00:15Turn over! You're under arrest.
00:17Lieutenant supply class is here drug.
00:19Police a thousand square miles.
00:23It's a crash, crash.
00:25You've got any other injury other than your head?
00:27With some of the UK's most dangerous roads.
00:30Oh, nobody's been killed out of this. I don't know.
00:33Do you know how fast we're going?
00:35It's scary when stuff like this happens.
00:37In life and death situations.
00:39Get on the ground, you'll be tased!
00:41We've got runners.
00:43Face down!
00:46Yes, yes, successful stick.
00:49Around every corner.
00:51Great acting, mate.
00:53There's a new challenge for the traffic cops.
00:57Step out of the vehicle now!
01:01Stay led!
01:03Stop grabbing me like that!

01:12It's a crash, crash.
01:13It's a crash, crash.
01:15Repeat offenders.
01:16I got banned when I was 17.
01:18I got dumped for a drink jar,
01:19and I blew him in the face.
01:23Opposite carriageway.
01:25Thieves on the run.
01:27There's definitely something in there.
01:28It's the heat source.
01:29Keeps moving.
01:32And suspects desperate to get away.
01:35Down the floor now!
01:36Now!
01:37Down the floor!
01:38Down on the floor!
01:40Now!
01:46Down the floor!
01:49Just pass and vehicle details.
01:50Please.
01:52It's a black Audi A4.
01:53Ten miles north of Derby,
01:56Sergeant Scott Riley is racing to catch up with a repeat offender.
01:58Yes, yes.
02:00It's now traveling toward Derby.
02:01We've got a report of a drink driver.
02:02We've got good information as to where he is.
02:03riley is racing to catch up with a repeat offender this is we've got the report of a drink driver
02:13we've got good information as to where he is so uh i'm going to try and intercept him
02:18i'm quite keen to get this one so now he's a band driver an 804
02:23yes yes um should run straight into those individuals that are repeat offending are
02:35taking nearly all of the police's time you're dealing with the same people that are still
02:40drink driving the year after the mid-court drink driving or even sometimes two or three days after
02:46the mid-court drink driving police are dealing with those same individuals time and time again
02:50it should come straight on top of me
02:59contact contact with that vehicle held at large when you are dealing with an offender like this
03:05who's been through the system a lot is already banned from driving for drink driving and failing
03:10to stop the likelihood is is going to fail to stop again i'm going to go for a compliant stop and if
03:17that doesn't work uh have a colleague to deploy stinger and it is a offside indication i know he
03:25knows i'm behind him be aware he's dragging around yeah speed slightly increasing both of our speeds
03:32increase simultaneously position for the offside and it's um left left left back towards where it's come
03:39from and a 10-0-4 vehicles failing to stop failing to stop the rs are low at this time can have a stinger please
03:55the rs are high the rs are high this a crash crash it's a crash crash
04:00close to look after the member of the public
04:05Chris look after the member of the public
04:17is total loss it's total loss
04:21I do now know that it'll do anything to get away so my motivation levels to
04:26catch this offender have just gone through the roof and there is nothing i want more than to
04:33catch him there's going to be quite some substantial damage to that vehicle is that driver okay chris
04:42yes hello can you get any recovery please thank god there's no interest to the member of the public
04:48where has he gone where has he gone we've got a direction traveled as scott continues searching
05:03for the driver control updates a vehicle has crashed through some places into the garden
05:09i don't know whether this could be related to the same vehicle yeah we've also had a call saying
05:15they've heard a big crash and driving was running off when he got to the top of the road he ran down
05:20the estate i believe he's just headed westbound description of turkish or asian six foot tall
05:28and black t-shirt i think we were nearly there you know i think we went down it
05:34and the car's now been found abandoned in somebody's garden
05:43oh i never saw it
05:49i've driven straight past that that's why i've not seen it it's in the garden
05:53mate no wonder because i just went straight off
05:57he's got black trousers yeah yeah
06:01weird beard short black hair and which way did he go he walked straight that way okay
06:21say that pal
06:22what's going off right you just matched the description of somebody that i'm looking for
06:29all right just stop there yes yes one male detained
06:34down from where you were i resisted no you're not resisting mate it's all good you're under arrest
