After a Florida man is reported missing, detectives zero in on his roommate, the last person to see him, before receiving a tip that breaks the case wide open.
Transcript
00:00Nobody knew where he was.
00:10Robert basically fell off the face of the earth.
00:12We knew something was wrong right away.
00:14I don't know where he's at.
00:16Did your brother tell you what to say to the police?
00:18No.
00:18You've got to tell us the rest of the story.
00:20They were in the kitchen.
00:21They were fighting.
00:22He said he f***ed.
00:24Hit him with a fine pen.
00:25They just were fighting?
00:26Yeah.
00:26Okay.
00:27What did he do with them?
00:29Because obviously you've been missing...
00:30Don't sit and tell us.
00:31I have no idea.
00:32Don't sit and tell us that you didn't say to him.
00:35What did you do with him after that?
00:36He's your brother.
00:37Kenneth, I'm scared of my brother.
00:39He's a little f***ing nuts.
00:40So just finish up the story and tell him the truth.
00:44Enough is enough.
00:59My brother, Robert, and I religiously spoke every week.
01:03There was instances where every day we would reach out to each other.
01:07But early December of 08, I stopped hearing from him.
01:11We knew something was wrong right away.
01:13There was no question.
01:15I kept calling and calling, and I got no answer.
01:17I said, he would have got back to me by now.
01:20We were trying to find him everywhere, like any other family would do in panic mode, especially
01:25being thousands of miles away.
01:26But nobody knew where he was.
01:29He basically fell off the face of the earth.
01:31My sister, more than myself, started calling his roommate at the time, Daniel Alexander, and
01:36saying, hey, he was living with you.
01:38Where is he?
01:39What's going on?
01:40He said, yes, he was here, but he's not anymore.
01:45I said, well, I know that, but I'm trying to find him.
01:49And he kept saying, no, no, I don't really know nothing really.
01:52And that was it.
01:54And at that point, it just started snowballing into this bigger, Rob's missing, Rob's missing.
02:00We waited about five days, and we called the police, put the missing persons report in,
02:04and we got the case going.
02:10Those records showed he had not used either since January 16th, 2009.
02:21Robert's family told us that prior to him going missing, Robert's mother passed away,
02:27and he inherited roughly $50,000.
02:30Once the money was deposited from his mother's inheritance, he was making, if not daily, every
02:37other day withdrawals from his account.
02:39So when he was no longer withdrawing money, that does not look good.
02:44All right, you're the roommate of our missing guy, Robert Garrett, and that you're one of
03:04the last people to see him.
03:06Can you just start off on how you met him?
03:08I met him through a friend of mine, and he called me on the phone one day, and, you
03:13know, he told me that he got kicked out of the place he was at.
03:16I said, you know, you can come crash on my couch for a couple weeks, and no problem, you
03:22know, until you find yourself a place.
03:23Did he live with you when his mom died?
03:25Yeah.
03:26Did he tell you how much his inheritance was?
03:28No.
03:29He told me that he hadn't actually gotten the inheritance cleared yet.
03:34I suspected that he was full of crap, and I kind of believed that he was lying to me
03:39about it because he was up in the $500 range of paying me electric, you know, his part
03:46of the electric.
03:46He owed you money.
03:47Yeah.
03:49So how did you come to know he was moving out?
03:51Did he tell you he was moving, he's got a place, or how did it happen?
03:55At first, no.
03:55I came home, and almost all his stuff was gone, so it was a surprise.
03:59I was like, oh, he must have found a place.
04:00I noticed right away that the guitar's gone, you know, this and that, you know, his clothes,
04:06most of his clothes are gone and everything.
04:08Did he come back, or what happened?
04:10One to two days later, he came back, and that's when he came back in the black Mercedes with
04:17the girl and picked up the remainder of his stuff.
04:20What happened?
04:22Did the female stay in the car?
04:23Yeah.
04:23Did she get out?
04:24Yeah, she stayed in the car.
04:26She was in the driver's seat.
04:28I mean, I could see, um, white female, mid-30s, early 40s, maybe.
04:37So did you guys talk about anything while you were inside?
04:39He asked me about leaving the truck there.
04:43I said, dude, no problem, man.
04:44You can leave it here.
04:45That's not a problem.
04:46Do you know of any places he frequented?
04:48He wasn't a drinker or something.
04:50There wasn't, like, bars or anything that he went to.
04:53Off seeing people.
04:54You know, I gotta go see some people.
04:57Okay.
04:58That's basically the kind of stuff.
04:58What did you think he was doing when he was out seeing people?
05:01Silent Hills.
05:02Silent Hills?
05:04He was pretty secretive about it.
05:06Okay.
05:07Yeah.
05:08Did you and him use together?
05:10Yes.
