04:46Let's, once again, hold up in prayer and petition all those who've asked for our prayers for their health,
04:50for their healing, or for any special need, that God the Father, through the mercy of his
04:56Son, Jesus, may grant them all that is needful to them. We pray especially for Laura, Stan, Kelly,
05:03Curtis, Joshua, Tom, Karen, Gregory, Teresa, Michelle, Susan, Gary, Gary and Sandra, Fred,
05:13Teresa, Carla, Francine, Eileen, Joyce, Helen, Michael, Francis, Dan, Bob, Brian, Tom, Dawn,
05:24Fran, Zosia, Bob, Bishop John, Bishop Paul, Gordon, Amy, Liz, Dorothy, Jennifer, Daniel and Julia
05:35and all those needing God's healing grace. We pray for all those who serve in the armed forces of the
05:41United States, especially Michael, Mark, Patrick, Timothy, Charlie, Father Joseph, Father Andrew,
05:48Father Stan, Father Andrew, Father Nadim and Father Mariusz. For all those in public service,
05:56our civil servants, police officers and firefighters, for all active retired clergy of our Holy Church,
06:02for all students and teachers at Mount Pleasant Middle School over their summer break, for the
06:08residents and staff of City Mission of Schenectady, for residents and staff of Pathways, for all members
06:13of the Civil Air Patrol, and for all those who have asked for our prayers for any need or intention.
06:19This we remember and pray for in a special way the people and the clergy of St. Casmers Parish in Lowell,
06:26Massachusetts. We bring all these prayers together before God the Father in the words Jesus taught us.
06:33Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come,
06:39thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our
06:46trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation,
06:53but deliver us from evil. Amen. Lord God Almighty, the beginning and the end, the first and the last,
07:01direct our hearts and bodies in the love of God and the patience of Christ. Bless us,
07:06defend us from all evil, and bring us safely to life everlasting through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
07:15Well, good morning, my dear brothers and sisters, and welcome again on this 21st Sunday in Ordinary
07:21Time. A few quick announcements. Our picnic, thank you very much for everyone who came and joined in
07:30our parish and community picnic. It was a wonderful event. We saw lots of friends there,
07:35and that was really wonderful. Thank you to all who prepared and brought foods. The salads,
07:42everything was really good. The desserts were outstanding. I think the brownies were the big
07:49hit, but everything, and the macaroons, that was a big one too. So those were great. Thank you for
07:55everyone who helped with set up and take down. And just thank you. Oh, and thank you, of course,
08:01to our grill masters, Pete and Larry. We did a great job with the hamburgers and hot dogs. So
08:08another wonderful event. And, you know, some things we have to think about for next year. Of course,
08:16we had our problem with our little flying friends, which were around. Maybe, you know, I don't think
08:22some people have suggested we kind of move it more into September, and that should tone that down.
08:28Also, another thing we can look into is having the property examined by an exterminator to see
08:35where they're coming from so we can make them go bye-bye. So we'll look into those things and talk
08:43about them. And your input, of course, is very welcome. Our fall soup sale, I see people are signing
08:49up. It's really simple. Make whatever soup you like. It doesn't matter. We will give you containers
08:55for the soup. You just put some in there. If you make, you know, four or five quarts of soup and then
09:01just bring them to church. We'll pop them in the freezer and then we'll put those up for sale and
09:06people just stop by and get a nice quart of great soup for the fall season, which is, you know,
09:13be a nice little fundraiser for us. So there's a sign-up sheet downstairs and maybe there's one in the
09:20back there. So please take note of that. A grounds cleanup. Paul will be here on Saturday, August 30th
09:30to do a grounds cleanup. This is very important, something we need to pay attention to. There's a
09:37sign-up sheet downstairs. Even if you can come for just an hour or two, that would be very helpful.
09:43You know, it is important that we take care of all of the property here, including around the parish
09:49house and all that to make sure that, you know, those, those, you know, whatever kind of trees that
09:56grow those weedy trees, we get rid of those and that protects our property from damage and anything we
10:04would not want to happen. And of course, keeps our property clean and dignified. A good example for all
10:13those that we are neighbors to. Trip to Scranton this fall. I'd love to set that up. I hear there's
10:21some interest in that. There is a sign-up sheet downstairs. I put date to be determined. We'll
10:27see who signs up. We'll talk among ourselves and then we'll see, you know, what works for everybody.
