00:17are going to the super bowl we are days away from the opener and what could be better than to hear

00:31this one willard i am a control freak the floor is yours the red and gold summit is down
00:40let's go yeah let's go yeah all right so there's two things to say first the red and gold
00:52summit is here and thank you and steiny is not steiny is not here so the red and gold summit is
01:01underway you all have an assignment which is to boo him when he gets here he's on his way he's on
01:07his way but anyway no we always start this with a just a heartfelt thank you to each and every one of
01:13you who found time in your thursday to make your way here to westfield valley fair and king's fish
01:20house and join us here we love these events thank you so much from all of us here at 95 7 the game

02:13what's up buddy how you doing i'm all right good to see you we're gonna dive right into this
02:19obviously thank you also to our wonderful host today king's fish house this has been awesome
02:25already they'll be playing all the games all year long so it's a great place to grab some oysters at
02:31the oyster bar you see the great menu grab anything on there and catch your favorite team but of course
02:37most of you are here because your favorite team is the 49ers so with no delay we're gonna dive right
02:44in to question number one everybody and that is how many wins do you think the niners are going to
02:50have and why and i'm going to start over here in the morning and start with joe shaski take it away oh
02:59my gosh you're gonna make me come out and be like the mr pessimist you lead off this is so unfair
03:04all right well you already took off your jersey you're wearing a jersey it's very very very warm
03:09i'm used to the fog and the overcast i was wearing a cotton shirt with a jersey i sweat through it
03:15already and i had to go buy a 20 macy's off the rack shirt because i was sweating bullets and you
03:21chose pink which is amazing well it's the new color at the stage thank you um what are the matters
03:29they do i think high water mark is double digit wins i really do high water mark everything goes well
03:34you know their offensive line comes together the running game and christian mccaffrey he's healthy
03:39brian robinson's a great addition ricky pearsall looks like a stud the defense is a work in progress
03:45they get better as the year goes on which is what my template is they win 10 maybe 11 things go well
03:52maybe jimmy g's playing for the rams maybe stafford doesn't win every game and and the niners aren't one
03:59in five in division like they were last year you know they were six and nine when brock purdy started
04:04game so i'm gonna say high water mark 10 maybe 11 wins low water mark i think at minimum this should
04:10be a seven or eight win team even if all goes goes to hell in a half a basket if you will um i still
04:17think this team has enough talent top and premium hall of fame level talent to win seven or eight games
04:22all right on to joe spedoni i mean that was such a political answer he didn't even say what i like
04:28the number of wins what are we doing here how can we know we didn't see we barely saw anyone in the
04:34preseason how how could anyone have a feel for what this team is i'll tell you they have 16 new
04:39starters they're playing a bunch of scrub teams that's how they're playing the saints who stink
04:43they're playing the jaguars who stink they're playing the panthers who stink they're going to
04:46win at least 10 games i'm saying 10 games they're going to win and they're going to get in
04:50in a wide open nfc it's the eagles and then everybody else and even the eagles have question
04:55marks as far as i'm concerned everyone's just kind of shoehorn them in if the super bowl no i'm not
04:59doing that 10 wins for the niners they're getting the playoffs 10 wins okay 10 is the number i like
05:04the definition people come on go if we can get you to focus on the niners even though your boys are
05:11teeing off here in about an hour uh how many wins for the 49ers this year and why all right before i go
05:18and i love everybody that showed up we love you but my fourth grade teacher miss gilbert is here
05:23let's give her a random applause yes she started the 143 hey fourth grade that's a while ago y'all
05:32miss gilbert was was goo a pain in the rear or was he a good student okay two thumbs up okay all right
05:38here we go okay so to spadoni's point when you win six games like the niners did i think to myself
05:44how much of that consisted of bad football and injuries and it was a lot of both right but at
05:51times i've criticized kyle but also given him and lynch and the team their flowers in regard to what
05:56they've built so for me to come in here all the way from the you know 880 park the ride and not give
