Transcript
00:00Derbyshire traffic cops it does have warning markers for potential firearms
00:13police a thousand square miles
00:21it's a crash crash you've got any other injury other than your head with some of the UK's most
00:29dangerous roads now nobody's been killed out of this I don't know it's scary when stuff like
00:36this happens in life-and-death situations get on the ground you'll be chasing we've got runners
00:42face down yes yes successful stick around every corner it's a great acting mate there's a new
00:55challenge for the traffic cops coming up
01:12unlicensed drivers on the run banned from the roads this is the second time so this is not
01:24going to go down well is it and speeding in the fast lane just blocked him doing 126 miles an hour
01:33leads to a medical emergency
01:38okay I'm just leaving recently near the start of a night shift traffic cop Matt cooling is heading out
02:00on patrol oh god not doing this thing for a long time Matt's police Derbyshire's roads for over five
02:14years night shifts for me are they it's the time to go out you know and sort of hunt and catch criminals I do enjoy catching people that you know doing stuff that they shouldn't be doing
02:25The vehicles pass me I just don't like the look of it
02:32I just had a dock sit on a vehicle just running me through please
02:40you do get a sixth sense of when something's not right you know the coppers knows that instinct of
02:50something's not right as you got a driving license you got details to do a deal check
02:55yeah we do know the suspect who is driving this vehicle it's showing us no insurance
03:00yeah that's great thank you I'm gonna go for a compliance stop if it fails to stop
03:07which I think it might do you've got a spare car promenade Oscar tango mobile units have I got any units free
03:14that you've just on your feet please
03:17bell to stop
03:20so Silver Saab
03:26estate
03:27branch driver suit tee 5 I performance funny part
03:32road conditions are dry weather's dry no other traffic or pedestrians
03:36or though to continue please
03:37Continue, please.
03:39Based on everything you've told me so far, pursuit is authorised.
03:43Speed is in excess of 6-0.
03:46Single white male occupant in all the descriptions.
03:53And it's the wrong side of a keep left bollard.
03:57This will overtake a member of the public.
04:00It doesn't matter the fact that it's late at night.
04:03All it takes is a mistake or an error of judgement.
04:06And, you know, the driver's going to crash.
04:08You know, of course, the consequences could be massive.
04:10He's got sparks now off his front offside wheel.
04:13I don't know if he's got a puncture or something.
04:17It's offside on double white lines.
04:20Now back to the correct side.
04:24It looks like he may have issues with his front wheels.
04:27It's a massive balancing act, you know, when we're pursuing vehicles.
04:30And you have got to weigh up the dangers that are present
04:34and what potentially might happen ahead of us, you know.
04:36But, you know, these people don't care.
04:38Speed is 7-0 and a 3-0.
04:45Yeah, it's the wrong side.
04:46I'm going to keep left bollard at the roundabout.
04:49It's overtaking more members of the public.
04:53Now back to the correct side.
04:54I think he's got no brake pads on his front.
04:57Every time he breaks, I'm seeing sparks.
04:59Yeah, going up to a set of traffic lights.
05:04DRAs, high.
05:06Well, through on red.
05:07Stand by.
05:09Yeah, we've got through.
05:10Member publics had to stop.
05:15Possible decamp into an estate.
05:17Light traffic.
05:18They're all members of the public.
05:19Reaching a dead end, the suspect makes a run for it.
05:32Matt and other officers give chase.
05:34Stop.
05:47He's gone.
05:49He's there.
05:49Stand back now!
05:50Get out!
05:51I do struggle to understand why people just don't stop.
06:21Ultimately, they've got to go away completely scot-free.
06:24And the chances of that are slim to none.
06:27The consequences of not stopping and then driving dangerously
06:30far exceed what would have happened.
06:33The driver just pulled up and stopped straight away.
06:37So the potential now is that they're facing imprisonment.
06:42At court, the man received four months in prison
06:46and a two-year driving ban.
06:51I'm done on this.
07:06I need a vehicle check, please.
07:13That's controlling a three-seven.
07:15Traffic cop Jim Payne is behind a suspicious car.
07:18Audi A3 Sport in black.
07:26Insurance not held.
07:28No reports present.
07:31Anybody around in case this does want?
07:37The man behind the wheel of the Audi
07:40is the disqualified driver pursued by Matt Cooling.
07:43We tend to work more as a team
07:47so that when we do come across a car
07:49that we think it's got the potential to fail to stop.
