00:00Are you ready to talk about Sherry?
00:05I was just going to ask you the same thing.
00:07Yes?
00:08Yes.
00:09Should we do like a little circle playtime on the rug,
00:11just to get in the moment?
00:12Your couch is good for me.
00:13Yeah, OK.
00:22Lots to unpack.
00:23Yeah.
00:24I completely understand why she has mom guilt.
00:26There's no separation of the daycare
00:29and her family's home.
00:31Right.
00:32Our new client Sherry has her hands full.
00:33She's trying to make her home a multi-purpose space.
00:35But the amount of work Sherry is tackling
00:37between running her business and running her family,
00:39it's become almost impossible to make this space work
00:42in a way that makes everyone happy, including her.
00:45The kids are feeling it.
00:46But it makes sense.
00:47They come home from school.
00:48They don't have a place to go.
00:50They don't have a place to do their homework.
00:52It's not fair to them.
00:53They deserve to feel like they have a family room
00:55where they can sit together.
00:56They all deserve it.
00:57Yeah.
00:58You want to see the video?
00:59Yes.
01:00All right.
01:04Is there a way we can move the beds
01:06out of the way from the computer
01:08so it won't be so cluttered?
01:09So we can get to it?
01:10Yeah.
01:11We might pipe it over like this,
01:12and then we see it can get to the computer better that way.
01:18Let's put it over here.
01:20Let's move these books off away.
01:22Well, you know what?
01:23If we all get up and help, it would happen a lot faster.
01:28Okay.
01:30Okay.
01:31So you put the books away.
01:32There's too many chairs in that pool here.
01:34I feel like it's too cluttered.
01:36Where are you going to put them?
01:37And there's no room for us to walk through those.
01:40Good job putting them over here.
01:41How about that?
01:42Are they rolling over there now?
01:44Yeah, but then there's still, like, cluttered everywhere.
01:47Um, what struck me about watching them interact with that space
01:53is they have so much stuff in there that they need,
01:56like all the daycare stuff,
01:58but tons of stuff that they need that they don't have,
02:01like seating.
02:02We keep a lot of the stuff there,
02:05but we just need to organize it better.
02:07The other thing is the kids weren't helping clean at all.
02:09Like, it was all up to Sherry.
02:11Kids aren't really motivated to clean, really.
02:15Not naturally.
02:16I liked to organize when I was a kid.
02:18You did.
02:19I loved it.
02:20I'm shocked.
02:21Most kids in the world aren't little like Sabrina's
02:22running around, like, counting down the minutes
02:23until they get to clean.
02:25Especially with older kids who have their own activity,
02:27their own friendships.
02:28Which is why it's important to find ways to make cleaning
02:31more entertaining so it doesn't feel like a chore.
02:33I think that's what we aim for with Sherry's kids.
02:35All right, you ready?
02:37Yeah, I'm ready.
02:38Vamanos.
02:39That means let's go.
02:41Thanks for the translation.
02:46Hello?
02:47Hi.
02:48Come on back.
02:49We're back here.
02:50Hi, Sherry.
02:51Hi.
02:52Hello.
02:53Hi.
02:54How are you?
02:55I'm so happy you're here.
02:56We didn't realize the kids are going to be here.
02:57Yeah.
02:58Two of the five are here.
02:59Two of the five are here.
03:00This is Dana.
03:01Nice to meet you.
03:02Hi, Sabrina.
03:03I'm Jen.
03:04Nice to meet you.
03:05And this is Jason.
03:06I just said.
03:07Sabrina, nice to meet you.
03:08I'm Jen.
03:09Nice to meet you.
03:12The other ones are ato basically practice.
03:13So you're football, is that right?
03:15Jason.
03:16What sports do you play?
03:17I played a football, I was in a football play.
03:21Once we were and then we were at hockey singing the football
03:23and was going to be.
03:24Come over here.
03:25Well, I'm ready.
03:26Thanks Thos, Skyl.
03:27You have fun for a basketball play,
03:28I play football, baseball, basketball.
03:32What about you, Jada?
03:33I do track and field.
03:35I do 100 and 200.
03:37How many seconds does it take to do 100?
03:39You do like 12 seconds.
03:40How much can you do it in?
03:42We should do that later.
03:43Like a minute?
03:44A minute.
03:45Forget it.
03:46OK.
03:47What is it like for you guys when you come home?
03:48Like, what's your normal schedule?
03:50I do come and say hi to everyone,
03:52and then go to my room and do my homework.
03:54What about you?
03:56I do go on the iPad.
03:57OK.
03:58Do you guys have friends over a lot?
04:00No.
04:01Why?
04:02Because it's embarrassing.
04:03Really?
04:04All the toys.
04:04And like, it gets messy really easily.
04:07It's crowded.
04:08Yeah.
04:09Do you feel like this space stresses out your mom?
