00:00I'm good at bouncing in bed, aren't I?
00:04Four sets of holiday hosts
00:06Bye!
00:07Have stayed at each other's places.
00:09Today, with all the visits over, scores are settled.
00:13The towel rail was cold.
00:15We got our handy guy to go and have a look.
00:17Yeah, he seemed to think it was okay.
00:19And the payments revealed.
00:21It's been so much hard work.
00:23Oh, you're setting me off now.
00:25With four in a bed...
00:27We were, from me to you, to a beer garden.
00:29Did anyone get a good night's sleep?
00:31Tabitha and Steve seem quite upset.
00:33That's unfortunate how the competition goes.
00:35A little bit of hypocrisy.
00:44It's the final day of the competition to be named
00:47Best Value Place of the Week.
00:49The rival hosts are assembling one last time
00:52to find out what they've been paid
00:54and settle some scores.
00:56It's crunch time. Let's get down to business.
00:58Let's get down to business.
00:59Kicking things off, our friends Kerry Mackenzie
01:02and Vicky Billingham, who were first to host this week.
01:05Shall we take a look?
01:06Yep. Let's get some answers.
01:09When they welcomed their guests to the Redmire Village Pub
01:12in Redmire, North Yorkshire...
01:14Hiya. Hiya.
01:15Hello. Welcome to the Redmire Village Pub.
01:17Ben and Holly thought they'd cleaned up.
01:19Oh, wow.
01:20Yeah.
01:21Feels really fresh.
01:22It's modern.
01:23And Dominic and Anna were sweetened up.
01:25I love my teas and coffees and biscuits seem really nice as well.
01:28But when Tabitha and Steve arrived,
01:30although they were excited by the exterior...
01:33Looks great.
01:34Once inside, they were introspective.
01:37I don't think the room reflects the surroundings.
01:40It's very functional.
01:41It's not what I would expect.
01:43Next morning, Tabitha lost her chill.
01:46Small issue.
01:47The towel rail was cold.
01:49Which led to cool feedback.
01:51How were the facilities?
01:52I think it's a six.
01:54Yes, I think I'm in agreement.
01:55We've got a six.
01:56Yeah, I'm going to be looking for answers on payment day about that.
02:00Now face to face, Kerry and Vicky can drill down on the details.
02:05So, facilities, you gave us a six.
02:08Room felt stark and functional, not warm and welcoming.
02:11The pub itself downstairs was amazing.
02:15We were really expecting to go up to a room
02:18and get that lovely Yorkshire village feel.
02:22The location was wonderful, but what looked fantastic was out the window.
02:26The design of the room, I think it's just what the owner was looking for.
02:30But, yeah, we appreciate not everybody likes that,
02:33but we want to add some things to it, don't we?
02:35Yeah.
02:36So it says, towel rail, not working.
02:38The towel rail was cold.
02:40Mm-hm.
02:41I turned it up to high to see if it would make a difference,
02:43but even turned on high, we had no heat from it.
02:46We actually got our handy guy to go and have a look at it.
02:49Yeah.
02:50And he seemed to think it was OK.
02:53But...
02:54Nobody's said anything before, so whether it was just an issue there, but...
02:57We'll keep an eye on it. Yeah, yeah, definitely.
02:59I mean, it may have been an issue, something that we did,
03:01but we had it turned on to full.
03:03Tabitha and Steve went a bit harsh on us.
03:06I think when you put so much work into something,
03:08when it's not to everybody's preferences, you do get a bit irked.
03:12I definitely stand by all of our comments that we made.
03:15I think the group dynamics have changed slightly now.
03:18I'm not so sure.
03:19Kerry and Vicky took their feedback very well.
03:22Kerry and Vicky can now find out how much they've been paid.
03:26First up, it's Dominic and Anna's room, at £110.
03:30£80, 100, £110.
03:35On the nose.
03:36We had a lovely stay.
03:37Yeah.
03:38Yeah, it's reasonably priced.
03:39It was fantastic.
03:40Thank you very much, guys.
03:42Next, it's Holly and Ben's room, costing £120.
03:4690, 100, 10, 120.
