00:00Did you know that in Montana, there are more cows than people? That's right.
00:04The state of Montana has a larger population of cattle than it does human residents.
00:09In fact, cattle outnumber humans nearly three to one. Montana is known for its vast open spaces,
00:16rugged mountains, and, of course, its abundant wildlife, including a whole lot of cows.
00:22As of the 2020 census, Montana had a population of about 1,900,000 people.
00:30But according to the USDA, there are about 3 million cattle in the state.
00:35That means that for every 100 people in Montana, there are almost 300 cows.
00:41Now, this isn't anything new. Montana has had more cows than people for quite some time,
00:47and it's not surprising that this trend is continuing.
00:51After all, Montana is one of the top five states for cattle production.
00:55So it only makes sense that there are more cows than people.
00:59But why do people keep getting cows when they know there's already more cows than people?
01:05Well, it's because we love beef, dairy, and leather products.
01:09And Montana is a great place to raise cattle.
01:12The state has plenty of open-range land where cows can graze, and the climate is perfect for raising cattle.
01:18Not to mention Montana has a strong agricultural economy.
01:22So it's no wonder that cattle ranching is a popular industry in the state.
01:26Now, don't get me wrong, people aren't going extinct in Montana.
01:30In fact, the human population is growing faster than the cow population.
01:34But with so many cows already in the state, it'll be a long time before people outnumber cattle in Montana.
01:40So if you ever visit Montana, be prepared to see a lot of cows.
01:44And if you're a cattle rancher in Montana, I salute you.
01:48You're helping to put food on our tables and keep our leather products industry alive.
01:52Just kidding.
01:53I don't know how many of you are actually watching this from a phone made of wood.