04:12Yeah.
04:13What would you like to see happen?
04:15I would like to see Lesta.
04:17Lesta.
04:18Her couch.
04:19So you guys can all have a space.
04:21And a new TV, because the TV doesn't work anymore.
04:25I want these kids to have everything
04:26that they're asking for.
04:27But by just getting new stuff, it's not going to fix the problem.
04:30Because in a dual space like this,
04:32there tends to just be a lot of clutter.
04:34But there are some studies that show that having a lot of mess,
04:37especially with teenagers, can make them feel overwhelmed.
04:39So the key is going to be giving them tools to help maintain the space,
04:42even after we're gone.
04:44We're going to make over this whole space.
04:45You're going to have your own amazing living room.
04:47It's going to look fantastic.
04:48But we want you to be able to keep up with the tidying.
04:52And we want you both to be part of it, along with the rest of your siblings.
04:57So we have a strategy called Pavlov's Cleaning.
05:04What we want to do is associate something positive with cleaning.
05:08For example, running track, something I know you're all good at.
05:12You're all a fast family.
05:13So what we're going to do is we're going to have a stopwatch.
05:16We're going to see how much stuff you can tidy up and put away in 30 seconds.
05:22But in here?
05:23In here.
05:24How's that sound?
05:25But we're going to have to move the couch.
05:27No, no.
05:28You don't have to move any furniture.
05:29Don't worry about that.
05:31I'd like to see that, though.
05:33That's the muscles.
05:34With Pavlov's Cleaning, we really want to use the kids' competitiveness
05:38to our advantage, because they love sports.
05:40I mean, what sounds more fun than a cleaning competition?
05:43I'd win that every time.
05:44What's your track stance?
05:46I use blocks, please, sir.
05:47You're on the block?
05:48OK, yeah.
05:49So you're like this, right?
05:50All right, you're ready?
05:51OK.
05:52We've got 30 seconds.
05:53Go!
05:54Go!
05:55Go, team!
05:56Go, team!
05:57You can do it!
05:58You can do it!
05:59You can do it!
06:00You can do it!
06:01Oh, yes!
06:02Pavlov's Cleaning is so great, because it allows children to associate cleaning with fun
06:06and happiness.
06:07And when their contributions are valued, they're more likely to develop a sense of self-worth
06:11and confidence.
06:12Go, team!
06:13Go!
06:14And most importantly, it should be something that gets everyone involved.
06:17Because it's always more fun when you have a cleaning buddy.
06:19Give me a...
06:20Hey!
06:21The cleaning cheerleader?
06:22Give me a Gina!
06:23Give me a Jason!
06:24Sometimes when I try to motivate my daughter, we'll do like a dance party while doing dishes.
06:27Ooh, I love a dance party!
06:28We dance and clean and dance and do dishes and dance and dance.
06:32Five, four, three, two, one!
06:37All right!
06:39Good job, guys!
06:40Good job, guys!
06:42He loves it so much!
06:43I've been searching for a while now for some ideas to keep the kids involved.
06:48And because they're so competitive, incorporating the game will make them excited about helping me out
06:54and hopefully inspiring them to help me keep my space clean and neat and tidy.
06:58Me too!
06:59Good job, Jason!
07:00You are turning into a cleaning machine!
07:01And I want you guys to continue to do this.
07:03And obviously you do it differently with the older kids and the little kids.
07:06And even the toddlers, you can do the clean-up song and like sing to them and they can just clean up all of their toys too.
07:11Yeah!
07:12I just want you to get them involved more to alleviate some of the stress on you.
07:17Yeah.
07:18Right?
07:19But I actually brought something fun.
07:20Hold up, let me grab it.
07:21Now here's a great hack.
07:25To make it so easy to clean.
07:27What is it?
07:28Look at this.
07:29Okay.
07:30Grab some toys.
07:32Oops!
07:33Okay, so let's say that the daycare kids are all playing here, right?
07:38Look at how easy this clean-up is.
07:40One of the most important factors to stay consistent with cleaning is to find ways to make it quick and easy.
07:47You put all here.
07:48Messy is enclosed.
07:50You don't even see the mess anymore.
07:52You put the lid on and you're good to go.
07:54And no matter what age the kids are, it's way more likely that they're going to contribute if it's not a long, arduous process.
08:00That's why these toy sacks are so awesome because it just takes a few minutes to clean up a big mess.
08:05Isn't that great?
08:06That's awesome!
08:07So the mess is in here but you don't see it anymore.
08:09But it's so tidy.
08:10Yeah.
08:11Cool, right?
08:12Yeah.
08:13Okay.
08:14We do need more of those.
08:15You're right, Jason.
08:16You're absolutely right.
08:17The gutting organizer right here.
08:18I think that toy sack hack is going to be great.
08:21It's going to make it easy for the little ones to help keep it clean.
