?
16:52It was Laura and Lucy's thoughts on facilities.
16:55We found the guest book a little strict for us.
16:58And a final bed tuck is needed, isn't it?
17:00Yeah.
17:01That left the hosts pondering.
17:02Not quite sure what that means.
17:04It's definitely a question to ask just so they can explain it a bit more to us.
17:08Before Simon and Carol tackle Laura and Lucy, they have a marked response for Johnny and Sasha.
17:14How clean was the Cherry Tree guest house underneath the toilet seat, a stain from a previous guest?
17:20I was gutted.
17:22The marks on the...
17:23When you lift...
17:24You just lifted the toilet seat up to have a wee, it was there all round the underside of the seat, so...
17:28I'm sorry.
17:29I'm sorry you did find it.
17:30We're not making any excuses for it.
17:31No, no, no.
17:32That shouldn't have happened.
17:33Thanks for your feedback.
17:34Carol and Simon's reaction was a positive one.
17:36And that won't happen again, I'm sure, in their establishment.
17:39Comments cleared up.
17:41It's Laura and Lucy's turn to come clean.
17:43How were the facilities?
17:45We found the guest book a bit strict for us.
17:47So if you could just elaborate on that for us, please.
17:49For me in particular, particularly with the ten o'clock, the no food in the rooms, whatever,
17:54I would be very conscious about not wanting to upset anybody and I do think that would affect my stay.
17:59Right.
18:00I would potentially wouldn't stay out for that extra drink because I would want to be back.
18:03Yeah, it's not actually a ten o'clock curfew.
18:05We don't lock the doors at any time.
18:06We've had guests come back at three in the morning.
18:08It's just for our bone protection or our death protection.
18:11Knowing you, you'd be lovely anyway.
18:14It wouldn't be a problem.
18:15Right.
18:16Obviously, just when you first walk in and read it, you could perhaps think, ooh.
18:19From when we started to five months down the line now, are some of these things actually unnecessary?
18:23Because they haven't happened yet.
18:25Mm.
18:26They probably aren't going to happen.
18:27They don't need to be in there.
18:28I think we will revisit it now and maybe do some tweaks to it.
18:32And final bed tuck needed.
18:34Until five months ago, I only used to chuck a duvet on the bed.
18:38I like the beds to be really tucked all the way under and so smooth you can't see a crease and pop the bounce coin off it.
18:45That's my saying always.
18:46The sides as well.
18:47Yeah.
18:48It just means you can sort of iron out the creases by using tucking methods rather than having to go around ironing everything.
18:54Oh.
18:55I think it would be really beneficial to come and shadow you two and learn all your tips.
19:00It's the little things and then hopefully it will take care of the bigger things for us.
19:04Time savers.
19:05Seriously, thank you both for that.
19:06There was a couple of insights there.
19:07Yeah.
19:08We were definitely taking them on board.
19:09You know, someone comes in the room and they see that, they think, ooh, that looks comfy.
19:13Yeah.
19:14We'll give it a go.
19:15Yeah, definitely give that a go.
19:16Simon and Carol can now find out what they've been paid.
19:19Starting with Laura and Lucy's room, priced at £110.
19:2480, 110.
19:27Full payment, thank you very much.

19:41I'm really chuffed.
19:42Yeah, very pleased.

19:44Next, Johnny and Sasha's room, costing £120.

20:05Finally, it's Richard and Mick, and Richard's room priced at £110.
20:09100, 120, 140, 150.
20:14It's an overpayment of £40.
20:16Worth every penny.
20:17You're underselling yourself, I think.
20:19You're worth a lot more than that, and that breakfast was just amazing.
20:22I don't know what to say.
20:24Sorry.
20:29I was really surprised, and Richard and Mick gave us an overpayment of £40.
20:32Very much emotional.
20:33Yeah, I certainly wasn't expecting it.
20:35Really, really good of them.
20:36With both Clementine's Guesthouse and Haystack's Country Retreats paying on the nose,
20:42and the George Inn overpaying by £40, Cherry Tree Guesthouse ends the competition
20:47with a final bill average of 112%.
20:52With all the payments in, it's down to Laura to reveal the results.
20:57Are we all ready to find out who the winner is?
20:59In fourth place, the George Inn.
21:03Yay!
21:06Yeah, coming in fourth wasn't a surprise to us.
21:09We'll definitely take away the new friendships made and ideas and tweaks that we've learned
21:16from other people.
21:17And in third place, Clementine's Guesthouse.
21:22We came in third.
21:28Obviously, everybody wants to be a winner, but it was a tough crowd.
21:31Which means the top spot is between Haystack's Country Retreats and Cherry Tree Guesthouse.
21:37And the winner is...
