00:00Here's today's Derbyshire Times video bulletin.
00:03Emergency services descended on Chesterfield's Brampton Manor after a large fire broke out at the venue last night.
00:10Witnesses described a plume of smoke, with flames visible in the roof of the building as firefighters tackled the blaze at the historic site.
00:17The cause of the fire is not yet known.
00:20Residents have previously called for an increase in security at Brampton Manor after the building was devastated by a fire in an arson attack in 2022.
00:28Emergency services then were deployed to the manor house after vandals broke in and started a blaze, with flames ripping through the building off Old Road.
00:35In December 2021, Chesterfield Borough Council's planning committee had given planning permission to turn the existing manor house into four apartments and the clubhouse into a single apartment, while the barn was to be transformed into three garages.
00:48The venue was closed earlier that year to allow for redevelopment to begin, however delays in the work created a haven for antisocial behaviour, according to the police.
00:56Chesterfield MP Toby Perkins also raised concerns regarding safety and security, particularly in relation to residential properties in the vicinity and the impact of antisocial behaviour.
01:07Controversial plans to convert the former Ayers Furniture Store building in the heart of Chesterfield into flats and retail units have been approved by Chesterfield Borough Council.
01:18The application proposes one and two bed apartments on the first and second and third floors.
01:23Small commercial units, one of which would be a cafe with a kitchen, would be planned for the ground floor of the Holywall Street premises.
01:28Critics of the Scream have raised concerns, including objections regarding overdevelopment, potential traffic congestion and the fact there is no designated car parking space for residents.
