00:00In Venezuela, President Nicolás Maduro called to consolidate the capacity of the government,
00:14strengthen the popular power, and prepare the population for a possible armed struggle
00:18amid Washington's aggressive actions against the sovereignty of the nation.
00:22Brazilian Supreme Court has sentenced former President Jair Bolsonaro to 27 years and 3
00:32months in prison for plotting a military coup.
00:46In France, the popular political party La France Insoumise gathers 104 signatures from
00:52parliament members for a motion to impeach President Emmanuel Macron.
01:02Hello, welcome to From the South.
01:03I'm Sophie Fernández from the Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
01:07We begin with the news.
01:08In Venezuela, President Nicolás Maduro declared that defensive measures are being taken in
01:12case the country suffers a military attack by the United States Empire, in a session that
01:17was held in honor of former Chilean President Salvador Allende.
01:21During the plenary session of the Extraordinary Congress of the United Socialist Party of
01:25Venezuela and its youth, PSUVJPSUV, 2025, President Maduro assured that popular preparation is underway
01:35with activation of the 47,000 communities to move from unarmed struggle to armed struggle,
01:42only in case the U.S. imperialist aggression makes it necessary to defend the Bolivarian Revolution.
01:47President Maduro also emphasized that this position is a response to the continuous threats and
01:51illegal sanctions against aggressions promoted by Washington, which seeks to undermine the
01:57political and economic stability of the country.
02:00In this sense, Maduro reaffirmed the commitment of the Venezuelan people to dignity, independence,
02:05and their sovereign development, and the importance to work for global peace.
02:10President Maduro also announced an action plan to consolidate popular power and defend national
02:15sovereignty against military threats from the United States.
02:17President Maduro in the first place, the three central tasks of the moment, the first one,
02:41to consolidate the capacity of the government capacity to resolve, pay attention, and channel the problems
02:55of the people in a direct way with the national plan of the seven T's, pointing the third T at the front.
03:03In this sense, the Venezuelan president announced the third task of the PSUV, which consists of being prepared to defend the country against any aggression.
03:31And the third task is precisely that the Socialist Party of Venezuela, as a ruling party, as the one that unites the political forces and cultural forces of this historical
04:01bloc, that it prepare and adapt in an accelerated manor in order to move from the non-armed struggle forms to the armed struggle forms if Venezuela continues to be threatened by U.S. imperialism, without hesitation.
04:29commit treason without hesitation, as Bolívar put it.
04:37In this regard, President Nicolás Mauro emphasized that despite threats from the U.S. government,
04:42the Venezuelan people have remained united and devised strategies, particularly with
04:47regard to the economy.
04:53When they applied that decree from the Nobel Prize Barack Obama, the sanctions, we developed
05:04a plan, and that plan was successful because we rose up from the ashes like the fenix.
05:12Venezuela has been reborn, and we have an exemplary economy that is growing and expanding
05:22and producing.
05:23It's diversified, and this is a different sort of war, a hybrid war, non-conventional,
05:31the theorists call it.
05:35And the internal oligarchy and the Latin American oligarchy have applied this sort of war against
05:43the Bolivarian government of Venezuela.
05:45Venezuela, and we've faced it with a strategy, a plan, and a unified people.
05:51In every stage, we have told the people the truth.
05:56And we have called the people to combat with the truth.
06:01On the other hand, President Nicolás Mauro emphasized the strength of the Venezuelan people
06:04in the face of imperialist threats and paid tribute to the memory of Commander Hugo Chávez.
06:09I think that U.S. imperialism, with its military threats, it has awakened a giant, the giant people
06:20of Venezuela, of Huay Caiporó, of Bolívar, of Cipriano Castro, of Fabricio Ojeda, of Jorge
06:30Rodriguez's father, our warriors, our mortars, our leaders, and our eternal commander.
06:38Our founder of the Bolivarian revolution of the 21st century and the socialism of the
06:4521st century, Hugo Rafael Chávez Frias, always present here with us, in us, and around us,
06:55always present Chávez.
06:57Because where we are, Chávez is.
07:02And where Maduro is, Chávez is.
07:09And we are complete.
