00:58Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Sophie Fernanda from the Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba. We'll begin with the news.
01:05On Tuesday, Chinese President Xi Jinping meets with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Mongolian President Uknagin Kurelsuk,
01:12with the aim of strengthening cooperation ties between the three nations.
01:16The Chinese leader held a trilateral meeting with his counterparts from Russia and Mongolia,
01:22with whom he discussed the prospects for expanding cooperation between the three countries.
01:27Previously, Xi Jinping participated in the 25th summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

01:39underlining the international significance of the meeting.
01:43Xi Jinping proposed that the countries present work towards a more just and equitable world governance system,
01:50and move towards a community with a shared future for humanity.
01:54In Yemen, the Ansar-Allah resistance movement, in response to the assassination of several ministers by Zionist forces,
02:04promised to continue its offensive in rejection of Israel's genocidal actions against the Palestinian people.
02:09Resistance leader Syed Abdul-Malik expressed his sorrow over the assassination of Prime Minister Ahmad Galeb and other officials,
02:16describing the attack as a new level of Israeli criminality in the region.
02:22The leader pointed out that the sacrifices will not weaken them, but rather increase their resolve, determination, resistance and cohesion of the Yemeni people to face the threats.
02:43Sayyel Abdul-Malik guaranteed Yemen's firm support for the Palestinian people,
02:53reaffirming the continuation of military actions in all fields against Israel, such as the launching of missiles, drones and maritime blockades.
03:02Meanwhile, the Israeli regime threatened to treat the Global Summit Flotilla activists as terrorists.
03:08Israeli National Security Minister Ben Givir presented the Cabinet with a plan to stop the humanitarian flotilla from passing through,
03:15and to label them as terrorists so they would not benefit from a supposedly soft arrest.
03:21Ben Givir emphasized that the Global Summit Flotilla is allegedly seeking to undermine Sinai sovereignty
03:28under the guise of humanitarian tensions to support the Palestinian resistance Hamas.
03:38Vietnam celebrated Tuesday the 80th anniversary of its revolution and the proclamation of its socialist republic.
03:51The event marks the nation's declaration of independence from French colonialism on September 2, 1945,
03:58which turned the Asian country into a beacon of hope for the liberation movements across the world.
04:04Vietnam has presently a developing economy with an increasing improvement of its population,
04:10leaving standards, a stable social and political situation, and strong institutions that guarantee its defense and security.
04:17Its economic integration with the rest of the world is increasingly wider and profound.
04:22The celebration featured a military parade in the country's capital, Hanoi, which brought together around 40,000 participants,
04:30organized in 87 military divisions, ceremonial units, civilian groups, militias and police forces and motorized and specialized vehicle units.
04:39The ceremony also highlighted the nation's friendly international relations with the participation of military units from neighboring China, Russia, Laos and Cambodia.

05:17Afghanistan's spokesperson Sabdullah Mujahid said that the support teams and medics are still helping the affected, while rescue teams continue to look for the missing.
05:28However, these operations have been hindered by landslides that have blocked vital roads in the region.
05:34Amidst the tragedy, the Afghan government has formed a special committee to coordinate the emergency response.
05:40Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior, Defence and Host together with the Red Crescent remain mobilized, delivering basic foodstuff, medical supplies and other essential items to the affected areas.
06:00And now we have a short break coming up.
06:02But first, remember you can join us on TikTok at Telesur English, where you will find news in different formats, news updates and much more.
06:09We'll be right back. Stay with us.
06:24Welcome back to From the South.
06:25And we'll go to Guyana, where on Monday presidential and legislative elections were held,
06:30that were crucial in defining its political and economic course in a context marked by the oil boom.
06:36More than 750,000 citizens were eligible to vote for about 2,790 polling stations distributed throughout the country,
06:47most of which is covered by tropical rainforests.
06:50The Electoral Commission announced that preliminary results will not be known until next Thursday.
06:56Observers from the European Union, the Organization of American States, CARICOM and the Carter Center described the elections as orderly and transparent.
07:06The day passed peacefully, although there were reports of low turnout in several areas and logistical difficulties.
07:13In Venezuela, President Nicolás Maduro denounced the deployment of U.S. warships and a nuclear submarine in the Caribbean Sea, targeting Venezuela.