10:34The trip would include, of course, a trip to St. Stanislaus Cathedral, a trip to the National
10:42Church Center, a trip to the Savin' Roller Theological Seminary, the tomb of Bishop Hoder at St.
10:50Stanislaus Cemetery. Also, St. Stanislaus Cemetery contains the earthly remains of many of the notables
10:59of our church's history. All of the prime bishops of the church are buried there. So, you know,
11:07if you'd like to go and then we'll go out to Spoonia Farm, out to Waymart and have a nice picnic lunch
11:14slash dinner there and then come back. We will get transportation so nobody has to worry about
11:21driving. And it'll be a really nice time and something, you know, that you can check out all
11:30the stuff of the church. Let's see, other things going on. Tomorrow, the Feast of St. Bartholomew,
11:37which was moved from today, was translated. Food pantry tomorrow. There'll be no Holy Mass this
11:44week. I'll be down in Scranton to work at both the seminary, the National Church Center, and the
11:51Diocesan Chancery. There's a lot to do, so I'm going to go down and pitch in. Next Sunday, regular Holy
11:59Mass schedule, 10 a.m. Holy Mass will be offered for the repose of Stefan Vanglinski. And then it's
12:07Labor Day already the following Monday. Please remember that there is no food pantry on national
12:14holidays, so on September 1st there'll be no food pantry. With that, let us now rise and begin our
12:22worship with song.
12:34To thee we come, O Lord our God, before thine altar, Father. Thou knowest best our yearning hearts,
12:51this supplication answer. Lift up from want thy people, Lord. Bless us, O God. O Father, bless our
13:08toil. We ask thee not for bliss in life, nor golden treasures splendor.
13:21But that we enter in the strife, Christ's kingdom to engender. Lift up from sin thy people, Lord.
13:37Save us, O Father, bless our toil. Under thy cross we stand prepared.
13:50To serve thee with devotion. Be it with sweat of blood or tears, or humble resignation. For we thy people are, O Lord.
14:12Save us, O God. O Father, bless our toil.
14:19Again, good morning, my dear brothers and sisters. Welcome to this 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time.
14:29Today's Holy Mass is offered for each and every one of you, for all of our parishioners, all of our members,
14:35all those who find their home of faith here with us at Holy Name of Jesus in Schenectady.
14:41Today's Holy Mass, the Contemporary Rite, found on page 63 of the Tan Pugh Missal.
14:48In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
14:52Lord, bless us with the wisdom to praise you in spirit and in truth, so that by following your holy will,
14:58we may gain eternal salvation.
15:00My dear brothers and sisters, let's now pause, confess our sins to God, and prepare ourselves so that we may worthily participate in this holy sacrifice.
15:12I recall their sinfulness in seeking recognition.
15:42In reconciliation with God and each other, let's now recite the second form of the Confidure, found on page 66.
15:49I confess to Almighty God, in the presence of the Blessed Virgin Mary, all the saints, and you, my brothers and sisters,
15:57that I have sinned through my own fault, in my thoughts, in my words, in what I have done or failed to do.
16:06I ask the Blessed Virgin Mary, all the saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God.
16:14As an act of penance for our sinfulness, let us offer up an hour, Father, this evening, before we go to bed,
16:22asking Jesus for help in following the narrow path and walking through the narrow gate.
16:30May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life.
16:34May our Lord Jesus Christ absolve you with his authority vested in me.
16:39I absolve you from all your sins.
16:42In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
16:48To you we owe our hymn of praise, O God on Zion.
16:53To you our vows must be fulfilled.
16:56You who hear our prayers.
16:58To you all flesh must come with its burden of wicked deeds.
17:03We are overcome by our sins.
17:06Only you can pardon them.
17:08Happy the chosen ones you bring to dwell in your courts.
17:13May we be filled with the good things of your house,
17:16the blessings of your holy temple.
17:19Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
17:23As the beginning is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
17:30Lord, have mercy.
17:33Christ, have mercy.
17:36Lord, have mercy.
17:39Let us rise and give glory to God, saying,
17:43Glory to God in the highest, and peace to his people on earth.
