00:00One, two, whee!
00:03Four sets of holiday hosts
00:05Oh wow, it's got some bling
00:07Check in to each other's places
00:09Hello, welcome to the George
00:11And get to grips with one another
00:13We came here and found there was an issue with rodents
00:16They chewed some wires, the place nearly caught on fire
00:19You must have been very resilient
00:21We're pretty tough people
00:22We've got a lot more empathy for him and his brother now
00:25They've embraced a difficult challenge
00:28Today, the guests are made up
00:31Oh yes, I can see it working
00:33As they battle
00:36Change my perception on Seaside B&B completely
00:39For the better
00:40To be named Best Value for Money
00:42A ten
00:43God, I'm not expecting that
00:45The final visit of the week
00:54Is to Bridlington in the east riding of Yorkshire
00:57And Cherry Tree Guest House
00:59Owned by Simon and Carol Bray
01:01A couple who know each other like a book
01:04Carol's a lovely person, a very genuine person
01:06Sees the good in everybody
01:07Simon is the most chattiest one
01:10I do tend to finish all your sentences
01:12You do
01:12A bit like then
01:13Yes
01:14Guests looking for a full stop
01:19Can pick from five rooms for up to £120 per night
01:22Including breakfast
01:23Based on a two-night minimum
01:25In a place the hosts think hits the spot
01:28Our rooms are high standard
01:30We pride ourselves on providing a really warm, friendly welcome
01:34A comfortable night to stay
01:35And then a really umptious breakfast
01:38Made with love by Carol
01:39And when it comes to being judged
01:44This duo have the jitters
01:46It's going to be quite nerve-wracking
01:47More so than having normal guests in
01:51Because we know they're there to critique it
01:52However, if they pick up on things that we've missed
01:55Or things that we can improve
01:56That would be superb
01:57About to arrive
01:59Are today's first guests
02:01So what's with the hat, bro?
02:04So the...
02:05Oh!
02:06I'm the haircut
02:07A cut above the rest
02:10Our brothers Richard and Mick Fletcher
02:13Of the George Inn in Tideswell, Derbyshire
02:16Earlier this week over drinks
02:18Simon and Carol disclosed their destination
02:21We would class ourselves as a small
02:24But traditional seaside guesthouse
02:27So today, Richard and Mick are debating details
02:31I'm expecting Simon and Carol's place
02:33Is going to be nicely done
02:35One up from perhaps what we experienced as kids
02:38It's not going to be the old lumpy mattress
02:40With the spring sticking through, I don't think
02:42I'm looking forward to it
02:43It's going to be pretty cool
02:43Nice, isn't it?
02:47I like the building
02:48Yeah
02:48I like that kind of architecture
02:50Let's go and have a look
02:50Yeah, why not?

03:14Mmm
03:15With Richard and Mick set for a sweet stay
03:18Today's next guests are taking a breather
03:20Can you smell the fresh sea air?
03:23I can't yet
03:24I can't yet
03:25Are we near?
03:26Good, we actually are
03:27Oh, I can actually
03:27Yeah, we must be near
03:28Because that is the sea
03:30That is the sea
03:31Broadening their horizons
03:34Our friends Laura Johnson and Lucy Neville
03:36Of Clementine's Guest House in York, North Yorkshire
03:40At the start of the week over drinks
03:42Simon and Carol turned over a new leaf
03:45Me and Carol have been in hospitality
03:47For the whole period of five months
03:50Wow
03:50So today, Laura and Lucy are freshening up
03:54It's very brave of them
03:56To enter a competition like this
03:57When you are so new
03:59It'll be really interesting
04:00Yeah
04:00To find out how progressed the business actually is
04:03Hello
04:05Hi
04:05Good morning
04:06Good morning
04:07Welcome to Cherry Tree
04:08Thank you so much
04:09You've been staying in the drove room tonight
04:10It's priced at £110
04:11Thank you very much
04:13Thank you
04:13Oh, it's really cute
04:18I love that
04:19It's a new take on flock wallpaper, isn't it?
04:22Yeah
04:22As Laura and Lucy feather their nest
04:25Today's final guests have eyes on the road
04:27I think you should be driving
04:29I've done all the driving, really
04:30No, you're far too critical of my driving
04:33But you do hit the kerbs
04:35Oh, OK
04:36Johnny Brown, I'm the best driver ever
04:38Staying in lane
04:40Are couple Johnny Brown and Sasha Smith
04:43Owners of Haystack's Country Retreats
04:45In Burstwith, North Yorkshire
04:47Last time out over drinks
04:49Cheers
04:50Cheers
04:50Cheers
04:51Simon and Carol revealed
04:53They could do it in their sleep
04:54If you weren't doing this
04:55What would be your dream job?