08:24And it also leaves no room or excuses for the older ones because you may know exactly where everything belongs.
08:30Okay.
08:31So we're going to go.
08:32Homework for tonight is just to help your mom a little bit more clean, yes?
08:36And then we will see you tomorrow.
08:37Yeah.
08:38Okay.
08:39And that's tomorrow's when the real work begins.
08:40Yeah.
08:41It's when the space starts to get transformed.
08:42Yeah, so you could say goodbye to being embarrassed about this room because you are not only going to love the space, you're going to want everybody to come over when we're done.
08:50Okay.
08:51Are you excited about that?
08:52Yes.
08:53And it's only in a few more days.
08:54Okay.
08:55All right, we'll see you tomorrow.
08:56Okay.
08:57Bye, guys.
08:58Bye.
08:59Do you think the kids are going to actually do some cleaning for Sherry?
09:01I think just watching them, they seem so competitive, they're not going to want to lose even a cleaning competition.
09:06So fingers crossed.
09:21Hi, Sherry.
09:22Hi.
09:23Come on in.
09:24Hello.
09:25Hello.
09:26How are you guys?
09:27Good to see you.
09:28Hi.
09:29Wow, it looks so clean in here.
09:31Oh, yeah.
09:32The kids help?
09:33Yes, they did.
09:34We played the game.
09:35You did?
09:36We did.
09:37Put everything away.
09:38Put everything away.
09:39Put everything away.
09:40Good job.
09:41Go, guys.
09:42Go, go, go.
09:43You're doing a great job.
09:44Jason helped out the most.
09:46He did.
09:47He really got excited about the game.
09:48I like that he was into it.
09:50It's the competition of it all.
09:51It is.
09:52We're a competitive family.
09:53I have a feeling Sherry's kids weren't the time to pass up on a challenge.
09:58And if the kids feel more ownership over the space, it's going to motivate them to keep
10:01it clean.
10:02Speaking of kids, where is everyone?
10:03My kids are at school and the daycare is closed today because we're so excited that you guys
10:08are here to help me clean up.
10:10So I know you already know Pavlov's cleaning because we did it last night with the kids.
10:14We also have another method called need-want-hate.
10:17This is a shared space and we know your kids spoke a little bit about having some resentment
10:26towards the daycare space encroaching on the family space.
10:29Exactly.
10:30We know running a business out of your home, there's going to be things that you might
10:33not necessarily want to keep in a family room, but you need to keep for the business.
10:37So the way that it works is we look at what you absolutely need.
10:40So for the business, it may be a file folder.
10:43The stuff that you want is maybe things with sentimental value, anything that just really
10:48brings you joy.
10:49And then the last step is we figure out what you hate in the space.
10:53Old chairs that you don't need or a broken TV.
10:56Then we could start kind of figuring out how to customize a room just for you.
11:01So that we maximize your daycare space and your family space and that everything exists together peacefully.
11:08Need-want-hate is the perfect method for Sherry because she has one space that has to serve two completely separate functions.
11:14But it's really difficult for Sherry to make decisions about what's in the best interest for her business
11:19when she's constantly worrying about how it may affect her own kids.
11:22So in order to simplify everything, we're going to focus on the need-want-hate items for the daycare.
11:27Alright, so need. What do you need for daycare?
11:30Well, I really need room for books.
11:32Okay.
11:33Because we love to read.
11:34I love that answer.
11:35I know.
11:36Most important.
11:37I love inspiring young readers, so it has to be room for books.
11:40Absolutely.
11:41Yeah.
11:42By solely focusing on one area at a time, it can allow you to make really instinctive decisions about what's working.
11:48And more importantly, we're going to take away some of that emotional guilt that Sherry feels when she's trying to figure out how to please everyone.
11:53For daycare, what do you want in the space?
11:56I want room for materials like crayons and markers, and we'd like to do art during daycare, so sometimes there's not room on the couches for that or at the computer table, because it's just cramp.
12:10And once we figure out what's needed for the daycare, it's going to be so much easier for us to figure out how to make space for our own kids.
12:16Okay, and then hate.
12:17I hate these blue chairs.
12:19I hate these chairs.
12:20They look like they've been around the block.
12:21They have, and they're peeling, and they're chipped, and they're just eyesore.
12:25Donate?
12:26Donate, for sure.
12:27Bye.
12:28Bye, blue chair.
12:29Bye.
12:30But we still need daycare seating as well.
12:32Yes.
12:33Okay.
12:34If you're somebody like Sherry who works from home, it's important to periodically go through need, want, hate.
12:38I hate these sheets that I have on the couch here.
12:42Yes.
12:43Because if your home office is inundated with clutter, that's not going to set you up for success, and it could affect your wallet.
12:50So now that we're all on the same page of what you need, want, and hate for this space, I want you to go take a little break.
