Transcript
00:00It's gone straight to the red line.
00:03He's got damage.
00:05Don't do that! Stay still!
00:08Derbyshire traffic cops.
00:10It does have warning markers for potential firearms.
00:15Stand over!
00:16You're under arrest.
00:17Intent supply class of beer drug.
00:19Police a thousand square miles.
00:23It's a crash, crash.
00:25Have you got any other injury other than your head?
00:27With some of the UK's most dangerous roads.
00:30Oh, no one's been killed out of this. I don't know.
00:33Do you know how fast we're going?
00:34It's scary when stuff like this happened.
00:36In life and death situations.
00:39Get on the ground, you'll be tainted!
00:41We've got runners.
00:42Face down!
00:45Yes, yes, successful stick.
00:49Around every corner.
00:51Great acting, mate.
00:53There's a new challenge for the traffic cops.
00:57They're flying the vehicle now!
01:00I'm going home.
01:01Stay led!
01:02Stop grabbing me like that!
01:06It is crash, crash, crash!
01:09We're on a dead end.
01:11We've got an off-road.
01:12Coming up.
01:14It's going counter-flow, counter-flow.
01:17Dangerous drivers out of control.
01:19It's a crash, crash, crash.
01:21Crash, crash, crash.
01:22We've got Mel running.
01:24Whoa, whoa, whoa.
01:27What are you doing?
01:28Battling with officers.
01:30I'm warning you, mate.
01:32I'm going to gas you in a minute.
01:35I can see the vehicle.
01:36I'm just trying to judge how deep this water is into it.
01:39And a life-or-death situation.
01:41Believe me, might be quite a correct.
01:44Forces the traffic cops into action.
01:46Hello?
01:47Can you hear me?
01:48Can you hear me?
02:04Streets are relatively sparse traffic.
02:09Not an awful lot going on at the minute.
02:11Three hours into a night shift.
02:13Traffic cop Stuart Smith is on patrol near Chesterfield.
02:17I'm always looking out for drivers that stand out a little bit,
02:20like they're exiting a junction a bit fast.
02:22There'll be something about the characteristic of that particular car
02:25that stands out from the rest.
02:28And they ask a tango three three.
02:31I can see a van that's coming towards me,
02:33and he's going noticeably quicker than all the other road users.
02:36Go to your vehicle check, please.
02:39Caller 14105.
02:42As Stuart makes a U-turn.
02:45Yes, yes, bell stop, bell stop.
02:48The van driver ducks down a side street.
02:51I'm witnessing a van that's involved in crime.
02:54Has he just stolen something?
02:55Or it could be, has he drunk?
02:57The only way to find out is to catch up with the driver and speak to him.
03:01One occupant decant from the vehicle.
03:06We've got a stop, stop, stop.
03:14We just kind of have this stalemate on the road.
03:17They're waiting for me to get out of the car,
03:19they're waiting for me to walk up to it,
03:21and then they'll speed off,
03:22and then of course I've got to run back to the car, it slows me down.
03:27I've played this game before, so I'm not going to get out.
03:30Hey, it's making up, it's making up.
03:42No other road users on the road this time.
03:44It's gone down a dead end.
03:48It's on an off-road.
03:49When a car doesn't stop, your heart does sink and your mind goes 100 miles an hour,
03:53you've got so much to think about.
03:55The dangers are huge.
03:57Formanet, the suit is authorised.
04:00Keep me up to date with dynamic risk assessment please.
04:03Yes, yes.
04:05The first and first.
04:08T-Mac, suit management train.
04:11Road conditions are quite bold, wet.
04:15Vehicle's now lights out.
04:16He turns his lights out in an effort to try and evade me being able to chase him.
04:22Vehicle continues to fail stop.
04:25But there's other units that are coming towards me,
04:28so we can hopefully get this van stopped quickly.
04:30Left, left, left.
04:32Vehicle still lights out.
04:34It's quite dangerous at this stage.
04:35Members of the public can't see this van coming,
04:37and it is not stopping for anyone.
04:39Speed is now 4-0 towards 5-0 in a 3-0.
04:42Towards the roundabout, it's not about the direction of the roundabout.
04:47Not one, not one.
04:49Not two, not two.
04:51Not three, not three.
04:53Not four, not four.
04:56It's going contra-flow, contra-flow.
