00:44by Israeli invasion forces.
00:52Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Habana, Cuba.
00:57We begin with the news.
01:11In Argentina, the State Workers Association issued a statement denouncing the existence of overpricing
01:17and possible bribes in the comprehensive medical care program.
01:20A journalistic research showed that the comprehensive medical care program overcharges for the purchase
01:27of intraocular lenses for the retirees health insurance program, paying laboratories five
01:34to ten times more than market prices.
01:36In response to this new corruption scandal, the Association of State Workers denounced that
01:42overpricing has been proven, while the investigation highlights that this process began after the
01:47implementation of a new purchasing system that aimed to improve logistics starting in August
01:53of this year.
02:05Following recent corruption scandals involving Javier Milei's government, the Argentine justice system
02:11has banned the circulation of audio recordings of Carina Milei allegedly on the grounds that
02:18the opposition is planning a destabilization campaign.
02:22While the Argentine security minister is calling for journalists Joe Jorge Real and Mauro Federico
02:27to be raided, the Argentine people assert that the government is pursuing a totalitarian policy
02:33of censorship in the wake of the corruption scandals at the National Disability Agency and the Argentine
02:38comprehensive medical care program, social unions are committed to exposing these actions
02:45that the executive is trying to hide and are demanding justice through popular mobilization.
02:59Following these actions, Argentina Security Minister Patricia Bullrich was charged with a criminal
03:04offence of abuse of authority.
03:07The complainants assert that the minister's action violates Article 14, 32 and 43 of the National
03:14Constitution and international treaties which guaranteed the protection of journalists, freedom
03:20of the press and freedom of expression.
03:22They also argued that Bullrich's decision constitutes indirect and widespread censorship that undermines
03:30the fundamental principles of a democratic system and the right of citizens to be informed
03:35as well as hindering the proper functioning of the public administration.
03:45A survey by Argentina's Public Opinion and Political Communication Consultancy revealed that 56% of the population
03:52believes President Javier Millet should be impeached over the corruption scandal.
03:57The study also confirms that the political crisis within the executive branch has eroded trust in the Argentine
04:06government among the population.
04:08The survey highlights that over 65% of respondents agree that Carina Millet and her cousins Eduardo Lule
04:15and Martín Menem should resign and face justice.
04:18The survey reflects Argentina's strong condemnation of Javier Millet's policies and the consequences
04:24of his decisions following cults and corruption cases in a disability agency, ANDES, and the comprehensive
04:30medical care program.
04:33The Brazilian prosecutor requested the nation's Supreme Court Tuesday to convict former far-right
04:43President Javier Bolsonaro and seven former Cabinet officials for their alleged role in
04:48the 2023 coup attempt.
04:50The prosecutor points out that the upcoming sessions of the trial against the former President
04:55cannot be treated as an event of little relevance since there is evidence of the way in which
05:00Bolsonaro carried out the coup attempt.
05:03The prosecution emphasizes that Bolsonaro and his officials documented their coup actions
05:08in their entirety through recordings, handwritings, digital files and exchange of electronic messages.
05:16The prosecutor Paolo Congonet explained that Javier Bolsonaro is the main articulator of these
05:21crimes with which he sought to fracture the rule of law in order to remain in power.
05:27The former head of state of Brazil, together with seven of his former officials, is accused
05:39of leading or being part of an ARC criminal organization that attacked the democratic rule of law.
05:45They have also been charged with causing serious damage through violence and threats, as well
05:51as damaging protected federal property.
05:59And in Peru, the National Superior Court ordered former President Pedro Kuczynski to stand trial
06:04for alleged money laundering in connection with receiving bribes from the Brazilian construction
06:09company Odebrecht.
06:11The preliminary investigation court decided that the case will go to trial, formalizing the
06:16accusation of money laundering disguised as payments for consulting services during Kuczynski's
06:23administration as Minister of former President Alejandro Toledo.
06:27With this decision, the investigation that the Prosecutor's Office has been carrying out
06:31since 2017 concludes the former Peruvian President remains prohibited from leaving the country after
06:39three years under house arrest due to his 86-year-old age.
