28 August - national forecast presented by Honor Criswick
Transcript
00:00Hello there, good evening. A yellow warning for heavy rain and possible thundery outbreaks
00:04has been issued across southern parts of England and Wales and it's all due to this area of
00:09rain. At first pushing into parts of Cornwall, eventually into southern parts of Wales and
00:13it will sweep its way eastwards through the course of the night. It's likely we'll see
00:17some heavy downpours of rain associated with this, possible some hail and also some thundery
00:22downpours. So do keep an eye out across our social media channels and our website for
00:26any information on our warning. But it is set to be a wet start, particularly across Sussex
00:30and Kent for the first start of Friday. Elsewhere there will also be some showers, particularly
00:35across the west, but central and eastern parts of England should see a mostly dry night, feeling
00:40a little cooler and fresher under any prolonged clear skies.
00:45So a wet start across parts of the southeast. Eventually this band of rain will push into
00:49parts of East Anglia before clearing off into the North Sea. Once again, a swirl of low pressure
00:54will continue to sweep in some heavy showers in from the west, eventually pushing into
00:58eastern parts of England. So once again, it will be a day where it will be sunshine one
01:02moment and then a heavy downpour the next. And we could once again also see some hail and
01:06thunder associated with these showers along with some quite gusty winds. Temperatures fairly
01:11similar, around about average for the time of year. Highs reaching around 21, possibly
01:1522 degrees Celsius where we see any sunny spells. Into the overnight period, we do start
01:22to see a slight ridge of high pressure build before another area of low pressure, waiting
01:26in the wings, starts to push its way through for the beginning of the weekend. But as we
01:29see this ridge of high pressure, that means many areas will actually be waking up to quite
01:34a dry and bright start. Still the occasional shower across northwestern areas, but these
01:38should become mostly isolated by the time we reach the morning. And fairly similar temperatures
01:43during the overnight period too, lows reaching around 10 to 11 degrees Celsius. So a dry and
01:49bright start to the weekend. There will even be some sunshine around, but soon being replaced
01:54by cloudy skies as this area of low pressure begins to swing its way in from the west.
01:58Heavy outbreaks of rain pushing into Northern Ireland, eventually into parts of Wales and
02:02western parts of England. And by late into the afternoon, it's likely this band of rain
02:06will sweep across eastern areas as well. Not only heavy outbreaks of rain, but also some
02:10quite strong gusty winds associated with this feature too. Where we see any brighter spells
02:16in the east, we should see temperatures just peak into around the low 20s, but elsewhere
02:21in the mid to high teens, but that being offset by the strong and gusty winds.
02:26For the rest of the weekend then, low pressure is still set to dominate. This area of low pressure
02:31to the northwest still continuing to swing its way eastward. So even as we head through
02:35into Sunday, it's likely we'll continue to see quite widespread outbreaks of rain, some showers,
02:40and also continuation of the quite gusty weather. But of course, make sure you are subscribed
02:44so that you don't miss any of our updates.
