00:00:00What's up, guys? Wednesday, Wake Up Barstool. T-Bob A. Bear, Brandon Walker, Evo, Connor
00:00:05Gripping, KB. We got a very big show planned for you today, okay, guys? A lot to get to.
00:00:10We got the four play boys stopping by. They're going to talk Ryder Cup. We got an extra big
00:00:14eensy-teensy Evo baseball segment. We got Connor Griff ins and outs, Hannah Montoya
00:00:20football fashion report, and we got Rico Bosco in studio talking about the retirement of
00:00:25Bruce Pearl. Mike Gundy fired, starting there. Wake Up Barstool FS1. Let's go.
00:00:30Hello, world, and happy Wednesday. Once again, Evo denied a
00:01:00fist bump to start the show by his mean pseudo-father, Brandon Walker.
00:01:06His mentor. His mentor. His mentor. His mentor. His mentor, Brandon Walker.
00:01:09His hero. My idol. Oh, wow. You really are submissive, aren't you?
00:01:18Right after this man denied you a fist bump on television to start the show, you call him
00:01:22your idol? Yeah, he's my hero. I just want to play a game of catch with him one day.
00:01:26Yeah, okay, yeah. Will you? Will you walk out of that cornfield one day for...
00:01:29It's a continuing saga, and we'll find out. We really will. T-Bob Aver, Brandon Walker,
00:01:34Evo O'Connor. KB, what's up, dog? What's up, boys? How we doing today?
00:01:38KB got his own laptop. Oh, no way. First time in years.
00:01:42Wait, what? Is this like a fresh one from work? I feel like we have boxes of really nice
00:01:48laptops here ready to go for people. Shout out our wonderful tech support staff. We're here
00:01:53at Barstool Sports. This is Wake Up Barstool. We got... Dude, this is probably... It's the
00:01:57middle of football season, but this is likely the most varied show we are going to do, maybe
00:02:02all season long. Baseball's heating up. We got the foreplay guys coming on, but we will
00:02:08start with football. As it is announced yesterday, after 20-plus years at the helm, Mike Gundy is
00:02:17out at Oklahoma State. Of course, this follows a terrible loss, embarrassing loss to Tulsa
00:02:23there on Friday night. As Brandon's laid out many times, it's one of many impending job
00:02:29changes in this sport, and it's ahead of a massive weekend. Brandon, initial reaction
00:02:34to Gundy being let go?
00:02:37I... Honestly, kind of sad. Like, this is a guy that's been there longer than everybody.
00:02:41Other than Ferentz, he's the most tenured coach we have in college football, and now he's
00:02:45out. I just thought it would end better than this for him. He competed so long in a much
00:02:50tougher Big 12 than we have now. He competed so long against the likes of Texas and Oklahoma,
00:02:55and he had Oklahoma State up there year in, year out, competing for the championship, winning
00:03:00ten games when he didn't think they could win ten games. And now, all of a sudden, we
00:03:03go into the new era of college football, and we are seeing guys get left behind. It might
00:03:07be happening at Clemson, and it happened there at Oklahoma State. Now we have a job that's
00:03:11open. As we go into the new era of the Big 12, you have your Houston's and your BYU's
00:03:16and your Arizona State's. I always thought Oklahoma State was uniquely positioned to take the banner
00:03:21and be that leading franchise sort of there in that conference, and they haven't done it,
00:03:27so now they're going to, I guess they're going to double down on football and try to do it.
00:03:30I was just sad that we're not going to have any of Mike Gundy anymore.
00:03:33Yeah, well, I mean, look, and I think before we go any further, speaking of Mike Gundy, he's
00:03:38given us so many sound bites through the years, so many haircuts. The mullet the last few years
00:03:45has been fantastic, but in honor of him, let's play his most famous moment, of course, when
00:03:51he declared his manhood. That's depressing how long ago that was. Yeah. That's not the same
00:03:57guy. That is depressing. Are we sure that's the same guy? Almost 20 years ago, right? He looks
00:04:01great for 40, by the way, there. Yeah, I do want to say, though. He looks great for whatever
00:04:04he is now. Exactly. The anniversary of that video was Monday. Oh. They then fired him the
00:04:10very next day, so we were celebrating. Oh, like, ha, ha, ha, ha. I'm a man. I'm 40. We love this
00:04:15clip. And then immediately right after that, he just canned. So I don't know if they waited an
00:04:19extra day to possibly avoid firing him on the anniversary of what the case is. That was a sad
00:04:25scene. Is that number one press conference soundbite of all time in college football? Like,
00:04:30is that up there with, like, the college football? It's way up there. We need some
00:04:33dogs. It's way up there. No, I think this is number one. Yeah. College football, this
00:04:38is number one. I think this is absolutely number one. And it's in the running for number
00:04:41one press conference moment of all time. I would say Allen Iverson's, we're talking about
00:04:45practice, maybe Jim Moore's playoff. Yep, Jim Moore's playoff. And Denny Green. They
00:04:50are who we thought they were. Yeah. Well, Howard Edwards. Yeah, you played to win the
00:04:53AFC. But I think this is way up there. And it's, again, 20 years, almost 20 years
00:04:58ago. And he's had such a great legacy. And I think Oklahoma State did everything they
00:05:03could not to fire him. They went longer than a lot of teams would, a lot of schools would.
00:05:08And now they finally said, you know what, losing to Tulsa is just too far. It's a bridge
00:05:13too far. Let's own and test these guys. Who was the, who did, who did, who did Mike Gundy
00:05:19take over for at Oklahoma State? Never. No, no idea. Mike Gundy has been there the entire
00:05:25time I've been there. This is going to drive home the point of Gundy's tenure. Who did
00:05:29he take over for at Oklahoma State? Multiple choice. Um, ah, nah, nah, that's going to
00:05:34get too dragged out. Uh, Les Miles. Mm-hmm. Les Miles pre-LSU was the last coach at Oklahoma
00:05:41State before Mike Gundy. And now they are entering. Les Miles feels like he's had like two careers
00:05:46since then. Yes. Yeah. No, he has. I mean, he's yes. I mean, absolutely. I was, uh, with
00:05:51him for much of it. KB, um, anything on the, on the Gundy firing has, uh, have you, have
00:05:57you found anything of note? Um, he lost to Tulsa on his wife's birthday. Oh. No. In
00:06:06a really crappy week. Oh, dude, no way, man. That sucks. Uh, well, at least they waited
00:06:12until after the weekend then. It was his wife's birthday weekend. They waited until after.
00:06:16Yeah. Yeah. Maybe went out to a nice dinner. Yeah. They could at least try to chillies.
00:06:19Yeah. The, uh, the last thing that I'll say is that it is funny how this firing has
00:06:24been immediately tied in with Dabo. They're viewed as kind of being two of the old guard
00:06:29championing the college football of yore, uh, refusing to change. And Gundy has now fallen.
00:06:35We'll see what ends up happening to Dabo. Before we move on to Jackson Dart, I'll leave you with
00:06:39a quote here that I found in The Athletic that is very depressing for us old guys. Quote,
00:06:44the thing about aging is that there is inevitably a moment when all that wisdom and experience you've
00:06:51been accruing over the decades begins to curdle. When what you've been through before blinds you
00:06:57to what's happening right now. Hmm. Why'd you say that? Sounds like Game of Thrones. What? Who
00:07:02wrote that? Right. What's a great line? That's a tough start to the morning. Seven minutes in. No,
00:07:07I know. Seven or a Wednesday and I'm facing my mortality. Nothing I do matters in this world.
00:07:15No, no, no, no. Okay. But that's not how we're going to take it guys. We're going to take it as
00:07:20I'm, I'm, I'm blanking on the author's name on the top of my head. I apologize. But yes,
00:07:23the great piece about Gundy, but the point is we got to continue to innovate. Okay.
00:07:29Yelling at the cloud. Eventually, like you said, your knowledge, keep moving forward, right?
00:07:33You can sit here and complain about AI and everything else, but risk getting left behind
00:07:38maybe. All right. Moving forward though, this Oklahoma state job is now open. Yes. Uh,
00:07:42Virginia tech is open. UCLA is open. Some of their jobs will come open. Where does Oklahoma
00:07:45state rank now among those three? As the ones that are open, it's number one. Yeah. It's
00:07:49number one. Number one. I think it's number one, but again, uh, Florida is going to come
00:07:53open. That, that immediately jumps to the top of the heap. Um, you know, Arkansas come open
00:07:58probably Arkansas is going to come open. So I think Oklahoma state's going to be in good
00:08:02shape, especially if they stay in that geographic footprint. I think there's a lot of young
00:08:05coaches, uh, in the Oklahoma, Texas area that they're looking for a move up, uh, and are
00:08:11looking for a big opportunity at a big time program. And I think they're going to have
00:08:15maybe their pick of the litter in that part of the country. Yeah. Uh, listen to a necessary
00:08:19roughness. We'll dive into replacements more. They're recording later. It's going to be
00:08:23great. Uh, speaking of moving forward though, the giants, okay. Refusing to let their wisdom
00:08:29curdle, even though I guess they don't have much to begin with to curdle. Uh, but Jackson
00:08:34dart announced as the, uh, starter for the New York giants come Sunday. They have officially
00:08:39broken the glass, right? First round quarterback breaking case of emergency. Oh, and three
00:08:44Russell Wilson dug his own grave. The final goal line series, uh, on Monday night or Sunday
00:08:50night was just one of the most atrocious four play sequences you could possibly see. They
00:08:56wanted to wait until the saints apparently, but now they're having to throw him at the
00:09:00deep end against the chargers. So again, I would have, I would have taken advantage of
00:09:04that Cowboys game in week two, where they played a team, a defense that gave up 450 yards
00:09:09and four touchdowns to Russell Wilson. I would have let Jackson dart have that defense as my
00:09:13first game, because I think he would have put up big numbers. Ultimately though. I don't
00:09:16think it matters which game you throw him into. This is a first round quarterback who played
00:09:21four years in college football, three for Lane Kiffin. If he's not going to be ready at
00:09:25any time this year, then he's not going to be ready. You just have to find out. You
00:09:29have to throw him in there. This is a guy who is, uh, again, four years of seasoning
00:09:33in college football. He's as ready as he's going to be ever. Let's go. Let's find out
00:09:38what we got. Also, there's a lot of talk always about these high drafted quarterbacks who people
00:09:43are like, Oh, well, you know, you got to let them learn the system. You have to let them
00:09:47adapt to the NFL game first before you throw them into the fire. You get that luxury.
00:09:51If you're a good team, the giants are terrible. Yeah. They're going nowhere with
00:09:55Russell. The Packers could do it. The Packers could do it. They had, they had
00:09:58Aaron Rodgers. Yeah, exactly. You can't really do it here. Plus I know that this
00:10:02upcoming class of quarterbacks isn't delivering so far this season, but there
00:10:06are still a lot of good names. I'm saying the guys like, no, no, no. I know. I know what
00:10:10you're saying. But if you're the giants, wouldn't you rather know at least a little
00:10:15bit with Jackson dart? Like, yeah, this kid's got something we can work with this or do
00:10:18they want to throw him in there? And if he's bad, they could still pivot and get
00:10:21another quarter. I don't even think they're even considering pivoting. They
00:10:23just went, they just traded up in the first round to get this guy. Okay. I
00:10:26think they're all in on this guy. And if you're all in on somebody, then be all in
00:10:30on it. Exactly. I feel like Jackson dart is going to be a great redemption art
00:10:33quarterback that we see in about three years. I feel like it won't work out in
00:10:36New York. It's going to become a Sam Darnold, Daniel Jones situation. This man
00:10:39hasn't started yet. No, I'm already counting them out. I'm already counting them out.
00:10:43Not because I don't think Jackson dart is good, but because I don't think the
00:10:45giants are a good situation for anybody to be. No, I think he goes spot on there. I mean, we live in an
00:10:50air. Can we let the man throw a pass? I am. I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm rooting for him. This is not a
00:10:54criticism of dart. Maybe he ends up being awesome. It's just in the context of the
00:10:59giants, it's hard to see. Look what happened to Saquon when he left. Look what's
00:11:02happened to Daniel Jones since he's left. Like the common denominator there is a, is
00:11:07an organization that has been a joke for over a decade. All right. Well, hold on. Let me, let me
00:11:12push back against it a little bit. Like last year, Malik neighbors was a rookie and Daniel
00:11:16Jones was pretty much done already. It was, it was, it was over. It was finished. It was
00:11:20Finito. Now Jackson dart comes in. Malik neighbors is a legit number one. They got a couple of
00:11:24good options at number two and three. They've got some receivers. They, they got Scadaboo
00:11:28could become the number one running back. Like this is an offense that could be primed
00:11:31to pop and could be primed to get a lot better real quick. And with a number one quarterback,
00:11:36they can do it. And they had Saquon Barkley, the number one running back in the NFL. They
00:11:40did nothing. That regime didn't work. That regime didn't work. But let the new regime try.
00:11:45I will. It's not a new regime. Let the new, let the new players try. Yes. I'm going to
00:11:50look Jackson dart was fantastic in the preseason. Uh, well over 65% completion, three tuts, no
00:11:56picks. He ran the ball. Well, had another touchdown on the ground. So he was tantalizing what we
00:12:00saw before the season. I just, I'm kind of with Ebo in that. I feel for him. Like I, I,
00:12:04this is a rough situation to assume the helm of it is toxic and bad. Poor guy being the number
00:12:09one pick in New York city. It's a lot of pressure. I mean, it's terrible. It is not a well run
00:12:15franchise. He also doesn't, he, no one told him how to use the easy passes. That's true.
00:12:19He's getting restaurant reservations from Eli Manning. Oh wait, guys, I forgot. Brandon's
00:12:24an Ole Miss guy. No wonder he's stumping free packs and darts so hard. Okay. That makes it.
00:12:29No, he, yeah, yeah. Now, now, now, now, now. I'll jump slap, kick you. Uh, no, of course,
00:12:36Brandon's the number one Mississippi state representative in the country. I just, can
00:12:41we, can we let the man start before we write his eulogy in New York? Can we give
00:12:45him, can we give him a game? I just want everybody to temper their expectation. I think
00:12:50I'm protecting Jackson Dart by saying that, look, let's accept that if it maybe doesn't
00:12:55look great, there are greater forces at play here. As long as you still get to see some
00:12:58flashes of what could be, but it is not going to be smooth. Especially the
00:13:02Chargers have a solid defense too. The bottom line is, the bottom line is, it
00:13:06saves us from having to watch Russell Wilson play quarterback in the year of
00:13:09our Lord 2025. And if that is what we can take from this, that's what I'm taking
00:13:13from it. Um, what I'm taking from this is I cannot wait for this weekend. College
00:13:17football this Saturday is, I mean, it's just astounding. One of the better days I
00:13:21can remember. Yeah. Yeah. Again, I don't want to be hyperbolic, but certainly in
00:13:26recent memory, I don't know if I can remember something, a slate so chock full. I want to
00:13:32get to the SEC, but first I think we should congratulate Connor. Penn State season finally
00:13:37get underway. What's today's date? September what? 24th. 24th. Connor, how about it, dude?