12:56Jen and I and the team are going to clear everything out, and then when we're done, then we're going to use our zoning method so you can visually see how this space is going to flow.
13:06Is it going to be end zones, like a field for the kids?
13:08Yeah.
13:09Is this touchdown?
13:10I don't know.
13:11Yes, that's touchdown.
13:13Yes.
13:14I love football.
13:15Hike.
13:16I think that's for hiking.
13:18Bullseye.
13:19That is football.
13:21I think we should probably stick to organizing.
13:24How are you feeling?
13:25Are you anxious?
13:26I'm very anxious and a little nervous.
13:28Yeah.
13:29So you go take a break, put your feet up, go relax, and then we'll see you in a little bit.
13:33All right.
13:34All right.
13:35You ready?
13:36I'm going to do this thing first.
13:37Creating two different functions for this room means we have to be really methodical about what portion is for the daycare and what portion is for her family.
13:46Grab this and put it outside.
13:47Okay.
13:48I got the crib.
13:49Back in play.
13:51Spoke too soon.
13:53I got the chair.
13:55For some people, having too many things in your line of vision can reduce your brain's capacity for making decisions.
14:02So by emptying out your space, it'll give you a clearer picture of the room's potential.
14:06Oh, this is heavy.
14:08Oh, my God.
14:09Oh, my God.
14:10Also made of lead.
14:11Although seeing your space totally empty could be super jarring, so I don't know how Sherry's going to react.
14:16Sherry.
14:17Sherry.
14:18I hear an echo.
14:19Hello.
14:20Ta-da.
14:21Oh, my goodness.
14:22Ta-da.
14:23Wow.
14:24When's the last time you saw this room empty?
14:25When you bought the house?
14:26Yeah.
14:27It's bigger than the pod.
14:28Yeah.
14:29It's so big.
14:30It's a massive space.
14:31Yeah.
14:32It's a nice size, and I'm echoing, so it's kind of hurting me out.
14:33Yeah.
14:34Don't worry.
14:35It's going to be filled soon enough.
14:36So I wanted to talk to you about the zones that we touched on earlier.
14:51Right.
14:52So we're going to do different colors for different zones.
14:58Okay.
14:59So this is going to be your family zone.
15:01Purple.
15:02Sunroom.
15:03And then green will be daycare.
15:04There are three different ways that people learn.
15:06Visual, auditory, and kinesthetic.
15:08And colored zoning is so great for visual learners.
15:11First thing, you have the TV there.
15:13We're going to upgrade that situation for you.
15:16Okay.
15:17And Jason was really adamant about having a huge sofa.
15:21Yeah.
15:22You said that you sit on the floor to watch, to hang out?
15:24Sometimes, yeah.
15:25You comfortable?
15:26No.
15:27We're not doing that anymore.
15:29So I know this is a little crazy, but what if...
15:34When you have a multi-purpose space like Sherry's, where each area is sort of blending into each
15:40other, the different colors can help you differentiate how each zone is going to work.
15:44Wow.
15:45I know.
15:46Do you think that'll be enough seating?
15:47I think there's going to be more than enough seating.
15:50We know there's a lot of competing energies and purposes in this room.
15:53Yeah.
15:54This adult sectional is going to be for your family.
15:57A real size couch.
15:58Wow.
15:59It's huge.
16:00And no daycare stuff.
16:01It's not a place to lounge.
16:02The best part about taping off zones is that it allows you to really maximize every nook
16:07and cranny, whether it's a challenging space or a multifunctional one like this one.
16:12Then here is going to be a family-only situation where each kid has their own space for their own
16:22things, meaning daycare off limits.
16:24They'll love the sound of that.
16:25And it's fun.
16:26You can get creative.
16:27You can make, like, a tape masterpiece on the floor.
16:30Or we can just plan out the design.
16:32Yeah.
16:33If you want to be boring.
16:34This purple tape represents the Sherry-only space for your business, for your zen, for whatever
16:39you need.
16:40If you want to come here and have a moment and relax, it's for you.
16:44For me.
16:45Wow.
16:46Exactly.
16:47Now that we've cleared out the bedroom, it's so nice to see we actually have a good
16:48amount of space just for Sherry.
16:50Lastly, before you had your computer over here.
16:54Mm-hmm.
16:55Okay.
16:56But now that everything office-related is going to the Sherry-only zen space, what if we set
17:01up tables and chairs and the daycare area over here?
17:05Now that you guys are giving me some order information, I really think that's going to
17:08be good.
17:09Yeah, because we don't want to mess up your system.
17:10What system?
17:11In the past, I have tried to organize, and I usually just come up with these different
17:19piles of stuff in different, various sections, and sometimes stuff gets intertwined.
17:24So, it was really nice to clear out the space and really seeing the different spaces defined.
17:30We have family, daycare, offices in there.
17:35Does that flow feel good to you?
17:37That feels amazing.
