00:00Previously on Project Runway
00:03Fashion is news
00:05This is the fabric for your challenge
00:07Our materials is newspaper
00:09Yeah
00:10It's definitely risky doing a coat
00:12Because I don't know if the sleeves are going to happen or not
00:15Because what's going to happen is the birds are actually going to look like they're holding the dress up
00:18They look like the birds attacked the dress
00:20Irina, you are the winner of this challenge
00:28Thank you
00:29It was a red mess
00:31Thanks, Nicholas, that's really nice
00:32Throw me right into the bus
00:33Jerk
00:34That means, Johnny, you're out
00:36This is Project Runway
00:39Of course I'm the best
00:40Let's do this
00:42The search for the next big fashion designer
00:44I have to win
00:46You better watch out
00:4716 designers
00:48I'm in, you're out
00:50Don't get cut
00:51Three finalists will make it to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week
00:54I'm the best designer here
00:56I have no fear
00:57Make it work
00:58That's my one
00:59But only one can be the winner
01:01This is my dream
01:02For these 16 designers, Project Runway is the chance of a lifetime
01:07The winner of Project Runway will receive a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazines
01:12A Paris vacation courtesy of Avian and $100,000 from L'Oreal Paris to start their own line
01:19Here we go again
01:25I know
01:25It's kind of weird waking up and there's like two empty beds
01:28Oh, Malvin
01:29Oh, Johnny
01:30You know, I wish Johnny luck
01:32But I'm kind of glad that he's gone
01:35Because I think it makes the competition a little more serious for everyone
01:39I think it's going to be a lot quieter now
01:41You can focus on sign
01:43Not on comforting Johnny
01:44Yeah
01:45I'm sorry
01:45I'm not here to make real good friends
01:47I mean, I love all the people that I'm with
01:49But when it comes down to it
01:50I want to be in Pride Park
01:52Are you ready, Irina?
01:53The competition is definitely getting stiffer
01:56Of course I'd like to win again
01:57But in the next two or three challenges
01:59It's going to get real tough
02:01I don't even know what to think about the next challenge
02:04I was in the bottom tree on the west challenge
02:07I was shocked to tell you the truth
02:09Is it time to go?
02:10Let's go
02:11I'm terrified
02:12Hello
02:19Hi
02:20How are you all doing?
02:21Good
02:22Irina, you won the last challenge
02:24You have immunity this week and you cannot be eliminated
02:26I'm sure that you're ready to hear about your next challenge
02:30Thank you
02:30Well, we are in Los Angeles
02:32And it's about time to get you out of that sewing room
02:35To see what this town is most known for
02:38Movie making
02:39I am so excited
02:41I've done a lot of costumes for film
02:43This might be very, very interesting for me
02:46Tim is waiting for you at stage six
02:47To tell you about your next challenge
02:49Good luck
02:50And I'll see you on the runway
02:51Bye
02:51Designers, welcome to a real Hollywood soundstage
03:04It's pretty surreal to be at the soundstage
03:06It's kind of cool
03:07Please welcome Collier Strong
03:09Consulting makeup artist for L'Oreal Paris
03:11Collier is my partner in presenting you with today's challenge
03:14Tim has a velvet bag with him
03:17So we're wondering, is this a team challenge?
03:19What the hell's going on here?
03:21We are in Los Angeles
03:22The heart of the movie making industry
03:24This is where films and their characters come to life
03:27So for this challenge
03:28You will select a film genre
03:31And invent a character who lives in that genre
03:34I have five cinematic genres from which you are to choose
03:39They are action-adventure, film noir, science fiction, period piece, and western
03:45Oh god, what if I get stuck with western?
03:48Please, please, please don't get stuck with western
03:49Western would be a little bit tough for me because I'm not really American
03:54L'Oreal Paris and I have a long-standing history with Project Runway
03:58And we also have a long relationship with award-winning actresses
04:01Who have all played characters in every one of these genres
04:04So I'm here to help you bring these characters to life through makeup
04:08Irina, since you were the winner of the last challenge, you get to choose first
04:12You may choose any of these
04:13I think I'll go with film noir
04:15Excellent
04:16So for the remaining ten of you, we have two cards for each
04:20So as I call your name, come forward and please select one from Collier
04:24All right, Logan
04:25Action-adventure
04:27Carol Hanna
04:29Action-adventure
04:31All right, action-adventure is now gone, guys
04:34Roman
04:35Without a doubt, science fiction
04:37I grew up watching sci-fi
04:39I know all about Star Trek and Star Wars and everything in between
04:42So I think it's a good fit for me
04:44Louise
04:45I, of course, am going to pick film noir
04:47That has your name written all over it
04:48Oh, yeah
04:49Althea
04:50I also am going to pick film noir
04:53Jordana
04:54I like to take the period piece
04:55Nicholas
04:56Science fiction
04:57Christopher
04:58There's western and there's period piece
05:01I don't want to work with denim
05:03I don't want spurs
05:05I don't want to do a gingham dress
05:07Period piece
05:08We have two designers remaining and we have two westerns
05:12I have to do western
05:14Uhhh
05:15Cool, thanks
05:17I wanted period
05:18Oh, no
05:19But I was last again and I was stuck with western
05:22All right, designers
05:23Collier will be consulting with you later
05:25Yep
05:26And we're going back to the workroom to sketch
05:28Come on, everybody
05:29See you later
05:29All right, designers
05:39As I can tell you discovered
05:41There is a dossier for each of you according to your cinematic genre
05:44All right
05:45So you have 30 minutes to sketch
05:47Then we're going shopping at Mood
05:49Where you'll have a budget of $150
05:50And you have until midnight tonight to complete your look
05:54It's a one day challenge, which is crazy
05:57You're inventing a character
05:59Who is she?