17:47Lord God, Heavenly King, Almighty God and Father,
17:51we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory.
17:56Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God,
18:02you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
18:07You are seated at the right hand of the Father.
18:10Receive our prayer, for you alone are the Holy One,
18:13you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High,
18:17Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit,
18:20in the glory of God the Father. Amen.
18:24The Lord be with you.
18:26And also with you.
18:27Let us pray.
18:30Almighty Father,
18:31may we not presume to be righteous in your sight.
18:36Grant us the grace of humility,
18:38that we may serve you faithfully in our lives,
18:41and at long last enter through the narrow gate into your kingdom.
18:46We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
18:50who lives and reigns with you in the Holy Spirit,
18:52one God forever and ever.
18:56Let us now be seated and attentive to the Lord's Word.
18:59Amen.
19:00Amen.
19:16Our first reading is a reading from the book of the prophet Isaiah.
19:28Thus says the Lord,
19:29I know their works and their thoughts,
19:33and I come to gather nations of every language.
19:37They shall come and see my glory.
19:39I will set a sign among them.
19:42From them I will send fugitives to the nations,
19:46to Tarshish, to Put and Ludd,
19:50Masak, Tubal and Javan,
19:53to the distant coastlands that have never heard of my fame
19:56or seen my glory.
19:59And they shall proclaim my glory among the nations.
20:02They shall bring all your brothers and sisters
20:04from all the nations as an offering to the Lord
20:07on horses and in chariots,
20:11in carts, upon mules and dromedaries,
20:14to Jerusalem, my holy mountain, says the Lord,
20:17just as the Israelites bring their offering
20:20to the house of the Lord in clean vessels.
20:23Some of these I will take as priests and Levites,
20:27says the Lord.
20:28The word of the Lord.
20:30Thanks be to God.
20:32A responsorial psalm.
20:34Go out to all the world and tell the good news.
20:38Go out to all the world and tell the good news.
20:42Praise the Lord, all you nations.
20:45Glorify him, all you peoples.
20:47Go out to all the world and tell the good news.
20:53For steadfast is his kindness toward us,
20:56and the fidelity of the Lord endures forever.
21:00Go out to all the world and tell the good news.
21:05Our second reading is a reading from the letter to the Hebrews.
21:10Brothers and sisters,
21:11You have forgotten the exhortation addressed to you as children.
21:18My son, do not disdain the discipline of the Lord
21:21or lose heart when reproved by him.
21:25For whom the Lord loves, he disciplines.
21:28He scourges every son he acknowledges.
21:32Endure your trials as discipline.
21:35God treats you as sons.
21:37For what son is there whom his father does not discipline?
21:44At the time, all discipline seems a cause not for joy but for pain.
21:50Yet later it brings the peaceful fruit of righteousness
21:53to those who are trained by it.
21:56So strengthen your drooping hands and your weak knees.
22:01Make straight paths for your feet.
22:04That what is lame may not be disjointed but healed.
22:08The word of the Lord.
22:10Thanks be to God.
22:11Please rise.
22:32Alleluia.
22:33Alleluia.
22:34Alleluia.
22:34I am the gate.
22:38Whoever enters through me will be saved.
22:42Alleluia.
22:43Alleluia.
22:48Lord, in my heart and in my lips,
22:50my worldly proclaim this holy gospel
22:51through Jesus Christ our Lord.
22:53Amen.
22:57The Lord be with you.
23:00A reading from the holy gospel according to St. Luke.
23:04Glory be to you, O Lord.
23:06Jesus passed through towns and villages,
23:10teaching as he went and making his way to Jerusalem.
23:14Someone asked him,
23:16Lord, will only a few people be saved?
23:19He answered them,
23:20Strive to enter through the narrow gate,
23:23for many, I tell you, will attempt to enter
23:26but will not be strong enough.
23:29After the master of the house has arisen and locked the door,
23:32then will you stand outside knocking and saying,
23:36Lord, open the door for us.
23:38He will say to you and reply,
23:40I do not know where you are from.
23:42And you will say,
23:43We ate and drank in your company
23:45and you taught in our streets.
23:47Then he will say to you,
23:49I do not know where you are from.
23:52Depart from me, all you evildoers.