00:13:43So, uh, what? Three more days. 28, 27th. 27th. Season's finally getting started. How we
00:13:48feel in Oregon this weekend? Whiteout? Yes. Night? Yes. Happy Valley? Yes. Wow. All of it. Wow. This is the
00:13:56day of our lives. Uh, it's the day of your life. This is going to be absolutely
00:14:01massive. It is the biggest whiteout matchup since my freshman year of college, seven
00:14:07years ago, eight years ago. Uh, this has not happened very often where we get two
00:14:11top 10 teams at night in Beaver stadium, whiteout atmosphere. The fans have been
00:14:15clamoring for a matchup like this in the whiteout for a long time. We finally got it
00:14:20and it is, I'm ready to stamp it. The biggest game of James Franklin's career.
00:14:24Mmm. It's the biggest game of James Franklin's career. This is a must win game. I feel like
00:14:30there's almost like little to no stakes for Penn State because they're going to lose to Oregon
00:14:33and drop to seven and then they'll just keep playing their schedule. I just don't know that
00:14:36it's a must win game. I think winning this game is a huge, uh, a huge, you know, chip on your,
00:14:42what is it? Notching your belt? Thank you very much. Huge notch in your belt. See, that's the guy that you
00:14:46denied the fist bump. It's going to be gigantic if you do win it, but I don't think losing it
00:14:50destroys Penn State at all. For the context. It only creates more. It only furthers the narrative
00:14:54that James Franklin can't win it, but that's the thing. So I'm going to split. That's the thing.
00:14:58I'm going to split the difference here because the producers wanted to have this conversation of,
00:15:02uh, does, you know, as a loser out the playoff as a winner. And I think both teams are in
00:15:06regardless. Yeah. Like I think both teams make it. The winner is like almost locked down. Yes.
00:15:10So the mathematical stakes may not be high, but as Connor's getting to the kind of emotional or
00:15:18more intangible stakes, almost none for Oregon, the entire weight of the world on Penn State here.
00:15:25Correct. There is a, a, a Mount Everest of narrative hanging over James Franklin's head
00:15:30going into this weekend. You brought everybody back essentially from last season. And that Notre
00:15:36Dame game was a real chance to prove people wrong. Like, Hey, Penn State can win a big game. James
00:15:41Franklin can get it done on a big stage. We botched it. Now you're going up against a very
00:15:46good Oregon team. They look way better than I thought they would to start this season, but
00:15:50they're still very inexperienced. They're still very young coming into your house in a year that
00:15:54is supposed to be your year with this atmosphere. There's going to be hundreds of recruits at this
00:15:59game. Saquon Barkley came hundreds. Yes. Hundreds. Saquon Barkley came too many.
00:16:03He came to this game. Hey, listen, it's part of the whiteout. It's, it's our biggest selling
00:16:09point on a national stage. Saquon Barkley decided to come to Penn State because he attended a white
00:16:13out and was like, wow, this is really something special. This is for the future. It's proving
00:16:17that Penn State can win a big game. We can take hold of the big 10 and we can control our own
00:16:22destiny and let's get out to a, to a good start. But again, Oregon, very, very good. I'm not as
00:16:26confident going into this game as I hoped I would be. Oh man. So we'll see. At least you're not
00:16:31building it up into something. I was about to say this. This is, this is huge. This is huge. Game of the
00:16:36Century potentially? Is this, T-Bob, T-Bob, you've played in a Game of the Century. What do you think?
00:16:40Where, where, where is this, where is this rank? Um, it's, it's. On the Game of the Century meter,
00:16:44that's the, the, the hundred to a zero, or zero to a hundred. This is the game of Penn State
00:16:50Century? Yes, perhaps. From a Penn State perspective, this is massive. Yes, I, I don't know that I can grant this
00:16:54a Game of the Century rank though, unfortunately. Hey guys, welcome back. Okay. All right. I like
00:17:01that. What is this? I don't know. I like it. It's a little funky, man. Here on a Wednesday.
00:17:06Welcome back guys to Wake Up Barstool on FS1. We do this every single week and, oh, I lied,
00:17:12guys. Yeah, tell them you lied. I lied, guys. I apologize. We're not doing griffins and outs
00:17:16here. You should have stayed on me there because I needed to apologize to the audience. But look,
00:17:19I did not mean to mislead, but we're not doing griffins and outs yet. Instead, look,
00:17:25baseball's hot right now. Every week we do our Ebo Titsy Tiny Baseball Segment. Today,
00:17:31make the font smaller, but today it's going to be an extra big Titsy Tiny Baseball Segment.
00:17:36Ebo, so right now, uh, the, the regular season's coming in, playoffs are heating up, and there
00:17:41are some incredible collapses. This, this music is, is. Did you request this music, Ebo?
00:17:48Uh, no, but. Are we doing the master's thing? I'm having, like, cognitive dissonance.
00:17:52Yeah, we can. Um, the Detroit Tigers right now are currently in the midst of a
00:17:56one and nine free fall, while the Cleveland Guardians appear to be, well, as hot as any
00:18:02team in baseball, Ebo, nine and one in their last ten. Um, what's going on with the, uh,
00:18:06with the playoff runs here? Lay out the storyline. Yeah, I mean, the Guardians are,
00:18:09this is one of the most miraculous comebacks maybe in the history of baseball. Um,
00:18:13September 12th, they were 100 to one to win their division, D-Bob. What?
00:18:17100 plus 10,000. Wait, that's like 12 days ago. Yes, 12 days ago, plus 10,000. They're
00:18:25now minus 185 to win the AL Central. They have completed one of the craziest comebacks. And
00:18:30also, I mean, the Tigers are, you can't have a great comeback without an insane collapse.
00:18:34It's very reminiscent of the, uh, the Phillies Mets about 15 years ago. Um, Guardians, just a,
00:18:40a miraculous run. Um, yeah, the last night that gets Google that knocks him out of his
00:18:46rotation. He has to go in short rest now. Um, potentially to save the Tigers of, of making
00:18:52the playoffs. A team that once had a 15 and a half game lead in the AL Central is now at
00:18:57risk of just not making it at all, which is truly insane. Um, imagine, I mean, the grind
00:19:04of a regular season, MLB season, and, and to go through all of that and to trip and face
00:19:10plant at the end like this, I mean, that's a wound so deep that it could turn gangrenous.
00:19:15That could, that could, that could break you. T-pop on September 4th, it was an 11 game
00:19:19lead on, on, on the guardians. 11 game lead. The guardians were 68 and 69. They're on 85
00:19:25and 72. So this, but they're not the only team that's currently dealing with a, uh, the
00:19:31Tigers. It is a bit of a collapse as last week, Cubs clinched the playoffs, champagne
00:19:36everywhere. Everybody's very excited. Looks like they got a home playoff game.
00:19:39They've guaranteed, you know, it's going to be awesome. And now they've lost five in
00:19:44a row. Padres rocketing up, winning four in a row of their own seven and three in their
00:19:49last 10. How worried should Cubs fans be here? Uh, I mean, not, not worried in certain terms
00:19:54of you're in the playoffs already. You got your, you're, you're, you're in, but the, the
00:19:58Padres are also nipping at the heels of the Dodgers right now who are not shown in this
00:20:02graphic. Um, I don't think any of those teams, Cubs, Padres, Dodgers should be particularly
00:20:07worried cause you already punched your ticket, but I mean, you'd like to see him play at
00:20:11Wrigley field. Yeah. You'd sure like to see a home game. I mean, I don't know if it's
00:20:15the most, um, warm. I mean, even last night it felt like an October baseball game here
00:20:20in Chicago. Um, but yeah, crazy comeback by the Mets last night, uh, down six, one at
00:20:25one point Francisco Alvarez, go ahead Homer in the eighth. Um, yeah, the, the, the playoff
00:20:30race kind of went from a nothing burger about two weeks ago to being very, very
00:20:34intense over the last week or so. Um, Mets fans, I think might be a little bit more
00:20:39comfortable after last night with that comeback, but y'all think Frank is happy?
00:20:42No, no, no. No, I do not. I do not. I did. I did. I did see a clip of him that got a
00:20:49little, uh, real with him and Jinx where Jinx asked him like, um, you know, do you know
00:20:55when you're happy? And Frank was just like, I don't know. I'm less mad. He did
00:21:02rank this Mets team as his least favorite Mets team to watch in his 41 years of being
00:21:06a fan. Yeah. Why? Because of the collapse. I mean, he did put, well, that's crazy
00:21:11because he put out his 10 game, uh, 10 year forecast about a week ago. I don't
00:21:14know if you saw it, but, uh, within the next six years, they will go Oh, Oh, and 162
00:21:18three times. Wow. Yeah. Yeah. Uh, so look at that right there, guys. Mets at Cubs
00:21:23tonight. Again, massive stakes at play in a lot of different ways. Evo, uh, we, we
00:21:29also got some baseball news yesterday. Replay system officially going to be
00:21:32installed next year. Give us the details on it. Yeah. I mean, uh, ABS
00:21:36challenge system, you get two, two challenges per game. If you win, you get
00:21:38to keep them. Uh, we saw it in the all-star game and it seemed to be pretty
00:21:42universally well-liked, I think by the casual audience for balls and strikes.
00:21:46Yeah. For balls and strikes. Um, yeah, I, I am personally a big fan. I think it
00:21:51keeps a little bit of the element of, uh, true human baseball. Like you get
00:21:56the aspect of the umpire still affects the game a little bit, which is maybe
00:21:59not the greatest thing ever, but it is baseball. It's good. It's baseball. It's
00:22:02baseball in my opinion. Yeah. And, um, yeah, I, I personally am a big fan of the
00:22:06challenge system. I think a lot of people see the challenge system or the
00:22:10automatic ball strike and they think it's going to affect catchers a lot. I
00:22:13think it actually doesn't really affect framing that much guys like Patrick
00:22:16Bailey, who is basically in major league baseball because he's the best framer in
00:22:19the history of baseball. I don't think he'll be too affected. I would like for
00:22:23it to affect framing. I think framing's got out of control. Okay. Framing is out
00:22:26of control where guys will, will, it used to be frame it where you catch it so
00:22:30they see it's a strike. Now it's take it to the middle. Yeah. And I, and I, and I
00:22:34think it looks ridiculous. I, I love that coastal Carolina catcher. That was just
00:22:37like taking everything to the middle. It was unbelievable. Catch it up here and
00:22:40going right to the middle. You know who, who he plays for now? Who's that? He's in the young
00:22:43core. The New York Orioles. Wow. The young core. Are they still the young core? No. Yeah. Young
00:22:47Core 2. It can't be the young core forever. Young Core 2.0. Infinity War. It's a sequel. Endgame.
00:22:51Um, KB, do you have any thoughts on Robits entering the game of baseball? What is going on? Did an umpire
00:22:57miss 27 calls the other day? Yep. So we have the technology to instantaneously detect whether it's a ball or a
00:23:06strike? Yep. Yes. But we still rely on 62 year old fathers, grandfathers with gout and cataracts to
00:23:14guess? Yeah. Okay. Yeah. I mean, it really does seem dumb when you laid out that way, but I actually
00:23:24love it. I like these gout, uh, ridden old men having to make these calls. It's because it's, it's,
00:23:31it's a, it's a piece of the game, is it not? Working the ump? Yeah. Understanding the strike zone on any
00:23:36given night? Playing around that? KB, you though, you've been a, a long advocate for saying that it
00:23:42should be much, much younger people who are umpires, right? Like you've been saying this for a long time.
00:23:47Laser focused children, maybe Korean. Yes, exactly. Maybe on track to be a micro surgeon or a sniper.
00:23:54Somebody with precision and exceptional eyesight, like a, like a 12 year old. Yeah. I mean,
00:24:00I don't see any flaws in that. I also, how. You don't see any flaws in bringing in 12 year old
00:24:05Korean boys to be the umpires. He lays out a good. Well, if they have great vision. Okay. Exactly.
00:24:10That's, that's the key. And laser focus and work ethic. But so when, with this whole ABS thing
00:24:16coming around, how much longer until we just, yeah, get rid of bumps eventually, how much longer
00:24:21are people going to realize, yeah, why do, why do we have these guys back there? I have to imagine
00:24:25they're the, the union, the umpire union will, will be blocking this for as long as possible. Yeah.
00:24:30In terms of making. I mean, two, two challenges per game. It's not too much. It's fine. Those
00:24:34are probably going to be gone by the end of the first inning. Exactly. Well, no, think back to
00:24:37the all-star game. There was one, I think in the second inning and then there was one in the eighth
00:24:40or ninth in like a big moment. Yeah. And when he has got to get out of the top of the ninth. Yeah.
00:24:44And I thought it worked great. I thought it worked great. I thought it was exciting. I thought
00:24:47the reviews were quick. It was cool. It had a little bit of that tennis, like, Oh, like buildup
00:24:51thing to it. Also to no surprise, the catchers in spring training were the best at 56% on their challenges.
00:24:57Pitchers, the worst at 41%. Oh, well, if I'm a leadoff hitter, I'm taking both of them.
00:25:02First pitch of the game. I'm challenging. Yeah. And that's the rule, right? It can only be a hitter,
00:25:07pitcher, catcher. It can't be a coach. Yeah. Gotcha. Oh, that's cool. All right. So that's
00:25:12going to be in next year. Did you want it to be the popcorn guy in left field? I didn't know if a
00:25:15coach could. Okay. My popcorn guy would be cool. My one request with this as a viewer of baseball on TV.
00:25:20Yes. Please take away the strike zone. Please take away the strike zone. Thank you. Because it's not the
00:25:25strike zone. Yes. Yes. It won't be the strike zone. And also, if you think the complaining is
00:25:29bad, just imagine fans complaining about their players not challenging. Why didn't you use your
00:25:34challenge? You're going to feel like the smartest guy in the room. You're not. Just get rid of it.
