Let's start off with our sports betting news and topics of the day.
00:03
Alex Boris is a New York Assembly member.
00:06
He filed a bill that will prohibit licensed New York sports betting operators
00:09
from limiting size and frequency of deposits of wagers of authorized sports bettors.
00:15
I'll break it down for you.
00:16
The state of New York wants you to be able to bet on as much as you possibly can
00:21
if you are a winner.
00:22
Basically, some sports books will limit you if you win,
00:25
and they don't want that to happen, so that's part of it.
00:27
Now, as far as the deposits are concerned, still remains to be seen who exactly that is targeting,
00:31
but the state of New York is kind of stepping out here,
00:34
saying if you win money, you shouldn't be limited to bet in the future.
00:37
Meanwhile, the prediction market saga continues with a company called Polymarket,
00:42
who are ready to launch its prediction markets in the United States,
00:45
offering contracts on both sports and election events.
00:49
Newly typed certified sports contracts include Moneyline, Spread, and Total.
00:55
Seems a lot like sports betting to me.
00:57
Stay tuned.
00:58
Los Angeles Dodgers, World Series champions a year ago.
01:01
They're the first team in the wildcard round to advance to the next round.
01:05
Eight to four, the final.
01:06
The Dodgers easily take care of business in game one, in game two.
01:09
Nice year for Cincinnati getting into the postseason, but not much more.
01:12
Mookie Betts with a home run in a big game yesterday.
01:15
Basically getting involved in the action,
01:17
as well as Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who picked up the win.
01:20
Here is Mookie Betts after the game on wanting more than just a wildcard win.
01:25
But, obviously, I know we can win the whole thing.
01:29
We just have to play good baseball.
01:32
We have to continue to pitch, timely hitting, and play defense,
01:36
and everything should be okay.
01:38
Is it fair to compare last year's team with this year, too?
01:41
I mean, not really, just because we're just two different teams.
01:46
You know, last year we didn't have as much start in pitching.
01:50
This year we have, you know, pretty deep in start in pitching.
01:53
And, you know, I mean, just different players.
01:56
You know, we brought back a lot of guys with the vibe.
01:59
Everything is just different.
02:00
It's a different year.
02:00
And so, you know, we just enjoy where we are.
02:04
Let's get now to the Yankees-Red Sox series,
02:09
which will culminate this evening in the Bronx.
02:11
Great game yesterday.
02:12
Final score, 4-3.
02:13
Yankees end up winning a back-and-forth game throughout.
02:16
But the Yankees pick up a run late, thanks to Jazz Chisholm Jr.
02:19
playing in the game, sliding at home to pick up the game-winning run.
02:23
Aaron Boone talked about just how exciting the game was last night
02:26
with the Yankees getting the win.
02:27
Yeah, what a game.
02:29
You know, I mean, it's been two great games, these first two.
02:35
You know, a lot of big plays on both sides.
02:38
You know, we turned – I thought our defense tonight was, you know,
02:42
really, really good.
02:43
Turned a couple big-time double plays.
02:46
Did some good things on the bases.
02:48
A homer by Benny to get us rolling.
02:51
And then, you know, the bullpen closing it down after Roto gave us enough there,
02:57
even though he struggled a little bit there in the seventh,
03:00
to get us, you know, through six, set us up and able to hang on.
03:05
But what a game.
03:07
Yeah, like you said, it was a battle.
03:09
We knew that coming into the postseason.
03:12
That's what we talked about there the last stretch of games.
03:15
It's going to be fighting tooth or nail to get it done.
03:18
And obviously that was, you know, yesterday's game and today too.
03:21
So, yeah, that's the way the postseason is.
03:24
And come back and do it tomorrow.
03:26
Game three tonight under the lights.
03:29
Meanwhile, in the friendly confines this afternoon,
03:32
the Padres and Cubs will finish off their three-game series.
03:34
Yesterday, all Padres starting pitching, relief pitching, getting the job done.
03:39
Also, Manny Machado with a big hit.
03:40
Three to nothing the final for the Padres.
03:42
The story for San Diego has been this incredible bullpen
03:45
that they fixed together during the trade deadline.
03:48
Mason Miller, Robert Suarez both shutting things down
03:51
and could be asked upon if they have a lead today to get it done.
03:54
Here's Mike Schilt on the victory and Manny Machado on his big hit.
03:59
Mike, a number of really good at-bats today.
04:01
I was wondering about Tatis as a bat before Manny
04:04
and then you go into Manny's unleashing one.
04:07
Yeah, no, absolutely.
04:08
I thought the at-bat quality yesterday was really high as well.