06:03them the benefit of the doubt with bosa warner freshly new paid brock purdy and what shasky said
06:11mccaffrey healthy i gotta give them 10 and 7 i gotta give them 10 wins until we see otherwise
06:17last year 10 wins did not get the seahawks into the playoffs i'm just letting you guys know but last
06:22year at this time i was saying it's a super bowl for sure so i'm just trying to be spadoni shook his
06:28forward number willard ass i'm gonna go 10 yeah 10 10 did not get the seahawks in it also won the
06:34division though so um all right steini what's what's the number and why here we go well i'll
06:40tell you what i listened to the interview with uh hushmanzada on the way over and he was pretty
06:45optimistic it sounded like about the 49ers coaching he pointed to coaching a lot earlier in the day
06:50i picked 10 and i'm gonna stick with 10 and uh the reason i'm gonna stick with 10 is because
06:59the schedule first and foremost and then secondly their offense should be pretty good their defense
07:07should probably get better over the course of the season and did i mention their schedule you might
07:14have yeah so there it is here's the other thing you you look at the ram schedule for example
07:19like they play some really tough games they play schedule yeah exactly so if if 10 and 7 should
07:27probably put you in the mix to win the division i would think would you guys agree that this is the
07:33hardest team to put your finger on in the last four years for the niners absolutely there's so many
07:38unknowns since 2019 exactly we don't even know half the secondary right now we haven't seen any of the
07:44rookie defensive linemen really pop at any point we don't know who's going to be their guard right now
07:49could be connor colby could be ben barge we have zero clue about christian mccaffrey i think if we all
07:54knew mccaffrey plays 15 games and looks something like what he's used to looking like we'd have a
08:00better feel for what they're going to be um you know what let's get to the mccaffrey thing in a
08:04little bit because the idea that we have zero clue like anybody can get hurt and and and people coming
08:10off injuries maybe it's different he's at a phenomenal camp he looks fantastic at camp so i don't i don't
08:17know but mark beyond history what's the evidence that christian is in a bad spot today no no they they had
08:2440 touchdowns from debo iuk and cmc in 2023 40 you had one last year of those three so those were
08:33known commodity proven all pro or at least pro bowl level players who were studs mccaffrey had 2 000
08:39all scrimmage yards and scored a touchdown in every game he played he obviously made their red zone
08:44significantly better like we got to kind of wait and see on mccaffrey and even if he looks great week
08:49one what's he look like week seven what's he look like week 11 dibs what's your number my number is
08:5511 and i'm tempted to go 12 because when you and we can all i can regurgitate all the points and
09:02i'm not usually the optimist but shasky's right about the number of new starters but i also look at
09:08the jerseys that are in this not a room but the outdoor promenade here and a lot of them are
09:13are back you've got five players who are either surefire hall of famers or on that track you have
09:19a great offensive coordinator coach you brought in a great defensive coordinator coach and the
09:24schedule we've all mentioned the schedule it's not only the schedule it's also the stack because
09:29last year joe i think it was five games where teams were coming off a bye on your schedule you
09:34had the worst rest differential in 15 or 20 years in the league this year you don't have that
09:40and you get the week schedule you split the division you go five and three conservatively
09:46against the south divisions and then you mop up against the bottom feeders that's 11 right there
09:51yeah i i think your number's right i'm gonna go 11 as well and obviously health can derail this
09:57thing in any sure way shape or form but the bottom line is the schedule is going to have a lot of
10:03openings the coaching is very very good i think the most it's just been undersold
10:10the idea of how bad the 49er defense has been especially last year how poorly coached it was
10:17and how that's different so you might have questions with young players but those young
10:21players are being coached in a way that last year's defense was not i think robert sala's presence is
10:27going to make an immediate immediate imprint and i see this as the nfc west champion with at least 11
10:33victories this year um all right wow let's go all right next up um besides brock purdy's extension
10:42what is the number one thing that sticks out to you from the 49er off season and it could be good or
10:49bad uh take that wherever you want to go besides the purdy extension what stands out about the off