07:12For his part, the Paris Vice President Diosdado Cabello accused Washington of trying to seize
07:17the country's rich natural and strategic resources, behind the justification of a fight against
07:22drug trafficking.
07:23Cabello also assured that the Bolivarian nation is willing to defend its freedom, sovereignty,
07:29and self-determination, and affirmed that the objective of imperialism is to destroy the
07:34Bolivarian revolution.
07:35Venezuela's Vice President Diosdado Cabello also participated in the plenary and highlighted
07:40the efforts of the Venezuelan people to defend the national territory.
07:44And now we have a short break coming up.

08:00Stay with us.
08:01Welcome back to From the South.
08:14And we go to Brazil, where the Supreme Court has sentenced former President Jair Bolsonaro
08:18to 27 years and 3 months in prison for plotting a military coup.
08:23The third undecisive vote was cast by Justice Carmen Lucien Túnez, who found the former president
08:28guilty of seeking to forcibly cling to power after losing the 2022 election.
08:33On Tuesday, two other justices, Alexandre de Moraes and Flavia Dino, also declared the
08:3870-year-old politician guilty of leading what Moraes called a criminal organization that
08:44had sought to plunge the South American country back into dictatorship.
08:49In this context, Brazilians on the streets have welcomed the Supreme Court votes against
08:59former President Jair Bolsonaro.
09:04I think he has to pay for his crimes.
09:09He's a racist and he's good for nothing.
09:11They have to lock him up and throw the key in the river because that guy is good for nothing.
09:16He said poor people should eat grass.
09:20He didn't help us with anything.
09:22He didn't keep his promises.
09:24That's it.
09:25I hope he rots in there.
09:27It's a fair decision.
09:29It proves that democracy exists and that there are laws in Brazil.
09:32So if he did something wrong, he has to pay for it.
09:36Earlier in the day, Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Carmen Lucien Túnez asserted that since
09:412021 conditions had been created to undermine the country's democratic rule of law.
09:48Since 2021, beyond the global pandemic of the COVID-19, new social and political conflicts have emerged in these lands based on strategies and practices aimed at achieving illegitimate goals, which is exactly what was denounced.
10:08These practices threatened or attempted to abolish the democratic rule of law and constituted and attempted to detat.
10:15In this way, the Supreme Court Justice of Brazil confirmed that there was evidence of a plan led by former President Jair Bolsonaro to attack Brazil's democratic institutions.
10:27And I already anticipate that there is conclusive evidence that a group led by Jair Bolsonaro composed of key figures from the government, armed forces, and intelligence agents developed and implemented a systematic plan to attack democratic institutions.
10:44In order to obstruct the legitimate transfer of power after the 2022 elections and to undermine the free exercise of other constitutional powers, especially from the judicial branch.
10:56We move on to Argentina, where workers at the Garrahan Children's Hospital belonging to the Association of Professionals and Technicians call a 24-hour strike in protest against the presidential veto of the pediatric emergency law.
11:09The Association announced that the strike will begin this Friday, September 12, and will include the suspension of all activities at the Garrahan Hospital, except for the inpatient and emergency areas.
11:20In addition, this Thursday, the Union will hold a meeting to agree on the steps to be taken and propose for next Monday the holding of a press conference by all sectors that support the cause of Garrahan, public health and the university.
11:43In other news, in Panama, citizens reject mining reopening while denouncing conflicts of interest between the current government and the company First Quantum.
11:52Panamanians gather to denounce the attempts by José Raúl Molina's government to violate the two rulings of unconstitutionality against the mining company First Quantum, following attempts to reopen the mega-copper mine.
12:05Citizens denounce that the most serious damage from the activity would be to water sources, since it rains a lot in Panama and soil erosion is high, making the aqua fires highly vulnerable to contamination.
12:17They also point out conflicts of interest between officials from the current and previous administrations and the company, which compromise Molina's decision to reopen the mine.
12:27Meanwhile, in Ecuador, social movements took to the streets to protest against the policies and bills promoted by President Daniel Novoa.
12:41Various social organizations organized the national march to show that they are against privatizing strategic statuses and undermining labor rights.
12:50The protesters demand the repeal of the public-private partnership law and the public expenditure rationalization law, as these initiatives are a cover for privatizing vital sectors.