17:38I've never had any this much separation.
17:40I know.
17:41So, I'm really excited that things we're going to finally have at this place.
17:44Now that there's a specific zone just for family, I can feel less guilty about the daycare
17:50taking over, our family space, and even having a little room for myself.
17:54I'm really excited about that.
17:55Okay.
17:56So, now that everything's laid out, it's time for me to get to work.
17:59And I have a surprise for you, Sherry.
18:01Are you ready?
18:02I love surprises.
18:03Okay.
18:04So, what we do is something called taking you beyond the mess.
18:07We know it's really stressful.
18:08You work really hard.
18:09You've got five kids.
18:10Yes.
18:11It's tough.
18:12You don't get a lot of time for yourself.
18:13But we want to do something to give back to you.
18:15So, we're going to go to the spa right now.
18:18Really?
18:19Get your nails done.
18:20Because you deserve it.
18:25Aw.
18:30I'm sorry.
18:32I don't know how to hide.
18:36You deserve this.
18:40I really don't realize what I do every day.
18:43Normal, I'm just operating on autopilot.
18:45It's easy for me to do things for other people, but, like, to receive the help myself and to have someone else kind of talk about that, it's always hard for me to hear.
18:56I'm excited.
18:58Seeing Sherry break down really hurt my heart because it just shows us she never takes time for herself, ever.
19:04And I think people feel like taking time for yourself is being selfish, but it's just so important to do it.
19:10Especially as a mom, there's so much pressure to put yourself last, and it's just not the way it should be.
19:14All right.
19:15So, we'll see you, Sam.
19:16Go have fun.
19:17I wasn't expecting anything for myself other than just to get the roommate over.
19:23So, I'm really grateful and excited about just having a little time for myself.
19:28When's the last time you went to a spa?
19:30It sounds like it's been a while.
19:32Yes, it has been.
19:34Honestly, the last gift certificate I got, I re-gifted to someone else, to be very honest with you.
19:38I didn't have time to go, so I just gave it to someone else before it expired.
19:43Have you given any thought to what you want to get done?
19:45I'm thinking manicure.
19:46You're thinking manicure?
19:47Yeah, I'm thinking manicure.
19:48Okay.
19:49I can use a good silk.
19:51Me too.
19:52You're going to be really kicking back today.
20:04This is so nice.
20:05Ready to get our nails done?
20:06Yeah.
20:07Yay.
20:08Okay.
20:09It's just around here.
20:10It's this really cute little spot.
20:16Hello.
20:17Hi.
20:18Hi.
20:19Hi.
20:20This is Sherry.
20:21Hi, Sherry.
20:22Hi.
20:23Hi.
20:24Great to see you again.
20:25Nice to see you.
20:26Thank you so much for setting this up for us.
20:27It looks amazing.
20:28Sherry selflessly puts everyone in her life and all of their needs ahead of her own.
20:32And still, it never feels like enough.
20:33What do we want to do today?
20:35So we're thinking manicures.
20:37Perfect.
20:38It's a really special day for Sherry.
20:40Yay.
20:41We're getting her a pampered spa day.
20:43Great.
20:44And maybe we want to add on some massages then.
20:46Massages then?
20:47Let's do it.
20:48Good.
20:49Let's do it.
20:50Okay.
20:51But doing more and more for everyone but herself is not going to be sustainable.
20:55Because when you get stressed, your body releases cortisol and that can have negative effects
20:58on your mental health and your physical health as well.
21:01So how are you feeling being out of the house now with everything that's been going on?
21:05I'm really enjoying this experience.
21:07I'm kind of worried with the kids.
21:09I always worry about them whenever I'm away.
21:11The babies.
21:12Does the daycare close ever?
21:14Like is it open?
21:15Just on the weekend, they're closed.
21:16Okay.
21:17So you do have the weekends to yourself.
21:18I'm not doing daycare business.
21:20I'm doing my kid business.
21:23You give so much of your energy to your kids at daycare and so much of your energy to your
21:28kids all day every day.
21:31And it's really tough to take time just for yourself.
21:34Yeah, it can be.
21:35So it's really important for me and for Sabrina to make sure that you're rested and reset.
21:42Because in addition to making your home look really incredible, we want to get your head right too.
21:48And that's why I wanted to give you this little break and remind you how important it is to take care of yourself.
21:55Even if it's just five minutes, closing the bathroom door, taking that time.
22:00I would love for this to be a regular practice for you.
22:03Definitely.
22:04Yeah.
22:05I think it's really realistic thinking to just try to time out in like small increments.
22:10Yeah.
22:11Obviously you're not going to just be able to traipse away whenever you want.
22:15This is really just about finding like a little bit more time for yourself in whatever way that you're able to do it so that you're then able to keep giving.
22:23Definitely.
22:24I think that learning to take time for myself was going to be really important moving forward in general just so I can be a better mom and better care provider for others.