06:00What does she do?
06:01And why is she wearing the clothes that she's wearing?
06:03Okay, everyone
06:04Your 30 minutes starts now
06:06I will be back
06:07Thank you
06:08At first I was like, western
06:13Mmm, John Wayne
06:15It just wasn't flowing
06:17You know, I just tried to figure out every female actress
06:20That was in a western movie
06:21And how to make her interesting
06:23Western, I mean
06:29We don't even have a cowboy hat
06:31So I decided to go a completely different route
06:34And do like a saloon girl
06:36I'm trying to think
06:37Saloon girl
06:37Red and black
06:38Or pink and black
06:39But I don't want to look like
06:40Like she's
06:41Who am I kidding?
06:42It is a costume
06:43I am doing
06:46Sexy assassin
06:48I know I can crank out a big giant dress really quickly
06:51But I really want to stretch myself in this challenge
06:53And do something else
06:54Do you want to see what I'm doing?
06:57Do I just do a pair of notes?
06:58I think it's beneficial for both of us
07:00No, I do too
07:00I think that Carol Hannah is the only female
07:03That I really connected with
07:04I don't know, mine's almost like military-esque
07:06Slash
07:07Like sword fighter
07:09She's been a lot of fun getting to know
07:11She's nice to have around
07:12I like it
07:13Yeah
07:13I don't know who decided that Logan and I
07:16Should have tables next to each other
07:18Because it is really distracting
07:20It was really hot
07:22I am a diehard Trekkie
07:29I am like totally fascinated by the idea of like science fiction
07:34I'm excited
07:35I am a daydreamer
07:37I daydream all the time
07:38And I'm always in faraway lands
07:40And fantasies and everything
07:41I think that's what separates me from the other designers
07:44Is I can bring in elements from the costume industry
07:47And mix them into my ready-to-wear
07:49When I think film noir
07:52I mean it's specific to the late 30s, early 40s
07:55I really like the sort of femme fatale woman
07:58Very sort of like classic, edgy
08:00From last challenge and coming into this one
08:03It reminded me of how good I am at doing these wow pieces
08:09Do I really need the immunity?
08:11I have a hunch that I could live without it right now
08:13A period piece can be some other era or time period
08:19Where there's an epic drama going
08:22I can choose the time period
08:25That could be the 80s
08:26It could be the Roman time
08:28I'm afraid the judges might not get my interpretation of period
08:32But I'm hoping that they're along for the ride
08:34All right designers
08:36Let's go to mood
08:38So you have your budget of $150
08:42And you have 30 minutes
08:44Okay, go, go, go
08:46Up until this point in the competition
08:51I have not been in the top three
08:53I have been, you know, in the bottom three
08:55I want to be experimental
08:57I want to be daring
08:59I'm going to do it
09:00$200 a yard is crazy
09:03Designers, 15 minutes
09:06I really want to go with a brocade
09:08Unfortunately, brocades are $30 a yard
09:11And I need seven yards
09:12So it's out of the question
09:14A 14, $3 in chair, six
09:16Five minutes
09:17This is $8 a yard
09:20Okay, that's a winner
09:22Let's do it, but five yards of it
09:23Oh, I need glue
09:24I can't reach it
09:25Somebody help
09:26That's it everybody, time
09:29Boom
09:29Thank you, mood
09:30Thank you
09:31We have
09:36We have to complete this challenge in one day
09:38Do I wish we had two days?
09:40Hell yeah, I do
09:41I love to have restored my body
09:43Everson, what would have been your first genre choice?
09:46Period
09:46I wanted period
09:48But I figured out a way to design western as a period
09:52Because western really is a period
09:54My concept is a beautiful lady
09:57And her husband's off to war
09:59And she has to take care of the land
10:02So she has to become a lot tougher
10:04Has anybody seen my pink and white scissors?
10:10I picked the twenties
10:11Because that was exactly the time
10:14Where the woman started getting more emancipated
10:17Does anybody have any extra bobbins?