00:25:38Make the experience much more casual. Yes. And find out if it's a strike on the reveal. Yes. There
00:25:43needs to be a reveal. So yeah, that's my only ask. They're never getting rid of the strike zone. Yeah,
00:25:46I know. I know. They don't do it in college. And it's one of my favorite differences between
00:25:50college and MLB broadcast. I hate the K zone. I don't think I ever thought about that, but they don't do it in
00:25:55college. No. And we need, baseball is a game where you need gray area. You need to be able to complain.
00:26:02Oh, what was that blue? Come on, dude. And if we let these robots take all that uncertainty out of
00:26:07the game, what do we have left? So I'm sorry, KB. I'll have to deny your advocacy of robots making
00:26:15these calls. And I'll even deny your advocacy of 12-year-old Korean children making these calls.
00:26:22I prefer my old cataracts-riddled men. I have nothing appropriate to say.
00:26:29Are you saying robots ironically, or is that how you say the word?
00:26:33No, I think it's an old Futurama joke. Okay.
00:26:36That I started, I heard it in one episode years ago, and it just kind of moved in and never left.
00:26:43Never watched Futurama, but I'm aware of its existence, and I think I would like it.
00:26:47Are you imagining- Mike Judge. Isn't it Mike Judge? No, no, no, no.
00:26:50No, it's the Simpsons creator. Yeah, it's Matt Gronick. Matt Gronick.
00:26:53Are you imagining these robot umpires as like the iRobot robot is standing back there and making the calls?
00:26:59No, that would be- Or like the Boston Dynamic robots are back there making the call?
00:27:01No.
00:27:02Because that's what I think you're thinking in your head is going to be back there.
00:27:05No, no, see, this is the saddest part about the reality of the robot revolution is we don't even get something that tangible.
00:27:14It's not humanoid robots that we can recognize.
00:27:18It's just a cold, unfeeling screen that tells us balls or strikes.
00:27:23If there was an actual robot person back there, I could actually, I'm way more on board.
00:27:28Give him a little silly outfit.
00:27:29Oh, like the robots from Star Wars, P3CO?
00:27:32Yes.
00:27:33He'd do this, and I just don't know why.
00:27:35If he was back there, it would be awesome.
00:27:37C-3PO.
00:27:38Yeah.
00:27:38Or the little one, the trash can guy?
00:27:40Yeah.
00:27:41Yeah, that'd be R2.
00:27:42That'd be sick.
00:27:42They'd be like...
00:27:44R2-D2.
00:27:45I'm actually all on board for robot umpires in this R2-D2.
00:27:49We'll be good.
00:27:50All right, guys, there it is.
00:27:52The biggest teensy tiny baseball segment we've done on Wake Up Barstool today.
00:27:56Great job, Ivo.
00:27:56Yeah, no, you did a great job.
00:27:58Coming up next, it is time to get in to Conor's Griffins and Outs.
00:28:03Here we go.
00:28:03Coming up next on FS1.
00:28:04For real this time, guys, I promise.
00:28:06Ooh, dude, we feel a little jazzy this morning here on a Wednesday.
00:28:09Wake Up Barstool.
00:28:10We're here at Chicago.
00:28:11Barstool Sports HQ.
00:28:12It's beautiful, guys.
00:28:14Right now, it is time for our own wonderfully read Conor Griffin to tell you what's hot and
00:28:20what's not.
00:28:20It's a brand new edition of Griffins and Outs.
00:28:24And look at this, Conor, imaging.
00:28:26We got some animation.
00:28:27We're cooking with gas now.
00:28:28What do you think about that, Brandon?
00:28:29That was good, right?
00:28:30A little like Santino.
00:28:31A little bit, a little bit.
00:28:33All right, shout out to Francis, by the way.
00:28:34I think he was the one in graphics who made that.
00:28:36All right, Griffins and Outs.
00:28:37Yes.
00:28:38The stuff that we are leaving behind.
00:28:40Well, I guess I should start with the ins.
00:28:41The stuff that we are bringing with us from these past couple of days in sports.
00:28:44The stuff that we love.
00:28:45The stuff that we want to see more of.
00:28:46Along with the outs.
00:28:48The stuff that we want to leave behind.
00:28:49The stuff that we do not like very much.
00:28:51So my first in.
00:28:53Glizzy's.
00:28:54Glizzy's are in.
00:28:54Hot dogs could not be more in.
00:28:57People, I don't know about us.
00:28:58Our generation, for the most part, Evo, looks down on eating hot dogs now.
00:29:01It's become this new cool thing to dislike hot dogs.
00:29:03But they're in.
00:29:04They are so in.
00:29:05Well, how are they in if the younger generation looks down on them?
00:29:07Because this is why they're in.
00:29:08Oh, the Wiener Circle.
00:29:09The Wiener Circle.
00:29:10Right here in Chicago.
00:29:11We are very blessed to have the Wiener Circle right here in the Windy City.
00:29:14They put out a tweet over the weekend saying if Caleb Williams scores four touchdowns,
00:29:18throws for four touchdowns, against the Cowboys on Sunday,
00:29:21they will have a day this week, the Wiener Circle, where they will offer free hot dogs
00:29:25to all the Chicago Bears fans.
00:29:26Sure enough, Caleb delivered.
00:29:28And the Wiener Circle.
00:29:28They're very mean to you at the Wiener Circle.
00:29:30Oh, really?
00:29:31This is the place where they accost you if you go in and put in an order.
00:29:34But they were very nice yesterday.
00:29:35And nothing.
00:29:36There are very few things in sports that get me more fired up
00:29:39than teams winning free food for their fans.
00:29:41And that's what we got yesterday right here in Chicago.
00:29:44Is this the trust tree?
00:29:45I'm just talking to you two.
00:29:46Yeah, yeah.
00:29:47And no one, no one, no one listen.
00:29:50Don't worry about it.
00:29:50KB, KB, you can listen.
00:29:52I don't really like hot dogs that much.
00:29:53That's what I'm saying.
00:29:54That's terrible.
00:29:55Shut up.
00:29:56So you're affirming what he said.
00:29:58Correct.
00:29:59And this is what brings us back.
00:30:01It's just baloney.
00:30:02We can't die.
00:30:03Yeah.
00:30:03We can't die because this generation is going to replace hot dogs.
00:30:06How are you going to say I don't like hot dogs that much?
00:30:08Also, since I've moved to the back.
00:30:09Oh, you don't like America?
00:30:10I like Bratwurst.
00:30:11Bratwurst should be the standard.
00:30:13Oh, okay.
00:30:13Bratwurst should be the standard.
00:30:14I mean, yeah, those are good, too.
00:30:15And it's great, too, but it's a completely different thing.
00:30:17Kyle, hot dogs?
00:30:19I mean, I saw a video of people waiting like an hour for a hot dog, for a free hot dog.
00:30:23They're not expensive.
00:30:24But this is to be a part of the Wiener Circle zeitgeist.
00:30:28Yes.
00:30:28I hired a task rabbit.
00:30:30I paid him $35.
00:30:34The bear's mascot was there.
00:30:36Caleb Williams' dog was there.
00:30:37His actual dog, not his hot dog.
00:30:38Everything was great.
00:30:39Wait, was Caleb Williams there?
00:30:41I don't think so.
00:30:41But his dog was there?
00:30:42Yes.
00:30:42How did his dog get there?
00:30:43No idea.
00:30:44Side note, I do love a place that, like, their shtick is kind of being rude.
00:30:49It's hard to pull off, but when a place pulls it off, it's kind of fun to go to.
00:30:52Because we're on FS1 Airwaves, I will not say, if you're in Chicago, to ask for the chocolate shake if you're at the Wiener Circle.
00:30:58But if we weren't on the Airwaves, I might say something different.
00:31:01Oh, wow.
00:31:01That's a little joke for the 312 people in the room, if you ever go to Wiener Circle.
00:31:04Anyway, my next in, garage sales.
00:31:08Oh, I haven't been to a garage sale in a long time.
00:31:10Exactly.
00:31:11Shea Gilgis-Alexander, he was talking with Nardwar the other day, and SGA has some pretty good fashion.
00:31:16Maybe we can talk to Hannah about it later.
00:31:18He revealed to Nardwar that every preseason, he has a garage sale of all of his old clothes that he allows his teammates to come to and buy and purchase his old clothes.
00:31:28Only his teammates, though?
00:31:29I think so.
00:31:30This is a private garage sale?
00:31:30I believe so.
00:31:31That's what he said.
00:31:32That's not a garage sale.
00:31:33No, that's the antithesis of a garage sale a little bit.
00:31:36Garage sale is opening up your house and letting people come in and buy your stuff.
00:31:39Yeah.
00:31:39Brandon, he said garage sale, I'm going to believe him.
00:31:41And that's the main thing, though, is that what you said, T-Bob.
00:31:44It's a rich man's garage sale.
00:31:44Exactly.
00:31:45Are he selling his clothes to his teammates?
00:31:47Yeah, that's weird, too.
00:31:48We could get into that, but I just think, in general, we've lost the culture of garage sales in America.
00:31:53We don't do them right anymore.
00:31:54Buddy, buddy, I go to garage sales every Saturday.
00:31:57You also have a problem.
00:31:58Could you?
00:31:59Yeah, that's true.
00:31:59For those that don't know, Brandon is a man-teaking hoarder.
00:32:03Yeah.
00:32:03I like old stuff.
00:32:04I like cool stuff.
00:32:05Sorry.
00:32:06Soon.
00:32:06Will you ever do a garage sale, or would that rip the soul from your body?
00:32:09I will never sell it.
00:32:10Exactly.
00:32:11You're just going to come home one day, and it's just all going to be out there.
00:32:13No, no.
00:32:14My wife's going to be selling it.
00:32:14My wife has thrown the garage sale idea out there a couple times.
00:32:17I'm like, not in my house.
00:32:19Okay.
00:32:19Brandon will buy an even bigger house before he has to.
00:32:23I bought a second house.
00:32:24I'm sure I forgot you literally did before he has to get rid of a single starting lineup.
00:32:29Storage in my mom's house, very key when we get to find that house.
00:32:32All right.
00:32:33All right, next out.
00:32:34My next out, expensive camera equipment.
00:32:38Yes.
00:32:38We can do away with all these cameras.
00:32:39We don't need them.
00:32:40I'm sure the people at home would prefer not to see me in high def right now.
00:32:43But USF, they did something very cool.
00:32:46They're a social team.
00:32:47They're doing this thing where they're filming the games from the sidelines using all these obscure objects.
00:32:51They did a Nintendo 3DS a couple weeks ago.
00:32:54This was a ring doorbell.
00:32:55This is all ring doorbell footage.
00:32:57So now I'm very curious to see what they do next.
00:32:59I would love like a rear view camera from a truck or something along those lines.
00:33:04Does, uh, grainy footage, I like this.
00:33:07This is in.
00:33:09Why?
00:33:09Why?
00:33:10Because it's cool.
00:33:11Yeah.
00:33:11Grainy footage is not cool.
00:33:12This is not cool.
00:33:13Just take a camera out there.
00:33:15I like this.
00:33:16They're saying, look at us.
00:33:17We can do anything.
00:33:17It's a cool new twist.
00:33:18You got to go, yeah, we're getting too clear.
00:33:20This doesn't look good.
00:33:22It's retro.
00:33:23But that's why it looks good.
00:33:23If it doesn't even look retro, it just looks bad.
00:33:27Yeah.
00:33:27Okay, fine.
00:33:28What were the old, no, no, no, Connor, I'm completely with you.
00:33:30This is a win.
00:33:31Not every in and out is going to be a hit.
00:33:32It's 2-2.
00:33:33Kyle?
00:33:35I don't see, I don't think it's cool.
00:33:39Yeah, I don't think it's that cool, grainy footage.
00:33:41I'd like to at least see.
00:33:42I think we are getting too high quality.
00:33:44I don't need to see every divot of a man's face.
00:33:48But yeah, not grainy.
00:33:49All right, fine.
00:33:50What were the old flip, like the handheld flip cameras?
00:33:54Anybody know what I'm talking about?
00:33:54Yeah.
00:33:55I can't remember the name.
00:33:56It doesn't matter.
00:33:56Go ahead.
00:33:57That's what they should do next.
00:33:58Well, yeah, I thought that was.
00:33:59I think it's camera equipment out, grainy footage in.
00:34:02I don't know.
00:34:02I like it.
00:34:02This one, I think we could all realize.
00:34:03Oh, they were just called flip cameras.
00:34:05Do it with a flip camera.
00:34:06Yes.
00:34:07My next in my last in actually, unexpected bromances.
00:34:11We talked about this a little bit on Mostly Sports yesterday.
00:34:13For whatever reason, Bill Nye got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and Jalen Brown
00:34:18was there, and he's just giving a speech at Bill Nye's Walk of Fame induction.
00:34:24These guys became buddies.
00:34:25I believe last year, Jalen Brown put out a tweet where he was like, I just want to meet
00:34:29Bill Nye.
00:34:30How do I meet Bill Nye, the science guy?
00:34:32Bill, Bill, Bill.
00:34:33And then sure enough, Bill Nye, they linked up at a Celtics game one time.
00:34:37They're now good friends.
00:34:38And Jalen Brown is giving a speech.
00:34:40Is Joel McHale as well there?
00:34:42I think so.
00:34:43We always talk about guys shooting their shot with women.
00:34:46I say, shoot your shot.
00:34:47If you want to meet a bro, if you want to get a new friend, shoot your shot.
00:34:50This is funny, because I just moved into a home, and I've been doing a lot of Facebook
00:34:54marketplace shopping to decorate stuff.
00:34:57And the other day, I met a Greek guy, Marios.
00:35:00Yeah.
00:35:00And there was an instant chemistry.
00:35:03You feel it.
00:35:04We hit it off, and afterwards, I had the text written out on my phone.
00:35:08And I was saying, thank you, and I almost asked him, you know, do you want to grab a
00:35:12drink sometime?
00:35:13And I ultimately wussed out.
00:35:15Go for it.
00:35:16And I just sent him, you know, hey, it was really nice meeting you.
00:35:20Thank you for the rug.
00:35:21Connor, who did you tweet last night that you need to meet?
00:35:23Josh Peck.
00:35:25Hug me, brother.
00:35:26Drake and Josh.
00:35:26Drake and Josh.
00:35:27Wow.
00:35:27Yeah.
00:35:27I would love to meet him.
00:35:29So Josh, you're setting your visions high there.
00:35:31Hey, Oppenheimer.
00:35:32He was in Oppenheimer.
00:35:33He was great in Oppenheimer.
00:35:34Once you're in a Nolan movie, that's big.
00:35:35Yes.
00:35:36Also, don't demean Bill Nye.
