00:00If you're managing anemia, be mindful of certain foods that can inhibit iron absorption.
00:05First, coffee and tea contain polyphenols and tannins that block the body's ability to absorb
00:12non-heme iron. Second, dairy products like milk, cheese and yogurt are high in calcium,
00:19which competes with iron for absorption. Third, foods rich in phytates, including whole grains,
00:26legumes and nuts, can bind to iron and reduce its availability. Eggs also pose a challenge due
00:33to a compound called phosphine. Furthermore, high oxalate foods such as spinach, rhubarb and
00:40chocolate can interfere with iron absorption. Lastly, soy products like tofu and soy milk
00:47contain phytic acid that inhibits iron absorption.