10:19Like I purposely filled the bobbin up with this thread
10:22Because I need it
10:24Sabotage
10:25So guess what guys, I'm doing another white outfit
10:29Tell me your story
10:30There's three sort of queens who like watch over the universe
10:33And they all reside on Orion's belt
10:37One of them decides that she wants to rule the whole universe
10:41Is that your girl?
10:42Yeah, that's my girl
10:43That's freaking amazing
10:45My concept is to design a jumpsuit that depicts a human-alien hybrid
10:50Green, reptilian
10:52That's amazing
10:53I think I'm on a good path with this
10:55Oh, what the hell?
10:58Somebody took my damn bobbin
10:59I'm so tired of people doing that
11:01We've been dealing with that all day
11:02Who does this?
11:03I don't know
11:03The vibe in the workroom is a little bit more competitive
11:06Than it has been in the past
11:07You know, that's another factor in this whole competition
11:10Is there's talent, there's a little bit of luck
11:13And then there's can you take the pressure?
11:16Who is the evildoer?
11:18I think it's Sharyn
11:18It was Sharyn
11:19I am not the bobbin stealer
11:21I'm using black
11:22Why would I steal her green?
11:24This is like its own little detective movie
11:26What's your story, Louise?
11:34I'm not exactly sure yet
11:35I always think about that
11:38Like who I'm designing for
11:39Who my client is
11:40And I don't think she's really thought about it
11:43Still working on her story?
11:44Yeah
11:44Still working on that
11:46I am really worried for her
11:47Because I don't think she really has a concept
11:49You know, you can't just dilly-dally anymore
11:51Like you really need to know
11:52What your point of view is
11:53Coming up on Project Runway
11:58This could be sublime
12:00Or it could be a big hot mess
12:02Are you thinking this is a little too safe?
12:04At the moment, yeah
12:05Oh my god
12:06Oh my god
12:06I want you to look around this room
12:08Somebody's going home
12:09Looking around the room
12:21There's a lot of talent still here
12:22So I think what it's going to come down to
12:24Is who interprets the challenge the best
12:27I am nervous, nervous, nervous
12:31Because I still have a lot of applique to do
12:33You know I still have to stitch all that on
12:35Right?
12:36Oh, I see that
12:37No
12:37Come on
12:38I just want to send down the runway
12:41Everything perfect
12:42As long as you love it
12:44And you know you did what you wanted to do
12:46Then it's just a matter of style
12:48I mean, a matter of taste
12:49The bottom line is
12:51I have to be confident
12:52But you never know with the judges, so
12:54Designers, I'm here to check in with you
12:56I'm going to start with Jordana
12:58Here's Jordana
12:59It's period pace
13:00The 20s
13:01She discovers oil
13:02And this is the first time
13:04That she's coming out in a society
13:05How old is she?
13:06She's in her 30s
13:08On that topic
13:09We need to make it a little bit higher up
13:11Higher?
13:12Do you think?
13:13I'm thinking lower
13:14I just don't see Jordana being in Brian Park
13:17The rest of us are on a different sort of level
13:19And she
13:20I don't think she could compete with that
13:22Thank you, Jordana
13:23Thank you
13:23Okay
13:24Christopher
13:25Hey, Tim
13:26Talk to me
13:27There's this vampire bride
13:29Okay
13:29Alright, it's the 1800s
13:31It's Paris, France
13:31The bustle's very Victorian
13:33I would reference that
13:34Okay
13:35The top is going to be this halter
13:37She has bare arms
13:38Yeah
13:39I mean, I love everything about this
13:42I really do
13:43But that's not very Victorian
13:45Very Victorian
13:46For 1800s
13:47Tim is truly a mentor
13:50He'll try to steer you in the right direction
13:52Without telling you exactly what you should do
13:54Thank you, Tim
13:55Epperson
13:56All I can say is
13:58Annie, get your gun
13:59Great
14:00Okay, great
14:01That's it
14:02You know, I was a little concerned about ruffles being too
14:06Something else other than western
14:08The ruffles have such a profound visual impact
14:11I mean, I'm really seduced by them
14:13Carry on
14:14Yes, yes
14:14I will
14:15Thank you
14:15Ramon
14:16Hello, Tim
14:17Talk to me
14:17I'm going to do a jumpsuit
14:19I want to get it so that the fabric itself almost looks skin-like
14:24It does
14:24This could be sublime
14:26Or it could be a big hot mess
14:28I do like to think outside of the box
14:32It's really costume-based
14:33So why go safe with it?