10:56season dibs what would you say first sala and the rookie class you brought back robert sala and
11:01clearly he walked in and said guys i saw your defense last year it was hirotious shout out low
11:06neil and so they used their first five picks on defensive players which tells me you're not going
11:10to be immediately awesome defensively i do think you can go from what 28th last year to mid-pack or even
11:17a tiny bit better and for me that makes a huge difference for a team that relies on a good defense to play
11:24complimentary football you get the lead you run it and you win games standing what would you say
11:28there can you repeat the question i knew i knew i'd have to no it was the biggest thing other than
11:35the purdy contract right here what stands out to you what stands out to you from the off season
11:41what's the first thing that comes to your mind mccaffrey that's the first thing that comes to my mind
11:49and what about him and it all comes down to whether he's healthy or not and if he's healthy
11:55it feels like they're a different team they just are when he got here he he took the team or that's
12:02when they ascended to another level shanahan knows how to use him but that's the other thing about
12:09hushman zada like when he was going down the 49ers offense he was like it felt like jeez they got
12:15unbelievable weapons just to hear him describe it so i do think uh offensively they're they should
12:24be pretty good you were very affected by our tj hushman's out by the way he is incredible he's
12:30great he's good you know sometimes you're in the studio and you're listening but if you're in the
12:34car he's he's really good really good by the way i i will to a degree share your answer uh but i but
12:42in in mccaffrey but i'll say it this way i know a lot of us like to act like when we get the
12:47opportunity to go to camp that in some way we have the eyes of a scout and and we don't so we've seen
12:53things at camp and we've read them wrong and all that but i can just tell you the practice that we
12:58went to earlier this year christian mccaffrey's legs like it was just it was so clear as day that he
13:07looked so fast and so healthy and so like he did two years ago and so not like he did last year so
13:15that moment of watching him run in in an organized setting for me is what stands out about the off
13:21season as well guru what would you say i know i'm weird and i said it on the air and again it's not a
13:27major indictment of any fraction of the team because i don't know where to start but i told stoney
13:33when we got news at pearsall who's a young man in his prime was dealing with a hammy issue it just
13:39made me think about the last three to four years and as much success as the niners have they've endured
13:44as many injuries as any other team but it just felt like damn there's no pads on how are these young
13:51bucks coming to camp whatever you're doing to train to get into shape to get into the shape
13:56these soft tissue injuries just seem like a little version of the plague so i know everybody's healthy now
14:02headed into the season but if somebody wanted to take on a um a case study or a mini 30 for 30
14:08you know i would start it it just seems like the niners injured their guys get injured more than
14:14anybody and this is without the pads so that was just something i took michael williams dealing with
14:19what he was dealing with and other players but i know it's football it's a rough sport but not when
14:24you had a you already got the bad zone and when pearsall showed up with a hand like it's supposed to
14:29be in the best shape in the world so that was my biggest takeaway like i don't even know where to
14:34start and i'm not blaming but it just seems like the red and gold get hurt just jump roping there is
14:39there is a documentary in there somewhere it's a it's a complete head scratcher this is the red
14:44and gold summit 2025 at king's fish house in santa clara westfield valley fair will it did steiny goo
14:54shasky spedoni all with you all the way up until six o'clock our summit 2025 season is here how would
15:01you guys answer that joe spedoni what would you say um it's been a great off season because you know
15:06what the tagline for tnt is it's it's we know drama and that's what the 49ers were the last three
15:11for whatever season so it's just drama drama drama last year iuk literally we couldn't even rest off
15:16a super bowl loss with him complaining about a contract trem williams christian mccaffrey it was
15:20injuries it was holdouts it was all of that and outside of juan jennings this year and that already
15:25got you know cleared up three million dollars in incentives great for juan not really it's not what
15:29he wanted but great for the 49ers um no drama this year you got purdy locked up you got kittle