06:38submitting drink driving failing to stop at the scene of an accident and dangerous driving you do
06:44not have to say anything but it may harm your friend not make sure when questioning something
06:47much later on in court colleagues arrive as backup it's really important for your safety if you've
06:53got any injuries injuries from what from the high-speed crash that you've just been in i've not been in
07:03no i'm not interviewing you what i'm saying is if you need an ambulance now is the time to tell me
07:09if you feel that you need taken to hospital for any injuries that i cannot see
07:14now is the time to tell me that that's not admitting guilt that's just telling me that you
07:18need some medical attention that is i'm not into you here and now we're going to get you in the car
07:25leave the member of the public's not injured with the suspect on his way to custody that is an
07:31excellent resort scott heads back to the crash scene i'm so glad we've got him the damage that is caused
07:38to this person's property the damage that is caused to that member of the public's car all started
07:43from an incident where it's probably caused some harm so it's it's a really pleasing result for me
07:49i'm now interested to see what this car's going to look like
07:55the accidents happened just up there in them roadworks and the skid mark has come all the way
07:59across here so literally it's been out of control all the way down here see it from here
08:04in fact you can see all the way that tire mark
08:11well that's a really massive impact straight through this concrete fence
08:15fortunately it's missed the house it's fortunate where it's hit that member of the public it's
08:21engine block to engine block if that had been an impact straight into the side that could have
08:25killed that member of the public if it had not been wearing a seat belt it'd have easily killed himself
08:29it's ridiculous and it really frustrates me of course it's all totally unnecessary custody for us
08:43in terms of dangerous driving to get away from the police that's that's one of the worst that i've
08:47seen he could have killed somebody there quite easily we need to do everything we can do now to
08:53stop him being released and stop him being allowed to drive a vehicle again
09:04coming up you must be darvish's most unluckiest criminal
09:11back at custody numbers has been called there's a medical emergency
09:17you have a drink tonight chap no me you're not at least that's something and a wanted suspect
09:30won't come quietly i ain't done no wrong i'm not no criminal any sudden movements that we will use
09:35this is what i'm going to say to you i'm further arresting you for disqualified driving
09:56i've actually found out that you're disqualified now so we'll just interview you about the driving
10:00later there's no proof though is it i'm not going to interview you here and now it's not it's not
10:05it's not for me to interview you now is that's what interviews are for when you've got a solicitor
10:09later i'll get somebody down from the night shift sergeant scott riley is dealing with the driver
10:15suspected of failing to stop the ra's are high the ra's are high this a crash crash and crashed into a
10:22garden so now i've got a lot of work to do i've got half an hour of my shift left and in that time i've
10:28got to hand the job over to the next sergeant that's coming on and then i've got to do my arrest
10:32statement get all the paperwork sorted i've got to download all the videos from my police vehicle
10:37because that'll be needed for evidence download my body warm video so i'll just go and crack on
10:42and do it while scott prepares his report i didn't chap all right traffic officer craig dawes is starting
10:50a day shift and is booking in the suspect just hit us there pal we'll have a seat to you
10:57i've tried staying out of trouble but two weeks in a row now i've been here
11:01someone reported me for drink driving last week and i was sat at home i'm in a good boy
11:10i'm on the suspended sentence it's my name do you're unlucky you are you must be darvish's most
11:19unlucky he's criminal just surprised me how cocky he is his kind of carefree attitude that he's not
11:29bothered of what he's just done or what he's caused or the risks he's taken it just appeared to be a
11:37game to him and you know in his opinion he's going to be home in a few hours he'd done nothing wrong
11:41quite shocking
11:48failed to stop dangerous driving leaving scene of an accident and section four
11:54unthicked through drink or drugs and disqualified driving i've heard the officer's explanation as to
11:59why you're here it was clear to see that he got injuries what coincided with it you know being
12:16inside a car when it had crashed but he was adamant that he'd not been in any car he'd not been in any
