00:00All right, this is Nate here. We are backstage at Riff Fest, and I have another band here we're interviewing. It's Miss May I.
00:06What's up? How are you guys doing?
00:07Good.
00:07They actually rocked the festival stage just, I mean, a couple hours ago? It wasn't too long ago.
00:11But you guys did amazing out there, promoting your new music. You guys are from Ohio, right?
00:17Yes.
00:17Yes? Okay. Where at Ohio?
00:20So we're technically from a small town called Troy, Ohio.
00:23Troy?
00:23That's where the band originated, but we always say that we're from Dayton. It's the biggest little city around us.
00:27I know how that is.
00:28But now, in the later years, we're all spread out.
00:30Okay. Okay. I want to know a little bit about your guys' – because you've been at it for a while now.
00:36So, like, your origins.
00:37I don't know if you want to say how you guys all came together, how you had an idea to start a band, music creation, everything.
00:43How did it start?
00:44Yeah, yeah. Well, we were high school buddies and just started the band in high school.
00:48And just – we didn't really start it to play shows, and it sort of just morphed into hanging out, then playing music, then writing music, playing local shows.
00:55So it, like, just kept leading to the next thing, and next thing you know, the shows got bigger, and MySpace was huge, and Miss Manor happened.
01:04So, yeah. It was cool. Yeah.
01:06So what is – what's your guys' favorite thing about working together, I should say?
01:12Like, what kind of stuff do you find entertaining?
01:15Or is it you guys?
01:16Do you find each other entertaining?
01:17Uh, we – yeah, yeah, I'm struggling. I'm struggling. I'm struggling. I'm struggling like shit.
01:25We've been – we've been friends for so long that it's just a very – it's a very easy, fun time any time we get to do anything.
01:34And he's the newest one, and it's the same way.
01:36It's just a very easy time every time we're together.
01:40That's not necessarily true. There's a lot of stuff that can go wrong, but as far as, like, the four of us and how much fun we have together, it's –
01:49This is easy.
01:50Yeah, this is easy.
01:51Yeah, yeah, hanging out. It's the easy part.
01:53Yeah, I could feel that.
01:55Well, I mean, I think people often forget that even if it's music, you know, it's bands, all that kind of stuff like that, it is still work.
02:01So, I mean, if you guys are butting heads, like, collaborating or figuring out stuff, like, there's going to be conflict. I mean, that's how it goes, right?
02:07Yeah, right. I think one thing that really keeps us going and everything like that is just the fact that we all are still having a blast doing it.
02:14Yeah.
02:14Even after all the years, like, it hasn't really become, like, a job for us.
02:19It's still fun, and we actually all have side gigs at home just to make this more fun out here and to pull less stress out of it.
02:26Sure.
02:26You know what I mean?
02:27So, that way we don't have to come out here and say, hey, how many shirts do we sell? Hopefully we can make ends meet.
02:32It was like, we just come out here now to have a great time, you know?
02:34Yeah.
02:35As we get older, you know, we're all family men now.
02:38That's how it goes. That's awesome.
02:41I did want to ask about some of your new music. So, you guys dropped a song called Pray for Silence, right?
02:46Yes.
02:46Now, I personally am a big fan of that song.
02:49And I know you guys played it. The fans out of the festival stage loved it.
02:51But one thing I wanted to ask specifically about it, though, is I found that the song was extremely heavy, both lyrically and, like, instrumentally.
02:59Okay.
02:59I wanted to know if that was intentional or if there's, like, what's behind that song? I really want to ask you guys.
03:03Yeah, yeah. I think, especially, I think a lot of people can relate, especially when we were in the studio.
03:08Just, I guess, the state of really everything going on all the time and everyone's home lives and just trying to make tour and this work and shows work and studio time.
03:17Like, there's just so much.
03:18And I feel like everyone always has those moments where you're just like, please, can I just, can I turn my phone off or can I have, like, a break?
03:24And that's really what the song's about is, like, getting to that point to where you're just, like, you're almost finding yourself just hoping for just quietness, you know?
03:32I don't know if anybody can get, like, it's the turn off the radio and the long drive kind of sort of song, which is sort of oxymoron because it's, like, a heavy song.
03:40But, yeah, it's, like, that vibe.
03:41Yeah, I gotcha. I gotcha.
03:42Heavy but not heavy.
03:43Right, right, right.
03:44Yeah, yeah.
03:44So, I mean, that's what's really cool about music, right?
03:46How different people can interpret it.
03:48I think that can be interpreted in so many different ways for your fans out there.
03:51Yeah.
03:52I think all of them are good, though, honestly, the way the song, you know, presents itself.
03:55So, really dig the song.
03:57I want to know what's next for you guys, you know?
03:59What's going on next?
04:00You guys back in the studios, like, continuing the tour.
04:02What's up?
04:03Yeah, so we're wrapping up the rest of the writing process for this record, and I don't know if I'm allowed to say when that's supposed to come out, but it'll be on the horizon.
04:14Yeah, we can't say when it's going to be out because we can't even figure out when we're going to finish the thing.
04:20Half is good.
04:21Half is good.
04:23If it goes the way it's supposed to, we will finish our part in November, but we'll see.
04:28Okay.
04:28We probably, we said that last November, too.
04:32We're fine, we're fine.
04:35We're just making sure it's good.
04:36Right.
04:36Okay.
04:36I hear you.
04:37Quality control.
04:38Exactly.
04:39Quality control.
04:39Okay, cool.
04:40Well, I mean, is there anything else you guys want to add to, like, for the fans out there listening, all that kind of stuff like that?
04:45What do you want to let them know?
04:46Yes, today rocked.
04:47Yes, today rocked.
04:48Riff Fest is awesome.
04:49Thank you guys for hanging out with us.
04:50Hopefully you get invited again.