15:35locked up you got fred warner locked up nothing quiet after that and that is what they need we
15:41had uh the goat jerry rice join us this morning um and he was talking about that after the super
15:46bowl he's like the only thing i want from the 49ers is to not hear about the 49ers this offseason we
15:51didn't and that's a win that's a massive win i like that answer shasky what would you say i think dibs
15:56has been spot on bringing in rober sala they had 4.4 yards to carry that's what they gave up last year
16:01wow really saquon barkley ran for 2k the niners gave up 2200 on the ground nice the niners diva 2200
16:07um eric davis thinks that's a lot of eric dickerson thinks that's a lot of yards and davis um this team
16:14also needed to shed a lot of dead weight uh there were a lot of guys i'm talking about the special
16:19teams coordinator i'm talking about the punter the kick return unit coverage unit special teams cost
16:25them how many games the fact that jake moody's still here is a little alarming that's number one i know
16:31we're going to get to him in a second but bringing in a new special teams coordinator was vital he
16:35cost them in the rams game cost them in so many of them the patriot game shouldn't even get close
16:40and i look at all the new faces on defense they were slow and old like that is the reality they
16:46got no rush last year uh devondre campbell was terrible isaac yidem was terrible in the slot those
16:52guys got picked on we've got a lot of young faces a lot of young guys those guys have to take a leap
16:57forward within the season that's why i'm so pessimistic it's just you're relying on a lot
17:02of youngsters if a couple hit they'll be sitting pretty but that's asking a lot from guys to go
17:07from the sec into the nfc west like that's a big leap so we'll see what they look like december i'm
17:14i'm cautiously optimistic on defense but robert sala coming in is the biggest acquisition hands down
17:19but you're gonna miss drake greenlaw i mean that guy for one quarter one we all saw it yeah one
17:24quarter a handful of snaps he was an unbelievable tone setter and i just don't know where they're
17:30gonna replicate that aura from they need that kind of spark from some of these young guys
17:35charverius ward was a good niner i know it was at the end how are you gonna replace him so and then
17:42we'll see what the safeties you know we will see so i think the defense is going to be a work in
17:46progress offensively they should be able to move the ball but no cmc destroyed their red zone so if
17:52you get cmc back and he's healthy that could be the difference in four or five games this year
17:57guru let's go to you then and it's good to build off of what joe's saying right here what aspect of
18:02the 49ers right now scares you the most it's the defense and you know i'm not a one-trick pony it's
18:10real this this team has been more physical even in the big games that they've lost that they've had
18:15in their grasp you know they did well even under wilks and you're talking about what shasky's talking
18:20about and dibs in regard to sala i love it but i've heard some of the greatest coaches say you
18:25can't win the race if you don't have the horses so as fired up as i am about sala it's about what
18:31he has as an extension of him on the field and alfred collins all that girth six five what three thirty
18:37two three thirty five big dude you got michael williams so you got some stuff to work with but can
18:43it manifest soon enough for you to stop and fix you know what ailed you last year uh in regard to
18:50stopping nfl offenses so that's my biggest component to and i said 10 minutes i'm gonna stand on it but
18:57bosa needs help i look at the names i look at the sizes i'm like okay there it is but man who fonga
19:03that was a diamond in the rough it started off early now he's not here but can these youngsters hit like
19:09he did where we thought they had the next ronnie lot or something like that so that would be my
19:14biggest fear i got one uh that uh that i'll throw in next and i bet a lot of people here who are
19:19watching us are about to nod their heads with me the answer is jake moody jake moody are we right or
19:26are we right jake moody scares me the most because i do think especially with this schedule the 49ers are
19:32going to be the more talented team on the field more often than not but a lot of games could
19:39especially early a lot of games could be close and you cannot afford to give away any points a game
19:48like this weekend is the the type of game that scares me the most a two-point spread on the road
19:55in seattle crowd going crazy do you want jake moody lining up when it's 21 to 20 miles telling us yes
20:02well i don't care what kyle's saying we know what we see exactly and judge jake moody jake moody
20:08has been unreliable and until i thank god you guys aren't his teammates because he's gonna miss it