03:51On the nose again.
03:53You're very welcome.
03:54Yeah, it was a lovely room.
03:55It was really great value for money.
03:56Thank you so much, guys.
03:57Thanks so much, guys.
03:58Finally, it's Tabitha and Steve's room, also at £120.
04:0480, 100, 110.
04:07That's a £10 under payment, Tabitha and Steve.
04:10Can you explain?
04:11There's a few issues and the fact that the room didn't marry up with the pub.
04:16Yeah, we understand that.
04:17Yeah, we absolutely understand.
04:18Thank you so much, guys.
04:20Steve and Tabitha's under payments annoyed me slightly.
04:23I'm in agreement with you.
04:24It seems a bit harsh.
04:25I think Kerry and Vicky are probably a little disappointed,
04:27but at the end of the day, we paid what we felt was right for the room.
04:33With the Bull Inn and the Yorkshire hosts both paying in full
04:37and Copper Beach glamping knocking off £10,
04:40the Redmire Village pub ends the competition with a final bill average of 97%.
04:47Next to face their feedback are couple Holly Harper and Ben Dean.
04:50Let's get down to the nitty-gritty.
04:54On arrival at the Yorkshire hosts in Harrogate, North Yorkshire,
04:58while Kerry and Vicky digged their digs...
05:00Oh, wow. Oh, wow. This looks lovely.
05:03The others found parking a bump in the road.
05:06£147.50 a night.
05:09We've got to pay parking on top of that.
05:12Oh, look, 1680.
05:13I mean, if you're staying here for a long weekend,
05:15that's going to ride out pretty quickly.
05:17Hmm.
05:18Once everyone was checked in...
05:19Oh, wow.
05:20Yeah, this is great.
05:22OK.
05:23Wow.
05:24Next morning, the night's sleep was less than satisfying.
05:27Awoken by the sunlight this morning.
05:29Yeah.
05:30There was a bit of an issue with noise.
05:32Just not used to it,
05:33so I think that kind of delayed my sleep a bit.
05:36But at feedback...
05:37How were the facilities?
05:38It was the lack of a spot to stop...
05:41The parking was a little inconvenient when we arrived here.
05:43Parking is a little bit of an issue.
05:45..that stopped the hosts in their tracks.
05:48We are super central
05:49and we don't offer parking as part of the accommodation.
05:52It's definitely game time now.
05:55But before putting the brakes on the parking problem,
05:58Holly and Ben want Tabitha and Steve to shed some light.
06:02So, for sleep, you scored us a seven,
06:05which we were a little bit disappointed with, weren't we?
06:07Early morning light through blind.
06:10Yes, you got a lovely high-end set of blinds in the window,
06:13but you couldn't actually stop the light from coming in.
06:16It's an issue when we have an early sunrise, four o'clock.
06:19Because they're so new,
06:20we've not done a summer with those blinds,
06:22so this is news to us
06:24and we can perhaps implement something, a blackout some way,
06:27to stop that early sunlight coming through.
06:29Exterior noise, disturbed sleep.
06:31We're used to complete silence.
06:34There's a cafe next door,
06:35the extractor fan stopped at about two o'clock in the morning
06:38and then the bin men came just after four in the morning.
06:42There has been some soundproofing done in the bedrooms, haven't there?
06:46Yeah.
06:47But obviously noises are still getting through,
06:48so it's definitely something we should look at.
06:50Yeah, and unfortunate that that morning
06:52the bin men decided to come and enter at four o'clock.
06:55Sorry about that.
06:56At the end of the day, people need to have a good night's sleep.
06:59Bin days and builders, what can you do?
07:02Sleep put to bed.
07:04Holly and Ben want to pull up Dominic and Anna.
07:07So, for facilities, parking is a small, expensive issue.
07:12Could you elaborate?
07:13The price of the car park was quite expensive.
07:17I agree with the car parking issue.
07:19You do seem to be penalised for taking your car into Harrogate.
07:21You know, the car parking is an additional cost
07:23that we have to put on top of your prices really, isn't it?
07:26Obviously we don't have parking on site,
07:28so we do have to direct you to different car parks.