12:21crash have you done one of these before yes yeah so you know you're going in the red element
12:38i got banned when i was 17 a week before me test drink i got done for drink drive and i've loved
12:44120. okay then pal all right then stand up next to me you're going to go into going to go into going
12:54to go into going to go into going to go into going to go into going that's what i mean take a seat
12:58beautiful 59 54. are you disappointed on that one yeah normally it's i90s that's that's quite bad that
13:06what's going on 59 59 54. the legal limit for drink driving is 35 as a force we prosecute of 14 above so
13:18it's still well over and it's been some time since he's been arrested as he says he's had several
13:22pints bottle of rum and stuff he's been quite open with that obviously speaking to him and
13:31uh having some interaction with him he's spent some time in custody for driving offenses so he knows
13:37the score my worry because he's so laid back and so cocky with this is is he going to carry on doing
13:43it at some point he's either going to kill himself or kill somebody else and that's my concern
13:53if you don't mind tea two sugars a cup of water biscuits and a chicken curry chicken curry
14:00yet somebody who's been in three four five six seven times they don't care they've got nothing
14:06to lose you know it's a day in the office for them and it is quite sad to see that state of affairs
14:15the suspected driver has now said that he's is injured and an ambulance has been called once he tells
14:25us he's feeling the pain we've got a duty of care to make sure that he receives the best
14:29treatment that we can the injuries he's complaining about are the ones that we take consistent with a
14:35road traffic collision it's not uncommon for our regular offenders to fake injury they know they'd
14:42rather spend 24 48 hours in a nice warm hospital bed rather than a plastic mat and a cell in ripley
14:48custody but this lad at the impact it's suffered in that car i think it was quite clear that he wasn't
14:54faking any injuries and he was in a mess we don't know if he got internal bleeding head injuries he
15:00was refusing to tell us simply because he didn't want to implicate himself in that crash the chances
15:05are we will probably meet again now hopefully not because i'm hoping that he may be you know serving
15:10some time in prison catching habitual offenders on the run is a daily challenge for officers like scott
15:28riley we've just seen a range rover evoke on the traffic cameras where the drivers wanted for a
15:36domestic burglary at the same time we want this chap for assaulting his partner um so it's a good
15:45opportunity to get him detained while he's driving the car from the last that he has forced entry into
15:51the property it's quite often that we come across repeat offenders in domestics it's quite often that
16:03we get called to the same households the same couples the same victims what's the location of this vehicle
16:11now please how do you check my direction should be at four by the time you get there a local unit's got
16:19behind it so we're making some ground to give the local officers some support and then obviously if it
16:27fails to stop we're in an appropriate bit where we could deal with that if you come towards willing
16:34to try and put a stop in prior i'll be at that pulling i'll try and get a stinger out to receive
16:41so we're heading to what film from now yeah so it's away from wouldn't it yeah so i just tried to
16:48get in position to put a stinger out should it fail to start but then it turned the other way oh we've
16:53got it stopped
16:58it looks like it's stopped we've got it and mandate
17:05fine but i'll arrest you in a bit so you know what i'm saying if you don't keep me on
17:08that's it you know what i mean it's a great unicorn if you do so maybe keep an evidence
17:12how can i burgle my own house get my wallet i don't know the details i don't know the details
17:16this burger you had a drink tonight chad no mate breath lies me excellent work at least that's
17:22something this is my um the address is on the driving license i would like to remind you have been
17:30arrested that are in deportions that i recommend not talking about it the necessity for the rest is
17:35promising investigation so we can interview around it and protection of the vulnerable
17:39individual in question she is uh manipulative lying we'll get you in the snapshot we'll have to get
17:46your details around yeah that's what the answer yeah you ain't got a man under me i'm not
17:50arresting i'm not arresting am i just stop because this is bullshit and you're fine give me up overnight