23:55And there will be wailing and grinding of teeth
23:58when you see Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob
24:01and all the prophets in the kingdom of God
24:04and you yourselves cast out.
24:07And people will come from the east and the west
24:09and from the north and the south
24:11and will recline at table in the kingdom of God.
24:15For behold, some are last who will be first
24:18and some are first who will be last.
24:22This is the gospel of the Lord.
24:26Praise be to you, O Lord Jesus Christ.
24:29Holy Spirit, come inspire us.
24:49Send your sevenfold gifts upon us
24:56As we hear your word, Mo Salam
25:02Teach our hearts to know your wisdom
25:07As we hear your word, Mo Salam
25:13Teach our hearts to know your wisdom
25:18And people will come from the east
25:34and from the west and from the north
25:36and from the south
25:37and will recline at table in the kingdom of God
25:41In the name of the Father and of the Son
25:43and of the Holy Spirit, Amen
25:45My dear brothers and sisters
25:47Over the past couple of weeks
25:49I think I've been a little hard on you
25:52We've discussed some difficult things
25:54but, you know, they are important reminders
25:57They're important things
25:58that we need to keep in mind
26:00to live our faith faithfully
26:03We reviewed our call to love
26:07To put our faith on full display
26:10To be resolved in all we do
26:14And to be honest, not just nice
26:18We are called to discipline
26:21We're called to discipline ourselves
26:26For there is fruit from discipline
26:29As the letter to the Hebrews recounts
26:32At that time, all discipline seems a course
26:36not for joy, but for pain
26:39Yet later, it brings the peaceful fruit
26:43of righteousness
26:44We talked about placing our faith
26:48on and in the Lord Jesus
26:50Following his teachings
26:52which indeed are meant for us
26:54The way we are to live
26:57It may seem difficult
27:00A bridge too far
27:02It may seem a hill that's too steep to climb
27:06And we think we cannot climb it
27:09But we can
27:11Because we have Jesus Christ at our side
27:15We can because we have God's promise
27:19His grace
27:21Which gives us strength, energy
27:24And the ability to do these things
27:27And proof that following His will
27:31Doing what He asks
27:33Results in blessings
27:35In our first reading from Isaiah
27:38We hear of God's promise
27:41To all nations
27:42This prophecy was antithetical
27:47To the people of Israel
27:48Remember, they saw themselves
27:51And they knew from God's word
27:53That they were the chosen people
27:56They were set apart
27:59They were different from everybody else
28:02And here was Isaiah
28:06Proclaiming that these people
28:08Would come from all over the world
28:10From these nations
28:11That didn't even know Him
28:13Would come to serve Him
28:15To the people of Israel
28:18God had bigger plans
28:20Than just them
28:22God let them know
28:26That His promise was
28:28For all nations
28:30Of course
28:31They didn't believe it
28:34God proved it
28:37God proved His promise
28:39For all nations
28:40Because you and I
28:42Are right here
28:44Right now
28:45We are those people
28:47Of all nations
28:48That God has brought
28:50Into His Israel
28:52God would not just make us
28:55God would not just make us
28:58Part of His promises
29:00And inheritance
29:00But would raise us up
29:02Even further
29:04He would install us
29:06As priests
29:07And Levites
29:08Those were the most cherished
29:11The most exceptional
29:12And the most set apart
29:14Of the people of Israel
29:16Our call
29:19Is to recognize
29:20The value
29:22Of heeding the things
29:23We have been reminded of
29:25And living out
29:27Our faithfulness
29:28That value
29:29Is God
29:30Letting us in
29:32God letting us in
29:34And it's not just
29:36An entrance
29:36It's not just God saying
29:38Okay
29:38I'm opening the door
29:39Come on in
29:41That's good
29:42In and of itself
29:43But better than that
29:46He says
29:46Not only can you
29:47Come on in
29:48But I've set a table
29:50For you
29:51And you can recline
29:53On these beautiful
29:55Soft cushions