07:52We've got resources there to safely deal with it.
07:55Just up at 29, Jim, coming up.
07:57I'll just keep following it while it's just driving like it is.
08:02Oh, it is.
08:02Driving very cautiously at the minute.
08:06He's obviously very conscious that we're behind.
08:09The end game is to get them stopped
08:10without them causing risk to other people,
08:13other members of the public, other motorists.
08:16You want me in front or you go in front of the mark?
08:18You can go in front.
08:19OK, mate, I'll wait to just pass the central red.
08:31With another unit behind, the officers attempt to stop.
08:41There we go.
08:44You've got a vehicle failing to stop.
08:47Go again, 2-7.
08:48There's no other traffic.
08:50DRA low currently.
08:54Yeah, 1-3-7.
08:56It's a left, left, left.
08:59Have we got local units, please, with Stinger?
09:032-0, 6-1 travelling.
09:05Jim, where are you? Towards.
09:07I'm dealing with you.
09:08You can see it was authorised.
09:09Continue with DRA.
09:11Just gone through a stop line without stopping.
09:14As you're driving, doing the commentary,
09:17you've got a lot of things going around in your head,
09:20but you've still got to try and get it clear in your head
09:22who's going where.
09:23It's coming up to the roundabouts.
09:25I think that's where you are, isn't it, Stu?
09:28Yes, yes.
09:28Stinger's out, stinger's out.
09:33Vehicle stung? Vehicle stung?
09:37OK, he's took a right, right, right.
09:40After being stung.
09:41Speed is 6-0.
09:48I don't know if he's looking somewhere to decamp it.
09:51He's struggling to make the turns now.
09:53I think his front offside's gone.
09:55Struggling to control the vehicle.
09:56He's up on the pavement.
09:59Can't see it lasting much longer.
10:01It's scraping away now on the rim.
10:07He's got both tyres gone.
10:09Yeah, both tyres are completely gone.
10:11They're both front tyres.
10:15Coming up.
10:17Oh, there we go.
10:18Another tyre.
10:19The pursuit continues.
10:22Let's see if we can both miss on you.
10:23I've got to the left.
10:25But the driver's not giving up.
10:28Oh, there's a damage.
10:30And a speeding car on the motorway.
10:36The reason I've stopped you
10:37is because I've clocked you doing 125 miles an hour.
10:40Raises suspicions.
10:43So how do I know you are, who you say you are?
10:45I'm not lying to you.
10:46There's no point to lying.
10:47I think it's late at one for the time being.
11:04On the outskirts of Chesterfield...
11:06Traffic cop Jim Payne is pursuing a disqualified driver.
11:15Yeah.
11:16Look at us for a decant.
11:17I'll just try blocking him in.
11:20What's the point?
11:21After serving a four-month prison sentence
11:26for leading traffic cop Matt Cooling
11:28on a dangerous 30-minute pursuit...
11:31Every time he breaks, I'm seeing sparks.
11:3315 months later, the same man is once again
11:39desperately trying to get away from officers.
11:42He's lost both front tyres.
11:45Every turn he's struggling to make, obviously,
11:47being on the rims.
11:50Oh, where we going?
11:50One, two, three, one.
11:51Another tyre.
11:54Can't be long now before he just doesn't make a corner.
11:57Yeah, straight through red lights towards town.
12:11With several units in pursuit behind Jim,
12:14the team prepare to bring the Audi to a stop.
12:18I've got to the left.
12:21Straight through, I'll get the across.
12:24Oh!
12:25We've got damage, we've got damage, we've got damage.
12:27He's got damage.
12:37He's got damage.
12:42Can't get him, it's this car.
12:45Grab your food.
12:50Hands behind your back.
12:52Hands behind your back.
12:52Yeah, it's been arrested mate, failing to stop, dangerous driving, you don't have to say anything but it may hold any defence, you don't make sure you're unquestioned, so if you do say you may be given an evidence.
13:09We'll shoot off to custody if you can book him in.
13:16In the last year, there have been nearly 45,000 convictions for unlicensed and disqualified driving.
13:24It's disappointing ultimately, we've got obviously a police vehicle damaged, he's just increased his speed, so it's left us with no option really.
13:31He showed with his man who was driving, he wasn't going to stop, he's got no intention of stopping, and obviously now we're in a town centre, where to put it to a stop so that obviously no one got hurt.