04:59Shockingly, he turns to go up the wrong side of the bypass
05:02against the flow of traffic.
05:04It is the worst case scenario.
05:07You've got drivers that aren't expecting a van to be coming the wrong way on the bypass
05:11with no lights on.
05:13Despite the vehicle travelling on the wrong side of the road,
05:16Stuart's able to keep it in sight.
05:19It's sheer luck that a collision doesn't happen.
05:23He's able to then exit, so the pursuit continues.
05:26Looping back round the side roads, permission to re-engage.
05:30Here from NA, pursuit continues to be authorised.
05:33I'm slightly concerned around the level of risk that's starting to increase now.
05:38Vehicle still remains lights out.
05:39Permission for tactical contact if it attempts to go contra-flow again.
05:45From CR1, yes, yes, it's all received.
05:47Happy redact tactic.
05:49Vehicle's now gone left, left, left.
05:51Leading 5-0 and a 3-0.
05:54It's quite icy.
05:56I'm just trying to make some ground on the vehicle.
05:58It's quite fed to me.
05:59I'm going to do the loop again.
06:00I'm going to go off-road again.
06:01We go down the same streets, down the same footpath.
06:15Yep.
06:16Confirmed ASICs have gone towards a lot preferred.
06:17I'm going to get quite close up to it for the next roundabout to make sure it doesn't go contra-flow.
06:27The vehicle is at 7-0.
06:28Still lights out towards the roundabout.
06:29Lights are on red.
06:30Temporary high risk.
06:31There's no other vehicles that I can see coming around the roundabout.
06:32The vehicle is slowing, slowing down to 30.
06:33Vehicle stops going contra-flow around the roundabout.
06:34No other vehicles on the roundabout at this time.
06:55And it goes the wrong way around the roundabout.
06:59Just as I come around the corner, he collides with his Ford Focus.
07:03focus it's a crash crash crash crash crash crash with the suspect on the run
07:16from fix to have we got a dog other units arrive including a dog handler
07:22when this way so if the dog tracks from here we'll be fine through that gap here his chance
07:34of escape is is nil we've got him surrounded and I think he knows that as well he jumps in
07:42the canal and an effort to get away yeah this is our man and they from three three confirm this
07:50is the male driver see him running from the vehicle got a police dog right next to us as
07:55well mate just telling you in case you get any ideas he's given up he's run out of steam
08:01you're lucky you're not dead aren't you and he stinks of booze he has said he's had a drink
08:09I got this you're under arrest on suspicion of dangerous driving failing stop for the police
08:16it's necessary to arrest you for a prompt and effective investigation being able to catch the
08:22driver that's just done all these dangerous things and potentially injured somebody that
08:27was in another vehicle that they've collided with is a very good feeling when we get back
08:31to my vehicle we're going to do a breath test with you depending on the result of that as
08:34well we'll move forward all right right machines ready to go you breathe through that until I tell
08:40you to stop and stop thank you so you've blown 60 all right which is over the limit limit being 35 so
08:49you're further under arrest on suspicion of driving whilst over the specified limit
09:00okay you are under investigation because you're suspected of driving a motor vehicle on the road or
09:05public place whilst over the prescribed alcohol limit so you agree to provide two specimens of
09:11breath for analysis the sort of tactics that he employed in an effort to get away those that
09:18are used by your organized crime gangs really hardened criminals people that are in stolen vans involved in
09:24high-value crime exactly the same as basically the four blub blub blub blub blub blub keep you going keep
09:30it going keep going keep going keep going keep right keep trying hard stop you get yourotti
09:33blame 45 and 43 which is over the limit to know that he did all that simply because he was over the
09:46drink drive limit is unbelievable it's crazy it could quite easily have resulted in a fatality
09:51fatality coming up when a driver loses control the race is on to save him we've got ambulance here
10:09we need to get you out as soon as and a distinctive shoplifter right leg is missing a little bit
10:16this one opens up to the cops for any tag he's got it it's good that he's singing away about how he
10:26just takes these tags off and now you're receiving us down to 39 dealing with drivers who lose control
10:44is a regular job for the traffic cops near the end of a 12-hour night shift pc lee ridley is
11:09responding to an urgent call we've got a shot from a male that's groaning in pain saying it's near to
11:18the a50 so yeah but but the strange one we've kind of got limited light at the minute so we'll search
11:24as best as we can and then hopefully they can get back in touch with them on the telephone and get a
11:30better update and a tango three now go ahead i'm just traveling slowly down to junction one then i'll
11:41come back and do westbound just keep an eye out for any kind of fresh tracks in the the grass at the side
