00:00Calypso, the luxe launch at Pueblo El Pao in Santa Cruz, offered entertainment from
00:05start to finish.
00:16Patrons were treated to an evening of music, fashion, premium drinks and gourmet dishes.
00:21Event promoter Kit Israel, who is known in the entertainment industry as a music producer,
00:27explains the concept behind Calypso.
00:30It's called Calypso because we're taking the old and bringing it to the new.
00:33Calypso is a K, right?
00:35So the idea behind it is really about taking the backbone of the music that we have and
00:40making it modern again, but not just the music, but the fashion as well, because we need culture
00:44and music combined together in order to make the revolution called Calypso.
00:53But it's a lot deeper than that as Israel tells us that every two to three years, Soka changes
01:00and he believes the country has been losing its identity bit by bit, especially when it
01:05comes to music.
01:06So I can address back a little bit and I said, you know, Calypso always had that strong stance
01:11worldwide.
01:13But how come we never capitalized on it before it transformed into Soka and and Soka and Carnival
01:19became bigger worldwide, but it still doesn't really represent like a genre or Grammy winning.
01:25But Calypso had that attention before Soka started and it is very interesting to kind of
01:32watch and see how they did it and what we were missing from what's going forward.
01:36He states that even the clothing worn by calypsonians carried a distinct look and he refers to
01:43the event as a movement.
01:45Calypso itself is really a genre that we push in, but a genre by itself cannot work anymore.
01:51It needs to have a culture behind it.
01:53Actually, I think not just anymore, just overall, it needs to have a culture.
01:58It needs to have a look.
01:59It needs to have a feel.
02:00It can't just be music and just say, hope for the best.
02:05So that's where the idea came to represent Calypso, the brand of Calypso with fashion
02:10as well, the music.
02:12As for the designers, it was Ryan Chan, Christian Boku, Aaron Moneer, Nobala Chi and Eklif Eli.
02:22And we're told they all brought their A-game.
02:24Israel teamed up with ET&T to see his idea come to fruition.
02:29And according to him, it was a success with just about 300 attendees, including Elizabeth
02:34Lady Montano.
02:36He takes note of ills such as crime facing the country.
02:39I just think that pride for your country and then for your fellow man is missing.
02:45And that's why people treat people that way, as well as there's a lot of hurt people out
02:49there that are not in a good position.
02:51So therefore, they respond in a particular way and then it's hurt people, hurting people
02:55that hurt people.
02:56And it's just this continuity of hurt.
02:58And I think something like this is a highlight in their life where it is it could create the
03:02change and the love again for something beyond just themselves.
03:05Plans are being fleshed out for the future of Calypso with the intention of making it into
03:18an annual staple.