04:57I think we've got our dream job
04:58We're doing it now
04:59We're doing it now?
05:00Oh, wow
05:01It's not like working
05:02We're managing to do what we want to do
05:03When we want to do it
05:04That's the plan
05:04That's a great answer
05:05So today
05:07Johnny and Sasha
05:08Have the dream ticket
05:10So Carol and Simon
05:12Have described this
05:13As being their dream job
05:15They obviously enjoy working together
05:16They obviously enjoy
05:18The role of running a B&B
05:20I think they'll be very attentive
05:21I think they'll be very professional as well
05:23And I think they'll be brilliant hosts
05:25Good morning
05:27Good morning
05:28Great to see you again
05:29Welcome to Cherry Tree
05:30You'll be staying in our circus room tonight
05:32Priced at £120 per night
05:34Hope you have a lovely stay
05:35Thank you very much, lovely
05:36Thank you
05:36Thank you
05:37Thank you
05:38Oh, wow, this is nice and bright
05:41This is lovely
05:41I did expect a clown
05:43When they said the circus room
05:44Is it me or is it you?
05:46It'll be both of us
05:47With the hosts out of the way
05:51The guests can get a taste
05:52Of the Cherry Tree
05:54Yeah
05:54The bed seems nice and comfy, bro
05:56Very clean
05:58Lovely
05:58Looks inviting
05:59Yeah
06:00Loads of space
06:01It's clean
06:02Matching hangers
06:03You'd use it, wouldn't you?
06:04Yeah, you'd use it
06:05Lovely
06:05I like that there's no water left in the kettle
06:08It always annoys me a little bit
06:09If you've got some old stagnant water
06:11Still in there
06:12Very clean
06:14Yeah, they're on top of the housekeeping
06:15Fresh water
06:17And fresh milk
06:19That's a cute fridge
06:20It's nice
06:20I like a bit of chocolate
06:22There's quite a few goodies there, isn't there?
06:24That's a bit of me
06:25Is that I like that
06:26Oh, oh, oh
06:27Slection of chocolate bars and snacks and what have you
06:30Clearly there for me
06:31And I think for you, Richard
06:33You've got a selection of very nice coffees
06:34I like the fact that it's striped linen
06:36Yeah, I do
06:37That always means it's higher quality
06:38But add a touch of the duvet in
06:40Under the mattress
06:41So that it can get a real tight, clean line
06:43You've got some coffee stains on the fridge
06:46Where somebody's spilt coffee
06:48Just needs a bit of a wipe
06:49Oh, this is comfy
06:52Lovely
06:53Yeah
06:54There's a bit of debris in this drawer
06:56And a few little hairs
06:58I love the fact that there's a couple of nanoblankets
07:01Yeah, yeah, that's nice
07:02Just layering up a little bit
07:04Oh, gorgeous floor
07:06Big, isn't it?
07:07Massive shower
07:07It is a massive shower
07:09I think there's a good amount of things for toiletry selection
07:11If the shower's not clean, normally there's an odour from it
07:15And that's as fresh as a daisy
07:16No
07:17Oh, there's a lot of urine stains and bits of splash back
07:22Oh, that's a shame
07:23Room inspection's almost over
07:25Richard and Mick are going all in
07:27I've got two hands and there's two chocolates
07:29You know what I mean?
07:31Laura and Lucy are taking a load off
07:33Oh, that feels quite comfy
07:34Yeah, it does
07:35It's quite squishy
07:35Squishy beds?
07:37Yeah
07:38And Johnny and Sasha bite the dust
07:40Shush
07:41All right
07:43It's a bit dry
07:45In 2014, Bridlington's Old Town was transformed into 1940s Britain
07:57As the filming location for the movie of Dad's Army
08:00Today, hosts Simon and Carol are advancing to victory
08:04With a visit to nearby Sewerby Hall
08:07Once we get in the manor house, it's always nice to get some new ideas
08:11Pocket bit of furniture to take home
08:13What we're doing, carrying sidebar now
08:15Yeah, they'll never know
08:15And showing the guests around
08:19Welcome to Sewerby Hall and Gardens, everyone
08:21Is education officer, Robert
08:23This was the home of the Lloyd Graham family
08:26It was a family home for about 200 years
08:28Until 1934
08:30When Bridlington Corporation purchased it
08:32And opened it to the public in 1936
08:35We restored the house in 2013
08:37To the way it had been when it was a family home
08:39What would the purchase price have been in 1934?