11:50of the carriageway i'm really worried now you've got freezing cold temperatures you can't survive very
12:12long if you're in water especially approaching sub-zero temperatures so where they're describing is here
12:25oh yeah there he is
12:29yeah i'm with this vehicle um so it's well off the carriageway it's uh it's gone through a bush i'm just making my way to it now
12:36yeah it's gonna be really difficult
12:43the water starts here i reckon it's gonna be at least knee deep going in
12:49we understand they're making contact with somebody in the car it's just extremely difficult for us to get
12:55to it
12:58it's all thorny bramble bushes we believe he is but we don't know how we're gonna get to him i don't really
13:05want to go wading in there i'm just worried about if any of us going there we start running into
13:10problems and i need to know that he's he's all right but the same he's on to emas we understand
13:16he's talking to emas we just need that firming up so at least if he's talking it kind of lowers
13:22the risk level down to him yeah there's a massive piece of plywood just on the ground
13:29the plan is to see if we can stretch it across and get closer to the vehicle without actually
13:36going into the water got it carl because it's unknown at this stage how deep the water is
13:45they believe he might be cardiac arrest but it's making sense but it's not confirmed
13:52the drive has potentially gone into cardiac arrest and that changes everything in an instant
13:56the stakes are unbelievably high we need to get to that car and get the driver out
14:06you're only approaching the smell and they're well above me leveling water but i'm hearing the car
14:12you get that initial shock the freezing cold water kind of kicks in as soon as it goes up near to my
14:18worst height hello can you hear me whereabouts are you hurting oh you're cold right are you bleeding
14:36from anywhere no i'm gonna see you're in a bit of a predicament here you're in quite a fair bit of water
14:45i'm initially kind of taken back by the smell of alcohol coming from the car but my main priority
14:52still putting all that aside is just get some reassurance that he's he's still with us and get
14:57him out of that car as quick as we can we've got ambulance here we need to get you out as soon as
15:03and i might need a bit of help from you will you see you go down backwards so we can get you this way
15:10can you move your legs move them at all yeah yeah i can see that he's submerged in water up to his
15:19waist so he's sat down in this freezing cold water he's probably been there at least a good hour as
15:26well so i don't even know if his legs are going to function i'm praying that he's got enough strength
15:31within him that he can kind of help himself get out the back as i assist him right i'm going to go
15:39into the water next and then i'm going to stand up right what i want you to do is crawl towards me
15:47just keep crawling keep crawling all right hold on to my hand because you're way steep in water here
15:53and then we're going to go this way just mind mind these prickles yeah just face my colleague we've got
15:59yeah i'm going to stand behind you and prop you up anybody else in the car with you before the collision
16:04just me just you just watch this bramble it's uh it's wrapped around us both hang on a sec
16:14right we've got you you just keep going yeah
16:16and a tank of three nine just an initial assessment he's he's come out of the vehicle
16:22under his own doing so we i've got major concerns regarding cardiac arrest at this stage a bit cold
16:29and wet but glad we got him out there's just quite major concerns there that he'd gone into cardiac arrest
16:34but yeah he's uh he's out he'll get assessed and then we'll deal with the traffic side of things very
16:40shortly i'm absolutely saturated we're steep now in water sometimes when you have dealings with
16:48people that can be angry towards you there's a lot of hostility towards police but you can attend a job
16:55and literally within seconds you're trying desperately to save somebody's life that's the reason why we do
17:01our job he's obviously come off the carriage right here the fresh tire marks and then if you look
17:09there's kind of no further tracks we're wondering if he's lifted and gone airborne and luckily the
17:14water managed to stop him going any faster into the trees at the other side because they're quite
17:19solid thick trees which i think the water's potentially slowed him down enough to to save him
17:27the fact that he stinks of alcohol probably that was leading to a bit of the confusion on the call
17:32the shock of what's happened 45 years so i'm wrestling on suspicion of driving motor vehicle
17:37to describe a limit of alcohol alcohol played a part in this collision nobody deserves to be
17:43involved in a collision but these are the consequences and this is what we deal with day in day out
17:52as the driver's been in a collision he has to be checked at hospital before he can be taken into
17:57police custody he's a very very lucky person i think the fact that he's he's ended up walking away from