14:35You have a lot of work ahead of you
14:36Yes, I do
14:37I will leave you alone
14:38Thank you, Ramon
14:39Thank you so much
14:40Louise
14:41Hi, Tim
14:42So talk to me
14:43This is the underslip of the dress
14:45Okay
14:46And the sheath is actually going to look like this
14:50With mitered pieces of this lace
14:52Beautiful
14:52Let me tell you this
14:53What I love most about you
14:55Is what you can achieve with subtlety and nuance
14:58That does not hold up very well on the runway
15:01Some of my designs are minimal
15:04They're not standing out amongst the crowd
15:06I need to pull out all the stops and make it show-worthy
15:09Take the DNA that you have as a designer
15:13And push it
15:15Thank you, Tim
15:16Nicholas
15:17Hi, Tim
15:18Talk to me
15:19So I'm obviously doing western
15:20Obviously
15:24Obviously
15:25No, I'm doing sci-fi fantasy
15:27Okay
15:28My character, she's a villain
15:30A villain in white
15:31Yes
15:32What I love about this piece is mainly the collar
15:34Because the light is going to shine through it
15:36I want you to exaggerate
15:38Okay
15:38What you want to do
15:40Are you thinking this is a little too safe?
15:42At the moment, yeah
15:43I totally get it
15:44I can go much bigger
15:45Do it
15:46Okay
15:46Sounds good
15:47Thank you, Tim
15:48Thank you
15:48Designers, I am enthralled and inspired by what each one of you is doing
15:54But I'm also reminded somebody's going home
15:56So I want you to look around this room and assess where your own work is in relation to other designers
16:03And just be as ambitious as you can be
16:07I'm a little worried about Zermon
16:09When I think of sci-fi, I think of beautiful queens and really gorgeous women
16:13You know, not Godzilla
16:15But I can't wait to see what the results would be
16:18I am about to send in your models
16:20They are here for two simultaneous purposes
16:24L'Oreal Paris makeup consultations with Collier Strong
16:27And fittings with you
16:29I'm sending them in
16:31Yeah, you're probably like, what the hell is going on?
16:37No, I'm excited
16:38Get it, fit it
16:43And then I got all kind of leather
16:45Oh
16:45Hi
16:46I'm walking into the consultation with Kaylin for her look
16:49Bless you, success
16:50I mean, the makeup is key in this challenge
16:54We're doing film noir
16:55Fantastic
16:56It's a very dark eye
16:58And a very high, thin, raised brow
17:00That's beautiful
17:01It's very fantasy
17:04It's a costume challenge
17:06But it's also a L'Oreal challenge
17:08The whole thing should be just like, it just dusted
17:10She looks like, just right out of a fantasy
17:13I really need your help with 20s era makeup
17:18It's a classic look
17:19Very sexy, very dark, red lip
17:22That's it, thank you so much
17:23And so what did you have in your mind?
17:26Something harsh
17:27Yeah, but sexy, right?
17:29Really dramatic, really bold
17:31Awesome, thank you
17:33Yay!
17:33This is looking very Kermit the Frog gone wrong
17:45Oh, I don't think this is going to work out
17:48I think I'm in trouble
17:49It's just not what I thought it would be
17:54I think I need to make a dress
17:55I don't know about it
17:57I'm going to have the body suit
17:58Or a coat
18:00Or a vest kind of thing
18:02Coat
18:02Yeah, I don't know
18:05Unfortunately, with two hours left
18:08You need to start from scratch
18:10I'm going to let you work it out
18:12Okay
18:12I trust that it's going to be gorgeous
18:14Yeah, I hope so
18:16It will be
18:17Thanks, honey
18:17It's not like there's another option
18:19I have to do it
18:21You have something in your mind
18:32And it doesn't come to fruition
18:34I sure am
18:38I have no other choice
18:40I can't send something
18:41That's absolutely insanely horrible
18:44Down the runway
18:45This is one of the most difficult things
18:48I've been through so far in my life
18:50The challenges are getting more and more difficult
18:52And, you know, I know I've almost lost it a couple of times
18:56Oh my God
18:57Oh my God
18:58You know, other designers
18:59You can really tell
19:00It's really getting to them also
19:02I'm a little stressed
19:03I'm not going to lie
19:04I just have a lot to do
19:06In a short period of time
19:08I'm just going to make the best darn saloon dress I can
19:12And hope that I'm still here tomorrow
19:14Ow
19:15Are you okay?
19:20Ow, ow, ow, ow
19:20When you're rushing around last minute
19:22There are always going to be cuts and scrapes and bruises
19:25And that went right through my fingernail
19:27But it's all been worth it
19:28I think I have a really pretty dress
19:30I really hope that I'm in the top three for this one
19:33And then this will have my pieces that go up
19:36I like that
19:37Yeah
19:38It's cool
19:38I totally have to save it
19:40You know you can do it
19:41If I'm going to go home off of this challenge
19:44I want to give it a fight
19:45Oh, God
19:46But I can only do what I have time to do
19:49We're done
19:50Let's go home
19:51Let's go
19:55Coming up on Project Only
20:00Move it
20:02Workroom is pretty crazy this morning
20:05There's no turning back at this point
20:06It's too late
20:07People are getting really cranky
20:09Seriously, no talking, working
20:11It's morning on the runway
20:28And I am pretty panicked
20:30Because my dress is not completed at all
20:32I will give you my newborn
20:33For a hot glue gun right now
20:34You know who has a hot glue gun?