13:39We've found a small quantity of what appears to be cannabis with a female, it's in her bag, so they might be under the influence as well of drugs, so we'll obviously do some further checks once we get back to custody in relation to that.
13:52You know, if there had been other stuff on the road then it potentially would have been a lot worse.
13:57Maybe the reason why he's just not stopped is just because he's banned.
14:01You know, at the end of the day, if he'd have just pulled over and stopped, he'd have probably just got reported at the roadside, had his vehicle seized, and that would have been the end of it.
14:09Obviously, with what he's done now, he's possibly looking at a custodial sentence.
14:14What was he in prison for last month?
14:27No licence, no insurance, he was placed in prison for four months, he swallowed the value for 26 months, and until the test passed.
14:39I'm sorry.
14:41At custody, traffic cop Alex Head is charging the driver.
14:45So just to sum up, we've got driving a vehicle dangerously, driving a vehicle whilst disqualified, driving a vehicle when there's no third party insurance, failing to stop for officers, and also failing to provide in custody when required to do so.
14:58Do you understand all those charges?
15:00OK.
15:01Because of his prior convictions, the man is straight off to court.
15:05So, the suspect has now been charged. He'll be put before the court this morning.
15:11Because of his driving history, he'll most likely get a custodial sentence.
15:15The fact he's been involved in a failed to stop, it's aggravated by the fact he's been involved in dangerous driving.
15:20That's aggravating the fact he's driving whilst disqualified.
15:23So that will increase his likelihood of getting a sentence.
15:41Ten miles south of Chesterfield, Alex is now halfway through his 12-hour night shift.
15:48I'm just parked up the M1 on the entry slip, looking for speeders.
15:55Moments later, a car speeds past.
15:59Now it's in case I'm trying to catch up with him.
16:04So the car I've just seen driving past at a silly speed.
16:10I've managed to get behind it now.
16:12It's a white BMW.
16:14So we've just clocked him.
16:16He's doing 126 miles an hour.
16:18So, yeah, it's a stupid speed and you need to speak, isn't it?
16:23Even little potholes or little bumps in the road surface can unbalance the car.
16:30And if you're not used to dealing with that, you're crashing at that speed.
16:34You're talking about a fatality, straight away.
16:37N8 Tang 043.
16:39Just come across the vehicle.
16:41M1 North.
16:42Could I just pass you the details, please?
16:44Vehicle is a white BMW.
16:46Tell me who the vehicle comes back to, please.
16:50Tell me who the vehicle's insured to.
16:52Yeah, Semba, I'll just check.
16:55Yeah, comes back.
16:57No insurance, how old?
16:58Yeah, N8, that's received.
16:59You should be aware of my presence now.
17:01I'm going to put a follow me board off in here and look for a compliance stop at this time.
17:07So I've got my follow me board on and I pull him into the services.
17:15Right then sir, if you wouldn't mind turning your engine off for me.
17:30Yes.
17:31Do you have your driving license on you?
17:33Unfortunately, no.
17:34Right, okay.
17:35I can give you a name if you need to.
17:37The reason I've stopped you is because I've clocked you doing 125 miles an hour.
17:41That's how fast you were going.
17:43Alright.
17:44This vehicle's also showing us having no insurance.
17:47I am car trader.
17:48You're a car trader?
17:49Yes.
17:50Right, okay.
17:51Do you have a policy?
17:52Yeah.
17:53Yeah, yeah.
17:54Okay, so if you could show me your policy.
17:55Yes.
17:56Okay.
17:57What's in the back?
17:58Can I have a look?
17:59Yes.
18:00It's like some stuff.
18:01He's like buying some cars.
18:02Oh.
18:03Can you see F4 receiving 4-3?
18:06With his suspicions raised.
18:08Go ahead.
18:09Alex calls traffic cop Dan Mitchell for backup.
18:17This car is just full with boxes of electronic goods.
18:24Like rum to the rafters.
18:26Okay.
18:27I'll go away to you.
18:29So all these things?
18:30Yeah.
18:31Where are they from then?
18:32Two or three people, which have been put on the Facebook market playlist.
18:37Very about sorry, Alex.
18:38Hi there.
18:39Oh, that is full.
18:43That's very full.
18:46Thing is, gents, you can obviously understand, it looks a bit strange when we've got lots of
18:50packages of stuff.
18:52There's parcels here which have also addressed to other people.
18:55How long have you had this trade play?
18:57Oh, just like two weeks.
19:00Car trader and car boot trader.