17:55you're gonna put me in the cello overnight for what for what i ain't done no wrong i'm not no criminal
18:00i was going to my brother's house out of the way okay i do need to change your camera
18:04any sort of immigrants and we will use force okay and sometimes think whoever shouts the loudest will
18:10be heard and it's not uncommon to hear how they've been treated or hear how it's not their fault why is
18:17the other person the bad person but you're only getting one side of the story but what i do know with
18:23this individual is he's making it all about him you've been arrested for assault on what willington
18:28on your partner with the suspect detained cops search his car for the victim's phone
18:39we can just use any phone that's in there can't we then we can sort it out any phones that are in
18:43there because we don't know exactly what it is there's no phone but there are other suspicious items
18:50right because we found a grinder in your car and because of how you're behaving i suspect that
18:54you're under the influence of some controlled substance some drug okay so what i want you to
18:58do is i provide me a specimen of saliva so you're not going to give us a sample listen to me yeah
19:07look into my eyes do you would you not be angry if you was getting arrested for burglary in your house
19:11but you're also acting like somebody that's under the influence of drugs do my eyes look like i'm under
19:15an influence they do actually yeah will you will you provide a sample of saliva for analysis hello
19:25hello
19:32are you willing to give me a sample of saliva for the purpose of screening see if you've got cannabis or
19:39cocaine in your system yes or no no no i'm not giving the sample you're not giving me a sample
19:43okay right just listen to this officer then he's going to arrest you for that offense under arrest
19:48veins provide specimen of their saliva for that sit drunk swipe all right that's a long deep burglary
19:53you've already been arrested for lovely given his behavior tonight i've got every confidence that he
19:59will behave in the cells like he's behaved with me at the roadside and he won't provide
20:03i now know why he won't do the drug fight stinks of it in there it's definitely absolutely those
20:11individuals need to be dealt with a lot harsher thanks for that the first time that somebody comes
20:16into the system and into police contact and through the court system in an ideal world that should be the
20:21last but the reality is quite different
20:24coming up that's ready to come here danger on the motorway opposite carriageway as another repeat
20:36offender he's still trying to make his way with the brad balls is desperate to avoid arrest
20:44and sergeants got behind a suspicious vehicle tracking down seasoned criminals you've gone off you're
20:51riding down there if they hadn't done anything wrong they wouldn't be wandering off some people
20:56got that place that's all it is
21:12traffic officer matt cooling is on patrol targeting repeat offenders stealing from heavy goods vehicles
21:19and a tango 29 there's a possible clone going south on the motorway lv 07 can you just have a look
21:28at it be able to tell if it is the clone or not what's the maker model please it is a problem for
21:33derbyshire we've got lots of arterial routes airports you've got lots of vehicles that are transporting
21:38lots of goods you know that ultimately become a target for these sorts of people matt's following a
21:44suspected stolen truck a bit of ampr here on the motorway a vehicle that's traveling south it's
21:52potentially a clone vehicle someone's clothing a hgv in my mind that's simply a red flag it's probably
21:59part of an organized gang that are going out each night you know stealing from lorries in and around
22:04the country and taking stolen goods back to where they come from this lorry that's ahead of us now when
22:11we've checked to ampr it's just raising the suspicions that it might might be a don't you know the
22:15dodgy lorry as matt follows the truck control updates looking at the plate images appears to be
22:23a quote suspected to vehicle involvement best of high value goods from hcv yep i've got behind the vehicle
22:33i've followed it for a short distance while i've done some checks and quite happy then that it is the
22:37clone i'm dealing with i'm very conscious that i'm by myself when i'm dealing with these vehicles
22:43there's a lot of unknowns you know i don't know who's driving it could be stolen so there's lots of
22:47ambiguity and you've just got to be aware of that as other units join the chase
22:55definitely matt tries to slow the truck down might try and ram his way out put the lights on to try and
23:06stop it it's not complying it's not reacted i just got the feeling there's something not right
