00:00Did you know that the world's largest ball of twine is located in Kansas?
00:04That's right, and it weighs nearly 20,000 pounds.
00:08Back in 1951, a man named Frank Stober began wrapping twine around a baseball bat and a tire iron.
00:16He did this every day for the next 35 years, adding 12 to 18 layers of twine per day.
00:23The ball just kept growing and growing until it was so big that it couldn't be moved.
00:27So, in 1986, Frank had the idea to put the ball on display at a local gas station.
00:34And that's where it remains to this day.
00:36The ball of twine has become such a popular tourist attraction that there's a gift shop and a cafe nearby.
00:43And people come from all over the world to see it.
00:46I mean, how could you not?
00:48It's almost like a giant, a giant ball of yarn.
00:51It just, it makes you want to knit.
00:53Now, you might be wondering, why didn't Frank just use a bigger ball to begin with?
00:59Or why didn't he use a machine to wrap the twine around the ball?
01:04Well, to answer that question, we went straight to the source.
01:07We traveled to Kansas and we bought one of the twines that Frank used to make the ball.
01:12And let me tell you, it's really tough to wrap this thing around anything.
01:15It takes two people just to get it off the ground, so I can only imagine what it would have been like for Frank to do it all by hand.
01:23The man was a legend.
01:25And here's another fun fact about the ball of twine.
01:29Every year, the local high school students come and they try to break it into pieces.
01:34They bring hammers and saws and everything they can find to try to destroy the ball, but it's never been able to be broken.
01:41It's just too strong.
01:42So if you're ever near Kansas, I highly recommend checking out the world's largest ball of twine.
01:49You can take a picture with it, touch it, maybe even try to break it.
01:53Who knows?
01:54You might just be the one to do it.
01:57That's all for now.
01:58See you next time.