19:02Yeah, you know we do everything.
19:04Yeah.
19:05Like Del Boy and Rodney.
19:08But why are you driving a car that you haven't got a license for?
19:10Because he's very tired.
19:12Oh, just stop.
19:13Huh?
19:14Just stop.
19:15I'm not making some accident.
19:16Just stop.
19:17So, the worst thing you can do is allow someone else who hasn't even got a license to drive
19:22a car.
19:23I got the license but you know the thing, the plan was you know from home.
19:26Where's your license?
19:27Home?
19:28But you can't find his driving license.
19:29Nope.
19:30He doesn't even have a picture of it.
19:32I don't think he's even got a license.
19:34Yeah?
19:35So he's not got a license.
19:36Very, very tired.
19:37I know you say you're very, very tired but unfortunately you're about to become a little
19:40bit more tired.
19:41Because at this time we're going to be seizing your car under 165 the road traffic act.
19:44The onus is on you guys to provide us with the proof that you've got driving licenses,
19:49insurance and all that sort of stuff.
19:50You can't do that, listen, you can't do that here.
19:53So I'm not going to stand here arguing all night because we've got other things to do.
19:57So the vehicle's going to get seized and you'll get reported for the offence of.
20:02If you're allowing someone to drive your car when they don't have a license and they
20:07don't have insurance, you're guilty of letting that person drive.
20:11Okay.
20:14I have a trade policy.
20:17I lead you to driving the car 45 minutes.
20:20I lead you to drive until you're going on the service.
20:23Right.
20:24Only on the service.
20:25So what's this then?
20:26Yeah, policy.
20:27Policy.
20:28Trader policy.
20:29So there's two people named on this policy, okay, which is you and your wife.
20:35Okay, he's not even mentioned.
20:37It doesn't even say, this policy doesn't even say that anybody else can drive this vehicle.
20:40So unless you stated on your policy that you want cover for anyone to drive the car, then it doesn't cover everyone.
20:48Maybe it's not saying on that.
20:50If it doesn't say on that, then it's not going to work, is it?
20:53You know.
20:54You can't just ring up and go.
20:55Oh, actually, can you just change your policy to anyone to drive quickly because I've been stopped by the police.
20:59I have whipped him here to test the car.
21:02Ten minutes.
21:03No.
21:04How about ten minutes?
21:05No.
21:06Only I left you ten minutes.
21:07No.
21:08Okay. Right.
21:09So if you found into the back of someone else and killed someone, whose fault's that?
21:12Yours?
21:13Mine.
21:14Because you were tired?
21:15Mine.
21:16Or his fault because he's got behind the wheel?
21:17No, mine.
21:18So are you forcing him to drive the car?
21:19Mine.
21:20So you can have a ticket as well.
21:21You're not covered.
21:22I have.
21:23I'm not covered on that.
21:24But if he's next to me.
21:25Okay.
21:26No, no, no.
21:27It doesn't work like that.
21:28It doesn't work like that.
21:29We're going around in circles.
21:30You're not insured.
21:31You shouldn't have been driving.
21:32You're driving too fast.
21:33You don't have a license.
21:34End of.
21:35Okay?
21:36My concern right now is finding out who you are.
21:39Because you've given me some details.
21:41You've given me details, which doesn't come back to anyone.
21:45If you cannot prove to me who you say you are, I've got no other choice but to arrest you.
21:50So start thinking right now about what you can send to me, which has got your name on it and your address.
21:57How old are you?
21:58I'm 19.
21:5919?
22:00So do you not have letters or anything like that?
22:01No.
22:02Or emails with your address on it?
22:03No, I'm not even to college, really.
22:05That's the thing.
22:06Have you got a bank account?
22:07No.
22:08I'm not lying to you.
22:09There's no point to lying.
22:11What's in your satchel?
22:14Your purse.
22:15Okay.
22:16What's this?
22:18A knife.
22:19A knife.
22:20Why haven't we got a knife on ourselves?
22:21Because sometimes we need.
22:22Sometimes we need, do we?
22:23Okay.
22:24Even that box.
22:25See how I can open that box?
22:26No, just leave it there.
22:27Yeah?
22:28If you just wanted to step back for us.
22:29No.
22:30Leave that alone.
22:31Step back.
22:32Just step back.
22:33Right.
22:34Because of the fact, I don't know who you are, okay?
22:36And I don't trust the fact that you're just giving me your details and you've got nothing
22:53on you, okay?