23:14any pursuit is dangerous but ones that involve hgvs in particular really do raise the stakes you know
23:27it's a bigger vehicle and it's much more difficult to stop than a car
23:30because of the size of it it could quite easily ram us out of the way
23:44i think i'm here
23:54with the officers closing in
23:58opposite carriageway the suspect makes a run for it
24:03it is a complete shock to see something like that you know i've got to think i've got to react
24:15very quickly i'll get around till i get a block off to try and warn the other traffic or to deal
24:21with the aftermath if you know this person gets hit it is a heart in hand sort of moment as matt
24:27races to the other side of the motorway the hunt is on for the runaway suspect
24:35got the motorway held behind us for safety we've just got cops just on the southbound carriageway
24:42at the minute and they're just searching the woodland a drone is sent up to help with the search
24:49there's definitely something in there it's the heat source keeps moving
24:52is that where we're still now yeah you're directly with it right where you are with nowhere to hide
25:04keep coming mate when you get to this railing what i'd do is i'd stand on railing if i were you
25:08the suspect hands himself in yeah stand up where you are yeah you're gonna have to stand up at some
25:14point mate it's exactly the same all around you it's gonna be for you just just stand up
25:18these people just don't care they don't care what aftermath they leave behind what damage the cause
25:25or who they hurt abandoning the vehicle in a live lane the motorway you know is extremely dangerous
25:30it's a recipe for disaster you know in my mind it's just selfishness they just want to get away that is
25:35their primary goal i've cleared some steps for you mate because i'm like that yeah it's about a whip
25:54bag off yeah you're under arrest for theft of motor vehicle and theft of some tyres this sort of crime
26:02is rife you know up and down the country i've seen what's in the back of the lorry and you know
26:07it's quite evident that they've had a good night there are tens of thousands of pounds worth of
26:11premium tyres that have been stolen you know i've said anything about my defense if you don't mention
26:15one question straight side court anything you do say may be given evidence and assess to the arrest
26:18for a prompt and effective investigation go search your pockets mate the suspect is a disqualified
26:26driver and repeat offender with over 20 previous convictions we need to get him moved get immediate
26:34because we're on a motorway and there's a danger of us being killed it's sort of the modern day highway
26:38man traveling the roads nicking what they can to sell for profit you know well it's gonna work and
26:45you know like the rest of us and you know earn a living
26:48as the suspect is taken away for questioning the abandoned stolen truck is recovered
26:58and the motorway reopened freight crime cost the uk economy around 420 million pounds a year
27:08with organized gangs targeting service stations on motorways
27:18and then tango 25 just confirm exactly where the sergeant is please traffic cop martin carter
27:27is responding to a call for help yeah this vehicle's uh about five we can get some back
27:36so the sergeant's got behind a suspicious vehicle and he's asked for some backup
27:42so that's what we're traveling to just off the m1 sergeant neil hopwell
27:47has stopped a suspicious car well for 29 first exits plate cross
27:54when you're outnumbered particularly four or five to one it's very dangerous and it can go very wrong
28:01a lot of people we deal with don't like the police and the reason they don't like the police is because
28:06they're being caught doing stuff that they shouldn't be doing
28:08you don't get anywhere that way mate for me like they're scared or something or used when they've
28:14done something wrong uh the thing is if they're walking off it makes them suspicious so they'll get
28:18stopped anyway the vehicle's come off the motorway and it's got five people in it apparently three of
28:26them have run off this car is it then right yours it all right said you'll put the back of my motorway
28:41so i've arrived on scene and the sergeant's got the driver in the back of his car and there's a
28:45passenger still at the side of the road so what i'm saying is about three o'clock in the morning what are you
28:52using this vehicle for now in connection with your business have you got some evidence that that's
28:57your motor in your possession then no not yet no how long got it then uh since tea time there's one
29:05study here one's gone in through the bushes over here and the other two walked down to 29.