18:05that we'll just make sure that he's got no other significant injuries but that just highlights
18:12another example of how you can end up in a right mess but luckily he hasn't seriously injured himself
18:18and seriously injured somebody else
18:29got a call from tesco cloud he's had a shoplift with the storage tried to do some vodka he managed to get
18:35the eye on his back uh bell left in this vehicle did have a seat belt on and have a young bird child
18:41on his knee as well with up to 400 000 shoplifting offenses reported every year tracking down dangerous
18:49getaway drivers is a daily challenge for the police okay i'm just going to check please
18:54i'm just going to sit on the 619. near chesterfield traffic cop jim payne and derbyshire's motorbike unit
19:03pick up the call there's a report of a uh attempt shoplifting where they tried nicking 181 pounds worth
19:10of vodka we want to see if the vehicle's going to another store to try again she's just failed
19:15we've got other officers checking other supermarkets and we're just going towards
19:19the area where it was last seen there may be a child in the vehicle to be really obviously need
19:23preventative measures of getting this vehicle stopped or finding it parked in a car park would
19:27be ideal yeah we've got anybody just feel waiting i'm at the station roundabout yeah proceed just bear
19:41in mind obviously the mention of this child in the car as well so the car's been spotted um heading into
19:47chestfield by a motorcyclist it's also a motorability vehicle so it could be interesting
19:58if we can get it show it's been used in crime we can get the car took off and get returned back to
20:03motorability as jim arrives motorbike officers are questioning the suspects and confirm there is a
20:16young child on board jim checks the description of the suspect who fled the scene the offender is
20:35quite distinctive so described as being white male in his 50s with black and gray jacket gray hoodie
20:41black baseball cap fairly routine stuff right leg is missing a little bit different
20:52well that's conclusive then into it
21:01with the front seat passenger matching the description he's under arrest there's already an
21:06information mark apparently on the vehicle for another incident in relation to possible more
21:11other shoplifting so it's not just a one-off it's a course of conduct that they're doing with this
21:16vehicle the driver's also being taken into custody what's he wants it for though two thefts and a burglary
21:23oh on us sign our outlet to walk yeah for theft uh burglary call and another theft at the moment
21:32so it's okay
21:34as far as actually that both the mail are wanted it's the actual passenger that's been into the shop
21:41for the wheelchair and the dried steel and the vodka and then the drivers wanted pnc for an unrelated
21:47defense so it's a good stop the officers searched the car for evidence
21:55set of altcroppers here look i think that's your security tag
22:02anything like that i think today can't get through any tag it'd certainly work wouldn't it
22:11the passenger who's basically admitted what he's been doing
22:14he says he's not been using tool he's just been snapping them and pulling them off
22:19so we've arrested the two males from the vehicle the driver was wanted from a couple of the forces
22:24for other offenses and the passenger has been arrested on submission of the theft
22:29the other passenger and the young child are free to go
22:34because the vehicle's been used in crime we've recovered that it's also a motor ability vehicle so
22:39they've been notified hopefully they'll then take possession of the vehicle obviously it's not
22:43what the most ability scheme is all about it's supposed to be to help people get about you know
22:47that need it they've got disability clearly the passenger does have a disability and the fact
22:52he's only got one leg but yeah the idea of giving him a brand new 73 plate car isn't for him to go out
22:59uh stealing vodka from tesco
23:08yeah it's making up coming up
23:12another out of control driver
23:17makes a run for it which way's he gone
23:20i'm not doing well i'm gonna i'm gonna check do you understand no you don't understand and a drunk
23:28driver give me a hand turns to violence i'm warning you mate i'm gonna gas you in a minute
23:34and a tango three six ten fifteen please i've got responsibility to cover the whole county
23:54at arborshire it's important that we know everywhere but the same token you know work in the same area or
23:59same patch i think it helps as well traffic cop matt cooling is on patrol near chesterfield
24:05looking for dangerous illegal drivers the nature of the people that we're going after you know they
24:10are people that are citing police and they're very likely to fail to stop and that will obviously then
24:16engage us in a pursuit from an eight to all units monitoring this channel we've just had an
24:20ampr hit for a vehicle the driver of this vehicle is showing to have no insurance
24:24yes close by stuart smith is also on the lookout for the suspect car
24:37yeah 206 i think she said
24:38there's a car that sits up with no insurance a couple of times tonight which i've just checked