05:11Yeah.
05:12I know his use, I mean, just watching, way increased in the last, like, month or so that
05:19he was there, to where he was doing what I consider to be ungodly amounts.
05:28So what do you think happened to him?
05:31I don't know.
05:32I'm a speculator guy.
05:34Speculating?
05:34Yeah.
05:35I think that maybe he got mixed up with some wrong people selling and maybe somebody.
05:44I mean, you know, or it's possible that maybe he overdosed.
05:48Maybe somebody else.
05:50I mean, I don't know.
05:52Okay.
05:52I didn't pick up on any nervousness.
05:55He's answering all my questions, but I felt he wasn't being completely truthful with us.
06:01It wasn't making sense to us that Robert had just left his truck and left with a female
06:06in a Mercedes.
06:07We're thinking that Daniel wasn't being upfront and honest.
06:11The trailer itself was run down, but it looked like it was being freshly renovated, and we're
06:24seeing new flooring, fresh paint.
06:27Also, there was a pawn slip where Daniel had recently pawned a guitar and an amp.
06:34That does not look good because Daniel claimed that Robert had just left, that he took his
06:40guitar, he took his belongings, and was just gone.
06:43During the walkthrough, officers had gone through the garbage in the kitchen and noticed
06:49prescription bottles and syringes.
06:52Loved needle, too.
06:53Yeah, I saw that.
06:55Wow.
06:56Since it had been months since Robert had been in the home, when we came across those needles,
07:01we believe they were Daniel Alexander's.
07:04Daniel tried to portray that he was not using drugs as often as Robert, so that was a lie.
07:22Robert's brother, Christopher, had said Robert had moved around quite a bit while he was here
07:27in Florida, but was doing well, had some money.
07:30We never had any proof, no evidence, that Robert was a drug dealer.
07:35I felt like Daniel was painting a darker picture and trying to lead us down a different path.
07:43Robert was very well-liked around the town we grew up in, in Bloomfield, New Jersey.
07:47He was an excellent athlete, one of the best baseball players in the town when he was younger.
07:52Robert moved around a lot.
07:54He was like a free bird.
07:55He could never stay in one spot, but he always kept in touch with us.
07:59Rob would call me a lot, and he would put the phone down, and he would play guitar,
08:03and I would listen, because I loved it.
08:06We always had that connection.
08:08After moving down to Florida, he decided he wanted to stay down there.
08:12He liked it.
08:13He wanted to start his own business, a landscape business.
08:17Rob was very charismatic, outgoing, social.
08:20He would do anything for anybody.
08:22He was just a generally good-hearted person.
08:25A friend of Daniel, Larry Kelly, he had information that Daniel admitted to him that he had killed Robert.
08:48Larry Kelly knew Robert Harrison, and he saw Robert as a brother, as an uncle.
08:56He wanted to help us get the information.
08:59He explained that Daniel enlisted the help of his brothers, Donald Gould and Kenneth Alexander.
09:05He claimed that his brothers knew where the body was.
09:09How are you going?
09:35It's going good, man.
09:36So, what am I telling you?
09:38These people wanted to meet up with me and talk to me and f***ing what they did, what I had to, what I had to do?
09:45First of all, I told them, because he was freaked out around in this and that and the other.
09:49Now, that's why he left his truck there with me.
09:54Because he didn't want to drive it around.
09:55That's what I told them.
09:58Now, it wouldn't hurt if you said something to corroborate my story good.
10:04You know what I mean?
10:05Right.
10:06That would help me.
10:09Uh-huh.
10:11I mean, are you sure they have a freaking...
10:14Have they been to your house at all?
10:17I mean, like, checked it out?
10:19Go, please.
10:20Dude, I had the whole f***ing crime scene f***ing investigator f***ing CSI f***ing bombies was f***ing here, dude.
10:29The whole f***ing gig was out here, dude.
10:32I f***ing tore my f***ing butt out.
10:35I've torn the whole f***ing floor out.
10:38And I f***ing went up and down that f***ing trailer f***ing time, f***ing time, cleaning that f***ing truck.
10:45There ain't no way they didn't find f***ing s***.
10:49What about him, though?
10:55Where he is?
10:56It ain't f***ing a great spot, but if they had found him, they'd be here putting him under arrest.
11:03I ain't f***ing...
11:04My brother and I were really tight in terms of speaking all the time and sharing what's going on in our lives and talking to each other.
11:17He was just totally supportive.
11:20After my mom passed, Robert came up and spent some time in New Jersey.
11:24I saw him during my mom's services.
11:28And then shortly after that, he went back down to Florida.
11:32And that was the last time I saw him.
11:33So, basically, you want me just to tell every f***ing what?
12:02Well, I guess that he was a f***ing whacked out f***ing drug head, man.