08:42Around about £46,000
08:44I'll give you £50,000 for it now
08:46It's a beautiful property
08:50It's got a lovely history
08:51It's great that the local authority have bought it to keep it as a community asset
08:55It's interesting, it's a guided tour
08:58I do like old houses
08:59I do like to know the history of them
09:00With the house hitting the mark
09:03The group head inside
09:04So this is the blue bedroom
09:07It's the sort of furniture that you would have found in a bedroom of about 18, 19, 19, 10
09:12And we've got some cleaning equipment
09:14And also period costumes that you might want to try on
09:18Go on Johnny, go and get one of them dresses on
09:19Got yellow on there
09:20You might struggle with the yellow ones
09:22Why, is it a bit tight?
09:23Yeah
09:23Oh that'll fit me better
09:25Time, give me a hand at the back
09:27It looks like he's no stranger to the dress, doesn't he?
09:30I know that to get it on
09:31He knows how to put a rock on, that guy
09:33There's very little chance of this coming together
09:35I don't think it's my size
09:37Give us a twirl
09:38I mean, Johnny in a dress is just where I want to see them
09:42Oh yes, I can see it working
09:45There you go
09:47Sasha and Johnny are always bubbly, always happy
09:51They really do help to keep the group on and up
09:54Everybody's got on so well all week
09:56Well, with payment day round the corner, let's hope that continues
10:00Group dressed down
10:02They head out to the gardens
10:04Where Sasha wants to hear more about the budding business
10:07When we were driving in we noticed there's quite a few B&Bs and guest houses
10:11Do you have a community?
10:14So yeah, we do have a community
10:15It's the Bridlington Tourist Association
10:17We joined the committee recently
10:19That's the joining committee there
10:19So we're involved in that as well
10:20So it's there just basically to raise the profile of Bridlington
10:23Also a lot of the local councils that are trying to attract things in
10:26Not just for like one day events
10:27But trying to do it for two day events
10:28Which then obviously means people are staying over
10:30They're using the restaurants, the bars
10:32Gets people in that wouldn't normally maybe come for an event
10:34And then they come back
10:35Because they like the place
10:36We've had
10:37Darts are on this weekend
10:38Right
10:38But there's big events come here as well
10:40We've had
10:41Lots of singers
10:41Yeah
10:42Jay McDonnell, the entertainers
10:44Paul Heaton's coming
10:44Paul Heaton's coming
10:45Put you on the map
10:46Put you on the map, exactly
10:47Yeah, yeah
10:47Simon and Carol
10:49We've got to know them quite well
10:51Yeah
10:51From a personal point of view
10:52And we've had good fun with them all the way through
10:54Yeah
10:54Really looking forward to finding a little bit more about them
10:57As business people
10:58Yeah, definitely
10:59And with the sun setting
11:01And some guests keen to learn more
11:03It seems the afternoon has left spirits high
11:06I think we've had a great day
11:07Hopefully that trend can continue into the evening
11:10With being served some nice drinks by Carol and Simon
11:12Looking forward to it
11:14G&T's all round
11:15The final visit of the week
11:24Is to Bridlington
11:25In the east riding of Yorkshire
11:27And the Cherry Tree
11:28Where some guests are getting to the root of the issue
11:31I was just thinking I'd close the curtains
11:34To have a shower
11:35And I noticed it doesn't come all the way across
11:37There's houses right across the other side of the road
11:39So I suppose that is a problem
11:41There's quite a few rules
11:42You've got to make sure the doors are closed
11:45You've got to be quiet after 10pm
11:46I do struggle with when you are paying the price you would
11:50For a hotel room
11:51To not have the same freedoms
11:54Tonight, hosts Simon and Carol
11:57Have invited their guests to the local
11:59Cheers
12:00Cheers
12:00Cheers
12:01Cheers
12:01And with glasses raised
12:03Sasha is keen to know all
12:05Carol and Simon
12:06We're really interested to find out more about you two as a couple
12:09In our previous lives we worked in retail
12:11And you had to go and get rid of all the cardboard off the shelf
12:14So we met down the baked bean aisle
12:16Oh, how romantic
12:18Well, it obviously works
12:21Because it's 24 years down the line
12:23Going from that
12:24Who said, tell you what, let's get, you know
12:25A bed and breakfast or a guest house
12:27I think it was a natural thing
12:28Something that we thought that, you know
12:30In 9, 10 years this is what we'd do
12:32Everyone was saying like, oh, you're so brave
12:34And we thought, yeah, it's not brave
12:35It's something we want to do
12:36How long between you taking over and kind of moving in yourselves and opening it
12:40So we moved here last year on the 21st of August
12:44And we opened on the 1st of April
12:46Well, all I would say, my friend, is the very best to you
12:49Thank you very much, you dear
12:49That's very kind
12:50Thank you
12:50Yeah
12:50They're very, very new to what they're doing
12:53They've taken a great leap, a great plunge
12:55As far as I'm concerned, they've nailed it
12:57Pear praised
12:59Simon wants some guidance from his guests
13:01We are relatively new
13:02Well, very new to this industry
13:04If I could ask each of you one piece of advice, what would it be?