29:11how come your mates have run off then or scarpered i don't know you're some of the human beings i don't
29:15i don't know what uh brings you out of this time of night i can come out any time of night can i
29:20of course you can yeah you got any id with you fella i don't know i can give you my name what's
29:24your first name sir you ever been in trouble with the police before about roughly about 10
29:32maybe other years take it it's not your car my friends all right you're going with him when he's
29:37finished yeah yeah yeah some people don't like police that's all it is you know it's that's all
29:41it is just a bit odd in it right i don't know i don't know i don't know i don't know i can't tell
29:45people what to do no i get that ultimately from our perspective yeah
29:51police cars stopped and the people that are in it have wandered off like instantly
29:57people don't just run away in the dead of night in a county that they're not
30:00familiar with if they've done nothing wrong if you have done nothing wrong
30:03stop and have a conversation with us and if everything checks out you'll be on your way no
30:07issues the sergeant's talking to the driver i've checked one of the passengers details and he's uh
30:21he's not doing anything wrong so we'll wait and see what happens with the driver it can be incredibly
30:26frustrating when you know they're up to no good they know they're up to no good but what we can prove
30:32is a different matter i think at the minute the driver has got some conditions and a curfew
30:38which he may be in breach of so the sergeant's just checking if he is in breach and if he is then
30:42he might be getting arrested local officers arrived to help search for the three men who walked off
30:49all i can tell you is the sergeant who's in this car was behind this car he's followed it up here
30:54as the car's pulled in three of the passengers ran off through the bushes down towards junction 29
30:59you can float around float around the roundabout and have a look if you want yeah just to see if
31:04there's anyone milling around yeah nice one it's three o'clock in the morning we have issues with
31:11lorries being broken into at service stations you can't help but think that if they hadn't
31:16done anything wrong they wouldn't be wandering off let's just be decent about it yep sergeant's found
31:22another one one of the suspects that ran off has been spotted in nearby bushes you've run off you're
31:28riding down there all right so i'm going to be searching you okay to make sure you've got nothing on
31:33you that you can never hurt me or my colleague all right i've just have you got drugs on you
31:38no not a thing mate have you been smoking weed a little bit yeah yeah have you got any weed on
31:42you now because i can smell it on you all right right you've been detained for the purpose of
31:46search search for the bridge at this time and if you've got anything on you that might hurt or
31:50any of my colleagues all right soldier's just found another one hiding in the bushes and he's just
31:57doing shop search where's your mate's gone i don't have to mind that literally if i wanted to get
32:02away i'd have walked off that we're now going to go and search the vehicle under section one of pace
32:07just to see if there's any items for going equipped to steal
32:15empty nothing in there at all we're not finding anything untoward in the vehicle yes it's suspicious
32:22circumstances based on what's been witnessed and how these men have acted that they've ran off one
32:27was found hiding in the bushes across the road but ultimately if we don't find them in possession
32:31of anything and there's nothing stolen in the car i imagine they'll be on their way very shortly
32:38okay i'm just waiting to see what uh we need to do with regards to you breaching about
32:42what it's still breach when you're not in that county yeah of course it is you've got curfew
32:45here if you mean just stop in that's it because you're not about for one force i'm about for a few
32:50as sergeant hopwell continues with background checks on the detained man news comes in from
32:56officers searching nearby apparently the local officers that went to find the other two they found
33:00the other two i'm not sure of the outcome yet i'm sure their details will be checked
33:06i imagine they'll be sent on their way because we can't prove that they've committed any offenses
33:10tonight but we are aware of this vehicle it's on the radar and i'm sure some intelligence will be
33:16updated on police systems to say what activity it's been up to tonight another suspect has been found
33:23by local officers where did you find him he's heading towards downlink around there you know where the
33:29cabin is yeah yeah just back about one man is still at large but for now the cops turn their attention
33:37back to the car just having a quick look at the plate so as you can see it's got this film on it
33:44on the front and ordinarily it wouldn't have that so that's effectively what we'd call
33:52a ghost plate and they put that on to avoid detection another tactic used by people out committing
33:59crime on the roads and obviously that just confirms it so yeah good spot from the sergeant
34:07as martin helps search for the remaining suspect there's an update so this minute in time
34:13which is great in manchester police here on bail for and currently they want you arrested for being
34:17in breach of bail conditions the sergeant's arrest of the driver is in breach of his curfew and i
34:23imagine he'll be off to the nearest custody suite freight crime is a massive problem not only in derbyshire
34:30but up and down the country it costs billions of pounds to the industry every year criminals will
34:37travel up and down the motorway and the a roads targeting heavy goods vehicles tear curtains open
34:43looking to steal loot steal it put it in a cloned wagon drive it off
34:51the m1 is obviously the main arterial route that criminals will use we all as police forces have to
34:57try and work together to try and stop coming up traffic cops follow a suspicious car vehicle
35:13and bring down a runaway suspect down the floor now now down the floor down on the floor now
35:27it's just a cultural thing that people are awake at that time aren't they
35:58two miles away on the outskirts of derby left left left pedestrian accident
36:05a colleague is tailing a suspicious car vehicle is currently failing to stop
36:14left left left our performance full of our vehicle advanced java pursuit management trade
36:21to think that you've got a colleague that's chasing that vehicle on his own the first thing in my mind is
36:26i need to get to him as quickly as possible to make sure that he's safe
36:33why is this person failing to stop there's no markers on the vehicle pretty much a brand new car
36:38there's something not right with it
36:40this person failing to stop there's no markers on the road
36:41there's no markers on the road
36:45slash slash slash slash slash onto the roundabout
36:47Stand by.