12:09Okay.
12:11I'm just freaked the f*** out, dude.
12:12You know what I mean?
12:13There's nothing they can do to you, Larry.
12:15I mean, there's nothing at all.
12:17Number one, they don't know f***ing.
12:20So, no matter what they f***ing tell you, they don't know anything.
12:24And there's absolutely no way to link you to anything.
12:27So, if they came up with the f***ing you, we know this and we know that.
12:32Do you know there's a little f***?
12:34Do you know what you've freaked out about this at all?
12:36Well, yeah, I do.
12:37But, I mean, how much can I, you know, what can I do?
12:41I got to act mellow and, like, nothing's wrong.
12:45Yeah, I'm freaked out about it.
12:47But the whole thing is, if they don't find a f***ing fire, they won't do f***ing.
12:51We need to talk to all three of them in person at the same time.
13:20We don't want them talking to each other and letting each other know that they were talked to and to come up with a story.
13:30By the time my unit was taking Kenneth Alexander into custody, I was on my way to the station to interview Donald Gould.
13:38Donald was agitated.
13:40We didn't really have a whole lot of time to build a rapport.
13:44So, we decided to inform him why he was there and give him the opportunity to help himself by telling us what he knew.
13:51Donald, how are you?
13:54Did they explain to you why you're here?
13:57I don't know how they're going to do what.
13:58We're working a case now.
13:59We have been for the past couple weeks, okay, of a missing person, okay?
14:05I think I know who you're talking about.
14:07Okay, okay.
14:08Let me just test it to Chase.
14:10We received more information, okay?
14:13And he's not just missing.
14:16Yeah, he's missing, but he's not alive.
14:19Well, it couldn't have nothing to do with me, because I don't know.
14:22No, no, no, no.
14:22You didn't do the murder or killing or anything like that.
14:25I don't know anything about the thing.
14:27Okay.
14:27I think you know where he's at.
14:29And for closure for the family, and believe me, I would rather use you as a witness, okay?
14:35You understand that?
14:35Yeah.
14:36That's the difference between you walking out as a witness and cooperating with me and going,
14:41listen, I'm going to put this to rest.
14:43I know where he's at.
14:44I'll help you guys out.
14:45I'll get in the car with you.
14:46I'll point him out, and then you go home, okay?
14:49I can't do that.
14:51Why can't you do that?
14:52Because I have no f***ing idea where the guy is.
14:54Okay.
14:54You have kids?
14:55No.
14:56All right.
14:57You have a girlfriend or a wife?
14:58Yes, I do.
14:59Okay.
15:00I've been together with her for 11 years.
15:01Let's just say she shows up missing one day.
15:04She just, you can't find her.
15:06Anywhere.
15:08And you're working with the police department.
15:10Would you want to find her?
15:11Yes, I'd want to find her.
15:12Okay.
15:13So you have to, the family up in Jersey is looking for this guy.
15:17I know that.
15:18He's not alive, okay?
15:20I just want to know where he's at.
15:22So all you got to do is pick the body up.
15:23If I knew where the guy was, I would, I swear to God, I would tell you, man.
15:27I'm telling you, I've been working this.
15:29I know you have.
15:31I know you have.
15:32If I knew where this, where, if I knew anything, believe me, I would tell you,
15:35because I don't want to go to f***ing jail.
15:37Well, you know, we were told directly that Donnie knows where the body is.
15:41That's the fact.
15:42Whoever f***ing said that is a f***ing lying son of a bitch.
15:46Because I don't know s***.
15:48And that's the God's honest truth.
15:49I ain't going to sit here and lie to you until I go to f***ing jail over something.
15:53I ain't going to f***ing do it for nobody.
15:54I have no f***ing idea where the guy is.
15:57I thought he, Dan told me that he didn't kill the guy.
16:00That's what he told me.
16:01He told me the guy left with some girl in a car.
16:03Well, that's what he told everybody.
16:05That's what he f***ing told me.
16:06That's what, that's what he told everybody.
16:08The same to the police.
16:10This is the difference.
16:11I don't even hardly know Dan.
16:14I, my father f***ing left us when I was f***ing four years f***ing old.
16:19I just met Dan a few years ago.
16:21But see, let me explain something.
16:22So if we talk to Johnny Jones down the street or Mary Smith and they go,
16:26No, no, no, no, no.
16:28Donald f***ing told me where the body's at.
16:30Then I come back.
16:31How did I tell anybody where the body is?
16:32Then I go, all right, you go to jail because you lied to me.
16:35How did I tell anybody where the body is when I don't f***ing know where it is?
16:38Right, but I'm giving you the opportunity if you know where it is.
16:40I'm telling you right now.
16:41Whoever said that is f***ing dead-ass lying.