00:35:38Somehow he got a walk.
00:35:39No, I meant, sorry.
00:35:40I did not say that in that sense.
00:35:42I said somehow Jalen Brown was there.
00:35:43Okay, yes.
00:35:44That is somehow.
00:35:45Bill Nye, well-deserving of a Walk of Fame star.
00:35:47I apologize.
00:35:48And then my last out, Harry Styles.
00:35:51Why?
00:35:51Wow.
00:35:52Harry Styles is out because he's now Sted Sarandos.
00:35:56I will only be referring to him as that.
00:35:58He ran the Berlin Marathon, and he did it under the alias of Sted Sarandos.
00:36:03Ran it in under three hours.
00:36:06I believe his time was 2.59.
00:36:07Can I get like some context?
00:36:09That is like a sub-seven minute pace.
00:36:11What?
00:36:12Yes.
00:36:13Unfathomable for someone of Harry's like athletic prowess.
00:36:17Yes.
00:36:18He was a tank.
00:36:18Sub-seven minutes for 26 miles.
00:36:20And that's why I think this is so impressive.
00:36:22I will no longer be referring to him as Harry Styles.
00:36:24He is Sted Sarandos.
00:36:26I can tell Brandon I brought up running long distances in the past two Griffins and outs.
00:36:30He's getting the cold sweats a little bit out of that.
00:36:32Well, not only that, but I'm just not really that into pop culture right now.
00:36:36Which one of those is Harry Styles?
00:36:38Oh, boy.
00:36:38Brandon.
00:36:39Stop it.
00:36:40Stop it.
00:36:41There's no way.
00:36:41He's on the right.
00:36:42Another Nolan alumni.
00:36:44Don't be later, I guess.
00:36:45Correct.
00:36:45He's on the right.
00:36:46He's on the right.
00:36:46Okay.
00:36:47Did people know it was him?
00:36:48I think there were a lot of people who were onto it during the race, but I don't know.
00:36:52It's kind of funny, though, because he's so fast, they couldn't catch him.
00:36:54Yeah.
00:36:55Seriously.
00:36:55How did he come up with Sted Sarandos?
00:36:58I have no idea, but...
00:36:59Is that one of those where we've rearranged the letters that says something?
00:37:03I'm going to look into it after the show, maybe in the break, but all I know is that
00:37:07he was going one direction.
00:37:08That was to the finish line.
00:37:09I can't believe he did that.
00:37:10Sub seven minutes for 26 miles?
00:37:12That was a co-data.
00:37:13That's mind-boggling.
00:37:15I think people like him need to subject themselves to long-form torture to feel something as intense
00:37:21as being the most sexually sought-out megastar in six continents.
00:37:26I think there's an extreme hedonism to marathon-running pipeline that's going on right now amongst
00:37:32millennials.
00:37:33It's guys who partied their ass off in their 20s, and now they are running for 50 miles
00:37:39straight, and trekking canyons, fasting for three days.
00:37:44Interesting.
00:37:45Yeah.
00:37:47It's just an incredible sociological insight from our guy, KB.
00:37:52Spot on.
00:37:53Connor, another great Griffins and Outs.
00:37:56Excellent work, Rosie.
00:37:58Hey there.
00:37:59Welcome back.
00:38:00This is Wake Up Barstool here on FS1, and it's time to talk about that old game that we
00:38:05love so much, college football.
00:38:07The old pigskin, eh, Brandon?
00:38:09Breaking news.
00:38:10John Mateer, Heisman favorite, goes down.
00:38:13How long are you going to do it?
00:38:14The music's still playing.
00:38:15Come on, pal.
00:38:17John Mateer hurt his thumb.
00:38:19He has to have surgery.
00:38:20He'll be out for a few weeks.
00:38:21He was the odds-on Heisman favorite as it stood.
00:38:24What this means is a couple of things.
00:38:26Oklahoma's got to survive this, and the Heisman race, Brandon, is now wide open.
00:38:33It is wide open.
00:38:34I've got three guys, and we'll shake it up a little bit.
00:38:36One guy who's done it so far statistically and should be in the lead, and he is.
00:38:40One guy who's going to have huge opportunities, and another guy that we need to be talking
00:38:44about more.
00:38:45The first guy is Fernando Mendoza.
00:38:4714 touchdowns, no interceptions so far for an Indiana team that destroyed Illinois the
00:38:51other night.
00:38:52When you're coming in, he could be a solid quarterback.
00:38:55He has been a huge upgrade for them over a good quarterback from last year.
00:38:58Rourke Mendoza has the numbers.
00:39:01He's going to be playing in bigger games this year.
00:39:02They've got Penn State coming up.
00:39:03They've got Oregon coming up.
00:39:04They have a tougher schedule this year.
00:39:06Indiana's receivers are great.
00:39:08Mendoza looks like he could be a long-haul Heisman candidate.
00:39:11Number two is a guy who statistically doesn't have it yet, but you better watch him because
00:39:15he's delivered in his one big game, and he's got a lot of big games left on the schedule.
00:39:19It's Gunnar Stockton of Georgia.
00:39:20Against Tennessee, he put Georgia on his back there in the third and fourth quarter and
00:39:25came back, scored, what did they win, 44-41, in a big game there.
00:39:29He hasn't put up numbers against the bad teams on the schedule because they don't really do
00:39:32that at Georgia, but he's got Alabama coming up this weekend.
00:39:34He's got Texas coming up later.
00:39:36He's got Ole Miss coming up later.
00:39:38He's got Auburn coming up later.
00:39:39He will be in big games every single week, and if he does what he did against Tennessee,
00:39:44this is a guy that you better watch out for, for winning the Heisman, even though it
00:39:47doesn't feel like it yet, and lastly, we have a guy, KB, a couple of weeks ago, gave
00:39:52us the stat.
00:39:53Every Heisman year ever that ended in a five was won by a running back.
00:39:58Tell him.
00:39:59So why not look at the guy who has separated himself as the best running back in college
00:40:03football so far this year, Ahmad Hardy of Missouri.
00:40:06This guy came from ULL, correct?
00:40:09Yep.
00:40:09No, no, sorry.
00:40:10No, no.
00:40:10ULM.
00:40:11ULM.
00:40:11UL Monroe.
00:40:12Thank you very much.
00:40:12Even smaller.
00:40:12Shout out Brian Vincent.
00:40:13Came from UL Monroe, played at a tiny high school in Mississippi.
00:40:16This is a guy who got there at, at Missouri, and he craves contact.
00:40:22He looks for contact.
00:40:23He's got over 600 rushing yards right now, and I believe he's, he's got something like
00:40:27435 yards after contact.
00:40:29He is somebody that is delivering.
00:40:32That offense is very good.
00:40:33Prabula can run the ball.
00:40:35He can throw it.
00:40:35You got Roberts there alongside Kevin Coleman, the receiver.
00:40:39This offense is going to be there all year.
00:40:41I think they're a playoff team, and Ahmad Hardy has been far and away the best running back
00:40:46in college football.
00:40:46Why not look at him for the high school?
00:40:48Yeah, not bad to start your SEC career with four straight 100-yard games.
00:40:54He has been, he's been absolutely fantastic.
00:40:57He punished South Carolina the other night.
00:40:58Yeah, so that is, KB, I think you'll appreciate this.
00:41:01I don't think you'll ever see this in a box score again.
00:41:04I'm going to use rough numbers here, but Mizzou outrushed South Carolina, I think like 285
00:41:10to negative nine.
00:41:12Just really, really unbelievable stuff.
00:41:15All right, guys, that was a great hour one.
00:41:17Coming up hour two, we got the four play guys stopping by to talk Ryder Cup.
00:41:21We got Rico Bosco talking Bruce Pearl.
00:41:23We got Hannah Montoya's football fast reports.
00:41:25We got a ton playing.
00:41:26Keep it locked on FS1.
00:41:28What's happening, guys?
00:41:29Welcome back to Wake Up Barstool here on FS1.
00:41:32And for all you golf heads out there, golf heads, it's a great week for you guys.
00:41:37Ryder Cup is underway.
00:41:39So who better to talk to this morning than the best football, best golf podcast in the
00:41:45entire world?
00:41:45Our guys here at Barstool, the four play boys.
00:41:47We got Frankie and Trent hanging out with us.
00:41:49Boys, what's going on?
00:41:50How we feeling this morning?
00:41:52No, thank you.
00:41:53Thank you for having us.
00:41:54It's an honor to be on Wake Up Barstool.
00:41:56We're very excited to be here.
00:41:57We're a golf podcast.
00:41:58You said we're kind of a football podcast.
00:42:00We talk a lot of sports, but I guess golf is the main one.
00:42:03And it's a big week because it's Ryder Cup week and we're very excited for it.
00:42:07So we were talking about the commercial break.
00:42:09Oh, my bad, Frank.
00:42:09Go ahead.
00:42:10No, I was going to say this is a home game.
00:42:12This is Long Island.
00:42:13We're New York based, even though we come from different parts of the country.
00:42:16This is where four play originated.
00:42:18We did one of our first videos at Bethpage Black.
00:42:20Trent famously shot a 144.
00:42:23144.
00:42:24So the fact that we have the Ryder Cup there, I got married at Bethpage Black.
00:42:28This is like, to me, this is it for me.
00:42:31I've been waiting for this since they announced it.
00:42:33I cannot believe that we're finally there.
00:42:35So this is a massive week.
00:42:37Hopefully the weather all kind of clears out and that we can have a nice weekend of some good golf.
00:42:43What has set the scene for us a little bit since y'all are boots on the ground?
00:42:46What are the vibes like, the crowds like?
00:42:48Is there a tension, an excitement?
00:42:51Help us understand it.
00:42:52Yeah, I mean, I think a lot of people are anticipating ridiculous crowds.
00:42:58I saw there was a couple of quotes yesterday saying that the wives of the European team shouldn't go to the Ryder Cup because they're going to get harassed.
00:43:05Or I think the word was abused was one of the words that one of the players was saying.
00:43:10So at the end of the day, I don't think it's going to be that crazy.
00:43:13I do think that it's going to be a very loud and, you know, cheering type of crowd.
00:43:19But, you know, I think people will be kind of respectful.
00:43:21I hope no one crosses the line.
00:43:23So I'm very excited to see how loud it does get, though.
00:43:25I mean, this is a New York, very built up.
00:43:29You know, we got our butts kicked in Rome.
00:43:32We really want this win.
00:43:34So I think this is going to be it's going to be one for the record books, I think, in terms of people showing up and how loud it's going to be.
00:43:41Yeah, I'm very curious to see how the crowds react and what they do for the better part of a year.
00:43:46I've been predicting that there's going to be a shove of some sort, whether a player shoving a fan, a fan shoving a player.
00:43:53I'm not rooting for that to happen.
00:43:55I don't want that to happen.
00:43:56I think that would be way over the line.
00:43:58But I think there is this thing.
00:44:00There's this story and there's this narrative around the New York crowd that we are placing expectations on that crowd.
00:44:06And there might be, you know, it's a small percentage like any other sport or fan base where there's a 0.05% chance that a guy crosses the line because he's like, we're a New York crowd.
00:44:16We got to get things going.
00:44:17But I think largely it's just going to be a great sporting event.
00:44:20And I think the crowds are going to be a huge part of it.
00:44:22And I think Bryson is, you know, he's been out there the last couple of days.
00:44:26I think he's going to be a huge factor in keeping the crowd on Team USA side because he's such a polarizing figure and he's so popular.
00:44:34Gentlemen, hi.
00:44:35Brandon Walker, Barstool Sports.
00:44:37I saw the Ryder Cup Gala was last night.
00:44:40And I saw a picture this morning of the European team and the U.S. team.
00:44:45And they were all in the picture together with their wives.
00:44:48It was beautiful.
00:44:48Everybody was smiling and had great breath and everything.
00:44:51But the European team all wore ties and had dress shoes on while the American team went tie-less and were wearing sneakers.
00:45:00Thoughts?
00:45:00Well, first of all, great sweatshirt, Brandon Walker.
00:45:05You look amazing.
00:45:06And what I would say to that is I'm happy that they're doing anything as a team.
00:45:11If they're all not wearing ties, that makes me happy.
00:45:14The problem at the last Ryder Cup that we got our butts kicked at was, you know, we sort of lost the narrative.
00:45:20And then it became like, oh, what is one guy doing and is it going against the rest of the group?
00:45:25As long as everyone is doing the same thing, which is not wearing ties and wearing sneakers, I'm okay with it.
00:45:31It seems like Keegan Bradley's got everybody on the same page.
00:45:33And at a Ryder Cup, when you've got pro golfers flying in for five days, it's a three-day event.
00:45:39It's all very quick.
00:45:40You've got to make sure everybody's on the same page.
00:45:42And I think Keegan Bradley thus far has done a very good job of that.
00:45:46And last night was evidence of that.
00:45:48As a group, if they're wearing the same thing, I'm totally on the same page as you, Trent.
00:45:51It's when one guy takes a risk and it doesn't hit, that's when it starts to get a little bit nerve-wracking.
00:45:56I famously, in our little world, I wore โ€“ I went to a hockey guy's wedding once and I thought I had to wear a cool outfit.
00:46:03And I wore a mock neck instead of a collar and a tie.
00:46:06I thought everyone was going to be wearing something cool.
00:46:07I was the only guy collarless at the whole entire wedding.
00:46:10It became the talking point of the wedding, something I didn't want to happen.
00:46:14I really went in there trying to just, you know, blend in.
00:46:17Totally missed it.
00:46:18Sometimes you get it wrong.
00:46:19It seems like the U.S. got this one right.
00:46:21They went as a group.
00:46:22They had a plan.
00:46:23They attacked it well.
00:46:24I'm fine with this.
00:46:25I always like to see when guys wear the same thing and they show unity because they're on the same team.
00:46:30Much like right now, Trent, you're wearing the beautiful Ryder Cup sweatshirt.
00:46:33And Frankie has haphazardly laid it to the side in the background so it's just sitting there.
00:46:38So you guys are not in unity at all.
00:46:41Frankie obviously thinks he's better than you, Trent, and it's not that big of a deal.
00:46:44But that's what I've noticed.
00:46:47That's not true.
00:46:47We've got all bases covered here.
00:46:49You know, I've got the Ryder Cup merch on, which is on sale in the tent.
00:46:52Go in there.
00:46:53There's a bunch of beautiful things in there.
00:46:55Frankie's got it there.
00:46:56But we also just recently announced our partnership with Adidas, and he's repping that as well.
00:47:00So we like to cover all the different places.
