00:00Did you know that Kansas is flatter than a pancake?
00:03In 2008, a scientific study was conducted to determine the average elevation of a pancake.
00:10The study used a light table and a camera to capture the surface of the pancake as it was being cooked.
00:16The results were then compared to the elevation map of Kansas.
00:19And guess what? Kansas is flatter than the pancake.
00:22But why is Kansas so flat?
00:24It's because over millions of years, water has eroded away the tops of mountains and filled in the low areas, creating a flat plain.
00:35This process is called deposition.
00:38Fun fact, deposition also created the Great Lakes.
00:42As water levels rose and fell over time, they left behind large deposits of sediment, which we now call sand dunes.
00:50So next time you're in Kansas, be sure to look out for the pancakes.
00:53They're everywhere.
00:54Thanks for watching.
00:55See you next time.