24:54it's still showing no insurance stu smith's now behind it then it's got a bit of a lick on apparently
25:01with a pursuit likely stuart needs backup
25:05any pursuit is dangerous we're trying to stop a car driving at high speeds you're always second
25:10guessing what they're going to do and we're trying to stop that vehicle with the least amount of damage
25:15and the least amount of risk to members of the public it's estimated that nearly 15 000 police
25:20pursuits take place every year so it's turned on to the station carwood okay mate i think this leads
25:30on to the main road again big loop yeah and we've checked it on please computer still no insurance
25:37traffic cop jim payne is also closing in on the wanted car don't know if it's come this far or not
25:45i've caught the cross that it took me to sheryl
25:47it's going left about to take you back up to the main road through running short
25:59going right right up the hill
26:04approaching the junction ahead jim catches up with stuart
26:08yeah it's making up
26:25with jim and stuart now in pursuit
26:27it's really interesting matt's still playing catch up
26:38sounds like the vehicle stopped and decamped tango three six state six
26:43it's really interesting thank you um the wooded area is uh quite dense and it looks like it's
26:53quite a way over to the next joining road
26:59i think he's gone to the left stu i think you've got as far as the tree
27:02i don't know we weren't as quick at the cars as what it was i could nip around in a plane car to
27:07stay in the lane see if i can i know what it looks like yeah i mean it's a long way to go
27:12that mate to keep going towards staler lake he's running in the dark as well he's got no light
27:16with him i'll keep going forward just a bit more then he's wearing a grey top light coloredish hair
27:22yeah probably our height yeah dark trousers yeah
27:31the driver's decamped at the end of the day if we come across someone walking on here it's probably
27:35a good chance it's going to be the person we're looking for as it's early hours of the morning now
27:42i've come a good distance up this path i'm not going to go any further mate it's likely to be
27:48hidden somewhere into yeah too far start coming back then some more checks have been done and it
27:56might be that the registered keepers wanted fell to appear which again is another good reason to run off
28:01isn't it a dog unit arrives to comb the area for the runaway
28:16we better still find the side of the towpath then it could have gone into yeah quite possibly mate yeah
28:20there's paths goes right as well back towards like renneshire
28:26nothing this way not interested no
28:32obviously the older the old ascent gets the harder it is for him yeah
28:39vanish then well can't say we haven't tried
28:42we've tracked really as far as we can with the dog but unfortunately it's not picked up a scent for
28:48the offender that's run off but no thanks mate thanks for thanks for your effort don't go too far
28:58it's always disappointing when you're literally seconds behind somebody they get away but um
29:02you know it's just just how it is sometimes unfortunately we'll still send a notice of
29:06intended prosecution and a requirement to tell us who the driver is to the registered keeper
29:12and the upshot of that is that you know if they don't respond to us there's a massive fine of
29:16six points going to come the way something will come of it you know one way or the other and his
29:21luck will run out one day and he'll get caught while he's wanted
29:2915 miles north of derby matt's looking for more out of control drivers over the years i think you do
29:36get a sick sense of when something's not right you know criminals and drink drivers people who are
29:41disqualified from driving the telltale signs for me driving well below the speed limit maybe that
29:46the swerving between the lanes or something as simple as not putting the lights on you're always
29:51going to find that people you know unless they're caught they're going to keep doing what they uh what
29:56they get away with so we're just going to start showing presence in the area
30:03this car pulled out ahead of me it's not got its lights on it's driving really slowly
30:07and instantly i'm thinking there's something wrong just having a quick look at it
30:12hey tango three six ten fifteen please run me that through please
30:22yeah it's vehicle's compliance stopped
30:23hey mate have you been drinking not really no step out of the car for me
30:33hey can i get another unit to join me i'm just up from quarry road i'm not sure what i'm on i think

31:16driving with no lights for a start no lights what no they're not mate what's that man yeah the front
31:22they might be but there's no lights at the back hold on one minute let's just film this you can feel
31:28what you want but you're coming to this police car in a minute whoa whoa whoa what are you doing i'm
31:32going to request a specimen of breath from you put your phone down no i'm not putting my phone down
31:36i'm going to record this just get a unit to me please are you recording this yeah it's been recorded