22:32Yeah.
22:33Sometimes when you're in autopilot and you're just working, working, working, you don't have time to like always take a step back and take a break and really assess what's going on.
22:41So by kind of pulling me out of it, it's really giving me a perspective that I'm always thinking about others and so I need to sit back and take a moment sometimes just to give a little self care to myself.
22:52It's a balance.
22:53Mm-hmm.
22:54I really am grateful that I'm really grateful for this whole experience.
22:57I'm looking forward to going back into my space in a clear way.
23:01When we get back, it's going to be your place, but even better.
23:05It's going to be so good.
23:06I'm really excited though, but I really am.
23:09This looks so awesome.
23:27Because we're trying to serve both the daycare and Sherri's family at the same time, it's important that we infuse touches that appeal to everyone.
23:35So for instance, adding this wall mural will add color and visual interest for the daycare, but I think Sherri's family is going to love it too.
23:42That guy's big.
23:45By adding special touches that were specifically requested by Sherri's family, this space will feel not only upgraded, but customized just for them.
23:53Like I want this for my house, for all my craft supplies.
23:57But we still have three separate zones that need to be transformed, which means we have a lot of work to get these spaces ready.
24:04So I think Jen has had enough relaxation time.
24:19Oh, that's so nice.
24:20Oh, it feels so amazing.
24:23Got a text.
24:28It's from Sabrina.
24:30She says, hi, how's the spa day going?
24:34I don't want to shortchange Sherri, but on the other hand, are you coming back soon?
24:39We're never coming back.
24:42So I definitely have to get back and help Sabrina finish your space.
24:47But I want you to stay and have a relaxing afternoon.
24:50This is your day.
24:52And tomorrow's the big reveal.
24:53So relax tonight.
24:55I'm going to run back and we'll see you soon.
24:58See you soon.
24:59Don't work too hard.
25:00I'll try not to.
25:10You're doing a great job, Sabrina.
25:12I'm just here.
25:13No, we don't have time.
25:14Get up.
25:15I was fluffing it.
25:16You have tested this couch out enough.
25:19We have been working all night to make this place look amazing.
25:23Are you sure that I can't just stay on the couch a little longer?
25:25I want more than amazing.
25:26I want it to be perfect for Sherri.
25:32And it's not just Sherri that we need to please.
25:34It's her own kids and her daycare kids.
25:36There's a lot of people depending on the space.
25:40I just hope at the end of the day that they love the space as much as we do.
25:47Is that her?
25:48That might be her.
25:49Hello?
25:50Hello, my lady.
25:51Hi, are you here?
25:52I'm pulling up right now.
25:54Okay, we'll meet y'all front.
25:55Don't come in.
25:56Don't come in.
25:57Okay.
25:58Bye.
25:59Bye.
26:04Hello.
26:05Hi.
26:06Hi, Sherri.
26:07I've been up all night because I couldn't sleep.
26:09How are you feeling?
26:10Super excited and nervous.
26:12We're feeling the same way.
26:13Come on.
26:14Oh, my gosh.
26:15I know I'm in good hands, but I'm just feel like a little nervous that it may not be what I want it to be.
26:21Okay, so we want this to be a big surprise, so you're going to have to cover your eyes.
26:24Go ahead.
26:25Okay.
26:26Ready?
26:27Oh, my goodness.
26:28I want to make sure that everyone has everything they need.
26:31My kids as well as my daycare kids.
26:34So that's a lot of people to please, so I feel the pressure's on.
26:38You ready?
26:39Ready?
26:40No.
26:41I just want to make sure that I take care of everyone.
26:44I don't know.
26:45Sherri, take a look at your new room.
26:48Oh, my goodness.
26:59Sherri, take a look at your new room.
27:02Oh, my goodness.
27:05What do you think?
27:07Oh, my God.
27:08Is this the same house I own up?
27:18This is amazing.
27:20I am just so taken back.
27:23It's just so beautiful.
27:25Oh, my God.
27:26Look at the couch.
27:28So you remember we needed seating for your family where everyone could sit and feel included?
27:33Sit?
27:34We found this massive couch for you that will fit everyone.
27:38It's comfortable.
27:39It's sophisticated.
27:41I could totally come in here and see my kids, like, one of these sides.
27:43And guess what you're not going to do anymore in this space?
27:46Sit on the floor.
27:48Right.
27:49Right.
27:50I could have a toe comfy too.
27:51Yes!
27:53Yes, Papa Bear!
27:55Now we're talking.
27:56Now we're talking.
27:57Now, if you didn't notice, there's a larger TV.
28:00Massive.
28:01Massive TV.
28:02And you have this beautiful mural that's custom hand-painted just for you.
28:06That's crazy.
28:07I can't believe y'all did that.
28:08Isn't that cool?
28:09That's very, very cool.