22:54You're going to be arrested for driving without a licence, driving without insurance, and driving
23:00in excess of the 70 mile an hour speed limit, okay?
23:02So you do not have to say anything, but it may harm your defence.
23:04If you do not mention when questioned something, which you're late to lie in court, anything
23:07you do say may be given in evidence.
23:09Further under arrest and suspicion of being in possession of a bladed article.
23:12That's what's going to happen is, me and you are going to travel down to Ripley
23:15Police Station right now.
23:16You're going to get your fingerprints taken, okay?
23:18We're going to tell you your details, and you're going to get charged to court, okay?
23:22That's the only way I can be certain that you are who you say you are, and that you're
23:27going to be there for those offences.
23:28Okay.
23:29Okay?
23:30So pop your seat belts on for us.
23:31I'm going to be putting some handcuffs on you.
23:33But just, if you can be, look, I'll be nice with you.
23:37Please, tell me.
23:38I'm going to, look, yeah?
23:40I'm going to give you my real details, I promise you, yeah?
23:43Your real details?
23:44Yeah.
23:45Okay, come on.
23:46I'm just...
23:47He says he's going to give me his real details now.
23:49Oh, is he?
23:50Oh, he's also got a knife on him.
23:51We're going to be there in 20 minutes.
23:54All right.
23:55Take care.
24:03Coming up...
24:04My heart is very, very hard.
24:06Homey, homey, homey, homey, homey, homey, homey, homey, homey, homey, homey, homey, homey, homey, homey, homey.
24:09A medical emergency.
24:10That, that.
24:11And the shocking confession.
24:12Like I'm just 16.
24:13You're 16?
24:14Yes.
24:15Means a night in the cells.
24:16How much money is here?
24:172,200.
24:182,200.
24:191,200.
24:20At the motorway services on the M1.
24:21Traffic cops Alex Head and Dan Mitchell have a young man suspected of speeding and driving
24:23without a license or insurance under arrest.
24:24I have worked here.
24:25here to test.
24:26I have worked here.
24:27to test the car.
24:55Keep the car.
24:56Ten minutes.
24:57No.
24:58How about ten minutes?
24:58No.
24:59No.
25:00His father insists his son is innocent.
25:03Just step back.
25:04So what's going to happen is, me and you are going to travel down to Ripley Police Station right now.
25:09We're going to be there in 20 minutes.
25:11All right.
25:12Take care.
25:18That's a great acting, mate.
25:19Do you want to get up now?
25:20Because you've thrown everything else on the floor apart from your phone.
25:24Eighteen years in the job, nothing really amazes me anymore about the lengths.
25:29People will go to try and get out of the situation, to try and make us believe that what they're
25:36doing is the right thing and what we're doing is wrong.
25:41You want to sit down in the car?
25:42I have two hard attacks.
25:45I have the...
25:47It's, um...
25:48Yeah, I have two hard attacks.
25:49That was pathetic.
25:51Perfect.
25:53Yeah.
25:54What is perfect?
25:55That...
25:56That player...
25:57Come and sit down then.
26:02My heart is very, very hard.
26:05Coming hard, coming hard, coming hard.
26:07Coming hard.
26:08I'm shaking.
26:09I show you a message.
26:10I have two hard attacks.
26:11I have two hard attacks.
26:12Yeah.
26:13You want to show you a message.
26:14I have appointment on 20.
26:16I have appointment...
26:17I'll tell you now.
26:18Shall I tell you...
26:19What's your name?
26:20My name?
26:21I don't know.
26:22You don't know your name?
26:23Yeah.
26:24Alright.
26:25If you were having a heart attack, you'd be sweating profusely and you're not.
26:28Is that really your dad?
26:30Yeah.
26:31He's very bad at acting.
26:35While Dan continues dealing with the father, Alex takes his son to custody for an identity
26:41check.
26:42He said he got a heart problem.
26:43Yeah.
26:44He do have a too hard attack.
26:45Okay.
26:46He managed to hold onto his phone and not break his phone very, very well.
26:50I had a too hard attack.
26:52Yeah.
26:53Well, if you sit down...
26:54Maybe...
26:55Maybe I am your father.
26:56Understand me?
26:57Maybe I am your father.
26:58Yeah.
26:59That's fine.
27:00But don't...
27:01Number one...
27:02I give you all my documents, yeah?
27:04All my name.
27:05Everything.