04:13
Not as much a show for it.
04:15
Again, at-bat quality, fantastic.
04:17
You hit the nail on the head, Ace, with, you know,
04:20
Totti getting it started even in the, you know, first inning.
04:23
And then later, you know, a tremendous at-bat.
04:26
And then, Manny does his thing, puts a beautiful swing on it
04:29
to give us, you know, a little bit of cushion there for sure.
04:32
I mean, I saw a split.
04:35
You know, he threw it to me and Totti earlier in the game.
04:39
It was pretty, pretty good.
04:41
So, just trying to get something.
04:44
You know, he throws that fastball up in the zone
04:46
and change up off of it.
04:47
So, I mean, you really can't sit on anything,
04:49
but just kind of try to get something on the dish.
04:53
Very tight game between the Guardians and Tigers yesterday afternoon,
04:57
going all the way down to the finish
04:58
until Steven Rocchio ended up hitting a home run
05:01
to break a 1-1 tie.
05:03
Also, Josh Naylor getting involved.
05:05
And the Cleveland Guardians tie up the series
05:07
with a 6-1 win over Detroit.
05:11
So, now they'll head to a Game 3,
05:13
which will be at 3.08 Eastern today.
05:16
It's been back and forth, nip and tuck, as they say.
05:19
Good pitching, not great bullpen effort yesterday from Detroit.
05:22
Here is Steven Vogt on getting the big hit
05:25
and also getting the most out of a Major League debut
05:29
from Chase DeLauter.
05:30
That was huge.
05:31
I mean, it was 0-2 count, I believe,
05:32
and he's just ready to fire.
05:34
And those last couple innings, it was not easy to see.
05:37
And our guys jumped on Melton pretty well.
05:40
And Bo was such an unbelievable at-bat off Herter.
05:43
And for us, it was a frustrating day offensively for us.
05:47
Two hits leading into the eighth.
05:49
And for our guys to explode like that
05:51
and kind of get some separation felt really good.
05:53
Chase, that was an unbelievable debut.
05:55
I thought everything about it was great.
05:58
His bats were outstanding.
06:00
He could have easily let that play in the first inning,
06:02
rattle him, and take him out of the rest of the day.
06:04
Tanner picked us up huge in that inning,
06:06
getting the three punch-outs.
06:08
But really impressed by Chase's at-bat quality
06:10
and then obviously the outfield play
06:12
after the sun ball in the first.
06:15
It was outstanding.
06:18
Meanwhile, in the National Football League tonight,
06:21
a point spread that just keeps growing and growing.
06:24
The Los Angeles Rams are up to seven, seven and a half,
06:27
maybe eight in some spots
06:28
against their division rival, the San Francisco 49ers.
06:32
Why is this happening?
06:34
Well, the 49ers will not have Brock Purdy,
06:37
Ricky Pearsall, or Jawan Jennings
06:40
to go along with George Kittle and Nick Bosa.
06:43
Yeah, the 49ers are just that banged up.
06:45
Total of 45 and a half going into tonight's game.
06:47
Game time decisions and in-game live
06:49
will have you covered there.
06:50
Lamar Jackson missed Wednesday's practice.
06:52
They're saying he's uncertain to play against the Texans.
06:55
All indications point toward him not playing this week
06:59
for Baltimore against Houston.
07:00
Meanwhile, Zach Taylor has some big decisions to make,
07:02
especially if the Bengals can't come through this week.
07:06
It's been a really tough go for backup Jake Browning
07:09
since Joe Burrow got hurt.
07:10
Bengals just struggling to score.
07:12
Here's Taylor on Browning getting another shot this week.
07:15
Do you feel like you need to add competition
07:17
at quarterback for Jake at this point?
07:20
I don't.
07:20
I think with every position, we're always assessing.
07:23
That's Duke's job.
07:23
That's the personnel department.
07:25
They do a great job of that.
07:26
Presenting us options when Joe went down
07:28
of other guys we can bring in the room as well.
07:30
So we thoroughly exhaust that.
07:32
I've got a ton of confidence in Jake.
07:34
I'm unwavering in that.
07:35
I've seen the best of Jake.
07:37
I know that we can do a great job supporting him
07:39
to where he can go winning games for us.
07:41
So I feel extremely confident in Jake Browning.
07:44
All right.
07:44
Meanwhile, AJ Brown says his social media post
07:47
not directed at the Eagles this past week.
07:51
Brown, naturally, is one of those guys
07:54
that seems like he's going to have issues
07:56
no matter what happens with the Eagles.
07:58
Even when they win, they're undefeated, AJ.
07:59
Come on.