16:44I don't know where no body is.
16:46The information we were given contradicted that.
16:49So we couldn't just walk away.
16:51But the more we pushed him, the more upset he was.
16:55Some people come off angry and demanding because they want you to be in fear of them
17:01and stop talking to them.
17:03And some people had nothing to do with it and they want you to believe them.
17:07I didn't hide nobody.
17:09I didn't see him shoot nobody.
17:10I don't even know if he shot him a f***ing body or if he, how he f***ing killed this guy.
17:14Shot him, stabbed him, f***ing, whatever, sodomizing, what the f*** ever happened.
17:19Right.
17:21This is just f***ing.
17:23Relax.
17:24No big deal.
17:26My mom, my mom, I got, I got, my blood pressure is probably f***ing camping.
17:30All right, just relax.
17:31He told me he didn't kill the son of a b***.
17:34No, you lied to me.
17:35Yeah, well, you know what, I f***ing believe you, I believe you, I believe the f***er probably
17:41did kill the son of a b***.
17:43Why?
17:43Because, because he's a f***ing f***er sometimes.
17:48But, I don't know.
17:50No, he's just a f***er.
17:52Like an anger problem.
17:54I guess.
17:55Listen, I'll tell you, right now he was f***ing around one day and said that, you know,
18:00that f***er is probably dead or this and that, you know.
18:02I even told my girlfriend that, you know, he was telling me this s*** too.
18:06I said, the guy's been missing.
18:08And I said, uh, you know, you didn't kill the guy.
18:12He said, oh yeah, right.
18:15I killed him, buried his f***ing body out here.
18:18He just kind of like acted like, you know, he was f***ing around with me.
18:21Then he started laughing, you know, like he didn't f***ing do it, you know.
18:26Now I'm starting to think maybe he killed the son of a b*** now, see.
18:29Now you f***ing got me thinking he might have killed a b***.
18:32I thought he was f***ing jokingly.
18:45I swear to God, I didn't think he killed the son of a b***.
18:47I mean, was he specific on where he buried him?
18:51Yeah, you're right.
18:52He don't f***ing confide in me.
18:54He's barely known me but f***ing four years, maybe.
18:56Three, four f***ing years.
18:57But why is he going to tell?
19:02I mean, you know, you killed some f***ing body.
19:04Maybe he's a guy who's bothering him.
19:06I don't know.
19:07I got no f***ing idea.
19:08I don't f***ing.
19:09I mean, the reason you're here is because other people that we've been interviewing have said that you know where the body is.
19:16Did they say his brother or did they say Don?
19:19Donald, Donald, Donald, Donald.
19:21Well, that's f***ing f***ing.
19:23I'm just telling you.
19:24I'm telling you right now.
19:26There's another brother besides me.
19:29I know.
19:29Yeah.
19:30Is Kenny closer to Danny than you?
19:32Yeah.
19:32Oh, yeah.
19:33I want to know who f***ing said that I f***ing had something to do with this because they're lying.
19:42Well, I'll tell you after the investigation.
19:45The more we talked to Donald, it was apparent that he didn't know any more than what he had already told us.
19:53We had exhausted all means and we felt he had nothing to do with it.
20:03Today's day which state date?
20:09April 6th?
20:10Kenneth Alexander was picked up by Detective Randall Anderson.
20:15Randall Anderson had dealings with Kenneth.
20:18They had a good rapport with one another.
20:20So, Anderson spoke with them before.
20:22I spoke with them in the interview room.
20:24We were now banking on Kenneth letting us know and hoping he was the brother that knew where the body was.
20:33Kenny, again.
20:34I don't know where he's at.
20:36I don't know where he's at.
20:36What did he tell you?
20:39He didn't tell me.
20:40I told him I didn't want to know.
20:42I said, f***ing don't tell me nothing.
20:44I don't want to f***ing know, but he did tell me.
20:47They were both f***ing using drugs and f***ing.
20:49I don't know what it was about.
20:50I don't know why they was fighting.
20:52Start with it.
20:52You got to tell us the rest of the story.
20:55You can't cut us off like that.
20:56Just tell us the truth.
20:57Tell us the rest of the story.
20:58He said, well, this is what he told me.
21:00They were in the kitchen.
21:01They were fighting.
21:03He said he f***ing hit him with a frying pan.
21:06Did he hit him over the head or?
21:08In the head.
21:09Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was him.
21:10Go ahead.
21:10And I guess he f***ing got a kitchen knife out of the kitchen or something and finished him off.
21:17Okay.
21:17How did he finish him off?
21:18I don't know.
21:19I wasn't there.
21:20He didn't go into details about it.
21:22We don't think you were there.
21:23No, I wasn't there.
21:24Did Danny say if Robert had a weapon on him?