00:47:02Brandon Walker, I don't like when you try to โ€“
00:47:04You're not going to divide us.
00:47:05You're not going to divide us.
00:47:06Okay.
00:47:06Look at that.
00:47:07Look at that.
00:47:07The producers literally make him divide you guys.
00:47:09They are dialed.
00:47:12Boy, so right now the U.S. is favored.
00:47:16As I understand it, though, the European roster is thought to have a bit more depth.
00:47:21What's a read โ€“ what's your read on how this is going to play out?
00:47:25We've been stunned at this line, to be honest.
00:47:27I mean, you look at any of those matchups, I don't know that you can pick one winner over another.
00:47:32So U.S. at minus 150, I'm diehard.
00:47:35I'm rooting for the U.S. 100%.
00:47:36I see a ton of value in the European team at plus 170.
00:47:41There's not a single matchup that you can say definitively this one will win.
00:47:45And when you're talking that to me, that's just a pick-em.
00:47:48Yeah, I think it's as close to a pick-em as you can get.
00:47:50The only reason to me that the U.S.A. is favored is because it's at Bethpage Black and it's home turf.
00:47:56But, yeah, I mean, the European team is incredibly deep.
00:47:59It used to be in pass-rider cups a long time ago where it was like Team U.S.A. just has all the stars
00:48:05and they're going to dominate and they're going to be incredible.
00:48:08But now they've got Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Tommy Fleetwood.
00:48:11Both teams are stacked, so it just is what it is.
00:48:14Trent, are you getting a little fog up on your glasses there?
00:48:16Yeah, man, my glasses are fogging up.
00:48:18I don't know what's going on.
00:48:19In your apartment?
00:48:20Look at this.
00:48:21How humid is it in there?
00:48:22What's going on?
00:48:23I'm sweating.
00:48:24What's the sweatshirt?
00:48:25Look at this.
00:48:26As a guy with bad news myself, I can relate.
00:48:28I apologize.
00:48:29Boys, I'll start with you, Frankie, but give me the possible breakout American star,
00:48:33the surprise guy that if we win this thing on Sunday, that we come in on Monday
00:48:37being like, wow, this guy really picked us up and carried us,
00:48:40or I didn't expect him to be the breakout star of this.
00:48:43Who could be the surprise guy, Frankie?
00:48:45I really like Russell Henley this week, and I've been seeing him kind of paired up
00:48:49with Scotty Scheffler in a lot of practice rounds, and they did play together
00:48:53at that kind of warm-up, tune-up tournament a couple weeks ago.
00:48:57He's a name that I think is just such a boring name.
00:49:00He's not one of the stars, but he's going to play such solid golf, alternate shot.
00:49:04If you stick him with a guy like Scotty Scheffler, he's going to really get people going.
00:49:07He's my name that, at the end of this thing, we're going to say Russell Henley.
00:49:10He's here to stay.
00:49:12Trent, how's the fog coming?
00:49:14I'm taking these things off.
00:49:15That's what I'm doing.
00:49:16I'm taking my glasses off.
00:49:17Whoa, you're going glassless.
00:49:19Yeah.
00:49:19Now I can't see you guys, but at least there's no fog on my glasses.
00:49:23What was the question, Brandon Walker?
00:49:24The question was maybe a surprise American star that we could lean on this weekend that
00:49:29you don't go into it.
00:49:30We're not talking about him now, but we could talk about him on Monday.
00:49:34Well, I'm going to say, and this is going to go against your question a little bit.
00:49:38I'm just going to answer it in my own way.
00:49:40I think Bryson has a big opportunity here to really become, the last couple of years,
00:49:44he has positioned himself as, he basically wants to become the most popular golfer on planet
00:49:49Earth.
00:49:50He's obviously successful at the championship level with the US Opens, but he also started
00:49:54a YouTube page.
00:49:55He's all over TikTok.
00:49:56He's everywhere.
00:49:57He really is.
00:49:58There's a chance he's the most popular golfer on planet Earth.
00:50:01And I think if he performs at this Ryder Cup, there's already been talk about him between
00:50:06with Rory and Scotty.
00:50:08There's been some chirping going back and forth.
00:50:09But I think if he can rise to the occasion and really be the lightning bolt that Team USA
00:50:13needs, I think it's just another thing that it's like, wow, Bryson DeChambeau really
00:50:18is the biggest golf superstar on planet Earth.
00:50:21And again, I've been watching some of the videos and the crowds out there.
00:50:24They follow him off the first tee.
00:50:26They want to see him try to drive the green.
00:50:28He brings the energy that Team USA needs.
00:50:31And if he can perform, I think it's going to be a big rallying point for Team USA.
00:50:35So this is his Hulk, Andre the Giant moment.
00:50:38This is his chance to become America's hero, complete the redemption tale that is Bryson
00:50:43DeChambeau.
00:50:44What about on the other side of the docket, boys?
00:50:46Is there a European that when you lay your head down on the pillow at night and you close
00:50:51your eyelids, that will be dancing in your head?
00:50:54Is anybody you fear?
00:50:56Who do you fear the most in this European squad?
00:50:59I mean, I got my answer.
00:51:00It's Ludwig Oberg.
00:51:01He's a Adidas three stripes guy.
00:51:03And I'm not just saying that because I'm wearing the gear.
00:51:05This guy has been he's a robot is what people call him.
00:51:08And he has had a little bit of a I'd call it an off year.
00:51:12I think these type of events are going to are going to be the ones that get him going.
00:51:16His introduction to the big, you know, golf universe was the last Ryder Cup.
00:51:21He did amazing in Rome.
00:51:23And I think this is going to kind of get him going again.
00:51:25He's a very, very good match play type player.
00:51:28Alternate shot, the whole deal.
00:51:29Here's the thing about the European team.
00:51:30When you grow up in Europe playing golf, you play a lot of match play and the U.S. doesn't.
00:51:37It's a very singular, you know, personal achievement type sport.
00:51:42And like when we went to when we went to England, we went and played the birthplace of the open
00:51:47championship.
00:51:48This place, Presswick, their scorecards don't even have a place for you to put your own
00:51:51score.
00:51:52It's just match play.
00:51:53So these guys grew up playing this style where it's like, let's just win this hole.
00:51:57It doesn't matter what's going to happen.
00:51:58It doesn't matter what we shoot.
00:51:59You're never out of a hole.
00:52:00That's that team camaraderie.
00:52:01So that's the thing that the U.S. has to really overcome is the fact that these guys
00:52:05have match play ingrained in their systems and the U.S. really doesn't.
00:52:09It's always been they've been kind of pitted against each other.
00:52:12So that's something that we kind of have to battle against.
00:52:14And guys like Ludwig and guys like Rory and Shane Lowry, it's just in them.
00:52:19Tommy Fleetwood, they got a great squad over there.
00:52:21So it's going to be a tough battle, which, again, brings me back to that line.
00:52:24Can't believe it.
00:52:25Do you have any European you fear?
00:52:31Tommy Fleetwood, I've got my eye on.
00:52:32He kind of lulls you to sleep with his beautiful hair and his great smile.
00:52:36And he's real friendly.
00:52:37But then when he gets out there on the golf course, he is out there to rip your throat
00:52:41out.
00:52:41I'm pretty sure he got the final point in the in the Rome Ryder Cup.
00:52:45So he's just he's a really good golfer.
00:52:47But and he's just ready to to just win and rip the hearts out of Team USA because it's the
00:52:54Team Europe has no pressure on them.
00:52:56That's another thing that we got going into this thing is they won the last one.
00:52:59There's really no expectation.
00:53:00A Ryder Cup team winning on foreign soil is incredibly rare.
00:53:05So they don't have any pressure on them.
00:53:07The pressure is on Team USA.
00:53:08They are expected to win.
00:53:09People want them to win.
00:53:11And they're the betting favorites to win.
00:53:12And I think that actually puts them.
00:53:14I think that puts Team USA in a bad spot.
00:53:16I think Team Europe is just chilling and they're they're ready to go.
00:53:20Frankie, as a belligerent New Yorker yourself, you're expecting the belligerent New York
00:53:23crowd this weekend to to have an effect and to be kind of one of the stars of the show.
00:53:28So do you have anything planned to be as belligerent as possible?
00:53:32Will you be doing anything to get on TV?
00:53:34Will you do anything to embarrass our country or our company?
00:53:38Listen, the word belligerent is getting tossed around a lot right there.
00:53:41I think it's going to be a very respectful voice, boisterous, boisterous.
00:53:46Is that what I'm looking for?
00:53:49We're going to go with the word boisterous there.
00:53:51I think that's just kind of what we're going to go with.
00:53:52It's going to be a very proud and just like loud fan base.
00:53:56I saw Coach O was there yesterday getting the people going.
00:53:59Did you see that?
00:54:00Coach O was getting the people going.
00:54:02I don't know what he was doing there, but he had Keegan Bradley hooting and hollering.
00:54:06It was a very random thing for a Tuesday at the Ryder Cup, but I'm very happy it happened.
00:54:10Listen, it's going to be a great event.
00:54:12Friday is going to be out of control.
00:54:14You've got the president coming in.
00:54:15We're here and maybe there's Coach O right now.
00:54:18Look at him.
00:54:18He was really like this is unbelievable how random this is.
00:54:22Coach O was probably very disappointed that it wasn't the Ryder's he was expecting.
00:54:27He's the best interim coach of all time.
00:54:29You bring him in to just get pumped up, get the boys motivated a little bit.
00:54:33Look at him, dude.
00:54:35Boys, okay, on the way out here, I got two real quick.
00:54:38Okay, best bet and then just tell everybody what foreplay is going on all week long.
00:54:42So best bet for me, I'm going with the chalk.
00:54:48I'm going Scotty Scheffler to win his first match.
00:54:51I mean, you can see that right there in the DraftKings Sportsbook.
00:54:53Scotty Scheffler to win his first match.
00:54:55He's going to go out there.
00:54:56He's just the best player in the world.
00:54:58For me, whenever Scotty Scheffler is playing golf and I don't bet him, I feel like a dummy.
00:55:02So I'll be riding Scotty Scheffler for a pause, but I'll be riding Scotty Scheffler as hard as I can.
00:55:08At the end of the day, I'm always going with Scotty Scheffler.
00:55:10My best bet is I love a hole-in-one bet.
00:55:14Anybody to make a hole-in-one during the Ryder Cup is plus 400 on the DraftKings Sportsbook.
00:55:20You're just rooting for a hole-in-one.
00:55:21I do this all throughout the PGA Tour season.
00:55:23It's just really fun because then you're just rooting for somebody to make it in one.
00:55:26Now, I hope Team Europe doesn't do it.
00:55:28I hope it comes from an American.
00:55:29But somebody making a hole-in-one at the 2025 Ryder Cup is my number one favorite bet.
00:55:35And again, boys, what's going on in the pod this week?
00:55:37What are the plans?
00:55:38Where can everybody see and watch everything?
00:55:39Yeah, so we'll be at the golf course Friday through Sunday.
00:55:43So I hope to see everyone out there.
00:55:44We'll be at the merchandise tent.
00:55:45We are selling officially licensed Ryder Cup merchandise, which to us is out of control to be able to have our logo and the Barstool Sports logo next to the Ryder Cup and the Bethpage logo.
00:55:54It's something that we really don't take for granted.
00:55:57And we're very, very appreciative and feel very blessed to be able to do that.
00:56:01And then we're going to be at Borelli's, my family's Italian restaurant.
00:56:03We'll be there tonight doing a live show.
00:56:05So we got that.
00:56:06That's already sold out.
00:56:07So everyone that's coming to that, we can't wait to see you there.
00:56:09And we'll be there having drinks and enjoying the Ryder Cup after we get to the golf course.
00:56:14So this is a big one for me.
00:56:15I got friends and family.
00:56:16Everyone's like, this is my week.
00:56:18So I can't wait to kick it off.
00:56:20Hell yeah, man.
00:56:20Frankie, Trent, thank you so much for coming on this morning to help us kick off our coverage as well.
00:56:25Sounds like it'd be incredible.
00:56:26Full circle moment.
00:56:28Like you said, home game.
00:56:29Let's get it done.
00:56:31USA.
00:56:31Thank you, boys.
00:56:32Thank you, guys.
00:56:34There it is.
00:56:35Best football slash golf podcast in the entire world.
00:56:40Yeah.
00:56:41Four play.
00:56:41Shout out Coach O, dude.
00:56:43Definitely winning now.
00:56:44Shout out to Frankie oozing American patriotism in his head-to-toe German apparel.
00:56:52When we get back here on Wake Up Barstool, we got Hannah Montoya's football fashion report.
00:56:58You're not going to want to miss it.
00:57:00So don't.
00:57:00Thank you, Connor.
00:57:01Great coffee, by the way.
00:57:03Of course.
00:57:04Welcome back to Wake Up Barstool here on FS1.
00:57:06Guys, we do it every single week.
00:57:08It is my distinct pleasure.
00:57:09We are joined by one of the most talented people here at the office.
00:57:13That is our own Hannah Montoya.
00:57:15She has another football fashion report for you.
00:57:18Hannah, what's up, girl?
00:57:19How are we doing today?
00:57:19Let's go.
00:57:20I'm feeling great.
00:57:21How are you guys?
00:57:21Doing well.
00:57:22Doing very excited.
00:57:23Better now.
00:57:23Oh, I love that.
00:57:24I was just sitting out there looking at how beautiful all of you looked on the screen.
00:57:28Oh, thank you.
00:57:28That's so kind.
00:57:29Yeah, of course.
00:57:29So now we're going to talk about other people's physical appearances on the football fashion report.
00:57:36Off the bat, I'm going to talk about probably our most viral moment.
00:57:40I don't know if you guys have seen this clip.
00:57:42We're going to watch it one time through.
00:57:43Focus on the security guard.
00:57:45Yeah.
00:57:45Right here.
00:57:47Yeah.
00:57:49Is that Connor Griffin?
00:57:51It's close.
00:57:52It's Connor Griffin with the Will Compton look.
00:57:54Yeah.
00:57:55That was a neck snap.
00:57:56Neck snap.
00:57:58And well-deserved.
00:57:58This is Devante Smith's fiance.
00:58:00Yeah.
00:58:01She obviously looks incredible.
00:58:03She posted this on Instagram.
00:58:04I think this is, I mean, rule of thirds.
00:58:07She kept that moment in there.
00:58:08I would, too.
00:58:09I, dude, I feel so bad for the security guard.
00:58:12I haven't done the exact same thing.
00:58:14I think everybody gets it.
00:58:15A thousand.
00:58:16You think so?
00:58:16Yeah.