31:41yeah so i can record this listen to me it's that fight or flight moment the driver's already shown
31:48his level of resistance so i'm then conscious that you know if we get to the next stage and we've got
31:52to arrest him it's probably going to then turn violent put your phone down right well at the minute
31:57you're under arrest for what suspicion of being on the bit whilst just give me a hand yeah uh what you
32:04recording before what you're doing mate mate i'm going to gas you in a minute i suspect you drink
32:09driving okay okay give me a hand so why is it so rough because you're now under arrest so you're
32:14not doing as you're told i work by myself and i'm conscious that he's quite a large chap if he's not
32:19going to comply i'm going to have some massive issues with him put your phone down no put your phone
32:24down why do i need to put my phone because i need to handcuff you i'm under arrest yep give me a hand oh are you
32:30being served i'm warning you mate i'm going to gas you in a minute out of nowhere the driver tries
32:37to throw a punch stop resisting give me a hand i'm not resisting yes you are i'm not try to throw a punch
32:44at me and i ain't having it put your phone spray i'm left for no other option it's like being in america
32:52innit no it's not mate it's basically an irritant that we spray you know in subjects as eyes i sort of
32:59end up getting a face full of it myself and i'm struggling then to keep my eyes open and see
33:03what's happening i'm in a vulnerable position myself now can you get someone in the hurry please
33:07we've got a local unit we're traveling towards the location now oh it's behind your back
33:13where are you this copper has just battered me and now me and uh he's arrested me
33:20hey nothing give me your hand he's backing me it's made me and everything babe
33:28quick i found her give me a hand i'm not one because you're under arrest
33:36after a two-minute struggle backup arrives just give me another cup put another cup on car i've got
33:41one on what are you doing on my phone i've got one on there's a massive sense of relief when my
33:49colleagues turned up to help you know he's been safely arrested and i'm not injured have you got
33:55him mate no you can't and what are you doing i'm holding you relax relax
34:05you all right yeah fine i've ended up spraying him on me
34:09let's just try to throw a punch it takes 10 cars are you being serious relax
34:18okay it makes me angry that you know this bloke's got into a car drunk and then of course he's took
34:26the chance then of going home where he's then been caught and then his reaction then is to try and
34:30assault someone you know just infuriates me really that that's the driver's attitude
34:41i've not had someone trying to assault me for a long long time and i like to think that's down
34:45to you know the way i deal with people and the way that i speak with people but unfortunately you
34:49know there's no reasoning with someone that's drunk the unpredictable and volatile and you know
34:54salad this night you know that's proven see if this chat's got some water hey mate mate can i ask a
35:02favour yeah have you got um like a jug of water or anything just pour me face to get behind the wheel
35:07of any vehicle when you've had that much to drink it's completely selfish it's irresponsible you are a
35:12ticking time bomb and playing roulette with your life and the life of others on the road
35:22coming up still be in here somewhere matt's on the hunt for a gang of thieves
35:29targeting farmers and their vehicles yeah i've got some lights coming towards me over and over again yeah
35:36i've got um two off-road motorcycles yeah followed by a third
35:56looks like units chessfield start making their way for a break in progress vehicle being stolen
36:01so the fenders are still on the car there's no other details tango 29 i'm uh i'm rude down the
36:09bypass traffic cop matt cooling is responding to a call from the north of the county
36:19that's where i'll head myself i've had a report of a quad bike that's just been stolen from a farm
36:25rural crime is a massive issue in derbyshire there's definitely a market for farm machinery and
36:30agricultural machinery they're very very desirable and they're worth a lot of money
36:34right this is the green way here
36:52tango 2 down with the scene riding it or pushing it pushing it the offenders have been seen to get onto
36:58a railway line which is um what we're walking towards now just from the off chance it comes up
37:04this way we'll try and intercept it on the path it can be daunting going into the dark and it's sort
37:11of the unknown number of people that are possibly tooled up you know and i'm by myself what am i
37:19going to do if i'm confronted with these people
37:20they came out the farm and then onto the road you can get through here
37:30a second unit is searching in the fields nearby
37:34i wonder if they've come through here so maybe could still be in here somewhere
37:38yeah i've got some lights coming towards me goodbye
37:53yeah i've got um two off-road motorcycles
37:59yeah followed by a third but they're generally towards um crestwell