21:28No, I don't.
21:30No, I don't.
21:31They just were fighting?
21:32Yeah.
21:33Okay.
21:33In the kitchen?
21:34Just fighting or I don't know.
21:36Pretty much going at it.
21:38After he stabbed him, I'm assuming that he stabbed him.
21:40I'm assuming that too.
21:41Okay.
21:42What did he do with him?
21:44Because obviously he's been missing for...
21:46And don't sit and tell us that you didn't pay to him.
21:50What did you do with him after that?
21:53No.
21:53Your brother's not stupid, all right?
21:56After he killed him, did he take the body, get rid of the body, or did he leave him in the trailer for any length of time?
22:04I don't know.
22:05I assume that he just f***ing got rid of him right away.
22:07I mean, it's pretty stupid to leave him sitting there, wasn't it?
22:13I mean, why f***ing just let him sit there and rot or whatever?
22:17No, he f***ing got rid of the body.
22:19He got rid of the f***ing body.
22:20I don't know what he was saying.
22:22You know Danny pretty good.
22:23He said he f***ing took him out in the woods and buried him, but I have no idea what a f*** that is.
22:28All right.
22:28Knowing Danny, would he feel safe if it was on the property or down the street?
22:34I don't know.
22:36It wouldn't make sense to leave him on the property.
22:39Yeah, but he knows the property.
22:41Yeah, he knows the property like the back of his hand, I guess.
22:45Did he say when he did this?
22:47Not exactly.
22:49Did he tell you what to say to police?
22:51No.
22:52Okay.
22:52I never figured.
22:55But I mean, everybody's saying that he was picked up.
23:00So obviously he says, don't say nothing to nobody.
23:03I said, what did you f***ing tell me?
23:04I don't want to f***ing know.
23:06And I didn't want to know.
23:07I didn't want to know anything.
23:09Right.
23:09Did your brother Donald go with him to get rid of the body?
23:13No.
23:14Donnie wouldn't go anywhere with him.
23:16Obviously somebody helped him.
23:17He's your brother.
23:18Somebody helped him.
23:20I don't know who it was.
23:22You can't do that all by yourself, man.
23:24Rob's a big guy.
23:25Can I do your brother?
23:27He's six foot, 200 pounds.
23:29Are you going to drag nothing out of your mouth?
23:30Yeah, I'm my f***ing brother strong, just like I said.
23:33F***, I could move that much f***ing weight under pressure.
23:35No, no, no, no.
23:35You don't understand it.
23:36It's dead weight.
23:37There's a lot more.
23:38It doesn't matter.
23:39I could move that much weight under pressure.
23:41Okay.
23:41I know.
23:42Here's the deal.
23:43We said to you that somebody saw you in the truck with him and we believed you were with
23:50him and take us to the body.
23:52You think you'd get in trouble for that?
23:53I wasn't with him.
23:54And I told this detective who's been doing this a lot longer than me, I said, I got this
23:58guy.
23:59This guy is going to tell us the truth.
24:01And if he tells us the truth, he gets to go home tonight.
24:05What can I say, man?
24:06But the bottom line is that when you first came in here, you told us you didn't know
24:09anything.
24:11Then you changed the story to that.
24:12No, it was about first.
24:13And then you told us he didn't tell you anything.
24:15Well, I just told you.
24:16And then you told us he didn't tell you where he put it.
24:18So just finish up the story on good terms with Detective Boyle and tell him the truth.
24:23Enough is enough.
24:24Yeah, I'm scared of my brother.
24:39There you go.
24:40You're afraid of him.
24:41And if you're afraid of him, you're going to do what he tells you to do.
24:44That's the bottom line.
24:46He's a little nuts.
24:47He's crazy.
24:48He's crazy.
24:50So if he made you go in the truck with him, tell us where so we could get this thing over
24:54and you guys put me in prison for the rest of the world.
24:56No, no, no.
24:57You're, no, let me explain something to you.
24:59You're a witness, period.
25:01No, that's not the way it works.
25:02I've been doing this for 20 years, okay?
25:05Believe me when I say this.
25:07You get in a truck with me, you can get in a truck with him.
25:10Drive him to where the body's at, and you go home.
25:13I'm giving you my word, bro, right now.
25:15That's all I can give you is my word.
25:17That's all I have to give you is my word.
25:19Tell me the truth and take me there, because if you continue to lie to Detective Boyle,
25:22and he proves you were there, then you're an accessory.
25:24Right now, you're not.
25:25Well, let's go.
25:26Right now, you're a witness.
25:27I'll show you where time.
25:28Let's go.
25:28When he came out and said, I'll show you where the body's at, immediately, Randall
25:35Anderson drove Kenneth to the scene.