20:36There's a Donna
20:37What do you have left to do on your dress?
20:40Do you have a lot to do?
20:41I was hoping I will be able to make like a cigarette holder
20:44But I have enough to worry about finishing everything
20:47I don't want to think about anything else, you know
20:50So the first thing that Tim Gunn says
20:56Is this could be sensational
20:58Or it could be a hot mess
20:59I changed my design
21:01Because I feel like
21:02I need to take it to the next level
21:04As Tim put it
21:05Ready?
21:07Girls are ready?
21:08Let's go
21:09All right
21:10Workroom is pretty crazy this morning
21:24Just finalizing everything
21:27To get my final look finished
21:29I know that the judges are going to love my design
21:33I don't think I'm going to be in the top three
21:37I feel like I'll rank somewhere in the middle
21:40Mostly because I chose to take a risk
21:43I'm happy with the design
21:44But it's not exactly what I envisioned
21:47But it's too late
21:48There's no turning back at this point
21:50Good morning designers
21:52As you know, your models are here
21:54So you have two hours
21:55To send them to the Garnier hair studio
21:57In the Laurier Paris makeup room
21:59Use the Macy's accessory wall thoughtfully
22:01All right
22:02Work like there's no tomorrow
22:03Because for one of you, there won't be
22:05All right
22:06I'll see you later
22:07Time was not on our side in this challenge
22:15A lot of dresses are like halfway done
22:18People are getting really cranky
22:20Please Lord
22:23Let me not sew my fingers together today
22:24All right
22:24Seriously
22:25No talking
22:26Working
22:26The 20s are very much into accessories
22:31So that's the huge part of my challenge
22:34It looks so simple
22:36But it took me forever to make
22:37Trust me
22:38I've worked through this material before
22:40I know exactly what you're talking about
22:41This is really going to be a tough one
22:45I think this is going to be the toughest for the judges
22:47Because everybody really stuck to their movie genres
22:51I think you can see my signature work in the garment
22:54So I totally doubt if I'm going home today
22:57I think you could hit some of this with a little bit of sheen there
23:03Okay
23:04Is there any way that you could like trim the back of that?
23:07That's a great idea
23:07I just want volume
23:09Oh, you're beautiful
23:10I mean, damn
23:11That's cool
23:12Designers, 10 minutes
23:14We are walking to the runway
23:15All right
23:16All right
23:17Rally
23:17Looking around the room
23:25It looks like
23:25Rahman is really stressed out
23:27Because I know he started his outfit
23:29Two hours before we left
23:31The night before
23:31And Irina was also really hurting to get her dress together
23:36Move it
23:37Damn
23:40You're like accident prone
23:42Designers and models
23:43The time has come
23:45We've got to go, Irina
23:47I finished it in the final seconds
23:50But I could have, of course, worked on it for another five hours if I could
23:53Thank you
23:54Coming up on Project Runway
23:58I really don't like the dress
24:00It's too safe
24:01It's not special enough
24:02I'm bored
24:03It looks like a snooze fest
24:05Hello
24:12Welcome to the runway
24:15As you know, in fashion, one day you're in
24:17And the next day, you're out
24:19There are 11 of you here
24:21And after tonight, there will be 10
24:22This week, you chose a movie genre
24:25And were asked to create a character
24:27And their look from that genre
24:29You had $150 in one day to put it together
24:32I look forward to seeing what you've done
24:35All right, let's meet the judges
24:37First, we have American designer, John Vavados
24:40Editor for Marie Claire Magazine, Zoe Glasner
24:45And Oscar-nominated costume designer, Ariane Phillips
24:50Welcome
24:51We will score your designs as they come down the runway
24:55One of you will be named the winner
24:57And one of you will be out
24:59Let's start the show
25:02Caitlin looks like a film noir actress
25:08She looks like she just stepped off a set
25:10I am so happy that she's able to do that
25:13Because it needs that
25:14It's a costume
25:15And I just want to run up and give her a big kiss
25:17As my garment is coming down the runway
25:21It hits serious
25:23Wow
25:23As soon as she takes the jacket off
25:25It just looks really good
25:26It's really hot
25:27This is a pretty big stretch for me
25:30So I'm happy that I was able to pull it off
25:32I'm watching my model, Ebony, walk down the runway
25:37And I told her to give it a little dance
25:39She goes all out
25:41It looks really good
25:42Everything seems to just pop
25:44And just look amazing
25:45My garment really created this pride
25:52And Katie was able to put forth
25:55What this woman would look like on the runway
25:57I've really taken something that could still stand
26:00As a piece in my own runway show
26:02Watching Celine walking down the runway
26:06It definitely is me
26:08And it did tell a story
26:09But I really pushed the envelope
26:11And I'm nervous
26:12Because it could go either way
26:14I could completely bomb
26:15Or I could actually win this