29:56And you can enjoy
29:57All of the bounty
29:59Of my kingdom
30:00I'm going to serve you
30:02I'm going to take care of you
30:04And you're going to have
30:05True happiness
30:07Joy
30:08And peace
30:09Jesus' reminder
30:12Of what it takes
30:14To be those people
30:15Strive to enter
30:17Through the narrow gate
30:19For many I tell you
30:20Will attempt to enter
30:22But will not be strong enough
30:24That's strength
30:26And every time we hear
30:28Strong enough
30:28And especially
30:29In our culture today
30:31We think
30:31Well that means
30:32I've got to go to the gym
30:33I've got to work out
30:34I've got to walk
30:35You know
30:357,000 steps
30:37That's the new standard
30:38By the way
30:387,000 steps a day
30:40Keeps you healthy
30:41Both mentally
30:42And physically
30:42They used to say
30:4410,000
30:44We got a 3,000 break
30:46But it's not just
30:49Being physically strong
30:51That's an important thing
30:52That's a good thing
30:53But God wants us
30:56To be metaphysically
30:57Strong
30:58We must be strong
31:01In our faith
31:02And we're strong
31:03In our faith
31:04In very small ways
31:06And those small ways
31:08Are important
31:09And are good
31:10It's the small things
31:12We do each day
31:14Those small things
31:15Are our testimony
31:16It's the small prayer
31:19For someone
31:21Perhaps we don't even know
31:23Or maybe we don't even like
31:25It's the sign of the cross
31:29When we're out in public
31:30You know
31:31You go to dinner
31:32Make that sign of the cross
31:34Say a little prayer
31:35Make sure
31:36People know
31:38Who you are
31:39And what's important
31:41The kind of
31:43Word of truth
31:44That we speak
31:45When we need to
31:46Our hands outstretched
31:50In charity
31:50As we live
31:53The good news
31:54In the name of the Father
31:56And of the Son
31:56And of the Holy Spirit
31:57Amen
32:05Let us now rise
32:10And together
32:10Profess our faith
32:12I believe
32:14In one God
32:15The Father
32:16The Almighty
32:16Maker of heaven and earth
32:18Of all that is seen
32:20And unseen
32:21I believe in one Lord
32:23Jesus Christ
32:24The only Son of God
32:26Eternally begotten
32:27Of the Father
32:28God from God
32:30Light from light
32:31True God
32:32From true God
32:33Begotten
32:34Not made
32:34Of one being
32:35With the Father
32:36Through him
32:37All things are made
32:39For us
32:39And for our salvation
32:41He came from heaven
32:43By the power
32:44Of the Holy Spirit
32:45He was born
32:46Of the Virgin Mary
32:47And became man
32:49For our sake
32:51He was crucified
32:52Under Pontius Pilate
32:54He suffered death
32:55And was buried
32:56On the third day
32:58He rose again
32:59In fulfillment
33:00Of the scriptures
33:01He ascended
33:02Into heaven
33:03And is seated
33:04At the right hand
33:05Of the Father
33:05He will come again
33:07In glory
33:08To judge the living
33:09And the dead
33:10And his kingdom
33:10Will have no end
33:12I believe
33:13In the Holy Spirit
33:14The Lord
33:15And giver of life
33:16Who proceeds
33:17From the Father
33:18With the Father
33:20And the Son
33:20He is worshipped
33:21And glorified
33:22He has spoken
33:23Through the prophets
33:24I believe
33:26In one
33:26Holy Catholic
33:28And apostolic church
33:29I acknowledge
33:30One baptism
33:31For the forgiveness
33:32Of sins
33:33I look for
33:34The resurrection
33:35Of the dead
33:35And the life
33:36Of the world
33:37To come
33:38Amen
33:39The Lord
33:45Be with you
33:46And also with you

40:53To a virgin's womb
40:54There he dwelt
40:56And was made flesh

43:32Our trespasses
43:33As we forgive those
43:35Who trespass against us
43:37And lead us not

44:04The cup of blessing
44:06Which we bless
44:07Is it not a participation
44:09In the blood of Christ
44:11The bread
44:12Which we break
44:14Is it not a participation
44:17In the body
44:18Of Christ
44:19Because there is
44:21One bread
44:22We who are many
44:23Are one body
44:24For we all partake
44:26Of the one bread
44:27May the union
44:28Of divinity
44:29And humanity

44:42But on the faith
44:43Of your church
44:43And grant us the peace
44:45And unity of your kingdom