07:30I suppose the other side of it is,
07:32we're right opposite the train station and bus station,
07:35and so we do get a lot of our guests travelling in that way.
07:38Parking, unfortunately, I didn't want it to be a negative point,
07:42but it has become the main one.
07:44But I think that just speaks volumes for our apartments
07:47and how lovely they are.
07:49It's not just about the car park.
07:51It's when you add everything together,
07:53that's when it becomes an issue.
07:54It's just an extra expense.
07:57Holly and Ben can now cash up.
07:59Starting with Kerry and Vicky's apartment, costing £160.
08:04120, 140, 160. On the nose.
08:08Absolutely.
08:09It was well worth its money.
08:11You've got it on the nose. It was really, really good.
08:15Next, it's Dominic and Anna's apartment at £147.50.
08:20120, 130, 140.
08:24So that's an underpayment of £7.50.
08:27It is expensive to park in Harrogate.
08:28And perhaps just so we didn't sleep very well.
08:30So those are the main two issues.
08:31It seems that parking is just, again, one of those things out of our control.
08:33And as for the sleep, that is a key factor to staying anywhere.
08:36So we can look and see what else we can do.
08:38it's Tabitha and Steve's apartment also priced at 147 pounds 50 120 140 so
08:45that's a underpayment of seven pound fifty it is expensive to park in
08:49Harrogate and perhaps just so we didn't sleep very well so those are the main
08:53two issues it seems that parking is just again one of those things out of our
08:58control and as for the sleep that is a key factor to stay in anywhere so you
09:02can look at see what else we can do but yeah we are really sorry about that I
09:06think we could have got let off a little bit lightly from Tabitha and Steve
09:09but ours was only seven pound 50 underpayment we got the answers that we
09:12needed didn't we yeah the general consensus is the apartments are amazing
09:16we're amazing parking's a little expensive with the Redmire village pub
09:23paying in full and the Bull Inn and Copper Beach glamping both holding back seven
09:28pounds fifty the Yorkshire hosts finishes with a final bill average of 97%
09:34with half the payments in Copper Beach glamping are next to face the critics we
09:40had some sort of differing scores with our very different feedback I'm not
09:44confident in our chances I think we could be for a substantial underpayment
09:50it's the final day of the competition to be named best value place of the week two sets of hosts have
10:01already found out what they've been paid next up our couple Tabitha and Steve Cartmail right
10:07shall we get this done yeah when the guests gathered at Copper Beach glamping in
10:14Woods Eve Staffordshire morning everything's ready for you in Shepherd's View at first the
10:19huts hit the spot oh wow this is really lovely it is yeah into the bathroom okay this is big a two
10:28person shower in a shed is quite impressive if that's what glamping is all about sign me up any day but for
10:34Holly and Ben the mezzanine missed the mark it's a little bit cozy it's interesting it's a sort of
10:40coughing vibes and come morning they weren't raving about their rest so how did we sleep not great you
10:47up and down all night waking me up on the stairs and then I was trapped in the corner of the bed not
10:53being able to go to the toilet I've got a little bit chilly about 2 a.m. I did try to get the electric
10:58radio to work in but I couldn't get it going with breakfast baskets delivered here's your deluxe
11:04breakfast um hope you enjoy while Dominic and Anna ate with their eyes oh wow they look really good
11:10Ben and Holly sank their teeth in plastic container that's surprising Essex not that local the no the
11:19gems aren't local but at feedback it was the sleep that suffered yeah it was very broken I don't feel
11:26recharged do you know I don't how did you sleep broken sleep and don't feel recharged they're not
11:32happy bunnies are they they'll be one or two questions asked on payment day now all together Tabitha
11:38and Steve want to turn the heat up how are the facilities you scored us a seven couldn't get
11:43radiator to work yeah we struggled with the electric radiator sort of waking up first thing in the
11:49morning it was freezing and we just couldn't get it to work it was working before you came I went in
11:57and checked obviously once I'd read your comments I went in and checked and it was on 20 degrees so I
12:02don't know what happened it was just that point was uh waking up to coldness it that that sort of
12:09uncomfort there that's all the plus or minus button on the side is literally press the plus to increase the