28:10Because it's playful for the daycare vibe, but it's still sophisticated earthy colors for the family vibe.
28:17Some people think that a mural can really overwhelm a space, but that's not necessarily the case.
28:23The key is to use darker colors on the bottom half and then go lighter on the top.
28:28I love all the colors.
28:30The gradient will soften the effect and leave the room feeling bright and airy.
28:34Did you see the lights?
28:37I love these lights.
28:38It still has something that your eyes can look up and brings a little more playfulness to the space.
28:47Very cool.
28:48It's hard to find decor pieces that can appeal to the daycare and the older kids, but I feel like these light fixtures, they add a little bit of a whimsical touch that's still sophisticated.
28:58Oh my gosh, I got a little toy.
29:01Look how fun this little tent is.
29:03Very cute.
29:04Of the kids to go in.
29:05I love it.
29:06They'll love that.
29:07I love tents.
29:08I love people.
29:09Cute little rainbow play sets.
29:10Yeah, they can crawl and climb on these and step on them and jump off of them and do all the things they want to do.
29:15There's plenty to play with here.
29:17There's plenty to explore.
29:18We didn't want to overwhelm this space with a bunch of toys for the daycare, so we used aesthetically pleasing little decor items.
29:25And Shuri even wants more space after the daycare is shut down for the day.
29:29That tent is collapsible, so she can pack it up, stuff it behind the couch, and then bring it back the next morning.
29:35And I'm sure you're wondering where all of your supplies are.
29:38Right?
29:39Look at this.
29:42That is so awesome!
29:45Oh my gosh!
29:46Look at all your kids' stuff.
29:47Look at all the parts up in there!
29:49That's yours.
29:50It's so pretty!
29:51That you need for your businesses in here.
29:54It's so awesome!
29:55I love how you kept everything, like, together.
29:58And this folds down as a desk as well.
30:02Wow!
30:04The Dreambox cabinet is perfect for the space.
30:09It's beautiful, yet it's so much storage for all of her supplies.
30:13Then at 6 o'clock when everybody's gone...
30:15You can actually close it all.
30:16You can close it so that your family can enjoy this space.
30:19So you don't have to be out and falling around on everyone.
30:22Just having all the daycare items hidden out of sight is just going to give her own kids a bit of a visual break from all that clutter and almost make them forget that they're sharing this space.
30:31There's also this huge ottoman, which is extra seating. You can pull it out. It's full of toys.
30:37Toys!
30:38But again, you can fill it out.
30:40In the way.
30:41Choosing multi-functional pieces is key for this space because it creates more seating for her family and more storage for the daycare.
30:48And when it's time to tidy up, the kids can do Pavlov's cleaning and put everything in the ottoman and everything will be hidden in, like, 30 seconds.
30:55Can you remember the blue chairs that you hated?
30:57Yes!
30:58Yes!
30:59Because all these are tiny little chairs.
31:04Take that peeling and chip.
31:07This is a total game changer for me.
31:10You have an entire basket full of books.
31:12Nice.
31:13So that they're on the floor so the kids can easily access them.
31:16All the kids have their own hooks.
31:17Oh, we don't have to put our jackets on the couch anymore.
31:19Yep.
31:20So they can put all of their backpacks there.
31:22I believe that my daycare family is going to be so proud of our new space.
31:26They're going to be happy to come in here every day.
31:29Definitely makes me feel better about my business.
31:31I know your children were saying that they wanted things for their own.
31:35Mm-hmm.
31:36So everybody has their own blankets, their own slippers in their sizes we got for them.
31:40That's so cute!
31:41So they don't have to fight over anything and they have their own space that is customized to them.
31:46I feel like they've really reclaimed my family back in this space.
31:51And it's the perfect blend of both worlds.
31:53So you know we're not done?
31:55No.
31:56You want to go see your own office?
31:59Take a look.
32:01Welcome to your new zen office.
32:03One.
32:06Oh my goodness.
32:10Do you remember what this space looked like before?
32:12The mess.
32:16Sit at your new desk.
32:21Sit at your new desk.
32:22Okay.
32:23You have a new desk to sit at.
32:25We hope you don't mind your computer is no longer in the corner of your living room.
32:29No, I don't mind at all.
32:30I can sit near the windows.
32:32If we had to add a desk and an office chair, it would be way too grimped.
32:36But by customizing a cushion for the window seat, we were able to really utilize the space perfectly.
32:41Everything is nicely organized.
32:46You have an entire filing system here.
32:48You have your calendar to keep track of all of the activities.
32:51So this is the business zone, but this is the lounging, relaxing area.
32:56Come take a look at your new accent chair.
32:58It's the best part.
32:59I want you to try it out for size.
33:00Very nice.
33:01You could relax here, but you could also have potential clients.
33:05When you're expanding the daycare, come meet you in here.
33:07Nice.