25:37In the meantime, we wanted to talk to Daniel, because there is a ticking clock.
25:42If he says, I'm not talking to you anymore, we're done.
25:46So we decided to start this interview bluffing that we had the body, because he's very sure
25:53of himself, very confident, very relaxed.
25:56Confronting him, it kind of keeps him off his game.
26:00Like we last spoke, we've been working on this, like, morning and night, okay?
26:07And we got some information, okay?
26:13And we interviewed a couple people today, and we located Robert.
26:21You did?
26:22Yeah.
26:24Okay.
26:24One of the persons that we interviewed is your brother, okay?
26:33And he's the one that pointed out the body, okay?
26:37I know something happened in the kitchen between you and Robert, okay?
26:43Okay.
26:43I need to hear it from you, okay?
26:47Because there's two sides of the story, okay?
26:52Whether or not he attacked you, or he went after you for some reason, I don't know what
26:57happened, man.
26:58Okay?
26:59I just want the truth.
27:00That's it.
27:01So we can get some closure to this and put an end to it.
27:04Okay?
27:05That just doesn't even sound right.
27:09Well, what doesn't sound right?
27:10Explain to me what doesn't sound right.
27:12We had Kenneth and Donald both in here today.
27:16Right.
27:17Kenneth drove us to the body.
27:20He told us his side of the story of what happened.
27:27Now we want to hear your side.
27:30Was it self-defense?
27:31Was it something?
27:32What happened?
27:34I know Robert was a pain in the ass.
27:36I know you guys had your differences.
27:37I know that, man.
27:38Yeah, but it's...
27:39We know he's hot-tempered.
27:41And I know there's pills involved, you know?
27:44You're both on it, you know?
27:47Is it possible one night you were just so high, or he pitched you off, and you went at
27:51it, or both of you were high and went at it?
27:54Correct me if I'm wrong, because you're sitting there not saying anything.
27:58Well, because this is all floored.
28:00It's all got me floored.
28:01I don't see where any of this is coming from.
28:04It's coming from your flesh and blood.
28:06That's where it's coming from.
28:07Okay?
28:09Did he help you do it?
28:12He wasn't involved with anything.
28:16I'll give you yes and no answers.
28:18Did you and Robert have a fight?
28:20No.
28:22Did you kill Robert?
28:25No.
28:26Did you accidentally hurt him?
28:28No.
28:29Okay.
28:31What are you thinking of?
28:35Just not understanding, you know, Ken.
28:38I just don't understand.
28:41Where did he take you to?
28:43We can't tell you until you talk.
28:45We can't say anything.
28:47It just doesn't make any sense.
28:49Hey, Danny.
28:50You made a mistake.
28:52Right?
28:53I make all kinds of mistakes, man.
28:56Right.
28:56But this one was stupid.
29:00And you regret it.
29:02Yes?
29:04I regret having that guy ever move in with me, man.
29:07I mean, it's been nothing but a hassle from day one, you know?
29:10Right.
29:10So what happened?
29:13You guys are in the kitchen.
29:15What happened?
29:16Or did it start before the kitchen?
29:19Well, the time was crazy, man.
29:21I mean...
29:22All right.
29:23Is it possible he came after you?
29:26And you defended yourself?
29:27That's what happened.
29:28You know, I had asked him to leave.
29:41Right.
29:42You know?
29:42I mean, pack up his stuff and, you know, you need to go.
29:46Right.
29:49He ran over and got in my face and said, I'm not going anywhere.
29:54At that point, I was like, you know,
29:56it kind of freaked me out a little bit.
30:00Scared you?
30:00Yeah.
30:01I was like, dude, man, you need to get your stuff together and go.
30:05And he said, I'll do whatever I damn well please.
30:08Right.
30:10He just was taking so much drugs.
30:12Right.
30:15And how did it escalate from there?
30:17I mean...
30:19I tried to walk away from the situation.
30:23And he came after me.
30:24Okay.
30:24I didn't get hurt.
30:26I don't...
30:28Well, he's lucky.
30:29And I didn't have anything to defend myself with.
30:32Right.
30:33Yeah.
30:34So you grabbed the closest thing next to you or...
30:37No, I fought with him.
30:40He came and tried to get me with the knife and I grabbed his hand.
30:44And I don't know how we struggled around and rolled over, but I ended up getting a hold of his hand and as we fell to the floor, it jabbed him.
30:57And then what?
30:59He was kind of laying there bleeding and I f***ing hopped up and hauled ass, man, because I was freaked out, man.
31:11Yeah.
31:11He only jabbed himself once.
31:15Yeah.
31:16Did you hit him with anything?
31:17No.
31:18No.
31:18Grab a two-by-four and whack him over the head?
31:21No.
31:22When did you...
31:22I was scared, man.
