Bernie Rayno analyzes the likelihood of tropical development in the week ahead, offering insights into potential weather impacts.

00:00All right, we're closing in on the biggest month of the hurricane season, September.
00:07Where are we right now?
00:08Well, we've had five tropical storms and, of course, one hurricane.
00:12That was a major hurricane, rapid intensification of Aaron Ferdinand no longer.
00:18But when you look at it, we've had six named storms, five tropical storms and one hurricane.
00:23When do we typically see the seventh named storm?
00:26Around September 3rd, second hurricane.
00:28We usually have that by now.
00:30So in that case, we're running a little bit below historical average.
00:33But right on the number of storms that we've seen, second major Category 3 hurricane or greater September 19th.
00:40So all in all, kind of running where we typically would be this time of the year.
00:45Now, typically this time of the year, you tend to see a lot of tropical waves traversing their way across the Atlantic.
00:51And we have them one, two, three, and four.
00:54But despite the number of waves, we're not looking at much here over the coming days here.
01:00One thing to watch here, it's not a tropical wave, but you see this frontal boundary?
01:03Frontal boundaries this far south in the Atlantic, in the Gulf, always problematic, always bring you the possibility of some homegrown tropical development.
01:12So that's one area that we're going to keep an eye on.
01:14But overall, when you look at the Atlantic, there's just a lot of dry air.
01:19Notice that.
01:20All of that yellow from the west coast of Africa into the Gulf, into the Caribbean.
01:26And we also have, what, wind shear.
01:28Lots of that as well.
01:30There's some pockets of lower wind shear.
01:32But when you combine the wind shear with the dust, it's pretty quiet.
01:36Now, there's two areas that we're going to keep an eye on along this boundary later this weekend, early next week,
01:42in a tropical wave coming off of Africa.
01:44But right now, only low probabilities for development.