12:14temperature minus to decrease the temperature but I apologize if for some reason it wasn't working
12:18during that one night the comment about the radiator didn't really land well but we couldn't get the
12:24heating on so we're not going to lie about it radiator it's obviously something I'm going to need to look
12:30into I think if you'd actually said it's not working at all we have plug-in electric heaters I
12:34could have bought one over for them radiator reviewed now they want to know why Ben and Holly didn't wake
12:40renewed how did you sleep you scored us a six there broken sleep and don't feel recharged and
12:47when it comes to getting up in the night to go to the toilet I was a little bit trapped wasn't I
12:52yeah so it's sort of a thing of waking each other up to get down the stairs which just ended up meaning
12:58that we didn't really get a lot of sleep on our website on our advertising we're very very clear that
13:03the bed is on a mezzanine accessed by a ladder we tried initially the bed the other way round it
13:09wasn't as safe because the end of the bed was right up against the ladder and also it meant that
13:14the head of the bed and your pillows were blocking the window off as well and it's such a lovely view
13:18out of that window yeah we do appreciate it it's quite tricky yeah it was just an observation ceiling
13:26too low tricky ladder you can't stand you are crouched and the ladder we had no problem getting up and
13:32down did we it was it was more the noise the squeakiness of it so if you've not already disrupted
13:37the person's sleep by clambering over them you're definitely doing it by the the squeak ladder up and
13:41down yeah I'm really disappointed that you know you didn't have a good night's sleep because that's
13:46one of the things we really want all our guests to have thank you for your feedback the solution we
13:52have now we feel is the best and we understand it's a compromise at the end of the day don't we we
13:58do Tabitha and Steve can now count the cash starting with Kerry and Vicky stay which came to 161 pounds 50
14:06160 161 pounds and 50 pence exactly what we asked for the experience was unique and it was well worth the
14:14money that's great thank you very much next it's Dominic and Anna's 204 pound 50 stay 80 200 205 pounds
14:25so that's an overpayment of 50p would you like to explain we thought it was exceptional value for
14:31money it was fantastic we loved it that's great thank you thank you Dominana's payment 50 pence over I
14:38do you think you didn't have any change I think have an overpayment of anything is just shows how well
14:44you're doing your business yeah finally it's Holly and Ben stay totaling 163 pounds 50 140 150 150
14:56pounds and 50 pence that's a 13 pounds underpayment the way we've kind of broken it down is underpayment
15:03of 10 pounds for the rough night's sleep and the cold as well it's sort of the bare necessity of
15:11of staying over somewhere is a good night's sleep and warmth and then we also underpaid by three
15:16pounds because we felt that the breakfast hamper was everything was decanted into these glass jars
15:22which were obviously great and then the yogurt was just sort of plugged in there in a plastic container
15:27and the jams were from Essex so we didn't quite think it married up with the ethos apologize for not
15:35having a good night's sleep we didn't have a particularly good night's sleep at yours and
15:38didn't feel the necessity to knock 10 pounds off
15:41that hamper where possible the yogurt does come in a glass jar and it's homemade yogurt that I've done
15:49time got away from me and I didn't have time to make homemade yogurt and I'm really sad that there
15:54isn't local jam and marmalade in there there is somebody that makes jams however they will not
15:59supply in single serve jars they will only do large jars so yeah we slightly disappointed but if that's what
16:06you felt your say was worth then we accept that thank you tabitha and Steve seem quite upset about
16:13our underpayment and that's unfortunately how the competition goes they've underpaid twice yeah
16:18throughout so a little bit of hypocrisy everybody judges differently and attaches a different monetary
16:25value to a different experience with the red my village pub paying in full the bull in overpaying by 50
16:33pence and the yorkshire hosts underpaying by 13 pounds copper beach glamping finishes with a final
16:39bill average of 97 last to confront the critics a married couple dominic nicholas and anna taylor
16:47crunch time let's get some answers let's do it when the guests jumped into the ring at the bull in
16:54hiya hello welcome to the bull in they found the place outstanding in its field oh wow it's quaint and