33:08Yeah, you can say, meet me in my office.
33:10Yes.
33:11Yes, come to Michelle's office.
33:13I just can't believe that I finally have my own space in the house.
33:18It's just unreal.
33:20I can definitely envision myself doing some work and just planning out my next chapter.
33:26You'll remember to take time for yourself as well.
33:29Definitely.
33:30I can't wait to come back here and be like, okay, I'm going to my office with Neal.
33:36Having this office space now, just for me, is a reminder that I have to take better care of myself.
33:42I just feel like I want to lounge.
33:44Yeah, relax.
33:46Take a load off.
33:47You deserve it.
33:48Very cool.
33:49I'm just so grateful.
33:50I'm thankful.
33:51You really, really, truly deserve it.
33:53You give so much to the community and to your family, and we wanted to be able to give something back to you.
33:59I'm just excited to share it with my babies.
34:01What time do the kids come home normally?
34:03They should be walking in the room with it.
34:05Okay.
34:06Nothing is more important to Sherry than making sure her kids are happy, so I really hope they like it.
34:11Fingers crossed.
34:12Oh, wait, I hear them.
34:13I hear them.
34:14I hear them.
34:15Are you guys home?
34:16Come on in, guys.
34:17Oh, my God.
34:18Oh, my God.
34:19Oh, my God.
34:26Seeing Sherry love the space was amazing.
34:29The kids brought it to a whole new level.
34:32America, look at our couch.
34:34What do you think?
34:35Check out the couch.
34:36Are you surprised?
34:37Sit.
34:38Oh, my God.
34:39New TV, Jason.
34:40Oh, my God.
34:41Jason.
34:42Oh, my God.
34:46This makes me feel so happy that the kids are enjoying their new space.
34:52Oh, my God.
34:54Look at my home.
34:55Oh, my God.
34:56Oh, my God.
34:57Oh my gosh.
35:00They seem so happy to see the different centers
35:03and the daycare and the family room blended together.
35:06Open that up.
35:07Open that up, Jee-la.
35:07Oh my goodness.
35:09Oh my gosh.
35:11Whole new supply for the daycare.
35:13Oh my gosh.
35:15Look how cool this is.
35:16It opens.
35:17This is a desk that comes down.
35:19Jason!
35:20Perfect for you to do that homework.
35:22Jason!
35:23I don't want to hear no struggles.
35:24Jason, that is so perfect.
35:25There go an orange market.
35:27There go a blue market.
35:28Get that home.
35:29Jason!
35:30Their responses just made my heart feel so warm.
35:33Do you love it?
35:34I promise.
35:35No excuses.
35:36Just to see that they were happy for me
35:38and they were happy for our new space.
35:40So when we met, you were saying that you were embarrassed
35:44to bring friends over.
35:46Are you going to bring friends over?
35:48Are you going to bring friends over?
35:49Yeah.
35:49Yes!
35:50Yes!
35:51Yes!
35:52Yes!
35:53I'm sleeping here tonight.
35:54You sleeping in here tonight?
35:55You sleeping in here tonight, JC?
35:56I love drinking English tea.
35:57I love drinking English tea.
35:58You guys get all the same here.
35:59It's so rewarding to be able to give this space to Sheri and I think the resentment that
36:03she felt from having these dual spaces is now gone.
36:04Your mom deserves it.
36:05She does deserve it.
36:06She does deserve it.
36:07And I want to show you something Jen and I also created.
36:08Remember there were cubbies for the daycare?
36:09These are for you.
36:10Each and every one of you have your own like Chasen.
36:12Oh, you're sleeping in here tonight.
36:13I love drinking English tea.
36:14I love drinking English tea.
36:15You guys get all the same here.
36:16It's so rewarding to be able to give this space to Sheri and I think the resentment that
36:20she felt from having these dual spaces is now gone.
36:25Your mom deserves it.
36:26She does deserve it.
36:27She does deserve it.
36:28And I want to show you something Jen and I also created.
36:32Remember there were cubbies for the daycare?
36:34These are for you.
36:35Each and every one of you have your own like Chasen.
36:38You have your own blanket.
36:39Throw a blanket.
36:40I even put some candy in there for you.

37:47organized.
37:48Need, want, hate.
37:49Easy.
37:50That's it.
37:51Get it in, Alina.

38:23Because as we always say, there is nothing wrong with a little bit of clutter.
38:26And mess is not a bad word.
38:28It is very common and very normal to have rooms that look like this.
38:33I firmly believe it's not about the stuff.
38:35It's about putting systems in place for you to live your best life.
38:38I just feel like I can do it now.
38:40Of course you can.
38:41I can do these things.
38:42You have no idea how much of our job is just about making people feel heard
38:46and giving them a little bit of permission to not be perfect.
38:48You want after a long day of work to just do that and close it.
38:53We are okay with that.