31:23I was really scared.
31:25I would, too.
31:26Now, when did you return back to the residence?
31:31That...
31:32Did you go back that night?
31:36Yeah, but it was a few hours later.
31:39Okay.
31:39What'd you do then?
31:40Or what did you see?
31:43He was still lying there, man.
31:44I didn't think it poked him that bad.
31:49He was lying there dead.
31:51Well, what'd you do next?
31:53Did you try to hide the body then?
31:54Did you put him in something?
31:57I was stuck him in the bathtub for a little while.
32:01Right.
32:02How long was he in the bathtub for?
32:06Um, okay, two days.
32:09Okay.
32:10If Robert attacked Daniel and he defended himself, he would run out of the house and call the police to come and help.
32:17You wouldn't take somebody, put him in your bathtub, and dispose of their body.
32:21And then cover up a murder with the new floor and the renovation.
32:26So it made zero sense to us that there was any type of self-defense.
32:32A couple days ago by, what'd you do with him out of the tub?
32:38Well, I had to do something until I got scared and I was buried behind.
32:45What'd you put him in?
32:47In plastic.
32:49Plastic bags?
32:52No.
32:52No?
32:54No.
32:54What'd you do?
32:57What'd you do?
32:58This is just, uh...
33:01This is what?
33:04I mean, you're sitting there grinning.
33:06No, I'm just...
33:09Talk to me.
33:10Just if you guys knew so much, you'd know all of that.
33:16And I don't understand why you're asking me that.
33:18I have to hear from you.
33:21So you decide to bury him.
33:25Did you drag him out?
33:26Or did you do burlap?
33:27No.
33:29Burlap, burlap, burlap.
33:30I left the room because we had to have made some progress finding Robert's body.
33:37So I left the room to go find out any updates.
33:40I don't have my radio.
33:41Please.
33:45You want me to do that for you, bud?
33:47No, I'm good, man.
33:50How heavy are they?
33:52I talked to the investigative team that went with Kenneth out to the burial site.
33:57And they advised they had found a shallow grave with four plastic containers with concrete mixed in, buried.
34:07Every bin was literally full of concrete with little bones sticking out.
34:12Once I learned they found the body, that gave me the upper hand in the next part of our interrogation.
34:21Okay.
34:22You came back.
34:24What?
34:24How'd you clean the house?
34:25I was with blood on the floor.
34:29Clean.
34:30Okay.
34:32So I kind of missed out.
34:33So can I at least tell them what we do now?
34:35Yep.
34:35Okay.
34:37We know that you went out north, out by the gas station on the trail road back there, and dropped off four containers with cement.
34:46Say it's not in a bag.
34:50It's not a one piece.
34:51I'm not cutting.
34:52Yeah.
34:53Yeah.
34:53Yeah.
34:54It's not.
34:54We're telling you that we've been told what happened.
34:59And now we've got to determine what the true story is.
35:04And you're the only one that knows because you were there from the beginning.
35:07Now you've got to tell us what happened next.
35:18I just want you to know that we're not calling your bluff.
35:21Yeah, no.
35:21That's my biggest thing.
35:22I don't want you to think we're lying to you.
35:24That we know.
35:24At this point, we did not know of the head wound or the stab wounds on Robert.
35:48But I decided to push Daniel a little more to try to get him to talk about the injuries Robert sustained.
35:57So I bluffed.
35:58Did he come after you when you turned around because you were in the kitchen cooking or something and you just hit him with a frying pan?
36:04Or a pan?
36:07Dan, this is a time to...
36:08I just...
36:09Well, it's either yes or no.
36:11Yeah, yeah.
36:12Okay.
36:14Yeah.
36:14And then he kept coming at me.
36:16I mean, I didn't even really think about that until you said that, you know?
36:22Dan, we need you to tell us what happened.
36:24When he came at me, I turned around to try and block him with that and I hit him with a frying pan.
36:31Well, if that's the case, why didn't you tell us he hit you with a frying pan?
36:34You hit him with a frying pan.
36:36Why do I...
36:37This is why we asked you what happened.
36:38Why do I have to tell you what happened before you tell us what happened?
36:41I didn't think about that.
36:43I honestly didn't think about that.
36:45I was thinking about the knife.
36:47Really.
36:48I think you were thinking beforehand, we really didn't have a body and we just...
36:51We didn't know.
36:52We were just pulling you for information.
36:55But now you know we do, right?
36:56I was scared.
36:59I was scared.
36:59So if you truly were acting in self-defense, why wouldn't you call the police and say,
37:03this guy just attacked me.
37:05I just stabbed him.
37:06That's what a normal person would say.
37:09Call 911 and say, I was being attacked.
37:12I'm outside right now.
37:13He's inside.
37:15Can you get here?