26:17I definitely feel like I've created a film noir outfit
26:23And stayed true to that sort of feeling
26:26The era, the 40s
26:27Tenesha is playing the role so well
26:30It really seems like a movie instead of a catwalk
26:33As she's walking down the runway
26:36There's this feeling of joy
26:37The placement of certain things
26:40Isn't exactly what I wanted
26:42So I just have to be able to convey my story to the judges
26:46I think it's a really pretty dress
26:52But it's just not as show-stopping as some of the others
26:55I wanted to do 40s and mix little 20s in with it
26:58But it just didn't come across well as either one of the time periods
27:02I'm totally excited
27:07Matara, she was like amazing
27:08Such a nice connection
27:10And we both just ran with it
27:12You could see that she was a tattered western lady from that time
27:16I'm proud of what I put out there
27:18I definitely have created the character that I wanted to create
27:25I am very confident and I'm very happy with the outcome
27:29But you never know with the judges
27:30I love how powerful the look is
27:37And you really know that she's been in battle
27:39But if I was going for something that was going to be dramatic on the runway
27:42And I feel like I did that
27:43If I call your name, please step forward
27:50Logan
27:51Callahana
27:54Sharon
27:56Irina
27:58Althea
28:01If I have called your name
28:04Congratulations
28:05Your scores have qualified you to move on to the next challenge
28:09You can leave the runway
28:10The remaining designers have the highest and the lowest scores
28:18One of you will be named the winner
28:21And one of you will be out
28:22Let's bring out your models
28:25Okay, I would like to start with Jordana
28:33My challenge was to do a time period
28:37Obviously I chose the flapper style, the 20s
28:40You can see there's a lot of work and a lot of detail put into it
28:44I don't know that it's a signature piece of her own
28:48I too question the specialness
28:52I'm just not sure that it's as memorable as maybe it could have been
28:57Okay
28:58There's no doubt, Jordana, of your skill as a dressmaker
29:01The one thing that I don't see from that is how that differs from my great-grandmother's dress
29:05I don't feel that you brought anything new to the table
29:09What I don't see is your eyes, your point of view
29:12I see your hands, but not your eyes
29:14Okay
29:15Nicolas
29:17Your genre was science fiction
29:19Tell us about your character
29:20She is one of the three sister queens who control the universe
29:24And is thinking about overthrowing the other two sisters
29:27Unfortunately, the other two sisters find out
29:29And they batish her to a crypt where she's frozen for eternity
29:33Well, I love your story
29:36I think you really got into the character
29:38You did a great job of taking this evil queen and making her beautiful
29:42I think it's fabulous
29:43I knew exactly who she was
29:45I said, oh, it's the ice queen
29:46Working on a film, you need to work closely with the makeup people
29:50So obviously you did and you really thought about it
29:53I'm sure this will photograph beautifully
29:55So well done
29:56It's so cool, Nicolas
29:58I really, really like it
29:59I wrote clever, bold, and risky
30:01Thank you so much
30:02Thank you
30:03Okay, Louise, tell us about your character
30:06Your genre was film noir
30:08I wanted to make her an aspiring film actress
30:11She's going to an industry party
30:14Where it was expected that they were to dress in costume
30:17As another decade
30:18So she's going as like a 40s version of a flapper
30:22I think it's interesting that you have a decade within a decade
30:25And for me, that's what this looks like
30:27A little bit of a convoluted mess
30:29I just think it looks a little cheap
30:31And this is going to sound harsh
30:32But it looks a little like a French maid uniform
30:33Or something like in a plastic bag at the store
30:35The fabric doesn't look luxe to me
30:37It looks like a snooze fest
30:39I'm bored
30:40I just am not in love with this look
30:42It doesn't come across special at all
30:44I'm sure you put a lot of work into it
30:46But if it was supposed to be something for a film
30:49There's nothing strong about it
30:51And the detail doesn't read
30:52And it doesn't seem to have a style to me
30:55Well, I appreciate your criticism
30:57Because I've been wanting to get on stage
30:58Whether or not I was in the top or bottom
31:00Just so I could hear like
31:01I just think those kind of challenges
31:03Where you can be more innovative
31:05You know, it's for a movie
31:06And you have the freedom of thinking about
31:09The most craziest character
31:10As you please
31:12Okay
31:12Christopher, your genre was a period piece
31:17First of all, I'm not a history major
31:19So get ready for the historical inaccuracies
31:21Alright, she's at her wedding day
31:24And she has to make a big decision at that moment
31:27She has a secret
31:29And that's she's a vampire
31:30She could get married
31:31And curse her husband
31:33By turning him into a vampire