38:03yeah there was three motorbikes but i didn't see any vrms the first one was two up and then
38:12single riders on the other two and i've seen no quad though so i wonder if they've dumped that
38:16they've not come past on a quad they've come past on three motorbikes
38:24come on mate
38:25you've got the quad bike they've abandoned it and you found a field yeah they're pushing it
38:43that was on that was down they've broken that off right they haven't managed to start it though have
38:48they by the looks of it they broke all the key and everything i can't start it
38:52you're trying to break in the shed last week yeah so obviously that's this is what they're after
39:01it's a good result that the quad's been found the frustrating part is that you know obviously
39:05we've probably seen the four offenders that are responsible you know we come across them again
39:10um you know it's it's doubtful really
39:27following two attempted burglaries in a week tonight the same farm is being targeted again
39:33you do get people that will target the same place two consecutive nights
39:37and that's purely based on the fact that they want something
39:41i think it's pretty brazen trying to steal the same thing again
39:45hey two now you just put me to the job please
39:48right it's two people on cg tv in the yard
39:51looks like they've possibly gone back for another attempt
39:54this is what i joined the job to do you know is to catch burglars and car thieves
39:58so are you happy with a plan if it's similar to last night we've got offenders on motorbikes
40:04are you happy if we do preemptive sting
40:09yeah understood
40:14sting is designed to puncture tyres it's just done slowly and gradually if there's no air in the tyres
40:20it means that they can't to keep riding the what they're riding
40:34hey tega 290 shrimp i'm further up the branch line from 2-1
40:41matt sets his trap
40:42i need to be in a position where they're not going to see me but i'm going to hear them
40:50there's always an inherent danger to the officer that deploys a stinger normally best practice is
40:56to do it from hard cover and to be concealed so that person doesn't see you you have got to weigh
41:01up the dangers that are present but you know these people don't care it's complete tunnel vision you
41:06know they are literally just focused on getting away but 10 minutes later he's still waiting
41:13there's no sign of these motorbikes there's every possibility that they'll probably come up the path
41:17before the other units got into the location we'll um we'll knock it on the head
41:26frustrating they've got away hopefully their luck will run out we'll catch them with the act maybe next time
41:36i do struggle to understand why people just don't stop they probably don't foresee the potential
41:54consequences or that they're making the situation just worse for themselves but at the end of the day
41:58they're not stopping because they're clearly doing something wrong they don't like the situation they're
42:03in they see that you're the police they see that it's game over for the night something could change
42:08they could decide suddenly that they want to attack you they want to escape so you've got to be switched
42:14on people are taking more and more risks than ever before in an effort to get away being able to remove
42:21those drivers from the road is very rewarding and the fact that we're only chipping away at it we're
42:26getting one at a time but that's one less driver that's out there putting people's lives at risk
42:33in this episode crash crash crash crash crash crash the failed to stop van driver was sent to prison
42:48went this way and banned from the roads for drunk and dangerous driving
42:53he has said he's had a drink oh i got this you're lucky you're not dead aren't you
43:03the wanted suspect who ditched his car and ran into some woods vanished then that's how we haven't
43:09tried has been sent a notice of intended prosecution and remains under investigation
43:15if they don't respond to us there's a massive fine of six points going to come the way
43:18oh whoa whoa whoa what are you doing the drunk driver who punched matt cooling
43:25how you been cheering i'm warning you mate i'm gonna gas you in a minute received a community
43:30order and was disqualified for driving for 36 months
43:37that's pretty deep whereabouts are you hurting cold you're cold
43:42the driver who crashed into a deep pond we've got yeah i'm going to stand behind you and prop you
43:48was later released from hospital without serious injury
43:52i think the water's potentially slowed him down enough to to save him
43:57blood tests confirmed he was under the legal limit
44:02this is definitely the guy in the wheelchair in the baseball
44:05the disabled shoplifter received eight weeks imprisonment for shop theft
44:10what was he wanted for though two practice in a burglary but no action was taken against the driver
44:18or the registered keeper of the mobility car the idea of giving him a brand new 73 plate car
44:24isn't for him to go out to stealing vodka from tesco
44:27and the thieves who attempted to steal a quad bike from a farm have yet to be tracked down but
44:39inquiries are ongoing
