00:03Road signs in a Derbyshire village have been altered amid efforts to unofficially cut the speed limit,

00:09with a former police officer stressing that such action needs stopping before it starts.

00:14David France is a former police driver and motoring journalist who lives in Derbyshire,

00:18and he recently spotted that road signs in the village of West Handley had been changed.

00:23The speed limit signs along Main Road had been altered from 30mph to 15mph

00:27without any consultation with Derbyshire County Council.

00:31David raised concerns about residents taking matters into their own hands

00:34in order to manage speed limits in other parts of the county,

00:38and said that this issue should be stamped out to ensure that motorists are able to drive safely.

00:44Derbyshire County Council's Cabinet Member for Highways, Councillor Charlotte Hill, said,

00:48We were surprised to find that someone appears to have stuck 15mph signs

00:52over the official 30mph signs in West Handley.

00:55We are now going to have to send someone out to the village to see if we can remove these stick-on signs,

01:00and if we cannot do this, we will have to replace them.

01:03All of this costs time and money, which could be spent on fixing other road faults.

01:09A Derbyshire council has confirmed that part of an historic business park

01:12has had to be evacuated over structural safety concerns,

01:16following advice from the building organisation that oversees safety.

01:19Bolsover District Council, which manages the business park,

01:24revealed on Monday that firms at Plesley Vale's Business Park Mill 1 building

01:27had been asked to vacate the premises due to safety concerns.

01:31Issuing an update yesterday, a council spokesperson said,

01:35Bolsover District Council can confirm that businesses operating from Mill 1

01:39at Plesley Vale Business Park have been asked to vacate the premises

01:42with immediate effect due to structural safety concerns.
