COP ENDORSES PM'S SUPPORT FOR US ON VENEZUELA

The Congress of the People is endorsing Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar's decision to throw her support behind the United States government pertaining to Venezuela and alleged narco-trafficking.   The party says, it is important to cooperate with those who "aim to restore law and order."   Alicia Boucher has the details.

00:00Prime Minister Kamala Poussard-Bissessa continues to back the United States, which has sent warships to the Caribbean.

00:07It's amid U.S. President Donald Trump mounting claims that Venezuela is a narco-trafficking state

00:13and its president, Nicolas Maduro, a narco-trafficker, and placing a 50 million U.S. dollar bounty on him.

00:20Maduro, in response, calling on citizens to bear arms in preparation for an invasion.

00:26It's a concern for some in this country who highlight a position of sovereignty

00:30and the importance of the region remaining a zone of peace.

00:34While Congress of the People leader Prankesh Ramada has come out in support of the stance taken by Poussard-Bissessa

00:40against the backdrop of the crime situation facing this country,

00:45he states that TNT continues to sink deeper into the clutches of crime and corruption,

00:50spawning bloodshed and a breakdown of law and order.

00:53Ramada says, quote,

00:55For far too long, we have sat by feeling powerless to deal with the gangs

01:00and those who are truly responsible for the import and export of drugs and guns.

01:06The flow of dark money through our commercial veins has allowed cancer to almost overtake every facet of our lives.

01:14The political leader expresses a belief that this has the potential to make the country a narco-trafficking state,

01:21to which he says actions must be taken to mitigate that.

01:24According to Ramada, modern drugs have made their way into the nation's schools,

01:29impacting children, a matter which he says requires urgent attention.

01:34He is of the view that external bodies are crucial to this fight, saying, quote,

01:38I respectfully endorse and support the Honorable Prime Minister Kamla Poussard-Bissessa

01:43in her embracing the opportunity to work with the U.S. and other nations who have together

01:49the resources and capacity to fight and win against the enemies of peace and prosperity for all our peoples.

01:56We must always align with those with whom we share common values of freedom, liberty, law and order,

02:03independent institutions, the pursuit of happiness, and peaceful existence.

02:09Ramada is further praising the Trump administration for what he sees as its efforts

02:14in confronting international evils and a quote-unquote

02:18hydra-headed monster that no individual country can defeat.

02:23The COP leader believes Poussard-Bissessa's stance

02:25is one of foresight and vision to restoring law and order in this country.