31:34Or she could run away
31:37And never see him again
31:38And therefore hurt him as well
31:40Well, first of all
31:41I really like the way you think
31:42Because when you're starting off a collection
31:44You want to kind of create your own story
31:46Your own muse
31:46And you did that very well here
31:48Very, very strong
31:49Thank you
31:49I think it's really well done
31:51That neck is so elegant
31:52I love the gems
31:54I think it's so exquisite
31:55And I love that you made it modern in a way
31:58Like something that I haven't seen before
32:00There's wow factor with this piece
32:02And that detail in the back for me is fabulous
32:04Because we can't forget the over-the-shoulder shots
32:07And that would just be a fabulous exiting out of the church
32:10It's definitely worthy of being photographed for film
32:14Thank you
32:14Roman
32:16Your genre was science fiction
32:18Yes
32:19Her name is Lola
32:20She has left her home planet
32:22Where all of her people are reptiles
32:24To come to earth
32:25And is going to this fabulous party
32:27To quench her insatiable desire for men
32:31I like the story
32:34I like that you really thought about it
32:37But I really don't like the dress
32:39It looks to me a little like Swamp Thing
32:42B-movie or something
32:43I wrote down shoddily made
32:45Well to give you credit you took sci-fi
32:48It's not an easy area to design for
32:50But after that you missed the hallmark
32:52It looks a little bit like a school project
32:54Hot green mess
32:55That was definitely not what I was going after
32:58You're a good designer
32:59I mean we've seen some great things from you
33:01It's just really hard to see that you can actually sew in this outfit
33:04Yeah
33:05Roman I sympathize with you
33:07You chose one of the hardest materials to work with
33:09Leather
33:10You sabotaged yourself a little bit
33:12With biting off such a big project
33:14I will be honest
33:16I did have a design before
33:17And it failed me
33:19So I decided to change my design
33:21You know I really want to like it
33:23Because I think that you thought perhaps
33:26In a more ambitious way
33:27Than other people did in this challenge
33:29So I appreciate that
33:31Thank you
33:31Ephrassan
33:33Your genre was western
33:35Tell us about your character
33:36This character
33:38Her husband went up to fight
33:40Like for the war
33:42Since he went away
33:43She's taking care of the cattle
33:45The land
33:46Her children
33:47There's a gun under here somewhere
33:49Just in case
33:50And she's just really like in charge
33:52And just like naturally beauty
33:54And tattered at the same time
33:56I think it's just fabulous
33:58It's very creative
33:59I really appreciated that you thought outside the box
34:02Obviously women didn't wear denim dresses at that time
34:05But it works
34:06This certainly has bravado
34:08And she's not to be messed with
34:10I appreciate that
34:12Can I see the back?
34:13Sure
34:13This is great
34:15This feels like it has a real contemporary value
34:18I mean I could put her on a runway
34:19And it would be something that people would want to wear
34:22Thank you so much
34:23When you get something like western
34:25Like maybe that feels like the short end
34:27You know
34:27It feels like the small straw
34:28It was handed to me
34:29I didn't even get to choose it
34:30And you're thinking
34:31Oh no
34:31What am I going to do?
34:32How am I going to make this work?
34:33I love the layers
34:34I love the fabric choices
34:36And I love the styling
34:38I think they both nailed it
34:39The minute you walked out
34:41Matar you can manage my farm anytime
34:44What is nice about it really is
34:47You created something new
34:48And I think that is what is important about a designer
34:50Is that you do something that you have not seen before
34:53Very good job
34:54Thank you
34:55Okay we've heard what you had to say
34:57We're going to have a little chat
34:58And then we're going to call you back
34:59You can leave the runway
35:00Let's talk first about the ones that we didn't like so much
35:10Yeah
35:10Jordana
35:11Flapper flapper
35:13I thought it was thoughtful
35:15I just didn't think it was special enough
35:17If you think about period piece
35:19I mean you could have made some amazing other choices than a flapper
35:22But I think the things that stood out today
35:25Were the people who were dreamers
35:26When they really looked at
35:28Who their character was going to be
35:30That's what was lacking in the flapper dress
35:32No surprises
35:33Let's talk about Louise
35:38I was really disappointed with Louise's dress
35:41I just felt like it didn't say anything
35:43And I thought that she missed the challenge
35:45Yeah I just
35:46I think you're right
35:47It wasn't memorable
35:48It really missed it for me
35:50It wasn't really
35:51I'm standing out here on the runway
35:52And I'm going to show you my best
35:54And I think every time everybody stands up here
35:56It should be putting their best foot forward
35:58Exactly
35:58Okay let's talk about Ramon
36:03It was a shambles really
36:05I mean I hate to say it