37:16It was stupid for me to not call.
37:21Okay.
37:21How many times did you stab him?
37:23Just once.
37:24I mean, and that was in a tussle falling to the floor.
37:27I mean, that's...
37:28All right.
37:29That is true.
37:29Okay.
37:30But I told you, there's no main autopsy.
37:32Well, I mean, you know, any other...
37:34Did anybody stab him?
37:35Obviously, to get him in four different containers, it took terrible things.
37:42Who cut him up?
37:42I did.
37:44Where did you use to cut him up?
37:46Knife.
37:48I mean, it's...
37:48It's a knife.
37:51Where did you cut him?
37:55Pretty much just an ember.
37:57But, you know, in the house or outside?
38:00In the house.
38:01In your house?
38:02In the bathtub.
38:05In the bathtub.
38:07But where on his body?
38:08Like, what parts are with each other?
38:11You don't know?
38:12Well, no.
38:13I mean, I have to take the arms off, the head off, legs off.
38:17I mean, to make it all fit.
38:19Isn't that hard work?
38:20I mean...
38:21Well, I have some butchering knowledge from working over at the club.
38:28It was a terrible thing to have to do, but...
38:31It wasn't that difficult.
38:34You did this by yourself?
38:35Yeah.
38:35At what point did you call Kenneth?
38:37It wasn't until a week or two later.
38:40I told him...
38:41I think I told him what happened.
38:44I said, I'm in trouble, and I just need this favor.
38:49Stuff was too heavy for me, so he helped me load it up.
38:56Helped me load it up and drag it off.
38:58He thought he was afraid for me, yeah.
39:04Where's the frying pan now?
39:06Threw it in a dumpster.
39:08It's been worn for months.
39:09Where's the knife?
39:10Where's all this stuff?
39:12That alcohol's off the trash.
39:14His guitar.
39:18You pawned it?
39:19Yeah.
39:19Okay.
39:20What was the purpose of the concrete?
39:24Quite honestly, that that was going to be...
39:30I was going to put it in the ocean and sink it to the bottom.
39:34It just never worked out that way.
39:36How come that didn't work out?
39:38I just...
39:38There wasn't a way to do it.
39:40No boat.
39:41What's going to happen to me now, Jen?
39:46I don't know.
39:47We got to, you know, finish the investigation and see what's going on.
39:52All right, let me step out.
40:00I was happy to just be done with it and to be able to show that he's a cold, calculated murderer.
40:07My theory as to motive is Robert receiving this inheritance money.
40:13And I feel that Daniel Alexander thought he was being a friend to somebody, giving him a place to stay.
40:21And now he's got all this money and he's not giving it to him.
40:25Maybe an argument started, but this is all speculation.
40:30We've wrapped it.
40:31We put the bow on top.
40:33We now have to wait for the jury to unwrap it.
40:37Daniel Alexander facing a judge for the first time today.
40:51Alexander is accused of killing his roommate, 39-year-old Robert Harrison, by hitting him with a frying pan, stabbing him to death, and then, according to authorities, cutting up his body.
41:01The autopsy revealed that Robert had blunt trauma to the head and multiple stab wounds to the torso, but no obvious defensive wounds.
41:24There was nothing on Robert's body telling us that he was in a fight with Daniel.
41:32He was attacked.
41:34Daniel Alexander was found guilty of second-degree murder.
41:38He was sentenced to life in prison, and he received an additional 15 years for abuse of a body.
41:46Daniel will go for the rest of his life, and hopefully it will be a miserable existence for him.
41:50Charges were not filed against Donald Gould and Kenneth Alexander.
41:56With Donald Gould, we never had any proof that he had any part of what Daniel Alexander did.
42:03And because of what Kenneth did in helping us recover the body, charges were not filed against him.
42:11I was satisfied at the outcome.
42:17We knew that we couldn't bring Robert Harrison back, but it was rewarding to be able to return him to his family, and then to give them justice.
42:32I just miss having my older brother.
42:37I don't have it.
42:40Never will.
42:40And it's hard some days, not having Rob anymore, and just that connection, the daily phone call, whatever it was.
42:54It's gone.
42:55It's permanent.
42:57So, in my mind, he's with me in spirit, and I have to just carry that on till I'm gone.
43:05So, in my mind, he's with me in spirit, and I have to just carry that on till I'm going in spirit, and I'm going in spirit, and I'm going in spirit, and I'm going in spirit, and I'm going in spirit, and I'm going in spirit, and I'm going in spirit, and I'm going in spirit, and I'm going in spirit, and I'm going in spirit, and I'm going in spirit, and I'm going in spirit, and I'm going in spirit, and I'm going in spirit, and I'm going in spirit, and I'm going in spirit.
43:08Amen.