06:50And we go to Paraguay, where the Union of Workers of the National Electricity Administration of
06:55the country has accused the government of Santiago Peña of intending to privatize the state-owned
07:00electricity company ANDE.
07:03The trade union organization and the working class are demanding answers from the executive
07:08and his cabinet, and the main issues raised are the insufficient resources allocated in
07:13the national budget and the cuts made by ANDE, which, according to the Union, restricts its
07:20operational capacity.
07:21The Union also expressed concern about the lack of personnel, which forces crews to work with
07:26fewer staff and fewer staff, and has a direct impact on the quality of service provided
07:33to citizens.

08:18The Vietnamese Ambassador Vu Truong Mai emphasized that it was thanks to the August Revolution that
08:25the Asian country had managed to end the more than a century-long colonial joke imposed by
08:31France.
08:32Several spokespersons for the Venezuelan political movement also highlighted Ho Chi Minh as a
08:37revolutionary anti-colonialist leader and the founder of the Socialist Party of Vietnam,

09:17now we invite you to join us for another episode of the cuban way a series that highlights the
09:32community projects that work every day for the nation's present and future let's see
09:39we're here once again in havana cuba particularly from the university of havana
09:44because from one of the faculties is that this project that we're speaking of today comes up
09:51as a journalism student decided to go outside the university in search of a journalism that really
09:58seeks social transformation that is the escaramuja project here in havana in another episode of the
10:05cuban way what happens when journalism meets popular education the escaramuja project
10:14was born from this question when a journalism student from havana met the teenagers of the
10:20integral education schools or efis many of them with difficult educational backgrounds
10:25it was then that rodolfo thought to bring both realities together to design communication
10:31workshops so that these young people could give voice to their experiences and in that
10:36improve their educational journey they proposed to make a documentary about their life stories
10:42so it was very interesting the way in which they recounted why they came to these schools
10:47what families they came from the characteristics of their neighborhoods and at the same time they
10:51reflected on this and the experience was very enriching for them and for us
10:58since then escaramuja has grown and expanded throughout the island
11:02in the last 15 years its workshops have produced audio visuals documentaries television series and magazines
11:08these spaces are run by university students who work together to create a journalism that is a tool for
11:15social transformation i'm doing what i can and what i have to do from the place where i have the most
11:21to give check say that revolutionaries have to be where the revolution needs them and i consider that
11:26where i can give my best where i can give my best effort until my last breath that is where i am right
11:31now and that is what i am doing and i spare no effort i believe we have been so lucky that the
11:39people who come to the escaramuja project come with a sensitivity with a professional preparation so
11:45eager to do and with a commitment to cuba which is very good in these times of crisis of economic crisis
11:50but also of crisis and values in which some young people are shaping their future outside of cuba that
11:56there is a group of young people committed to help to contribute to the improvement of the country i think
12:01that is very valuable in each workshop escaramuja bets on bringing together young people through
12:09communication providing them with tools to express themselves discuss common problems and find a way to
12:15think of solutions together this was the case of their last big project the elaboration of a complete
12:21edition of the cuban youth magazine pionero i feel proud of myself proud of all the goals i have been able to
12:28achieve i was so pleased to see that my story was in pionero magazine
12:37one of the most famous magazines in the entire country that's so nice
12:43just like silvia rodriguez states in the song that gives the project its name
12:48these youngsters are convinced that knowledge cannot be a luxury and that this demands everyone's commitment
12:54and so in the creation of a magazine a podcast or a documentary different generations come together
13:00for a journalism that includes the voices of the future of course the projects help teenagers express
13:07how they feel find their own place find themselves they help them understand that they have a place in
13:15this world that they should be heard and it's so important that this reaches other parts of the
13:21world to commit oneself that is the word to commit to this situation they are the future they are the
13:29present and i think that empowering them and giving them all the possible tools is the best thing we can do
13:34maybe one of the most outstanding things of the escaramuco project is the way in which it gets the youth
13:51involved in a project that seeks to tell their own stories in their own voices and this was just one of
13:57the projects that we are seeing but stay tuned this week because we have more community efforts coming up
14:03here in the cuban way and after this story we have a second show break coming up before we invite you