27:06I give you.
27:07You don't believe me.
27:08You tell me...
27:09Your son's lied.
27:10Your son's lied.
27:11But you didn't say anything.
27:12You've lied with him.
27:14So why should I believe anything that comes out of your mouth now?
27:18And then that little thing there was absolutely ridiculous.
27:23You might well have had a couple of heart attacks in the past, but don't lie about it.
27:27And then you wanted me to ring up the ambulance for you not doing anything.
27:31So you wanted me to waste more money.
27:33You weren't having a heart attack there, was you?
27:37Yeah.
27:38No, you wasn't.
27:39Yeah.
27:40Miraculous recovery.
27:41Miraculous recovery.
27:42Miraculous recovery.
27:43Miraculous?
27:44Yeah.
27:45I'm really sorry because I've been stupid and just lying to you, you know?
27:49Yeah, I've been a little bit silly.
27:50Yeah.
27:51I'm not going to lie.
27:52I'm sorry.
27:53But...
27:54Because you see, first time I tried to...
27:55So why...
27:56Right.
27:57Okay.
27:58So why are we lying?
27:59What's the reason for it?
28:00Like I'm just 16.
28:01You're 16?
28:02Yes.
28:03Cool.
28:04Okay.
28:05No worries.
28:06I'll have to get an appropriate adult.
28:07I'm sorry because I lied to you.
28:09You robbed me.
28:10We've seized your stuff.
28:11It's different.
28:12With the young driver in further trouble, the car and its goods are also impounded, but
28:22the father is free to leave.
28:24I have on the car 10,000.
28:2710,000 what?
28:2910,000 pounds.
28:30I have on the car 10,000 pounds.
28:32I just go up.
28:33Rob me now.
28:34You bring the money.
28:35I'll put the money on the pocket.
28:37I'm not going to steal...
28:41Why would I want to steal anything that belongs to you?
28:44Whatever you're saying is hysterical.
28:46Yeah.
28:47Right, you can go now.
28:48Bye-bye.
28:49Ta-da.
28:52I'm bored.
28:53I'm bored.
28:56Right, let's get out of here.
29:08Not sure you don't receive it.
29:12Go ahead.
29:13Everyone's got their own sort of levels of tolerance.
29:16I'm quite happy to spin more tolerance levels out.
29:19Bye-bye.
29:20For as long as needs be, really.
29:22He's doing well for a heart attack, isn't he?
29:25Especially when it gets a little bit sort of comical, shall we say.
29:33All right, then.
29:35Yep, this way.
29:36He's got a lot of money.
29:37At custody.
29:38He's all okay.
29:39Have you got a wand?
29:41The underage driver requires adult supervision.
29:46Cash is found that he says belongs to his father.
29:49How much money is here?
29:50How much money is here?
29:522,200.
29:532,200.
29:542,200?
29:55Yes.
29:56Okay.
29:57And then if I was 16, my dad won't trust me with two and a half thousand pounds.
30:02It seems a bit strange that he's given you two and a half thousand pounds when he's a grown adult, okay, and he's able to look after this money himself, but he gives you and lets you put it in your little man bag.
30:14The thing is, I have a bag and it's more safety than a pocket because my dad can get me.
30:24The discovery of the cash raises more suspicions.
30:27And while the teenager is taken to the cells, his father's also been detained.
30:32So his dad, who was left at the services, he's been now arrested for possession of criminal property and money laundering.
30:43And so now he's been brought down here.
30:51He made a big thing about his heart, that he's had a heart attack.
30:55But the drugs that he says he desperately needs, he hasn't been prescribed for nearly a year now.
31:02So there's a lot of play acting going off and I'm not quite sure why that is.
31:06Whether he thinks he'll get us out of custody, I don't know.
31:11Both the father and son will be held overnight while the police continue their investigation into the cash and goods in the car.
31:21Dad's got three pounds.
31:24And multiple bank cards.
31:27We'll seize all of them, find out what information they've got on them.
31:32Right, I'm going to turn upwards.
31:37Two and a half hours later.
31:40Crikey, that's a nice car.
31:42Traffic cop Martin Carter inspects the recovered car.
31:47Cheesy peeps, man.
31:49There's so much stuff.
31:50I've never personally dealt with property on this scale.
31:55If we suspect all this is stolen, there's a huge amount of property for us to be dealing with.
32:01Because there's power tools, there's drones, there's vehicle electrical goods.