13:01The Day of Action shows that the Ecuadorian people are organized and alert, ready to defend their sovereignty and their achievements.
13:08The crossbow is strong, and the message is clear. They will not allow their rights to be rolled back by the neoliberal actions of the head of state.

13:35Final short break coming, don't go away.
13:47Welcome back. In France, the political party La France Insoumise, LFI, received 104 votes from members of Parliament for its motion to impeach President Emmanuel Macron.
13:59The initiative reintroduced on September 9th in the National Assembly is based on Article 68 of the Constitution, which establishes the exceptional mechanism for serious breaches.
14:09Its success depends on the post-election fragmentation of 2024, which left Parliament without a clear majority.
14:16The most recent government crisis led to the resignation of former Prime Minister François Barrou, after 364 votes against the Motion of Confidence.
14:25This dismissal by Motion of Confidence, the first since 1962, forced Macron to appoint Sébastien Lecornu as the new Prime Minister, although he is already facing a motion of censures.
14:38Meanwhile in Nepal, after two days of violent anti-government protests, the army lifted curfew as the military seeks to restore order.
14:53In this scenario, the army took control of Kathmandu and they patrolled the streets, while representatives of the protesters engaged in dialogue with military officials,
15:01following a virtual meeting attended by over 300 protest movement participants.
15:06The proposal to appoint the popular former Chief Justice Sushila Kharki as leader of the interim government was upheld.
15:13The protest, which left nearly 30 people dead and over a thousand injured, led to the resignation of Prime Minister Sharma Oli.
15:21Israel has delayed negotiations for the release of hostages in the Gaza Strip following the attack in Doha, the capital of Qatar,
15:28against the leaders of the Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas.
15:35Both the Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas, and Qatar's Prime Minister Mohamed bin Abdul Rahman have condemned the attack, declaring that Netanyahu has destroyed any hope of negotiations to do.
15:42to secure the release of the release of the hostages of the hostages.
15:43Meanwhile, Qatar is expected to host an emergency Islamic Arab summit on Sunday in the Gaza Strip.
15:44Israel has delayed negotiations for the release of hostages in the Gaza Strip following the attack in Doha, the capital of Qatar,
15:49against the leaders of the Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas.
15:54Both the Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas, and Qatar's Prime Minister Mohamed bin Abdul Rahman have condemned the attack, declaring that Netanyahu has destroyed any hope of negotiations to secure the release of the hostages.
16:07Meanwhile, Qatar is expected to host an emergency Islamic Arab summit on Sunday and Monday of next week to address the repercussions of the attack on this capital, Doha.
16:17The nation has also announced that it will take the necessary legal measures in response to the Israeli attack on its territory.
16:30Precisely, the funeral for victims of the Israeli attack on Doha was held in the Qatari city on Thursday.
16:36The service that took place in the main state mosque was attended by hundreds of Qataris, including officials, among them the nation's ruling Emir, Sheikh Tamim Mimhabad al-Tani.
16:47The bodies of the six victims of the Zion strike were carried into the mosque covered with the Palestinian and Qatari flags.
16:54In this context, the Interior Ministry of Qatar informed that after the funeral, the victims would be buried in the Mesa Emir cemetery.
17:02For its part, the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas condemned the Israeli strikes on Doha, stating they were an assassination of the entire negotiation process.
17:19An assassination attempt on the delegation, but an assassination of the entire negotiation process and a deliberate targeting of the brotherly intermediary nations, Qatar and Egypt.
17:34We affirm that the U.S. is fully complicit in this crime, bearing political and moral responsibility for providing cover and continuous support for the occupation's aggression and ongoing crimes against our people.
17:49Meanwhile in Israel, thousands of people demonstrated on the streets of Tel Aviv to protest against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's plan to escalate aggressions against the Gaza Strip.
18:00One day after the Zionist regime promised to take the city of Gaza and extend the onslaught, thousands of Israelis mobilized on the capital to call for an end of the Palestinian siege.
18:10Demonstrators display photos of those detained by the Palestinian resistance demanding their safe return, a request that keeps being hindered by the genocidal actions of the Israeli government, which keeps escalating aggressions and halting ceasefire negotiations.
18:32And like this, we have come to the end of this news brief.