00:58:17Yeah.
00:58:17But he didn't.
00:58:18Yeah.
00:58:18You're not expecting this to go, like, you know, now he's going to have to hear it from
00:58:22whoever at home.
00:58:24By the way, at the end of the clip, he doubled back and did it again.
00:58:27I mean, she's stunning.
00:58:29Yeah.
00:58:29She's gorgeous.
00:58:30And you can see, like, a smile, too.
00:58:32Like, that brightened his day a lot.
00:58:34Devante Smith ended up commenting on it, A, security better watch out.
00:58:38With a crying laughing emoji, though, right?
00:58:39Yes.
00:58:40Yeah.
00:58:40So it was in good spirits.
00:58:42It was a positive moment.
00:58:43I'm sure Big Dom will handle it very amicably.
00:58:46Definitely make it about himself.
00:58:48Yes.
00:58:48Stop.
00:58:48There you go.
00:58:49You stop.
00:58:50Yeah.
00:58:50I think she looked great.
00:58:51And, you know, we talked about last time shorts and suits doesn't work out.
00:58:55We were wrong.
00:58:55True.
00:58:56That looked amazing.
00:58:57True.
00:58:57Good point.
00:58:58Good point.
00:58:58Ladies can do whatever they want.
00:58:59Yeah, but we would have never expected that last week.
00:59:02I didn't think I'd see a woman wearing shorts and a suit.
00:59:05And then it looked that sexy.
00:59:06It's insane.
00:59:07Yeah.
00:59:07No, that looked incredible.
00:59:09So I think that's one of, like, the peak moments of the week.
00:59:12And then next, we're going to move on to kind of the opposite.
00:59:15I don't know if you guys know this former NFL star.
00:59:19Is that Josh P?
00:59:20Yeah.
00:59:22Or, like, the thumb from Spy Kids.
00:59:24Yeah, I think he's got a good look going for him.
00:59:26Obviously, this is a look where you say, like,
00:59:28Oh, my God, did that guy lose a bet?
00:59:30And the answer is yes.
00:59:31That is why he looks like that.
00:59:33I don't know.
00:59:34How are we feeling about this?
00:59:36Do you guys like it?
00:59:37How does it?
00:59:38I'm actually, okay, complete honesty.
00:59:41Yeah.
00:59:41I'm a little, I think he looks kind of good.
00:59:43I think it works.
00:59:44I'm a little jealous.
00:59:45I think if I shaved my head, I would look like a human phallus.
00:59:49And I think he looks pretty good overall.
00:59:51It looks better with hair, but that looks fine.
00:59:53Yeah, I mean, it's unfortunate, because I feel like it might be genuinely hard to make
00:59:58Will Compton look really physically bad.
01:00:01Yeah.
01:00:01But it is funny.
01:00:03Post-veneers.
01:00:04Post-veneers.
01:00:04Post-veneers Compton, right?
01:00:06Oh, yeah.
01:00:06Because we've seen the...
01:00:07That's fair.
01:00:08I think it's a good new look, though, for the most part.
01:00:12I mean, it's more violently bald.
01:00:14Sometimes people are just bald, and it's, like, in lowercase.
01:00:16This is all caps.
01:00:17You really notice it.
01:00:18And then I wanted to point out now, Josh Allen, kind of go in the middle of everything else.
01:00:25This is just so normal.
01:00:28This is, like, if you have to...
01:00:28Well, how is this on the fashion report?
01:00:30He's just a dude wearing a shirt.
01:00:32That's the thing.
01:00:32Yeah.
01:00:33Is we've got our good look, our bad look, and now we're Goldilocksing it, Brandon.
01:00:37We're going right in the middle.
01:00:37Okay, this one's just right.
01:00:39I think this is just right.
01:00:40He looks just like a dude, you know?
01:00:42What's with the sunflowers on the hat?
01:00:43Also...
01:00:44Ooh, is that DIY?
01:00:45I'm not sure.
01:00:45Looks like a Myrtle Beach created.
01:00:47I believe that there were kids from the local children's hospital who put that hat together.
01:00:52I mean, he's the man.
01:00:53Yeah.
01:00:54Josh Allen's the sweetest man in the world.
01:00:56He's the best.
01:00:56He's got those big doe eyes.
01:00:58He's got...
01:00:59Who's his girlfriend that was just in Sinners?
01:01:01Wife.
01:01:01His wife.
01:01:02His wife.
01:01:03Yeah, sorry.
01:01:03He's up.
01:01:04He's up.
01:01:05Like, stock is up.
01:01:06I feel like...
01:01:06It's like the Adam Sandler sort of treatment.
01:01:08Like, he knows that he's the man, so he doesn't have to dress it up.
01:01:12And then I want to talk about Andy Reid.
01:01:16Fitted.
01:01:17Fitted.
01:01:18He just looks great.
01:01:19I like this outfit.
01:01:20See?
01:01:21Is this the first time I've ever seen Andy Reid in a suit?
01:01:23I think it is.
01:01:23I actually think it is.
01:01:25It was boring to me.
01:01:25That's why I had to point it out.
01:01:27He always has a headset on.
01:01:28Even in moments off the field.
01:01:31A headset and a hat.
01:01:32Hey.
01:01:32He only wore Chiefs gear or Hawaiian shirts.
01:01:34Yes.
01:01:35Team USA, take notes.
01:01:37Okay?
01:01:37That's how you should have showed up for the Ryder Cup picture.
01:01:40Right there.
01:01:41Red, white, and blue also.
01:01:42Yes.
01:01:43God bless.
01:01:43Why was he wearing a suit?
01:01:45I'm not sure.
01:01:46Everyone on the golf cart looks like they were.
01:01:48Maybe.
01:01:48He probably.
01:01:49I guess he just wears it every game.
01:01:50It can't be random.
01:01:51I would have never guessed, though.
01:01:52Yeah.
01:01:53I never imagined it.
01:01:54There's something about him that just looks so sweet to me.
01:01:57Like, even though I know that he's a great coach and he's very strict.
01:02:00You just think he's a sweet older man?
01:02:01I just, he looks like my grandpa.
01:02:03So I'm like, oh.
01:02:04He's Mormon, too, right?
01:02:06Is he?
01:02:06He probably has gout in his mouth.
01:02:07And to a man, and woman, every Mormon person I've ever met has been just some of the most
01:02:13pleasant people to be around.
01:02:15Kind way about them.
01:02:17Mm-hmm.
01:02:18Now, to another bad look, I want to report on this.
01:02:20Patrick Mahomes, you sent me this one.
01:02:23I did not like it.
01:02:24No.
01:02:25This, to me, looks like a hypothermia blanket, a little bit.
01:02:29Or sponsored by, like, Reynolds Wrap.
01:02:31Yeah, about to go in the microwave, maybe?
01:02:33Yeah.
01:02:34About to go in the microwave.
01:02:35A little Salisbury steak-looking ass.
01:02:36I think it looks good.
01:02:38It looks like RoboCop.
01:02:39Oh.
01:02:40That is a different, like, yeah?
01:02:42A lot of boathears.
01:02:42No, yeah, that.
01:02:43He looks terrible.
01:02:44I'll take it.
01:02:45I mean, I think it looks like wrapping paper.
01:02:47Is it the pattern that's a problem for you?
01:02:49It's the sheen.
01:02:49Okay, yeah.
01:02:50Hannah, you nailed it.
01:02:51It's wrapping paper.
01:02:53It really is.
01:02:53It is, that is, that's gift wrap.
01:02:55It looks like you can hear him walk down the hallway a little bit.
01:02:58I can't wait to see that at the Nebraska game this weekend.
01:03:02That being said.
01:03:04Look, God made Dylan that way.
01:03:06You need to back off.
01:03:07Sorry, sorry.
01:03:09And then I feel like there was a lot of bullying in this one, so we're going to end off on something
01:03:13that we can't bully because it's just super, super sweet.
01:03:17Christian McCaffrey.
01:03:18Yeah.
01:03:18A baby.
01:03:20Wow.
01:03:20Wow.
01:03:21Actually, if anybody at this company would bully a baby.
01:03:24Fit check.
01:03:25Oh, wow.
01:03:25How cute.
01:03:26How sweet.
01:03:26And, and, and, oh, wait, no, that's, okay, I was thinking Christian Juszczyk, but that's
01:03:29McCaffrey's wife.
01:03:30That's awesome.
01:03:30That's a, God, that's a tiny little baby that makes me have baby fever.
01:03:34Just a picture of a baby that you have baby fever?
01:03:37Oh, bro, yeah.
01:03:38I, I got fixed, so I'm done having babies, but.
01:03:41Wait, you still have a baby.
01:03:42No, he's like two now.
01:03:44That's two's a baby.
01:03:45No, I'm talking, I'm talking about, though, you know, when they're like laying on your chest
01:03:48and they can't really think or do anything.
01:03:50I'm with you, T-Bub.
01:03:51You've got baby fever?
01:03:52No, you're not.
01:03:52You can't.
01:03:54Baby fever.
01:03:55I held a baby for the first time this weekend.
01:03:56Wow.
01:03:57In his life.
01:03:58Oh, wait, how was that?
01:03:59Fantastic.
01:04:00Did you do it weirdly?
01:04:01Yes, I, I didn't know how to do it.
01:04:02I was like.
01:04:03Like, far out.
01:04:04Yeah, yeah.
01:04:05Not too intimate.
01:04:06Maybe up in front of your face.
01:04:08I just think when you put, like, super oversized accessories on a baby like this, it's the cutest
01:04:13thing ever.
01:04:13Connor, can a single man with no girlfriend get baby fever?
01:04:16Possibly.
01:04:17Guess we'll have to wait and see.
01:04:19Be careful, ladies, if you choose to spend your time with Connor Griffin after hours.
01:04:25He has an agenda.
01:04:27KB, anything on the fashion report here?
01:04:30Buy less, choose well, make it last.
01:04:32Fashion shouldn't be disposable.
01:04:34Sure.
01:04:37Love that.
01:04:38Hannah, thank you so much.
01:04:39Thanks so much for having me, you guys.
01:04:40It was excellent.
01:04:41Hannah Montoya, guys, the absolute best.
01:04:43Also, watch the Micropod if you haven't seen it.
01:04:46Those are always so funny.
01:04:48The Blutman Micropod was funny.
01:04:49He was amazing.
01:04:50They were all great.
01:04:51He really lives there, huh?
01:04:51Yeah, yeah.
01:04:52It was crazy.
01:04:53He's showed me all of his things.
01:04:55That's why he's been getting more and more red.
01:04:58The Cream team's been dumping their refuse back there and creating a toxic environment.
01:05:03And it's, yeah, it's starting to get to them a little bit.
01:05:05Yeah, they're radioactive.
01:05:06Hannah, you're the absolute best.
01:05:08All right, coming up next, guys, we have Rico Bosco back on Wake Up Barstool live here in studio.
01:05:15We're going to talk Bruce Pearls, Zion Williamson.
01:05:17A lot to get to.
01:05:19Oh, look at the train going by, dude.
01:05:21Hell, yeah.
01:05:22FS1, more Wake Up coming up.
01:05:24What's happening, y'all?
01:05:25Welcome back to Wake Up Barstool.
01:05:26FS1.
01:05:27Check it out, dude.
01:05:28We got our own Rico Bosco live here in studio.
01:05:32We got a bunch of basketball to get you.
01:05:33Some football bets.
01:05:34Big weekend coming up.
01:05:35Rico, what's up, brother?
01:05:36How are we doing?
01:05:36What's up?
01:05:37Good to be back.
01:05:37Good to be back.
01:05:38Huge week.
01:05:38I saw you guys talking about it before.
01:05:39Obviously, huge week of college football coming up.
01:05:41Yes.
01:05:42NFL into full swing.
01:05:43Just, you know, perfect time of year.
01:05:45Baseball playoffs.
01:05:45It's Ryder Cup.
01:05:46It's unbelievable.
01:05:47So, we're going to get into all of this.
01:05:49Bill, let's start college basketball.
01:05:50You're a resident college basketball expert.
01:05:53And some interesting news announced this week as Bruce Pearl of Auburn ends up retiring
01:05:59kind of out of nowhere.
01:06:02How long are we until the season?
01:06:0340s?
01:06:04Well, the practice just started, right?
01:06:05First day of practice, Monday.
01:06:06First day of practice, Monday.
01:06:07The first day of practice.
01:06:08Yes.
01:06:08Okay, wow.
01:06:08Right until the first day of practice.
01:06:09So, even more extreme than I had originally understood.
01:06:13Stumbag move.
01:06:13So, some are saying he did this because now he has kind of forced Auburn's hand.
01:06:18His son will be taking over.
01:06:20He's signed a five-year deal.
01:06:22Let's start here, Rico.
01:06:24Did you see this coming with Bruce Pearl?
01:06:27They're saying that there's whispers out there.
01:06:29Am I an insider in terms of, like, did I know the news was going to break?
01:06:31Absolutely not.
01:06:32I don't pretend to be in terms of that.
01:06:33But you could see the way his trajectory was going.
01:06:36Getting a little bit older.
01:06:37More into politics.
01:06:38More into advocating for different things he cares about.
01:06:41So, like, yeah, could you see he was on the back nine of his career?
01:06:44100%.
01:06:45Did I think he was going to retire on the day of first day of practice?
01:06:48Absolutely not.
01:06:49How about, so, okay, you allude to the fact that many think that Pearl's going to run
01:06:53for U.S. Senate.
01:06:54Of course, former Auburn football coach Tommy Tuberville vacating that seat and tried to
01:07:00become governor of Alabama.
01:07:01So, the Auburn to Senate pipeline may end up being established.
01:07:05But let's look at Pearl's son as, is this, and it's funny because Bruce has been someone
01:07:12who has bemoaned the rise of nepotism in America, but is this a legitimate choice for
01:07:20Auburn?
01:07:21Like, do you think that he deserves this opportunity?
01:07:23Yeah, I do want to first say Steve's a friend of mine and a friend of Barstool, so I'll always
01:07:28have his back.
01:07:29Yeah, okay.
01:07:29But, listen, he's a defensive expert is what's being said.
01:07:33He played, he was on the team at Tennessee, much like me when nationally ranked high school
01:07:38team.
01:07:38He was on the roster.
01:07:40But, you know, was in a Division I environment, knows what's going on.
01:07:43If you look at Auburn's defense the last five years, top 10 three times and top 30 all five
01:07:50pretty much.
01:07:50So, if you're saying, oh, I want to do defense with defense expert, Steve's the guy.
01:07:55And he's been around his dad.
