00:00Hello, very good day to you. It is meteorological autumn now and so no real surprise that there's an unsettled autumnal feel to things as we go through this week.
00:09Starting off though, let's look at the earlier satellite imagery and you don't need to be a meteorologist to be able to work out where the low pressure is centered.
00:17You can see around the swirl of cloud. Yes, a relatively mature low here, but it is the driving force for the showery, blustery theme that we have across the country.
00:27There are a couple of occluded fronts making their way and then these fronts are quite important because they're where we're seeing the showers kind of banded together.
00:35So you may get some longer spells of rain elsewhere, a fair few showers for many of us already this morning.
00:41And as we go through this afternoon, we are going to continue to see those occluded fronts bringing some more organized bands of showers perhaps, but even elsewhere, a fair few showers developing for many of us.
00:53Now, showers by their very nature, they're hit and miss, so not everywhere will necessarily see them and they may not last especially long.
01:00There could be just a heavy, perhaps even thundery downpour with a bit of hail for a short period of time.
01:06And then the sun comes out and it's all changed. Classic British weather at this time of year.
01:11Now, if you do get any sunny spells, temperatures are going to rise.
01:14High teens, low 20s for most of us, but worth factoring in that there will be some blustery winds with those showers.
01:20And so in the blustery winds, it's obviously going to feel a little bit fresher than this.
01:25Now, the showers will continue for a fair few of us for a little while as we go into the evening.
01:29But actually, then they'll start to fizzle out and lots of places turning largely dry with some clear skies.
01:35Not everywhere, though.
01:36Northwestern parts of Western Scotland here, the showers will stay pretty frequent.
01:41Could still be thundery, could still be heavy across some parts here and a few showers across some western and perhaps southern coastal parts as well.
01:48But away from these zones, some dry, clear weather.
01:51And with that, then I'm expecting temperatures to be a little bit lower than last night.
01:55Not particularly remarkable. Towns and cities generally holding up in double digits, but more rural spots could quite easily fall into single figures.
02:04And then tomorrow, a big talking point is a swathe of cloud and more persistent rain that's pushing into parts of the southwest.
02:10We'll have reached Devon and Cornwall by dawn, and then it's going to feed its way eastwards, a little bit further northwards as well, across southern counties as we go through the day.
02:18Now, this rain could be quite persistent for a time, could be quite heavy as well,
02:22and there may even be some rumbles of thunder mixed in as it starts to wrap its way up in towards East Anglia later on in the afternoon.
02:29Now, elsewhere, it's again another day of some sunny breaks and showers.
02:33The showers look heaviest across parts of northwest Scotland.
02:37Here again, there could be some thunder mixed in, so some hail, some lightning, and watch out for those blustery winds.
02:43Elsewhere, the showers don't look quite as intense or as widespread as the ones that we'll have seen through today.
02:49Temperature-wise, well, it's looking fairly similar to today, really high teens, low 20s.
02:54It's really a case of where you get the sunshine that you get the chance of the highest temperatures,
02:59so perhaps across parts of the southwest with the system clearing away and a bit more brightness developing later.
03:04That's where we have a greatest chance of getting to highs of around 21 or 22 Celsius.
03:09Then there's more unsettled weather to come as we go through the rest of this week.
03:13Watch out for Wednesday because we do have a system coming across, and that's going to bring some pretty wet and pretty windy weather.
03:19We'll probably need to issue some warnings for that, especially across parts of the south-southeast, coastal gales, that kind of thing.
03:25Then Thursday's looking like a showery day at the moment, so more hit-and-miss rain coming and going.
03:30And then by Friday and into the weekend, a bit of a northwest-southeast split.
03:35So across northwestern parts, it's looking fairly wet.
03:38In the southeast, it's actually looking largely dry for many places, actually.
03:42Friday's going to be the driest day of the week.
03:44But if you want more information about what to expect through the week as a whole,
03:48well, check out our week-ahead forecast, which Alex Deacon will be bringing to you later.
03:52Bye-bye.