07:22The President described the U.S. military mobilization as the greatest threat in the history of Latin America.
07:28Also, the head of state asserted that the military maneuver is an extravagant, unjustifiable, immoral, absolutely criminal and bloody threat.
07:37Maduro emphasized that Washington has wanted to move toward what they call a maximum pressure and responded to the case by declaring maximum preparation for the defense of Venezuela.
07:48He also assured that the United States has stayed at force and warned the President Donald Trump that the extremist mafia in Miami has taken political power in the White House and has influenced the U.S. foreign policy throughout the State Department.
08:03Venezuela is facing the greatest threat seen in our continent in the last 100 years.
08:19The U.S. military, eight military ships with 1,200 missiles, and a nuclear submarine, are pointed at Venezuela.
08:32It is an outrageous, unjustifiable, immoral, and absolutely criminal, threat bloody, absolutely criminal.
08:46President Nicolas Maduro also affirmed that Venezuela will not be the target of imperialist forces.
08:55But I tell you, and I have told you a thousand times, imperialists, supremacists, Nazis of this era, colonialists, it is not a man, it is not Maduro.
09:09It is a sacred people, it is a sacred history.
09:13And you have not been able to defeat that sacred history, nor will you ever be able to, not today, not ever, never, imperialists.
09:26In this sense, the Venezuelan President warned his U.S. counterpart, Donald Trump, about Marco Rubio's intentions to provoke a massacre with the blood of the people of Venezuela.
09:37Because President Donald Trump, Mr. President Donald Trump, you have to be careful because Marco Rubio wants to stain your hands with blood with South American, and Caribbean blood with Venezuelan blood.
09:55What they want to take you to a blood bath, and that your name Trump will be stained with blood forever.
10:02And ever with a massacre against the people of Venezuela, with a terrible war against South America and the Caribbean, because that would be a complete war in the whole continent.
10:15On its end, Colombia called for Latin America and the Caribbean to remain a region free of military intervention at CELEC's online Foreign Ministry Summit.
10:26Colombia's Foreign Minister Rosa Villavicencio highlighted the importance of the meeting in the context of the U.S. military deployment in the Caribbean Sea.
10:35On the other hand, the bloc's Foreign Minister reiterated their commitment to preserving Latin America as a region free of military intervention, and in strict compliance with international law.
10:47The regional organization declared Latin America and the Caribbean as a zone of peace during its second summit meeting held in Havana in 2014.
10:56The Havana gathering also supported the 1967 treaty held in Tlatelolco, Mexico, which established the region as free of nuclear weapons.
11:06During CELEC's summit, Venezuela denounced the military deployment carried out by the United States in the Caribbean.
11:11According to Venezuela Foreign Minister Ivan Hill, the growing U.S. military deployment in the Caribbean waters is a serious threat to regional peace and a flagrant violation of the status of peace zone declared by CELEC in 2014.
11:26The high Venezuelan officials said that Venezuela faces an unprecedented situation in terms of regional security, with the presence of eight U.S. warships in the Caribbean Sea, with more than 1,200 missiles on board,
11:39and nearly 4,200 troops trained and ready for an invasion.
11:44Hill also warned of the possible presence of the area of a nuclear submarine which not only violates the 2014 Son of Peace Declaration, but also the treaty of Tlatelolco.
11:55As an excuse for this unusual and, let's say, gross deployment on our coast,
12:04a completely false narrative has been used,
12:09a narrative accussing Venezuela and our president, Nichols Maduro Moros,
12:17as leaders of an alleged cartel that they have named the Cartel of the Sons,
12:25a cartel that was supposed to smuggle drugs into this region.
12:35And it is a narrative that has been debunked, even by the United States agencies themselves, and by a report by the U.S. State Department itself,
12:44the NODC, which is the United Nations Agency for Drug Control, and the fight against organized crime, has repeatedly pointed out that Venezuela, first and foremost, is a territory free of illegal crops.

13:34Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro will not appear before the Supreme Court during the final phase of the trial against him for impeachment,
13:42which begins Tuesday and will last until September 12th.
13:46The 70-year-old former president, who is under house arrest, must be declared innocent or guilty by the Federal Supreme Court,
13:54the highest court in justice in Brazil, whose decision is final.