01:07:56Like, you're learning, you know, as much as people want to say, oh, his dad, his dad,
01:07:59you're learning from a guy who's a pretty good coach.
01:08:01So, I don't knock that.
01:08:03And for the record, I'm a huge beneficiary of nepotism.
01:08:07I'm a huge nepo baby.
01:08:08So, I'm not coming.
01:08:09I think everybody, if they can set up their son, generally ends up doing that.
01:08:13Sorry, Brent.
01:08:14So, Stephen Pearl is your friend.
01:08:16Yes.
01:08:16You have a lot of friends in the coaching business.
01:08:18There's no secret about that.
01:08:19You've done well networking around the country.
01:08:21But your favorite coach coaches at Alabama.
01:08:25Stephen Pearl's your friend.
01:08:25And he coaches at Auburn.
01:08:27Right.
01:08:28Right.
01:08:29So, how long is he going to stay your friend is my question.
01:08:31What if Nate Oates says stop being friends with Stephen Pearl?
01:08:34Yeah, he'd probably pull a plug on that one.
01:08:37Okay.
01:08:37All right.
01:08:38But here's the thing.
01:08:39You talked about it with college football the other day.
01:08:41You know, how the Big 12 says, we're rooting for our other teams.
01:08:44The SEC, for years and years, if you look back to the last 25 Final Fours, I know Mississippi
01:08:50State made one.
01:08:51We're now going back 30 years, 95.
01:08:52Mississippi State snuck in.
01:08:54Arkansas obviously snuck in.
01:08:56South Carolina snuck in as a seven seed.
01:08:58Pretty much been LSU had a couple of runs in there.
01:09:01Until recently, it was pretty much Florida and Kentucky in terms of who's making the Final
01:09:05Four.
01:09:06If you look at what they're trying to build with this Iron Bowl of hoops being, you know,
01:09:10super elevated.
01:09:11Alabama and Auburn need each other.
01:09:14I don't want to say need.
01:09:15But it's better if they're really, really good.
01:09:18And that's what's putting the eyes on basketball when it matters.
01:09:22Like, what were the biggest games last year?
01:09:23SEC.
01:09:24In the 2000s, you knew that was not the case.
01:09:27In the 2010s, I don't think that was the case.
01:09:29The SEC is now becoming a basketball powerhouse.
01:09:33Does Auburn and Alabama want to beat the hell out of each other?
01:09:35Absolutely.
01:09:36Is it better if the two of them are national powers and it raises the stakes?
01:09:40100%.
01:09:40Just as long as the other one doesn't win the title.
01:09:42I think in football, with 12 games, the rivalries are really, you know, you can't really, there's
01:09:46not enough oxygen to support both of them in a state like that.
01:09:50Basketball is different.
01:09:51Basketball, they can be both top 10 teams.
01:09:53And he's right.
01:09:53I think the Alabama-Auburn rivalry has come a very long way.
01:09:56And it is awesome.
01:09:57I hope it continues under Steven Pearl.
01:09:59Yeah.
01:09:59Does it take a step back?
01:10:01No, I don't think so.
01:10:01Okay.
01:10:02Yeah.
01:10:02I was going to, like, does Auburn?
01:10:03Well, I mean, yes.
01:10:04Your Auburn expectations change.
01:10:05In the sense of, do you have a, are you losing a 35-year head coach to a guy coaching
01:10:12his first game this November?
01:10:13Yes.
01:10:13You take a step back in just in terms of the resume, so to speak.
01:10:18But, yeah.
01:10:18But Bruce is going to be behind the scenes, right?
01:10:19I think he's going to be involved.
01:10:21Yeah, for sure.
01:10:21But, no, I mean, just to that element.
01:10:22But, yeah, I think Steve's obviously, he's been around the program, defensive expert.
01:10:26Younger, like, you've seen a lot of these younger guys do pretty well.
01:10:29Todd Golden hung a banner.
01:10:31You know, Shire's doing pretty well at Duke.
01:10:33Like, these younger guys, better age, they might get more of what the college guys are
01:10:38going through.
01:10:38Yeah, I mean, true.
01:10:39And, I mean, with how all of college sports are changing so drastically every day, I do
01:10:44think, like, a younger, more malleable guy has proven to be a profitable path for others.
01:10:51You are losing another, like, we lose Gundy.
01:10:54We now lose Bruce Pearl.
01:10:55Like, we're starting to lose, like, the big personalities.
01:10:58Yeah.
01:10:58Yeah, that's what's tough.
01:10:59And we're getting to more of the Todd Golden robots that just kind of know what they're
01:11:03I mean, Pearl was, you know, I know people, like, listen, the Alabama people, like, you
01:11:06got to hate Auburn.
01:11:08You got to hate Pearl.
01:11:09Like, Pearl, growing up, Pearl was a rat.
01:11:12He was a character in college basketball.
01:11:13Always remember the shirt off with the Matt Summit thing.
01:11:16He brought Tennessee to that number one game against Memphis when it was Tennessee-Memphis,
01:11:21number one versus number two.
01:11:21Awesome.
01:11:22He obviously got out Auburn.
01:11:24You look at Barkley, Barkley's career.
01:11:26They made the tournament, what, once?
01:11:27Sure.
01:11:28When he was there?
01:11:28You don't know?
01:11:29I don't know.
01:11:29I'm pretty sure.
01:11:30So, now Auburn's two Final Fours.
01:11:32I'm shocked Brandon doesn't know.
01:11:33That was very, it was 81, 82, 83, so I was a little bit performing.
01:11:37In your 20s, I thought you would have known.
01:11:39But, Auburn's now two Final Fours.
01:11:42Like, that's what he's done.
01:11:43He's been around.
01:11:44He's one of the best.
01:11:45He's one of the best to never win one.
01:11:47He's in that, you know, like, college lifers.
01:11:49Like, that's what a lot of these guys do.
01:11:51And you're watching them all kind of go by the wayside.
01:11:53The legends of Wright and Kay and Roy, Self's on his way out.
01:11:59Izzo, I would imagine, on the back nine.
01:12:00Like, it's just growing up watching these guys who were bigger than life college basketball guys are now out.
01:12:05Well, not only that, but 10, 15 years ago when the SEC commissioner had to go to the SEC spring meetings
01:12:10and Destin and stare at his 12 or 14, whatever teams it was then,
01:12:14and said, hey, you guys need to start caring about basketball.
01:12:16We need to get serious about basketball.
01:12:18Bruce Pearl was a big part of that.
01:12:19Bruce Pearl getting to Auburn and then Oates getting to Alabama
01:12:22and all these coaches getting to where they're getting.
01:12:24And that's when Kentucky hired Cal.
01:12:25I think maybe they had already had him.
01:12:27But the SEC made a distinct effort to say we're going to be a basketball conference, too.
01:12:32It has worked.
01:12:33And they are a power in college basketball now.
01:12:36And Auburn and Bruce Pearl driving force behind that.
01:12:39It's kind of scary.
01:12:40Sorry.
01:12:40It's kind of scary when you think about it.
01:12:41Like, SEC, oh, we want to get into basketball.
01:12:43Okay.
01:12:44But, like, also, like, NIL played a massive factor, right?
01:12:48Because they have the most resource, so all of a sudden you can just pay.
01:12:52But Auburn went to the Final Four before NIL even kicked in.
01:12:55They went to the Final Four in 2019.
01:12:55Yes, no, no, I'm sorry.
01:12:57I'm not saying it's โ€“ I'm just saying I think it's โ€“
01:13:00Before NIL kicked in for everybody else.
01:13:02It dovetailed nicely, right, where they wanted to increase their commitment,
01:13:06and then all of a sudden you could increase the commitment financially and legally.
01:13:10Yeah.
01:13:11All right, Rico, what about this weekend?
01:13:14Like we said, massive slate of games.
01:13:16What are your favorite plays?
01:13:18What are we looking at?
01:13:20Yeah, I wanted to take them last week, and it looked like a blowout early,
01:13:24and then it kind of turned into a bit of a sweat.
01:13:26I'm looking at North Texas minus the 12.5 against South Alabama.
01:13:29I like their offense.
01:13:30I think they can outscore people.
01:13:32I like North Texas.
01:13:33I also like the โ€“
01:13:34Did they take down Army last week?
01:13:35Yeah, they did.
01:13:36They were up 21-0, and I'm pretty sure it got real dicey at the end.
01:13:39I don't think Army's good enough to say take down anymore.
01:13:41Well, defending American champs for whatever that's worth.
01:13:45Also, North Texas head coach, one of the secret or shadow candidates
01:13:49for that Oklahoma State job.
01:13:52Arkansas against โ€“
01:13:54Notre Dame.
01:13:55Well, ND, which stands for no defense, the way they've been playing.
01:13:58So we'll go over 64.5 there.
01:14:01And then โ€“
01:14:03I think Arkansas is live in that game.
01:14:05So do I as well.
01:14:07I also โ€“
01:14:08Obviously, the biggest one of the weekend is State Penn against Oregon.
01:14:14I think the Ducks are live here, plus the 3.5.
01:14:16I like them on the field.
01:14:17I like them outright.
01:14:18If you look at Franklin's record against top 10 teams,
01:14:21last year he's getting โ€“
01:14:23Oh, they made the Final Four, and they could have beat Notre Dame.
01:14:25He beat two teams that probably wouldn't have been in the playoff,
01:14:29way weaker on the list of where they are.
01:14:31SMU and Boise?
01:14:32Yes.
01:14:34Aller's not great against ranked opponents.
01:14:37I'm rolling the dice.
01:14:38Now, Brandon's counterpointing and saying Lanning hasn't won โ€“
01:14:40His record against top 10 teams isn't as good as you think it is.
01:14:43Last year was โ€“
01:14:44Again, last year โ€“
01:14:45You know, Iowa State last year at home.
01:14:46And Penn State.
01:14:48And he beat Penn State.
01:14:49And he beat โ€“
01:14:49I mean, Michigan was down, but still.
01:14:51Brutal, brutal environment.
01:14:52Also, he doesn't have nearly the amount of failed opportunities
01:14:56that Franklin does.
01:14:58Like, so he got there quicker.
01:14:59Yeah.
01:14:59Brutal, brutal environment.
01:15:01But I do like that Moore obviously has some experience.
01:15:04The defense looks great.
01:15:05And they're doing that thing at Oregon where a guy catches a pass
01:15:07out in the open field, looks like he hits turbo.
01:15:09They just got the fastest guys on the field,
01:15:11which is what you grew up watching on Oregon.
01:15:13I love it.
01:15:13So I'm rolling the dice with Oregon.
01:15:15There's a lot of teams this weekend,
01:15:17ranked teams that have dangerous spots they're going to.
01:15:19Indiana's going to a dangerous spot.
01:15:21Ohio State's going to a dangerous spot.
01:15:23They're only the second team โ€“ second number one team ever
01:15:25that has a single-digit dog versus an unranked team.
01:15:27I think USC โ€“ or Ohio State versus USC.
01:15:29Single-digit favorite?
01:15:31Single-digit favorite.
01:15:32Okay, against an unranked team.
01:15:33Against an unranked team.
01:15:33Okay, yeah.
01:15:34And there's a team on Friday night,
01:15:36a game that is sneaking up on everybody,
01:15:37going under the radar.
01:15:38Florida State's got to go to Virginia.
01:15:40And you hear Virginia, you're like,
01:15:42oh, this is the Zima crowd, as they were called by Colin Cowherd
01:15:47back in the day.
01:15:48The Zima crowd.
01:15:48They can score the football.
01:15:51Unbelievable offense.
01:15:51Chandler Morris has been awesome there this year.
01:15:54That is a trap-trap spot for Florida State.
01:15:56Only seven-point favorites on the road at Virginia.
01:15:58Virginia should be undefeated right now.
01:16:00They lost a fluke game at NC State.
01:16:02Quarterback threw a terrible interception in the end zone
01:16:03to end the game.
01:16:05But I think Virginia's very good.
01:16:06I agree with you.
01:16:07I think they're absolutely at play.
01:16:09Rico, do you have any read on LSU Ole Miss?
01:16:12I was talking to my friend Rivers yesterday,
01:16:13and I was trying to figure this out.
01:16:15But, like, if you look at multiple different books right now,
01:16:18it's one of the rare instances where one book will have LSU favored,
01:16:22one book will have Ole Miss favored.
01:16:24How do you kind of explain that,
01:16:25and do you have a strong opinion on this game?
01:16:27I know that Mitzi can't lose this one.
01:16:30That's right.
01:16:31That is absolutely correct.
01:16:32It's a win-win spot there, which you always like.
01:16:35And I bet he'll find his way into the crowd some way, somehow.
01:16:39I bet somehow his schedule will open up.
01:16:40Just handsy.
01:16:41Oh, he's going.
01:16:42He's going to Oxford.
01:16:43Oh, really?
01:16:44Shocking.
01:16:45So, if you see Mintzi this weekend, go holler at him.
01:16:48No, I don't have a phenomenal read on it.
01:16:51It's just interesting.
01:16:52You know, Brian Kelly just always seems to be in the thick of it,
01:16:55so I don't know which way it's going to go.
01:16:57But I'm looking forward to either his press conference of him celebrating
01:17:01or him again being, like, ready to rip his hair out.
01:17:03So, like, either way, it's kind of a win-win for me,
01:17:05just getting to watch Brian Kelly.
01:17:07I'm not saying this because you're an LSU guy.
01:17:08I think Ole Miss wins this one.
01:17:10Lane Kiffin at home.
01:17:11I think they're a little bit better than people thought they were going to be.
01:17:14Their defense hasn't taken โ€“ they killed Tulane.
01:17:16And Tulane โ€“ Tulane's not a big-time SEC team.
01:17:20They are a solid team.
01:17:21Absolutely.
01:17:21They just absolutely killed them.
01:17:22And this Trinidad Jambliss, man, I know LSU's defense is good.
01:17:26Makes me so mad.
01:17:26They found him out of nowhere, out of Ferris State, and he can run the ball.
01:17:30He can throw the ball.
01:17:31I don't want to say they got lucky because they went and got him,
01:17:33but Austin Simmons was supposed to be this all-world quarterback, and he wasn't.
01:17:36He gets hurt.
01:17:36Now you really have an all-world quarterback.
01:17:39I think Ole Miss wins this one.
01:17:40Can you help me out with the beef?
01:17:42I saw Lane Kiffin's press conference.
01:17:44He said, yeah, we're playing during the day.
01:17:47And then when we play LSU at night, who โ€“ is the โ€“ the networks are picking?
01:17:51Yeah.
01:17:51The networks are picking.