32:07There's all sorts.
32:08It's all brand new stuff as well. It's not second-hand gear.
32:12So, and for it to be wedged in the back of a car like this is just unusual if it's legitimate.
32:18So now all that's going to have to be booked into property and it's up to us to try and identify where it's come from and return it to its rightful owner if it is stolen.
32:27At Ripley Station, after a night in the cells, it's question time for father and son.
32:41Hello. How's your English?
32:43All right.
32:44All right.
32:45All right. Okay.
32:47Do you want to jump in room four and then we won't get it pinched?
32:51Regardless of what he said in the interview, we know he's not got a licence, we know he's not got any insurance and he's only 16 years old.
32:57And he was caught travelling 126 miles an hour on the motorway.
33:01So dad and son will both be interviewed and we'll see what they've got to say for themselves.
33:06So in your own words, can you tell me what happened?
33:10My dad had some problem like he was saying he got no breath and stuff like that because he got like a heart problem.
33:17And I was a bit scared and because of his like health and I was trying to get like quite quick to welcome break as soon as possible.
33:31Like to at least, you know, to get some fresh air and his tablets in case if he was able to bring an ambulance.
33:42Hello, sir. Okay.
33:46The son claims he was driving as the dad was having a medical emergency.
33:51You sit in that seat for me.
33:52Despite not mentioning this before the arrest, with the aid of a translator, the father's account matches.
33:58Respectfully, a doctor's appointment on the 20th is not a medical emergency.
34:05If you felt that unwell that you couldn't drive, maybe you should have pulled over, stopped and called an ambulance as opposed to allowing a 16 year old male to drive well in excess of the speed limit.
34:17Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
34:20While the police continue their investigation, both men are free to go.
34:24Phones have been seized, yeah, so they need looking at and downloading, which is why we've not got them at the minute.
34:32You will get it back, just not today.
34:34Because what we don't want to happen is to go and delete stuff.
34:37So that's why we interrogate it, if that makes sense.
34:41The cash has been seized.
34:42He is likely to get it back, but it won't be today.
34:47The only thing he needs to do is sort out getting the car back, which is all explained on this document here.
34:53These are very important for getting his car back.
34:57So if he wants to get his car back, do not get rid of this.
35:02Decide now.
35:03When I recover my car, will I get all the stuff in it back?
35:07There's an order.
35:08At the minute it's upstairs, but I think the plan is to take that stuff back to the car.
35:16Coming up.
35:17I believe he's disqualified till test pass.
35:20An officer's instincts.
35:21You're not licensed.
35:22No, no.
35:23You're disqualified, aren't you?
35:24I like that.
35:25Yeah.
35:26Uncover yet another unlicensed driver.
35:28It's not going to go down well when I go back to court, is it?
35:30No.
35:31Stop driving, then.
35:33And a routine stop escalates.
35:38Unfortunately, none of them are in child's seats, are they?
35:41I'm going to have a wild guess that this is going to turn out to be a stolen car.
35:47One in the center of Chesterfield, traffic cop Jim Payne is looking out for illegal drivers.
36:14drivers and a vehicle Oscar tender 37 I've got that yellow focus it's a male
36:25that's driving it female front seat passenger I believe he's disqualified
36:31till test passed if there is talk that is some possibility of failing to stop
36:36directly behind it yeah I'm just gonna put these details on the log just stand
36:39bye it's a right indication he's gonna give himself up if his girlfriend's with him
36:48let's see what he's going to do
36:51hello all right you've got a license no no you're just well aren't you yeah all right
37:07cool city car we'll try and sort it out here with you all right let's jump in
37:11there then we'll get it sorted with you yeah we've got this vehicle stopped
37:20there's no issues the male has identified himself as being as a squall so it's
37:25going to deal with it at the roadside
37:28so you'd have to say anything but it may only defense should not mention now
37:41something rich later on in court only kids you go in car then three so do you know
37:51like deny you just did you did it come up there it's insured to a lady then yeah
37:55is that I go to a female and obviously I looked across it could see female
37:59passenger secret window down I think and you enjoy the seat so you're
38:04disqualified for quite a while and aren't you looking at this I've got three
38:07years originally so yeah you just qualified until 25th of May 25 it's not
38:12gonna go down well when I go back to court is it stop driving then you have to wait
38:16till your bands finished and then you need to be passing a test station never even
38:21passed a test this is second time I've been banned this right so this is not
38:24going to go down well is it okay because I'm happy with who you are and
38:29there's no it's been an aggravating factors not to be arresting you you're
38:33dealt with no process you're just going to get processed aren't you for driving