20:13well you guys don't believe in him it's our job to sit here and prop the kid up he was hurt
20:20you know keep it real you gotta give him that he's not hurt this year and he's missed kicks in every game
20:26oh come on he had a game tying and a game winning field goal in vegas which was a house of horrors
20:30from earlier come on he also missed it cost them the rams game he picks a field goal in the fourth
20:37quarter with four minutes to go they go up 10 they win that game all right like special teams in that
20:42also had a fake punt they were up 14 nothing in the second quarter a fake punt which everyone saw coming
20:47that they converted for a first down then they also after they uh ronnie bell dropped they punted the ball
20:53back right to the rams and they got a 60 yard return special teams that's just one game special teams
20:59cost them over and over and over again jake moody is a part of a lot of failures for that unit i think
21:08that when push comes to shove if he has those moments again joe and you're right about the
21:12miss against the rams we don't often focus on that because it wasn't a game winner but it was a salter
21:17it was game ender shout out it was salter you salt that thing away he misses at the three and this is
21:22why i'm not worried about jake moody is because shanahan's not worried about jake moody if jake
21:27struggles jake is gone if jake does well now that he's changed his two-step approach and his ankle's
21:33fine if he comes out and goes 11 for 12 on his field goals he gets to stay well shanahan saying
21:39that he's not worried about jake moody does not mean kyle shanahan's not worried about jake moody
21:44that means he's not worried that he that means kyle shanahan said in front of a microphone that he's not
21:50worried about jake moody the same way he used to say no me and steve wilkes are on the same page
21:55no you're not till he fired no yeah but oh you're not this is not like being worried about a guy who
22:00got an eight-year contract of you know yeah i think for a guy like kyle shanahan the whatever the
22:06decision is going to be will be an easy one like i i think he probably could have the solution well
22:13pick somebody else up but i go to the walmart of field goal kickers good that's right well week two or
22:17three okay well how his drafting one worked still in progress okay so what i'm getting what i'm getting
22:27at is like he he views moody as he's either going to make kicks or i'll cut him wow and that decision
22:35like i won't even have to make it will be made for me so that that's all i mean uh in the sense of i
22:42don't think he worries about it i mean he's going to worry about it if moody's lining up from 49
22:47when they're down two for sure but then again he misses it he's probably gone stymie and spadoni
22:55what's your answer to it what aspect scares you the most hey mark you ever seen the dark night
22:59you ever seen that movie of course you know there's a character named harvey dent i believe in harvey
23:03i believe in jake moody okay i do all right let's go let's go i'm with you jerry rice joined us this
23:11morning and he had confidence in him the greatest player of all time yeah all right if he's got confidence
23:15to the kicker i got confidence to the kicker too all right he'll get it done if he wants a game
23:19winner this week this sunday he wins a game where i don't want to hear anything from any i love i love
23:23i love you i'm with you i'm pro jay i love that everybody up here is like all the people who work
23:29for the niners are in favor of jake moody so we should be in favor of jake moody the guy is missing
23:34kicks right and left in the preseason he's a victim of his draft position where he was drafted
23:40he's a victim of being a third round i don't care if it wasn't his first draft make the kick you're a
23:45kicker i love how we hold people their feet to the fire for preseason performance
23:50if you're anywhere else in the field we don't give a crap
23:54it's the only job where you're not being defended by somebody who's not even an nfl player you're being
23:58defended by 11 people who are trying to block how many teams feel good about their kickers seriously
24:03how many teams actually feel good about five no like thank you well i don't even know that many
24:09maybe half i i would ask i would say more than half i would say what teams are going into the
24:15season more down on a field goal you know on their kicker you can name at least 10 kickers in the
24:20other you know what neither of you can this leads this leads perfectly that's my point this leads
24:24perfectly into what we're going to be doing next because you're going to welcome the audience into
24:28this entire conversation and oh by the way speaking of the audience if you listen to 95 7 the game