17:01cozy yeah oh look you'll have a good stay oh it's lovely and clean it's rustic but but with such a
17:10modern feel to it it's yeah it's really really nice how it's been done but come morning Kerry and
17:15Vicki bared all for me there's real privacy issues here yeah you're constantly having to shut the
17:21curtains yeah everyone's looking in at breakfast the bull in hit a bull's-eye sausages black pudding
17:29the bacon top quality really really tasty yeah it's lovely really nice but at feedback Kerry and
17:35Vicki had views the privacy is the big issue here major issue with privacy the pub is not open till 12
17:4212ch Lui and everyone should have checked out by then now around the table dominic and Anna can
17:47focus in on Kerry and Vicki's viewpoint how are the facilities major issue with privacy the room we were
17:54in we were from me to you to a beer garden we've not really had those complaints yet I think if you
17:59want to go for a nap or in the afternoon you're gonna get change you constantly got a close curtains
18:04have no pubs not open until 12 so in the morning it's not really an issue in the evening if you want
18:08pop in and change or have a nap or completely see the point and we're definitely going to invest
18:12and get some probably some metting or blinds put up it's definitely something we'll rectify
18:18asap now dominic and anna can reach for the readies starting with kerry and vicky's room
18:23priced at 105 pounds 80 100 and five that's a full payment i think if it wasn't for the privacy
18:33issue we we'd said we would have paid you more we definitely think you could charge more for
18:38your rooms thank you very much so much that's so good to hear i was blown away by their payment i
18:43mean they obviously raised some constructive points i suppose just shows all the hard work
18:47on everything else that we provided they were really pleased with next it's holly and ben's stay
18:52at 138 pounds 80. 140 148 80. that's an overpayment of 10 pounds i just didn't want to leave he's moving
19:03in i just think that what you're offering is just really good value for money which is why i've
19:10overpaid really really high volume you could definitely charge more oh wow thank you ever
19:15so much that's um yeah lots of words it's really nice of you thank you with ben and holly their
19:21comments and overpayment from them was overwhelming definitely finally it's tabitha and steve's room at
19:29105 pounds 100 120 120 120 250 that's an overpayment of 17 pound 50 and what you provided was outstanding
19:41value for money and i'm sure you could put your prices up it was absolutely the kind of place we
19:45would choose to come stay i'm blown away i've got nothing to say honestly it's been so much hard work
19:52it has as well oh you're setting me off now just thank you really yeah it's nice to be validated
20:01thank you everyone it's well deserved yeah well done it has been hard and uh it's just even throughout
20:08the competition we always doubted ourselves and when we were reading your feedback guys we couldn't believe
20:14that you valued our place as much as you have and having fantastic feedback um just on that day
20:22it still hasn't sang through to be honest with you i'm still waiting for a final feedback or
20:36yeah it's been a roller coaster with the redmire village pub paying the full amount the yorkshire
20:42hosts overpaying by 10 pounds and copper beach glamping tipping 17 pounds 50 the bull in ends the
20:49competition with a final bill average of 108 with all the payments in it's down to ben to reveal the
20:57results well guys i've been given the honor of delivering the results and we have a three-way tie
21:04for second place wow wow wow and those are copper beach glamping
21:15we knew it was going to be close yeah i'm joint seconds joint second isn't it yeah the yorkshire host
21:20do you know what i'm over the moon yeah a three-way tie at second place really please we couldn't ask for
21:29more and read my village pub which means that the winner is the bull in
21:40i'm blown away i never thought we were going to win it i thought we were going to learn a lot from
21:49people that have been in the trade congratulations to dom and anna at the bull in
21:57well done guys we've had a fantastic time haven't we really enjoyed myself dom and anna well deserved
22:04winners as far as i'm concerned to the winners cheers i would just like to say we couldn't have asked for
22:12nicer hosts in this competition so thank you so well deserved so well deserved you do all the work in
22:18that place and it was just so nice for someone to recognize you and you pull so much weight for our
22:26family it was just too much thank you
22:56you