13:58His lawyer, Celso Vilardi, has stated that Bolsonaro will not attend the court during the final stage of his trial.
14:05Bolsonaro is accused, among many other things, of having defended a coup d'etat to prevent Lula da Silva,
14:12who defeated him in the 2020 elections, from taking power.
14:16An urgent injustice gave in to Javier Millet's government and censored the release of a new audio recordings about the bravery scandal at the National Disability Agency.
14:25Opposition politicians said that the ruling of the federal civil and commercial judge of the autonomous city of Buenos Aires sets a serious precedent for transparency and the fight against corruption.
14:38They also denounced that censorship does not only prevent citizens from learning the truth about the case,
14:43but also protects potentially implicated government officials, weakening democratic institutions and the right of access to information.
14:50We're here in Havana, Cuba.
14:53Behind me is De Malecón, maybe one of the best-known places in the Cuban capital.
14:59But today we want to take you to other places of the city, places that are less well-known, but where neighbors day-to-day are working in a collaborative effort,
15:14always thinking in the best for their communities. In this case, we went to El Cerro, that is about seven to eight kilometers south from here.
15:21In there, Annie Bex, in her house, in her workshops, she is leading her own revolution, a revolution against consumerism.
15:28and waste society that is hurting our world so much. Today, in the Cuban way, De Vuelta.
15:49In Cuba, the culture of recycling takes roots in Havana, with small private entrepreneurs such as the ones who founded De Vuelta,
15:59a company that recycles this regarded glass to create new products for commercial and social use.
16:05Our correspondent in Havana, Belen de los Santos, tells us more.
16:10De Vuelta is Spanish for coming back around, rediscovering what had been discarded.
16:15This is the name of the glass recycling project born in El Cerro, a neighborhood in the south of Havana, led by Annie Bex.
16:24Nurse, actress and creator, her interest in creating environmental awareness in her community dates back to her childhood.
16:33Since I was a child, I used to look for bottles.
16:37My job at the Revolution Defense Committee was to recover raw material and I used to go around with a card knocking on doors
16:44so that the bottles wouldn't be thrown away to recover them.
16:48My love for that, for recycling, for the environment, has always been there.
16:52It is a concern of mine and a latent commitment.
16:59The project began in the year 2021, after the COVID-19 pandemic revealed the harshest face of a world in crisis.
17:05Since then, De Vuelta seeks to educate about the concrete impact that our actions have on the planet.
17:13In its creative recycling workshops, children and adults learn to transform bottles rescued from the trash into new treasures.
17:21And when they finish, they are ready to continue replicating the experience in their communities.
17:26What I was most excited about was to come and learn this technique and then go back home and be able to give a new life and a new form to everything we have collected.
17:37I also want to integrate it to the construction of my house, which is really the objective I am looking for.
17:44I want to make skylights with bottles in the areas we are building right now and also to transmit the idea to people who might be interested.
17:54That you don't have to look for one of these nice skylights from the store, that you can make them in a very practical way with bottles.
18:00Through creative contact with the material, De Vuelta pursues a deeper goal, to demonstrate that consumerism and throw away mentality from capitalism is the cause of the serious environmental crisis that the planet is going through.
18:21Normally, we see the culture, the culture of consumerism. Let's put it that way, where something is no longer useful.
18:28It has lost its use, supposedly, and it's gone. But those things can be transformed into something else.
18:35You can give them another use and you feel it a little more yours.
18:39When you start to see everything that can be done with glass, you have a little more respect when it comes to throw it away or not.
18:48It is a rebellion against consumer society, which is what is largely destroying the planet.
18:54Behind each glass, behind each recycled cup, there is a collective effort. And for Anibex, at the end of the day, what matters most is the power of joining efforts in the face of adversity.
19:10Glass is a pretext to do something together, to transform something that was no longer useful, no longer functional, and make it work.
19:23I emphasize this a lot in my workshops.
19:27Unity. The importance of coming together, of doing something together, to care about what you are doing and getting involved to help you do it better.
19:37So I am constantly promoting this. The importance of uniting, of standing together. Because separated, we are not going anywhere.
19:50Belen de los Santos, Denise Arabi, for TELOSUR, from Havana, Cuba.