36:07It looked like staple glued together
36:09It sounds like he had scrapped an initial idea
36:12And done this in a haste
36:13You know I'm sympathetic to him
36:14Because I felt like I saw some creativity there
36:18And some ideas
36:19He had a really good story
36:21Ramon definitely had more of a vision than Louise
36:24And it was a risky idea
36:26Yeah
36:26But I really do think it was like a little swamp thing
36:29Risky and ambitious
36:30But unfortunately no banana
36:33Let's talk about the designers that we did like
36:40Let's talk about Nicolas
36:42He loves white and lace
36:45And it has not really worked in other challenges
36:47But today it worked
36:49Fabric looked cheap with the naked eye
36:51But I think that that fabric would photograph much more expensive than it looks
36:55There's a lot of things when you actually see costumes
36:58They just don't look expensive
36:59But on the camera they look great
37:02The detail on that garment was spectacular
37:05Yeah
37:05He really got to do what he loves today
37:07And it's show us something we haven't seen
37:10If you would watch that movie
37:11You would go home
37:12And you'd be like
37:12Wow that was such a beautiful dress
37:14That the evil queen was wearing
37:15Let's talk about Epperson
37:20He's very interesting and very creative
37:23So romantic
37:24His story was good
37:25Yeah
37:25And she was great with it too
37:27Yeah she's amazing
37:28The whole combination was pretty terrific
37:31And the belt and the holster
37:33And all those little details
37:34I thought it was really cool
37:36He didn't actually pick
37:38Western
37:38The genre Western
37:39And he's like
37:40Okay this is what I have to do now
37:41Even though I might not like it
37:43I'm really going to give it some
37:44And he really did
37:46He did a great job
37:47That's for sure
37:48Yeah
37:48Okay let's talk about Christopher
37:53Perfection
37:54It looked as beautiful in back
37:55As it did in front
37:56Perfection
37:56It was
37:57And for a costume
37:58It needs to look great
37:59From every angle
38:00Yeah
38:00And it really did
38:01He made this costume
38:03For a hundred and fifty dollars
38:04Wow that's amazing
38:05That's impressive
38:07I was pretty blown away
38:08With his eye
38:09To pull those pieces together
38:11Christopher made something

38:22One of you will be named the winner
38:32And one of you
38:34Will be out
38:36One of you will be named the winner

39:05Nicolas
39:12You are the winner of this challenge
39:16Thank you
39:19Your ice queen
39:20Blew us away
39:21You really used your time
39:23To produce something memorable
39:24And exquisite
39:25Your fantasy outfit
39:27Also matched your story
39:28And both
39:29Were equally impressive
39:31Thank you
39:32You also have immunity
39:33For the next challenge
39:34And cannot be eliminated
39:35You can leave the runway
39:37Thank you
39:38Oh my god
39:39It is absolutely amazing
39:40The judges loved it
39:42Somebody even called me an artist
39:43If I say so myself
39:44Hey guys
39:46Wow
39:48I'm only seeing right now
39:50Brian Park and $100,000
39:51I'm here to win this competition
39:54And nothing's going to stop me
39:55Christopher
39:57Good job
39:58You're in
39:59You can leave the runway
40:00Roman
40:07Luis
40:10One of you will be out
40:12Roman
40:15This dress missed the mark
40:18This garment was a home-sewn mess
40:21Your character may have been out of this world
40:23But what planet was she from?
40:25There were some glimmers of creativity in your story
40:28But your execution was unacceptable
40:31Luis
40:33A lot of times we say too costumy as a criticism
40:37But in your case
40:39You could have used more drama
40:40This dress didn't give us any sense of who your film character was
40:44It was unfortunately a snooze fest
40:48Roman
40:51Yes
40:52You're out
40:58That means Luis you're in
41:06You can leave the runway
41:07That's what you say
41:08Thank you
41:20Thank you so much
41:22This has been an absolute honor
41:24Thank you
41:25I was given an opportunity that a lot of people would kill for
41:32And I'm really grateful for that
41:33Roman
41:34You're a fabulous designer and a fabulous person
41:37I hate telling you that you have to go to the workroom to clean up your space
41:40But you do
41:40I came here to be a strong designer with a point of view
41:45And also to be a competitor
41:47And so I can leave with a smile on my face
41:50And a genuine one at that
41:52Next week on Project Runway
41:56All I can tell you is that your next challenge will be quite colorful
42:00For this challenge you will be working in teams of two
42:03Wah wah
42:05You don't want to overdo it
42:06Team challenges are a pain in the neck
42:08I'd rather just do it myself
42:09You don't think it's too plain
42:11She doesn't give me any direction
42:13She just says I don't like it
42:14Oh my god
42:16So much stress
42:17One or more of you will be out
42:19No modern girl wants to wear that dress
42:22I don't know what is worse
42:23The pumpkin disco ball or the shower curtain nightie
42:25Did you really think they went together?
42:28They don't