38:38marks disqualified and that will be it and there's no aggravating factors my
38:41children will be very happy that we may be still be able to go to the fair
38:43whether a lab face on or not that's a different story isn't it
38:47what's it was an ST with the color it was no it's it's just that to teen your
38:54axe hello just been checking you because
39:00obviously you're insured on this aren't you
39:02yeah oh what's up well it's because he's banned isn't it
39:06because he's driving it and he shouldn't be driving it
39:09yeah unfortunately none of them are in seats are they
39:16yeah they don't need seats they do don't they it's not tall enough you want to be
39:22tall enough your middle one she is she's not how well do you know the law because
39:28you've been driven by your partner who's banned from driving aren't you and now you've got seats
39:33well i don't i'm not really interested i'm looking at the safety of your children
39:36all right so you're allowing your children to be driven around by him he shouldn't be driving
39:44you could be driving you'd be legal then wouldn't you apart from the lack of child seats
39:47so you are going to have to make alternative arrangement because i've seizing the vehicle
39:51because it's been used by a disqualified driver therefore hasn't got a license hasn't got insurance
39:56while he waits for the recovery jim inspects the car i'm a bit suspicious of this one you know
40:05that is where the st badge is but they've debatched it so they took the badge off the boot
40:11and they've also took the st badge off the front grill here but you can still see where it used to
40:16be so i'm going to have a wild guess this is going to turn out to be a stolen car
40:20and a oscar tango 37 although i'm not a stolen vehicle identification officer i've always been
40:29really into cars so i know where to look for identity i know where the stamps should be i know
40:37where stickers should be i'm not happy that this vehicle is what it's saying it is i.e
40:47this focus titanium x in yellow this is a yellowy orange colored car but to me this is a
40:58port focus st and i think it's five years newer than what it's showing can we put a hold on this
41:06vehicle so that they can't get this vehicle back until it's had a proper vehicle examination
41:13to verify its identity i say in my opinion it's it's not what it says it is
41:18jim checks the car's vin the vehicle identification number so when they basically change the identity
41:28of cars if they go to a different level to just swap in the number plates they'll swap the visible
41:33vin stickers so they'll change the one in the window which has been changed and they'll change
41:38this sticker here that's going to be the sticker that the buyer's part of a kit when they clone these
41:43vehicles along with a visible vin but what they've failed to do is change the tire pressure sticker
41:49that's just above the door latch here basically which is still showing as focus st so they've done
41:55half a job while the driver is free to go his suspected stolen car will be examined back at the
42:02police station he may be unaware of its origins he might be and it's how are we going to be able
42:10to prove that car itself was a bit of an unusual clone maybe to them one yellow focus is similar
42:17to another yellow focus but obviously once you know your cars and your model years you know you
42:22spot these little things each year more than a thousand deaths and serious injuries are caused by
42:30disqualified or unlicensed drivers it's important to get disqualified drivers off the road because
42:37there are risks to everyone that's out there these people just don't care you know in my mind it's
42:43just selfishness they just want to get away they don't care what damage the cause or who they hurt
42:47in this episode
42:52the man who twice failed to stop for officers yeah straight through red lights towards town
43:01pleaded guilty to dangerous disqualified and uninsured driving failing to stop for the police and failing
43:09to provide drug and alcohol tests he was sent to prison for a year and received a further 42 months
43:16driving ban the underage unlicensed driver caught 50 miles an hour over the limit and his father who
43:26claimed to be having a heart attack returned to be charged a few months later oh fella fella stop it
43:34you're getting charged this goes away after recovering from yet another medical episode nobody faints and
43:42holds the drink the father was reported to court for allowing his son to drive while unlicensed and
43:49uninsured get the impression is good i don't know my feet very bad and after the son who also suddenly felt unwell recovered
44:01he was charged to appear at youth court
44:08both men failed to appear at court and a warrant has been issued for their arrest
44:16no action was taken against them for any theft defenses and their car and goods were returned
44:25you've got a license no no we just want it right yeah all right let's jump in there and the disqualified
44:31driver who was caught on a day out with his partner and children received a 14-week suspended sentence
44:39the focus st was a clone and the car has been returned to the insurance company
44:46does偈
44:55who
44:58yeah
44:58you
45:00you