13:08I'd say keep doing what you're doing
13:09Bless you
13:10I'd say it's definitely the people that you surround yourself with
13:14Even if you're working on your own
13:15It's the connections you make with the local area, the things like that
13:18That is what will keep you going
13:19Keep polishing it, keep going forward
13:21Always improve, continued improvement
13:23Well, thanks for that
13:24We've taken over what you said
13:25Yeah, it was really informative
13:26Thank you, yeah
13:27Just trust in what you're doing
13:28Trust in yourselves
13:29Yeah
13:29I have so much respect for Simon and Carol
13:33So genuine when they say, what advice do you have?
13:36Like, they are taking it all on board
13:37Yeah, they are
13:38I wish them well
13:38I think they're on the very start of a journey
13:41And I hope they enjoy it
13:42Yeah
13:42So we're nearing the end of the week
13:45Do we all feel like we've learnt some valuable bits from this experience?
13:49Definitely
13:50Yeah
13:50I've learnt a lot from this experience
13:52You do, you glean from different people's establishments
13:56You see stuff
13:57I think we've got a real variety amongst us as a group
13:59Yeah, it's different
14:00It's very hard
14:01Not one similar
14:01To compare one to the other
14:03But you still can take bits and pieces
14:05Yeah, you can
14:05Yeah
14:05I think I've met some lovely people
14:08Stayed at some nice places
14:10Yeah
14:10All I can say, cheers
14:12Cheers
14:12Cheers
14:12It's been very interesting and we've learnt a lot from the experience
14:16We'll see what payment day brings her
14:18That'll be interesting
14:19Won't it?
14:21Yeah
14:21Drink's done
14:23It's all in for Lights Out
14:25Good night
14:26It's a brisk morning in Bridlington
14:34Where Richard and Mick are taking in the sea air
14:37How did you sleep last night?
14:39Slept like a log
14:40Woke up about an hour and a half later than I normally do
14:42So, no issue at all
14:44Back at the guest house, prep is underway
14:50And for hosts Simon and Carol
14:52It's out of the frying pan and into the fire
14:55We're feeling a bit pressure this morning
14:56Of course we are
14:57But we're going to try and enjoy it
14:58Hopefully
14:58Nice rum service
15:00All nicely cooked fresh for them
15:01And hopefully they'll all enjoy it
15:03And with everyone seated
15:05Morning
15:06Morning
15:06Morning
15:07Morning
15:07Simon is out for the orders
15:09What can I get you, please?

15:12Perfect, thank you very much
15:13Two fried eggs, baked beans and toast, please
15:16OK

15:32The devil's in the detail
15:35The dinky teapot and everything matching
15:38Is very cute, isn't it?
15:39Yeah, I love the crockery selection
15:41Yeah
15:41There's not the supported me
15:42It gives a nod to the olden days
15:45Yeah
15:45Of the
15:45Traditional
15:46Seaside B&B
15:47Yeah
15:48Like the old-fashioned butter knife
15:49Yeah
15:50Kind of thing
15:50Grandma would have had that into it
15:51It definitely adds another element
15:53To the breakfast experience
15:54The matching crockery
15:56Yeah
15:56It was quite quaint, wasn't it?
15:57Yeah
15:58Very cute
15:58Made it that bit more special, didn't it?
16:00It did
16:01Back in the kitchen
16:02That's done as it is