37:01Get me on map in there, eh?
37:03Somewhere to my vehicle.
37:05Get down the floor now!
37:07Jesus!
37:09Down the floor now!
37:11Now! Down the floor!
37:13Down the floor!
37:15Now! Down the floor!
37:17Down on the floor! Now!
37:19Down on the floor!
37:21Hands behind your back!
37:23Hands behind your back!
37:25Now! Hands behind your back!
37:27Don't move!
37:29Male's at taser point, stand by.
37:31Get me your hands now!
37:33Don't reach!
37:35Do not reach!
37:37Don't! Do not reach!
37:39If that hand moves towards your waist, mate,
37:41you're gonna get tasered. You understand?
37:45You're under arrest failing to stop!
37:47Dangerous driving!
37:49Do not move!
37:51Okay!
37:53Two feet!
37:55Don't reach for anything!
37:57Walk with me!
37:59Walk!
38:01Okay!
38:03Four, nine, stay six!
38:09For the sake, he's not a bit so he's tiny!
38:11Yeah!
38:12Keeps wanting to reach!
38:13Keeps wanting to reach into his front!
38:15What do you keep reaching into your waistband for?
38:17What?
38:19What do you keep reaching into your waistband for?
38:21I was checking if I had my phone!
38:23You had your phone in your hand, mate!
38:25Don't give me that!
38:26I'll put it in my pocket and they'll sign to see if I've still got it!
38:29He's mouthing off!
38:31Man, I don't want to record him, bro!
38:33Man!
38:34Can you get recovery, please?
38:35Coding obstruction!
38:36You either get somebody that knows the game's up,
38:38they come quietly,
38:39or you get the complete opposite.
38:41Shouting, abuse, resistance.
38:43We very quickly get him under control,
38:45but then we need to start making sure
38:47that we get the evidence that we need
38:49as to why this person has failed to stop.
38:51What are you looking for?
38:53What have you got on your own?
38:55Well, there's drugs in the vehicle.
38:57Cannabis?
38:58Yeah.
38:59It's illegal.
39:00Quite a lot of passion here as well.
39:02Can I drive and get in the car?
39:04Initially, Dan's picked this vehicle up,
39:06and then once it's got to this junction here,
39:08for whatever reason,
39:09he's abandoned it in the middle of the road and ran off.
39:12I would hazard a guess that he probably lives somewhere nearby
39:14or he knows somebody that lives nearby,
39:16and he was going to that address to try and get away and hide,
39:18but Dan's been quick enough to catch him.
39:20Brought him back to the vehicle.
39:21There's a small amount of drugs in it,
39:23a bit of cannabis, a bit of cash.
39:25Because we found cannabis in the vehicle,
39:27I'm going to request you to provide a very short drug test.
39:30Test for the presence of cannabis.
39:31Stick your tongue out for me, please.
39:33I've got to watch this when you tell them.
39:34The test will take around eight minutes.
39:37He's quite low level.
39:39He's not got a massive quantity on him.
39:41As the man has previously been banned from the roads
39:44for driving without insurance,
39:46officers run more checks.
39:49Who's in this vehicle?
39:51On the keys.
39:52He says it's his own course.
39:54Right, he's got, say, full licence.
39:57He's got the keys in still.
39:59A search of the car raises further suspicions.
40:03It's a rental, mate.