01:17:52So it's not the school doesn't get to pick, and that's where the frustration is.
01:17:56He's mad at the network.
01:17:56Why wouldn't the network throw him?
01:17:58This slate's loaded.
01:18:00You got โ€“
01:18:00That makes sense to me, right?
01:18:01You got Georgia.
01:18:02You got Alabama, Georgia.
01:18:03That's the problem.
01:18:03Yeah, you got โ€“
01:18:04Well, then why not manipulate that?
01:18:06Like last week, that would have been โ€“
01:18:08It could have.
01:18:09And I think they stuck South Carolina, Kentucky at night, which is an odd one.
01:18:13But I don't think the SEC and its partners revolve around Lane Kiffin's wants and needs.
01:18:19I don't think they sit there and say, well, Lane wants to be at night.
01:18:21We can't do that.
01:18:22Oh, you're right.
01:18:23But is 2.30 still the โ€“
01:18:242.30's a great spot.
01:18:25Well, I was going to say, but like growing up, it was the premier SEC spot.
01:18:29Do we still consider it to be the premier spot, or is that not prime time?
01:18:32I think coaches especially like playing at night because their fans are the most riled up.
01:18:39Their fans are the most ready to go.
01:18:41I don't think it ultimately matters.
01:18:42I think that stadium will be crazy at 2.30 on Saturday.
01:18:45But no, I don't think 2.30 is the marquee spot it was five years ago.
01:18:49LSU 8-2 in their last 10 against Ole Miss, but Ole Miss โ€“
01:18:53Also, it's still hot in Mississippi, by the way.
01:18:55Ole Miss has won the last two in Oxford.
01:18:57Yeah, still hot in all of the South.
01:18:59Yeah, still hot down there in Oxford.
01:19:01So it'll probably be 90, 92, 94.
01:19:04I don't know the weather this weekend.
01:19:05When does it start dipping?
01:19:07Probably mid-October.
01:19:09I'm going to Georgia this weekend.
01:19:11I think there's a cold front coming in.
01:19:12So you might want to check on that.
01:19:13Oh, that might be nice then.
01:19:14Might want to check.
01:19:15It might actually be nice.
01:19:15Really quick, Mississippi State live this weekend?
01:19:17Yes or no?
01:19:20Tennessee?
01:19:21Starkville?
01:19:23No.
01:19:24Maybe.
01:19:24I don't know.
01:19:26I'd love it to be the case, but it feels like one of those games where we go 4-0,
01:19:30we get excited, and we're down 28-6 at the half.
01:19:33That's what it feels like.
01:19:34But, hey, hey, I'm going to be there ringing my cowbell in Chicago at my house.
01:19:39How have you guys done against Heupel?
01:19:41We've only played him once, and that was last year when we went 2-10.
01:19:44We were terrible.
01:19:45Got it.
01:19:45So I don't really even judge that.
01:19:48Rico Bosco.
01:19:49Rico, thank you so much, brother, for coming in and giving us some insight.
01:19:51Last night's Barstow after Darkstream was awesome.
01:19:55Yeah, it's not a great idea when you show a weakness at this company, but we'll see.
01:19:59The milk thing?
01:19:59Yeah, the milk thing.
01:20:00Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:20:01Pickle will be out later today or tomorrow?
01:20:03No, recording Thursday.
01:20:04Oh, okay.
01:20:05The milk thing is very funny, guys.
01:20:07You should probably go check it out.
01:20:08Rico Bosco, thank you so much.
01:20:10All right, when we get back, guys, let's go ahead and wrap up today's show.
01:20:13I still want to dive in to more of these games.
01:20:15We're going to be looking forward to coming up this weekend.
01:20:18Plenty more.
01:20:19I guess it's not entirely true.
01:20:21One segment more.
01:20:22Here on Wake Up Barstool FS1.
01:20:25What's going on, y'all?
01:20:25Welcome back to Wake Up Barstool.
01:20:27I'm just bemoaning the fact that I've never been to a bar mitzvah before.
01:20:31I know we were talking about 12-year-old Korean boys earlier.
01:20:34If anybody knows any 12-year-old Jewish boys, I would like to go to one bar mitzvah before I die.
01:20:41I'll accept a bat mitzvah as well, so I'm definitely open to that.
01:20:45You ever been to a quinceaรฑera?
01:20:46I've never been to a quinceaรฑera either.
01:20:48Still be fun, but I think the bar mitzvah is a bit more...
01:20:54I guess I've just thought about wanting to go to a bar mitzvah more.
01:20:57Fair.
01:20:57To be fair.
01:20:59Brandon, what's wrong?
01:21:01Do you know a...
01:21:02We have maybe the most epic...
01:21:05My hair looks terrible.
01:21:06We have the most epic college football slate in the world.
01:21:08Yes.
01:21:09It's going to be awesome.
01:21:09Yeah.
01:21:10Which is why we're going to talk about skinny Zion Williamson.
01:21:12Yes.
01:21:13Yes.
01:21:13Look, I just got to touch on this real quick.
01:21:15I'm a Pelicans fan.
01:21:16I know you want to talk about it as well.
01:21:17Go ahead and just play what Zion looks like now.
01:21:21I don't know that I've ever had such a toxic relationship with a professional athlete that I've loved.
01:21:27I know your feelings.
01:21:28Every time I'm out, they drag me back in.
01:21:32And look how skinny he looks, Brandon.
01:21:34I am so back in on Zion Williamson, dude.
01:21:37MVP season loaded.
01:21:38T-Bob.
01:21:39Let's go!
01:21:40I saw this yesterday, unprompted.
01:21:42It just passed on my Twitter account.
01:21:44And I said, wait a second.
01:21:45In the face, that looks like Zion.
01:21:47And I zoomed in on it.
01:21:50This is scary.
01:21:51Yeah.
01:21:51This is fun.
01:21:52This is scary.
01:21:53We need skinny Zion.
01:21:54We need him dunking on people.
01:21:55We need him playing more than 24 minutes every third game.
01:21:58Yes.
01:21:58We need him active.
01:22:00The Pelicans have disappeared as a franchise over the last three or four years because of his unavailability.
01:22:06And if he is going to step up and be skinny and be a skinny star, I'm all the way back in.
01:22:11All the way back in.
01:22:12I was worried.
01:22:13I think skinny Zion's an amazing development.
01:22:14I was really worried when I first saw it because it looked like, I was like, he doesn't look very healthy.
01:22:19It's skinny, but I was like, oh, this looks off.
01:22:20But now I've re-evaluated the picture.
01:22:23I've noticed that it was not Photoshop, which was my original thought.
01:22:26And I am all in with you guys.
01:22:27I think this is going to be awesome.
01:22:28Which feature did you zoom in on first to take in?
01:22:31Like, which was the most breathtaking feature?
01:22:33Because you were zooming in on his bicep.
01:22:35I was going face.
01:22:36Face?
01:22:36It's his head.
01:22:37His head is smaller.
01:22:38Yeah.
01:22:38His head is smaller.
01:22:39What should I have been zooming in on?
01:22:40I'm just curious.
01:22:41Yeah.
01:22:41See, like, what stands out to you?
01:22:44KB?
01:22:45I just think that Zion Williamson is one of the most athletically awe-inspiring men of the
01:22:52millennium.
01:22:52And his legacy has been reduced to a gluttonous beignet blimp.
01:22:56And I don't think that's fair, despite his recent struggles.
01:22:59I just, I guess I'm coming from the perspective of every year I do this, where I get my hopes
01:23:08up, only to be dashed upon the rocks, only to be told he's skating out, everything's
01:23:13changed, blah, blah, blah.
01:23:14And, and, and, but then he comes back and he, and he does a 360 windmill dunk and my
01:23:20heart opens again.
01:23:21And now he's, oh, Zyombik and he looks great.
01:23:24And, and I'm, I'm, I'm in all over again.
01:23:27Let's go, pals.
01:23:27Flock up, baby.
01:23:28It's our time this year.
01:23:30Um, all right.
01:23:31It's our time to talk college football because it's, it's just an unbelievable slate.
01:23:34I could start in a million different directions, but I'll start here.
01:23:37Good company, man.
01:23:39USC, a surprising USC team that I think a lot of us not paid attention to.
01:23:44It will look pretty damn good thus far.
01:23:46They're going to be heading to Champaign to take on Illinois.
01:23:48It's going to be big noon kickoff.
01:23:49College football show will be there.
01:23:51Brandon, what'd you read on this game?
01:23:53Well, I think USC, I caught on the other night against Michigan state after everything else
01:23:58had kind of quieted down and I was watching them efficient, kind of easy offense.
01:24:04The quarterback is, I didn't mention my other for Heisman, but he could be in the Heisman
01:24:07conversation.
01:24:08And this is the, the tone of this week.
01:24:11Like you have Penn state, Oregon in the big 10, you have Georgia, Alabama in the SEC.
01:24:15But I think if you look further deeper into these conferences, like this game, you have
01:24:18matchups all up and down these leagues.
01:24:20I think this is a big one.
01:24:21How does Illinois bounce back?
01:24:23Are you the team we saw against Indiana or are you the team?
01:24:26Everybody had ranked ninth in the country last week.
01:24:28Do you have some fight to you?
01:24:30And USC is the same way for, we have kind of discounted Lincoln Riley.
01:24:34We're in year four now.
01:24:35It hasn't really happened, but maybe this is the quarterback and this is the team we've
01:24:38been waiting for.
01:24:40Somebody's going to tell us a lot about themselves in Champaign on Saturday.
01:24:43Yeah.
01:24:43The J.
01:24:44My office stats, as he's alluding to are out of this world right now, still the highest rated
01:24:48passer in the entire country.
01:24:52Well, we, yeah, we go, we go learn.
01:24:54We go learn this Saturday.
01:24:55I mean, they profile like a very classic Lincoln Riley.
01:24:57They do.
01:24:59Terrible defense.
01:25:00Yeah.
01:25:00Again, we have to remember this on Lincoln Riley.
01:25:04The most damning part of his entire career is he has never had a team finish better than
01:25:09the previous year.
01:25:11Whether it was at Oklahoma, USC, he has always gotten worse.
01:25:14It looks like this could finally break that for Riley.
01:25:17This game Saturday would be a massive step towards that.
01:25:20We haven't talked to, we haven't talked to Georgia, Georgia, Auburn.
01:25:22We haven't talked to Georgia, Alabama yet.
01:25:24It's going down in Athens.
01:25:27Alabama's fascinating to me.
01:25:29We wrote them off after week one and all they've done since then is look pretty damn good.
01:25:34Ty Simpson continuing to play better and better.
01:25:36Obviously this is a different level of challenge, but I think we're going to get some insight
01:25:41into, was this more about FSU being really good than Alabama being really bad?
01:25:46We're going to find out this Saturday.
01:25:47So Alabama's looked really good against air, against nobody.
01:25:51Yeah, I mean Wisconsin's lost to Maryland.
01:25:53Wisconsin team is about to fire their coach against two also-rans.
01:25:56They've looked really good.
01:25:57The one time everybody watched them this year, they went on the road to Tallahassee and looked
01:26:01like they didn't know what they were doing.
01:26:03Their offense couldn't get it done.
01:26:05They couldn't block them.
01:26:06And now they're going on the road again to Athens.
01:26:08And if you couldn't do it at Tallahassee, why am I going to believe you can do it in Athens?
01:26:12This also starts a stretch.
01:26:14Six of their next seven games are against ranked teams, as of right now.
01:26:18You know, they could change.
01:26:19They could fall out of the rankings.
01:26:20But this is a very, very brutal road that they're about to start on.
01:26:24Do they get it started with a win?
01:26:26Also, there are already people saying if they lose this game, are they out of the picture
01:26:31for the college football playoff?
01:26:32There's a lot riding on this game.
01:26:34You're never out until you get to the third loss.
01:26:36But considering the stretch ahead, you want to start that stretch with a win.
01:26:39There are some SEC teams that are going to be at 9-3 with unbelievable schedules.
01:26:43Like, I mean, Florida, I'm not saying, has a chance to get in.
01:26:46But like, you're going to be playing 9-10 ranked teams.
01:26:48I think there's a 9-3 team that gets in the playoff this year.
01:26:50It's why I get so mad about these schedule talks when they say the SEC only has eight
01:26:54conference games.
01:26:54Mississippi State's 4-0 right now.
01:26:56We have eight games left.
01:26:57Five of them are against top 15 teams.
01:26:59It is absolutely ridiculous.
01:27:01I want to shout out one more game in the SEC, which I don't know what graphics are coming.
01:27:05So maybe I'm out of turn here.
01:27:06But Arkansas is fighting for its life, fighting for its coach's life.
01:27:10And Notre Dame can't defend.
01:27:12They can't play defense.
01:27:13Arkansas has one of the best quarterbacks in the country.
01:27:15They can score points.
01:27:16They've just been kicking themselves.
01:27:18They've been shooting themselves in the foot.
01:27:20They had Ole Miss beat.
01:27:21They fumbled inside the red zone.
01:27:22They had Memphis beat.
01:27:23They fumbled inside the 10-yard line.
01:27:25They could be 4-0 right now in rank, but they're not.
01:27:28And Notre Dame's going to walk in there thinking it's going to be a sleepy 11 a.m.
01:27:31kickoff.
01:27:31Arkansas might have something for them.
01:27:33I just feel that Arkansas is probably so down from how they blew those games that I find it hard to believe they're going to catch them.
01:27:43But, you know, you never know.
01:27:44Notre Dame coming in wakes you up.
01:27:46That's fair.
01:27:46That's fair.
01:27:47Massive opportunity when the Golden Dome's come to town.
01:27:50As far as the Georgia-Alabama game goes a bit here, I think, look, and Alabama's been the Georgia kryptonite.
01:27:57They beat Georgia 9 in the last 10 times they played, but I do feel like Georgia using Tennessee and that incredible just gutsy win, I feel like that's a springboard here, and I actually feel like they flex on Bama a little bit Saturday.
01:28:13I think Nick Saban was the kryptonite.
01:28:14I know they won last year, but there was a huge comeback, and they won at home.
01:28:18And look at that, guys.
01:28:19There's an unreal weekend slate coming up.
01:28:22We've got Ryder Cup going down right there at 11 a.m.
01:28:25You've got USC, Illinois later in the afternoon, LSU, Ole Miss, Alabama, Georgia, Oregon, Penn State.
01:28:32Look at the Sunday slate.
01:28:33MLB closing day.
01:28:34Are you kidding me?
01:28:36We truly live in blessed times.
01:28:39Thank you, everybody, for joining us today.