40:05It's the same person that keeps renting it out.
40:07Looking at it, he's checked the car out on the 25th of May this year.
40:13And the lease is to run until the 29th of August.
40:17So it looks like, unless he's had any more paperwork,
40:21he's not returned it on time.
40:22Just insured as a rental as well.
40:24That's him.
40:25That's him.
40:26That's him.
40:27That's him.
40:28But he's a different person on the policy for the lease of this.
40:30Yeah.
40:31He's got no insurance, I think.
40:33We'll have it as a 165 for no insurance until we can prove otherwise.
40:38Because at the moment, obviously the documentation's out of date.
40:41So the vehicle's going to be recovered under section 165 of the Road Traffic Act
40:51because the chap driving it wasn't insured.
40:55He's been taken off to custody for failing to stop, dangerous driving,
40:59and also some sport drug drive as well.
41:02Just waiting on the results coming back for that now.
41:04So we shall crack on getting it recovered.
41:07It is really common for criminals to use rented vehicles to commit crime
41:14because it doesn't directly trace back to them.
41:16So they would generally get somebody to take that car out
41:19and it wouldn't necessarily be that person that drives it.
41:21It would be driven by anybody that wants to use it for criminality.
41:25Obviously the inquiries that we need to make in the daylight
41:28are just to get confirmation of who the actual owner of the vehicle is,
41:32who the leaser of the vehicle is,
41:34and did this chap have permission and insurance to drive it?
41:36At the moment, it looks like it didn't.
41:54Nearly a third of all offenders released from custody go on to re-offend.
41:59I don't like Bugbears being a traffic officer
42:02that we tend to find the same people coming in the same offences.
42:06The people that we do intercept and arrest
42:09always tend to have a history of offences,
42:12not just traffic offences, but burglary, theft.
42:15I think you'd do well to stop someone that's in a stolen vehicle
42:18that's not known to the police.
42:20I don't think they take it serious.
42:23They laugh and joke to you when you deal with them.
42:26You know, they'll even say sometimes,
42:27oh, we'll be back out in 12 hours' time here,
42:29or we'll see you this time next week.
42:31It's really sad that we spend the majority of our time
42:36dealing with those same individuals,
42:39because if those same individuals were in prison
42:42where they should be,
42:44then that would free our time up to be more proactive,
42:46but we're spending a lot of our time
42:48dealing with the same people in the custody suites
42:51and putting them back before the same corpse.
42:57In this episode, the suspect driver,
43:01who collided with a member of the public
43:03and crashed into someone's front garden...
43:05Fortunately, it's missed the house.
43:07..is awaiting trial for dangerous,
43:09drunk, disqualified and uninsured driving.
43:13You aren't, Alex?
43:15Not yet.
43:16If found guilty, he's likely to be sent back to prison.
43:21The wanted male was prosecuted for driving
43:25whilst disqualified and with no insurance
43:28and received six points and a £630 fine.
43:33No, I'm not giving you some.
43:34You're not giving me a sample?
43:35Do my eyes look like I'm on the...
43:37They do, actually, yeah.
43:39No action was taken for any drug-driving offences
43:42or the alleged burglary and assault.
43:45The suspect who fled from a rental car...
43:51Down on the floor!
43:53Now!
43:54Down on the floor!
43:55Hands behind your back!
43:57..is on police bail for failing to stop,
44:00dangerous driving, no insurance,
44:02possession of cannabis
44:04and driving whilst unfit through drugs.
44:08The serial thief who abandoned a stolen lorry on the M1...
44:12Opposite carriageway.
44:14..with a load full of stolen tyres,
44:16admitted dangerous, disqualified and uninsured driving
44:20and a breach of a suspended sentence.
44:22You're on arrest for theft of motor vehicle
44:25and theft of some tyres.
44:26He was jailed for 18 months.
44:31And the man arrested for breaching a curfew...
44:34What, it's still breach when you're not in that county?
44:36Yeah, of course it is.
44:37You have a curfew, aren't you?
44:38A curfew means you stop in, that's it.
44:40..is currently on police bail,
44:42awaiting a court appearance.
44:44.
